  1. Hey, everyone, it's Daily Hope with Pastor Rick Warren. So

  2. we're continuing with this series called Daring Faith the Key

  3. to Miracles. And in this series you're learning how to

  4. have a bold, unshakable faith. And so far this series

  5. is giving all of us powerful tools to share our faith,

  6. a faith that gives you courage to impact the world

  7. around you. All right here it comes Pastor Rick with

  8. part two of a message called Daring to Imagine.

  9. So my imagination shapes my life, and imagination is essential

  10. to living by faith.

  11. Number three. Third thing I've learned.

  12. Great lives are built on great dreams. Great lives are

  13. built around great dreams.

  14. In my lifetime, I've.

  15. Had the opportunity to meet a lot of very great people.

  16. Some of them are famous, some of them are not famous.

  17. Because fame and greatness have nothing to do with each other.

  18. You can be famous and not be great, and you

  19. can be great and not be famous. But in great lives,

  20. they're built around great dreams. What I've discovered is that

  21. nobody is naturally a great person. You don't just pop

  22. out of your mommy being a great person. No, you

  23. become great by attaching your life to a great cause.

  24. A great purpose or a great dream. You need something

  25. bigger than yourself to draw you out of yourself, to

  26. make you grow better than yourself. And that's what makes

  27. you a great person. Until you have a great dream,

  28. you will never be a great woman. Until you have

  29. a great dream for your life, you will never be

  30. a great man if you don't have a great vision.

  31. If you don't have a great dream, it is impossible

  32. for you to be great. Greatness comes from what you

  33. attach yourself to. You need something bigger than yourself that

  34. pulls you out of your self centeredness that makes you great.

  35. Now during during faith, I want to help you unlock

  36. your imagination and I want to help you become a

  37. mo or great person. And I want you to dream

  38. and to visualize them, to think about how God wants

  39. to use your career, how God wants to use your future,

  40. your finances, your family, your giving, your ministry, your career.

  41. And my prayer for you is actually this next verse

  42. on your outlines Pesians chapter one. As your pastor, I'm

  43. praying this, may God enlighten the eyes of your mind

  44. so that you can see the hope that His calling

  45. holds for you. I notice this, may God enlighten the

  46. eyes of your mind. What's he talking about there, the

  47. eyes of your mind. He's not talking about your physical eyes.

  48. He's talking about your imagination. He's saying, I pray that

  49. your imagination will come alive and in faith, you will

  50. be able to see God's dream for your life. God's

  51. vision for your life, God's purpose and plan for your life,

  52. God's calling on your life. God has a calling for you.

  53. Most people miss their calling in life. Why because they're

  54. following their dream instead of God's dream. I'm not interested

  55. in you following your dream. I'm interested in you in

  56. following God's dream. I could make up a dream for

  57. my life. I could say, you know, I dream of

  58. being a rock star, and it would be a waste

  59. of my life because God didn't wire me to be

  60. a rock star. God said, I want you to give you.

  61. I want to give you my dream for your life,

  62. and that's your calling. And he says, when you understand

  63. what I've made you for, what I've built you for,

  64. what I have a vision for your life, then you're

  65. going to have hope.

  66. You will know the hope that is calling holds for you.

  67. If you want significance in your life, if you want

  68. satisfaction in your life, if you want fulfillment in your life,

  69. here's what you gotta do. You got to stop following

  70. your dream for your life, and you've got to start

  71. following God's dream for your life. Because God's dream, when

  72. you fulfill it, you go, this is it. This is

  73. what I was made to be.

  74. It fits. I know my niche, I know why I'm alive. Now.

  75. If you can't imagine, you're calling. If you can't dream

  76. God's dream, you're not really living. You're just existing, and

  77. you're just going through life. And without a dream, you're dying.

  78. The Bible says in Proverbs twenty eight eighteen, where there

  79. is no vision, what does it say the people perish?

  80. Circle that the people perish? I tell pastors when a

  81. church has no dream, where there's no vision in a church,

  82. the people go to another parish. Now, as I said,

  83. I want you to discover God's dream. And one of

  84. the things that I told you that during daring faith.

  85. I'm going to push you. I'm going to stretch you.

  86. I'm going to challenge you to discover God's dream for

  87. your life.

