  1. Welcome Just hand Away Tagalog Sermon podcast. Your daily dose

  2. are inspiring from heartfelt tagalog sermons from different characters and

  3. speakers all over the Philippines. We're hoping this podcast finds

  4. you in good shame and now here's your message.

  5. You're listening to a podcast from Victory. Our spiritual disciplines

  6. should be real and sincere, not hypocritical nor mechanical. Learn

  7. more about spiritual disciplines in week nine of our series Redefined.

  8. So to start with our topic for today, how many

  9. of you watched the fight this morning? Okay between the

  10. Mayweather and Connor McGregor. They're saying one of the biggest

  11. fights in boxing history. Unfortunately, Connor McGregor was snapped out

  12. in the tenth round and Floyd Mayweather was able to

  13. establish his title as the greatest.

  14. Boxer in history with fifty wins.

  15. Now, I'm showing this to you not because of the

  16. fight this morning, but month before, a month before this fight,

  17. there's this Kazakhstan fitness blogger who posts as Connor McGregor

  18. and went around Las Vegas, New York and La.

  19. So Telegan totally almost look alike.

  20. The height, the tattoo, the the hair, and then he

  21. went around. Then when people saw him together with his

  22. team Connor Connor so and then the people would rush

  23. and everywhere he went he attracted this huge crowd.

  24. It caused huge traffic.

  25. And then he around taking selfish and videos Tapas Don

  26. Taimatau Feeling Eamtnam and Siconnor MacGregor, and then they went

  27. home with their fake picture. Now I'm saying that story

  28. because in the passage of scripture we're going to read today,

  29. Jesus talked about religious actors, religious pretenders, and impostors who

  30. do religious activities for a show during the time of Jesus,

  31. Mimahtula Din Connor MacGregor going around and doing all the

  32. spiritual religious activities, pretending to be somebody that they are

  33. really not, and so they are able to project this

  34. image and make people believe that they are really more

  35. spiritual than they really are. So that's what we're going

  36. to look at today. In Matthew chapter six, if you

  37. have your Bible with you, we're going to read from

  38. verse one to verse eight, and then we're going to

  39. jump to verse sixteen to eighteen. Okay, it says beware

  40. of practicing your righteousness.

  41. Beware before other people in order.

  42. To be seen by them, for then you will have

  43. no reward from your father, who is in heaven. Thus,

  44. when you give to the needy, sound no trumpet before you,

  45. as the hypocrites do in the synagogues in the streets,

  46. that they may be praised by others.

  47. Truly, I say to you, they have received their reward.

  48. But when you give to the needy, do not let

  49. your left hand know what your right hand is doing,

  50. so that your giving may be in secret, and your father,

  51. who sees in secret, will reward you.

  52. Verse five.

  53. And when you pray, you must not be like the hypocrites,

  54. for they love to stand and pray in the synagogues

  55. and at the street corners that they may be seen

  56. by others.

  57. Truly, I say to you, they have received their reward.

  58. But when you pray, go into your room and shut

  59. the door, and pray to your who is in secret,

  60. and your father, who sees in secret, will reward you.

  61. And when you pray, do not hip hop empty phrases

  62. as gentiles do, for they think that they will be

  63. heard for their many words.

  64. Do not be like them, for your father knows what

  65. you need before you ask him.

  66. And then we're going to skip because verse nine we're

  67. going to talk about that next week the Lord's prayer,

  68. and we're going to go through the whole prayer that

  69. Jesus taught his disciples. But in verse sixteen talking about fasting,

  70. I'm gonna year you love fasting, Legan, But in verse sixteen,

  71. and when you fast, do not look gloomy like the hypocrites,

  72. For they disfigure their faces that their fasting may be

  73. seen by others. Truly, I say to you, they have

  74. received their reward. But when you fast, annoint your head

  75. and wash your face, that your fasting may not be

  76. seen by others, but by your father, who is in secret.

