  6. You're listening to a podcast from Victory. The antidote for

  7. worry is seeking first the Kingdom of God. Learn more

  8. about how to handle worry and anxiety in Week twelve

  9. of our series Redefined.

  10. We're gonna talk about anxiety six times, okay, six times

  11. from ninth verses from Matthew six twenty five to thirty four.

  12. Six times this word anxious was actually mentioned. If you

  13. check the another version and IV talks about worry worry?

  14. Do we worry? Worried? What is anxiety? Anxiety is an

  15. emotion characterized by an unpleasant state of inner turmoil something inside.

  16. Maybe you don't see it outside, but something's happening inside,

  17. often accompanied by nervous behavior such as pacing back and forth.

  18. Hindiepooh anxious, I know I'm pacing back and forth. Excited

  19. excited I'm excited, such as pacing back and forth. It

  20. is the subjectivity unpleasant feelings of dread over anticipated or

  21. future events. Something's about to happeness in your mind. You're anxious.

  22. You're anxious about tomorrow. Why tomorrow is Monday? Okay, tomorrow,

  23. Monday is starting on school, starting on work week. Marquit

  24. pin arama, mahalmung boss mark you nothing's to do some

  25. you you you you feel anxious already. There was a

  26. translation about anxiety worry that it is characterized by a

  27. person being choked anxiety. You're here, You're like being choked.

  28. You're being choked. I remember I I know of this

  29. person who he was a businessman, and then when he

  30. was doing business that be built up anxiety. Yeah, and

  31. it always starts Saturday evening when Sunday comes. Sometimes they

  32. would go to church. He would be with his family.

  33. He would be with his close family and extended family.

  34. But then most oftentimes his mind won't be with them,

  35. and then magda be built up. Now on towards after lunchtime,

  36. going going to the evening, he would be so reclusive,

  37. notey and sometimes because he's so anxious. He saw anxious

  38. because of the next day, what will happen the next day?

  39. Checks would come in. You don't know if there are

  40. actually funds in your in your account, payables that should

  41. have been paid, You're not sure if it's already paid.

  42. Anxiety builds up. You know that that person I was

  43. telling you about was me years ago, years ago, when

  44. I was a business and I was a business man.

  45. It's something that that I really felt. There's like a choke.

  46. There's like a choke that even when when my children

  47. would come to me, I would embarrass them at times

  48. because I didn't want to talk to them and it

  49. was supposed to be our family day. It was supposed

  50. to be a family day today today, as we read

  51. through the scriptures, as we learn God's word for you

  52. and I, my prayer is just Jesus doesn't only want

  53. to address anxiety, but also release us from anxiety. We

  54. have to be released. You just want to know about

  55. anxiety and anxiety what Jesus had to say. But you're

  56. not to release We ought to be released. In one

  57. one of the studies that I found is that mild

  58. cases of anxiety depression may actually lead to an early death.

  59. Lead on early death. Let's read now in Matthew six

  60. twenty five to thirty four about anxiety sets up says

  61. here therefore, I tell you, do not be anxious about

  62. your life, what you will eat, or what you will drink,

  63. nor about your body. What you will put on. Is

  64. not life more than the food, and body more than clothing.

  65. Look at the birds of the air. They neither saw,

  66. nor reap, nor gather into barns, And yet your heavenly

  67. Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they?

  68. Verse twenty seven. And which of you, being anxious, can

  69. add a single hour to his span of life? And

  70. why are you being so anxious about clothing? Consider the

  71. leies of the field, how they grow? They neither toil

  72. nor spin. Yet I tell you even Solomon, in all

  73. his glory, was not arrayed like one of these. But

  74. if God so close the grass of the field, which

  75. today is alive and tomorrow is thrown into oven, will

  76. he not much more clothe you, oh you of little faith. Therefore,

  77. do not be anxious, saying what shall we eat, or

  78. what shall we drink? What shall we wear? For the

  79. gentile seek after all these things, and your heavenly Father

  80. knows that you need them all. But seek first the

  81. Kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things

  82. will be added to you Therefore, do not be anxious

  83. about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself sufficient,

  84. for the day is its own trouble. So oftentimes, I

  85. know you've read this passage hundreds of times, maybe some

  86. of you thousands of times. Thousands can say version and

  87. version of Babelica. Therefore, do not be anxious. But we

  88. might miss a very big part. The very big part

  89. there is that therefore, therefore that word, therefore, that small

  90. word therefore is therefore a reason we have to settle,

  91. is it? First? Remember last week when you talked about

  92. where do you actually lay your treasures? In heaven or

  93. in earth? That therefore is the verse previous to that

  94. verse twenty four when it said, no one can serve

  95. two masters, for either he will hate the one and

  96. love the other, or he will be devoted to the

  97. one and despite the other. It has to be settled first.

