Sharing good news of great joy to all people.
-
Elation Church. Today's our last week in our
-
series that we've entitled, Hello, My Name is
-
God. This is week number 13. And you might say,
-
wow, are there 13 names of God? Well, in the
-
study, I think there's like 15 or 16 names. Just
-
some of them are very close together, and we
-
looked at them on the same week. Like today,
-
we're looking at three names. Out of the Bible,
-
for God. But they kind of condense into the same
-
name. And each week we've been talking about
-
this. What's in a name? What are names all about
-
anyway? Well, first of all, names can be about
-
identity. Everybody say identity. Names signify
-
identity. Now, when I was born, my parents didn't
-
name me before we left the hospital. And when
-
I wanted to play... football in the sixth grade.
-
Actually, it was a seventh grade. Yeah. When
-
I wanted to play football in the seventh grade,
-
I had to get a South Carolina birth certificate.
-
When that South Carolina birth certificate came
-
in, it had no name Forrest on it because my parents
-
didn't name me before we left the hospital. And
-
you might say, no, I'm serious. My birth certificate,
-
technically for the first 13 years of my existence,
-
my name. My official name in the state of South
-
Carolina was No Name Forrest. I mean, you can't
-
even make this stuff up. I couldn't play the
-
first two or three games because we had to get
-
my name changed to the name that I've gone by
-
my whole year, my whole life. Jeffrey Dean Forrest
-
is my full name. I just go by Dean most of the
-
time. I have another identity name, and that
-
is Christian. It's not just something I do or
-
something that I practice. It's who I am. It's
-
my identity because I am in Christ and I'm a
-
Christ follower. Names also signify relationship.
-
Everybody say relationship. We all have relationship
-
names, don't we? Now my mom, her relationship
-
name to me was baby because I was the youngest
-
of four. So it didn't matter how old I was. Even
-
when I was 50 years old, when my mom would introduce
-
me, she would introduce me as her baby first.
-
Do we have any other youngest siblings? I was
-
the youngest of four. My mom always said, this
-
is my baby. And then sometimes she would say
-
my name. Sometimes she wouldn't. But I was always
-
a baby. Dad never called me baby. He called me
-
son. When I got married to Gayna. I became a
-
husband. That's a relationship name. She doesn't
-
call me husband. That's not the way we talk to
-
each other. Most times she calls me honey. Unless
-
I've been bad. Unless I've said something to
-
upset her, then she might not call me honey.
-
I won't tell you what she calls me then. Really,
-
she just calls me nothing. When Jeffrey was born,
-
I became a father. But Jeffrey doesn't say, oh,
-
father, can I have $20? No, he doesn't. He doesn't
-
say that. He started out calling me Daddy, and
-
I forgot what age it was. He just dropped the
-
D -Y and just started calling me Dad. Those are
-
all relationship names. I'm also an uncle, a
-
cousin, all those things. Those are relationship
-
names. Everybody say relationship. So names also
-
signify activity. I've gone by some titles during
-
my life, and I still go by some titles. that
-
signify what I do, right? I've been a student.
-
I'm still a student. I don't know if I'll ever
-
finish out my PhD. I'm just slow writing papers
-
and reading books. I'm a student. I was a cook
-
in high school, cooked for Quincy's, cooked steaks
-
on the grill. I've been a salesman for a lumberyard,
-
a Nissan dealership. and I sold recording studio
-
packages. I've been a sound man. I've actually
-
got paid to run sound at events before. I was
-
a custodian for a while at Disney when I got
-
here. I was also a trainer and a coordinator
-
there. Gannon and I, because we already had two
-
jobs, we needed a third job when we were newly
-
married, and we cleaned offices. Three nights
-
a week, we would go clean offices after we got
-
off of our other jobs. I actually bought a screen
-
printing setup, and I was a screen printer. I
-
was an A &R director, artist and repertoire at
-
a record company, Southern Gospel Record Company.
-
I've been the vice president. I actually became
-
the vice president of Heart Look Records one
-
day. The boss walked in and gave me a business
-
card. It said, Dean Forrest, vice president.
-
I wish I still had those cards. They're probably
-
somewhere. I probably got a few of them. Here's
-
the deal. I got a title, but I didn't get a race.
-
So there was no difference in the normal pay
-
or the vice president pay. I found that out.
