  1. Welcome to Pastor Rick's Daily Hope. Today we embark on

  2. a journey through a powerful series called God's Amazing Promises.

  3. In the upcoming lessons, you'll discover some of the most

  4. profound promises that God has made to you. These promises

  5. are not mere words. They are the keys to a

  6. renewed life, inner peace, and a hopeful future. But before

  7. we get started, we want to let you know that

  8. very generous friends of the ministry are offering a one

  9. hundred thousand dollars matching grant. That means every dollar you

  10. give right now to help Daily Hope share the hope

  11. of Jesus around the world will be matched up to

  12. one hundred thousand dollars, making your gift go twice as far.

  13. You can find out more by going to Pastorick dot

  14. com or by texting the word hope to eight hundred,

  15. six hundred five thousand and four. Right now, here's Pastor

  16. Rick Warren with part one of a message called God's

  17. Promises about giving.

  18. And I want to begin by telling you that the

  19. words promise and promises are actually used over a thousand

  20. times in different English translations of the scripture. One scholar

  21. did a study and he counted over eight thousand different

  22. promises of God in the Bible. The Bible tells us

  23. that God is a promise making and a promise keeping God.

  24. He makes promises in the Bible to literally everybody. Now,

  25. God's promises are like a divine insurance policy. And in

  26. an insurance policy, when you know what's covered, then you

  27. don't sweat it when that circumstance happens in your life

  28. or that illness of that accident. When you know what's

  29. covered in the policy, you relax. On the other hand,

  30. if you don't know what's covered in the insurance policy,

  31. if you're ignorant of it, you worry. And one of

  32. the problems that we have today is people don't know

  33. the promise of God, so they spend a lot of

  34. time worrying. Today, we're going to begin a new series

  35. that I'm calling God's Amazing Promises, and each week We're

  36. going to look at a different set of God's promises

  37. to you. We'll look at promises of God's help, promises

  38. of wisdom, of power, promises of forgiveness and guidance, promises

  39. of salvation and blessing and heaven, promises of guidance, and salvation,

  40. of success, of victory, and many many other benefits. You

  41. can't afford to miss this series on God's Amazing Promises. Now,

  42. I want to begin the series by explaining three fundamental

  43. facts about the promises of God. The first one is this,

  44. God wants me to build my life on his promises.

  45. God doesn't want you to live a life built on

  46. petty rules. He wants you to live a life built

  47. on great promises. And we're going to look at many

  48. of these eight thousand promises in God's Word to you,

  49. God's Insurance Policy to you. Number two. God makes two

  50. kinds of promises in scripture, and we're going to look

  51. at both. First, he makes unconditional promises, and then he

  52. makes conditional promises. The unconditional promises there are no strings attached,

  53. and no matter what you do, when God promises something unconditionally,

  54. it's going to happen. For instance, God has made an

  55. unconditional promise about the second coming of Jesus Christ. It's

  56. not going to be dependent on anything that you or

  57. I do. That's an unconditional promise, and we'll look at

  58. many of those. But God also makes conditional promises, and

  59. these promises are based on your faith and your obedience,

  60. and God says, if you do this, then I will

  61. do this. It's not automatic. These promises aren't automatically yours.

  62. You have to meet a requirement or a circumstance or

  63. a condition. And if you don't meet that requirement and

  64. you forfeit the promise. In other words, there's a premise

  65. to every promise that's conditional, and we'll look at what

  66. some of those conditions are now. The third thing I

  67. want to say about God's promises is that God makes

  68. promises for us for two different reasons. The first reason

  69. God gives us all these eight thousand promises in the

  70. Bible is to teach us to trust Him in difficult times.

  71. To teach us to trust Him in difficult times. The

  72. Bible says in Psalm one nineteen, verse fifty, when I'm hurting,

  73. I find comfort in your promises that lead to life.

  74. You know, if you weren't in ever bad circumstances, you

  75. wouldn't need the promises of God. If everything went great

  76. in your life, you wouldn't need the promises of God.

  77. Psalm one nineteen one fourteen says this you God, You're

  78. my refuge and shield, and your promises are my only

  79. source of hope. So, as I said, if things always

  80. went great in your life, and everything always looked great,

  81. you wouldn't need any promises. It's when the situation looks

  82. hopeless that's when you need a promise of God. It's

  83. when situations seem like they're all falling apart, that's when

  84. you need a promise of God. So God first gives

  85. us promises to help us get us through the tough

  86. times in life, the difficult times, the times when we're hurting,

  87. or it just looks like maybe he's not even around,

  88. we hold on to his promises. The second reason God

  89. gives us promises is to make us more like him.

  90. We've talked about this many times that God's number one

  91. goal in your life is to make you like Jesus.