  88. And that leads me to number four. The fourth thing

  89. I've learned, and it's this.

  90. God's dream for my life is bigger than my dream.

  91. God's dream for my life is bigger than my dream.

  92. It's exponentially bigger. It's far larger. It's eternally significant.

  93. There are a lot of dreams.

  94. You could have big dreams and they wouldn't be significant.

  95. You could dream of being a millionaire by a certain age.

  96. Your dream of being a billionaire.

  97. For what purpose?

  98. Just do you think God puts you on this planet

  99. to live for yourself? Of course not, of course not.

  100. God's dream is for your life is bigger than your dream.

  101. Let me show you what the Bible says the Phesians three.

  102. God can do anything, you know, far more than you

  103. could ever imagine, or guess or request in your wildest dream. Notice,

  104. far more than you could ever imagine. God can do

  105. that in your life, or guess or request in your

  106. wildest dream.

  107. Now let me stop there.

  108. I don't know about you, but I'm a pretty big dreamer.

  109. I've never been accused of small dreaming. I've never been

  110. accused of being a tiny thinker. I have big visions

  111. in life, and yet God says, rick, think of the

  112. greatest thing I could do in your life. Think of

  113. the greatest way I could bless your life. Dream the

  114. biggest dream, the greatest vision, and I can top that.

  115. You have no idea what God wants to do in

  116. your life. You are living such a small fraction of

  117. what you're capable of. You were doing with your life,

  118. such a small portion of what God wants to do

  119. in your life. God's dream for your life is enormous.

  120. It's big. He says, I can do more than you

  121. can imagine or guests or requestion your wildest dream. The

  122. Bible says He does it not by pushing us around,

  123. but by working within us his spirit deeply and gently

  124. within us. And by the way, the next verse after

  125. that says, so glory to God in the Church, glory

  126. to God in Jesus, Glory to God in all generations,

  127. and glory to God.

  128. Forever and ever.

  129. We just sang that. That's this verse. We just sang

  130. this glory to God forever. Now, I want you to

  131. write this down in your outline. God wants me to

  132. dream big.

  133. Write that down.

  134. God wants me to dream big. He wants me to

  135. use the imagination that He gave me. Because dreaming big

  136. honors God. It shows faith, It shows trust. Now you

  137. should base your dream not on what you think you

  138. could do, but you should base your dream on what

  139. you think God could do. I remember many years ago

  140. when we bought the Lake Forest property and the word

  141. got out in Orange County that a church was going

  142. to go buy one hundred and twenty acres. Let's put

  143. this a perspective, that's bigger than Disneyland. His property is

  144. bigger than Disneyland. And people said, what kind of church

  145. is this going to go buy one hundred and twenty

  146. acres of Orange County property? Who do those people think

  147. they are? And when I heard that, I said, that's

  148. the wrong question. The question is not who do we

  149. think we are?

  150. It's who do we.

  151. Think God is. That's the real issue. I write this down.

  152. Let the size of my God determine the size of

  153. my goal. I must let the size of my God,

  154. not the size of my gifts, but the size of

  155. my God determine the size of my goal. God's dream

  156. for my life is bigger than my dream. Number five,

  157. The fifth thing I've learned about dreaming and vision and

  158. imagination is this, Doubt is the enemy of imagination. Doubt

  159. is the enemy of imagination. Now, doubt and fear neutralize

  160. what God wants to do in your life.

  161. You see, it takes courage to imagine. Why.

  162. You know why most people don't imagine because they're afraid

  163. of failure. When you were a kid, you had a

  164. great imagination. Children have a massive amount of imagination. But

  165. the older you get, the more your imagination grows rusty.

  166. You stop imagining what things could be, and you just

  167. start living the way they are, and you get stuck

  168. in the status quo, which is Latin for the mess

  169. we're in, and you don't imagine what they could be.

  170. You just imagine or you just think about what it is,

  171. and you stop using that imagination muscle in your life.

  172. Doubt is the enemy of imagination, and that's why it

  173. takes courage. And by the way, what is courage. Courage

  174. is doing the thing you fear the most. If you're

  175. not afraid, you don't need courage. You don't need courage.