  77. And your father, who sees in secret, will reward you.

  78. Can you join me in a word of prayer? Lord,

  79. We pray today, Lord, that your word will come to

  80. us with power, with the Holy spirit, and with deep conviction.

  81. Lord.

  82. We thank you Lord that every time we hear your word,

  83. your word brings Lord God comes to us like water,

  84. like fire, like hammer that smashed Lord God, wrong thinking

  85. in Lord God, in wrong mindsets. Lord, we thank you

  86. Lord for what you're going to do. Lord, as we

  87. listen to your word in Jesus name.

  88. Amen.

  89. Okay, now as we read this portion of Jesus sermon.

  90. When I was studying this, I said to myself, this

  91. is so relevant to us, especially today, because we're so

  92. used to telling everybody what is happening about us. Okay,

  93. that's so common for us. We tell people what we eat,

  94. we tell people where we are, we tell people who's

  95. with uh. That's a part of our daily life. We

  96. post it in Instagram and we post it in Facebook,

  97. sometimes in the form of humble brag. How many of

  98. you have heard that phrase humble brag? And I'll show

  99. you some examples. Melanditon Apathe this one, we just you know,

  100. cover the phase so that you would not know that

  101. they are in the five thirty PM service, Sabina, Why

  102. does the Mercedes dealership always have fresh, big hot cookies?

  103. Don't they understand how mean that is? So you're saying

  104. you're always in the you know, in the Mercedes dealership office.

  105. So basically, what is what she wants people to know

  106. where she is?

  107. Next? One at all?

  108. Hi, I'm sixteen and I'm publishing three books in an

  109. album this year. Do you have any advice on how

  110. to handle it? Best knocks very humble. No, you know,

  111. I want to learn from you guys. This is a

  112. hard life. Next one, Sabina, I'm featured in People's Most Beautiful.

  113. What can I say?

  114. They all make mistakes, but did the shoot with no makeup?

  115. And I have to say scary and humble.

  116. No.

  117. The last one, Sabina's setting up your own charity an

  118. event is no joke.

  119. Would have thought it to be easier. This is serious. Now.

  120. In verse one, you know before this portion of jesus

  121. sermon in verse one, if you still remember in week two, uh,

  122. in verse one, we're told to be careful, not to

  123. do our good works for other people to see. In fact,

  124. Jesus exhorted us to do things in secret. But in

  125. week two in Matthew chapter five, verse six, we're told

  126. to let our light shine before man.

  127. How gonna have you?

  128. Remember that the Bible is where the salt and light

  129. of this world, and because of that, we're to allow

  130. our light to shine so that other people will see

  131. our good works and hopefully in.

  132. The process God will be glorified.

  133. Now it seems like it's too contradicting commands from God.

  134. Which one do we follow? And the answer is both,

  135. because sometimes sometimes.

  136. We need to let other people know.

  137. We have to let our light shine, just like what

  138. we did earlier when we showed you the video of

  139. our real life.

  140. Foundation.

  141. Sometimes we have to let people know so that they

  142. will be inspired and so that they will somehow that

  143. will create curiosity and point them to God. But sometimes

  144. we have to do things in secret and not let

  145. other people know. We need to do both. Now, in

  146. other words of ab Bruce, I like how he write it.

  147. He said, show when tempted to hide, and hide when

  148. tempted to show. We need to practice both. But the

  149. difference is the motive. The difference is the motive. Now

  150. Here Jesus mentioned if you in the Bible, if a

  151. word is repeated twice or trice, it means it's important.

  152. How many of you know that everything written in the

  153. Bible is important. Now, if it's if it's repeated twice

  154. or three times, it means it's very very important. Now,

  155. it's interesting because in this passage of scripture, Jesus repeated

  156. the word secret six times, repeated the word reward seven times,

  157. and then he repeated the word father seven times, making

  158. it obvious to us what is trying to emphasize. So

  159. for the remaining time that we have, I want to

  160. talk about the word secret, the word reward, and the

  161. word father. First one is the word secret. Now three times.

