  17. Daily to eight hundred six hundred five thousand and four.

  18. Right now, here's Pastor Rick with part one of a

  19. message called God's Prescription for Health.

  20. This week, I want us to look at your physical

  21. health and we're gonna look at God's Prescription for physical help.

  22. Now.

  23. Before we look at this, I need to begin with

  24. a confession. I grew up in a family where we

  25. were taught you don't drink, smoke, cuss, chew, or run

  26. around with girls that do.

  27. So.

  28. In my lifetime, I've never smoked a cigarette. I've never

  29. tasted alcohol. I've never taken an illicit drug. But I

  30. love pasta, and that's why they call me pasta rick.

  31. All right, Now, we all have our drug of choice,

  32. and my drug of choice.

  33. Has been food.

  34. Now, I grew up in a family with the centerpiece

  35. that literally dominated all the other furniture in our house

  36. was the dining room table. Now I'm not just talking

  37. about a little kitchenette. This thing was twelve maybe fourteen

  38. feet long. It was at least five feet wide. I'm

  39. not making this up. It was a four inch thick

  40. slab of a single piece of redwood. I grew up

  41. in northern California, in the Redwoods, in a little town

  42. called Redwood Valley, and we had a lumberman who actually

  43. milled this from a single tree. The dining room table

  44. at the Warren home dominated not just the dining room,

  45. but the room and every other room of the house,

  46. and every major function of our house. Revolved around that table.

  47. Every happy memory in my life growing up was connected

  48. to food. Every sad memory in my life was connected

  49. to food. Everything between those two extremes was connected to food.

  50. And so while we didn't drink some custome, we certainly

  51. did enjoy a lot of food. My mom liked to cook,

  52. my dad grew at least an acre in garden, We

  53. raised their own cattle, and there was always plenty on

  54. the table. And I have to be honest with you,

  55. I've never really paid much attention to my health until

  56. my mid twenties. I was as skinny as a bean pole.

  57. I mean, I was one of those guys you hate

  58. who you could literally eat everything and not gain an ounce.

  59. And that's why it was. And then I got married.

  60. Now I'm not blaming k she has no responsibility that

  61. she's an incredible cook, but I don't know. Something slowed

  62. down in me and I started packing on the palace

  63. and honestly, never really did pay much attention to my

  64. health until this year. I had a little epiphany, a

  65. Damascus road experience. The light kind of finally clicked on

  66. in my mind. And it happened the day that a

  67. few months ago I baptized on a single day, over

  68. eight hundred of you.

  69. Now, by the way, at the end of that day.

  70. I was stith, can shoot, I think I'm going to

  71. become a Catholic. I like this thing about the sprinkle

  72. little water, you know, this thing about dipping them underwater. Shoot,

  73. Methodist Presbyterian, I like that. You know, forget what Jesus did.

  74. Let's just do it the easy way. Okay, let's just

  75. throw a little water on. Let me get a fire

  76. hydrant and you know, gota maybe we'll throw in a

  77. car washed.

  78. With it, you know, And no, we're not going to

  79. do that.

  80. But after baptizing eight hundred people in our church by immersion,

  81. I realized we're all getting heavy. This is your father's saddleback.

  82. And so I started doing a little research on this,

  83. and I discovered that nearly seven in ten Americans, sixty

  84. nine percent of Americans are overweight.

  85. Overweight.

  86. I discovered that diabetes and heart disease have exploded as

  87. pandemic diseases because of weight related issues. We now have

  88. eighty million people in America who are diabetic or pre diabetic.

  89. That's phenomenally large number compared to even just ten years ago.

  90. I studied some CDC Center for Disease Control statistics and

  91. learned that in nineteen ninety five, there was not a

  92. single state in all fifty states that had more than

  93. twenty percent obese in their state. Today, there's not a

  94. single state that doesn't have at least twenty percent obese

  95. in their state. We are packing on the pounds. And

  96. then as I thought about globally, as we've traveled around

  97. the world in these one hundred and ninety five nations

  98. in the last seventy seven years, and you know, peace

  99. stands for plant churches, equipped leaders, assist the poor, care

  100. for the sick, educate the next generation and the sea,

  101. and care for the sick. We have focused almost exclusively

  102. on infectious diseases for the past seven years in the

  103. Peace Plant and so we've helped people with measles and

  104. mumps and malaria and yellow fever and typhus and polio

  105. and aids and their infectious diseases, water born eye diseases

  106. and things like that. And I discovered that actually infectious

  107. diseases in the world are actually going down, and chronic

  108. diseases are going up. In other words, by the end

  109. of this decade, twenty million people a year will die

  110. from infectious diseases in the world. Now, that's unacceptable, but

  111. fifty million a year will die from weight related diseases.