-
I've been the music director of state and national
-
organizations. I've been an event planner. I've
-
actually rented space in 10 different states.
-
I've been a crusade director. Area -wide crusade,
-
I directed three of those. I've been the president
-
of non -profit corporations and the president
-
of organizations. I've been the worship leader
-
at some events. One day I was a worship leader
-
at the Ryman Auditorium. Does anybody know what
-
the Ryman Auditorium is? It's where the Grand
-
Ole Opry started. It was in the Ryman Auditorium.
-
One day I was a worship leader there. I've been
-
a conference director. We had a youth conference
-
for over 20 years. I was on the road for over
-
20 years as an evangelist. I was a chaplain at
-
Lakewood Camper Resort. I'm also a volunteer
-
chaplain at Giovanni's right there on the corner.
-
I'm a preacher. Some people call me preacher.
-
Some people call me pastor. Some people call
-
me dean. Somebody wipe your head and say, that's
-
a lot. But for those of you who are new to this
-
series, you just found out a lot about me, didn't
-
you? That you didn't know. You might have thought
-
I was a preacher my whole life. I've done a lot.
-
Alright? So, over 29 names I've just shared with
-
you, but I'm one person. Some people, when you
-
talk about God having a lot of names, you might
-
be confused that there's a lot of gods. But God
-
is one essence in three persons. Okay? Are you
-
with me? Nod your head or something if you're
-
with me. God is one. Father, Son, Holy Spirit.
-
One essence. So, what's in a name? Identity,
-
relationship, and activity. And that's in God's
-
names too. And that's what this study's been
-
about. Because in God's names, we find out who
-
he is. His eternal name that he wants to be known
-
by for every generation for all time is Yahweh.
-
Everybody say Yahweh. That's his eternal name.
-
But then there's some relationship names. They
-
signify what kind of relationship he wants to
-
be in with me and with you. And then there's
-
some activity names. What he wants to do in our
-
lives. And you might say, well, if he wants to
-
do it, let him do it. But we have to receive
-
who he is by faith. I'll say that again. We have
-
to receive. It's not just that he is that. We
-
have to receive him as being that in our lives
-
by faith. Easiest example. The Bible says it's
-
not God's will that any should perish, right?
-
That's what the Bible says. It's not God's will
-
that any should perish, but that all should come
-
to repentance and believe in Him. So it's God's
-
will to save everybody, for Him to be Savior
-
for everybody. How many of you know that everybody
-
is not going to be saved by grace through faith?
-
Are you with me? You have to receive it. You
-
have to receive him as Savior in order for him
-
to be your Savior. He is Savior, but just because
-
he is Savior doesn't mean he's your Savior. Are
-
you with me? Come on, somebody. Y 'all lighten
-
up a little bit. I'm not talking about money
-
anymore. I'm talking about salvation. Right?
-
So. If we want to see God do the things that
-
he says he wants to do by telling us who he is,
-
then we've got to receive it by faith. Here's
-
our platform verse for this study. Psalm 910.
-
Those who know your name, everybody say God's
-
name. Those who know your name will put their
-
trust in you. For you, Lord, have not forsaken
-
those who seek you. Another translation of that
-
Hebrew word that's translated trust in English
-
is confidence. Everybody say confidence. So when
-
we know who God is based on His names given to
-
us in Scripture, then we can put our trust and
-
our confidence in Him. And we can know. Everybody
-
say, I can know. I can know who God is, what
-
He wants to do in my life, what kind of relationship
-
He wants to be in with me. I can know that. Because
-
He's not going to forsake me. He's not going
-
to turn His back on me when I seek Him based
-
on who He says He is. Today we're looking at
-
three names. First one is Hebrew. The next two
-
are going to be in Greek out of the New Testament.
-
Hello, my name is Adonai. Everybody say Adonai.
-
Have you heard that word Adonai before? Who has?
-
Who's heard that word? Adonai. Now, Adonai, I
-
don't know if this is the next slide or not.
-
Adonai is in the Old Testament over 450 times.
-
Look to the person beside you and say, that's
-
a lot. It's in there over 450 times. I'm going
-
to give you a way to distinguish. when the word
-
is Adonai and when the word is Yahweh. Is that
-
okay? So when you read your Bible, if all four
-
letters of Lord are all capitalized, I don't
-
know if you've noticed that in your Bible or
-
not, but if you read the word Lord and it's all
-
capital, that means that the Hebrew was Yahweh.