  92. One of the ways that he does that is through

  93. the promises. In this book. The Bible says that God,

  94. and first excuse me, second Peter, Chapter one, verse four,

  95. God has made great and marvelous promises so that his

  96. nature would become part of us. Look at that verse again.

  97. God has made great and marvelous promises. Okay, all of

  98. these promises are in the Bible, so that here's the

  99. reason his nature would become part of us. The more

  100. you trust in God's promises, the more it's going to

  101. change your life. That's where we're going to do the

  102. series on God's amazing promises. You grow more like Jesus

  103. through God's promises. In fact, I'll just be real, Frank,

  104. you can't become like Jesus without trusting God's promises. The

  105. Bible tells us that God works in our lives through promises. Now,

  106. let me give you a quiz. Can you guess what

  107. subject in the Bible God makes more promises about than

  108. anything else? Can you guess what subject in the Bible

  109. God makes more promises about than anything else. It's not faith,

  110. it's not prayer, it's not love, it's not patience. It

  111. may surprise you that God makes more promises in the

  112. Bible about generosity or giving than anything else.

  113. You're listening to Pastor Rick's Daily Hope. Rick will be

  114. back in just a moment with the rest of today's lesson.

  117. Every year, people tell us how much they benefit from

  118. the Bible verses found in the Daily Hope prayer Journal.

  119. So for the very first time, Pastor Rick created a

  120. special scripture card said with fifty two life changing verses

  121. found in this year's prayer Journal. These verses will encourage

  122. you in difficult times and help you experience the piece

  123. you can only find in Jesus. This set of beautifully

  124. designed cards will help you a scripture so you can

  125. recall God's word when you need it most. You can

  126. also use them to minister to others. Give one to

  127. a friend and write a personalized note of encouragement on

  128. the back. If a scripture really speaks to you, frame it,

  129. put them in places where you can read them during

  130. the day for encouragement. And today, when you give a

  131. gift to help Daily Hope take the Hope of Jesus

  132. to a world in need, we'll send you the Experiencing

  133. God's Peace Scripture Card set to say thanks. Visit Pastororck

  134. dot com or call eight hundred six hundred five zero

  135. zero four to get your copy of Experiencing God's Peace

  136. Scripture Card set. And all this month, any gift you

  137. give will be matched by very generous friends up to

  138. one hundred thousand dollars. There's only three days left to

  139. have your gift matched and receive your Experiencing God's Peace

  140. scripture card set, So please contact us right away again,

  141. that's Pastorick dot com or call eight hundred six hundred

  142. five zero zero four. Thank you so much for your support,

  143. and don't forget to mention that you heard Daily Hope

  144. on the radio.

  145. Now back to more from God's Word with Pastor Rick Warren.

  146. God makes more promises in the Bible about generosity or

  147. giving than anything else. Why is that? Why does God

  148. make more promises about being generous and being giving? Well,

  149. there's a couple of reasons. First, because God is generous

  150. and he wants us to become like him. God wants

  151. his children to take on his qualities. Everything we have

  152. in life is because of the generosity and grace and

  153. giving of God. In John Chapter one, verse sixteen, I

  154. love this In the message prayer phrase look up on

  155. the screen, it says we live off his generous bounty.

  156. Gift after gift after gift. Everything you and I have

  157. in life is because of God's generosity. So God just

  158. wants us to become like him. He wants his children

  159. to be like father, like son, like father like daughter.

  160. Second reason God wants us to learn generosity is because

  161. giving is hard. And the reason giving is hard is

  162. because it challenges our selfishness. I don't want to give

  163. anything to anybody else or to God. I want to

  164. spend it all on me, So it's hard. So God

  165. gives rewards for us learning to be like him. God

  166. is a generous God. Everything you have in life is

  167. because of the generosity of God, and he wants us

  168. to become like him. So to kick off this series

  169. on God's amazing promises, We're going to start with the

  170. most frequent promises in the Bible, the promises about generosity.

  171. In fact, there are so many of them we couldn't

  172. possibly cover the hundreds and hundreds of promises about this.

  173. So I've just picked out nine categories. That's all we

  174. have time for. We're gonna have to go through this

  175. fairly quickly anyway, But let me give you nine rewards

  176. that God promises to me and promises to you if

  177. we learn to be generous with our money. All right,

  178. let's look at nine different rewards that God promises to

  179. us if we learn to be generous with our money.

  180. As I said, I could give you hundreds of promises

  181. about generosity, but we only have time for these nine.

  182. We're going to go through the pretty quickly, all right,

  183. So write these down fast. Number one, God promises good

  184. things will happen to me when I'm generous. When I

  185. learned to give like God gives. God promises that good

  186. things will happen to me. Psalm one twelve, verse five

  187. says good will come to him who is generous. Good

  188. good things come to him who is generous. Proverbs twenty two,

  189. verse nine, Generous people will be blessed. That's a promise

  190. of God. So if you want God's blessing in your life,

  191. and you want God's goodness in your life, and you

  192. want good things to happen to you, the Bible says

  193. giving generosity unlocks the key. God promises that good things

  194. will happen to me when I'm generous. Number two, God

  195. promises my children will be blessed if I learned how

  196. to give like God gives. That's covered in Psalm thirty seven,

  197. verse twenty six. It says they're in the NIV translation,

  198. the Godly are always generous. That's a mark of Godliness.