  112. More people are.

  113. Going to die from diabetes and from heart disease than

  114. from infectious diseases, a totally manageable problem. And then I

  115. discovered another amazing statistic that right now globally in the world,

  116. as many people are dying from obesity as are dying

  117. from malnutrition first time in history, one point one billion.

  118. In each category.

  119. As many people today are dying from being overweight as

  120. are dying from malnutrition in the world today. So I'm thinking,

  121. I cannot ask our church to get healthy. If I

  122. don't get serious about this, if I don't do something

  123. about myself, I cannot. I've never asked you to do

  124. anything that I haven't already modeled. Now the truth is,

  125. you already know what to do. This is not rocket science.

  126. It's not brain surgery. To get healthy, you've got to

  127. eat healthy, and you've got to eat less.

  128. You've got to get moving.

  129. You've got to move it okay, You've got to get

  130. proper sleep, and you've got to lower the stress and

  131. get more rest in your life. This is not rocket science.

  132. You know this, so there's nothing I can teach you

  133. on that today. But what I want to do today

  134. is to focus on the motivation, the.

  135. Why why do you not stick?

  136. And why do I stick with get in shape programs,

  137. get healthy programs, diets, exercise and whatever. How many times

  138. have you set a resolution to get in shape and

  139. a month later it's out the window? And the reason

  140. why is if you don't have the right motivation, you

  141. will not stick with it.

  142. You're listening to Pastor Rick's Daily Hope. Rick will be

  143. back in just a moment with the rest of today's lesson.

  144. If you've missed any part of today's teaching, you can

  145. listen online anytime at pastorick dot com. That's pastorick dot com.

  146. Thanks for joining us today for Pastor Rick's Daily Hope.

  147. A short time back, God put it on Pastor Rick's

  148. heart to connect with the team of leading health experts

  149. to create the Daniel Plan.

  150. Meet Joel.

  151. I tried to lose weight. I tried to make the changes,

  152. and nothing seemed to work because it was all based

  153. on my willpower. When I started with the program, I

  154. immediately noticed changes mainly because I wanted to be healthy.

  155. I had the tools to eat properly, I understood exercise,

  156. and I had motivation. I saw that I could get

  157. healthy finally, that I could make the changes that I

  158. tried my whole life to make.

  159. More than one hundred and eighty thousand people are following

  160. the Daniel Plan to lose weight, increase their energy, and

  161. improve their relationships, all while growing closer to the Lord.

  162. With the Daniel Plan, I've lost seventy five pounds and

  163. I've reached what I think is my ideal weight where

  164. I feel healthy. In fact, I just recently competed in

  165. an Ironman triathlon competition that's one hundred and forty point

  166. six miles of racing. When I found the Daniel Plan

  167. and its principles, I was given the tools to finally

  168. make the changes.

  169. Let Pastor Rick send you a hardcover copy of his

  170. best selling book, The Daniel Plan today as his way

  171. of saying thanks for your financial gift to this listener

  172. supported me ministry.

  180. Planned Book, So act now and call one eight hundred

  181. six hundred five thousand and four or visit pastor Rick

  182. dot com.

  183. Once again, here's Pastor Rick.

  184. All right, first, let's look at what God says about

  185. the importance of your physical health. And the Bible says this.

  186. First Corinthians, chapter six is the classic passage on the body.

  187. Here it is on the screen. Everything is permissible for me,

  188. but not everything is beneficial. Everything is permissible for me.

  189. In other words, I got the freedom to do anything,

  190. but I will not be mastered by anything. What does

  191. God saying here? He said, you know some things in life,

  192. they're just not necessarily wrong. They're just not necessary. Does

  193. that make sense? Okay, You're free to do whatever you want,

  194. but not everything is beneficial or or. And I'm not

  195. gonna be mastered by anything. I'm not gonna let it

  196. dominate me. I'm not gonna be addicted to anything. Food

  197. is for the stomach, and the stomach for food, but

  198. God's going to destroy both. In other words, they're not

  199. gonna last forever. So that's not the real reason you're here.

  200. Then he says, the body is not meant for sexual immorality,

  201. but for the.

  202. Lord, and the Lord for the body.

  203. By his power, God raised the Lord from the dead,

  204. and he's gonna raise us up.

