God's Greatness Has No Boundaries

So they were going to talk about another character or

attribute of God. And as I try to introduce this series,

I was talking to one of our guys here, see Monty,

and Pastor Larry is part of our worship team, and

sixteen twenty one years ago, two decades ago. So I'm

not sure with our younger generation now, but I grew

up hearing lots of funny stories about people battling for

greatness sataga Filipino or my dad is better than your dad, man.

And one of the stories that I used to, uh,

you know, I used this a lot when I was

in Tampus Ministry. Let's see if it's still going to work.

After twenty years, Thank you, thank you, thank you so greatness.

So now let's pray. Let's close the service. You know,

tonight we're going to talk about God's greatness. Okay, my reason,

But why I told that story? But many times we

battle for greatness and sometimes we have this wrong concept

or idea about greatness. Tonight we're going to look at

the scripture, and we're going to look at the greatness

of God and someone forty five. If you have your

Bible with you, verse one, starting in verse one to five,

it says, I will extoll you, my God and King,

and bless your name forever and ever. Every day I

will bless you and praise your name forever and ever.

Great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised, and

his greatness is unsearchable. One generation shall command your works

to another, and shall declare your mighty acts on the

glorious splendor of your majesty and on your wonder's works.

I will meditate. Can we just bow our heads and

close our eyes and pray, Lord, we declare your greatness Today. Lord,

we exalt you, like David teach us to bless your

name every day, forever and ever, not only when times

are good, not only when things are doing well, but Lord,

in all seasons, at all times. I pray, Lord, God

weak and bless your name. Lord. We thank you that

we will declare your greatness, not just us, but even

our children and our children's children. Lord, even the next

generation will testify about your greatness. So Lord, thank you. Lord,

teach us also to meditate on your greatness in Jesus name. Amen. Okay,

I really want to focus on verse three, where it

says great is the Lord greatly to be praised, and

his greatness is really unsearchable. So for those of you

who had been Christians already for quite some time, you

know that there are many translations of the Bible. We

have the King James version, we have the New King

James Version, we have the New International Version, we have

the English Standard version, we have the Message Translation, New

Live In Translation, Amplified Bible Translation, all kinds of translations.

There are more than one hundred translations available for us

in the English language. Some are corrupted, but there are

really many that are really helpful for us to better

understand the Bible and have greater appreciation of God's word. Now,

the reason for that is the Bible was originally written

in Hebrew, that's the Old Testament, and then it's written

in Greek the New Testament. Since many of us are

not Greek speaking people or Hebrew speaking people, it needed

to be translated into English. Now, when they translated the

Bible into English, there are specific focus. Now we have

what we call the word for word. Normally it's under

three categories or three types of translation. And please bear

with me, I'm going somewhere with this. We have the

word for word, we have the thought for thought, and

then we have the paraphrase. Now here's the difference of that,

your word for word translation. You know, the focus of

the Triologians and the people who work together in translating

the Bible into English. Their focus is to be faithful

in translating it word for word, so that when we

study the Bible there's the accuracy for word for word.

For example, if it's written in Hebrew like tagalog soon

talks of one, they would translate that to punch in

the moon something like that. Okay, that's just me. And

word for word is es V, the New King James

version of the Bible. ESV is what we use in

church for study, for preaching, for teaching. Now the paraphrase

is like the commentary of the word for word. Now,

the focus of the people who work together and translating

the Bible in the paraphrase, which is the message translation

and all this translations. The focus is to give it

a modern translation. Som Sun talks finanslate Nila. Word forward,

punching the moon's a paraphrase good luck, parangam or boom,

David wants to fight Goliath. It's like punching the moon.

David wants to fight Goliath. Boom. It gets now that

thought for thought is the combination of word forward and paraphrase.

They want to be accurate word forward, but they want

to give it a modern translation so that it will

be easy for us to understand. So the thought fore

thought is like the NIV version that NLT. Maybe it

will be translated like it's like trying to reach the moon.

Maybe that's the thought for thought. So punching the moon boom,

it's like trying to reach the moon. So all of

these are helpful because it gives us a different angle

as we look into the Word. Now, I said all

that because what I want to do to as we

try to unpack verse three is use three different translations

and see how it was translated, so that we will

have a better understanding and appreciation. When the Bible said

that the greatness of God is unsearchable, what do you

mean by that? What do you mean when you say

it's unsearchable? And That's what I want to do. And

I'm trusting that I as I preach God's word, God

will use his word to expand our understanding and to

elevate our perspective of the greatness of God, and I

hope it will impact our lives. I'm praying that I

can't give justice to explaining the greatness of God in

thirty minutes, but I'm trusting that God will bless the

preaching of the Word, and that God will speak beyond

my words, and that God will speak to you, specially

in connection to where you are in your walk with God.