  199. If you're not generous, you're not Godly Because God is generous.

  200. The Godly are always generous, and notice their children will

  201. be blessed. I want you to notice that when you

  202. learn to be generous, when you learn to be to

  203. give the way, God gives that blessing. Not only blesses you.

  204. Now good comes into your life, but God that says

  205. it gets passed on to the next generation. Now, do

  206. you want your kids to be blessed by God? Do

  207. you want the next generation in your family to be blessed?

  208. Then you need to learn how to be generous. I'm

  209. expecting God's blessing on my kids and on my grandkids

  210. because Kay and I have been generous all of our lives.

  211. We learn generosity early on. God says, I will bless

  212. your kids if you are generous. Third promise of God.

  213. God promises he will bless my work and my business

  214. if I learned to be generous, not just my family,

  215. but also my business. Let me show you a couple

  216. of verses about this. Proverbs three, verse nine says, this

  217. honor the Lord by giving him the first part of

  218. all your income. We honor God by giving him the

  219. first part of all our income. That's called tithing. We'll

  220. talk about that later. But he says, then that was

  221. the premise. Here's the promise. Then your barns will be

  222. filled to overflowing, and your vats will overflow with the

  223. finest wines. Now, I doubt any of you have a

  224. barn to fill or vats to fill with the finest wine.

  225. But let's put this in a cultural context. In the

  226. Bible times, everybody was a farmer. Almost everybody was farmer.

  227. So when you looked inside a person's barn and you

  228. looked inside their vats, that represented their business, it represented

  229. their investments, it represented their livelihood. And what God is

  230. saying here is if you learn to be generous. God says,

  231. I will bless your business. I will bless your work,

  232. I will bless your career, I will bless your investments.

  233. I will bless how you make a living. A verse

  234. that goes right along with that, as Proverbs eleven twenty

  235. five that says a generous man will prosper, will prosper.

  236. A generous man will prosper. And he who refreshes others

  237. will himself be refreshed. Question, those of you who have

  238. your own business or your own store or your own shop.

  239. Do you want your career your business to prosper well,

  240. of course you do. Do you want your business to

  241. be more profitable? Of course you do. Well. If you

  242. want God's help in your business, not just your family,

  243. but in your business, you have to fulfill the premise

  244. of his promise. And God says, the person who is

  245. generous will profit, will be blessed in what he does.

  246. Let me show you another verse here on the screen, Deuteronomy,

  247. chapter fifteen, verse ten. I love this in the message,

  248. it says this, give freely and give spontaneously. Okay, that's

  249. the premise. Don't have a stingy heart. The way you

  250. handle matters like this triggers God's blessing. Look at that

  251. on the screen. The way you handle matter if you're

  252. generous with your money, you're not a stingy art. It

  253. triggers God's blessing in everything you do, in all your work,

  254. that's your job, that's your business, and ventures. Some of

  255. you are venture capitalists, some of you are serial entrepreneurs.

  256. Do you want God's blessing to be triggered in your work,

  257. in your ventures, in everything you do?

  258. Well?

  259. The Bible says generosity triggers God's blessing on your work.

  260. These are amazing promises. God says good will come to you.

  261. Your kids will be blessed, and your work, your career,

  262. your job will be blessed. Generosity triggers God's blessing on

  263. your job. Let me give you a fourth promise. God's

  264. promises that if I learned to give like he does,

  265. I'll be happier. Now, everybody knows this except people with

  266. the stingy heart. You already know this already, Sesus said

  267. in Acts, chapter twenty, verse thirty five. Paul R. Lucas

  268. talking here, and he says, remember the words of our

  269. Lord Jesus himself, who said there is more happiness in

  270. giving than in receiving. You know, when I was a

  271. little kid, I honestly didn't believe that verse because I'd

  272. rather get Christmas gifts when I was a little kid

  273. than when I was older. I didn't want to give him.

  274. I wanted to get them. But that's a mark of maturity,

  275. and maturity comes when you realize that they're actually more

  276. happiness in giving than in receiving. So here's the fourth promise.

  277. If you learn to give generously, God says, you'll be happier.

  278. You'll be happier you get your your business blessed, you

  279. get your family blessed, your children blessed, and you get blessed.

