  6. relationally and emotionally by applying the five essentials needed for.

  7. A more vibrant life.

  8. If you want to have what it takes to live

  9. out your calling in life, stay with us for this

  10. amazing series. Now, in just a few moments, we're going

  11. to tell you about the Daniel Planned DVD study Kit,

  12. a sixth session video based study by Rick Warren, doctor

  13. Daniel Aman, and doctor Mark Hyman. This out of the

  14. box approach to a healthy lifestyle is based on five

  15. essentials faith, food, fitness, focus and friends. You can find

  16. out more right now by going to Pastorick dot com

  17. while you listen to today's message, or you can just

  18. text the word daily to eight hundred six hundred five

  19. thousand and four. That's Pastorick dot com, or the word

  20. daily to eight hundred six hundred five thousand and four.

  21. Right now, here's Pastor Rick with the final part of

  22. a message called the Awesome Power of Faith.

  23. How do you have a big dream without getting a

  24. big head. How do you have big goals without getting

  25. a big ego? How do big dreams and humility go together?

  26. Because very important, God wants us to live with humility.

  27. In fact, pride is the worst sin. Did you know

  28. that it's the worst sin. Pride is what got Satan

  29. kicked out of heaven. God hates pride, God says, He

  30. says it over and over, structure. I hate pride. He

  31. is against the proud, He opposes the pride prideful. Now,

  32. the middle letter pride is what I The middle letter

  33. sin is what it's when I want to be my

  34. own God, and I want to do my own thing,

  35. and I want to call the shots and I don't

  36. need God. I'll do what I want to do in life.

  37. That's called pride. That's the negative kind. We talked about

  38. good time earlier. And so God says, how do I,

  39. or you say, how do I have big dreams without

  40. getting a big ego? Well, let me just tell you

  41. from experience, it's not very hard for God to humble you.

  42. Do you have children, are you married? Do you have friends?

  43. You know? Listen, there are a thousand ways for God

  44. to humble you. You don't have to worry about that.

  45. God's problem in your life is not how I'll get

  46. you to be humble. He can do that very easily.

  47. His problem is getting you to dream bigger than you've

  48. ever dreamed before. That's the harder of the two. He said, Well,

  49. how will God keep you humble when you have a

  50. big Oh? There are lots of ways. Let me just mention,

  51. if you number one, you will be criticized unjustly. Count

  52. on it. It is not by accident that the most

  53. blessed people, the most blessed businesses, the most best ministries,

  54. are also the most criticized. What's the most blessed retail

  55. store in the world, Walmart? What's the most criticized Walmart?

  56. What's the biggest and most blessed fast food chain? McDonald's.

  57. What's the most criticized McDonald's. It just if you're gonna

  58. call the shots, you take the shots. If you're gonna

  59. be a pioneer, you're gonna get arrows in the back,

  60. And the moment you hang out your shingle, somebody's gonna

  61. start throwing stones at it. And the more God blesses you,

  62. the bigger target you become. So you will be criticized,

  63. you know, unjustly. Well what should your response be to that? Well,

  64. look up here on the screen. Second Corinthian six '

  65. eight says, we serve God, whether people honor us or

  66. despise us, whether they slammed or they praise us. He says,

  67. you know what, we don't really pay attention to either.

  68. As you're running the race of life. Over in the stands,

  69. there are people giving cheers, and they're people giving jeers.

  70. As I said, they're giving criticism or they're giving compliments.

  71. What do you do? You don't know listen really to either,

  72. don't pay much attention. You keep your eye on the goal,

  73. and you keep moving forward because God says, don't worry

  74. about that. But you will be criticized. My dad used

  75. to tell me, said, Rick, the hounds keep barking at

  76. the moon, but it still keeps shining, And all of

  77. barking in the world isn't going to stop the moon

  78. from shining. So this year there's going to be some

  79. dogs that bark at you, criticize you, tell you how

  80. you're doing things wrong. And let me tell you something,

  81. if you start going after your dream, there will be

  82. people in your life who don't like it because it

  83. upsets the apple cart. All of a sudden, you're doing

  84. something with your life and they aren't, and it makes

  85. them feel a little bad. Well, I'm sorry. You cannot

  86. live your life for the opinions of other people, so

  87. you'll be criticized. If you get a big dream from God,

  88. it will be so big you're bound to fail unless

  89. God bails you out. And you will have problems that

  90. are so big they will be solvable only by prayer.

