  11. a sixth session video based study by Rick Warren, doctor

  12. Daniel Aman and doctor Mark Hyman. This out of the

  13. box approach to a healthy lifestyle is based on five

  14. essentials faith, food, fitness, focus and friends. You can find

  15. out more right now by going to Pastorick dot com

  16. while you listen to today's Manage, or you can just

  18. thousand and four. That's Pastorick dot com, or the word

  19. daily to eight hundred six hundred five thousand and four.

  20. Right now, here's Pastor Rick with part three of a

  21. message called winning with the hand your dealt.

  22. The freedom of choice is your greatest blessing, it is

  23. also your greatest curse, because we make stupid choices all

  24. the time. We make self defeating choices, We make harmful

  25. choices that harm ourselves, our bodies, our circumstances, and everybody

  26. around us, and so it becomes a negative thing in

  27. our lives. It's a blessing, but it's also a curse.

  28. But here's the good news about this card, this one

  29. right here. God says it's a wild card. It's the

  30. wild card. And this card can change the suit and

  31. the number of any of the other cards you're dealt.

  32. This is the wild card.

  33. Your choices can determine these other cards. Now, I didn't

  34. get to choose my chemistry, but I can choose what

  35. I do with my body and how I make the

  36. most of what I've got. That's my choice, and I

  37. can choose to do the best I can with what

  38. I've got. I didn't choose all of my relationships, but

  39. I can choose how I respond to them, and I

  40. can choose new relationships, and I can choose to learn

  41. relational skills, and I can choose a lot of things

  42. that will change my connections. I don't choose my circumstances,

  43. but I certainly can choose how I respond to them.

  44. I am response able. That means I'm responsible. I'm able

  45. to respond. God has given us responsibility, which means we

  46. have the ability to respond. And I don't control everything

  47. that happens to me, but I control everything that happens

  48. in me.

  49. By what I choose to do in that response.

  50. Even on my consciousness, I didn't control what people said

  51. to me, those old tapes that went in my mind

  52. and I started believing them, believing them. But I can

  53. choose to stop believing them, and I can choose to

  54. think differently, and I can choose a different consciousness, and

  55. I can control my thoughts, and I can.

  56. Change the rudder of my.

  57. Boat by simply changing the way that I think. This

  58. is the good news, and if you use it, you

  59. can change the number and the suit of every card.

  60. And your life and your destiny and eternity is determined

  61. by this card. Ultimately, your identity is based on your choices,

  62. and it's the wild card that.

  63. Can change everything else.

  64. You're listening to pastor Rick's Daily Hope. Rick will be

  65. back in just a moment with the rest of today's

  66. lesson you can sign up for Pastor Rick's free email

  67. devotional at pastorick dot com. That's pastorick dot com.

  68. The truth is most of us don't pay much attention

  69. to our health until something goes wrong. We put on

  70. a couple of pounds every year and think no big deal, right,

  71. But a few pounds over five or ten years really

  72. adds up and it can even lead to major illnesses

  73. like diabetes and heart disease. That's why Pastor Rick work

  74. together with medical and fitness experts to create the Daniel

  75. Plan Study. The sixth session DVD and workbook study kit

  76. from Rick Warren, doctor Daniel Aman, and doctor Mark Hyman

  77. is an out of the box approach to a healthy

  78. lifestyle based on five essentials faith, food, fitness, focus and friends.

  79. The Daniel Plan Study gives individuals in small groups the

  80. encouragement and accountability he needed to succeed. If you've been

  81. watching the scale go up lately, or your health is

  82. in trouble because of your weight, it's not too late.

  83. Join the thousands of people who've lost weight, improve their

  84. health and improved their relationships through the Daniel Plan. We'll

  85. send you a copy of the Daniel Plan DVD. Steady

  87. Daily Hope to help share the hope of Jesus with

  88. people around the world. Just go to Pastor Rick dot

  89. com to get your copy, or you can call eight

  90. hundred six hundred five zero zero four. That's Pastor Rick

  91. dot com. Or call eight hundred six hundred five zero

  92. zero four and thank you so much for your support.

  93. Once again, here's Rick.

  94. Now, there are five.

  95. Winning choices that you can make with the hand you've

  96. been dealt, and each of them has to do with

  97. each of these cards. With this first card, my chemistry,

  98. my biology, my chromosomes, my makeup, my physical being number

  99. one first choice, I can choose to get healthier. I

  100. don't care what handicap you have in your life. You

  101. can be healthier than you are right now. I can

  102. choose to get healthier. There are things that I can

  103. do that will increase my energy. There are things that

  104. I can do that will lower my stress. There are

  105. things that I can do that will cause me to

  106. have more power, more health in my life. I can

  107. eat better, get more sleep, reduce the stress. They're all

  108. kinds of things that I can do, and that's totally

  109. in my control. And instead of bemoaning the fact that

  110. you don't have an Olympic body, the fact is, instead

  111. of bemoaning what you don't have, you need to do

  112. a better job of making the most of what you've got.

