  1. Hello everybody. This is Pastor Rick's Daily Hope with Rick Warren.

  2. I'm really glad you're here.

  3. Today.

  4. We're continuing our series from Psalm twenty three called Living

  5. in the Goodness of God. It's all about how God's

  6. goodness meets you right where you are and brings hope

  7. even in difficult seasons. In this message today you'll hear

  8. part two, called Heaven, God's eternal goodness to you.

  9. Now, the next question I want to look at is

  10. how is Heaven different from Earth? And of course it's very,

  11. very different. And as I shared it with you in

  12. the previous message, look at this verse on your outline. First,

  13. Corinthians two nine says this no eye has ever seen,

  14. and no ear has ever heard, and no mind has

  15. ever even imagined what God has prepared for those who

  16. love him. So you think up the coolest thing you

  17. could experience a life, the most pleasurable, the most beautiful,

  18. the most tasty, the most incredibly enriching experience in life.

  19. And God says Heaven is better than that. Nobody has

  20. even imagined. How cool, how great, how beautiful, how amazing,

  21. how pleasurable it's going to be to live in heaven.

  22. The reason why most people don't want to go to

  23. heaven is because, as I said, everything you've learned about

  24. heaven is wrong. Every movie generally makes Heaven totally white.

  25. Why would a god who invented color make heaven all white?

  26. Okay, and you.

  27. Got fog at your feet about a foot deep, Okay,

  28. so you can't see your feet. You're walking around in

  29. fog the whole time, totally white, wearing a white you

  30. know robe. You may have wings, which is not what

  31. you're going to have. You're not gonna be an angel

  32. in heaven. We talked about that last week.

  33. And you're playing a harp. That would be hell to me.

  34. And if that's what heaven is like, I would say, no,

  35. thank you God. I think I'd rather just stay here

  36. with the surf and the sunsets, because this is a

  37. broken world, but.

  38. It's still pretty beautiful.

  39. Heaven is in no way going to be like anything

  40. you've ever seen on a movie. The Bible says, you

  41. can't even imagine. So I can't really explain it because

  42. we don't have the capacity. But what I can do,

  43. it's actually easier to tell you what's not going to

  44. be in heaven, and that is a big deal because

  45. when you know what's not going to be in heaven,

  46. that makes.

  47. A cool place too.

  48. You see, you know what's here on earth, and there's

  49. a lot of stuff here on earth that you don't like,

  50. and it's not going to be in heaven. Now, there's

  51. a lot of verses on this in the Bible. Let

  52. me just show you a couple. John who's one of

  53. the twelve people who followed Jesus, originally the Disciples, and

  54. he's an old man. God gives him a glimpse of

  55. heaven and he writes a book. It's the last book

  56. in the Bible called the Revelation, not revelations, not plural,

  57. it's the Book of the Revelation. It's a single vision.

  58. And let me just show you a couple of examples that.

  59. In Revelation twenty one, verses twenty two to verse twenty seven,

  60. John mentions nine things that aren't going to be in heaven.

  61. Look at this, you know what it says.

  62. In verse chapter twenty one Revelation, he says, there's no

  63. temple there in heaven. There's no temple? Why don't need it?

  64. God's everywhere in heaven. Why would we need a special

  65. building to go and meet and with him and pray

  66. with me.

  67. Anybody can talk to him any time.

  68. He's all over. There's no temple in heaven. The Bible

  69. says there's no sun or moon in heaven. They're unnecessary

  70. because God's glory shines bright and lights up everything. So

  71. he's the powerhouse. There's no sun, no moon in heaven.

  72. And it says there are no shut gates in heaven.

  73. Why no crime, there's no need to Nobody has to

  74. shut a gate, nobody has to lock it. There are

  75. no keys in heaven. Why because nobody locks anything in heaven.

  76. Why because nobody commits crimes in heaven. So they said

  77. there's no gates. Gates are built for protection. You don't

  78. need any protection in heaven. You don't need a key.

  79. Nothing is locked in heaven because there's no no sin there.

  80. There's no no no shut gates. Then it says there's

  81. no night there in heaven. There's no night. You don't

  82. need it. Why, well, you don't get tired in heaven.