  205. I mean, He's gonna physically raise up your body.

  206. Do you not know that your bodies are members of

  207. Christ himself? Now flee, The Bible says, from sexual immorality.

  208. All other sins a man commits are outside his body.

  209. But he has sent sexually sins against his own body.

  210. It's a different class. Do you not know that you're

  211. your body is a temple? This is where that phrase

  212. comes from. Do you not know that your body is

  213. a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you,

  214. whom you have received from God. You are not your own.

  215. You were bought at a price Jesus paid for you. Therefore,

  216. honor God with your body. Now, this passage teaches us

  217. six radical counterculture things about your body.

  218. You need to write these down.

  219. This is the exact opposite of what culture teaches you today,

  220. what the media teaches you today about your body.

  221. Okay, here they are number one.

  222. The first thing is that God expects me to manage

  223. my body. God expects me to manage my body.

  224. Now I'm not the owner. I'm the manager.

  225. God is the owner of my body, but I am

  226. the manager. The Bible word is the word steward. Stewardship

  227. is the Old English word for management, and we're talking

  228. about the stewardship of health today. In other words, I

  229. cannot blame other people for how I use or misuse

  230. or abuse my body. I can't blame anybody else. I'm

  231. the manager. My body is a gift from God on loan.

  232. God owns it and then he loans it to me.

  233. And one day I'm going to give an account. One

  234. day I'm going to stand before God and he's going

  235. to say, what did you do with what I gave you? Okay,

  236. We've talked about this many times, that life is a test,

  237. It is preparation for eternity, and God is seeing what

  238. he can trust you with. What did you do with

  239. the help I gave you? What did you do with

  240. the mind I gave you? What did you do with

  241. the opportunities, the abilities, the freedom, the wealth, all the things?

  242. What did you do with what I gave you. And

  243. one of the things is going to say is what

  244. did you do with the body that I gave you?

  245. And God is watching to see what you do.

  246. So I'm a.

  247. Caretaker of my body. God expects me to manage it.

  248. Number two, my body is God's property. Now that's fighting

  249. words here in America because all of us were taught

  250. growing up. My body is my own body, and it's

  251. my body, and I'll do what I want to with it,

  252. and God says, no, you won't. It's not your body.

  253. It's my body. I just loaned it to you. It's

  254. not yours because you didn't create it. Everything that you

  255. see was created by God and the creator owns it all.

  256. You don't own anything. It's loaned to you. Just like

  257. we talked about your money last week. You don't own

  258. your money. It's loaned to you for about eighty years.

  259. It was somebody else before you were born. It's going

  260. to be somebody else after you die. You just use

  261. it while you're here. He owns it and he loans it.

  262. And my body is God's property. The body, the Bible says,

  263. is not meant for sexual limorlity, but for the Lord.

  264. Why because it's his and the Lord for the body.

  265. In other words, I don't have the right to just

  266. share my body with anybody, and neither do you. Now

  267. that's a radical concept. See what Americans do today that

  268. make the common mistakes that the Greeks did, which is

  269. called dualism. Back in the days of Aristotle and Socrates

  270. and Plato, the Greeks believed in dualism, which was we separate.

  271. The mind and the body.

  272. And they said, you know, really what matters is just

  273. that your spirit or your mind, your spirit is.

  274. Right with God.

  275. And if your spirit is right with God, doesn't really

  276. matter what you do with your body. They devalued the body.

  277. In fact, they taught the body is evil, so really

  278. it doesn't matter if you mess up your body because

  279. it's just evil. What only really matters is your spirit.

  280. And the Bible says that's absolutely false.

  281. Your body is not evil.

  282. Your body is holy because God made it, and everything

  283. God makes he makes for a purpose. God has never

  284. made anything else without a purpose. And so don't compartmentalize that.

  285. You know, all it really matters is my spirit, not

  286. my body. It both matters.

  287. That's a myth.

  288. Now I have to admit that growing up in a

  289. church home, I never in my entire life heard a

  290. single sermon on the body, not one. I've never heard one.

  291. I've heard him talk about the importance of your spirit,

  292. the importance of your soul, the importance of your mind,

  293. the importance of your character, the importance of your values.

  294. I'd never heard a single sermon on the importance of

  295. your body. So most Christians have no theology of health.

  296. But the fact is God owns your God He's the

  297. boss of your body. You may not like it, but

  298. it's a truth. God owns it and expects you to

  299. manage it well. Number Three, the third thing this passage

  300. teaches is that my body will be resurrected after I die.

