Jesus Is the Teacher Who Leads You Into Truth

so that you win. Amen. We're looking at a series

we began last week. Jesus is okay, and I just

want the character, the nature, the quality of the Lord

to come alive. All of us have thoughts ideas how

we were raised, maybe what we've studied up to this point,

pictures all this of who we think Jesus is and

what he looked like or what he did and so forth.

But I think if we can under stand him even

more as a person because he was a man. I

said he was a man, you can relate to him

even more. Now who's here on earth representing him right now?

The Holy Spirit is here to help you to be

able to relate to the man who's God but a man.

And I believe when we get that in our heart

and our spirit, it helps bridge this gap that we

can have, because we don't need a gap. We need

to see Jesus and who he is. So last week

we looked at he's my best friend and what we

developed through that is the first thirty years of his life,

he was just a person. I said. He lived life.

He was probably a carpenter for eighteen years. He would

have gone in the family business at age twelve. He

did that to age thirty. He dealt with customers that

weren't satisfied. As I said last week, no nail gun,

no power saws. He did all this by hand. His

family thought he was crazy when he went into ministry.

They actually came to capture him one time. Read it.

It's a drama in the Bible. Can you imagine your

family coming with the straight jacket here put this on.

I mean that's basically what they were doing. They thought,

who in the world, what is he thinking and doing?

So we looked at several things that he did so

that we can relate to him with our human nature,

because he was a human being. Oh, yes, he's God.

We're not diminishing that. We're not diminishing the three years

of his ministry and all that he did. And we'll

get into that as we get closer to Easter. But

he still was a person. So that was that week,

and then two weeks ago when I was out of state,

Jeanette spoke and I still have people calling me and

texted me and stopping me every day what they did

for him. So I haven't heard that message yet, but

please listen to it about your assignments. And the week

before that, Pastor Eric Gilbert was here and did a

fantastic job. But we're using this is a theme verse

as we launch it. In one Corinthians two one through two,

Paul is speaking. He says, you'll remember, friends, that when

I first came to you, this is now after the

Lord has descended to heaven and so forth. I didn't

try to impress you with polished speeches and the latest philosophy,

which is what many people even want today. They would

rather have philosophy that they can tuck into their brain

that doesn't challenge the transformation that they need in their life.

And we all need transformation. And I don't care how

long you've been saved, you still need transformation. It's an

ongoing process. Or you can just be satisfied with philosophy.

Lord change me in Jesus's name, And then he says

I deliberately kept it plain and simple. I can relate

to that. First, Jesus and who he is. That's what

we're really are trying to study. Then Jesus in what

he did, Jesus crucified. Now, what is something we can

look at today that we can expand our perspective of

who Jesus is. As I said last week, we looked

at he was our best friend. Well, let's look at

Jesus the teacher. Jesus the teacher. This is not a

complicated message, but the main thing I want you to

see and remember, Jesus modeled everything he taught. That's the

takeaway for today. He modeled what he taught so that

you could mimic and imitate what he did. That's a

good teacher. That's the best teacher. Jesus was the greatest

teacher you ever lived. In the four Gospels Matthew, Mark, Luke,

and John at least forty eight times he is mentioned

or referred to as the teacher. So we couldn't pass

this up. People would follow Jesus to some of the

most remote places when he was trying to rest or

be with his disciples, and yes, they were looking at

from miracles and healings and so forth, and we'll cover

that aspect is one of the things of his nature.

But they wanted to hear him speak too. They wanted

to hear him teach because it was just taking everything

from the Old Testament and bringing it over in the

New Testament, where there's the whole transformation of your nature,

and doing away with the rote of the law and

mechanically serving God to understanding him with your heart. So

they would find they would skip eating, hallelujah, whatever they

had to do so they could hear him speak. He

was so relevant, he was authentic. He I mean, he's

just so concerned. That's our Jesus. And when I think

about a great teacher, I think about what Jesus did,

and he taught it by example. He lived it. He

didn't just tell you what to do like a dictator

who lived high moightily in a different echelon of life

and come out and come down to his subjects and

his servants and those that are supposed to obey him

and tell them to do all this stuff and then

retreat back up to the hills somewhere and live a

totally different life. No, he shows us what to do.