So here we go. First, one, I'd like to look

at the NIV translation of verse three. It says great

as the Lord and most worthy of praise. His greatness

no one can fathom. So it was translated greatness is unsearchable.

It was translated to no one can fathom. It means

no one can completely comprehend who God is and no

one can completely comprehend what God does. Now, I had

the privilege of working with this guy, Andrew Wee. Okay

that Andrew E. Show the picture of Andrew Wi. He's

now our admin pastor in Victory Malatte, Okay. And but

before that we I worked with him for a few

years in campus ministry as youth pastor. So his campus

director Victory Malati and campus director of Victory You belt

work together. Is a brilliant guy. He took up Bachelor

of Science and Statistics major in actuarial science in the

LaSalle I'm not really sure what that course is, actorial science.

Maybe they make they do they make aquariums or something

like that. Now after graduation, he took up Master all

in mathematics. Not sure why he's so fascinated with numbers.

So sometimes but every time we ask him to do

a presentation of the statistics of the work we're doing

in Metro Manila. As a campus ministry. They will give

us the statistics of how many high school students, first

year students, college students, a number of students committing suicide

or early pregnancy, and all of these statistics and the

probabilities and all technic papresents a short circuit go overheat.

It's just too much for me. I only you know

my my intelligence level when it comes to mathematics, it's

just really average. I only know some addition, multiplication, division, subtraction.

I can do that with the help of calculator. The calculator,

but that don't guy, I'm in amazing. We're not in

the same level. It's really impossible for me to understand

the how it works. So sometimes I being Savania bro,

we trust you. I trust you alm what tim I am.

But you know I will not force myself to do that.

As I think of that, I think that's a good

picture of us and God when it comes to his greatness,

especially in the area of wisdom and understanding no wonder.

In n IV it says that He's great, and his

greatness no one can fathom. And I think it's it's

referring to what he knows. God is great, his thoughts

are higher than our thoughts. He's wiser than any of

us in this room. We can combine our intelligence and

still it's like it's like my one and a half

years old kid in me. When I talk to him.

Sometimes there are things I cannot explain to him because

of the level that he's in. Sometimes, Lord, but Lord,

I demand an explanation. But yo part one and a

half year old Dabata Sabin A Lord, Bob explains to you,

we can't. He's great. That's why we can trust God.

That's why there's room for faith. That's why we can

just worship God. You know, there are times what I

need is not an explanation. What I need is faith,

because I just know there's something that God is doing.

In the midst of that. First Corinthians, chapter thirteen, verse nine,

it says, for we know when part, and we OFFICI

in part, we know in part. In Deuteronomy twenty nine,

verse twenty nine, the secret things belong to the Lord,

our God. But the things that are revealed belong to

us and our children forever that we may do all

the words of this law, everything we need to know

about God, everything we need to know about this plan

of salvation, everything we need to know in order for

us to walk with God. The revealed things, the Bible

says is for us in our children. But there are

things in life, in our lives where it will remain

a secret forever. Not because God wants to keep secrets,

but it's just that we cannot fully grasp and understand,

so it will. I mean, there are things in our

lives now, the co Alumlord that's too much for me.

That's why. In Proverbs chapter three, verse five to six,

and here's the exhortation for us, how do we respond

to this great God? It says, trust in the Lord

with all your heart. Everyone say trust trust in the

Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on

your own understanding in all your ways. Acknowledge Him in

all your decisions, in all your actions, and He will

make straight your paths in other translations, and he will

grant you success. There are things that is really beyond

our understanding. God can see the future. We don't. We

can plan for the future, but in reality we don't

exactly know what will happen tomorrow. That's why we have

to trust God. It may look good, sounds good, feel good,

taste good now, but I need the wisdom of God

because so many things. The Bible says, there are ways

that seems good to a man, but in the end

it leads to death. We don't always know what's best

for us. But thank God, we have a great God.

I mean, if you are grateful, we have a great

God who knows more than we do. No one can

fat them. Second is the message translation. This is more

of the paraphrase, and it says God is magnificent. He

can never be praised enough. There are no boundaries to

his greatness, no boundaries to his greatness. Now God is

great because of what he knows. But this time God

is great because of what he does. There's no boundaries

to his greatness. I was reminded of the story in

Exodus where Moses spoke to God through the burning bush.

