  1. This is Pastor Rick's Daily Hope, the audio broadcast ministry

  2. of Pastor Rick Warren. Today we continue with our series

  3. called Doing Business with God. In this series, Rick helps

  4. you understand why you work, what you should be working for,

  5. and how God can use you in your workplace. Right now,

  6. here's Pastor Rick with the final part of a message called.

  7. The purpose of Work. Now we come to the sixth purpose,

  8. which is the highest purpose of all. And this is

  9. the purpose not of identity or necessity, or charity or

  10. credibility or maturity. It is the purpose of eternity. And

  11. this is thinking long term about what your job's implication is.

  12. Eternity is I use my job to build God's kingdom.

  13. I use my job to build God's kingdom. You can

  14. use your work to bring glory to God. You can

  15. use your career to bring glory to God. You can

  16. use your skills, you can use your business. You can

  17. use your workplace to further God's kingdom. So how do

  18. I do that? Oh? There are lots of ways, lots

  19. of ways you can use your business to further God's kingdom.

  20. One way is to use the contacts that your businesses

  21. have to spread the good news and to tell other

  22. people about the good news to pass it on. This

  23. is why we have in the peace peace and assist

  24. the poor using business people to go out and teach

  25. businesses which will assist the poor to create jobs. Let

  26. me give you an example. While back, I got a

  27. call between the services of this guy named Eric Stamminger.

  28. He's a German guy calling from Germany. He said, my

  29. name is Eric Stammiger. I am the president and CEO

  30. of Adidas. You know what Adidas is, you know the

  31. shoes and all that. Actually it's called Adi Das in

  32. German because it's named after Adi Dossler, who is the founder.

  33. He said, my name is Eric Stanminger. I'm the CEO

  34. of Adi Das. He said, I have just finished reading

  35. Purpose Driven Life. It changed my life. I've given my

  36. life to Christ. I will come anywhere in the world

  37. to meet you. How soon can we meet? I said, Well,

  38. why don't you come to church next week? He said,

  39. I will. He said, I got to go to China.

  40. I got to close the deal in China. Then I

  41. got to go to Tokyo close the deal there. I'll

  42. be back over in California. I'll be there next Sunday.

  43. So the next Sunday, the president and CEO of Adidas

  44. came and came to church, and I went back and

  45. we sat down on a couple of chairs in the

  46. back and I said, so, mister Stamminger, tell me how

  47. can I help you. He said, well, I just need

  48. to know one thing I've read purpose Driven Life. It's

  49. changed my life. I'm a Christian. Now I want to

  50. know should I resign a CEO of Adidas and become

  51. a pastor? I said, let me show you how to

  52. use your job for the kingdom, how to be a

  53. kingdom builder, not just a wealth builder. I said, do

  54. you have an executive team at Adidas? He said yes,

  55. there are six of us. I said, are any of

  56. the others Christians? He said, well, actually two of them are.

  57. I said, you start meeting with those two and start

  58. praying for the other three. And your first ministry is

  59. to win your six coworkers to christ That's your first job.

  60. That's your first ministry to win the people close to you.

  61. Nobody else is as likely to win them as you are,

  62. So you start working on that. I said, number two,

  63. how many employees do you have an Adidas? I don't remember.

  64. I think he said twenty five thousand. I said, that's

  65. called the megachurch. I said, your congregation is bigger than

  66. most pastors will ever preach to. So you've got twenty

  67. five thousand members in your congregation, they're all employees. You

  68. start praying for them, you start being available to them,

  69. you start putting instituting good Christian principles in your business.

  70. I said, would you like to influence other CEOs? I

  71. said yeah. I said, then you need to stay at

  72. a CEO, because you'll have far more influence on them

  73. as a CEO then as a pastor or missionary anybody else.

  74. I said, would you like to influence culture? He said, well, yes,

  75. of course I would. I said, then you've got to

  76. influence the culture makers if you want to influence culture,

  77. and the culture makers are musicians and athletes and celebrities

  78. and people in the media. I said, do you do

  79. celebrity endorsements? He said yes. I said, of course you do.