  83. For one thing, you don't get tired. And second, God's glory,

  84. his brightness shines for you know, everywhere. Then it says

  85. there's nothing impure or unclean in heaven. So everything is pure.

  86. You got pure water, you got pure air, your body

  87. is pure, everything pure. Everything is clean. For some of you,

  88. that would be heaven. Nothing dirty in heaven. Now some people,

  89. I don't care if it's dirty or not. You know,

  90. I don't mind dirt. But some of you, you're kind

  91. of neat Nixon. There's nothing unclean in heaven. Everything's clean there.

  92. It's pure, it's clean. There's no immorality in heaven, which

  93. is why some people probably don't want to go to heaven. Okay,

  94. because there's no immorality in heaven, all right, But here's

  95. a big one.

  96. No shame in heaven.

  97. Can you imagine living for the rest of your life

  98. with not ever feeling shame? How great that would be.

  99. No guilt, no regrets, no shame. The Bible says that

  100. heaven is a shame free zone, that that emotion is

  101. not even existent.

  102. In heaven.

  103. No one ever feels ashamed of anything, Nobody ever feels

  104. inferior in anything, nobody ever feels insecure in anything, nobody

  105. ever feels shame of any in heaven. That's going to

  106. be the environment living in the love of God. There's

  107. no shame in heaven, and the Bible says there's no

  108. deceit in heaven. Everybody tells the truth. You can't tell

  109. a lie. There's no possibility for a lie in heaven

  110. because Jesus said I Am the Truth, and his followers

  111. walk in truth. There are no lies, no deceit in heaven.

  112. So somebody tells you something in heaven, you know it's

  113. truth because there's no lying in heaven. Nothing's there. And

  114. then it says only people whose names are written in

  115. the Lamb's Book of Life are there. That means it's reserved.

  116. It's reserved for God's children. Everybody is created by God

  117. and everybody is loved by God, but not everybody is

  118. a child of God. You have to ask to get

  119. into God's family. How'd you get in your family? There's

  120. only two ways to get in a family, be born

  121. into it or be adopted into it, and both of

  122. those terms are used in the Bible. It's called being

  123. born again into the family of God and being adopted

  124. in the family of God.

  125. When you stepped across the line and put.

  126. Your faith in Christ, you were adopted into the family

  127. of God and you were born again.

  128. Into the family.

  129. God, both of those metaphors are.

  130. True in your life.

  131. And so he says, the people who are in the

  132. name Lamb's Book of Life, they're there.

  133. Now.

  134. How is heaven different, Well, as he said, it's the

  135. stuff that's not there. Let me show you another verse

  136. in the same chapter, Revelation twenty one, verse four, it

  137. gives us three or four other things that won't be

  138. in heaven. It says God will wipe away all tears

  139. from their eyes, So no tears in heaven, and there

  140. shall be no more death in heaven. There will be

  141. no more sorrow in heaven. There will be no more

  142. crying in heaven, and there will be no more pain

  143. in heaven. All of that has gone forever.

  144. Wow, I'm in. I'm in.

  145. I want to be in a place for return where

  146. there's no more pain, no more sorrow, no more death,

  147. no more crying. That is the goodness of God. Why

  148. is there pain and death and sorrow and crying here

  149. because we don't follow God the way we should. Here,

  150. we follow our own things. We hurt each other, We

  151. hurt ourselves by making dumb decisions. You get hurt unintentionally

  152. and intentionally you get hurt by other people's decisions. Then

  153. there is sorrow. There is death the way this sin

  154. is death here. But when Christ has paid for all

  155. your sins, there's no more death. Nobody's ever going to

  156. die in heaven. There will never be a funeral in heaven.

  157. There's no sorrow.

  158. There's no grief in heaven because there's no loss in heaven.

  159. There's no crying in heaven. This is the place you

  160. want to be for eternity. This is the place where

  161. and if you've lived a life of chronic pain, and

  162. some of you have lived in chronic pain for years

  163. or maybe your entire life, Heaven's going to be a

  164. great relief to you because there's no pain, no pain

  165. in heaven. Now this is all through scripture. I want

  166. to encourage you to do your own study on this.

  167. If you were to look up the phrase no more,

  168. and look up the phrase no longer and study that

  169. through the Bible, you would find a list of many, many,

  170. many things that are not going to be in heaven.