  98. If you're not sure if money is your master or

  99. or God is your master, you have to settle now

  100. before the very word of God settles in our heart,

  101. and only when we have made our choice for heavenly treasure,

  102. for light for God. Therefore, I tell you this is

  103. how must we Behave you have to settle this first

  104. in your very hearts. Kingdom thinking would lead us to kingdom,

  105. living kingdom. Living the way we think will dictate the

  106. way we are gonna live. Our Father in heaven hallow,

  107. do your name your kingdom. Come, Your will be done

  108. on earth as it is in heaven. Then it follows,

  109. give us this day our daily bread. We have to

  110. set the imperative first. Are we living for the kingdom

  111. or are you building your own kingdom? Are we living

  112. for God's kingdom? Or are we living for the heavenly kingdom?

  113. Jesus here address three things about anxiety. First, reasons of

  114. our anxiety? What are the different reasons? I know you

  115. have your reasons. If your anxious right now, if you're

  116. just a bit worried. Verse twenty five said what you

  117. will eat, what you will drink? What? Nor about your body,

  118. what you will put on. Jesus is not just saying here, okay,

  119. this is all These are only that are He's actually

  120. questioning us, Are these the things you're worried about? Menial stuff?

  121. He's telling us menial stuff minia especially for him, because

  122. he could provide over and beyond the art our very need.

  123. He's saying here, if we are worried about our clothing,

  124. the food we eat, the drink that we need to

  125. to drink, cunune lang po lamanathen cunun lang anxious that

  126. ile papan beginning a tim I'm responsibility that what more

  127. the bigger stuff. The question here, the question that he's

  128. asking here is why why are you worried? What are

  129. there different reasons that that that that we are actually anxious?

  130. Basic needs? We say that we needed to survive, and

  131. then then if we if you keep on counting and

  132. then cool, cool. And you have that anxiety now of

  133. being in lack, maybe you're not really in lack. Maybe

  134. you're just looking at the other person, or you're thinking

  135. about what people would tell you we talk about you

  136. and how people would perceive you. That's why you're in lack.

  137. Most of the time, we're anxious because people. We know

  138. that people are looking at us and our stuff. Some

  139. people are actually anxious about their health to the point

  140. that it's actually eating them alive. Some are very anxious

  141. about death. Why are you anxious about death? I'm not

  142. saying I want to die now, but if God takes

  143. me good, are you prepared to die? Have you prepared yourself.

  144. A preparation is not in the money even more. No, no, no, no, no no.

  145. Have you laid out treasures in heaven? Do you know

  146. that you're actually going to heaven? A lot of people

  147. are anxious about calamities, anxious about power, power, that they

  148. don't have power, or they have power, they might lose power.

  149. They're anxious about that also, and uncertainty of the future.

  150. God is asking why what do you actually value? Why

  151. are you anxious? Is not life more than food and

  152. the body more than clothing? Only you can answer that,

  153. he says in verse twenty seven. And which of you,

  154. by being anxious can add a single hour to his

  155. span of life? He's asking us here the question, what

  156. is the reason that you're worried? Don't you know that

  157. you're not actually in control? We are not. If anyone

  158. of you hear anyone of us here think that you

  159. are in control, We're never in control. We think we

  160. are in control, but we're not. We're not in control.

  161. You know, eighty five percent of anxiety, this is research

  162. by science. Eighty five percent of anxiety doesn't actually happen,

  163. only fifteen percent. But then we worry too much? Can

  164. you can you imagine that do you have mathematicians in

  165. the house, you probability only fifteen percent of the time

  166. that you get worried, can it actually happen? Worry is

  167. wasting today's time to clutter up tomorrow's opportunity because you

  168. can't move on. You're thinking about today today. Worry, worry

  169. word don yai yesterday with yesterday's trouble. Mayari olizaren papa.