  113. And the fact is you're not. You're not making the

  114. most of the body you've been given. So I'm one

  115. nineteen Verse thirty seventy three says this, You made my body.

  116. Lord.

  117. Now give me sinse to heed your laws. Give me

  118. sense to heed your laws. There are certain things you

  119. can learn if you have chronic pain in your life.

  120. You need to learn principles of pain management. There are

  121. things we know about pain today that we didn't even

  122. know ten years ago. You might write this down, The

  123. pain is in my brain. Write that down. The pain

  124. is in my brain. Yeah, it starts in your rear

  125. end or wherever you're back, your knee, whatever. But that's

  126. sending signals to a certain place called your brain, and

  127. pain is processed by the brain. You can change your

  128. pain level by changing your brain. That's controllable, that is

  129. flat out controllable, and so improving the controllables reduces the

  130. impact of the uncontrollables in my life.

  131. Does that make sense?

  132. The things in your life you can't change about your body,

  133. You're never going to be one inch taller, you're never

  134. going to be as handsome as me.

  135. But there are a lot of things you can't change.

  136. But you can change the controllables, and you could have

  137. more energy than you've got, and you could be in

  138. better shape, and you could probably extend your life some

  139. simply by eating right, doing right, being right, things like that.

  140. So that's in your control. Maybe you need to go

  141. get a checkup, Maybe you need to go get some

  142. blood work, Maybe you need to go see a dentist.

  143. Maybe you need to get a supplement or get on

  144. some kind of hormone replacement or whatever. I don't know,

  145. but the fact is there are some steps you can

  146. do medicine, exercise, controllable things. Daniel plan And so you

  147. start with the physical. The first card, What do I

  148. need to do physically? Shakespeare said, it's impossible to be

  149. a philosopher with a toothache, and it's true, and it's

  150. hard to feel close to God when you're in pain.

  151. So deal with the pain. Number two. Second choice has

  152. to do with my connections. And the choice I make

  153. here is I can choose to deepen relationships. That's an

  154. intentional choice to make my relationships better.

  155. They can be better than they are right now.

  156. I can choose to deepen my relationships. I can learn

  157. some communication skills. I can build some new healthy relationships

  158. and replace some bad, unhealthy relationships. I can reach out,

  159. I can work on my relationships. I can risk connecting.

  160. And I don't say that word risk arbitrarily, because any

  161. connection you make is going to be a risk. If

  162. you're going to build some new, healthy relationships, you're going

  163. to have to risk some connecting. Would you write this down?

  164. The fear of rejection prevents connection. The fear of rejection

  165. prevents connection. And really the reason why you feel disconnected

  166. is your fear of being rejected, your fear of being disapproved,

  167. your fear of being hurt, your fear of others. Let's

  168. go back to this issue of marriage. A lot of

  169. you have said, you know, I really, in my heart

  170. of hearts, i'd like to be married or I'd like

  171. to be remarried, but I'm not. And you're telling yourself

  172. no one would ever want.

  173. To marry me.

  174. Are you sure that's a feeling, not a fact. I

  175. could ever get remarried at my age. Are you sure

  176. that's a feeling not a fact. We had a wedding

  177. the other day with a guy who's nearly one hundred

  178. years old. I'm too old again. Are you sure that's

  179. a feeling not a fact? And as long as you believe,

  180. of course that's going to be true. But you're basing

  181. it on feelings, not fact. Nobody would ever want to

  182. marry me the way I look at my age. I

  183. need to invite you to some of the odd weddings

  184. I do, because you're not nearly as odd as some

  185. of the.

  186. Weddings I have done.

  187. You say, but I'm just not good at social interaction.

  188. I don't like that dating stuff. It's so icky. I'm

  189. just not good at that, And that's the fear of rejection.

  190. Would you write this down? Awkward won't kill me. Feeling

  191. awkward won't kill me. Of course, it's awkward in developing

  192. a new Really, I've never met anybody who didn't feel

  193. awkward in developing a new Really, welcome to the human race.

  194. But you move against that awkwardness and you find out

  195. feeling awkward won't kill me.

  196. How do I get rid of fear? How do I

  197. get rid.