  91. And you'll have to be on your knees independence because

  92. it'll be saying if you can accomplish it on your own,

  93. it's not a dream from God. And so you're going

  94. to have big problems that you'll have to be in

  95. prayer for and trust God for. And if you get

  96. a big dream and you go after it and you

  97. start taking risks and expect God to bless you, you're

  98. still gonna make dumb mistakes. I mean, you may be

  99. right in the center of God's will, but you're a

  100. human being and you're still going to do foolish stuff.

  101. Then that's, you know, humbling, I mean, humility is not

  102. denying your strengths. It's being honest. About your weaknesses. I mean,

  103. you have some great strengths, you also have some great weaknesses.

  104. We're all a bundle of them. And humility is not

  105. denying your strengths. It's not saying, oh no, no, I'm

  106. not good at that. I'm no good that's actually false humility.

  107. That's actually pride. I'm not good at that. Oh no, no, no,

  108. that's pride. That's showing they're not humility. Pride is saying, yeah,

  109. I'm really good at this, but you know what, I'm

  110. also not so good at that. Because nobody's good at everything, right,

  111. nobody's good at everything. I have some really great strengths,

  112. I also have some really great weaknesses. Just ask my

  113. family or most of you know them, do you know?

  114. And he say, I mean like bad fashion sense and

  115. stuff like that. And so you know, you just put

  116. up with each other and you take the good and

  117. the bad together. Another thing that will happen is other

  118. people take credit for your work. If you get a

  119. big dream, other people claim the credit for it. You know,

  120. God can do great things to the person who doesn't

  121. care who gets the credit, So you just keep moving on. So,

  122. as I said, it's very easy for God to humble you.

  123. It's much much harder for God to get you to

  124. believe bigger than you've ever believed before. Hebrews eleven one

  125. says God wants us to excit effect things from him.

  126. He says faith assures us of things we expect and

  127. convinces us of the existence of things we cannot see.

  128. We just come to God and say, Okay, God, you

  129. just take over. Here's the dream, here's my life, here's

  130. my reputation. You call the shots, and I'm gonna trust

  131. you from here on out. I don't know if you've

  132. ever said that to Jesus Christ. You take the wheel, Lord,

  133. you call the shots. You be the CEO of my life.

  134. You become the chairman of the board. I'm putting on

  135. the sign that says I'm under new management. You're in charge.

  136. I'm not. I saw a sign the other day, a

  137. bumperstick in a cart and said, God is my co pilot.

  138. He's not your co pilot. He's either driving or he's

  139. not in the car.

  140. You're listening to Pastor Rick's Daily Hope. Rick will be

  141. back in just a moment with the rest of today's lesson.

  142. You can sign up for Pastor Rick's free email devotional

  144. The truth is most of us don't pay much attention

  145. to our health until something goes wrong. We put on

  146. a couple of pounds every year and think no big deal, right,

  147. But a few pounds over five or ten years really

  148. adds up and it can even lead to major illnesses

  149. like diabetes and heart disease. That's why Pastor Rick work

  150. together with medical and fitness experts to create the Daniel

  151. Plan Study. The sixth session DVD and workbook study kit

  152. from Rick Warren, doctor Daniel Aman, and doctor Mark Hyman

  153. is an out of the box approach to a healthy

  154. lifestyle based on five essentials faith, food, fitness, focus and friends.