-
Okay? If it is not, all capitalize the word Lord,
-
it means that the Hebrew word was Adonai. All
-
right? So it's used over 450 times. So what does
-
that mean? What does Adonai mean? Well, it comes
-
from Adon, and it means to rule. It means sovereign.
-
Lord, master, ruler is the way it's translated
-
into English. So we can put it this way. My Lord
-
and respected authority. Everybody say that with
-
me. My Lord and respected authority. That means
-
he's my Lord and I respect his rule. I respect
-
his authority over my life. You know why I can
-
say I respect it? Because I've yielded the authority
-
of my life over to him. Then you can call him
-
Adonai from your heart. Now, some people take
-
that word sovereign and they try to make it mean
-
other things. The Christian doctrine of God's
-
sovereignty is not saying, listen, it's not saying,
-
everybody say not saying, it's not saying that
-
he is in meticulous control over everything that
-
happens on earth. It's not saying that. Some
-
people think that's what sovereignty means. God's
-
in control of everything. He's in meticulous
-
control of everything. I'm just going to go ahead
-
and throw it out there. If He is, He's messed
-
up. If He's in control of all the evil, if He's
-
in control of all the choices of sin that people
-
make, It can't be. It can't be. Because if it
-
is, then he's not good. He's like an evil puppet
-
master. So he's not in control of every meticulous
-
thing that happens. Now, he is supreme authority.
-
Hello? Everybody say, he's supreme authority.
-
He's supreme authority. I've got a little thing
-
to help you understand what I'm talking about.
-
King Charles III. He's known as the sovereign
-
king of the UK and the 14 commonwealths. Everybody
-
say sovereign. Just because he is the authority
-
over the UK and the 14 commonwealths does not
-
mean that he's responsible for 100 women burning
-
their scones this morning. Do you agree with
-
me? You can't hold him responsible. Now, he's
-
as high as it gets authority -wise in the UK
-
and the Commonwealth. He is the authority figure,
-
right? But those women didn't set the timer's
-
right or something. You can't blame that on the
-
king. I'm glad some of you smiled. Could you
-
blame it on him? No. Some people take that doctrine
-
of sovereignty to the point that God is in control
-
and responsible for everything that happens in
-
this earth and in their lives. Several years
-
ago, I had a pastor friend that posted this.
-
He said, I hate to even read it, but here's what
-
he posted. I believe the devil is more a servant
-
of God today after his fall than he was before
-
his fall. The devil is simply a tool. In God's
-
hands. God is trying to teach you something through
-
everything that happens to you. Now a preacher
-
posted this. If preachers are posting this, God
-
help us. Right? What's happening? I don't know.
-
I don't know what was happening. But I had to
-
change microphones. Did that one have a devil
-
in it or something? I don't know. Turn red. Oh,
-
you saw the battery about to burn out. Thank
-
you. All right, back to this. A preacher posted
-
this. Now, a lot of times people say things about
-
God and they don't think through. Look at the
-
person beside you and say, you've got to think
-
it through. Whatever you say about God, you better
-
think it through. Because what this pastor put
-
on social media about God, he might as well be
-
saying this. God runs a mafia organization, and
-
the mafia organization is of demons, and they
-
do his dirty work so that he can keep his hands
-
clean. Hello? If you think it through, that's
-
what he said. That's what he said. In that case,
-
if what he posted is true, all spiritual warfare,
-
all standing in the armor of God, all resisting
-
the devil would ultimately be fighting against
-
God. If God's bringing it, we shouldn't be against
-
it. Hello? I think half of you are with me. I
-
don't know about the rest of you. Years ago,
-
some friends told me, they were talking about
-
their son. They told me that God's plan. Everybody
-
say God's plan. Now, I know bad things happen,
-
all right? Bad things happen in relationships,
-
and bad things happen with addictions. But they
-
were telling me that this is God's plan. They
-
told me God's plan for their son, who had been
-
my pastor for three years. God's plan was for
-
him to get divorced and to become an alcoholic
-
so that God could eventually use him in a greater
-
way. And they told me that that was God's plan.
