  1. Hello, and thanks for joining us here on Pastor Rick's

  2. Daily Hope, the audio broadcast ministry of Pastor Rick Warren. Today,

  3. Rick continues teaching a series called Connecting with God the

  4. Lord's Prayer. In these lessons, Rick shows you what it

  5. means to truly be spiritually connected to God and to

  6. each other through the power of God's Love and God's Word.

  7. In just a little while, we're going to tell you

  8. how to get the Lord's Prayer Words of Hope and

  9. Happiness gift book. This life giving resource will help you

  10. strengthen the hope of the children you love by introducing

  11. them to the Lord's Prayer. Go to Pastorick dot com

  12. to find out more, or text the word Daily to

  13. eight hundred six hundred five thousand and four. That's Pastorick

  14. dot com. Or the word Daily to eight hundred six

  15. hundred five thousand and four. Right now, here's Pastor Rick

  16. with part two of a message called the Prayer of Cleansing.

  17. When my sister was young growing up, I used to

  18. steal her money all the time. I knew where she

  19. kept it. I'd go into her room, find her money,

  20. take it. Go buy an album, Go buy comics, Go

  21. buy some candy. She probably wondered where all her money went.

  22. But I even figured out how you could take two

  23. forks and stick into her piggy bak and shake it

  24. upside down and the money would fall out. And I

  25. had a great collection of comic books from all of that.

  26. And God said, you know what, You've never confessed that

  27. to her, and you need to get that right, and

  28. you need to repay her. The second thing on that

  29. list is I had been in an unreported accident as

  30. a high school student. I had been with a couple

  31. of friends of mine and we had been in a

  32. parking lot one day at a store, and as we

  33. were backing out, I backed into a car behind me

  34. and smashed in the front of it. We got scared

  35. and left. I didn't leave a note. I didn't tell anybody.

  36. God said, you know that's wrong. You need to go

  37. to the police department and you need to admit that

  38. you were the one who bashed that in. See if

  39. it's on the records, so you can repay whoever that

  40. was for the damage it was done to their car.

  41. The third thing was I was a member of a

  42. small church and at that time I had really long hair, beautiful,

  43. flowing blonde hair. I was in northern California in the

  44. sixties and seventies.

  45. What do you expect? Okay?

  46. And my dad never had a problem with He said, son,

  47. grow it while you got it, cause you ain't gonna

  48. have it for long. So he never had a problem with.

  49. But my pastor, this small church was kind of conservative,

  50. didn't like guys wearing long hair in those days, and

  51. he regularly talked about it and put me on the defense.

  52. And I didn't like him, and so I told everybody

  53. like him. I gossiped about him, and I just did

  54. not do anything to build him up. I undermined him.

  55. And God said, I don't care what he's done, what

  56. his part is. You need to go and confess you've

  57. had a bad attitude. You need to ask forgiveness. So

  58. I finished that and I got in bed and God said,

  59. you're going to do it. I said, nope, not a chance, Nope.

  60. And God said, oh, really, have you thought about the

  61. consequences of this.

  62. Yep, you're going to do it? Nope?

  63. And I began a battle in my mind with God

  64. that night.

  65. God, I really don't want to do this.

  66. In fact, I'll do anything if you just forgive these

  67. three things. It would be humbling, it would be embarrassing.

  68. I would feel bad about it. I don't even want

  69. to do it. It's going to cost me. God said, Rick,

  70. this is a test. This is a test of your integrity.

  71. Will you do what I tell you to do? And

  72. let me tell you what integrity is. Integrity isn't being perfect.

  73. Integrity is not never sinning. If that is, nobody's got

  74. integrity because nobody's perfect. Integrity means being open and honest

  75. and willing to confess where you are weak, where you sin,

  76. and when you do wrong and get right. That's integrity.

  77. It's not being perfect. Nobody's perfect. It means being honest

  78. and authentic about your imperfections. I tried to do everything

  79. with God. I tried to bargain with God. God, if

  80. you'll forgive me, I will never do it again. God said,

  81. don't make promises. Just go get it right. God, if

  82. you will forgive me, I will never sin again.

  83. Right.

  84. Just go get it right, God, if you will forgive me,

  85. I tried to bargain with God. I will read my

  86. Bible every day the rest of my life. I will

  87. tell somebody about Jesus every day. God said, domain promises,

  88. go get it right. And I said, I don't want to.

  89. He said, Rick, if you won't be real with me,

  90. I won't be real with you. I want to bless

  91. your life. I want to use your life. But if

  92. I can't trust you in the little things of life,

  93. how can I trust you in the big things of life.

  94. This is a test.

  95. I tossed and turned all night, from about midnight to

  96. about five am in the morning, and finally I just

  97. go okay, And I just finally said I would do

  98. it so I.