  170. As parents, I'm I'm a parent. Here you always thinking,

  171. you always be thinking, okay, what what if this happens

  172. to my child as it happened to me. Leave those

  173. worries behind, perfect love, cast out fear. Where do you

  174. put your hope now? Is it in your control? Trying

  175. to control, trying to control your child, trying to control

  176. every child you cannot surely is in control? In your

  177. finances and here and here increase no zero sabank account

  178. mo peri in palabas nang zerodulas lang. Right, we're not

  179. in control. We're never in control. But if you put

  180. your trust in the Lord, you know that he is

  181. in control. I love this group of people that were

  182. once they were slave, slave and they were granted freedom,

  183. and there was a leader who stood up and led

  184. them out. Remember the hundreds of years they were slave,

  185. Now going to their promised land. They started to grumble

  186. along the way in the middle the forty day only

  187. forty day journey, thirteen to forty years of journey. They

  188. still grumbled, grumbled and grumbled and grumbled that they want

  189. to they want to dethrone the leader. They want to say,

  190. can you just step out? We were we were, okay,

  191. a slave, but now that you have led us to

  192. our freedom, it's as if we're gonna die in search

  193. of our freedom. They started grumbling, grumbling. Never did they

  194. think that in the forty years that they were in

  195. the desert, in the wilderness, they never got hungry, They

  196. never got thirsty. They were provided for and even the

  197. very souls of their sandals hind. Those were the Israelites

  198. when they were being led out. They were only thinking

  199. about themselves. They were always saying, okay, b blick Munhao's

  200. Egypt done to taste freedom? Do we worry? How do

  201. we worry? What are the things that are making us

  202. so anxious? Now? What are the things that keep us

  203. so worried that even our health, even our relationships are

  204. are being affected. Yes, relationships can be affected by worrying

  205. about what happened yesterday, and then you cannot move on?

  206. What are those second thing that Jesus addressed, Here is

  207. the root cause of our anxiety? Blatantly, blatantly, he told

  208. us the very root costs. In verse thirty, he says,

  209. but if God so close the grass of the field,

  210. which today is alive and tomorrow is thrown into the oven,

  211. will he not much more clothe view, oh you of

  212. little faith? Zero and saying, you know what, It's not

  213. about the clothes. It's not about the food, it's not

  214. about the drink. It's about your faith. Do you trust me?

  215. Do you do? We trust him? Proof? Proof as people,

  216. very visual proof, he said. Look at the birds of

  217. the air day, neither so nor reap nor gathering barns,

  218. And yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not

  219. more valuable than they are? Proof? And why are you

  220. so anxious about clothing? Consider the dealaise of the field,

  221. how they grow, they neither toil or spill. Yet I

  222. tell you, even Solomon, in all his glory, was not

  223. arrayed like any one of these, oh you of little faith,

  224. talks about us little faith, little faith. When you when

  225. you look at the translation, little faith. The very root

  226. word of little faith is dull in hearing, dull in hearing.

  227. You're dull in hearing or made dull in hearing. Remember

  228. Philippians four six. Do not be anxious about anything, but

  229. in everything, by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your

  230. requests be known to God. Philippines four six. That was

  231. on my wall in my office, But never did it

  232. penetrate our heart every morning, every morning before when I

  233. when I was a businessman, it was my It was

  234. my business partner who shared the Gospel to me, and

  235. she told me, why don't you write in the wall,

  236. But you don't get anxious? IM worried, So I would

  237. drighten the wall. I would always read it. But then

  238. it never penetrated my heart dull in hearing. It was

  239. mere words. It never penetated in my heart whiter because

  240. I was dull in hearing, I had little faith. Where

  241. is your faith right now? How strong is our faith

  242. right now? Remember when Peter looked for Jesus and Jesus said, Peter,

  243. come to me when they were on the boat. Remember

  244. that story when Jesus asked him, Come, come over. Peter

  245. might have been excited at first. He was gonna walk

  246. on water, remember that. But when he took a step,

  247. before he actually took that step, suddenly he heard the

  248. wind howling, heard the water splashing before he even set foot.

  249. What happened? He drowned? He almost drowned. Why because instead

  250. of hearing the voice of Jesus, he heard worries, he

  251. heard problems, He heard anxieties. And then it crept In

  252. talks about us as hearing. He talks about the status.

