  1. Hello, and thanks for joining us here on Pastor Rick's

  2. Daily Hope. Well today we continue in our series called

  3. God's Prescription for a Healthy Life. In it, Pastor Rick

  4. will show you how to improve your health physically, spiritually,

  5. relationally and emotionally by applying the five essentials needed for

  6. a more vibrant life. If you want to have what

  7. it takes to live out your calling in life, stay

  8. with us for this amazing series. Now, in just a

  9. few moments, we're going to tell you about the Daniel

  10. Plan DVD study Kit, a sixth session video based study

  11. by Rick Warren, doctor Daniel Aman, and doctor Mark Hyman.

  12. This out of the box approach to a healthy lifestyle

  13. is based on five essentials faith, food, fitness, focus and friends.

  14. You can find out more right now by going to

  15. Pastorick dot com while you listen to today's message, or

  16. you can just text the word daily to eight hundred

  17. six hundred five thousand and four. That's Pastorick dot com,

  18. or the word Daily to eight hundred six hundred five

  19. thousand and four. Right now, here's Pastor Rick with part

  20. one of a message called the Awesome Power of Faith.

  21. You know, for thirty years I've been studying this question,

  22. what kind of person does God bless? What kind of

  23. person does God use? What kind of qualities do you

  24. find in people that He unusually blesses? Because I want

  25. to be a person like that. I hope you do too.

  26. And you know, what I've discovered is that God uses

  27. all kinds of people backgrounds, ages, economic status, language, ethnic everything,

  28. but there is one common denominator you can find in

  29. every single person that God blesses in an unusual way.

  30. It doesn't matter who or where they are, where they're from,

  31. they always have this quality.

  32. In their life.

  33. If you find somebody that God is blessing in an

  34. unusual way, and what is it? It is people who

  35. are not afraid to trust God completely. That is what

  36. I call the faith factor. God blesses people who are

  37. not afraid to trust Him completely, and when you do that,

  38. it produces enormous power in your life, enormous power. Now,

  39. the Bible tells us there's a direct connection between faith

  40. and power. That the more faith you put in God,

  41. the more you let Him steer your life and drive

  42. your life, the more power and the more blessing you're

  43. going to have in it. Jesus illustrated this and Matthew thirteen.

  44. It says he had gone to Nazareth, which was his hometown.

  45. It said Jesus did not do many miracles of power

  46. in his hometown because of their lack of faith. Notice

  47. the connection between faith and power in the Bible. Abraham

  48. is called the father of faith. Why is he the

  49. father of faith? Look at the next verse. Abraham's faith

  50. did not leave him, and he did not doubt God's promise. Instead,

  51. would you read this with me? His faith filled him

  52. with power. Would you like to have more of God's

  53. power in your life? You see, if you don't have

  54. God's power in your life, you're going to be running

  55. on your own energy. And that's why you're tired all

  56. the time. It's why you're always wiped out, why you're

  57. always fatigued. God never meant for you to go through

  58. life just on your own power. It's like having a

  59. laptop unplugged. The battery is eventually going to drain. You

  60. got this much of a battery, and behind you is

  61. God's Santa, no free power plant waiting for you.

  62. To plug in. Now you can do either. You can either.

  63. Run through life on your power, which means you're going

  64. to be tired all the time, or you can plug

  65. into God's power and have enormous amounts of energy that

  66. you never thought possible. So today, what's the secret. It's

  67. through getting more faith. Today we're going to look at

  68. four ways that you grow on faith. These are just

  69. four of maybe hundreds. We could spend an entire year

  70. on this subject. But here are four ways that you

  71. can grow in faith so that God's power can be

  72. more evident in your life, and God's blessing will be

  73. more evident in your life. Whatever you want God to

  74. bless you need to trust Him for a relationship, a job,

  75. or whatever.

  76. So let's look at four ways. Number one.

  77. First, faith is choosing God's dream for my life. Faith

  78. is choosing and believing God's dream for my life. It

  79. all starts with a dream. It all starts with vision,

  80. an idea. What does God want to do in my life?

