  1. This is Pastor Rick's Daily Hope, the Bible teaching ministry

  2. of Pastor Rick Warren. Today we begin a series called Transformed.

  3. In these lessons, Rick uncovers key principles found in God's

  4. Word that will completely transform our lives from the inside

  5. out in every area including spiritual, physical, mental, emotional, relational, financial,

  6. and vocational. Now, before we get started, we want to

  7. let you know that a very generous friend has given

  8. one hundred thousand dollars matching grant to Daily Hope. That

  9. means that all this month, every dollar you give to

  10. help Daily Hope share the hope of Jesus around the

  11. world will be matched up to one hundred thousand dollars.

  12. You can find out more by going to Pastorick dot

  13. com or by texting the word daily to eight hundred

  14. six hundred five thousand and four. That's Pastor Rick dot

  15. or the word Daily to eight hundred six hundred five

  16. thousand and four. Right now, here's Pastor Rick Warren with

  17. part one of a message called setting Personal Goals by Faith.

  18. Romans twelve to two. Do not conform to the pattern

  19. of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of

  20. your mind. Okay, let's read it again. Do not conform

  21. to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by

  22. the renewing of your mind. God wants you to be

  23. a non conformist. He wants you to be a non conformist.

  24. Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but

  25. be transformed. You'll be either be conformed or you're going

  26. to be transformed. You see, God created you to be unique.

  27. God created you to be special. God created you to

  28. be like nobody else. You have a unique voice print, thumbprint, handprint, heartbeat.

  29. God doesn't make clones. Man does. But God doesn't make clones.

  30. And God says, I want you to be unique, not

  31. conformed to anybody else's idea of what you should be.

  32. But the problem is we all start off as originals,

  33. but we end up as copies of other people, and

  34. we get conformed, and we get pressured and we get

  35. pushed into a into a mold. Now, during the next

  36. seven weeks, we're going to look at seven key areas

  37. of your life and the changes that you need to make,

  38. want to make, and can make because of God's power

  39. in your life. We're going to look at your spiritual health.

  40. We're going to look at your physical health, mental health,

  41. emotional health. We're going to talk about transforming the way

  42. you think, transforming the way you feel. We're going to

  43. talk about financial health, transforming the way you look and

  44. use look at and use money, relationships, relational health, vocational health,

  45. your career, and where you're going for the rest of

  46. your life. Now, let me explain to you where we're going.

  47. We're going to look at seven key areas of your life,

  48. but we also have seven key features that are going

  49. to help you grow. What I want to do today

  50. is explain to you why you must set goals for

  51. your life and God says it. It's very clear in

  52. the Word of God why you must do it and

  53. the changes that will make in your life and the

  54. power that it will do. So this is all about

  55. the future. A lot of times we talk about problems

  56. and pressures in your life. This series is about your potential.

  57. This series is about your possibilities. This series is about

  58. your future making the best of the rest of your life.

  59. So I'm very excited about it. Now, I want to

  60. begin by giving you the six reasons why you need

  61. to learn how to set goals in your life. Number one,

  62. the Bible says six things about goal setting. Number one,

  63. the Bible says that goal setting is a spiritual responsibility.

  64. Goal setting is a spiritual responsibility. Did you know that

  65. God sets goals? God has goals for the universe. God

  66. has goals for planet Earth. God has goals for history,

  67. God has goals for eternity, and God certainly has goals

  68. for your life. The Bible tells us that Jesus set goals.

  69. In fact, he often announced publicly what his next goal was.

  70. I'm going to do this now, I'm going to do

  71. this now, and I'm going to do this now. He

  72. publicly would announce in advance what his goal was for

  73. the next phase of his ministry. Every person who walked

  74. with God in the Bible, you can find examples of

  75. being goal directed. But let me just give you one example.

  76. The apostle Paul Philippians, chapter three. It says this, I

  77. know that I'm not yet what God wants me to be.

  78. Hang on, anybody agree with that. I know that I'm

  79. not yet what God wants me to be. I haven't

  80. reached that goal, but I keep moving toward it to

  81. make it mine because Christ made me and saved me

  82. for this. Now I know that I haven't reached my goal.

  83. But there is one thing I always do forgetting the

  84. past and straining toward what is ahead. I keep my

  85. eyes focused on the goal, so that I may one

  86. day win the prize that God has called me to

  87. receive through Christ in the life above. Now all of

  88. you who are spiritually mature should think this same way too.

  89. I want you to circle three things. That goal, my goal,

  90. and the goal. Paul was goal oriented. He says, I

  91. haven't reach that goal. I haven't yet reached my goal.