  171. The Bible actually says no gloom in heaven, says no

  172. terrorist in heaven.

  173. Yeah says it.

  174. A lot of other things that it says that won't

  175. be there in heaven because it's a perfect place.

  176. So we know that.

  177. God has planned a beautiful place for us forever. Now

  178. you know, last week I gave you a gratitude list,

  179. and I did a thing called from A to the

  180. God's Goodness to Me, and I just took letters and

  181. I said, here twenty six different ways that God has

  182. been good you. This week, I made another gratitude list.

  183. And what it is. Things I'm grateful won't be in heaven.

  184. So I just thought i'd read them to you from

  185. A to Z. Things I'm glad and grateful won't be

  186. in heaven. A. Accidents, aches, anxiety, acme and ants.

  187. Won't be in heaven.

  188. B bullies, broken hearts, bad hair days none in heaven. Baldness,

  189. I'll throw that one into Okay, okay, c in heaven.

  190. No cancer, no crime, no car trouble, no cavities, no cellulite,

  191. d no dead ends in heaven. No delays, no dirty dishes,

  192. no diapers, no dementia. Everybody's going to be sharp in heaven.

  193. E No earthquakes or errors, no failures, no garbage, no hunger,

  194. no irritations, insecurities, injustice or indigestion. None of that'll be

  195. in heaven. No Jay, no June gloom in heaven. No

  196. keys to misplaced because you don't need any keys where

  197. nothing is locked. Hell, No lawyers in heaven. Now I'm

  198. not picking on lawyers, but the Bible says there won't

  199. be any preachers in heaven either, because they're not gonna

  200. need them, and there won't be any police in heaven,

  201. and a lot of us are gonna have to get

  202. new careers. In fact, the only career that we actually

  203. know will continue for certain will be worship leaders because

  204. we're gonna worship in heaven. So if you're a worship leader,

  205. you got job security. But if you're a nurse, start

  206. looking for another job, because we don't need any nurses

  207. in heaven because aren't any hospitals in heaven. Okay, m

  208. No misunderstandings or miscommunication or mosquitoes. Can't you imagine being

  209. able to have a conversation with somebody the opposite sex

  210. in heaven and they actually understood you. That would be heaven.

  211. But I thought you meant you're gonna get it right

  212. off the bat. There will be no misspcommunication, no misunderstandings,

  213. which means no conflict okay, in nose hair not in heaven,

  214. old age p. There will be no prejudice heaven. No

  215. political campaigns that would be worth it just to go

  216. to heaven for that one. Okay, no political campaigns, man,

  217. I'm ready to go now for that one. No quarrels are,

  218. no racism, no refugee camps, no receding hairlines.

  219. S this is a big one. No sales calls that

  220. would be rest.

  221. That would be peace of mind, not having somebody call

  222. you and try to take a survey tea, no traffic

  223. and most of all, no taxes in heaven.

  224. Okay, w no worry or wars or weeds, not.

  225. To pull any weeds in heaven. And the x Y

  226. s id in writing down You can make those up yourself.

  227. But the bottom line is we know that heaven is

  228. gonna what is gonna be great for what will not

  229. be there, as well as the stuff that we don't

  230. understand will be there because we're not capable of understanding

  231. those dimensions.

  232. As I mentioned last week, we.

  233. Live in a world that that's three dimensional, but Einstein

  234. proved that there are many other dimensions that we don't

  235. even understand. And there's a time space continuum in the

  236. way things warp, and other dimensions that we're we're just

  237. barely beginning to understand. So God can be multi dimensional

  238. in ways we're not even aware of in in heaven.

  239. All right, So that's an important thing. Now, what are

  240. we going to do in heaven? That's a big one.

  241. That's a big question because a lot of people they

  242. are like you know, when people write put on the tombstones,

  243. they write R I p rest in peace.

  244. In heaven.

  245. Okay, okay, yeah, well I'd like to rest maybe for

  246. a few weeks. But do I want to rest for

  247. all of eternity. No, You're not gonna rest for all

  248. of eternity in heaven. God did not create you just

  249. for a permanent retirement to veg out and do nothing.

