  3. called Strategies for Stressful Times. In these lessons, Rick SHARE's

  4. biblical wisdom for navigating difficult and stressful times so that

  5. you can experience God's peace and thrive in any situation. Now,

  6. in just a little while, we're going to tell you

  7. about an amazing opportunity to partner with Daily Hope to

  8. share the Word of God with people around the world.

  9. You can find out more by going to Pastorick dot

  10. com while you listen to the message, or by texting

  11. the word Hope to eight hundred six hundred, five thousand

  12. and four. Now here's Pastor Rick Warren with the final

  13. part of a message called finding the Strength to keep

  14. going when I'm emotionally worn out.

  15. Job had every reason to be angry and to be

  16. bitter because nothing made sense. Here he is serving God,

  17. doing the right things. He was a just man, the

  18. Bible said, but nothing made sense. He literally lost everything

  19. in his life, and one day, what did Job do?

  20. He did this third point when he was in a

  21. situation where he was going, I don't know if I've

  22. got strength to go on. What he did is he

  23. gratefully worshiped God when everything around him did not make sense. Obviously,

  24. it's easy to worship God when everything's going your way,

  25. but while how do you worship God when everything's not

  26. going your way? Job Chapter one, verses twenty to twenty two.

  27. It says this that in grief, Job tore his robe

  28. and shaved his head. Then he fell to the ground

  29. and he worshiped God. Is that a strange thing to

  30. do in the middle of having lost everything in your life?

  31. He fell to the ground and worshiped God. And here's

  32. what he said. Here's Job's perspective. I was born with nothing,

  33. and I'm going to die with nothing. The Lord gave

  34. and now the Lord is taken away. May the name

  35. of the Lord be praised. That's gratitude in spite of

  36. everything the Bible says that had happened. This is the

  37. next verse. In spite of everything that had happened, Job

  38. did not sin by blaming God. Now, if you're taking

  39. notes right now on your outline, I want you to

  40. circle the phrase praised in spite of everything. Circle that

  41. phrase he praised in spite of everything. Do you do that,

  42. or do you only thank God when things are going

  43. good in your life? You see throughout this book, Job

  44. expresses trust and praise and gratitude to God even when

  45. he has no idea why all these problems and tragedies

  46. are happening in his life, one right after another. And

  47. when Job could not find anything, any circumstance that he

  48. could be grateful for, he just couldn't fvite it. He'd

  49. lost it all. What does he do? He expresses gratitude

  50. for God's character. He expresses God for what he knew

  51. God was really like. Now that is a lesson we

  52. all need to learn when you're going through a time,

  53. and he goes, I can't find anything in my life

  54. to be thankful for. Well, I bet you could. Okay,

  55. I bet you could. But if you were not able

  56. to find anything you could be thankful for in your life,

  57. you could still be thankful for who God is. And

  58. Job shows us that in spite of how I feel,

  59. I can always be grateful. I've listed just three or

  60. four of the things he's grateful for in the book

  61. of Job. They're about fifteen. But Job says, I can

  62. always be grateful that God is loving and cares for me.

  63. Job ten twelve. God is loving and cares for me,

  64. and I know that even when things are going wrong

  65. in my life, God is a loving God and he

  66. cares for me. I can be grateful for that. Then

  67. Job twenty three fourteen, I can be grateful that God

  68. has a detailed plan for my future. I can't see it,

  69. but because I know God's good God, and he has

  70. a plan for my life, it's a good plan. He

  71. has a detailed plan for my life. In job thirty

  72. four thirteen, I can be grateful that God is in

  73. control of what I don't understand. That's been comforting to

  74. me so many times. God's in control of what I

  75. don't understand. And then in job twenty three ten, I

  76. can be grateful that God will reward me after I'm tested.

  77. After I'm tested, there will be a reward for all

  78. the problems that I'm going through right now. Now, let

  79. me just say this to you. I don't know what

  80. sapping your strength today, but I do know that one

  81. of the antidotes to what's sapping your strength is personal worship.

  82. That is one of the four antidotes to the things

  83. that drain your emotions. Personal worship King. David modeled this

  84. key also besides job. Psalm sixty three, verse two says this.