  92. And my focus, my eyes are focused on the goal.

  93. Why is it important for you to set a goal?

  94. Because it's a spiritual responsibility. You're gonna go through life

  95. either by design or by default. You're either gonna set

  96. goals and you're gonna decide what's important for your life,

  97. or other people are gonna decide it for you. If

  98. you don't have goals for your life, you are abdicating

  99. control of your life to somebody else and other things.

  100. If you don't have goals for your life, you're not living.

  101. You're just reacting. You're just existing. If you don't have

  102. clear goals for your life, you're just coasting through life.

  103. You are drifting through life, and whenever you're coasting, you're

  104. always going downhill. If you don't have goals for your life,

  105. you have already decided to let other people run your

  106. life because you don't know what's important. So you're gonna

  107. let them decide, and you react to circin cumstances, and

  108. you go through your whole life wasting your life because

  109. you have it clarified what's important.

  110. Thank you so much for listening to Pastor Rick's Daily Hope.

  111. We've got some incredible news to share with you. A

  112. very generous friend has given a one hundred thousand dollars

  144. pastorick dot com that's eight hundred at six hundred at

  145. five zero zero four or pastorick dot com.

  146. Once again, here's Rick.

  147. If you don't have goals for your life, you have

  148. already decided to let other people run your life because

  149. you don't know what's important, so you're gonna let them decide,

  150. and you react to circumstances, and you go through your

  151. whole life wasting your life because you haven't clarified what's important.

  152. You're allowing others direct your life. The Bible says to

  153. be spiritually mature. He says, all of you are spiritually mature,

  154. should think the same way. I set my goal, I

  155. strive to my goal, I move toward my goal. I

  156. keep my eyes focused on the goal. That's what Paul said,

  157. probably the greatest Christian who ever lived, next to Jesus himself.

  158. Number two, goals are statements of faith. Goals are statements

  159. of faith. A lot of people, well, goal, isn't that

  160. like a business thing? Isn't that like a secular thing?

  161. Isn't that a like something athletes do. No no, no no.

  162. This is a spiritual habit that you need to develop.

  163. And goals are statements of faith. In other words, if

  164. you're a believer in Jesus Christ, when you set a goal,

  165. what you're saying is I believe that's faith. I believe

  166. that God wants me to accomplish such and such by

  167. such and such a time. That's a statement of faith.

  168. A goal is a statement of this is what I

  169. believe God is going to do in my life. Goals

  170. don't just aren't just a statement of faith. They stretch

  171. your faith. And the bigger your goal, the more your

  172. faith will be stretched, and that pleases God. The Bible says,

  173. without faith, it is impossible to please God. So if

  174. you don't have any goal, you don't need any faith.

  175. And if you don't need any faith, the Bible says

  176. it's impossible to please God. In fact, in Romans fourteen,

  177. it says, whatsoever is not a faith is sin. So

  178. if I'm going through life without having to need any faith,

  179. if I don't have any goals, I don't need to

  180. take any risks. And if I don't take any risks,

  181. I don't need any faith, and if I don't have

  182. any faith, I am being unfaithful. You see how important

  183. it is for you to have a goal in every

  184. area of your life. Now here's a goal stretching verse Ephesians,

  185. chapter three, Verse twenty. God can do anything far more

  186. than you could ever imagine. I don't know. I can

  187. imagine some big things, far more than you could ever

  188. imagine or guess or dare to request in your wildest dreams.

  189. I don't know about you, but I can imagine some

  190. pre big things. I'm a pretty big dreamer. Nobody has

  191. ever accused me of being a small thinker. I've always

  192. had big dreams. And yet God says Rick, you think

  193. of the greatest thing, of the greatest dream I could

  194. do in your life, And guess what I can top that?

  195. I can beat that. I am. I can do anything

  196. far more than you would ever imagine or guests or

  197. dare to request in your wildest dream. Let the size

  198. of your God determine the size of your goal. You

  199. let the size of God determine the size of my goal.

  200. Many years ago, when Saddleback decided to buy this land,

  201. it's one hundred and twenty acres to buy one hundred

  202. and twenty acres in Orange County would seem like nonsense

  203. to most people. And when we as a church decided

  204. to buy this one hundred and twenty acres because we

  205. weren't we were just not a very big church at

  206. the time. And I remember the word God on the

  207. comunity is this little group of people called Saddleback was

  208. buying one hundred and twenty acres, And the question was

  209. going through the community, who do they think they are?

  210. And I thought, that's the wrong question. The question is

  211. not who do we think we are? The question is

  212. who do we think God is? Who do we think

  213. God is? Big? God? Big goal, tiny God, tiny goal,

  214. No God, no goal. Let the size of God determine

  215. the size of your goal. I guess what I want

  216. to say to you as your pastor, as somebody who

  217. loves you and I want the best for your life

  218. and I want you to succeed in life, is during

  219. the next fifty days, I dare you to dream great dreams.