  176. Courage only happens when you're scared to death. Courage is

  177. when you're scared to death. He said, I'm going to

  178. do it anyway. In the history of Saddleback Church, every

  179. great thing that we did, I was scared to death

  180. to do scared to death? Dude, I just said, we're

  181. going to do it anyway. Why because I'm not going

  182. to about to let fear dominate my life. So I

  183. do it, moving ahead, trembling, moving ahead in fear, and

  184. I just do it anyway and God shows up. God

  185. will show up in your life. Courage is when you

  186. do the thing while you're afraid. You do the right thing.

  187. He said, should I wait till all the fear is gone.

  188. It's never gonna go away. You just do it while

  189. you're afraid, and then it goes away. Doubt is the

  190. enemy of imagination. You have to move against your fears,

  191. and sometimes you have to ignore all the insecures you're feeling.

  192. You say, I'm gonna do it. I'm just gonna go

  193. for it.

  194. I'm gonna do it even though I'm scared to death

  195. and I'm insecure and i might fail, and blah blah

  196. blah blah blah. James, Chapter one. If you need wisdom,

  197. you want to know God's dream vision for your life.

  198. If you need wisdom, just ask God for it because

  199. he's generous and he enjoys giving it to everyone. But

  200. when you ask You must believe and not doubt. For

  201. a doubtful mind is as unsettled as a wave of

  202. the sea that's driven back and forth and tossed about

  203. by the wind. Such doubters cannot decide anything that they do.

  204. So they should not imagine there's that word. They should

  205. not imagine receiving anything from the Lord. You gotta believe,

  206. and you've gotta banish doubt. You know what you need

  207. to do. You need to doubt your doubts and believe

  208. your beliefs. The problem we have today is we do

  209. the exact opposite. We believe our doubts and we doubt

  210. our beliefs. No doubts are meant to be doubted. Beliefs

  211. are meant to be believed. So you believe your beliefs

  212. and your doubt your doubts. Your imagination in your life

  213. is either gonna be governed by fear or it's gonna

  214. be governed by faith.

  215. And that's your choice. Now.

  216. If you let your imagination be governed by fear, you're

  217. gonna go around freaked out, stressed out, worried all the time,

  218. and you're gonna worry about what other people think, and

  219. you're gonna worry about are you gonna have enough?

  220. And you're gonna worry about this and this and that.

  221. And when you allow fear to control your imagination, you

  222. live a miserable life. And instead, if you say, I'm

  223. not gonna allow fear to dominate me, I'm gonna allow

  224. faith to dominate me, and I'm gonna trust in God.

  225. All things are possible with God. Then your imagination talks

  226. about what could happen, the good things that might happen,

  227. and your imagination moves you ahead.

  228. Doubt will destroy you.

  229. Now, there's a great story in the Bible about a

  230. man who had a son who was sick, and he

  231. comes to Jesus, and we pick up the story in

  232. Mark chapter nine, and the man says to Jesus, please

  233. heal my son if you can. And Jesus replied, what

  234. do you mean if I can? Anything is possible if

  235. a person believes. The father replied, I do believe, but

  236. help me not to doubt.

  237. I love this.

  238. Passage because I love the authenticity. I love the honesty

  239. of this guy. He goes, I believe. I just got

  240. some doubts. And one of the passages in translations, he says, Lord,

  241. I do believe, help me with my unbelief. And you

  242. know what Jesus's response was to this guy when he said,

  243. I mean, if all things are possible if you believe,

  244. and the guy says, well, I do believe, help me

  245. with my doubts.

  246. You know what Jesus said.

  247. He does good enough, and he heals the guy right

  248. there on the spot. On the spot. You know, I

  249. wish I had learned a long time ago. Wish somebody

  250. told me that I don't have to have all my

  251. doubts resolved and all my questions answered in order to

  252. follow Jesus Christ and enjoy all the benefits of it.

  253. I've been walking with Jesus Christ now for almost well

  254. over fifty years. I still have questions. I got a

  255. list of them. I still have doubts.