  80. And I said, the next time you do a celebrity endorsement,

  81. you bring that pro athlete in, you sit them down

  82. and you say, look, I'm not just your endorser. I'm

  83. not just your sponsor. You're going to make a lot

  84. of money off me. But I'm not just your sponsor.

  85. I want to be your friend. And here's my business card.

  86. And when you get in trouble, and when you have

  87. a need, please call me personally. And then you just

  88. wait because the problem will come. And celebrities have rovos.

  89. They're just more visible. And I said, they'll have a

  90. slump in their game, or they'll have a drug crisis,

  91. or a marriage crisis, or a health crisis, or an injury,

  92. or a financial crisis, or something will happen and they're

  93. going to need you. And when they come back to

  94. you and they ask for your help, then you can

  95. share Jesus with them. You do not move where you are,

  96. stay where you are and be that person. Does that

  97. makes sense. I know a number of Christian businessmen in

  98. Hong Kong been there many times who were concerned about

  99. mainland China because the churches were under persecution by the

  100. Communist government and they weren't always allowed the freedom. And

  101. so they decided, how can we be planning churches in

  102. China when some of the places we can't plant them.

  103. They'd just immediately be outlawed. So these businessmen began building

  104. factories in mainland China and putting churches in the factories.

  105. In today's globalized economy, the new missionaries are businessmen and businesswomen.

  106. If you are a businessman, there's not a country in

  107. the world who doesn't want to know what you're doing.

  108. They want to know about your distribution and your products,

  109. stuff like that. There are many countries they're not going

  110. to allow a pastor in, they're not going to allow

  111. a full time missionary in. But you, as a businessman

  112. or businesswoman, can go where nobody else can go. Business

  113. People are the missionaries for the great commission of the

  114. twenty first century. That is being a kingdom builder, not

  115. simply a wealth builder. You're using your business for the

  116. one thing that's going to outlast everything else, the Kingdom

  117. of God, the Church, God's family. Another way you can

  118. do it is by making money in your business and

  119. giving that for kingdom causes. And I know many businesses

  120. like that. One of them is hobby lobby. It is

  121. one of the most profitable businesses ROI return on investment

  122. in America, and because it's all built on Christian principles,

  123. they tie their money to help other things and God

  124. continues to bless that business. Bless that business. Bless that business,

  125. because they're using the profits for God's kingdom. The employees

  126. are better paid than anywhere else. I keep raised on.

  127. They're making great wages, and because the people at the

  128. top are generous, that blessing is on that business, and

  129. they keep going on and on. So I talk to

  130. the Greens about one of the projects we're working on,

  131. what we're calling the Final Frontier, which is one of

  132. our ten decade of Destiny goals. Twice in the New Testament,

  133. twice in the Book of Revelation, it says that in

  134. heaven one day there will be people from every tribe,

  135. every nation, and every language around the throne of God

  136. in heaven. I take that serious. That God wants people

  137. from every nation, every language, and every tribe. Somebody is

  138. going to be there in heaven. Here's the problem. There

  139. are three four hundred tribes in the world that have

  140. no Christian no Bible, and no church. So there's nobody

  141. going to be in heaven from that tribe. Yet somebody's

  142. got to get to that tribe. We call that the

  143. Final Frontier. And I began to enlist other churches to

  144. help us do this. And when I'd go out and speak,

  145. I'd encourage others, and people were signing commitment cards, and

  146. I was asking a church to adopt a people group.

  147. In the last two years, we've taken four hundred off

  148. that list. Used to be thirty eight hundred. It's now

  149. thirty four hundred. Can you imagine getting to heaven one

  150. day and you say, yeah, you know, my business it

  151. wasn't that big. But we helped fulfill the great commission.

  152. We helped raise the money by the stuff we sold

  153. to help get the Bible in the last translations and

  154. get churches in the last tribes that needed to be done.