  301. My body will be resurrected after I die. Now, God

  302. never waste anything. He never wastes a hurt. If you'll

  303. give it to him, He'll take even the hurt things

  304. in your life and turn them around and use them

  305. for good. He doesn't waste any God recycles and God says,

  306. I'm not you think that body gave you that's just it. No, No,

  307. we're gonna We're gonna recycle it. Right now, you're living

  308. in version one point oh. In heaven, you're gonna get

  309. version two point oh, but you will have a body.

  310. Some people think that when you get to heaven you're

  311. just gonna be this. I'm more for a spirit, just

  312. kind of floating around like me, the forest be with you.

  313. Other people think they're gonna be angels. You're not going

  314. to be an angel. Angels or angels. People are people.

  315. A lot of times people get their idea of heaven

  316. is white, robe wings, playing a harp, sitting on a cloud.

  317. Friends.

  318. To me, that would be hell. I can't think of

  319. anything more boring than that. And why is heaven all white?

  320. Now?

  321. Who do you think created color? God did? Who do

  322. you think created taste buds?

  323. God did?

  324. Who do you he ain't created all the sights and

  325. sounds and gave us music?

  326. God did?

  327. Who do you think created all of beauty and gave

  328. us eyes to see it?

  329. God did?

  330. And if the world is broken and it's this beautiful,

  331. what do you think Heaven's going to be? Like multicolor extravaganza?

  332. Like you can't believe? Not some white cloud thing?

  333. Okay, all right now, the Bible says this one Corinthia

  334. six fourteen by his power. God raised the Lord from

  335. the dead, and he will raise us up. Also, do

  336. you see how important your body is? God says, I'm

  337. not through with this. You know, I'm gonna resurrect your body. Said, well,

  338. what is it gonna get all the kid in the ground? Well, yeah,

  339. or you might be cremated. But God says, I'm still

  340. going to resurrect it. I'm gonna put it together in

  341. version two point zero. And he can do anything if

  342. you created a universe, he said, what's my resurrected body

  343. going to be?

  344. Like, well, we don't really know. We do know that.

  345. After Jesus was resurrected and he walked around Jerusalem for

  346. forty days one time was seen by five hundre people

  347. and talk to them different people that he could actually

  348. his body had some kind of capability to dematerialize, because

  349. he could appear in a room without walking through the door.

  350. That'd be kind of cool, okay, kind of like Star Trek,

  351. you know, de materialized. But everybody recognized him. They recognized him,

  352. and so that gives us a clue that when you

  353. get to heaven, you're going to have a different kind

  354. of body than you've got right now. But everybody's going

  355. to know who you are. You're still going to be you.

  356. You're just going to be you version two point zero

  357. with no blemishes, perfect in every form. You're going to

  358. be you in perfect format. Now, no, I want you

  359. to circle on this phrase. The phrase by his power.

  360. By his power, God raised the Lord from the dead. See,

  361. this is one of the three reasons why we don't

  362. stick with diets, one of the three reasons we don't

  363. stick with our get healthy programs, And the first reason

  364. is we use willpower instead of God power. Now, willpower, friends,

  365. works for about three weeks, and then you get tired

  366. and you go off the diet, you start smoking again

  367. because willpower is not enough to change.

  368. This is Pastor Rick's daily hope. We're so thankful that

  391. five thousand and four or Pastorick dot com. Here's Pastor

  392. Rick with a letter from one of our listeners.

  393. Today.

  394. I share a letter from John who says he's been

  395. reading the Daily Hope Devotionals for ten years. Wow. Great John.

  396. John says he uses these written devotionals every morning to

  397. start his daily prayer and Bible reading, and he writes this,

  398. Pastor Rick, I started receiving your Daily Hope devotionals about

  399. ten years ago. Not only did they bless my life

  400. and help me with my daily walk, I would save

  401. them and send them to my friends when issues or

  402. questions would come up. So I look forward every morning

  403. to reading these devotionals, which typically start my daily prayer

  404. and Bible reading. You know, I recently got my boss

  405. signed up for Daily Hope devotionals and it hit me

  406. how powerful they really are. You know, my wife and

  407. I decided to support Daily Hope over and above our

  408. tithe to our church to help you bring one more

  409. to Jesus. Well, John, your message is so special to me.

  410. You have really blessed me with this letter because I'm

  411. glad for three reasons. First, that you have grown as

  412. a Christian through Daily Hope. Second, I'm glad that you're

  413. using the Daily Hope to help you study God's Word

  414. in a personal basis. And third, I want to thank

  415. you for karen enough to help other people that you

  416. have given generously of your funds and gifts to help

  417. us stay on the air and to allow us to

  418. actually even expand into other stations to take the good