I mean, if you are familiar with the story the

Prince of Egypt cartoon, there's this burning bush and God

was talking. There's a voice. And after forty years of exile,

because Moses tried to run away from Egypt, he killed

an Egyptian and the pharaoh knew about it, and so

he was cared for his life. So he ran away

from Egypt. And he hid for forty years in the wilderness.

Forty years. God came to Moses and said, it's time

to go back. And by the way, if you made

a mistake, if you have regrets because of what you've

done in the past, and you're thinking, can I redo it?

Is there's still hope that for the future. Let me

tell you God's plan for you continues. Your mistake will

not stop God from fulfilling his plan and destiny for

your life. And so there's so. And then Moses was there,

and then Sabini mos I convinced that Lord, I'll go

back to Egypt. But when they if they ask me

who's sending me, what would I tell them? M big

I am? I am who I am? You know why,

because there is no word that God can use to

describe his greatness. There's there's just no word that would

encapsulate that would describe the greatness of God. So he said,

just tell them I am. And I think the modern

translation of that what God is trying to say to

Moses is that tell them whoever they need me to be,

I am you need me to be your provider. I am.

You need me to rescue you. I am your rescuer.

You need healing. I am. You need salvation for your

whole family. I am. You need the restoration of your marriage.

I am. You know some people people are great normally

in just one or two areas and that's it. They're

not great in all areas. Michael Jordan was considered to

be the greatest basketball player who ever played in the NBA,

but there was a point in his life where he

crossed to baseball. He played baseball for a short period

of time and then went back to basketball. You know why.

He discovered he can never be as great in baseball

like he was in basketball, so he went back. You

know a lot of people are like that. They are

great in one area, but that's it. They are great

in business. But bring them another profession or they're not

going to be great. You know. The difference with God

is that he is great in all areas. There is

no boundary to his greatness. That's why he said, I am,

I am. And I was talking to my daughter, and

I can't remember exactly the age, but she was very

afraid of cockroach. And let's say a cockroach cockroach. So

Sunisia one time went to the I went to the

room and then I said, oh, what's happening? Cockcrowd? Cut

the long story short. Here's exactly. I think that's a

teachable moment. That's a discipleship moment. You know, if you're

a parent, you always look for that discipleship moment. You

always look for an opportunity to teach about God, teach

about the Gospel. So I said, Jessica, come here, how

small is the cockroach? I mean, how big is the cockroach?

This big? How big are you? This big? Now? How

big is Daddy? Yeah? This is big? I mean you

know this big. Now. What I'm trying to show her

is that this is just small. You're freaking out. You're

a big Dad is big. I can take care of this. Okay,

No one need to be scared of cockroach. P Hey,

you're bigger. So I was start trying to think, but

I'm trying to point that to God. You know, the

same way with God. Sometimes the things that makes us

freak out, Sometimes the things that make us doubt the

faithfulness and the goodness of God, when we compare it

to how big he is, it's so small it's like

God saying, I don't problaim a more cockroach. I can

take care of that. If there's really a God, and

if you really have a relationship with this God, and

if he is really great as he claims to be,

how many of you know our problem is small compared

to this big God who can take care of that.

I know some of you you're you came here carrying

heavy burdens. Maybe for some of you here you're not

sure if you still have a job tomorrow, or maybe

you're your marriage is falling apart, or maybe you have

a son or a daughter's rebellious and you don't know

what to do anymore. I don't know what burden you're carrying,

and I don't mean to make light of that burden

that you have, But if you compare that, what I'm

trying to say is, if you compare that to how

gracious and great our God is, it's small. If I

really have a big God that will put that problem

in it in proper context. Yes, this is a legit concern,

but in light of who my God is, this will

be taken care of. There is a solution to this problem.

This may not end overnight, but with my God, I

will overcome this problem. I will, I will overcome this problem.

You know why, because I have a big God. I

mean that you're grateful that you have a big God.

We have a great God. No lasting and then going

to end. In NLT translation, here's how it was translated.

Great is the Lord's most worthy of praise. No one

can measure his greatness. No one can measure. Normally, we

measure people's greatness by the wealth that they have, or

the title or possession, or achievements that they or or

the recognition that they receive. That's how we measure people's greatness.

In Mayama yen great, matalinen great, wait see Appelia great.