  155. The Daniel Plan Study gives individuals in small groups the

  156. encouragement and accountability needed to succeed. If you've been watching

  157. the scale go up lately, or your health is in

  158. trouble because of your weight, it's not too lateoin the

  159. thousands of people who've lost weight improve their health and

  160. improved their relationships through the Daniel Plan. We'll send you

  161. a copy of the Daniel Plan DVD Steady Kid to

  162. say thanks when you give a gift to Daily Hope

  163. to help share the hope of Jesus with people around

  164. the world.

  171. so contact us today.

  172. Once again. Here's Rick. Faith is never giving up. It's

  173. never giving up. When Jesus is at the wheel of

  174. your life. You don't have to worry about it. You

  175. don't have to worry about rocking the boat when he's

  176. in it. Faith is persistent, it's diligent, It keeps on

  177. keeping on. The Bible says this, be brave, be strong,

  178. don't give up. God brought some of you here just

  179. to hear this one. Don't give up. Expect God to

  180. get here soon. Do you know what our nation needs

  181. men of character, women of character. Well, we need people

  182. of compassion and consistency and character and competence. And God says,

  183. I'm looking for people to use and they don't give

  184. up when the slightest little problem comes along. But they

  185. just keep on keeping on. You see, great people are

  186. just ordinary people with an extraordinary amount of determination. Great

  187. people are just ordinary people who don't quit. We have

  188. become a nation of quitters, where at the first thing

  189. we go. I don't want to do what's consistent. I

  190. want to do what's convenient. I want to do what's comfortable.

  191. I want to do what's popular. I don't want to

  192. just keep on. I'm keeping on doing the right thing.

  193. I don't want to do the easy thing. And as

  194. I've said many times, when you're coast and you're always

  195. heading downhill, great people never give up. You know. The

  196. secret of success is just outlast your critics. They're all

  197. gonna die anyway, so don't worry about it. Some one

  198. eighteen one oh nine says this, my life hangs in

  199. the balance. Some of you feel like that right now,

  200. My life hangs in the balance. But I will not

  201. give up obedience to your word. What's he's saying there,

  202. never doubt in the dark what God has shown you

  203. in the light. Some of you, right now you feel

  204. like your life is in the balance. You go, you know,

  205. my finances are in the toilet. My job, I'm hanging

  206. on by a thin thread. My marriage is about to

  207. come apart. My relationship with my boyfriend or my girlfriend,

  208. it's just not working out. I'm having conflict with my parents,

  209. with my kids, I'm dealing with illness after illness and

  210. all these other things. And you go, I'm you know,

  211. my life is hanging in the balance. Well, the person

  212. of faith says, but I will not give up obedience

  213. to your word. Most of you know that I had

  214. my mid life crisis at age twenty six, and back

  215. in nineteen eighty one. You know, if you're gonna have

  216. a mid life crisis, if you're gonna have losses, it's

  217. good to have them in preseason. You don't have them

  218. in October during the World Series. You know, if you're

  219. gonna lose some games, it's good to kind of lose

  220. them early on. You can get some lessons out that.

  221. It's much more strategic. So I decided to have my

  222. mid life crisis at twenty six and get it over with.

  223. And that entire year I went through a year of depression.

  224. And my goal wasn't oh, God, go the great Church.

  225. My goal is God, will you get me through Sunday?

  226. And I was like, wherever I walk. There was this

  227. dark cloud over my head for an entire year. I

  228. really wanted to give up, but I didn't. Every hour

  229. I would think, should I really be doing this? Shouldn't

  230. somebody else be leading saddleback church? Am I really called

  231. to be the pastor of this church? Does God really

  232. even want this church? And I was so filled with

  233. doubts and fears and questions, and those doubts and fears

  234. were causing me to say, just stop, go do something else,

  235. don't build this church. And it was an entire year

  236. of depression. And I remember I went out to took

  237. my family out to the desert to Phoenix, and I

  238. took Ka to her parents and the kids to the parents,

  239. and then I went on out in the desert and

  240. just spend some time alone with God. And out there,

  241. I said, God, there's a couple things that I've got

  242. doubts in my mind. Number One, I don't think I'm

  243. good enough for this job. Okay, I'm not the man

  244. of God I ought to be. I don't deserve this.