  256. When I get to have it, I'm going to be

  257. You can get in line behind me. I've got all my.

  258. Questions to ask Jesus. Jesus, why did you do this?

  259. Why did you do that? I doubted this, I doubted this.

  260. I didn't think this was a good thing. He did

  261. here and on and on, and I'm just going to

  262. go through my laundry list of questions and doubts. Why

  263. because I believe I just have some doubts. Now, if

  264. I had thought that I had to answer all my

  265. doubts and all my questions, I still wouldn't even be

  266. a Christian. What I learned listen very closely is I

  267. don't have to understand something for me to benefit from it.

  268. I don't have to have it all figured out for

  269. me to benefit from it.

  270. For instance, I don't understand how internal combustion works. It

  271. doesn't stop me from driving a car. I don't understand

  272. the chemistry of digestion. It doesn't stop me from eating steak.

  273. I don't understand how there are literally colored pictures flying

  274. through the air right now and going through my body

  275. and yours, but it doesn't stop me from turning on

  276. a TV and watching them.

  277. How in the world does that happen? I don't know.

  278. How can I pick out my phone and talk to

  279. somebody on the.

  280. Other side of the world. I don't know all of it.

  281. I can't explain that to you, But I don't have

  282. to explain it to enjoy it.

  283. Does that make sense?

  284. And I don't have to have all my doubts answered,

  285. all my questions resolve in order to live by faith. Lord,

  286. I believe, help me with my doubts. God says, that's

  287. good enough. And so doubt will destroy you if you

  288. let it keep you from imagining and being all that

  289. God wants you to be. So this guy comes to

  290. Jesus and he says, Lord, I want to believe, help

  291. me with my doubts. Have you ever cried out to

  292. God that way? Have you ever cried out to God

  293. and said, Lord, I.

  294. Want to believe, help me with my doubts. You need

  295. to do that this morning if you haven't now.

  296. One of the things that happens because of doubt and

  297. because of fear and because of worry is vision begins

  298. to dissipate in your life. You get a dream, but

  299. you leak and your dream dissipates. A lot of people

  300. start off in life with a great dream, a great goal,

  301. a great vision, a great objective, a great cause and

  302. a purpose to live the life for. But over time

  303. it begins to dissipate and drain out and.

  304. Leak out of their life. Just much like you buy a.

  305. Balloon with healing minute, you put it up in your house,

  306. and three days later nobody's actually poked it.

  307. It didn't all leak out at once.

  308. It just started to leak out a little bit at

  309. a time, and pretty soon it's droopy. And some of

  310. you have a flat tire emotionally, and you got a

  311. flat tire mentally because you don't. You're not dreaming anymore,

  312. You're not believing anymore. And so what you have to

  313. do is you have to re energize the dream periodically.

  314. You have to refuel the dream or you run out

  315. of gas.

  316. What a great message today from Pastor Rick. There's something

  317. I always can use in my own life after listening

  318. to this show. All right, would you like to step

  319. out of a life of ordinary existence and into a

  320. life of extraordinary faith? Then please order the Daring Faith

  321. DVD study kit by Pastor Rick Warren. Here's Rick to

  322. tell you more.

  323. How would you like to have a bold, unshakable faith

  324. that gives you the courage to make the changes you've

  325. always wanted to see in your life, your work, your family,

  326. and in the world. That's not a dream. That's exactly

  327. what God wants to do in your life. He wants

  328. you to learn to live by daring faith. The Bible says,

  329. according to your faith, it will be done under you.

  330. Now to help you develop that kind of faith, I

  331. put together a Daring Faith Study Kit, and it includes

  332. a DVD and it includes a workbook. Now there's six

  335. how to expect the best from God, how to stretch

  336. your imagination in order to see what God wants to

  338. have the courage to take the initiative with your faith,

  339. how to face your fears with bold faith, and how

  340. to believe and what to do while you're waiting on God.

  341. You cannot afford to miss this series. It was one

  342. of the most important series I've ever done at Saddleback Church.

  343. And the Bible tells us in Ephesians three twelve, because

  344. of our faith in Him, we dare to have boldness

  345. and courage and confidence in coming to God with freedom

  346. and without fear. I want you to have that boldness,

  347. that courage, and that confidence when you come to God

  348. in prayer. I want you to come to Him without

  349. fear and come to Him in freedom. God will use