  155. Let me show you some amazing promises and we'll close.

  156. They're on your outline. Matthew six thirty three is a

  157. good verse for businessmen. Jesus says, be concerned above everything

  158. else with the Kingdom of God, more than my business. Yeah,

  159. even than more than your business. Be concerned above everything

  160. else with the Kingdom of God and what He requires

  161. of you. And he God will provide you with all

  162. the other things. So what do you need more of? Well,

  163. I need more staff that goes into all the other things.

  164. I need more distribution that goes in all the other things.

  165. I need a smarter salesforce that goes in all the

  166. other things. I need an innovative idea for my business

  167. that goes in all the other things. Be concerned with

  168. God's kingdom and what it requires you. He will provide

  169. you with all the other things. Look at the next

  170. verse there on your outline. We know that the same

  171. God who raised Jesus will also raise us one day.

  172. That's in heaven. And as God's grace brings more and

  173. more people to Christ. In other words, as the kingdom

  174. is built, as it spread, as we build the Kingdom,

  175. as God's grace brings more and more people to Christ,

  176. there will be great thanksgiving and God will receive more

  177. and more glory. Kingdom builders reach one more for Jesus.

  178. Matthew six point twenty. Jesus said, store up for yourselves

  179. treasure in heaven. Circle the phrase for yourselves. Did you

  180. know that you can store up for yourselves treasure in heaven,

  181. not say to store up for God? God that needed

  182. God says, you can create a bank account in heaven

  183. that is eternal, pays the highest dividends and nobody can

  184. steal it. From you. You can store up for yourself

  185. treasure in heaven. That's the best investment you'll ever make.

  186. How do you do that by using your work and

  187. using your business to get people there? The only way

  188. you can in heaven is to invest in people who

  189. are going there. Your business isn't going to heaven, your

  190. car isn't going to heaven, your house isn't going to heaven.

  191. But people are. And when you invest in people getting

  192. them into heaven, you are storing up treasure in heaven

  193. to use for eternity. So here's the big question. I

  194. wrote it on your outline. Will I be a wealth

  195. builder or will I be a kingdom builder? You can

  196. use your work to build wealth. That's okay, nothing wrong

  197. with that. Trying to make a living, make a profit, fine,

  198. But it's short sighted. God says, don't just be a

  199. wealth builder, be a kingdom builder. Which of those are

  200. you going to circle? Will I be a wealth builder?

  201. Circle that? Or will I be a kingdom builder? Circle that? Now,

  202. let me close this. You don't realize how important your

  203. work is. You may think your work is I work

  204. at a Starbucks. You know, I work at a fast

  205. food place. I help clean in a certain place. I

  206. don't care what you do, whether you are a mother

  207. of preschoolers or you're the CEO of a corporation. Your

  208. work has far more significance than you realize because it

  209. wasn't meant for simply necessity. God says, I want to

  210. use your work, no matter what it is, for identity.

  211. I want you to express your talents through that. I

  212. want you to use it for maturity. I want you

  213. to let it make you a more stronger and a

  214. more mature and a more patient Christian. I want to

  215. use it for credibility. I want you to use your

  216. platform to influence the people you come in contact with

  217. for the good news and the gospel. I want you

  218. to use it for charity. I want you to figure

  219. out how to live on a little bit less so

  220. you can give a little bit more so you're storing

  221. up treasure in heaven. If you're behind on your tithe,

  222. you get caught up on that. But you learn to

  223. be generous. And I want you to be a kingdom builder,

  224. not just a wild builder. I want you to have

  225. a priority in your life. You can waste your life,

  226. you can spend your life, or you can invest your life.

  227. And the best use of your life is to invest

  228. it in the King of God because it's the only thing.

  229. It's going to last forever. One day, God is going

  230. to do an audit on your work. Did you know

  231. that You're going to have a job interview? One day,

  232. God's going to do an assessment on your work, last

  233. versa on your outline. It is going to come a

  234. time of testing at the judgment day to see what

  235. kind of work each builder is done. Where you're a

  236. wealth builder or were you a kingdom builder. Everyone's work

  237. will be put through the fire that means mine and

  238. yours to see whether or not it keeps its value.