  81. Proverbs twenty nine eighteen. Would you read it with me?

  82. Where there is no vision, the people perish. I tell

  83. where there's a church with no vision, that people go

  84. to another parish.

  85. Everybody wants to know where it's going. Now.

  86. The point here is this, nothing starts happening in your

  87. life until you start dreaming. God gave you the ability

  88. to dream, to create, to imagine. Nothing happens there, and

  89. dreaming is an act of faith. Everything you see on

  90. the planet started as a dream, started as an idea,

  91. started as a concept. Everything on this campus, this building,

  92. all the other buildings, before they became reality, they were

  93. a dream in somebody's mind. There weren't mine. Somebody else

  94. thought this up. Somebody else thought all the buildings up.

  95. Everything you see first was an idea. It first was

  96. a dream. And so until you get a dream, nothing

  97. becomes reality.

  98. You see.

  99. There are a lot of things in life you can

  100. delegate to other people. You can pay somebody else to

  101. do it, you can get a friend to do it,

  102. you can pawn it off on your kids. But there's

  103. one thing you cannot delegate, and that is trusting God.

  104. I cannot delegate my faith in God to somebody else.

  105. I can't ask my wife to believe God for me.

  106. I can't ask my husband, or my kids, or my

  107. parents to believe God for me. You cannot ask other

  108. people to do that. You have to decide, and you

  109. trust God as much as you choose. It's your choice.

  110. You can trust him a little and trust him a lot.

  111. It's totally your choice. Now, how do you get God's

  112. dream for your life?

  113. Well?

  114. You do three things, and it's the next three verses,

  115. First Ephesians three twenty. God, by his mighty power at

  116. work within us, is able to do far more than

  117. we would ever dare to ask or even dream of,

  118. infinitely beyond our highest prayers, desires, thoughts, or hopes. God says,

  119. think up the biggest dream you can think for your life,

  120. and guess what I can top that. I can do

  121. something bigger in your life than the biggest thing you

  122. could dream of. Now, I want you to circle a

  123. phrase in that dare to ask? Would you circle that?

  124. Here's the first characteristic of dreamers that God blesses dreamers

  125. dare to ask. If you want God's blessing on your

  126. life this year, you must dare to ask for it.

  127. You must say, God, this is my dream, and this

  128. is I'm daring to ask for it.

  129. So what do you do? Well?

  130. You ask God? First, God, what's your dream for my life?

  131. What do you want me to do? And then you

  132. ask yourself what have I always dreamed of doing? Let

  133. me ask you that right now? What's your dream? If

  134. I asked you, what have you always dreamed of doing?

  135. And it probably comes to mind and go and I'm

  136. gonna ask you, why aren't you doing it?

  137. Well?

  138. I don't have the time, and I have the money,

  139. don't have the ability, don't have the dream. So what

  140. you're talking about looking at yourself? Why don't you look

  141. to God? Where do you think that dream came from?

  142. You're listening to Pastor Rick's Daily Hope. Rick will be

  143. back in just a moment with the rest of today's lesson.

  146. The truth is most of us don't pay much attention

  147. to our health until something goes wrong. We put on

  148. a couple of pounds every year and think no big deal, right,

  149. But a few pounds over five or ten years really

  150. adds up and can even lead to major illnesses like

  151. diabetes and heart disease. That's why Pastor Rick work together

  152. with medical and fitness experts to create the Daniel Plan Study,

  153. the sixth session DVD and workbook study kit from Rick Warren,

  154. Doctor Daniel Aman and doctor Mark Hyman is an out

  155. of the box approach to a healthy lifestyle based on

  156. five essentials faith, food, fitness, focus, and friends. The Daniel

  157. Plan Study gives individuals in small groups the encouragement and

  158. accountability needed to succeed. If you've been watching this scale

  172. Here's Rick.

  173. If I ask you, what have you always dreamed of doing?

  174. And it probably becomes mindegol and I'm gonna ask you,

  175. why aren't you doing it? Well, I don't have the time,

  176. don't the money, don't have the ability, don't have the truth.

