Luke chapter number one, I've titled this message Magnifying a Mother's Heart.

Magnifying a Mother's Heart.

And I got to thinking about Mary.

I got to thinking about how she became a mom by the sovereignty of God.

And in Luke chapter number one, verse number twenty six, the Bible says, In the sixth month, the angel Gabriel was sent from God unto the city of Galilee, named Nazareth, to a virgin espoused to a man whose name was Joseph of the house of David.

And the virgin's name was Mary.

And the angel came in unto her and said, Hail, thou that art highly favored, the Lord is with thee.

Blessed art thou among women.

And when she saw him, she was troubled at his saying, and cast in her mind what manner of salutation this should be.

And the angel said unto her, Fear not, Mary, for thou hast found favor with God.

And behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name Jesus.

And he shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest, and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father David, and he shall reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of his kingdom there shall be no end.

Then said Mary unto the angel, How shall this be seeing, I know not a man?

And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the highest shall overshadow thee.

Therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God.

And behold, thy cousin Elizabeth, she shall, she hath also conceived a son in her old age, and this is the sixth month with her, who is called barren.

Read verse 37 with me, would you ready?

Begin.

For with God nothing shall be impossible.

And so Mary hears the news, and she says in verse 38, Behold, the handmaid of the Lord, be it unto me according to thy word.

Look at the humility, the reception.

And the angel departed.

Mary hears this news and she responds with praise and power and glory to God.

In fact, in verse 46, the Bible says this Mary said, My soul doth magnify the Lord, and my spirit hath rejoiced in God my Savior, for he hath regarded the lowest state of his handmaiden.

For behold, from henceforth all generations shall call me blessed.

For he that is mighty hath done to me great things, and holy is his name, and his mercy is on them that fear him from generation to generation, and he hath showed strength with his arm, he hath scattered the proud in the imagination of their hearts, he hath put down the mighty from their seats and exalted them of low degree.

He hath filled the hungry with good things, and the rich he hath sent empty away.

He hath hope in his servant Israel in remembrance of his mercy.

He spake to our fathers, Abraham, and to his seed forever.

And Mary abode with her about three months.

We can see Mary just is testifying to the glory of God.

And I got to thinking about a mother's heart.

I got to thinking about Mary here.

And if you want to take some notes as we look at the beauty of a mother's heart, we see number one, humility.

Oh, her heart is one of reception, a modest and low view of oneself and their own importance with meekness.

Mary did not boast of her role.

She didn't ask why me.

She said, Be it unto me according to thy word.

Her humility opened the door for God to work through her.

She says, You've regarded the low estate of your handmaiden.

And I want to remind you, God still resists the proud, but he gives grace to the humble.

She is a humble woman.

In fact, in Philippians it says, in lowliness of mind, we're to esteem others better than ourselves.

When I look at this mother's heart, I get to see Mary teaches mothers today, true greatness begins in quiet surrender.

She simply just receives that with gratitude.

Number two, I see the hallelujah spirit.

I mean, she just reacts with praise and glory to God.

She says, she says in verse 46, My soul doth magnify the Lord, and my spirit rejoiced in God my Savior.

Nothing's better than a singing mama.

Amen.

A mama that's just full of God, full of praise, full of glory, full of grace, full of goodness.

And that's what she's doing.

She's full of thankfulness.

This conscious benefit received is expressed in gratitude.

Mary is erupting with praise.

Even while young and uncertain and likely afraid, she chose to praise.

And I'm glad today to be with some moms that praise God.

I'm glad to be in a church full of moms that love Jesus and love their family.

And yes, life can be hard, life can be challenging, yes, there's setbacks, yes, there's people that walk away from us.

But praise be to God that He chooses us and encourages us and we get to praise Him.

I love what the psalmist says in Psalm 34, verse 1.

Psalms 34:1

I will bless the Lord at all times, his praise shall continually be in my mouth.

Her thankfulness teaches us that gratitude isn't circumstantial, it's spiritual.

A godly mother teaches her children how to praise God in every season.

We get to see the hallelujah spirit coming out of Mary.

Then we see number three, the hope that she has.

Oh, she has all kinds of hope inside of her.

You know, she she received this news with gratitude and gratitude and gladness and her spirit is is praising God, and she's full of hope.

The Bible says in Luke 2, verse 19 that Mary kept all these things and pondered them in her heart.

Mary knew that Jesus is God Almighty.

She knew that Jesus is the Son of God.

She knew that he would die for the sins of mankind.

And it's just like a faithful mama with hope and expectation.

In John chapter 2, when they had no wine at the wedding of Cana in Galilee, she goes to Jesus and says, Hey, son, they have no wine.

And Jesus says, Well, mine hour has not yet come.

And then she turns to her servants and turns to everybody else and says to the servants, Whatsoever he saith to you, do it.