-
What are you saying? Think it through. Everybody
-
say, think it through. In that case, if what
-
they say was true, then God is the one who leads
-
us to sin. So repentance and holy living, that
-
would be going against God's bigger plan. Isn't
-
that crazy? To think that? Many people say God
-
made them sick to teach them something. Has anybody
-
ever heard that? God made me sick. God gave me
-
cancer because he needed to teach me something.
-
The Bible said, listen, Jesus said, if a little
-
kid asks his daddy for some bread, Would he give
-
him a snake? Is there a parent in this room that
-
you would want your child to get cancer so that
-
you could teach them something? So what are we
-
blaming on God? Come on somebody, help me. People
-
say that God made them sick to teach them something.
-
Now listen, God's in the business. of taking
-
whatever we're dealing with in this fallen world.
-
God's in the business. If we will look to Him
-
and trust Him, we can see something good. Even
-
in the middle of the most terrible situations
-
that we find ourselves in, we can see something
-
good. Are you with me? But God didn't bring the
-
tragedy. He didn't bring it. He's the one who
-
can bring some good out of it. Because in that
-
case, if God gave you a disease or if God gave
-
you cancer, going to the doctor, taking medicine,
-
praying for healing, we'd be working against
-
God. Look to the person beside you and remind
-
them, you've got to think it through. You've
-
got to think it through. so many people get it
-
wrong so many people hear a preacher say something
-
like that and then they go repeat it and nobody
-
has thought it through listen god is not the
-
author of evil god is not the author of disease
-
god is not the author of destruction god is not
-
the author of death All this, they're products
-
of rebellion and sin. That might not be a product
-
of your personal rebellion or sin. It could be
-
the product of somebody that you're connected
-
with, their rebellion of sin. But we're all connected
-
to Adam and Eve. If you go back far enough, we're
-
all connected. And that's when all of these things,
-
evil, disease, destruction, death, that's when
-
they all manifested in the world. It didn't come
-
from God. Some people say God's in control and
-
it's all God and God does this, God does that.
-
He's the one who puts all this evil on me and
-
all these things that I just talked about. I
-
call that a no -fault religion. And the reason
-
why so many people are okay with that is because
-
they don't want to take any responsibility. Hello?
-
People don't want to take responsibility. Like
-
Jeffrey said last week when we were looking at
-
Yahweh Rapha, the Lord is our healer. People
-
don't want to look at the responsibility that
-
they ate at McDonald's two times a day for ten
-
years and then they got some kind of disease.
-
We had a lady in Myrtle Beach. I preached her
-
funeral and she says, you know why I have stomach
-
cancer? Because I eat hot dogs with nitrates
-
twice a day every day. She owned up to it. Because
-
she just loved hot dogs. And she ate hot dogs
-
until the day she died. Now you can get them
-
nitrate -free. But she went 60 years of eating
-
hot dogs every day. And it says on the package,
-
I mean, you know, you look up nitrates, you can
-
see that it's not going to be good for you. She
-
knew. She didn't say God gave me cancer. She
-
said I gave myself cancer because I ate nitrates
-
every day. Hello? But some people want to blame
-
God for their predicament. And sometimes their
-
words and their actions are responsible for where
-
they are. Psalm 105. The Lord. Everybody say
-
Adonai. For the Lord. He's good. Look to the
-
person beside you and smile real big and say,
-
God's good. Adonai is good. His unfailing love
-
continues forever. His faithfulness continues
-
to each generation. That's who Adonai is. Adonai.
-
He rules and reigns as my respected authority.
-
And when we call Him Lord, We're saying that
-
that's who He is. We're not just saying a word.
-
Hello? We're not just saying the word Lord, because
-
you can say the word Lord and Him not be your
-
Lord. We'll look at that in just a minute. You
-
can say that He's Lord, but to say that He is
-
Adonai means that you have given Him authority
-
over your life. Somebody smile. Hello, my name
-
is... I'm going to cheat and look at the phonetic
-
here. Despates. Despates. Hello, my name is Despates.
-
That means he's absolute ruler. And it comes
-
from the root word, deo, which means to bind.
-
To bind. So... when we call Jesus Lord, we're
-
saying that He is the absolute ruler of our lives.
-
Here's what it's saying. I have bound myself
-
to Him. He's bound Himself to me. We're bound
-
together. So He is my Lord and He is my owner.