  162. Also, Jesus used the word hypocrites.

  163. And during their time, it originally meant actors who wear mask.

  164. It refers to people who are playing roles on stage,

  165. like a theater or a stage play. So that's the

  166. original meaning of the word hypocrites. And and and Jesus said,

  167. don't be like the hypocrites. Don't wear masks, don't put

  168. up a show, and don't just do things just to

  169. project a person that is very different from who you

  170. really are. Jesus said, do not be like them. Then

  171. he gave three specific examples. Okay, so, Sabina, if you're

  172. going to be a follower of Christ, be real, don't

  173. be a fake follower of Christ. If you're going to

  174. worship God, worship God with all your heart. And then

  175. he cites specific examples. But these are just examples. Of course,

  176. this principle can be applied in different areas of our lives.

  177. And he talked about first and foremost about giving, about giving,

  178. and he said, when you give to the needy sound

  179. no trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do.

  180. Now.

  181. I tried to research and study, and what I discovered

  182. was it's not really a practice during their time, so

  183. incong if they're going to the temple and they're going

  184. to give their money, nobody does that.

  185. Well, I may have no trumpet has impact offering envelope. Sorry, guys,

  186. just dropping my envelope.

  187. Okay, So Jesus is just trying to make an exaggeration.

  188. It's a figure of speech.

  189. But the point that Jesus was trying to make is

  190. that it's weird. It's weird when you're giving and you're

  191. finding a way to let people know about it.

  192. So when you give, do not be like the hypocrites.

  193. If you're giving, it's because of the generosity, out of

  194. the overflow of the generosity of God in your life,

  195. you know, as Christians. Amazingly, when Jesus thought this, when

  196. he thought about giving, fasting, and praying, he said, when

  197. you give, when you pray, when you fast, because these

  198. spiritual disciplines are expected of Jesus followers.

  199. It's not if, it's when. If you're a.

  200. Christian as a as a byproduct of following Christ and

  201. experience experiencing who God is, his goodness, his grace is generosity.

  202. Out of the overflow of God's goodness, we overflow.

  203. With goodness as well. We become generous.

  204. And so Jesus said, if you give, do not be

  205. like the hipocrites. Then he moved to prayer. He said,

  206. when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, because

  207. they love to pray in public.

  208. Ustunelayung.

  209. They want to maximize the the traffic.

  210. Sosan maraaminta fucky God.

  211. And you know, the point that Jesus was trying to

  212. make is not that it's wrong to pray in public.

  213. No, we pray in public. We have prayer meetings.

  214. Sometimes we do our victory groups and coffee shops and

  215. restaurants and we pray right there. So the point is

  216. not that it's wrong to pray in public. But if

  217. you're praying more in public than in private, then there's

  218. something wrong. We should pray more in private than in public.

  219. Praying should be a regular part of our life. It's

  220. it should be as normal as eating and talking and

  221. checking our phones. The bopment may phone tile. There's no

  222. particular place or time we just check it anywhere anytime, counting, gap, plan, conting, break, lamp,

  223. kid at the travel miss and kite my meeting. Miss okay, okay,

  224. wow Wow. We are so attached, We're so connected. The

  225. Bible says, pray without ceasing, pray non stop. What that

  226. means is that don't just pray when you're in church.

  227. Pray when you're driving, Pray when you're waiting for your appointment,

  228. Pray when you're with your kids. Pray before you sleep,

  229. Pray before you eat. I mean, pray when you're afraid.

  230. Pray when you're excited, different times, different places, different length pray.

  231. Pray because you want to connect to God. Pray because

  232. you want to because you want to intercede for others.

  233. It's okay to pray in public as long as we

  234. don't pray for the sake of publicity.

  235. So we pray. And then he.

  236. Talked about fasting, and I like the message translation of

  237. verse sixteen. I want to show this to you is

  238. that when you practice some appetite denying discipline to better

  239. concentrate on God, don't make a production out of it.

  240. It might turn you into a small time celebrity, but

  241. it won't make you a saint. I like that translation

  242. is that when you fast, it's because you want to

  243. be able to focus on God.