  85. David says, so, here I am in the place of worship,

  86. eyes open, drinking in your strength, drinking in your strength, Wow,

  87. in God's glory. Worship is a time to drink in

  88. God's strength. That's why worship is so essential to your life.

  89. If you stop worshiping, you're gonna run out of emotional energy.

  90. Here I am in the place of worship, eyes open,

  91. drinking in your strength. Strength comes from worshiping God. And

  92. Psal I'm sixty nine thirty two says this. It's on

  93. the screen. Those who worship God will be encouraged. Why

  94. because when I worship, I focus on God. And you

  95. know what, I've discovered. The bigger God gets in my view,

  96. the smaller all my problems did.

  132. great resource and have your gift doubled, So don't wait.

  133. Now back to more from God's Word with Pastor Rick Warren.

  134. The bigger God gets in my view, the smaller all

  135. my problems get. When God's did not. In my view,

  136. my problem seems so big. But when I compare Him

  137. to God, my problems shrink in size. I can't tell

  138. you how many times I've had a problem that I

  139. thought was overwhelming to me, and then I'd go to

  140. church service, at worship service, and I would worship with

  141. other believers, and all of a sudden, it just shrinks

  142. the problem. It's not as big because I see the

  143. greatness of God. All right, Now, let's just review. Four

  144. keys and four attitudes to the power of recharging your

  145. emotions so you can keep on and have the strength

  146. to finish well. First key to keep going, honestly tell

  147. God what I'm feeling. Don't hold it in, don't stuff it.

  148. Second key to keep going, humbly ask God for strength

  149. in humilities that God, I need you, I need your

  150. strength today, and you say it over and over. Third

  151. key to keeping on keeping on gratefully thank God for

  152. all that's good despite all that's bad. There's a lot

  153. of bad in the world, but if you look for it,

  154. there's plenty of good too. And now we come to

  155. the fourth and final key to having the strength to

  156. keep on keeping on when you feel like giving up.

  157. Number four, constantly keep God as my focus. Constantly keep

  158. God as my focus. I'm humbly asking and I'm gratefully continuing,

  159. and I'm honestly telling God how I feel. But now

  160. I'm constantly keeping God as my central focus. What does

  161. that mean? It means don't let yourself be distracted by

  162. less important things. All the stuff that the cable news

  163. and everybody else thinks is so important, It's not that important.

  164. Now this is a powerful tool for having the strength

  165. to keep going for the rest of your life, to

  166. finishing well. Hebrews Chapter twelve, Verse two says this we

  167. must focus on Jesus. This is the fourth key, the

  168. fourth secret. We must focus on Jesus, the source and

  169. goal of our faith. He Jesus saw the joy ahead

  170. of him, so he endured death on the cross and

  171. ignored the disgrace it brought him. Then he received the

  172. highest position in heaven. Now that versus chalk full of

  173. spiritual truth. But I just want to mention a couple

  174. of things. The reason that Jesus was able to keep

  175. going strong. Are you listening? The reason Jesus was able

  176. to keep going strong even through the pain and the

  177. shame of the cross was because what he focused on.

  178. Did you say, see that he wasn't focusing on the

  179. current pain, the current problems, the current stress, the current difficulties,

  180. the current criticisms. He wasn't focused on all that. Now

  181. he was focused on the future joy. He says. He

  182. looked to the joy that was set before him. He

  183. looks past the cross to the reward. He looks to

  184. the future glory. He has an eternal perspective. Now listen,

  185. if you only face life, your life with short term perspective,

  186. You're not going to keep going strong. I don't give

  187. you a snowball's chance in hell of finishing well if

  188. you have a small short term focus, because you'll give up,

  189. you'll quit. But if you want to be like Jesus,

  190. you look past the pain to the promise. You look

  191. past the cross to the joy in heaven. Let me

  192. just ask your pointed question right now, what do you

  193. think about the most these days? Think about that? Be honest.

  194. What do you think about most these days? Is it

  195. short term or long term? And what do you talk

  196. about most these days? The reason I'm asking this question

  197. is because whatever you think about the most, and whatever

  198. you talk about the most, that's your life focus. And

  199. if it's not Jesus, it's no wonder your draining. It's

  200. no wonder society is draining you and all the things.