We measure just like in basketball. If you're following while

on Camatai and comparison Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant, Lebron James,

I mean, they measure the greatness of these players based

on the trophies, the achievements, the championship rings, the MVP

awards that they receive. They keep on comparing, they keep

on measuring. But you know what the Bible says, you

can measure someone's greatness, but when it comes to God,

no one can really measure. There's just no measure for

God's greatness. Consider the following. And I really enjoyed researching

this last night. I slept late. I enjoyed it. But

I just I'll just give you a little portion of

what I researched. You know, the Sun, and when I

when I was researching this, because I need to know

high school, I never could only encounter. I'm so amazed

and fascinated. The Sun is the biggest star in our

solar system. And you know how big the Sun is.

It can fit one point three million earths inside planet Earth.

One point three million can fit inside the star. And

if you think the star is already massive, and that's

that big, the star is one of the average size stars.

The Sun is one of the average size star in

the Milky Way galaxy hundreds of billions of stars at first,

and Niko might imagine, hah, hundreds of billions of stars. Actually,

it's estimated three hundred billion stars. The Sun is just

one of them, and one of the average size star.

Here's the two biggest, two of the biggest stars. The

first one is Rigel, which is seventy eight times larger

than the Sun. That's the Sun and this is rigel. Wow.

And here's the biggest so far that scientists have discovered.

They are yet to discover the others. Canis majorities, which

is estimated to be one thousand and five hundred and

forty times the size of the sun. Multiply the sun

to one thousand, five hundred and forty times, that's how

big the star is. And sometimes you know we are

we just get to focus and consume with our own

life and needs. It's just our tiny that of life,

and we fail to see that there's something bigger than us.

There is a God who created all of these things amazing.

So you don't believe in creation, you don't believe that

God created all of these things, you'll have a hard

time making up an alternative. Sanka gali and said, not lasso.

We met Amami and Mammy. Where did we come from?

Sabidamami and oh, we came from God. Daddy. Where did

we come from? We came from monkeys. The litush belicha

dad is talking about his side of the family. So

which side are you from? I don't know, But how

many of you believed? God is your maker? And God

created all things? And it's not only you he created.

He created the earth, He created the entire universe Hebrews,

Chapter eleven, verse three. By faith we understand that the

universe was created by the word of God, so that

what is seen was not made out of things that

are visible Some nineteen, verse one. The heavens declared the

glory of God, and the sky above proclaims his hand

the Word. This is the masterpiece of God, massive and

last thing. Psalm A three four. When I look at

your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and

the stars which you have set in place. What is

Man that you are mindful of him? And the Sun

of Man that you care for it? You know, if

you're amazed with the size of the sun and all

the universe, you know what's even more amazing is that

this great God would even care about you. That's why David,

I mean Saubron, mind boggling for David, intend hands, Sabin

and Lord Tikom. I imagine, how can somebody as great

as you would actually take time to listen to me,

would actually take time to care for me. You know

what God cares for you, This great God, It's not

just somebody who is out there. He don't want to

be your personal genie that you only call upon when

you need something. But Mikael, no, he doesn't want to

be your genie. He wants to have a personal relationship

with you. And when when that? I when when finally

God allowed me to understand that. It changed my life

and wow, I can actually have a relationship with this

great God. That's why I want to encourage you. Don't

just go to church, don't date the church. Know this

God and have a relationship with him. He's a great God.

He's a personal God. How do you respond to him?

You respond through worship. You respond by faith, trusting him

everything about your life. And third, one of the ways

we can respond to this great God is by serving him,

by serving him. In fact, everything we have and everything

about you is designed to give him glory, to serve him.

Thank you you know. In Matthew chapter twenty, verse twenty eight,

it says, even as the Son of Man came not

to be served, but to serve and to give his

life as a ransom for many amazing God that patica

young is served them in Lord. But you know what

the Bible says, He came not demanding us to serve him.

He served us first, how by giving his life for

us on the cross, so that you and I today

can be here and experience life to the full. I

mean of you are grateful for what Christ has done

for you, for the life to the full. He served

us because he served were change. We're saved, and I

believe God did that not only to benefit us, but

God showed us an example how to be great. God

redefined greatness. Greatness for many people is what I accumulate,

what I get, or how many people serve me. God said,

you got it wrong. Greatness is not how many people

are serving you. Greatness is how many people are you serving.

How many people have experienced changed life because of your life.

How many people are now worshiping God because you serve them.

You use your talent, you use your resources, you use

your life so that that marriage, that family, those children,

that dad, that mom can be worshiping God today. God

wants to use us to serve Him and to serve others.

Something that you hear, you want to be used to

God to be a blessing to other people. To change

your prayer from bless me, bless me, bless me. Graduate

from that. Change the prayer from bless me, bless me,

bless me, change it to Lord, use me to be