  253. Do you hear your father in heaven? Do you know

  254. that he's your father? What is your status? What is

  255. your status? There's a clue here and saying why why worry?

  256. He said, there your heavenly father. There's a metaphor here

  257. that that God created the birds and provided for them.

  258. But suddenly it shifted and Jesus reminded us he did

  259. not just God did just just created us. But he

  260. is our father. That means I will provide for you.

  261. Have you seen a father not not wanting to provide

  262. for his children? Why worry? There's a comparison, now, are

  263. you a gentile? For the gentile sick? After all these

  264. things and your heavenly father knows that you need them all.

  265. He's asking here, now, do you know that as a

  266. Christ follower, I am your father. As a gentile, we're

  267. not gentiles. We're Christ followers. The question is what is

  268. our status talking about our faith? What is our status

  269. now with God? My prayer is that you can boldly

  270. say that I am a son and a daughter of God.

  271. I am a son or I am a daughter of God.

  272. Let's move now to the third the last thing that

  273. Jesus actually addressed here. Third and last one is the

  274. resolution to our anxiety. How can we resolve this? What

  275. is the What is the solution Jesus wants us to

  276. be released from our anxiety? Church, if you're ready right

  277. now to write notes, okay, pastors, the pastor is gonna

  278. give me step one, step two, step three how to

  279. be released of my anxiety. I'm gonna I'm gonna disappoint you.

  280. There's no step. There's no step one, step two, step three.

  281. It would always go back again to the reason and

  282. to the root. Cause. It would talk about our relationship,

  283. because if we know that he is our father, we

  284. would gladly release to him all our anxiety. Matthew six

  285. thirty three says, seek first the kingdom of God and

  286. his righteousness, and all of this will be added to you.

  287. Your kingdom. Come, Your will be done on earth as

  288. it is in heaven. Lord, your kingdom first before my needs.

  289. Why because I know as you as you are my

  290. Jehovah Father, you are my provider. You are Jehoah of

  291. a gyra that will provide for me. Now I would

  292. do the very will of your kingdom. I would move,

  293. I would help in advancing your kingdom, and everything will

  294. just follow. Put Jesus first. He is our primary. He

  295. is first, and he is our one and only. In Romans,

  296. Paul says it very clearly in Romans eight thirty two,

  297. where he said he who did not spare his own son,

  298. but gave him up for us all, how will he

  299. not also with him graciously give us all things. If

  300. the very reason now you're hearing God's word today is

  301. because of what Jesus did on that cross, how can

  302. he withhold those good things that you're praying for that

  303. you're anxious about. If he God him self did not

  304. spare his son for us to enjoy life here on

  305. earth and in eternity. How can he withhold material things,

  306. minial stuff? How Philippin's four sex Do not be anxious

  307. about anything, but in everything, by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving,

  308. Let your requests be known to God. H It's a

  309. purpose why I put this cross here. There are times

  310. that when we worry, we would like to carry the

  311. cross that Jesus actually carried. It's not too heavy now,

  312. but it gets heavier in a while. That's like a

  313. picture of us being anxious. And that's just one cross.

  314. But if there's another worry, another anxiety. First it was parenting,

  315. Next it was about money. You carry another cross again,

  316. and then about sickness. Somebody get really sick in the family.

  317. You grab another cross. Nobody's putting it on you. Remember,

  318. you just grab another cross sometimes freely. Let me take

  319. that cross, And then something happened in the relationship. Let me,

  320. let me, let me, let me carry another cross. Took

  321. it upon ourselves, not realizing that that cross, that very cross,

  322. is the illustration of our freedom. We take across at

  323. a time, across as a time, and we carry it.

  324. We try to do it on our own way, on

  325. our own Remember, I remember a family who's very dear

  326. to us. They're in church now, but before they got

  327. into church, their marriage was was dead. It was actually dead.

  328. They got restored. After that, they found out that one

  329. of their child has who was suffering epilepsy, has to

  330. take medication. The daily medication calame maintenance now because it

  331. didn't she didn't actually grow out of it. Then they

  332. found out that one of their child has actually a

  333. congenital heart disease that they also need medication for. And

  334. just recently they actually found out their last, their bunso

  335. has lupus. Me and my wife and we were just talking.