  177. So what you're talking about looking at yourself? Why don't

  178. you look to God? Where do you think that dream

  179. came from? God puts desires in our hearts. See, I've

  180. always dreamed of d D D. Well, why don't you

  181. go after it? And why don't you ask God? God

  182. blesses people who dare to ask God?

  183. Would you help me this dream?

  184. I've always wanted to, you know, be a whatever, I've

  185. always wanted to go to, whatever, I've always wanted to

  186. accomplish whatever, Well, why don't you ask God for it?

  187. The Bible says you have not because you ask not.

  188. Here's the question I want you to think through. You

  189. might even write this down. What would I attempt for God?

  190. If I knew I couldn't fail? Just ask yourself that,

  191. well would I attempt if I knew I couldn't fail?

  192. Let that expand your vision. It always starts with a dream.

  193. When you get a dream and you set a goal,

  194. goals are statements of faith. I believe I'm supposed to

  195. do this by such and such a date. I believe

  196. God will empower me and so if you want God's

  197. blessing on your life, first you dare to ask. Second,

  198. you believe God's promises. And that's the next verse. You

  199. believe God's promises. The Bible says, I am the Lord,

  200. the God of all people of the world. That's why

  201. we're doing the Peace plan. Is anything too hard for me?

  202. The answer is obviously no. You see, nothing is impossible

  203. with God, and today's impossibility is tomorrow's possibility. It's tomorrow's miracle.

  204. So you never let just because you've got a dream

  205. and say, well it's impossible.

  206. Well so what.

  207. A lot of things that are impossible become possible when

  208. you do it. Never let an impossible situation intimidate you.

  209. Let it motivate you to pray more, to believe more,

  210. to trust more, to experience more, to learn more, to

  211. grow more. That's how you grow. Just because your dream

  212. seems quote impossible, doesn't mean you shouldn't go after it.

  213. God is the God of the impossible. That's where faith works.

  214. Faith always works in the realm of the impossible. Hudson

  215. Taylor said there are three stages to God's will in

  216. your life, impossible, possible, and done, and a lot of

  217. things I've done in my life that were impossible when

  218. I started to do it. But I trusted God, and

  219. first I believed God and I dared to ask, And

  220. second I believed his promises. And we've talked about those

  221. over seven thousand of them in the Bible. You see

  222. Satan's favorite words to you and that dream he've always

  223. dreamed of doing.

  224. His favorite words are you can't do it.

  225. Let me say right now, when you get a dream

  226. and you hear the words you can't do it, those

  227. words aren't from God.

  228. That's not from God. That's from Satan.

  229. And he said you can't do it because he wants

  230. to keep you stuck in mediocrity. And as your pastor,

  231. I want your life to be an embarrassment to the devil.

  232. I want him to look in you and go, oh,

  233. I hate that person because they believe God, they dare

  234. to ask, and they trust God's promises.

  235. I hate that.

  236. If you're going to have God's blessing on your life,

  237. you dare to ask, you believe God's promises. And the

  238. third thing is you dream big. That's the next verse.

  239. God says, ask of me. There's that word ask, and

  240. I will make the nations, your inheritance, the ends of

  241. the earth.

  242. Your possession. What do these?

  243. Says says, Ask me for the world. I mean, that's

  244. about as big as you can get. You ask me

  245. for the world. I'll give you the nations. This is,

  246. by the way, as one of the promises that we're

  247. holding on to for the Peace plan. God says, ask me,

  248. and I'll give you the nations. You see, the size

  249. of your God should determine the size of your goal.

  250. And you haven't really believed God until you've attempted something

  251. that can't be done in the power of the flesh

  252. are done in your own effort. The only way you

  253. really please God is when you're living by faith, which

  254. means you're doing something you can't do on your own power.

  255. So let me just say this.

  256. When you begin to dream and you say, okay, God,

  257. I'm going to take a step of faith this year,

  258. I'm going to go after my dream. First, I'm going

  259. to pray and say, what's your dream for my life?

  260. Then I'm going to think what if I always wanted

  261. to do? What would I attempt if I knew I

  262. couldn't fail? And then I'm going to believe God's promises

  263. and I'm going to dream big and you go out there,

  264. and what's going to happen is you're going to go

  265. out and you're going to start your dream and you're

  266. going to fall flat on your face.

