  1. Hello, everybody, This is Pastor Rick's Daily Hope. Thank you

  2. so much for joining us today, and if you're brand new,

  3. welcome to the Daily Hope family. We hope you'll enjoy

  4. the teachings of Pastor Rick Warren right here. I'm so

  5. excited for all of you to learn about your shape.

  6. It might not be the shape you're thinking of right now.

  7. Rick loves to use acrostics and this one is shape

  8. your shape, your spiritual gifts, heart abilities, personality and experiences.

  9. And one of the reasons I love this series and

  10. have shared it with so many friends is because Rick

  11. talks about the way God wired you and why you

  12. need not just know your shape, but how to use

  13. it to do the things that God designed you to do.

  14. All right, let's get right to it. Here's Rick with

  15. part two of a message called Why God shaped you

  16. the way He did.

  17. Okay, so God made me unique. There's nobody else like me.

  18. I've got I'm shaped and I'm going to discover it

  19. over the next five or six weeks.

  20. Why should I even care? Oh? You should care.

  21. There are a lot of reasons your success or failure

  22. in life, your satisfaction or dissatisfaction in life and a

  23. lot of other things that depend upon it. But tonight

  24. is this introduction. Let me give you this four things

  25. real quickly. Why you have to care about your shape

  26. Number one because my shape reveals God's purpose for me.

  27. It reveals God's purpose for me. The way you find

  28. out what God wants you to do with your life is.

  29. To discover how He shaped you.

  30. And the better you understand that, the more clear what

  31. God wants you to do with your life will be.

  32. In architecture, they have a phrase that goes like this

  33. form follows function. All architects know this form follows function,

  34. And what that means is, tell me what you want

  35. the building to be used for, and then I'll tell

  36. you how to form it. Tell me what the function

  37. of it is, and then I'll tell you what to build.

  38. To build it.

  39. If you want the function to be a church, will

  40. you build it one way. If you want it to

  41. be a cafeteria, you build a building another way. If

  42. you want it to be a school or a theater,

  43. or a business or an office, then you build it

  44. every way. Tell me what the function is, what you're

  45. going to do in it, and then we will design

  46. it to fit that function.

  47. And that's how it works in architecture.

  48. But with human beings it's the exact opposite. In human beings,

  49. function follows form. Function follows form. In other words, figure

  50. out how God shaped me, and then I'll know what

  51. his purpose is for my life. Figure out how he

  52. formed me, and then I'll know his will for the

  53. rest of my life. If I figure out how He

  54. wired me up, that will give me a pretty good

  55. clue as to what he expects me to do, because

  56. God would not give me gifts and heart and ability

  57. and personality and experience in one area and then say, oh,

  58. by the way, we're gonna ignore all that, and I

  59. want you to do this over here that you hate

  60. to do and you're bad act. If you're good at something,

  61. it's a pretty good indication that's what God wants you

  62. to do. We're gonna look at this in great detail

  63. in the weeks ahead. But knowing how you're shaped gives

  64. you the direction of your life. That's why it's so

  65. important you need this series. God said this to Jeremiah

  66. in chapter one.

  67. Before I shaped you. There's that word again, Before I

  68. shaped you in the womb. I knew all.

  69. About you before you saw the light of day, I

  70. had holy.

  71. Plans for you. Would you circle that holy plans?

  72. God had holy plans for you before you were even born,

  73. before you came out of your before you saw the

  74. light of day. God said, I'd already had all these

  75. plans designed for you, he says to Jeremiah, a spokesman

  76. to the nations. That's what I had in mind for you.

  77. And did you know that God had something in mind

  78. for you before you popped out of your mama?

  79. He did.

  80. God had something in mind for you. He already had

  81. decided what he wanted you to do with your life.

  82. Now here's the thing. God won't force you.

  83. To do his plan. You can waste your life. You

  84. can blow your life, you can use it on all

  85. kinds of personal self centered all kinds of things, and

  86. totally miss God's plan and purpose for your life. In fact,

  87. most people do. And that's the tragedy. And that's why

  88. they're so frustrated and why they're lonely, and why they

  89. worry and why they feel depressed, because they're trying to

  90. do their thing and be something that somebody else wants

  91. them to be, rather than what God wanted them to

  92. do and be what God I wanted them to be.

  93. God says, before you.

  94. Were even born, I had holy plans for you, and

  95. he had stuff in mind. Number two not only because

  96. it reveals God's purpose for you, because it equips me

  97. to serve him. The Bible says this in Isaiah forty nine.