  239. What's the value identity, maturity, credibility, charity, priority, eternity. Everyone's

  240. work will be put through the fire to see whether

  241. or not it keeps its value. If the work survives

  242. the fire, that person will receive a reward. But if

  243. the work is burned up, the builder will suffer a

  244. great loss. The builders themselves will be saved, but like

  245. someone escaping a fire. In other words, this has nothing

  246. to do with salvation. You're in heaven, but you're going

  247. to lose reward. So here's the question. Have you had

  248. a shallow conception of your work. You just thought ought

  249. just get money, put food on the table. No, no, no,

  250. far more significant than that. Are you ready to step

  251. up to all six of God's purposes for your work?

  252. Will you become a purpose driven businessman with these six purposes?

  253. Will you become a purpose driven business woman? Will you

  254. become a purpose driven owner operator? Will you become a

  255. purpose driven employee? Will you become a purpose driven professional?

  256. Will you say, God, I'm going to give you my

  257. work for not just one, but for all six of

  258. the purposes that you planned for my work to be.

  259. That's power heads. As I pray, follow me in this prayer, Father,

  260. I realize that while I'm at work, you're working on me,

  261. and I want you to use my job for all

  262. six purposes in my life. Please use my job to

  263. express what you made me to be. Help me in

  264. this series to find the right job for my shape.

  265. Use my career to develop my character. I want to

  266. use my job as a platform to bring people to you,

  267. to share the good news. I want to use my

  268. job to be able to help others financially and to

  269. give to others. I want to use my job to

  270. help further your kingdom, and I want to use my

  271. job to prepare to serve your purposes in eternity. I

  272. want to be a kingdom builder. Please use this series

  273. to help me succeed in my work, and I will

  274. honor you with my life, with my time, with my

  275. tithe and by giving my best, knowing that I'm really

  276. working for you. If you've never invited Christ in your life,

  277. said Jesus, Christ, become the CEO of my life. Become

  278. the manager of my life, the president, the chairman of

  279. the board. Jesus be the director of my life. I

  280. want to be under new management and I want to

  281. follow you from this day forward in your name. I

  282. pray Amen. Hi everybody, this is Rick, and I hope

  283. you enjoyed today's broadcast. You know, if you just prayed

  284. that prayer for the very first time, or you just

  285. recommitted your life to Jesus again today, would you let

  286. me know about it. There's something real about sharing your commitment.

  287. So write me Rick at Pastorrick dot com and say, Rick,

  288. I prayed that prayer of commitment. I gave my life

  289. to Christ, and I'll send you some material that will

  290. help you on your journey with Jesus, and I'll also

  291. pray for you. God bless you.

  292. Thank you so much for listening to Pastor Rick's Daily Hope.

  293. We've got some great news to share with you. Very

  294. generous friends have given a ten thousand dollars matching grant

  295. to this ministry. That means every dollar you give right

  296. now to help Daily Hope share the transforming love of

  297. Jesus with people around the world will be matched up

  298. to ten thousand dollars. Here's Rick to tell you more.

  299. You know, I just want to take a quick second

  300. to say thank you everybody. Because of your generosity, we're

  301. able to take the hope of Jesus Christ into places

  302. where there are no Bibles, no believers, and nobody of Christ,

  303. no churches at all. Now, as you pray about giving,

  304. I want to ask you to ask God about sending

  305. a gift that's the largest you're able to give. Because

  306. at this point of the year we have a donor

  307. who is offered to match your gift. That means what

  308. you give will be doubled. We get twice the bang

  309. for the buck. In other words, so please respond quickly

  310. and a give in such a way that we can

  311. maximize it. Through this matching gift, and I want to

  312. ask you this, would you pray for us at Daily Hope.

  313. Pray as we reach out to people around the globe

  314. with hope that people will find Christ by the thousands

  315. and tens of thousands and hundreds of thousands. So thank

  316. you for being a partner with me.

  317. To getting the message, just go to Pastorick dot com

  318. or text the word hope to eight hundred, six hundred

  319. five thousand and four and have your gift matched up

  320. to ten thousand dollars.

  321. That's Pastorick dot com. Or text the word hope to

  322. eight hundred six hundred five thousand and four. Be sure
