  1. This is Pastor Rick's Daily Hope, the Bible teaching ministry

  2. of Pastor Rick Warren. Today we continue in a series

  3. called Transformed. In these lessons, Rick uncovers key principles found

  4. in God's Word that will completely transform our lives from

  5. the inside out in every area including spiritual, physical, mental, emotional, relational, financial,

  6. and vocational. Now, before we get started, we want to

  7. let you know that a very generous friend has given

  8. one hundred thousand dollars matching grant to Daily Hope. That

  9. means that all this month, every dollar you give to

  10. help Daily Hope share the hope of Jesus around the

  11. world will be matched up to one hundred thousand dollars.

  12. You can find out more by going to Pastorick dot

  13. com or by texting the word Daily to eight hundred,

  14. six hundred five thousand and four. That's Pastor Rick d

  15. or the word Daily to eight hundred six hundred five

  16. thousand and four. Right now, here's Pastor Rick Warren with

  17. the final part of a message called setting personal Goals

  18. by Faith.

  19. When you give your life to a good goal, it

  20. builds a legacy on earth. The Bible says in Proverbs

  21. eleven twenty seven. Let's read this verse aloud together. Okay,

  22. read it with me. If your goals are good, you

  23. will be respected. Circle that you will be respected. You

  24. want to be respected, then you need to set some

  25. goals that are good. The entire nation will celebrate Martin

  26. Luther King Day. Why why do we take a holiday

  27. for one guy? Because he was a man who set

  28. good goals and he didn't live for himself. He didn't

  29. live for greed, he didn't live for pleasure, he didn't

  30. live for popularity. He lived to fight in justice and

  31. to fight prejudice, and to fight racism, and to fight

  32. for truth. He set good goals for his life, and

  33. so he is honored with a holiday. One of the

  34. greatest honors I've ever been given in my entire life

  35. was the honor of preaching in Martin Luther King's home

  36. church on the fortieth anniversary of his death. And so

  37. on the fortieth anniversary of Martin Luther King's death, on

  38. that day, they invited me to speak at Ebenezer Baptist

  39. Church in Atlanta. I was the first white preacher to

  40. preach in that church, and that was an honor to me.

  41. Why because I respect people who use their lives to

  42. make a difference. And if you were to come to

  43. my study, you'd find a picture of Martin Luther King

  44. on the wall with a typed letter, signed letter underneath it.

  45. And you'd see another picture of Mother Teresa with a

  46. handwritten note underneath it. And you'd see a note from

  47. Billy Graham with a handwritten a note, and many others.

  48. And some of these people on that wall are not Christians.

  49. They're not Christians, But I honor them. Why because they

  50. gave their lives for the good of others. They had

  51. a goal greater than themselves. They didn't live a little

  52. selfish clot of a life living for I want to

  53. make a lot of money and retire. Oh yeah, you

  54. think God puts you on earth to do that. Make

  55. a lot of money and retire. That's the whole purpose life.

  56. Wrong answer. God wants to teach you how to love.

  57. If your goals are good, you'll be respected. But the

  58. real reward in setting good goals is going to come

  59. in eternity. Look at this next verse first Corinthians nine

  60. twenty five. All athletes practice strict self control. You know,

  61. they eat right and they sleep right, and they they

  62. they you know, they work out, they exercise. They do

  63. it to win a prize that will fade Nobody's going

  64. to remember yesterday's game in two weeks, much less two years.

  65. They do it to win a prize that will fade away.

  66. But we do it for an eternal prize. So I run.

  67. Paul says, straight to the goal, with purpose in every step.

  68. He's purpose driven goal setter. You need to be that too. Now,

  69. not every goal that you can set is a good goal.

  70. Not every goal is a goal that God's going to bless.

  71. So you want to set goals in these seven areas

  72. over the next seven weeks. You want to set these

  73. in your life. But you want to set the kind

  74. of goal that God is going to bless. God's going

  75. to give you the power to do. So, how do

  76. I know the kind of goal that God will bless?

  77. Let me just close by giving you three questions. When

  78. you get ready to set a goal, you want to

  79. ask these three questions. Number one, the first question is

  80. will this goal honor God? That's the first question asked.

  81. Will this goal honor God? And what kind of goal

  82. will honor God? What kind of goal brings glory to God?

  83. Any goal that causes you to trust him more, to

  84. depend on him more, to love him more, to love

  85. other people more, to serve God and serve others, to

  86. be more unselfish. Those are going to be good goals,

  87. the Bible says in first print in six point twenty

  88. God paid a great price for you. Look at the cross.

  89. So use your body to honor God. Are you using

  90. your body to honor God? Are you using your body

  91. for pleasure for selfish reasons? Use your body to honor God?