  98. God formed me in my mother's womb to be his servant,

  99. and he commissioned me. God has a mission for you

  100. that he has commissioned you to do. God says, I

  101. shaped you to serve me, and I made you for

  102. a mission. I shaped you to serve me, and I

  103. made you for a mission. And if there's a life

  104. mission that God has for you that nobody else in

  105. this planet can do, nobody else may even know about it.

  106. But it's what God wants.

  107. You to do with your life.

  108. And maybe you've missed that mission, and maybe you've misserving God.

  109. And I'm saying, okay, let's start today. Let's make the

  110. rest of your life the best of your life. Let's

  111. don't blow it for all of your life. Let's just say, Okay,

  112. I messed up a few years, but now I'm going

  113. to shape, find my shape, observe God. Then I'm going

  114. to find my mission and do it and be what

  115. God made me to be and do what He made

  116. me to do. Now, God will never ask you to

  117. do anything in life that he hasn't already given you

  118. the ability to do. So you look at your abilities,

  119. you go, I'm good at that. That's what God wants.

  120. Me to do.

  121. The third thing, because life is a test. Life is

  122. a test. Now this is a big one. You need

  123. to know your shape because this is preparation for eternity.

  124. We talked about this so many times, that this life

  125. is preparation for the next life in heaven where you're

  126. going to spend trillions of years and on this side

  127. you're only going to spend eighty or one hundred years.

  128. And God says, this is a test. I'm testing to

  129. see you what you do with what you've been given

  130. on earth, and based on that, I will determine what

  131. I give you to do in heaven for eternity. One day,

  132. you're going to stand before God and he's going to ask.

  133. You two questions.

  134. Sometime within the next one hundred years, you're going to

  135. stand before God, and when you stand before him, he's

  136. going to give you the final exam. And my job

  137. as your pastor, who loves you, is to help you

  138. prepare for that exam. Fortunately, as God wants you to

  139. pass it, and He's already told us the answers. Now,

  140. the first question God's going to ask you is this,

  141. what did you do with my son Jesus Christ. He's

  142. not going to ask you were you Catholic or Baptist,

  143. or Buddhist or Jewish or Muslim, or he's not going

  144. to ask you what religion you are. He's going to say,

  145. what did you do with my son Jesus Christ. I

  146. send him to earth to be your savior, to die

  147. on the cross for you.

  148. Did you accept that.

  149. Or did you just blow that off? Did you accept

  150. what I sent him to do, to give forgiveness, to

  151. give salvation, to give you a ticket to heaven. The

  152. answer is I accepted Jesus as your son. I accepted

  153. Jesus as my lord, as my savior. I accepted Jesus

  154. and what he did for me. I accepted his forgiveness,

  155. and I began to learn and trust him. That's the

  156. question that gets you into heaven. All the works on

  157. earth will do nothing in getting you into heaven. It's

  158. just that first question, What did you do with my son.

  159. The second question is not about salvation. It's about the

  160. stewardship of life. And that's the question, what did you

  161. do with what you were given? And that's the second

  162. great question, and that's going to determine not whether you

  163. get into heaven, but what you do after you get there.

  164. And Jesus told the number of stories in which he

  165. said that your rewards in heaven and your role in

  166. heaven and your responsibility in heaven will be based on

  167. what did you do with what you were given here?

  168. What did you do with the talent I gave you?

  169. What did you do with the freedom I gave you?

  170. What did you do with the health that I gave you?

  171. What did you do with the family that I gave you?

  172. What did you do with the relationships? What did you

  173. do with your network? What did you do with the

  174. education you were given? What did you do with your

  175. spiritual gift and your heart and your abilities? What did

  176. you do with the personality I gave you? And what

  177. did you do with the experiences I gave you? Did

  178. you just use them on yourself or did you just

  179. really learn to use it for my purposes? That is

  180. the question that this series is to help design, to

  181. help you prepare for.

  182. And God says this.

  183. He says, if you're faithful in what I gave you

  184. here on earth, and I didn't give you a whole

  185. lot here on earth.

  186. I didn't give you a lot of money. I didn't

  187. give you a lot of everything. You know.

  188. I gave you a little bit, okay, And I gave

  189. you talents. I didn't give you all the talent in

  190. the world, but I gave you a little bit. And

  191. I gave you some interest, and some abilities and some personality.

  192. If you're faithful in what little I gave you here

  193. on Earth, then I can trust you with greater roles,

  194. greater responsibilities, and greater rewards in heaven. But if you're

  195. not faithful in that little stuff, I can't trust you

  196. in heaven. This life is a test. God teaches it

  197. over and over and over in the Bible. Look at

  198. this one verse up on the screen. Jesus says this.