He demonstrated what to do so we could follow him.

Jesus the teacher has something to say. Not only is

it an answer for you, not only is he the

answer for you, but you can follow him as an example.

In John thirteen, Jesus was talking to his disciples and

he says this getting ready for his death, burial and

resurrection eventually, and he's going to wash their feet and

so forth. He says this, I have set you an example.

In other words, my life has been an example that

you should do as I have done for you and

of you that teach, you coach, you work with people,

you have a staff, you have people under you at

work or whatever. You show them as an example what

you do, and then you want them to follow that example.

That's what Jesus has done for us. The question is

are we following his example? This was way before any

other thing in his heart. Let me live it, let

me be your friend, Let me live it so you

can glean it from my life and then follow me.

And at this point right here is really going to

demonstrate humility. He didn't just say be humble. He got

down on the ground and he washed their feet, knowing

what was getting ready to happen. The teacher elevated the

feet of Judas, knowing that he was going to betray him.

I think about it, if you knew somebody's getting ready

to betray you, you might elevate their feet and then

flip them over. You know what I'm saying. Oh no,

not Jesus. He washed his feet. He elevated the feet

of Peter, knowing he was going to deny him. See

when you've read the Bible so many times in his

end of that, you can just gloss over the emotion

or the personhood of Jesus and what he's teaching us.

Jesus knew the disciples would face situations that if they

weren't humble, like he was going ready to show them,

they're going to mess up. Their mouth was going to

get them in trouble. I know none of us are

mouths ever got us in trouble, But you might know

someone you know, when you don't have an example, and

who is our greatest example, because he's the best teacher,

and you don't know what to do, then you just

kind of follow yourself or the example that you set yourself.

Proverbs fourteen twelve. There's a way which seems right to

a man my way, but its end is the way

of death. So left to ourself, we is in trouble.

We need a teacher what's his name? Yes, So with

the absence of that relationship, the one who wants to

be our best friend, the one that wants to be

a teacher by example, we have some tendencies with no example.

We're on our own and we don't know what to do.

So how we handle things. We're going to fix it ourself.

Now I'm not saying that's always bad. I mean God

gives us common sense, I understand that. But things that

are beyond us, things that are more complicated. If we

try to fix it in ourselfs we approach it with

an independent approach. So if there's a marriage issue, or

an addiction issue, or struggle, or a sin issue, don't

rely on yourself. Jesus led by example. If ever, you

have gone to our local detention center to minister, or

you've gone to a prison to minister. A common denominator

amongst all the men there especially is they did not

have a father, They did not have an example to follow.

There wasn't someone guiding them. There's not someone saying don't

do that or do this or watch for this. And

when we fix it ourselves, without teachers, without examples, without

the ultimate teacher, we mess up. I will mess up,

you will mess up. Then what happens Then we try

to learn to live with it. This is my lot,

this is my situation, this is what I've done. Got

to make the best of it, and believing that then

there would be some change. And when you get to

the place where you quit and don't seek help and guidance,

it's just we're just being stubborn. I said, We're being stubborn,

and we've got to be able to say, wait, I've

tried this, that didn't work. Am I just going to

live with this? Or I'm going to allow quote my

salvation experience and feeling of holy ghost experience to take

me to a new spot in the lord? Or am

I just going to put it on cruise and just

kind of suck air and grow old and die. I

don't want to do that, I said, I don't anybody

else want to do that. We need to keep changing

and changing and changing because the teacher wants to help us.

So at last, but not least, when you finally wake up,

what you do, then as you do, turn to God.

And what would be like if we would do that

with our first response all the time. What if we

modeled Jesus as the teacher and mimic him and his

attitudes and his thoughts and his decisions until it becomes

part of our nature. Jesus walked the earth as a man,

not a book of instructions. I said, he walked the

earth as a man, but a man who took humanity

through a process of things that you can see with

the disciples and others and be able to look at

what they did and how they maneuvered in life and

follow that. He knew they would go through times they

wouldn't know what to do, and so He's guiding them

way in advance so that they can make good choices. Again,

the ministry of the Holy Spirit today is to bring

you the uninterrupted attention of Jesus Christ. So when you're

in the Word, and then you're in praise and you

are in worship and you're seeking Him and you're praying,

suddenly you can hear in your spirit the voice of

the Lord what he did and what you're supposed to do.