  201. If you're focused on all the albums and you can't

  202. wait till the latest news, well no wonder. Tewod Corinthians,

  203. chapter four, verse sixteen to eighteen says this, this is

  204. why we never give up. Are you listening? This is

  205. the key, This is why we never give up Our

  206. spirits are being renewed every day, and our present troubles

  207. are small and won't last very long. Yet they produce

  208. in us for us an immeasurably great glory that's gonna

  209. last forever. The temporary problems are gonna produce everlasting glory

  210. and reward forever. So he says, we fix our eyes.

  211. That's focus not on what is seen, but on what

  212. is unseen. It's choosing what you're gonna look at, choosing

  213. what you're gonna focus on. For what is seen as temporary,

  214. but what is unseen is eternal. Now, let's go back

  215. on that verse, he says, first he said, you've got

  216. to look. Here's why we never give up. He said,

  217. we never give up because we're not focusing on the

  218. short term. We're focusing on the long term. We're gonna

  219. keep going. And he says, there's five ways in that

  220. passage that I just read, Five ways to stay strong emotionally.

  221. Are you listening? We never give up because number one,

  222. our spirits are being renewed each day. You say, how

  223. do I get my spirit renewed every day? Get in

  224. this book. Thy word is truth. Sanctify them through thy truth.

  225. The Bible says, this is food. Man shall not live

  226. by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds out

  227. of the mouth of God. You wouldn't think of fasting

  228. for a week, but some people they don't open their

  229. Bible for an entire week. If you don't eat the

  230. food this is soul food. The way you get your

  231. spirit renewed is to get in this word every day,

  232. his word, first word, his word, last word. Second reason,

  233. we don't give up because we know that all the

  234. troubles on earth are temporary. They don't last. You know what,

  235. even if I had a problem that lasted my entire life,

  236. and I have some problems in my life that have

  237. lasted my entire life. I was born with some brain

  238. disorders and things like that. But even if it lasts

  239. all my life, that's miniscule compared to the trillions and

  240. trillions of years we're going to have in heaven. So

  241. we know the problems on earth are temporary. They have

  242. a long term expected. Three, we know that God is

  243. using everything in our lives to build our character. All

  244. things work together for the good of those who love God.

  245. God is using even the bad stuff to build our character. Four.

  246. The Bible says in that passage, we know the reward's

  247. going to be great and it's going to last eternity.

  248. And number five, we're keeping our eyes on God. We're focused,

  249. we fix our attention. We're focused on God, not on

  250. the problems. So let me ask you, what are you

  251. focused on today? All the mess in the world. Stop

  252. looking at your problems, start looking at Jesus again. Now,

  253. I want to close with a scripture that's going to

  254. be my prayer for you all this next week. It's

  255. Colossians chapter one, verse eleven, because I want you to

  256. make it to the finish line. My job as your

  257. pastor is a spiritual coach to help you keep on,

  258. keeping on and to not get sidelined in this marathon

  259. of life, to not run off in the ditch, to

  260. not finish the race. Colossians one to eleven. Living Bible

  261. says this, and I'm praying this for you. We're praying

  262. that you will be filled with all his that's God's

  263. mighty glorious strength. I'm praying for God to fill you

  264. with his mighty glorious strength so you don't feel weak,

  265. so that you can keep going. This is what we're

  266. talking about. This weekend so that you can keep going.

  267. You need the strength to keep going. We're praying that

  268. God's mighty, glorious strength will fill you so that you

  269. can keep going no matter what happens, always full of

  270. the joy of the Lord. That's my prayer for you.

  271. You know why. It not only make you happier, but

  272. the world desperately needs you to be that kind of

  273. person full of joy in the Lord. You're able to

  274. keep going because you're filled with the mighty strength of

  275. God's Spirit in you, and that makes you joyful. Even

  276. in the most depressing times and in the most discouraging situations,

  277. it still makes you joyful. It's not false optimism. It's

  278. the joy that comes from a deep trust in Jesus.