  267. What.

  268. Because there's three parts to a dream, this is very important.

  269. You need to understand this.

  270. When God gives you a dream, the first party gives

  271. you Phase one is what that's when you get the idea.

  272. He gives you an idea of what he wants you

  273. to do. That's phase one. And then you go out

  274. and you start trying to do it and you fall

  275. on your face and you think, well, maybe I just

  276. made that up. And then you come back and say, God,

  277. did I miss your dream? And God says, no, it's

  278. still the dream you just didn't wait for part two.

  279. And part two of the dream is how how am

  280. I going to do it? And the way God fulfills

  281. the dream in your life usually be the exact opposite

  282. of what you thought, okay, because you don't think like

  283. God thinks. And so He's gonna show you how to

  284. fulfill your dream in a way different than you thought

  285. you were gonna fulfill it. And then there comes the

  286. third part and this is the most important of all,

  287. and that's the win. God shows you what he wants

  288. to do in your life, then he shows you how,

  289. and then he shows you when. And it always comes

  290. in phases. And the win is the timing. And God's

  291. timing is always perfect. And a lot of times, well

  292. have you ever been in a hurry when God wasn't

  293. And you go, God, you know, I want this dream

  294. right now? And God says, well, yeah, it's a good dream,

  295. but I'll do it in my timing. It's not like

  296. it's not gonna happen. It's you know, the differens we

  297. know and not yet. You have to learn that as

  298. a little kid between know and not yet. God says

  299. a lot of times, not yet when I tell you

  300. it'll be right, you know, Kay, and I talk about

  301. how we have what we call polaroid vision.

  302. You know, if you look at a boiler picture.

  303. And you hold it up, the longer you look at it,

  304. the clearer it gets. When it first comes out of camera,

  305. it's pretty blurry. When I started Saddleback Church twenty five

  306. years ago, I didn't have envision all of what was

  307. going on here. I just knew this is the right

  308. thing to do. Go start the church. And you know,

  309. the longer I look at the picture, the clearer it gets,

  310. and I go, oh, that's what you had in mind.

  311. That's cool. Oh, and look at that. That's cool too. Oh,

  312. and there's something else coming up. It's kind of like

  313. reading the scroll. You read a little bit and unroll it,

  314. and you read a little bit and unroll it. God's

  315. not going to show you what he's going to do

  316. in your life all at once. If he did, it

  317. scare you to death. So what he does is just

  318. shows you a little bit of the time. So the

  319. dream's going to come in stages and phases. Now, the

  320. question is how big should my dream be? You say, okay, Rick,

  321. I'm supposed to dream big.

  322. I'm supposed to dare to ask.

  323. I'm supposed to believe the promises. I'm supposed to dream big.

  324. How big should my dream be? You ask yourself two questions.

  325. The first question is how much time do I have

  326. to give to it? If it's a dream, you got

  327. a year on it better not be a very big goal.

  328. If it's a dream, here you say, I can give

  329. the rest of my life to this.

  330. You can really dream big.

  331. You see we overestimate what we can do in a year,

  332. and we underestimate what we can do in ten or

  333. twenty or thirty or forty.

  334. So you have to look at you see.

  335. Most people set goals too low and try to accomplish

  336. them too quickly. What you need to do is set

  337. a bigger dream for your life and take a longer

  338. time to do it. I came here at saddle Back.

  339. I said, God, I'll go anywhere in the world and

  340. start at church if you give me the privilege of

  341. spending my entire life in one location. So it's twenty

  342. five years old, I said, I'm going to give my

  343. entire life to one goal, building Saddleback Church.

  344. So you guys are stuck with me. You know.

  345. Sorry, I'm going to be around for a long time

  346. unless God decides otherwise. I haven't read the rest of

  347. the scroll, but my goal is just to say God,

  348. I'll spend my entire life in one place.

  349. Well, you can do a lot.

  350. When you take forty or fifty years to do it,

  351. you can get a lot done. You just take you know,

  352. inch by inch. Anything's a cinch. It's like that old cliche,

  353. how do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time.