  245. I'm not good enough for this job. And I said

  246. number two, I can't handle it. It's growing so fast.

  247. The church had grown from just my wife and I

  248. at the end of the first year to one hundred

  249. and fifty people, and I thought, shoot, at that rate,

  250. in a few years, we might have several thousand people.

  251. Little did I know. So I was haunted by these stairs.

  252. I'm not good enough and I can't handle it. And

  253. when I was out in the desert, God said three

  254. things to me. Said, you're right, Rick. Number one, you're

  255. not good enough, but you never will be good enough.

  256. And I don't do things in your life because of

  257. your goodness. I'd do it because of my grace. And

  258. you need to just accept the fact that all of

  259. us are a trophy of God's grace. I don't deserve

  260. to be saved and on my way to heaven, much

  261. less lead you folks. I don't deserve any of the

  262. blessings in my life. I never have. It's just a

  263. free gift. It's a grace. So stop trying to be

  264. a perfectionist, relax and just accept God's gift. And the

  265. next thing he said, is whose churches? And I said, well,

  266. it's your church. Lord. He said, then let me lead it.

  267. And he said I'll tell you what, Rick, You focus

  268. on building people, and I'll build the church. Jesus said

  269. I will build my church, and I said, you got

  270. to deal God. And that's where we came up with

  271. the idea of the purpose driven strategy, the paradigm of

  272. helping people grow the membership, maturity, ministry, mission, and magnification

  273. to know God and to grow in God and to

  274. serve God and to share God and to worship God.

  275. And so for twenty six years now we have focused

  276. not on building this church. We don't focus on that.

  277. We focus on building people. And that's why we went

  278. fifteen years without a building. We're more interested in building

  279. people than build a building. And I look back and

  280. I go okay. And now out of those two facts

  281. that ultimately it's all by grace and ultimately it's God's responsibility.

  282. Out of that came the solid conviction in my life

  283. that I am God's man for this church at this

  284. point in time, and nothing can shape that from my life.

  285. That conviction is burning into my heart. I am God's

  286. man for this church at this point in time, and

  287. no criticism, no compliment, no illness, no distraction, no disturbance,

  288. no problem, no difficulty, no delay can shake that conviction

  289. in my heart. And you need to get that kind

  290. of conviction about God's dream for your life. You need

  291. to be able to say, I know that this is

  292. what God wants me to do with my life, and

  293. you move forward with conviction. How by starting on these steps.

  294. The Bible says this even good people, even if good

  295. people fall seven times, they will get back up. I

  296. like this verse because it says even good people stumble,

  297. not just bad people. Good people fall. We all make

  298. mistakes on a daily basis. The difference between righteous and

  299. unrighteous is the good people get back up. It's not

  300. a sin to fall. It's a sin to be a

  301. victim and wimp out about it and say, well, I'll

  302. just stay down here. Something goes wrong in your life,

  303. you give up. Say you know, I tried a small group,

  304. and my small group, those people in that group they

  305. were weirdos and we just didn't get along and I

  306. had nothing in common with them. So I'm giving up

  307. on small groups. Oh come on, that's like saying I

  308. had a bad meal, so I'm going to give up

  309. on food. No, you just make up for it. Find

  310. another restaurant. You find a bad doctor, you get a

  311. different one. You don't like a TV show, you turn

  312. the channels. You don't like your small group, get in

  313. a good one, but you still need it. You don't

  314. just quit give up on it, so you keep on

  315. keeping on, says, if they fall, they just get back up.