-
If Jesus is Lord, If He really is Lord, you've
-
got to agree that He owns you. And here's why
-
He's owned you. Because He bought you with a
-
price. What was that price? His blood. He bought
-
us. He bought us. He is my Lord and He is my
-
owner. 2 Peter 2 .1 But there were also false
-
prophets. Everybody say false prophets. False
-
prophets in Israel, just as there were false
-
teachers, there will be false teachers among
-
you. They will cleverly teach destructive heresies,
-
listen, and even deny the master. Everybody said
-
despates, Lord. They will even deny the Lord
-
who bought them. So it's heresy, it's false doctrine.
-
unless we recognize that Jesus paid a price for
-
us and He bought us. See, we're all born being
-
a slave to sin. Hello? We're all born being a
-
slave to sin. But when we receive Christ as our
-
Lord and acknowledge Him as Lord, the Holy Spirit
-
takes us from being a slave to sin into being
-
in Christ. We were in sin. He moves us to being...
-
In Christ. He bought us. And it's a heresy. If
-
you do not look to Jesus as being your owner,
-
many believe that God exists. And they think
-
if they believe that God exists, that they're
-
good. Many believe that He exists, but... There's
-
a lot of people who believe that God exists and
-
they've never surrendered the ownership rights
-
of their lives to Him. They've never done that.
-
God exists. Okay, I believe that, so now I've
-
got a fire insurance policy, so now I can just
-
go about my life however I want to. Somebody
-
say false doctrine. It's not true. James 2, 19.
-
You say you have faith, for you believe that
-
there's one God. Good for you. Even the demons
-
believe this. Fallen one -third of the angels,
-
the demons, they believe that there's a God and
-
that there's one God. I mean, they've seen it,
-
right? They believe that, but how many of you
-
know that's not faith unto salvation? It's different.
-
Denying or not recognizing that we belong to
-
God, that we were purchased by the blood of Jesus,
-
is an indicator of false doctrine and counterfeit
-
faith. I don't normally preach this hard. I feel
-
like I'm preaching hard today. Sometimes we need
-
dogmatic preaching. This is the way it is. And
-
we need to hear it. We need to receive it. 1
-
Corinthians 6, 19. Don't you realize that your
-
body, everybody say my body, if you're in Christ,
-
this is talking about you, don't you realize
-
that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit
-
who lives in you and was given to you by God?
-
Listen to what it says. You do not belong to
-
yourself. How do we live our lives? Come on,
-
somebody. How do we live our lives most of the
-
time? Most of the time we live our lives like
-
we belong to ourselves. And God is just somebody
-
who we occasionally come visit on Sunday morning.
-
And our life is just about me, me, me, me, me,
-
me, me. Listen, you do not belong to yourself
-
for God bought you with a high price. You've
-
been bought. One more. Everybody say one more.
-
Hello. My name is... I don't know if I'm going
-
to say it right. Let me look at phonetics again.
-
Coup. Coup. Got some phlegm in my esophagus.
-
Coup. Courios. Courios. Kurios. Hello, my name
-
is Kurios. Here's what that means. Supreme in
-
authority. My Lord and Master. That's who God
-
is. Romans 10, 9. You might have heard this verse
-
before. If you confess with your mouth that Jesus
-
is Kurios, Lord. And believe in your heart that
-
God raised him from the dead. You will be saved.
-
He will become your Savior. Listen. When you
-
confess with your mouth that Jesus is your Lord
-
and Master. Do you think he's just using those
-
words? Or do you think there has to be some understanding
-
and implication to what this says? Is it just
-
saying the word Lord? Oh, I said the word Lord
-
one day, and I believe that he was raised from
-
the dead, so I'm saved because I've said the
-
word Lord. Here's what Jesus said. On judgment
-
day, many, everybody say many, many will say
-
to me, Kurios, Kurios. We prophesied in your
-
name, cast out demons in your name, performed
-
many miracles in your name. So Jesus, I've done
-
a lot of religious stuff in your name. Done a
-
lot of religious stuff. So you've got to let
-
me in because I'm a very religious person. You
-
know? What did Jesus say? But I will reply, I
-
never knew you. These are some tough words. But
-
I'd be wrong if I didn't tell it to you. Right?