  92. You might circle that first Crimsians ten thirty one. When

  93. you eat, or drink, or do anything, always do it

  94. to honor God. Everything can be done to honor God.

  95. You can take out the garbage to honor God. You

  96. can wash dishes to honor God. You can clean out

  97. your car to honor God. Or your closet. You can

  98. study it for a test to honor God. How by

  99. doing it with the right motive, out of gratitude and

  100. for the right motivation. I want my life to bring

  101. honor to God. So I'm going to be the best

  102. I can be for God's sake? Will this goal honor God?

  103. Now?

  104. The Bible says this, We make it our goal to

  105. please him second Corinthians five nine. Second question, is this

  106. goal motivated by love? That's the second thing you want

  107. to ask. When you set a goal for your finances,

  108. for your health, for your relationships, will this goal? Is

  109. this goal motivated by love? God is not going to

  110. bless a goal motivated by greed. I don't want to

  111. make a whole lot of money. God is not going

  112. to bless a goal motivated by competition. I want to

  113. be better than that company. God is not going to

  114. bless a goal motivated by envy. God is not going

  115. to bless a goal motivated by greed or grief, or

  116. guilt or grudges. He's not going to be honor a

  117. goal that's built on worry or fear or anxiety. God

  118. is not going to bless a goal that's motivated by materialism,

  119. or by ego, or by pride. But when you set

  120. a goal out of love, God, I want to do

  121. this because I love you and I want to love

  122. other people. God's going to honor that because it's all

  123. about love. Life is all about learning how to love.

  124. First Grintin sixteen fourteen. Everything you do must be done

  125. with love. Everything first corinthing is fourteen to one. Love

  126. must be your highest goal. That should be the number

  127. one goal in your life. I want to learn to

  128. really love. I want to learn to love unlovely people.

  129. And I want to learn to love the loveless and

  130. the unloved. And I want to learn to love people

  131. who are hard to love. That's being like God. Why

  132. is it important for you to have goals that are

  133. based on love? Because if you set loveless goals, you're

  134. going to treat people's projects. You're going to run all

  135. over them to get to your goal. You're going to

  136. run over your marriage, You're going to run over your friends,

  137. You're going to run over the other people climbing up

  138. the ladder success. And God says, no, no, you got

  139. it all wrong. It's not about accomplishments. It's about relationships.

  140. It's about learning how to love. Third thing, Third question?

  141. Will this goal require depending on God? Will this goal

  142. require depending on God? Remember I said earlier Hebrews eleven six.

  143. Without faith, it's impossible to please God. If you don't

  144. have a goal that requires faith, then it's not a

  145. pleasing to God goal. Roman's fourteen twenty three. Everything that

  146. doesn't come from faith is sin. If you have a

  147. goal that's so small it doesn't require any faith to

  148. do it. It's a sin. Whatever is not a faith,

  149. the Bible says, is sin. Now look at this verse

  150. Proverbs sixteen, verse nine. Why don't we read this one

  151. aloud to you? Do with me? Proverb sixteen nine. We

  152. plan the way we want to live, but only God

  153. makes us able to live it. I love that in

  154. the message paraphrase, that's what we're gonna do during fifty

  155. days of transformation. You get the plan the way you

  156. want to live.

  157. Thank you so much for listening to Pastor Rick's Daily Hope.

  196. us right away.

  197. Once again, here's Rick.

  198. We get the plan the way we want to live,

  199. but it says only God gives us the power, gives

  200. us the energy, gives us the ability to actually do it,

  201. to make the transformation. Why because God provides the three

  202. things you must have to reach your goal. Write these down.

  203. Three things you must have to meet your goal. Three

  204. things you must have to change your life. Number one,

  205. I need God's Spirit to empower me. This is not

  206. something based on willpower. It's based on God power. It's

  207. not based on trying, It's based on trusting. I need

  208. God's Spirit to empower me. Zachariah for six says you

  209. will succeed. You will not succeed. It says you will

  210. not succeed by your own strength or your own power,

  211. but by my spirit, says the Lord. I need God's

  212. spirit to empower me to make changes I can't to

  213. make on my own. Number two, I need God's word

  214. to guide me. I need God's spirit to empower me.