  99. Could go to sleep, but I didn't really mean it.

  100. And I got up the next morning and it was

  101. a Saturday, and I did everything except go make those

  102. sins right. I did all my homework, I cleaned up

  103. my room, I washed both of my parents' cars, I

  104. cleaned up the patio, I offered to do errands for

  105. my mom.

  106. I was doing.

  107. Everything except that which I really needed to do. That night,

  108. I had been invited to be a guest speaker to

  109. a youth meeting, a youth rally at a small church

  110. about thirty miles away. I got in the car, drove

  111. over to that church, and I spoke. That night, I

  112. shouldn't have spoken. I was out of fellowship with God,

  113. out of fellowship with other people myself. God's power and

  114. presence wasn't there. God's blessing was there. The words were

  115. just bouncing off the wall. And I went home very

  116. discouraged and very defeated, knowing that God was withholding his

  117. blessing in my life. My dad, who was a pastor,

  118. asked me, said, Rick, can you go tomorrow up to

  119. a little town about sixty miles from here and can

  120. you fill in there for the pastor there who's sick.

  121. And I said sure, So I drove an hour north

  122. and I went to this little church and I spoke

  123. that morning, and I spoke that evening, and all afternoon

  124. I just wrestled with God, knowing that there is something

  125. intentionally between me and God that I was refusing to

  126. get right. I knew it was wrong, but I would

  127. not give in. And to speak to this group was

  128. a waste of their time and a waste of my time.

  129. And there was no blessing, no power, no grace. And

  130. I was discouraged and depressed and defeated, and I knew

  131. this wasn't working. I got in the car and as

  132. I was driving back home that night in the dark.

  133. I finally just broke down and said, Okay, God, I

  134. am so sorry. I'm never going to allow any little

  135. thing to get between me and you if I know

  136. it willingly. I will confess it when I make mistakes,

  137. when I sin, when I blow it, and I commit

  138. to getting this right. I got home and my parents

  139. and my sister were sitting in the living room watching television.

  140. Now to show you how long ago this happened, my

  141. parents were watching Bonanza.

  142. Okay, so it's that old, all right. And I walked

  143. in and I didn't even say anything.

  144. I just walked over to the television in front of

  145. them and flipped it off, turned it off like that,

  146. and I turned it around and said, I don't need

  147. you to do anything, but I need somebody to just

  148. confess this to and I need to get it off

  149. my chest. I've already confessed it to God, I need

  150. to confess it to somebody else. And I need to

  151. ask you to pray for me that I will have

  152. the courage to.

  153. Go get these three things right.

  154. And I admitted those three things there to my parents

  155. and my sister. I have this scar from my sister no.

  156. I made that part up.

  157. And so I just a minute, and I got on

  158. my knees in the living room, and I bowed, and

  159. I began to cry and weep and weep profusely, and

  160. my parents and my sister began to pray for me.

  161. And I felt the power of God fall on my

  162. life like I have never experienced before or since. And

  163. I could feel the blessing of God flowing into my life.

  164. And I could feel the power of God flowing into

  165. my life, and God saying, you pass the test, and

  166. I'm going to use you. I'm going to bless you

  167. and make you a blessing to other people. And that

  168. power flowing into my life was the turning point in

  169. my life. I want this so badly for you. You

  170. have no idea how much God wants to use your life.

  171. You have no idea how much God wants to bless

  172. your life. The things He could do in your life

  173. would astound you if your.

  174. Life was a clean vessel. But you've got to do

  175. business with God. You've got to pray the prayer of cleansing.

  176. This is Pastor Rick's daily hope. We're so glad you're

  177. with us today. Rick will be back in a moment,

  178. but first, recently, Pastor Rick had our graphic designers create

  179. a beautiful, frameable version of The Lord's Prayer that you

  180. can download for free right now by visiting Pastorick dot com.

  181. That's Pastorick dot com.

  182. Perhaps the most important role you can play in the

  183. life of a child is teaching them to trust God

  184. through prayer. It's the key to living with hope. Jesus said,

  185. we should always pray and never give up. That's why

  186. it's important to strengthen the hope of children by introducing

  187. them to Jesus's model for prayer at an early age.