  244. But when you fast, make sure you're not turning it

  245. into a production.

  246. Because people might admire you, people might praise you, You

  247. might be a rock star for a minute at the

  248. expense of what God is doing in your character and

  249. in your heart. It might turn you into a small

  250. time celebrity, but it won't make you a saint.

  251. Now.

  252. I think the importance of doing things in secret, the

  253. point that Jesus was trying to make is in doing

  254. these spiritual disciplines, in practicing your righteousness, whatever that is,

  255. whether that's serving, whether that's singing, whether that's preaching, whether

  256. that's serving your family, whatever that is that you do

  257. as a follower Christ, he said, make sure that you

  258. do it.

  259. With the right motive.

  260. And if you're tempted, if you know, every time you

  261. do good works, there's a temptation to be proud to

  262. take the glory rather than to give God the glory, than.

  263. Do things in secret.

  264. And I think the importance of doing things in secret

  265. is that we are forced to focus on God and

  266. to trust in Him. And I think that's the power

  267. of doing things in secret. It forces us to focus

  268. on God. When nobody is aware of what we're doing,

  269. then we're forced to actually.

  270. Devote ourselves to Him.

  271. Nor it doesn't matter if people recognize it. It doesn't

  272. matter if people thank me for what I've done, because

  273. I'm not doing this for people. I'm doing this primarily

  274. for you, and it's you that I want to please.

  275. Doing things in secret, I'm forced to depend on God,

  276. not giving other people a clue because when I give

  277. to somebody, I'm not expecting that person to return to

  278. me the favor. When I give to that person, it's

  279. because I want to be a blessing and I'm looking

  280. to God to be the one to reward me. I

  281. think that's the power of doing things in secret. It

  282. forces us to trust God and to depend on him.

  283. Next one, he talked about reward. How many have you

  284. heard you want to receive rewards?

  285. You know? It motivates us. You know.

  286. One of the couples in our victory group during the

  287. couple's retreat, showed me a real time video of their

  288. kids at home. So we are in Santa Rosa and

  289. then they are showing me what's happening in their house

  290. here in New Manila, Kidaminaga, man Before during my time,

  291. before the internet, uh era, and before that, that typewriter

  292. Daniel Bone, well, I'm on computer, well on internet. Before

  293. that was difficult to imagine. That's unheard of for you

  294. to see what exactly other people are doing in real

  295. time in another place. But now it's so common for us.

  296. It's part of our daily life. It's not impossible, it's

  297. it's a reality for us.

  298. And you know, the Bible says the Bible.

  299. Uh the Bible says that your father, who sees what

  300. you do in secret, will reward you.

  301. How many of you are convinced that God.

  302. Sees what you do in secret? And that's the confidence

  303. we have. You know why we can do things in secret.

  304. You know why we don't have to flaunt our goodness.

  305. You know why we don't need to show off. You

  306. know why we don't need to go to other people

  307. for acceptance and approval. You know why because we are

  308. confident our father in heaven sees what we do in secret.

  309. And I'm not depending on other people for my reward.

  310. I'm depending on my father for my reward. You know,

  311. I think about my children. I have a seven year old,

  312. I have a two year old, and the simplest act

  313. of obedience, especially the younger one.

  314. The two year olds.

  315. Been called come on, fist bump, high five, come on kiss,

  316. daddy does me?

  317. It's alive about But you know, the simplest.

  318. Act of obedience, it brings so much joy to me

  319. as his father.

  320. But it's nothing. It's not like they've done something phenomenal.

  321. But so yes, that better for me. But wow, I'm

  322. so proud of you. You're a man. I'm so proud

  323. of you, and I want to do good things to them.

  324. You know why because I believe that's the heart of

  325. a father, and I believe that's God's heart for us.

  326. Our God is a good rewarder. You know. God rewards

  327. is in many ways.

  328. But you know, the greatest reward always for everything that

  329. we do, is not the money, the promotion.