  215. I need God's word to guide me. This book here,

  216. the Bible, is the owner's manual for life. The more

  217. you get this book into your mind, your heart, and

  218. your life. The more you read it, study it, memorize it,

  219. meditate on it, the more successful, the more fulfilled, the

  220. more strong you're going to be in life. When Joshua

  221. was given the great dream of taking over the Promised Land,

  222. and it was a goal that was going to take

  223. him the rest of his life, God had these words

  224. to say to Joshua Chapter one, verse eight. Keep this

  225. book that's the Bible. Keep this book of the Law

  226. on your lips. In other words, talk about it all

  227. the time. Recite it by day and night. That means

  228. memorize it so you can quote it. Recite it by

  229. day and night that you may carefully follow all that

  230. is written in it. That's the premise. Now here's the promise.

  231. Then you will successfully attain your goal. You might underline

  232. that last phrase if you ever intend to be in

  233. business for yourself, you ought to memorize that verse factive

  234. be a good verse for everybody to memorize. Keep this

  235. Book of the Law in your heart, read it, memorize it,

  236. live it, practice it. Study it. That you're careful to

  237. follow it and obey, then you will be successful. You

  238. will attain your goal. That is one of the greatest

  239. promises of success in the Bible. And that promise doesn't

  240. come from some self help guru. That promise comes from God.

  241. You will successfully attain your goal. How if you become

  242. a man of the word, you become a woman of

  243. the word. All you need to know about life is

  244. in this book right here. I need God's spirit to

  245. empower me, and I need God's word to guide me.

  246. And finally, the third thing I need is I need

  247. God's people to support me. You will not be able

  248. to reach your goals on your own. I haven't been

  249. able to reach my goals on my own. It takes

  250. a team to fulfill a dream. You need other people

  251. in your life. This is why we insist that everybody

  252. in our church family be in a small group. You're

  253. never going to feel like a part of our church

  254. till you're in a small group. A crowd can't support you,

  255. but a small group can three, four, five, six other people.

  256. They can know when you're sick, they can know when

  257. you're having a tough time, when you've had a bad day.

  258. A crowd can't support you, but a community, a small

  259. group can. Ecclesiastes four to twelve says this, By yourself,

  260. you're unprotected. It means it's like an a football game.

  261. You're unprotected. You're out there running down the field by yourself.

  262. You don't have anybody to block and tackle for you.

  263. There's nobody out there to protect you. If you're not

  264. in a small group, you don't have any blocking tacklers.

  265. You don't have anybody who's gonna speak up for you,

  266. stand up for you. By yourself, you're unprotected. But with

  267. a friend, you can face the worst. Boy did I

  268. learn that this last year? And a group of three?

  269. A group of three is even better because a rope

  270. raided with three strands is not easily snapped. What do

  271. you call three people meeting together? A small group? That's

  272. what it is. Jesus said, where two or three are

  273. gathered in my name, I'll be in the midst of them. Hey, guys,

  274. this is going to be fun. But it's going to

  275. be more than fun. It's going to change your life.

  276. If you will do it. If you will hear and

  277. read and watch and talk and do, you will grow.

  278. If all you do is come to church and here,

  279. you're not going to be transformed. I guarantee you you're

  280. gonna be no different in seven weeks. But if you

  281. will hear it and read it and watch it and

  282. discuss it and do it, you will not be the

  283. same person in fifty days. You will be a better person.

  284. Let's power heads, Father. We already know that you're going

  285. to do some amazing things in our midst when we

  286. begin this fifty days of transformation. I know that lives

  287. are going to be changed. We know that families are

  288. going to be strengthened, marriages will be saved, friendships will

  289. be made. You know that some people are going to

  290. get engaged. We know that miracles are going to happen.

  291. It would be a waste of time first to not

  292. expect you to do a great thing. So I already

  293. thank you for what's already happening in the hearts of

  294. peace people and help them to realize they're already a success.

  295. Most of all, I thank you for the Cross, because

  296. we thank you and we do everything we do for

  297. jesus sake. Now you pray, Why don't you pray this? God,

  298. I give you permission to permanently transform my life and

  299. to make the rest of my life the best of

  300. my life. I pray this in Jesus' name. Amen.

  301. This is Pastor Rick's daily Hope. In just a moment,

  302. Rick is going to tell you about a recent one

  303. hundred thousand dollars matching grant from a very generous listener.

  304. But first he's going to share with us how God

  305. has been using your financial gifts to help us share

  306. Christ with people around the world.

  307. Here's Rick, Hi, friends, what did it surprise you to

  308. know that there are entire groups of people who have

  309. never heard of out Jesus still in our world today.

  310. I'm talking about the small tribes of less than a

  311. one hundred thousand people in many, many distant places who

  312. have never heard the name of Jesus Christ. That means

  313. there's not a single Christian among them. There is no church,

  314. they have no Bible, there is no believer. Can you

  315. imagine that? Would you help me reach these unreached, unengaged people.