  250. So there will be interesting things to do. And let

  251. me give you first place. What what are we gonna

  252. do in heaven? Well, a lot of the stuff you

  253. can do here on earth, you're gonna be able to

  254. do in heaven. You'll be able to eat in heaven,

  255. but not gain weight. Uh, you're gonna be able to

  256. sleep in heaven. You're gonna be you party in heaven.

  257. You can obviously breathe, you can talk, you can fellowship.

  258. There are a lot of stuff you do now. You

  259. can relax in heaven. You can pray, you can sing.

  260. We know that God created you on earth for five

  261. purposes and all and four of those five you're gonna

  262. do in heaven.

  263. Uh.

  264. You're going to worship God. You're gonna love him and

  265. worship him. You're going to fellowship with other believers. That's

  266. all it's going to be there.

  267. You're going to.

  268. Serve God with your giftedness. You're going to grow. You're

  269. not going to stay the same in heaven. The only

  270. thing you're not going to do in heaven is talk

  271. to unbelievers about the Lord, your mission, your witness, your evangelism. Why,

  272. because there aren't any there. Have you ever thought about

  273. this that there are only two things that you can't

  274. do in heaven that you can do on earth. Only two.

  275. Everything else you can do in heaven that you're doing

  276. here on earth. In heaven, you can't sin, there's no

  277. sin in heaven. You won't be able to do that.

  278. And second, you can't witness to a non believer, tell

  279. somebody the good news about Christ, love and forgiveness because

  280. they're not any there. So if God leaves you here

  281. on earth, have you ever thought, why does God leave

  282. me here on earth? Once I step across the line,

  283. once I become a believer, Why doesn't God just kill

  284. me and take me instantly to heaven Because it's.

  285. A whole lot cooler there than here.

  286. Why does God leave me in a place of sorrow, suffering, sadness, sickness,

  287. you know, stress, problems, pressures, troubles, temptations, stress, and all

  288. of the other things that happen in life.

  289. Why doesn't God just.

  290. If he knows I'm I'm in the family, my name's

  291. in the Book of Life, why didn't he just take me? Well,

  292. as I said, there are only two things you can't

  293. do in heaven. Now, He could leave you here for

  294. those two things. One, he could leave you here so

  295. you could sin, I don't think so. Or he could

  296. leave you here to tell other people about him. Which

  297. of those two do you think God left you here

  298. to do? He wants you to pass it on. The

  299. only reason you're going to heaven is because somebody told you.

  300. Have you told anybody? Is anybody going to heaven because

  301. of you? Have you shared the good news with anybody else.

  302. If you have no intention of ever telling anybody the

  303. good news, how to get Kevin, or even how to

  304. come to church and find out about it, well, why

  305. didn't God just take you on now? And so you

  306. spare you all with the suffering and the sorrow and

  307. the sadness, and you know, and the sickness and all

  308. of that kind of stuff. So he leaves you here

  309. to tell others.

  310. Hey, thanks so much for listening to today's show. Rick

  311. wants to encourage you with a closing thought.

  312. God has five purposes for your life. He wants you

  313. to know and love Him. That's called worship. He wants

  314. you to belong to his family that's called fellowship. He

  315. wants you to grow in him. That's called discipleship. He

  316. wants you to serve Him with your gifts and talents.

  317. That's your ministry. And he wants you to share the

  318. good news with other people. That's your mission. Now today,

  319. as we close, I want to talk to you about

  320. the third purpose, discipleship or personal growth. How do we

  321. grow Well, we grow through the nourishment of God's Word.

  322. It's how we get to know God. To know God's

  323. word is to know God's will. God's Word is the

  324. source of God's will, and God's ultimate goal for your

  325. life is for you to become like Jesus Christ. To

  326. do that, you have to fill your life with the

  327. word of Jesus Christ. Two Timothy three seventeen says through

  328. the Word, we're put together and shaped for the tasks

  329. that God asked for us. I remember in the Old Testament,

  330. the Bible says that Job treasured God's word more than

  331. his daily bread. That's how I want you to treat

  332. God's Word. That's how you grow in discipleship. Get into

  333. his word every day, study it, memorize it, and meditate

  334. on it.

  335. Apply it. Never take it for granted.

  336. God's word is as essential to your soul as food

  337. is to your body.

  338. So get into the Word today. God bless you.

  339. Be sure to join us next time as we look

  340. into God's Word for our daily hope. This program is