  280. Good will come to your life. Number five, God promises

  281. that if I learned to give like he does generously,

  282. my influence will increase. My influence will increase. Here's another promise,

  283. Proverbs eleven twenty four. The message says this, the world

  284. of the generous gets larger and larger, the world of

  285. the stingy gets smaller and smaller. If you want your

  286. world to get larger, learn to be generous. If you

  287. want your world to get smaller and more compact and harder,

  288. heart and build walls around you and just be a

  289. stingy person. But if you learn to be generous, the

  290. Bible says, the more generous you are, the larger and

  291. larger your world will get. I could give a personal

  292. testimony about this one, how that God teaching me generosity

  293. in my life actually expanded my influence into areas I

  294. never ever thought would be possible, into fields and into

  295. countries and around the world, simply because I was faithful

  296. in little things. Then God gave me more, and I

  297. was faithful in that God gave me more, and I

  298. was generous with that and more and more. And I

  299. could tell your personal you a personal testimony that this

  300. promise is true. Your world expands the more generous you become.

  301. All right. Number six, God promises that if I learned

  302. to give like he gives, and if I learn to

  303. be generous, I will end up with more. This is

  304. part of the economy of God. Now, we don't give

  305. to get. I don't give to get a blessing. I

  306. actually give to be a blessing. But the truth is

  307. you can't outgive God. And God plays this little game

  308. and says, let's see who who can outgive the other person.

  309. You give to me, and I'll give to you, and

  310. you give to other people and I'll give you, and

  311. we'll see who wins. God says, I promise you, and

  312. he says this over and over and over in scripture,

  313. that I will end up with more if I learned

  314. to be generous. Let me show you some verses Luke six,

  315. verse thirty eight. These are the words of Jesus himself.

  316. Jesus says, give and it will be given back to you.

  317. And notice in full measure. You don't get a little back,

  318. you get it all back and more given. It will

  319. be given back to you in full measure. God's gonna

  320. make sure he out gives you given. It will be

  321. given to you in full measure, and what you receive

  322. will need to be pressed down and shaken together. What's

  323. that talking about. Well, let's say if you're getting grained

  324. and people are pouring grain in your sack, and you've

  325. paid for a whole sack, you're gonna shake it like this,

  326. and then you're gonna press it down so you can

  327. get the maximum amount of grain or coins or anything

  328. else into that sack. And he's saying, God wants to

  329. give you so much, you have to press it down.

  330. You have to shake it together to make more room,

  331. because God wants to give you more than your sack

  332. can hold.

  333. Thank you so much for listening to Pastor Rick's Daily Hope.

  352. Here's Pastor Rick with a letter from one of our listeners.

  353. Friends. I love it when you write me, and today

  354. I want to take a moment and share an encouraging

  355. letter from a woman named Tara. She's a listener from

  356. Georgia who says putting God first every morning has changed

  357. her life. Here's what she wrote, Dear Pastor Rick, I'd

  358. like to thank you for your daily Hope messages. I

  359. was going through a lot of depression and I was

  360. actually hating myself. I had no motivation to do anything

  361. but go to work and take care of my husband.

  362. Then one day I decided to start my mornings with

  363. a daily Hope devotional, putting God first before my day began.

  364. Your teachings about putting God first at the first part

  365. of every day are so true. My thought processes are

  366. better now. I'm changing to habits that are healthier for me.

  367. But I know that if it wasn't for the Daily

  368. Hope teaching me about God's Word, I'd still be lost.

  369. So I want to thank God for you. I know

  370. my gift I sent wasn't much, but it came from

  371. my heart and I'll continue to pray for you and

  372. the broadcast and your family. Well, Tara, I'm so sorry

  373. that you've had to struggle with depression. I've struggled with

  374. depression myself, so I'm encouraged to hear that you're starting

  375. each day with God's Word because that's the only place

  376. that we can find lasting hope. And by the way,

  377. thanks for your gift doesn't matter what size it is.

  378. It's generosity just like yours that helps us reach more

  379. people with the joy and the promise and the grace

  380. of God. Somebody's donation allowed us to bless you with

  381. the teaching from Daily Hope, and now your donation is

  382. going to bless others who need to know more about

  383. the love and grace and mercy of Jesus Christ. Thanks

  384. for writing, Tara.

  385. Any gift you give will be matched by very generous

  386. friends up to one hundred thousand dollars. This matching grant

  387. is only available until midnight on December thirty first, so

  388. please contact us today. You can give right now by

  389. going to Pastorick dot com or by calling eight hundred

  390. six hundred five thousand and four. We'll say thanks by

  391. sending you the brand new Experiencing God's Peace scripture card set.

  392. That's Pastorrick dot com or call eight hundred six hundred

  393. five thousand and four, and thanks so much for your support,

  394. and don't forget to mention that you heard Daily Hope

  395. on the radio. Be sure to join us next time

  396. as we look into God's word for our daily hope.

  397. This program is sponsored by Pastor Rick's daily hope and

  398. your generous financial support