  354. So you ask yourself how much time do I have?

  355. And that determines the size of the dream. The other

  356. question you ask yourself to decide that your dream is

  357. what am I really shaped to do? Spiritual gifts, heart,

  358. your abilities, your personality, your experiences, the five things that

  359. make you, and just be honest. You must be optimistic

  360. and realistic at the same time. Now, I know you've

  361. heard motivational speakers say you know you can be anything

  362. you want in life. Well, it's not true. And you

  363. probably read some books that say you can be anything

  364. you want in life. It's just not true. Something you

  365. just stand up and say, hello, it's not true. What

  366. you can only be what God shaped you to be.

  367. If you try to be something that you're not shaped,

  368. wired gifted to do, guess what it causes. A little

  369. thing called stress. Stress is when you try to be

  370. something you're not. You you aren't and that's why so

  371. many people. I guess eighty percent of people in the

  372. world are in the wrong job. They're not being they're

  373. not you know how you know when you're shaped to

  374. do something, it's fun, you love to do it, you

  375. get I can't wait to go do that now.

  376. If you have that editude, I can't wait.

  377. If you don't have that attitude, you're likely in the

  378. wrong job because God wired you. When you're doing what

  379. you're shaped to do, you go, this feels good, this

  380. is me, and you're not as stressed.

  381. Stress comes from trying to be something you're not.

  382. I mean, somebody could tell me Rick, you can be

  383. whatever you want to be, and I said, I want

  384. to be an opera star. That would not only stress

  385. me and stress you having to listen to it, and

  386. you create stress for other people around you when you're

  387. doing things that you weren't gifted to do. So you

  388. look at how long you're going to focus on the goal,

  389. and you look at what you're shaped to do. Now,

  390. I want you to write down on your outline in

  391. SD okay inn SD that means no small dreams. I

  392. want to challenge you to dream great dreams for God.

  393. It's your first step in the walk of faith and

  394. it pleases God.

  395. All right. So step one and really.

  396. Getting God's blessing in your life is living by faith.

  397. And how do you do that? First, I get God's

  398. dream for my life.

  399. Second step faith is being willing to risk failure. Once

  400. I get a dream, I got to take some risks

  401. to go after it. And faith is being willing to

  402. risk failure to go after the dream that God has

  403. put in your mind and in your heart. You cannot

  404. go after a dream without taking some kind of risk.

  405. If there's no risk involved, it's not a dream from God.

  406. Because God wants you to live by faith, it'll be

  407. so big that you can't do it on your own.

  408. This is Pastor Rick's Daily Hope. We are so glad

  439. Today, I want to share a letter from John who

  440. says he's been reading the Daily Hope devotionals for ten years.

  441. Wow. Great John.

  442. John says he uses these written devotionals every morning to

  443. start his daily prayer and Bible reading, and he writes this,

  444. Pastor Rick, I started receiving your Daily Hope devotionals about

  445. ten years ago. Not only did they bless my life

  446. and help me with my daily walk, I would save

  447. them and send them to my friends when issues or

  448. questions would come up. So I look forward every morning

  449. to reading these devotionals, which typically start my daily prayer

  450. and Bible reading. You know, I recently got my boss

  451. signed up for Daily Hope devotionals and it hit me

  452. how powerful they really are. You know, my wife and

  453. I decided to support Daily Hope over and above our

  454. tithe to our church to help you bring one more

  455. to Jesus. Well, John, your message is so special to me.

  456. You have really blessed me with this letter because I'm

  457. glad for three reasons. First, you have grown as a

  458. Christian through Daily Hope. Second, I'm glad that you're using

  459. the Daily Hope to help you study God's word in

  460. a personal basis. And third, I want to thank you

  461. for caring enough to help other people that you have

  462. given generously of your funds and gifts to help us

  463. stay on the air and to allow us to actually

  464. even expand into other stations to take the good news

  465. of hope to places where it is desperately needed.

  466. So John, thank you, thank you, thank you.