  220. I dare you stop your puny, little thinking, stop being

  221. in a little bitty box. Well I'm too young, or

  222. i'm too old, or I'm not pretty enough, or I'm

  223. not handsome enough. Or I'm a woman, or I'm a

  224. guy or whatever. Stop all your arguments and start dreaming

  225. what God could do in your life if you would

  226. just trust him to me Hell would be if God

  227. were to show me all I could have accomplished in

  228. my life, if I just believed him a little bit more,

  229. that would be hell. We limit God by our unbelief. Now,

  230. there are two common mistakes we make in goal setting.

  231. We set them too low, and we try to accomplish

  232. them too quickly. As your pastor, I am urging you

  233. in the next it's fifty days, and each week we're

  234. going to set a goal in each of the seven areas.

  235. You'll set one for your area. I challenge you to

  236. dream big dreams for God, and I challenge you to

  237. think bigger than you ever thought before, so that you

  238. have to trust God. See. I live my life in

  239. such a way that I am bound to fail unless

  240. God bails me out. I can't tell you how many

  241. times I've painted myself into a corner when everybody goes,

  242. who does he think he is? I mean, look at

  243. what he's trying to do. Like one time we said, hey,

  244. let's be the first church in two thousand years to

  245. go to every nation nobody had ever done that. We

  246. did it. Why because we set a goal and God

  247. helped us. And I have spent my life dreaming great dreams.

  248. And it's amazing what God can do in your life

  249. if you will do that. Now here's the cool thing.

  250. Dreaming doesn't cost anything, doesn't cost you any money, doesn't

  251. cost you a penny. You can dream great dreams. What

  252. do I dream about in my relationships? What do I

  253. dream about in my career? What do I dream about

  254. in my finances? What do I dream could happen in

  255. my relationship with God? How would I want to look?

  256. How healthy would I want to be? On all these days?

  257. Dream great dreams. You see, we overestimate what we can

  258. do in a year, and we underestimate what you can

  259. do in ten. Instead, yet is thinking puny, little tiny

  260. goals and trying accomplishing them instantly. My challenge is get

  261. a big goal for your life and then spend the

  262. rest of your life going after it. I did when

  263. I was twenty five years old and I moved here.

  264. It started this church with no member, no money, nobody,

  265. and I set a forty year goal for this church.

  266. When I was twenty five that seemed like an eternity.

  267. Goals are statements of faith. By the way, the difference

  268. between a goal and a dream is you put a

  269. deadline on it. Now, if you don't have a date

  270. a deadline on your goal, it's not a goal. It's

  271. just a dream. A dream is good, but you need both. Now,

  272. here's what the Bible says Matthew nine nine. According to

  273. your faith, it will be done to you. According to

  274. your faith, it will be done to you. God says,

  275. you get to choose how much I bless your life,

  276. how much I transform your life. Great faith will be

  277. great transformation. Nothing happens in your life till you start dreaming.

  278. God says, you get to choose, according to your life,

  279. your faith, it will be done. So I'm going to

  280. encourage you that when we start setting one goal a

  281. week over the next seven weeks, don't miss any of

  282. these that you you ask the question, will this require

  283. me to have faith? Is it such a big dream

  284. that I'm bound to fail unless God helps me? I'm

  285. really going out on a limb. Don't ever be afraid

  286. to go out on a limb. That's where the fruit is.

  287. The fruit is not at the trunk. You don't get

  288. the fruit by playing it safe. It's out on the limb,

  289. and never be afraid to rock the boat of Jesus

  290. as your captain. I'm sharing your life experience tonight because

  291. I'm looking out on the next generation of saddleback right here,

  292. and I'm going I want you to know God like

  293. I do, and I want you to trust Him like

  294. I do. And I want you to be used by

  295. God in ways that you've never ever imagined. I never

  296. imagined all of this, but God did. Goals are statements

  297. of faith. Number three goals focus my energy. Well, another

  298. one of the reasons why you need to set goals

  299. in every air of your life is they focus your energy.

  300. They keep you from wasting time, money, reputation, energy. They

  301. keep you focused. Selection is the name of the game.

  302. Focus is the key to an effective life.

  303. This is Pastor Rick's daily hope. In just a moment,

  304. Rick is going to tell you about our recent one

  305. hundred thousand dollars matching grant from a very generous listener.

  306. But first he's going to share with us how God

  307. has been using your financial gifts to help us share

  308. Christ with people around the world.

  309. Here's Rick, Hi, friends, what did it surprise you to

  310. know that there are entire groups of people who have

  311. never heard about Jesus still in our world today. I'm

  312. talking about the small tribes of less than a one

  313. hundred thousand people in many, many distant places who have

  314. never heard the name of Jesus Christ. That means there's

  315. not a single Christian among them. There is no church,

  316. they have no Bible, there is no believer. Can you

  317. imagine that? Would you help me reach these unreached, unengaged people.