Because he is the teacher and he wants to teach

you today, don't put yourself here, and he's way over

there and there's this big gulf. No, he wants to

walk real close. And if you remember the illustration last

week that Connelly and Derek did, it was great because

I'm sorry Derek. I mean, Derek had to be the

God who didn't care man, he had to look. He

did a good job with that. And then Connley was

the Jesus walking close wanting to give you his uninterrupted attention.

That's what he wants to do. And as he does it,

it's not just to make your life easy. It's to

teach you so you can make right choices. And when

you make the right choices, even sometimes when it's hard,

he takes you from glory to glory. Turn to him,

Just turn to him. Ephesians five, Verse one. Watch what

God does. Now, how we're going to watch what he does?

What do we have to be in every day? And

then you do it? Watch what he does? Then you

do it like children who learn proper behavior from their parents.

Mostly what God does is love. You keep company with him,

and you're going to learn a life of love. Thank you, Lord.

Jesus did not only give us instructions. He gave us

a great example through his life. And there's a scripture

I love in one Corinthians eleven. It won't come up

on the screen, but Paul speaking, he says, be imitators

of me as I am of Christ. Wow. So what

he did He tried to live his life to imitate,

not be fake, but bring it into his character and

his nature. This is what did. So I'm going to

live it out in front of you, and now you

can follow me. Here's a question. Can people follow you?

Can they follow your life, your thoughts, your choices and

see Jesus Christ. Yes, everybody say yes, that's our aim,

that's our goal. Oh the world needs tell me yep,

what they need all of us to be examples someone

who's listened to the teacher, and we're following his instructions.

So what are just a few examples today that Jesus taught.

We could be on this subject for weeks. But not

only did he teach it, he modeled it. He lived

it out so that we would make the same choice

and live it out ourselves. So what are a few

things that we can see Jesus came to show us.

Number one, how to overcome temptation. How to overcome temptation

Jesus in the wilderness after he was water baptized is

one of the greatest teachings, one of the greatest examples.

It's so powerful. Jesus was in the wilderness, it says

in Matthew Ford. Look it up. Sometimes he was led

there to be tempted. Who understand why, because you've got

to overcome it. You will be tempted, just face it.

It's gonna happen, and normally it sneaks up on you unexpectedly.

And if you're not in the Bible understanding the moral

will of God, remember the door we had up here

for a month and a half, the moral will of

God and the sovereign will of God hearing his voice.

If you're not in that, when temptation comes and you're

not in relationship with the Body of Christ and people

that speaking life to you, it's easy to veer off,

open a door and go a wrong direction where temptation wins.

So he was in the wilderness to be tempted. He

knew it. He knew it was going to happen. And

we're not immune to it either. You need to know him.

You need to know he's going to happen. And I

know I'm going over this over and over, because if

you don't get strong and stay strong when it comes

your way, you fall pray to it. Jesus was praying

and fasting and seeking God in relationship and fellowship for

forty days. You would think he's immune. Well, he's weak

at that point physically, and temptation came. I don't know

if you've noticed this, but sometimes the greatest temptations will

come after one of your greatest victories. Tuck that in

your little spirit. Okay, you have some great victory in

your life and you're excited and you think, man, I'm

making progress. Get ready, there could be a temptation coming

right after that. So he knew this was going to happen.

And we're vulnerable. And guess who comes creeping in all

three of these temptations. Jesus responded with what it is written,

All right, here's our door again. Just picture it up here.

I guess I should have just kept it up here.

But the morral will the Word of God, and I

know many many of you are reading the Word have

got through this year, maybe even more than once. Come on,

let's give yourself a handclapfirm being in the word. Oh

that's week. Come on, I ought to be better than

UK win in a basketball game, you're in the world.

You want to win in life, You've got to be

in the Word. And because when you're in the Word

on a consistent basis, when those things come, that stuff

that you've put in your spirit comes out. It's there

and you're able to You might not be able to

find it, but thank God for your phone and you

can google it real quick and get it, and you

can find that verse and you can get strength and overcome.