  188. And we're excited to tell you about a very special

  189. resource to help you do just that. It's called The

  190. Lord's Prayer Words of Hope and Happiness. This book brings

  191. the poetic scripture of the King James version of the

  192. Bible to life. Readers young and old will enjoy thoughtful

  193. insights from New York Times best selling author Pastor Rick

  194. Warren and stunning illustrations by award winning artist Richard Jesse Watson.

  195. It's sure to become a meaningful bedtime ritual, a treasure memory,

  196. and a lasting legacy that bears good fruit for generations

  197. to come. This wonderful book is a perfect way to

  198. share the beauty and richness of the Lord's Prayer with

  199. the children the Lord has placed in your life, and

  200. we'll send it to you to say thanks. When you

  201. give a gift to Daily Hope, your gift will be

  202. used to help take the good news of Jesus Christ

  203. to people everywhere. Just call eight hundred six hundred five

  204. zero zero four or go to Fastrick dot com. That's

  205. eight hundred six hundred five zero zero four, or go

  206. to Pastor Rick dot com. Thanks so very much. Today

  207. is the last day to get your copy of the

  208. Lord's Prayer Children's Gift Book, So don't wait.

  209. You're listening to Pastor Rick's Daily Hope once again. Here's

  210. Pastor Rick Warren.

  211. I want to give you now, very simply, real quickly,

  212. the six steps on the path to a clear conscience.

  213. There is no reason you should leave this building with

  214. any guilt in your life.

  215. Whatever guilt you've.

  216. Been caring for weeks or months or years, you need

  217. to deal with it. Now make business with God and

  218. go out with a clear conscience and be guilt free.

  219. How do you do it? Six steps on the back

  220. of your outline. There here's the steps. Number one, I

  221. review every area of my life. That's the first step.

  222. I review every area of my life. We call this

  223. making it a personal moral inventory or a a personal

  224. spiritual assessment. And what you do is you sit down

  225. with God in a quiet space, by yourself, all alone,

  226. when you're unhurried, and you do what I just told

  227. you about I did.

  228. God.

  229. I'm gonna do business with you, and I'm going to

  230. make a list of anything that's between me and you

  231. that's wrong in my life that I feel guilty about,

  232. consciously or unconsciously. Help me to know the things that

  233. I know that are wrong and the things that I

  234. don't know that are wrong. The Bible says in Lamentations

  235. Chapter three, let us test and examine our ways.

  236. Now you get off by.

  237. Yourself with a pen and a notepad, where you're totally disturbed.

  238. You ask God to reveal your sins, and you say, Lord,

  239. in clearing clear my mind, let me give you a

  240. verse to write down. Psalm one thirty nine, twenty three

  241. and twenty four. Psalm one thirty nine, twenty three and

  242. twenty four says this search me O, God.

  243. And know my heart, test me and know my thoughts.

  244. Point out anything in me that offends you, anything, and

  245. lead me along the path of everlasting life. That is

  246. the prayer saying, God, turn your spotlight on my innerside

  247. to find the stuff that's entangled me, that's hindering me,

  248. that's holding me back. Now you take your time. You

  249. don't rush it. You don't say, God, I got five

  250. minutes for you to reveal every sin I've ever done.

  251. Now you take your time, and you.

  252. Say write it all down, and say, well, couldn't I

  253. just think it? Might have to write it down. You

  254. have to write it down. Writing makes it specific. Thoughts

  255. disentangle themselves through the flips and the fingertips. You talk

  256. it and you say, and you write it. If you

  257. haven't written it down, you haven't really thought about it.

  258. It makes it specific. By the way, it's also cathartic.

  259. It helps get it out of you and onto the paper.

  260. You want to get the gunk out of you. Now

  261. you're gonna burn this paper later on, but you just

  262. get it out of you. The Bible says this, if

  263. we judged ourselves in the right way, God would not

  264. judge us. Now to get you started. I've written here

  265. a personal spiritual assessment, and if you open it up

  266. inside it's a sin list. Here's a personal spiritual assessment too.

  267. The following is a list of common sins that prevent

  268. God from blessing and using our lives. As you prayerfully

  269. read this, examine yourself and circle or highlight or underline

  270. the areas that apply to you. You don't even have

  271. to write them down. I'm making this easy. You just

  272. read it, go yep, that's me, yep, that's me, yep.

  273. You underline it, you circle it, you highlight it, and

  274. then when you get to get at the end, you go, now, God,

  275. is there anything else? And you write down those things too.

  276. And nobody else is going to see this. It's just

  277. between you and God. It's a personal spiritual assessment. By

  278. the way, we'll put it on the website too, so

  279. those of you are watching.

  280. On the internet can download it, and those.

  281. Of you who would like other copies can download it too. Now,

  282. nobody else is going to see this. Now, let me

  283. ask you a very important question. How serious are you

  284. about God blessing your life? How badly do you want

  285. God's blessing in your life? Oh, I'd like to have

  286. it enough that you're willing to be gut level honest.