  199. From where he sits, God overlooks all of us on earth.

  200. This isn't Jesus's psalms.

  201. He has shaped each person in turn, and now he

  202. watches everything we do. Now not this, It says, God

  203. is watching everything you do. Do you remember that song,

  204. bet Middler. He's just saying, from a distance, God is

  205. watching us. Will you got it half right?

  206. Yes?

  207. God is watching, but he's not watching from a distance.

  208. He's right here.

  209. He's with you. If you're a believer, he's in you.

  210. He's up close and personal.

  211. He is intimately interested in every single detail of your life,

  212. even how many hairs wash out of your head and

  213. go into the shower drain each morning. God says, every

  214. hair in your head is numbered, and he knows when

  215. you've washed a few. Now, God is watching you here

  216. on earth. What is he watching to see what you

  217. do with your shape? And Jesus said this, look at

  218. the screen again. Whoever can be trusted with very little

  219. can also be trusted with much. And if you have

  220. not been trustworthy in handling worldly wealth, in other words,

  221. the stuff I give you here on the earth, who

  222. will trust you with true riches, true spiritual riches that

  223. go on forever and ever in eternity, He goes, If

  224. you haven't handled what I gave you on.

  225. Earth, what do you think I'm going to do with

  226. you in heaven?

  227. This is a test, and so it's very important that

  228. you know your shape. The fourth reason is because it

  229. shows God's glory. When you use your shape and you

  230. do what God made you to do, it not only

  231. feels good to you, it makes God smile.

  232. You know.

  233. Irenaeus was a great Christian leader in the first century.

  234. He gave a very famous quote and he said this,

  235. the glory of God is a human being fully alive.

  236. He said, the glory of God is a human being,

  237. fully alive. He says, you know what makes God smile

  238. when he looks down and he sees the guy using

  239. the talents that God gave and he goes, that's my boy.

  240. I made him to be a salesman. I made him

  241. to be an accountant. I made him to be a

  242. WWF wrestler. I made him you know, I wired him

  243. to be an athlete. I wired him to be an entrepreneur.

  244. And he's doing what I made him to do. That's

  245. my boy.

  246. And he looks down and he says, look at that woman.

  247. I made her to do this or this or this

  248. or this or this or this, and she's doing it.

  249. That makes me happy because I'm the creator and that's

  250. what I wired her.

  251. To do and to be, and she's doing it. And

  252. it makes me smile.

  253. You see, anytime something fulfills the purpose it was intended

  254. to fulfill, it brings glory to God. How does a

  255. pencil bring glory to God by being a pencil by

  256. doing what it's intended?

  257. Pencils are made for writing.

  258. And when a pencil is used for the act that

  259. was intended, then it brings glory to God. Now, if

  260. you use a pencil to get ear racks out of

  261. your ear, that is a misuse and abuse. That does

  262. not bring glory to God. Okay uh, how does a

  263. knife bring glory to God? A knife is to be used.

  264. Its intended purpose is to cut. Now, when you take

  265. a knife and you try to use it for something

  266. else like screwing in a screw as a screwdriver, then

  267. you are abusing that knife.

  268. What am I saying?

  269. Everything you have in your life is a total gift

  270. from God, everything, and it can be either used or

  271. it can be abused. Every gift of God can be

  272. a used or misused and abused. Sex When sex is

  273. used the way God intended between a husband and a wife,

  274. that brings glory to God. God goes, They're doing what

  275. I made him to do. But sex can also be

  276. misused and abused, and it dishonors God. Money can be

  277. used to bring honor to God when it's used wisely.

  278. When money is misused or abused, it brings dishonor to God.

  279. Time time can be used to honor God.

  280. Or can be misused and abused, and we abuse our

  281. time and waste it, and it doesn't bring honor to God.

  282. Everything in life can be used or abused. It's all

  283. a different God, and it's all good, but it's used

  284. or abused. And God says, I'm testing you to see

  285. what you're doing with what I gave you. And there

  286. are eternal consequences on everything you do, eternal consequences rewards, roles,

  287. and responsibilities. So he says, I want you to bring

  288. me glory. Now, what about people? When people fulfill their purpose,

  289. they bring glory to God.

  290. But here's the problem.

  291. As human beings, we don't think like God, and we

  292. think only really bright people and really beautiful people are

  293. important and they're worth a lot. But those of us

  294. who aren't bright and aren't important, we're not worth a lot.

  295. You're dead wrong. Where does it say that in the Bible?

  296. Does it say that God loves some people more than others,

  297. or that Gods a summer worth more than others.

  298. No, whether you're.

  299. Contributing in some giant way, or contributing in some little way,

  300. or you're sick and even can't even contribute.

  301. At all, you have the same value in God's ns.

  302. Thank you so much for joining us on Pastor Rick's