He knew what to do. It is written. Listen, Jesus

defeated the devil as a man, as a man, with

the Word of God. Now you can read that. I understand. Yes,

he was God's son, but he laid down all those

privileges when he came to earth to live in a

weakened state, hungry, exhausted, thirsty. A man defeated the devil

with the word. You can defeat the devil as a man,

as a woman, as a child with the word. But

you got to have the word. The teacher is telling

us through his own life example. The power is in

the words. So what is the solution temptation or the word?

Jesus did that those three areas that really any temptation

can relate to the lust of the flesh, lust of

the eye, and pride of life Matthew four to eleven.

Then then the devil left him. Why because of the

power of the word. Then the devil will leave you

because of what the power it's not. Thank God for willpower,

that's great. Thank God for positive thinking, that's great. Thank God.

Running from temptation like Joseph did, that's great. But if

you want to see the devil kind of leave or

a season, and the Word of God has got to

begin to come out of your mouth, out of your spirit.

In combat, the devil left him and the angels came

and attended him. Now wouldn't it be great if you

could literally see the angels coming in strengthening you after

you overcome a temptation. Jesus defeated the devil as a man,

and you can draw strength through the word as well.

Number two, Another thing Jesus the Teacher taught and displayed

is how to face impossible situations. How to face them?

Now I know our nature because I've got one just

like you. When we face impossible situations, we either try

to fix it, or we try to deny it, or

we try to run from it, or we're mad at it.

Come on, help me out right, all that type of

stuff because we don't like impossible situations, respecting them. I'm

spearfilled believer. I'm not supposed to have hard thanks you're

gonna have some hard things. I'm not a prophet of doom.

It's just called earth. And you don't have to let

that become your identity and fold up and quit. Think

of the story of the Lord's friend Lazaruth see now,

please go deeper, thinking him as a man, as a friend,

he was our best friend, he's our teacher. Okay, Lazarus died,

he's buried. Jesus gets there a few days after his burial,

and the two sisters Mary Martha, they're really laying a

guilt trip on him. I mean really they are. You know,

if you had been here, this wouldn't happened, and all

that type of stuff. They faced an impossible situation and

they wanted it resolved on their own timetable. I understand

that that's not bad. All of us want everything resolved

on our timetable we do they did, and Jesus he

had wept over this, and he wept over this when

he got there. We can speculate numerous reasons. Number one,

the loss that was his friend. Number two, he would

have loved to have gotten there and seen the man

healed instead of die, but he had to be obedient

and he had to wait. And I have a feeling

that was hard. Come on, Maybe he was even weeping

that they didn't think he would still be able to

do something. Just just think a moment, just let your

brain think. What was he weeping about? The teacher our

best friend. Jesus asked them, do you believe now your

impossible situation? Let me ask you, do you believe now?

For me? A test I can tell that I'm believing

or trusting. Is I come at rest and I come

at peace. Now the star might be around and all

that type of stuff, but I come at rest and

I come at peace. And so if you're not at

rest and not at peace, don't leave your house, Okay,

don't go out because you spread confusion. And we're supposed

to be example of trusting in impossible situations. You come

at rest and you come at peace. Lazarth had been

dead for four days. It's not like they're still doing

CPR on him. And maybe he's alive. I mean, he's

stinking dead. Are you with me? Okay, he's dead. Jesus

walked up and asked do you believe? And I believe.

Jesus asked us that today, in our impossible situation as

a teacher, do you think I can do it? Do

you trust me? He really was letting the sisters know,

trust me and let me demonstrate God in your life.

Let me demonstrate the resurrection. Now, he said, you believe

in resurrection? Oh yeah, non, he says, no, I am

the resurrection and the life. So for your impossible situation, anybody,

let me see anybody have something that seems impossible. Let

me see your HND. Okay, all right, he is the

resurrection and he's the life. I said, Jesus is your

resurrection and the life for your impossible situation. That's what

the teacher wants you to know today. The solution, what

is it? Faith? Hebrews eleven six. Without faith, it is

impossible to please him. Oh Lord, all I want to

do is live for the glory of God. I've heard that,

so many religious times. Well, great, trust him, live with

faith in your life, because you're not going to please

him otherwise. Living for the glory of God is loving, trusting, believing,

knowing that He's bigger, and I want to please you God.