  279. That's my prayer for you. I hope you'll put these

  280. than to practice this next week. Before we close, let

  281. me say a word to those of you who may

  282. not be sure that you've been saved by Jesus. The

  283. only way you're going to finish well in life is

  284. by letting Jesus give you his presence in your heart,

  285. his power in your life to enable you to fulfill

  286. his promise that he has for your soul and your

  287. whole life. You need to be saved. Notice the last

  288. verse on your outline two Timothy Chapter one, verse eightan nine,

  289. and I love the message translation says this. We can

  290. only keep on going. We can only keep on going

  291. after all by the power of God, the power of

  292. God who first saved us. Now, before you can have

  293. the power of God in your daily life, you've got

  294. to let God save you. He first saved and then

  295. he gives you the power for daily living. Now, if

  296. you're not sure whether you've been saved or not, it

  297. would be my honor right now to lead you in

  298. a prayer of salvation. If you're not sure, let's just

  299. settle this issue for once and for all your eternal destiny.

  300. All right, So let's all bow our heads together, and

  301. I'm going to pray a simple prayer, and I'd like

  302. to ask you to just follow me in it. And

  303. if you're sincere and you meet it in your heart,

  304. God's going to hear you and he will save you.

  305. The Bible says whoever calls on the name of the

  306. Lord will be saved. So let's bow our heads and

  307. just say something like this, Dear God, you know I'm

  308. tired and you know how many times I feel empty

  309. and I feel out of gas, and I don't feel

  310. like I've got what it takes to keep on going,

  311. and I feel like sometimes given up in different areas

  312. of my life. But I want your power in my

  313. life life, and more that than that, I want you

  314. in my life. Thank you for loving me, Just say that.

  315. Thank you for loving me, Thank you for sending Jesus

  316. to die for me. Help me to understand what that's

  317. all about. And as much as I know how, today

  318. I ask you, Jesus Christ, to put your spirit of

  319. love inside me, Come inside me and fill me with

  320. new energy, with new strength, the strength that comes from

  321. trusting in you. I can't do this on my own.

  322. I need your help. So as much as I know how,

  323. today I'm saying yes, God, Yes, I want you in

  324. my life. And I want to spend the rest of

  325. my life getting to know you as a friend and

  326. filling the purpose that you created me for. I humbly

  327. ask you to accept me into your family by your grace,

  328. and I pray this in Jesus' name. Amen. Hi, everybody,

  329. this is Rick and I hope you enjoyed today's broadcast.

  330. You know, if you just prayed that prayer for the

  331. very first time, or you just recommitted your life to

  332. Jesus again today. Would you let me know about it.

  333. There's something real about sharing your commitment. So write me

  334. Rick at Pastorick dot com and say, Rick, I prayed

  335. that prayer of commitment, I gave my life to Christ.

  336. And I'll send you some material that will help you

  337. on your journey with Jesus. And I'll also pray for you.

  338. God bless you.

  347. thousand dollars Giving Tuesday matching grant that means every dollar

  348. you give today will be matched up to twenty five

  349. thousand dollars. Here's Rick to tell you more.

  350. Hi, everybody, you may not realize this, but Today is

  351. National Giving Tuesday. You may have never even heard of

  354. Hope who try to reach people all around the world

  355. and do good for people. On this day, your gift

  356. will matter more than any other day of the year.

  357. So if you've never been a regular giver of Daily Hope,

  358. would you consider giving something even just today. Here's the

  359. reason why we have a generous supporter of Daily Hope

  360. who has said that they will match your Giving Tuesday

  361. gift today. There's a little urgency to this because if

  362. you give it tomorrow, it's not going to be on

  363. the matching. But today is Giving Tuesday, National Giving Tuesday. Now,

  364. as I've said many many times, I only want you

  365. to give if you feel led to give by God.

  366. If God tells you to give gift. If you don't,

  367. don't worry about it, and never give out a pressure.

  368. But giving out a pressure and giving out an urgency

  369. are two different things, and your gift will mean more

  370. today if you're able to do that. So can you

  371. take five minutes and go online to Pastorick dot com

  372. and make a gift knowing that on this particular day,

  373. everything you give will be doubled. It will be met

  374. by a matching gift. Thanks so much, Thanks so much

  376. much for your financial support. Thanks so much for the