  287. Are you willing to be honest to God? Are you

  288. willing to be honest with yourself? Are you gonna lie

  289. to yourself? Are you going to be willing to be

  290. honest with other people? Are you going to just live

  291. in denial? Denial in God's blessing do not go hand

  292. in hand. Friend, You are seconds away from liberation. You

  293. are seconds away from a feeling of cleanness and joy

  294. and purity that you haven't had ever, that you've never experienced.

  295. You are seconds away from a total freedom in your

  296. life that could set you free from some habits and

  297. hurts and hang ups that are messing up your life.

  298. I want to ask you to do this today. Don't procrastinate.

  299. There's nothing more important than your life than to have

  300. the blessing of God. Go home today, get alone by yourself,

  301. read through this and do a personal moral inventory. That's

  302. step one. Now, once you've done that, you do step two.

  303. Here's the second step. I repent of every sin. First,

  304. I review every area, and then I repent of every sin.

  305. What does it mean to repent? It means three things.

  306. It means, first, I take responsibility for my sin.

  307. Yep, I'm not going to blame anybody else for this.

  308. Second, it means I turn away from those things. And

  309. third it means I turn toward God and his grace

  310. and say, God, I don't want to be that anymore.

  311. I take responsibility, I turn away, and I turn.

  312. Two. That's what it means to repent. Now what do

  313. you do on that?

  314. The Bible says this, let us turn again in repentance

  315. to the Lord. Let us lift our hearts and hands

  316. to God in heaven and say we have sinned and rebelled.

  317. You write it down, you accept responsibility. What does it

  318. mean to repent? Well, first, I don't rationalize it. I

  319. don't say, well it was no big deal. Well it

  320. was a big deal. You wouldn't have remembered it. I

  321. don't minimize it. I don't rationalize it. I said, well,

  322. it happened so long time ago, or it was just

  323. a stage I went through, or everybody does.

  324. It doesn't matter.

  325. You don't rationalize, you don't minimize, you don't accuse, you

  326. don't excuse. You don't blame others, Well it was mostly

  327. their fault. Well it may the ninety nine point nine

  328. percent their fault. God says you accept responsibility for your

  329. one percent or point one percent?

  330. What am I saying?

  331. Listen very closely. The greatest hold up to the healing

  332. of your hang up.

  333. Is you.

  334. You're not waiting on God. You're not waiting on anybody

  335. else the hang ups in your life. The greatest hold

  336. up to your hang up is you. God wants to

  337. heal it in your life.

  338. Now.

  339. The Bible says this up here on the screen. If

  340. we claim to be without sin, we're just deceiving ourselves.

  341. We're living in a world of illusion.

  342. What the Bible says, we're acting in a fantasy world

  343. where we're pretending.

  344. We're faking it.

  345. If we claim to be without sin, we're just deceiving ourselves.

  346. We're certainly not deceiving God, and we're not even deceiving

  347. anybody else, because everybody else knows you've blown it. We

  348. just deceive ourselves. It's self deception and the truth is

  349. not in us. Now, listen very closely to this. The

  350. things that defeat you in your life, the self defeating

  351. habits in your life that you don't like about you.

  352. Who would you like to get rid of them.

  353. You will stop defeating yourself when you stop deceiving yourself.

  354. This is Pastor Rick's daily Hope. We're so glad you're

  385. to get your copy of The Lord's Prayer Children's Gift Book,

  386. so don't wait. Here's Pastor Rick with a letter from

  387. one of our listeners.

  388. You know I love getting these letters from you when

  389. you write in from all around the world. My prayers

  390. at Daily Hope will bring that hope that we find

  391. in God's Word to people in every nation. Here's a

  392. note from one of our listeners who actually lives in India.

  393. Dear Pastor Rick, it's a great honor for me to

  394. share how I get blessings from the Daily Hope Devotional

  395. every day. It's already been a year and a half

  396. that I've been reading the Daily Hope Devotional and I

  397. thank God for these I also share these devotionals through

  398. social media like Facebook and WhatsApp, and I send the

  399. daily devotions to forty different pastors and fifty different lay

  400. leaders and to some of my church members and friends.

  401. I send them all over Central India and to almost

  402. five hundred people across the country. Thank you so much

  403. for this Daily Hope Devotional and may God continue to

  404. use every reader who have been called by God for

  405. His purposes with blessings. Reverend Langkim, pastor of the Kookie

  406. Baptist Convention, Manipur, India. Well, I love how a Pastor

  407. Lampkin is using Facebook, He's using What's app to share

  408. these devotionals with hundreds of people in India. Do you

  409. realize that when you tell anybody about this broadcast or

  410. when you pass on the written devotional, you're actually partners

  411. with us in sharing the Gospel all around the world,

  412. and the Bible says that his partners and ministry we

  413. will share in the rewards together. Now, this is something

  414. anybody can do, and if you haven't thought about it,

  415. start making a list of people you could tell about