-
I'd be cheating you. Because now nobody in this
-
room can look at me and say, Dean, why didn't
-
you tell me the truth? I thought as long as I
-
was a good religious person that I was going
-
to get to heaven. And as long as I just said
-
the word Lord, I was going to heaven. But Jesus
-
said, no, there's going to be a lot of people
-
who say, Lord, Lord. And they've even done some
-
really religious stuff. Even beyond just going
-
to church, even every Sunday, right? They're
-
prophesying. They're saying, I'm speaking for
-
God. This is what God's saying, you know. So
-
they had enough religion and maybe even enough
-
word of God to say, well, this is what God says
-
about what you're doing. But here's the problem.
-
They missed out on Lord. They missed out. Because
-
Lord is a relationship name. Remember, I said
-
some names are identity, some names are relationship,
-
some names are activity. Lord is full on a relationship
-
name. Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord,
-
Kurios, will be saved. Everyone who says, Jesus,
-
I call on you to be, My Lord and my Master, Jesus,
-
I surrender my life to you. You're my supreme
-
authority. You own me. You bought me. So I'm
-
going to live for you and follow you. My life's
-
just not going to be about me all the time. I'm
-
going to live for you. Right? Isn't that what
-
we do if he's our owner and our master? If he's
-
our authority, if we respect him as our authority,
-
don't we live for him instead of just living
-
for ourselves? Everyone who calls on the name
-
of the Lord will be saved. So Adonai, despotis,
-
kurios, they're more than just identifiers. Because
-
many will say, Lord, Lord, as an identification.
-
But Jesus said, you know, you're using the word
-
Lord, but I've never been your Lord in relationship.
-
Isn't that what he said? Because he said, sorry,
-
never knew you. We know God's name. We can put
-
our faith, we can put our trust, we can put our
-
confidence in him. For you, Lord, Adonai, have
-
not forsaken those who seek you. When you call
-
on the name of the Lord, let me tell you something.
-
When you say to Jesus, I surrender my life to
-
you, you know what? You can be confident that
-
he's going to receive you. That He's going to
-
forgive you. That His blood on the cross purchased
-
you. And even in that understanding, guess what?
-
You become a child of God. You become a joint
-
heir with Christ. You get adopted into the family
-
of God. But we still understand who He is and
-
what He has done for us. And we stay in that
-
relationship with Him. His name is Adonai. Despotes.
-
Kurios. Some people call Christianity itself
-
the great confession. Everybody say the great
-
confession. Here's the great confession. Jesus
-
is Lord. Would you say that with me? Jesus is
-
Lord. Can we put it like this? Jesus is my Lord.
-
Here's what I want you to get today. He is Lord
-
and wants to be Lord over everything. Listen.
-
There's coming a day when He is going to be recognized
-
as Lord of all. The Bible says there's a day
-
when every knee will bow. Have any of you ever
-
met somebody who was a sure enough atheist who...
-
Didn't just know if God existed or not, but they
-
were working against God. They were against God.
-
Their knees are going to bow one day. When they
-
stand before Jesus on judgment day, their knees
-
are going to bow. And they're going to confess
-
this great confession that Jesus is Lord. Because
-
they're going to see it, but it's going to be
-
too late. See, we exist on this earth. If you
-
ever want to know why you're here, you're here
-
to have the opportunity to come into a relationship
-
with God. That's why you're still alive today.
-
That's why we exist. Will you make the choice?
-
To love God and to accept Jesus as your Savior
-
and Lord. That's why we exist. If we only saw
-
our lives that way every day, I believe it would
-
make a difference in the way we lived our lives.
-
And I want to tell you today, God will be Lord
-
over whatever... You surrender to him. I'll say
-
that again. God will be Lord. Jesus will be Lord
-
over whatever you surrender to him. Most important
-
thing is that you surrender yourself to him.
-
But did you know that you could surrender your
-
family to him? Did you know that you could surrender
-
your home to him? Do you know that you could?
-
Surrender your business to Him? Did you know
-
that you could confess with me that Jesus is
-
Lord over four corners? We can stand by faith
-
in that, that Jesus is Lord over all 172 communities?
-
See, when you surrender it to Him, when you surrender
-
your job to Him, when you surrender your business
-
to Him, when you surrender your family to Him,
-
then you can see Him at work. But if you don't
-
surrender to Him as Lord, then it's yours. You're
-
the Lord over it. How many of you know it's a
-
whole lot better to let Jesus be Lord over it
-
than you to be Lord over it? Come on, somebody.