  318. You know, one of the reasons I started Daily Hope

  319. was to find partners who would help us take the

  320. hope of the good news of the Gospel to the

  321. whole world, to the final frontier, these unreached, unengaged tribes.

  322. Jesus wants us to witness to all nations and to

  323. all people. He never made a person he did in love.

  324. He never made a person he didn't want saved. And

  325. Jesus died so that all may be saved. But people

  326. can't follow Jesus if they've never heard about him, and

  327. they've never heard of God's grace, how can they reas?

  328. So I'm asking you to help me in this finishing

  329. the task project. Thank you for your support. You know,

  330. Daily Hope is now reaching over thirty four million people

  331. each month through Daily Hope audio teachings and our email devotionals.

  332. But we're only able to do this because of your

  333. partnership with Daily Hope. We're working together to help us

  334. fulfill the great commission. Imagine when you get to heaven,

  335. somebody comes up to you and says, I just want

  336. to thank you. I'm here because you cared enough for

  337. someone like me. You prayed and you gave, and you shared,

  338. and you sacrificed, and I'm in heaven because of you.

  339. Will that be worth it? Even as we rejoice in

  340. the success, we need to remember that there's still billions

  341. of people who need to know Jesus and we got

  342. to keep going. So I'm asking you, prayerfully to consider

  343. giving the biggest gift you've ever given, or that you

  344. can give before the end of this year. Said, there

  345. are still about three thousand unreached people groups that have

  346. either few or no believers in them. We've been able

  347. to reach about six hundred of those tribes, making sure

  348. there's a Christian living among them who speaks their language

  349. and can help them understand the Bible. But that's just

  350. the first step. The truth is an unreached people group

  351. isn't considered reached until it has a healthy church, a

  352. body of Christ that's able to plant new churches within

  353. that group. So to help that happen, we're working on

  354. translating spiritual growth tools into about two hundred new languages

  355. for people who have virtually no Christian resources available. Think

  356. of all the Christian books you could buy at Christmas

  357. this year, Think of all the books you could pass

  358. on at birthdays. These are so available in English, but

  359. we need to translate them in all the other languages.

  360. These translations are strategic that we've selected once to share

  361. the Gospel and to help disciple new believers where it

  362. is most needed right now. Now. These resources are also

  363. going to help young pastors grow and train others to

  364. build the church in their nations and in their groups. Now,

  365. we've made a lot of good progress, but we got

  366. a lot of work ahead of us in this task,

  367. and it is a monumental vision. I can't do this

  368. by myself. I need your help. It's a timely vision,

  369. it's a global vision. But every vision listen requires provision Honestly,

  370. we wouldn't be able to do any of this vision

  371. without you, and that's why I cannot fully express how

  372. much I appreciate your financial support of Daily Hope. You

  373. know I don't take a salary in this. This is

  374. all a ministry of love and all of these funds

  375. are going to help reach more people. Now, let me

  376. give you some exciting news. A generous friend of Daily

  377. Hope has offered a one hundred thousand dollars matching grant.

  378. But any gift you give by December thirty first this

  379. year will be doubled up to one hundred thousand dollars.

  380. That means every dollar you give the Daily Hope between

  381. now and the end of the year will be doubled.

  382. Would you please prayerfully consider how you can give today,

  383. how you can reach more people for Jesus in the

  384. coming year. And please, while you're at it, pray that

  385. I will faithfully teach God's word in a way that

  386. will penetrate hearts. Pray for our Daily Hope team as

  387. they coordinate our outreach, and most of all, pray for

  388. the people we're trying to reach that their hearts will

  389. be prepared to hear the message of the good News

  390. of Christ and that they will come to know the

  391. grace of God and grow and mature in their Christian faith.

  392. You have a part of the most important task in history. Now.

  393. My prayer for you is that God's going to bless

  394. you throughout this coming year, and that He will bless

  395. you so much that you can be a blessing to others.

  396. You know we're blessed to be a blessing, and my

  397. prayers that He will draw you closer and closer to Him.

  398. God bless you.

  399. Remember, as Rick just shared, whatever you give today will

  400. be doubled by the matching grant up to one hundred

  401. thousand dollars, but only till midnight December thirty first. Anything

  402. not matched will be lost, So please contact us today

  403. call eight hundred six hundred five thousand and four or

  404. go to Pastorrick dot com. That's eight hundred six hundred

  405. five thousand and four or Pastorick dot com. Be sure