  336. We're just say we would just asked ourselves why, Lord, why?

  337. And then and that dad actually just survived a brain surgery.

  338. When all of us were actually celebrating, here comes a

  339. news we're celebrating almost almost almost one year now, that

  340. that that that that he's recovering. The marriage is in

  341. fact that they're they're serving the church. The kids are

  342. all serving the church. Oh yeah, your last your youngest

  343. daughter has lupus. We were just asking why. There's no answer.

  344. My wife and I drew strength from the kid's prayer.

  345. What is her prayer? Her prayer is is? She cried

  346. she They cried terribly. As a family. They questioned God.

  347. Sometimes it's okay to question God. It's okay. But after

  348. that you move on, You move on. Hey, I'm not

  349. telling you no looking on armor of God? Hello? Can

  350. we put on the arm more of God? Because nat

  351. in Kayah, I drew strength and console from the from

  352. the child when she said when we ask her, are

  353. you okay? I'm okay? Now why I've released it to

  354. the Lord. I've prayed about it. And look at my parents.

  355. Their marriage is okay. Look at my dad, he's okay

  356. now after brain surgery. Look at my two sisters, they're okay.

  357. With all their congenital diseases. They're okay. Their foundcenting properly.

  358. So I know I will be okay because God is

  359. in control. God is in control. Sometimes we have fears,

  360. we have condemnations, we have doubts, and we have worry.

  361. But Jesus is redefining us here. Jesus redefined our priorities

  362. to release us from all our anxieties. He wants to

  363. release you and I. He wants to release you and I. Yes,

  364. the problem might be there tomorrow when you wake up,

  365. but it should not drag you down and put added weight,

  366. added cross on you. Because remember the empty tomb of Jesus.

  367. When we took all our sins, took all our sufferings

  368. on the cross, he rose again after three days. The

  369. empty tomb of Jesus is the promise that he will

  370. never leave you nor forsake you. That perfect love casts

  371. out fear, that there's no condemnation, there's no shame. Put

  372. it on him, release, release upon the Lord. Can I

  373. just ask everybody, for everybody, everybody, let's participate. Can I

  374. just everybody to just close your eyes? Close your eyes?

  375. When was the last time you actually breathe? When was

  376. the last time that you you breathe normally? When was

  377. the last time that you released everything? You've been in

  378. church for the longest time, You've been in ministry for

  379. the longest time, you've been a volunteer for the longest time,

  380. you've read your Bible the longest time, or this is

  381. your first time to come to church, first time to

  382. hear the gospel, first time to be in a church

  383. community like this. Jesus is asking you, my son and

  384. my daughter, when was the last time you breathe? The

  385. all eyes closed? All eyes closed, breathe in hold it,

  386. hold it, and then release. Just breathe in next two minutes,

  387. breath in hold Lord, it's hold on you, Lord, I

  388. release it to you. Lord. More than you hear the

  389. size of our hearts, you see what's in them. The

  390. Lord is saying, unto you, my son and my daughter,

  391. I don't want you to carry all those weights. They're

  392. not meant for you. I have already tooken it upon

  393. me on that cross, and when I declared it is finished,

  394. it is finished. So why are you carried all those weights?

  395. Release them to me, my sons and my daughters. Release worries,

  396. release those doubts. I would never count any wrong, I

  397. would never shame you. I would uphold you with my

  398. fairy right at hand. Release them to me, the Lord says, Lord,

  399. I pray right now, Lord, for my brothers and my sisters.

  400. If it's about our faith, Lord, make our hearing not

  401. dull but sharp. Make the very words, Lord God, come

  402. to life as we read them in and through our lives. Lord,

  403. make us salt and light by giving us that light,

  404. giving the very path to take, the very direction to take,

  427. He makes me lie down in green pastures, He leads me.

  428. Besides still waters, he restores my soul. He leads me

  429. in pas of righteousness for his namesake. Even though I

  430. walk through the value of the shadow of death, I

  431. will fear no evil, for you are with me, your rod,

  432. your stuff. They comfort me. You prepare a table before

  433. me in the presence of my enemies. You annoyed my

  434. head with oil. My cup overflows. Surely goodness and mercy

  435. shall follow me all the days of my life, and

  436. I shall dwell in the house of the Lord forever.