  330. The healing, the favor, the relationship.

  331. No, in everything that we do, always the greatest reward

  332. is God himself.

  333. He is our very great reward.

  334. It's knowing him, it's being close to him and becoming

  335. more and more life I him.

  336. That's our reward.

  337. That's why sometimes when you do something Paranagzoka, pastor Sibishamani

  338. was telling us and during the early days, they were

  339. preaching about generosity in church because we're a very small church.

  340. There's not much.

  341. Resources, but we're believing for more fund so we can

  342. plant more churches and send more missionaries. And so the

  343. only way for us is to believe for provision from God,

  344. to believe that God is good, that God is generous,

  345. and the Bible says in order for us to experience

  346. the abundance of God, we need to sow by faith.

  347. So during their time, to sona five hundred within the week,

  348. may I'm be blessed them five thousand? Whoa so inspiring

  349. pastor many was so inspired. He was believing for a car,

  350. but all he had was a pair of rubbers shoes.

  351. So Scenoni, he was in faith.

  352. He was believing, You're able to do more than what

  353. we could ask for.

  354. Imagine after a month will happening after two months, third month,

  355. he received a pair of rubber shoes. But you know,

  356. they continued on believing. But you know what he got

  357. more than Maybe he did not get what he was expecting,

  358. but in the process he became closer to him.

  359. His faith, muscles was built.

  360. He looked onto God and depended on him. Eventually somebody

  361. blessed him with a brand new van for the family.

  362. But you know that's not the greatest blessing, and the

  363. greatest reward, Our greatest reward is him. And thirdly is

  364. the word father, Father. You know, it's amazing because in

  365. just the verse as we read, not including the Lord's prayer,

  366. if you include the Lord's prayer, the word father was

  367. mentioned twelve times and over and over again. God has

  368. so many titles, he the Lord, the Messiah, the healer,

  369. the provider, el Shadai. I mean, there's so many names

  370. and titles given to God, but it seemed like his

  371. favorite title is the title of a father, and he

  372. wants his people to relate to him as such.

  373. Like sabit.

  374. You know you don't have to you know, you don't

  375. have to be hungry for approval from other people. But

  376. if you do things in secret, me, your father sees

  377. what you do in secret. And over and over again,

  378. he said, you have a father in heaven. You have

  379. a father in heaven who is not who is involved

  380. in your life. You have a father in heaven who

  381. is generous and good, who delights in your prosperity, who

  382. wants to bless you, who wants to do you good.

  383. You have a father in heaven, and God wants to

  384. communicate to the people because this is something that the

  385. Pharis has missed these religious leaders, because for them it

  386. became all about rules and traditions. It's all about keeping

  387. external rules. It's all about the external and Jesus was

  388. bringing them back to the heart of the message. It's

  389. not about tradition, it's not about rules, it's not about religion.

  390. It's about you having a relationship with your father in

  391. heaven and you being his son and his daughter. He

  392. wants us to know him as our father. Do you

  393. know him as a father? Are you confident that you

  394. have a father who cares for you, who loves you,

  395. who is great plan for your life, who will reward

  396. even the smallest act of your obedience. He's not obligated,

  397. is not required, but by the grace and goodness of God,

  398. he promised to reward every act of obedience we do

  399. for him. That's the God we serve, that's the Father

  400. we serve.

  401. You know.

  402. As I end, I want to end with a quote

  403. from one noted philosopher and theologian modern theologian about the

  404. reason for living.

  405. And here's what she said. Some people live for.

  406. The fortune, some people live for the fame, some people

  407. live for the power.

  408. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Some people live just to play the game. No,

  409. it's a song.

  410. I was listening to it last night, and I want

  411. to ask you this question, what do you live for?

  412. Who do you live for?

  413. Are you living for the approval of man or are

  414. you living for the approval of God? Are you trying

  415. to please men or are you trying to please him?