-
Real quick. If you're here today and you cannot
-
look back on your life and see a time. Now listen,
-
I'm not saying a time when you repeated some
-
words after somebody because you got emotional
-
during something going on. Can you look back
-
to a time in your life where you found yourself
-
and realized because the Holy Spirit was convicting
-
you, have you realized that you were a sinner
-
and that your sin separates you from the Holy
-
God? Has that ever happened in your life? Have
-
you ever come to the point where you realize
-
that God is holy and you're not? And when you
-
came to that point, did you ask God to forgive
-
you? He's faithful and just, right? If we confess
-
our sins, He's faithful and just. He'll forgive
-
us of all unrighteousness. So can you look back
-
to a time when that happened? And then the Bible
-
says if you call on the name of the Lord, you'll
-
be saved. You'll be rescued from your sin when
-
you call on the name of the Lord. So can you
-
look back at a time? You didn't have to use these
-
exact words, but has there been a time where
-
you said, Jesus, up until today, my life's just
-
been all about me. But from now on, I want you
-
to be my Lord. I surrender my life to you. I
-
want to live for you. Can you look back at a
-
time in your life and see that that took place?
-
If you can't, I have some great news. Because
-
today, the Bible says, is the day of salvation.
-
Right here, right now, while the Holy Spirit's
-
tugging at your heart, today's the day of salvation.
-
If that's what you want to do, I want to ask
-
you to pray with me. But listen, there's nothing
-
magic about the words that I'm going to say.
-
You could write these words down, and you could
-
just read them off of a page a hundred times
-
today, and it wouldn't mean anything unless you
-
take these words and make them yours. All I'm
-
doing is putting in the words what I believe
-
the Bible says to confess Jesus as Lord and to
-
confess your sin to God. I'm just putting it
-
in words. But it's not about repeating my words,
-
because listen, we can teach birds to repeat
-
words after people. But if this is what you want
-
to say to God from your heart, and you say it
-
to Him, the great news is this, He'll hear you.
-
He'll forgive you. He'll welcome you into His
-
family. He will be your Savior and your Lord.
-
Because that's who He is, and that's the relationship
-
that He wants to be in with you. So if that's
-
what you want, I ask you to pray with me. Let's
-
pray. Jesus, I believe You are the Son of God.
-
I believe You died on the cross for me, for my
-
sin, in my place. I believe You rose again from
-
the grave, just like the Bible says. I realize
-
today that I'm a sinner. You're holy and I'm
-
not, so I ask you to forgive me of my sin. Wash
-
me clean. Clothe me in your righteousness. Jesus,
-
today, I realize that up until today, my life's
-
just been all about me. But from now on, I want
-
my life to be about you. I surrender myself to
-
you as my Lord, my honor, my master. I confess
-
you as my Lord. If you're here today, don't look.
-
Everybody keep your eyes closed and your heads
-
down. If you're here today and you say, Dean,
-
you know what? I couldn't look back in my life
-
and see a time when I confessed my sin and surrendered
-
my life to the Lord Jesus, but I just did. If
-
that's you, nobody's looking around. Only me
-
and God are looking around right now, but would
-
you lift up your hand? If you'd say, I just pray
-
with you. That's what I wanted to say to God.
-
I ask Him to be my Lord, my Savior. I ask Him
-
to forgive me. Everybody look up this way. Either
-
you have done that or you're not ready. I want
-
you to stand with me. Let's stand together. And
-
let's say this confession together based on who
-
He is as our Lord. You ready? Let's read it together.
-
Don't repeat. Just read it together like we're
-
in third grade reading together. All right? Here
-
we go. One, two, three. Lord, I surrender my
-
life to you. You are my respected authority,
-
my owner, and my master. You are Lord over my
-
life. You are Lord over my family. You are Lord
-
over all, everything. Listen. Saying that Jesus
-
is your Lord shouldn't be a one -time thing that
-
you never say again. We need to confess this
-
every day, that Jesus is our Lord. I believe
-
it will change the way we live. We need to confess
-
that Jesus is Lord over our home. Jesus is Lord
-
over our business. Jesus is Lord over our job.
-
Jesus is Lord over Four Corners. Hello? Somebody
-
smile. We need to be confessing that Jesus is
-
Lord. Every day, that great confession. That's
-
who he is. That's who he wants to be in relationship
-
with you. This online worship experience was