  316. Failure is never final, and you are never a failure

  317. till you quit, and it is always too soon to quit. See,

  318. you don't determine a person's greatness by their talent or

  319. their health to their education. You determine a person's greatness

  320. by what it takes to discourage them. So what does

  321. it take to discourage you from going after your dream?

  322. One word of well, I don't think that's a good

  323. idea from a friend or a relative or a family member.

  324. The Bible says this in Glatians six ' nine. Let

  325. us not get tired of doing good, doing what is

  326. right for after a while, Notice there's a time to

  327. lay there. We will reap a harvest of blessing if

  328. we don't get discouraged and give up. You want to

  329. know how many times I've wanted to resign at Sadleback Church.

  330. Just every Monday morning, I'm going God, surely somebody could

  331. have done a better job yesterday, somebody. This thing's too

  332. big for any one person. God is on you know

  333. all these complaints. God need to just keep on keeping on.

  334. I may not be real bright sometimes, but I'll tell

  335. you what. I don't know how to quit. I don't

  336. know how to give up. You See what I'm saying

  337. is this God works in your life according to your faith.

  338. The Bible says, without faith, it's impossible to please God.

  339. The Bible says, whatsoever is not a faith is sin.

  340. The Bible says, according to your faith, it will be

  341. done unto you. So what are you doing in faith?

  342. You need to ask yourself every day when you get up, God,

  343. what can I do today that will require faith? Because

  344. that's what's going to please God. Now, there are a

  345. lot of things in your life you don't have control over,

  346. but the most important thing you have one hundred percent

  347. control over how much you choose to believe God. God

  348. uses people who expect him to act, who never give up,

  349. who take risks in faith, who get his dream and

  350. go after That's the kind of person God uses. That's

  351. power heads and in your mind. I want you to

  352. pray this prayer, Dear God, give me the dream you

  353. have for my life, Burn it into my heart. What

  354. you want me to do. Help me, Lord to be

  355. willing to risk failure in going after that dream, and

  356. help me to expect you to use me and to

  357. bless me, and help me to never give up. Jesus

  358. take the wheel of my life, and you be the

  359. driver from here on out. I want to trust in

  360. you and I want to grow in faith in your name. Amen.

  361. Hi everybody, this is Rick and I hope you enjoyed

  362. today's broadcast. You know, if you just prayed that prayer

  368. to Christ. And I'll send you some material that will

  399. Today is the last day to get this awesome study tool,

  400. so please contact us today. Here's Pastor Rick with a

  401. letter from one of our listeners.

  402. Today, I want to share a letter from John who

  403. says he's been reading the Daily Hope Devotionals for ten years. Wow,

  404. great John. John says he uses these written devotionals every

  405. morning to start his daily prayer and Bible reading, and

  406. he writes this, Pastor Rick, I started receiving your Daily

  407. Hope Devotionals about ten years ago. Not only did they

  408. bless my life and help me with my daily walk,

  409. I would save them and send them to my friends

  410. when issues or questions would come up. So I look

  411. forward every morning to reading these devotionals, which typically start

  412. my daily prayer and Bible reading. You know, I recently

  413. got my boss signed up for Daily Hope Devotionals and

  414. it hit me how powerful they really are. You know,

  415. my wife and I decided to support Daily Hope over

  416. and above our tithe to our church to help you

  417. bring one more to Jesus. Well, John, your message is

  418. so special to me. You have really blessed me with

  419. this letter because I'm glad for three reasons. First, that

  420. you have grown as a Christian through Daily Hope. I'm

  421. glad that you're using the Daily Hope to help you

  422. study God's Word in a personal basis. And third, I

  423. want to thank you for karen enough to help other

  424. people that you have given generously of your funds and

  425. gifts to help us stay on the air and to

  426. allow us to actually even expand into other stations to

  427. take the good news of hope to places where it

  428. is desperately needed. So John, thank you, thank you, thank you.

  429. If you'd like to let Rick know how this broadcast