  198. Of that fear first? John four eighteen. Look here on

  199. the screen. There is no fear in love. On your

  200. outline circle that no fear. There is no fear, There

  201. is no fear. There is no fear in love. Perfect

  202. love casts out all fear. Now why it does love

  203. take away fear? Because love takes the focus off me

  204. and puts it on somebody else. It's not about me,

  205. my needs, my help, my heart, my hurt. It's about you.

  206. Love has no fear because it's not about me. You see,

  207. this is why you get up tight in social settings.

  208. You go to a party and you walk in, and

  209. the first thing you think.

  210. Is, how do I look to everybody else?

  211. What is everybody else thinking about me? Do I have

  212. spinach in my teeth or my legs crossed just appropriately,

  213. there's any toilet paper dangling from back behind me?

  214. How do I look? What does everybody think of me?

  215. I'll tell you they're not thinking about you. No one

  216. in that party is thinking about you. You know why,

  217. because they're all thinking how do I look to everybody else?

  218. They're not even thinking about you.

  219. This is the fallacy of single adult parties. We go

  220. in thinking everybody's I've got to worry about everyone. How

  221. everybody's gonna look at me? Nobody's looking at you. They're

  222. all uptight about themselves.

  223. Now.

  224. Self centeredness walks into the room saying, how do I

  225. look at everybody else? Love walks into room, going who

  226. here needs my help? Who needs a word of encouragement?

  227. Who needs a pat on the back? Who could use

  228. a little affirmation? Who at this party looked like they're

  229. a little on the outside and uncomfortable, and I could

  230. put them at ease?

  231. Love.

  232. Humility is not thinking of yourself less. I'm no good,

  233. I'm nothing, I'm junk, I'm no Humility is thinking of

  234. yourself less. Humility isn't thinking of yourself as not good.

  235. Humility is just not thinking about yourself. You're so focused

  236. on thinking about other people, you're not thinking about yourself.

  237. If I walked out here week after week and I

  238. worried about how I looked to you and to the

  239. thousands of people who have come to saddle Back I

  240. walk it, I'd be scared to death. But if I

  241. come out there and I going, Lord, what do these

  242. people need? And I'm thinking about you, your needs, your hurts,

  243. your interests. I'm not thinking about me. Perfect love casts

  244. out all fear. The antidote to your social phobia is

  245. to get your eyes off you, to stop being so

  246. self centered, and to think about somebody else, and to

  247. think about their needs, their hurts, their interests, and how

  248. you could help them.

  249. Perfect love cast out all fear.

  250. I'm not an authority on a lot of things, but

  251. i am an authority on fear because I've dealt with

  252. it my entire life. And fear is fea r false evidence,

  253. appearing real. It's not real. So how do you get

  254. rid of the fear in your life? The fear of

  255. making that connection, of making a commitment, the fear of

  256. getting to know a stranger, the fear of getting in

  257. a small group, all of these things.

  258. How do I get rid of that?

  259. You can't talk yourself out of it because fear isn't logical,

  260. it isn't rational, and so you can rationalize it all

  261. you want, but it isn't gonna go away. There's only

  262. one way to get rid of fear. Do the thing

  263. you fear the most. Move against your fear. Fear does

  264. not go away from logic, Fear goes away from action,

  265. and you walk up to the Red Sea and the

  266. and the Egyptians are behind you, and you go, God,

  267. I'm I'm gonna I'm in a no place.

  268. I'm gonna cull the sack. I'm himmed in And you

  269. step in and water parts.

  270. And you go to the Jordan River and the water

  271. is there, and you got to go across the Jordan

  272. and you step in and the water backs up. You

  273. move and the fear vanishes. Fear is always worse than

  274. the reality. Why because fear torments you twenty four hours

  275. a day and the reality that party might even only

  276. last an hour. And it's the fear is always worse

  277. than the reality. And so you have to say, Okay,

  278. what am I gonna do? I'm gonna let look at

  279. this next verse First Corinthians fourteen to one. Let love

  280. be your highest goal, that ought to be the goal

  281. for the rest of your life. It's not about accomplishments.

  282. It's not about achievement, it's not about fame. It's about love.

  283. Love is going to be my high school life is

  284. all about learning how to love. Sib or Rick, I

  285. loved and I got burned so bad. I gave my

  286. heart on a platter and they took it and stomped

  287. on it and tore it up into a grinder and

  288. made hamburger out of it. And I am still hurting

  289. from that. And and you think that excuses you to

  290. not love again. Show me that in the Bible where

  291. it says you get hurt by love, that allows you

  292. to no longer love anybody. Nonsense, nonsense, You are not

  293. allowed to not love. Love means risking connections, It means

  294. stepping out. So what happens when I really tried to

  295. love this person and it was blocked?