Number three, they're getting None of these are complicated. But

we've got to see the teacher relaying these not only

to the disciples and the followers of that time, he's

teaching us today how to submit to God's plan. How

to submit to God's plan. Now, this is tough because

we all have flesh. Right you ever hear the phrase, oh,

they're just in the flesh. Have you heard that phrase before?

Come on, let me see heh gens she said that phrase.

What means is I'm about to sin big time. That's

what that means. Are they about to sin big time

when you're in the flesh. Jesus saw the importance of

teaching us obedience, the solution on how to submit to

God's plan obedience. Remember back at the beginning of the

year with the door. Okay, the moral will of God

and the sovereign will of God. In the sovereign will,

we looked at Acts twenty Paul speaking, he says, I

was compelled by the spirit. I was moved by the spirit. Now,

when's the last time you allowed the Lord to move

you by the spirit that takes you out of your routine?

Are your comfort zone or your schedule? That is just

something you had to do. You had to do this.

Are you new you would be disobeying the Lord? How

many know what I'm talking about? And you understand that phrase?

If not, you haven't developed a close walk yet with

the Lord. I'm just telling you because when you walk close,

he just he speaks to you and it's then stuff. Yeah,

you pray about it, but it's stuff. Then you are

to respond to something you're supposed to do, something you're

supposed to follow through with and be a part of

the solution. What have you allowed the Lord to mess

with you about? What is he messing with your heart about? Today?

Then the question becomes do we submit to God's plan

and what he wants to do? Will we be obedient?

Have you truly submitted your life to God? How about

to his will? One Peter two twenty one. To this

you recall because Christ suffered for you? Well, great, he

did it, and I don't have to do it. Leave

you you what an example, as a teacher who modeled it,

then just say it. He taught it that you should

what following his steps? Why don't like that suffering part?

Why don't either? Let's just be honest. Suffering sometimes, though is.

It could be something emotional, it could be something just

painful relationally, whatever it is. But you've got to be

willing to say because your Lord, and I'm not the

things that I face. You're going to help me and

I'm going to follow through in obedience to what you

would have me to do. Lord. I'm going to respond

with the attitude, the action, the thoughts of what you

would want from my life, because you went through all

of this and you're teaching me the teacher you modeled it,

and now I'm going to follow your plan. Yes, are

y'all awake today? I know you lost an hour of sleep.

Jesus prayed, not my will, but yours be done. You

know why he did not want to die on the

cross in his flesh. Sure he knew the purpose, and

sure he was willing to do it, but his flesh

did not want to. It hurt, It was painful, the

rejection of humanity, of his disciples, of all those who

were yelling a week before Hosannah are now yelling crucify.

It was a rough time, but he submitted. Jesus prayed,

if at all possible, God, anyway, let this cup pass,

and you're going to have some cups from the Lord. Sometimes.

I'm not talking about everything's hard and terrible and this,

but you will have some cups. You're gonna have to say,

all right, I'm gonna drink of this and I'm gonna

do what you would have me to do. Lord, if

it all possible, let this cup pass, but not my will,

but yours be done, and every step of obedience. Listen

in my heart. I believe as Jesus took it carrying

the cross, he could just see the countless millions of names,

including yours, that will have a way to go to

the Father, someone filling the gap of perfection and a purity.

So you do not have an eternal separation because there's

no way for you to follow all the Old Testament laws.

You didn't bring any animal to church today to crucify.

I meant, think about it, Jesus, and I'm gonna make

a way. I'm gonna make away. He was willing to

be obedient. So he came to teach us, and more importantly,

he came to model model OBEI he did it. And

then one more thing I want us to look at.

He wanted to teach us how to show unconditional love.

Unconditional love. I know it's easy to read the gospels

and think, oh, what an awesome savior. Please do and

say that, what a great god. He lived a sinless life. Wow,

he saved me. His blood is saved me. He did everything,

and I just reap all the benefits. Well, part of

the benefit is you're supposed to follow his example. And

one of the things is us knowing how to operate

and live in unconditional love. Thank you Jesus for teaching

us how to overcome temptation with the word. Thank you

for having a tangible solution. Thank you Jesus. When I

have possible, impossible situations, you are giving me a way out.