  316. You know, one of the reasons I started Daily Hope

  317. was to find partners who would help us take the

  318. hope of the good news of the Gospel to the

  319. whole world, to the final frontier, these unreached, unengaged tribes.

  320. Jesus wants us to witness to all nations and to

  321. all people. He never made a person he did in love.

  322. He never made a person he didn't want saved. And

  323. Jesus died so that all may be saved. But people

  324. can't follow Jesus if they've never heard about him, and

  325. they've never heard of God's grace, how can they receive it?

  326. So I'm asking you to help me in this finish

  327. the task project. Thank you for your support. You know,

  328. Daily Hope is now reaching over thirty four million people

  329. each month through Daily Hope audio teachings and our email devotionals.

  330. But we're only able to do this because you have

  331. your partnership with Daily Hope. We're working together to help

  332. us fulfill the great commission. Imagine when you get to heaven,

  333. somebody comes up to you and says, I just want

  334. to thank you. I'm here because you cared enough for

  335. someone like me. You prayed and you gave, and you shared,

  336. and you sacrificed, and I'm in heaven because of you.

  337. Will that be worth it? Even as we rejoice in

  338. the success, we need to remember that there's still billions

  339. of people who need to know Jesus and we got

  340. to keep going. So I'm asking you prayerfully to consider

  341. giving the biggest gift you've ever given, or that you

  342. can give, before the end of this year. As I said,

  343. there's still about three thousand unreached people groups that have

  344. either few or no believers in them. We've been able

  345. to reach about six hundred of those tribes, making sure

  346. there's a Christian living among them who speaks their language

  347. and can help them understand the Bible. But that's just

  348. the first step. The truth is an unreached people group

  349. isn't considered reached until it has a healthy church, a

  350. body of Christ that's able to plant new churches within

  351. that group. So to help that happen, we're working on

  352. translating spiritual growth tools into about two hundred new languages

  353. for people who have virtually no Christian resources available. Think

  354. of all the Christian books you could buy at Christmas

  355. this year, Think of all the books you could pass

  356. on at birthdays. These are so available in English, but

  357. we need to translate them in all the other languages.

  358. These translations are strategic that we've selected once to share

  359. the gospel and to help disciple new believers where it

  360. is most needed right now.

  361. Now.

  362. These resources are also going to help young pastors grow

  363. and train others to build the church in their nations

  364. and in their groups. Now, we made a lot of

  365. good progress, but we got a lot of work ahead

  366. of us in this task. And it is a monumental vision.

  367. I can't do this by myself. I need your help.

  368. It's a timely vision, it's a global vision. But every

  369. vision Listen requires provision. Honestly, we wouldn't be able to

  370. do any of this vision without you, And that's why

  371. I cannot fully express how much I appreciate your financial

  372. support of daily hope. You know I don't take a

  373. salary in this This is all a ministry of love

  374. and all of these funds are going to help reach

  375. more people. Now, let me give you some exciting news.

  376. A generous friend of Daily Hope has offered a one

  377. hundred thousand dollars matching grant so that any gift you

  378. give by December thirty first this year will be doubled

  379. up to one hundred thousand dollars. That means every dollar

  380. you give to Daily Hope between now and the end

  381. of the year will be doubled. Would you please prayerfully

  382. consider how you can give today, how you can reach

  383. more people for Jesus in the coming year. And please,

  384. while you're at it, pray that I will faithfully teach

  385. God's word in a way that will penetrate hearts. Pray

  386. for our Daily Hope team as they coordinate our outreach,

  387. and most of all, pray for the people we're trying

  388. to reach, that their hearts will be prepared to hear

  389. the message of the good News of Christ, and that

  390. they will come to know the grace of God and

  391. grow and mature in their Christian faith. You have a

  392. part of the most important task in history. Now, my

  393. prayer for you is that God's going to bless you

  394. throughout this coming year. And that He will bless you

  395. so much that you can be a blessing to others

  396. blessed to be a blessing. And my prayers that He

  397. will draw you closer and closer to Him. God bless you.

  398. Remember, as Rick just shared, whatever you give today will

  399. be doubled by the matching grant up to one hundred

  400. thousand dollars, but only till midnight December thirty first. Anything

  401. not matched will be lost, So please contact us today

  402. call eight hundred six hundred five thousand and four or

  403. go to Pastorick dot com. That's eight hundred six hundred

  404. five thousand four or pastorick dot com. There are only

  405. three days left to have your gift matched up to

  406. one hundred thousand dollars, so don't wait. Be sure to

  407. join us again next time as we look into God's

  408. word for our daily hope. This program is sponsored by

  409. Pastor Rick's Daily Hope and your generous financial support