  296. What do you do with a block love? You always

  297. redirect it.

  298. If you try to love somebody and they reject your love.

  299. Let me tell you, friends, there are billions of people

  300. in this world who are dying for your love, and

  301. they're all around you. And when your love is blocked

  302. and you can't love in that direction, then you love

  303. in this direction.

  304. And there are plenty of people like.

  305. The elderly who need your love, like orphans who need

  306. your love, like little girls and little boys growing up

  307. without daddies who need your love. There's people all around you.

  308. There's people on your row who are starving for your love.

  309. Right now, you do not get to say I'm not

  310. going to love because I got hurt once. You ought

  311. to pray ifhes in three seventeen, I pray that Christ

  312. will live in your hearts by faith, and that your

  313. life will be strong in love. Circle that your life

  314. will be strong in love and be built on love.

  315. So circle that strong in love, built on love. You

  316. ought to pray that every morning. Get up in the

  317. morning and say, God today, here's what Jesus Christ. I

  318. want you to fill my heart by faith and Jesus Christ.

  319. Today.

  320. I want to be strong in love and I want

  321. to be.

  322. Built on love.

  323. By the way, where do you learn connection techniques? The

  324. church was designed to be the laboratory for love. Now

  325. you can't love a The only way you can learn

  326. love in this church get in a small group.

  327. That's why we.

  328. Insist everybody, everybody, everybody be in a small group. The

  329. very reason you're afraid to get in a small group

  330. is the very reason you need it.

  336. the truth is that most of us don't pay much

  337. attention to our health until something goes wrong.

  338. We put on a.

  339. Couple of pounds every year and think no big deal, right,

  340. But a few pounds over five or ten years can

  341. really add up. That's why Pastor Rick Warren has put

  342. together the Daniel Plan DVD Study Kit. This sixth session

  343. video based study by Rick Warren, doctor Daniel Ahman and

  344. doctor Martin Kayman is an out of the box approach

  346. focus and friends. The Daniel Planned Studykit gives individuals the

  359. you so much for your support.

  360. Here's Pastor Rick with a closing thought.

  361. God has five purposes for your life. He wants you

  362. to know and love Him. That's called worship. He wants

  363. you to belong to his family that's called fellowship. He

  364. wants you to grow in character to be more like Christ.

  365. That's called discipleship. And he wants you to learn to

  366. serve using your gifts and talents, serve God by serving others.

  367. That's called your ministry. Finally, he wants you to share

  368. the good news and your life message with other people

  369. around the world. That's called your mission. I'd like to

  370. close today to talk to you for just a second

  371. about your personal mission. Did you know that the Bible

  372. says every time somebody accepts the Lord, they throw a

  373. party in heaven. Did you know that it's right there

  374. in Luke fifteen, verse seven, where the Bible says there's

  375. more joy in heaven over one sinner who changes his

  376. heart and life than over ninety nine who don't need

  377. to turn to Christ, who are already there. The day

  378. that you accepted Jesus Christ, there was a party in

  379. heaven for you. And by the way, the day that

  380. you help somebody else come to know the Lord, there's

  381. going to be a party in heaven. But there's also

  382. going to be a party in your heart. I want

  383. to encourage you today to look outward, to look around

  384. you and see the people who need to hear about

  385. the love of God, about the message of Christ, about

  386. the purpose of life, about the daily hope that we

  387. have in our hearts. The Bible says, always be ready

  388. to share the hope that is within you. Could I

  389. pray for you, and as we bow in prayer, you

  390. might want to pray this prayer with me. Say, Father,

  391. I want the joy that you've given me to be

  392. shared with other people. And a lot of times I'm

  393. afraid or hesitant to talk about you to others. Would

  394. you give me so much love for other people that

  395. love overcomes my fears and gives me the right words

  396. to say as I share the hope that's in me,

  397. Allow me to help others find you, to find real hope,

  398. to find joy through knowing you. Thank you Lord so

  399. much for trusting me to help bring others to you.

  400. I want to accept my mission, and I want to

  401. use it for your glory and in the power of

  402. your spirit. Thank you, Jesus, put somebody in my life

  403. today that I can tell about you. In your name,

  404. I pray Amen.

  405. Be sure to join us again next time as we

  406. look into God's word for our daily hope. This program

  407. is sponsored by Pastor Rick's Daily Hope and your generous

  408. financial support.