  416. The Bible says if you are doing things just to

  417. impress people or get more likes, you have received your reward,

  418. meaning that's all you will ever get. After the like,

  419. that's your reward. After people write a comment on your

  420. Facebook post, that's your reward. That's all you'll ever get,

  421. that fleeting moment of public recognition.

  422. Then it's over.

  423. But everything we do for God, everything we do for God,

  424. will be remembered for all of eternity. Everything we do

  425. for God will echo through eternity.

  426. That's why the simplest.

  427. Life and the least impressive person in the eyes of

  428. this world, maybe you're just a maybe you're a mom

  429. who's part of your worship to God is waking up

  430. every day and serving your family, loving your spouse, and

  431. doing the most mundane of things. There's no trumpet when

  432. you fold the laundry and.

  433. Standing.

  434. Ovation become the club we well happens in it's just

  435. you doing that in secret.

  436. Maybe that you're a dad.

  437. You're working very hard for your family, loving your wife,

  438. leading your leading your kids, quietly serving and advancing the

  439. Kingdom of God. But if you're doing that for God,

  440. it will be remembered and it will be rewarded. The

  441. simplest life and the least impressive person in the eyes

  442. of this world can live a life of eternal significance.

  443. When you live it for His glory. Amen. Can I

  444. just pray right now?

  445. Lord Father, We really we thank you for your word today. Lord,

  446. I pray, make us a people who will not be

  447. obsessed with the things of this world, who will not

  448. be obsessed with the approval of men. But I pray

  449. make us a people whose passion is to honor You

  450. and everything that we do.

  451. Lord, I pray.

  452. That every time we do something, I pray Lord, that

  453. our hearts will be pure. It's not to get the

  454. glory for ourselves, but to give you glory, because only

  455. you deserve all the praise and all the worship and

  456. all the glory. Lord, I thank you for aligning our hearts.

  457. I thank you for aligning our focus. Sometimes life can

  458. be complicated, Sometimes we can be too distracted, Sometimes we

  459. can lose our focus, and sometimes we focus too much

  460. on ourselves or what other people say about us, to

  461. the point of not valuing what you're saying about us.

  462. We value other people's opinion more than your opinion of us.

  463. But Lord, today, thank you for reminding us that only

  464. you deserve our all. Lord, remove the insecurities in our hearts,

  465. remove the pride and the desire to be known, and

  466. replace it with the desire to make you known. Lord,

  467. we acknowledge that everything we do, our talent, our wealth,

  468. our relationships, our help, every blessing that we have, it's

  469. all designed for us to use to worship You, for

  470. us to be a blessing to other people. Lord, we

  471. thank you for the promise reward, even though we don't

  472. deserve it, even though you don't have to. Just what

  473. you've done for us on the cross is more than enough.

  474. Everything after salvation is just a bonus. What you've done

  475. for us on the cross is the greatest gift.

  476. We will ever receive in this life.

  477. Yet, out of your grace and out of your goodness,

  478. you promise to reward even the smallest act.

  479. Of obedience we do.

  480. What a great God, What an awesome God we serve. Lord,

  481. I pray for each and every one of us, give

  482. us a greater revelation.

  483. Of who you are as our father.

  484. Some of us, Lord, we don't have a good experience

  485. with our biological father, and sometimes that hinders us from

  486. relating to you as our father.

  487. Lord, I pray remove those.

  488. Negative image and ideas about you as a father.

  489. Help us love you.

  490. And know you as our perfect, heavenly father who cares

  491. for us, who loves us, who has great plans for us.

  492. Lord, thank you so much, Lord.

  493. Even today, for those who are here for the very

  494. first time, Lord, I thank you for Lord God giving

  495. them an idea of what this is all about, that

  496. it's not about religion, it's about relationship.

  497. Lord.

  498. I pray, let this be the starting point of their

  499. relationship with you. Let this be a trigger, a spark

  500. in their heart, Lord, to know you better. Lord, God,

  501. we thank you for the message we've heard today. We

  502. thank you for the assurance we received from you today.

  503. May we live our lives for your glory and honor.