And of course, we know the story in John chapter number two.

He tells those servants to fill the water pots up with water.

He goes on and he and he turns the water into wine.

It's because of a good mama encouraging him.

It's time, let's go, son, for such a reason, for such a time as this, let's go.

It's time to activate the power of God.

And we know it sets his ministry up for advancement.

You think about every single one of us in here today.

We're here today because of our mother.

We're here today because of a mama.

She birthed us, she she had us in the womb, and and and she brought forth, God chose to bring forth life in that mother.

And praise be to God for that.

And some of us, maybe we didn't grow up with a biological mom.

Maybe we had a mama that that wasn't our biological mom, but she helped us, she encouraged us, she fostered us, she she developed us, and then she said, Go forth.

I've got hope in you.

I want to encourage you.

And listen, I no matter whether your mom's still around today, or maybe she's gone, or you had a foster mom or a fill-in mom or a stepmom, listen, thanks be to God that you had a lady in your life that encouraged you, that gave you some hope, gave you some love, gave you some comfort.

You say, Do you see that, Mary?

Oh, yeah, I see that, Mary.

A confident expectation of what God has promised.

See, Mary didn't understand everything, but she trusted God's plan.

She pondered, she didn't panic, she waited, she didn't worry, she trusted in the Lord.

And I want to remind you still today, you may not know what God's plan is for your life.

And when you can't see his hand, you're to trust his heart.

In Isaiah 40, verse 31, it says, They that wait upon the Lord, they shall renew their strength.

Isaiah 40:31

How many of y'all need your strength renewed today?

You need your cup filled up today.

God can still do that inside of us.

Wait on the Lord.

Mary models the quiet endurance that often defines a mother's faith.

Believing in what is unseen, praying over what is not yet.

She encouraged Jesus to act when the time was right.

Thanks be to God for the moms in our life who have hope in us.

They gave us some hope.

They said, Hey, you can do it.

Go ahead, go for it, go into that sport, go into that class, go into that church, go for it.

I believe in you.

Hey, turn to your neighbor and say, I believe in you.

I believe in you.

That's hope.

That's hope.

That's encouragement.

We get to see that that Mary had humility, she had that hallelujah spirit, she had hope.

But then finally, number four, she had this helping spirit.

She was a helper.

She was there with Jesus, she ministered unto him.

In Luke chapter 2, she took him to the temple, if you would, with Joseph, and she was a great help.

How many of y'all got some ladies in your life, some mamas in your life?

They're a help to you.

They're an encouragement to you, they're a support to you.

Thanks be to God for that.

Even when Jesus was on the cross, guess who was there in his suffering?

His mama was right there.

Hey, who was there for you when you were in the hospital, when you were sick, when you were down, when you were out?

I'm telling you.

Mary was there for her boy, even though she knew he was gonna pay the ultimate price.

The Bible says, now there stood by the cross of Jesus his mother.

Thank God for mamas.

Even after Jesus died and rose again, he ascended up a he up to heaven in Acts chapter number one.

The Bible says this of Mary.

She didn't quit.

She stayed with them in the upper room.

She kept with the gospel mission, she kept advancing the cause of God.

See, it wasn't just about uh her birthing a child, it was about her submission and surrender to God Almighty.

God had chosen her to steward the Son of God.

And just like all of our children, listen, we are stewards if God gave us children.

And we are stewards if God gives us work, and we're stewards, and we get to we get to steward them not as owners, but as managers for the glory of God.

Here he is, God.

Here's my child.

I serve unto you, God.

And we see that with Mary.

She was there in the upper room.

She was supportive, providing encouragement and emotional help.

Mary was there from the manger to the cross.

She didn't leave him.

Her love stood in the shadows of the cross, a mother's loyalty to the end.

She continued even afterwards.

When Jesus ascended up, she was still in the gospel ministry.

Thank the Lord for moms that bear burdens.

The unseen sacrifices, the untold struggles that a mom endures when nobody else sees it.

Mary is a picture of unwavering support.

Even when it hurts, she stayed.

Even when she couldn't fix it, she remained present.

See, even if you can't fix it, you can stay there and feel it.

You can stay there and be with them.

And so, in closing, today we get to see this heart of a mother, a beautiful mother.

And today, to every mother here today, thank you.

Thank you for your prayers you whispered in the night that no one heard but God.

Thank you for the strength you showed when your heart was breaking.

Thank you for your soft words, your steady hands, and your sleepless sacrifices.

You are heaven's echoes of love on earth.

Like Mary, you are proof that God chooses the humble to carry the holy.

We see Christ more clearly because of your example.

And today, we honor you, we bless you, and we say with full hearts, Happy Mother's Day.

Happy Mother's Day.

You're deeply loved, you're forever cherished, you are God's beautiful gift to us all.