You want me to trust you and let you be

God and come at rest and peace in that, and

You're gonna help me wake my way through. Thank you

Jesus for teaching me the importance of submitting to your plan. Lord.

I'm gonna be obedient to what you show me I'm

to do now, know my unconditional love. We've got to

know it, We've got to experience it and walk in it.

We can't even fully fathom what this word love means

unless it's filtered through the teacher who modeled this. Jesus

modeled this unconditional love. And this is how he taught

us what we're supposed to do, so we can understand.

It's called forgiveness. Everybody say forgiveness. Now, now hear this.

When you receive forgiveness, how many have received that in

your life? Okay? When you receive forgiveness, your heart begins

to expand, to extend that which has been freely given

to you. Your heart begins to expand to give what's

been freely given to you. And the more you extend forgiveness,

not just with words, but I'm talking about your body language,

your nonverbal I'm talking about every fiber of your being.

When you extend that, the more revelation you have of

your own forgiveness, did you hear me? The more you

give it, the more revelation you have of yours. Hear

me about get this, get this? The more I extend it,

the more you extend it the more revelation you're going

to have of your own, and I'm gonna show you

a scripture in a moment. The more you say, well,

I'll get that family member of forty years ago who

then at my fender, I guess I need to forgive them. Yes,

you do, or whatever it is. The more you extend

it with every ounce of fiber within you, the more

you understand what's been given to you. Think about the

lady caught in the act of adultery. They bring her

to Jesus for him to condemn her. Jesus looks at her.

Be free, I forgive you. Leave this life of sin,

turn and be free, he was teaching everyone watching. This

is how you forgive. Jesus is at a dinner party.

The lady walks in with this jar, expensive jar of perfume,

breaks it, pours it over. The Lord begins to wipe

his feet with her hair, and she's weeping and praying,

I'm sure, and just trying to love the Lord the

best she knew how. And in Luke seven, verse forty seven,

it says this, because everybody's making fun of her, this

could be sold and given to the poor and all that. Therefore,

I tell you her many, many many sins, her many

sins have been forgiven, and her great love has shown.

I watch this, But whoever has been forgiven little loves little.

I'll tell you what you want, a big check of

how spiritual we are as an individual, family, church, body

of Christ, whatever, How well can you love unconditionally? And

the only way you can do that is when you

start getting a greater revelation of your own forgiveness. Because

he who's forgiven little, they don't love that much. There's

not love. There's not this wow man, And I'm not

just doing humanitarian things. That's great and we need to

do that, but that's a door to then bring the gospel.

So if we're not involved, if you're not involved in loving,

you've got a small revelation of your forgiveness. And the

more you begin to love unconditionally, the more you understand

your forgiveness. And you gon find yourself weeping over the

Lord symbolically just thanking him, loving him, And you know what,

He's going to accept it all as a sweet savor

from your life. He taught us. The compassion she was

showing is causing her to experience her own forgiveness. She

knows where she's been, she knows what she's done, and

she's overwhelmed with tears. All I need to do is

to just show the Lord I love him. I've got

to care for him, to do something for him that's

costly and demonstrates that I want to do something different.

And Jesus said, Wow, she loves a lot. She loves

a lot. Forgiveness expands our capacity to love because it

purifies our heart. And the Bible says, blessed her those

who have a pure heart. You know why, you know

what the scripture says, they're going to see God. So

that unconditional love, it purifies your heart. Maybe there's someone whatever,

you just need to forgive. And when we forgive, it

allows us to love unconditionally. Jesus taught us that he

demonstrated it, he lived it. He's dying on the cross.

They've done all these horrific things to him, and he says, Father,

forgive them. They don't know what they're doing. And can

we do that in any situation where we need to

be extending forgiveness. Father, just forgive them. They don't know

what they're doing, because you showed me unconditional love. You

demonstrated it. And you show me how to overcome temptation.

You showed me how to face impossible situations. You showed

me how to be obedient. So last thought here and

we're going to stand. Jesus did not come to earth

just to die. That was his ultimate goal. He came

to teach us how to live. Because you ain't dead yet.

You need to know how to live. I said, you

need to know how to live. He taught us, he

demonstrated it. Now we have a big responsibility to eat

of that every day until it becomes second nature for us,

just second nature. Let's stand experienced it. Thank you for listening.
