  3. all over the Philippines. We hope that this podcast finds

  4. you in good shape. And now here's your message.

  5. You were listening to a message from Victory. We hope

  6. it inspires you to honor God and make disciples in

  7. your community.

  8. Last chapter of the Book of John, which is the Gospel.

  9. What a way to end the gospel with this story.

  10. If you're really familiar about the encounter of Peter with

  11. our Lord Jesus Christ. After here, before he ascended to

  12. the heaven to the Father, he really had a.

  13. Divine encounter with our Lord Jesus Christ.

  14. So Peter was one of the most controversial, if not

  15. the most popular disciple of all time.

  16. It might be for some reasons, might be popular for pop.

  17. So maybe Peter is both okay, because of his uh, flamboyant,

  18. fragile personality. You know, Peter was what's called really his

  19. name is Simon, which is a wish.

  20. He was a pebbulous stone, okay, So, but he was

  21. renamed Peter.

  22. Like some other people who are here. You were named

  23. by your parents, no, without any choice. Your name as Stilo,

  24. I'm Estelito by birth. I cannot do anything, but I

  25. need to make my nickname a little cute Tito.

  26. Okay and la Right.

  27. So some of you may be Provopio okay, Anastacio a

  28. lot Bonifacio.

  29. But you know names are names, okay, and names are.

  30. Symbols of who we are and God is in sovereign power.

  31. We name Simon to become Peter, which means table, strong

  32. in stature and in posture. But when we read the

  33. Peter in the Bible, it's not the case. We can

  34. see Peter is different. But what matters most is how

  35. God sees us.

  36. You know that that God sees us.

  37. Differently in how we see ourselves. That's why when you

  38. fish the mirror every day, you can see a person

  39. that is not typical of what we want to be right.

  40. We want to be kindly different in everything that we do.

  41. Peter's life is a classic example of what we have

  42. a trading disciple but always fails. There's a lot of

  43. people nowadays want to follow the Lord, but they felt

  44. like they're a failure. They become unfaithful to the calling

  45. of God in their own life. Let's look into some

  46. of the highlights of Peter's life during the time he

  47. was here.

  48. So Peter's impulsive highlight. First, he stated that he would

  49. never deny knowing Jesus.

  50. Yet before the next morning he had denied him three times.

  51. Lord Digita, they deny it chatter, and then the following

  52. morning three times they deny naphil cream denially. Peter Becausino

  53. Nasa us embassy fifteen years ago, I was denied four

  54. times okay, deny within a five hundred US visa maha

  55. one hundred and fifty dollars okay. So he was also

  56. one who would basically step out of the boat walk

  57. on the water towards Jesus. Then he realized his faith

  58. wasn't as great as he thought, and he started to

  59. sing trabno the impulsiveness of Peter to do things on

  60. a mazmabilisi maxalitak is a magisia okat okay okay.

  61. Then Jesus started to reveal that he was going to

  62. be killed.

  63. Peter rebuked him and said that would never be done

  64. to you, Jesus, And the Lord says, get thee behind me,

  65. satan okay mission not ten times a bin you know,

  66. Samarai biganating a man tribe nothing, get this behind met him.

  67. And that's what real day, the real score of Jesus

  68. seeing Peter to be an hindrance to the general plan

  69. of God for salvation. And another instance, and when Jesus

  70. was arrested in just semone in the guard and Peter

  71. drove his sword and cut off the ear of the

  72. high priests sleeve tangal you know, know, but you know

  73. what the target is not the ear, is the neck mail.

  74. He could be a murderer at that time. And when

  75. John and Peter came to the empty Tooman Easter morning,

  76. John respectfully stood at the doorway, but not Peter.

  77. He was rushed in and saw he situated. Then he

  78. ran home.

  79. Terrified. Patty nothing, because Peter is a pet It was petrified.

  80. So Peter is the most likely person that we would

  81. ever love. Comerica Peter A Moyan he and friend Usa

  82. Facebook and like Moyan Iomusa. Okay, there are some people

  83. we love and the people we don't like, but it's okay.

  84. We have the right to like people and love people

  85. as well. So with all this scenario and condition that

  86. Peter had in his life as a growing disciple, he

  87. felt the heaviness of being a failure.

  88. Have you ever felt a failure in your life? Have

  89. you ever felt that?

  90. You know Molana Pagassa, I stop, I quit, I will

  91. never never walk this way again. I'll stop whatever I do,

  92. I do what is right before my eyes. Peter had

  93. that kind of sense of failure. When a person had

  94. a sense of failure, they experience these things.

  95. First. They were discouraged, a difficulty to move on, diminished.

  96. They felt so weak. They don't want to wake up

  97. in the morning. They always want to sleep all day long.

  98. Ban tao okay, while and texts everything his drug. He's

  99. then motivated, inspired, uninspired, very slow, static. He wants to

  100. be alone, isolated people, and that is depressed, very sad, somber,

  101. sense of laws and security. I make psychologists by professional

  102. and pastor our counselor many of my I call the

  103. clients are suffering from depression, and mind you, if there

  104. is a hospital for emotionally unhealthy people, it would be

  105. pulled back.

  106. They're a lot.

  107. Even in the stage when you go to the States,

  108. antidepressent drug are just over the counter.

  109. It's like bio Jessic.

  110. It's like diatabs okay, and everything that you can buy

  111. overhound without the receipt because it's common.

  112. But depression is very dangerous and we can see that

  113. in the life of.

  114. Judas who hung himself. He cannot take it because of

  115. his failure. Our sense of failure and guilt are hurtful experiences.

  116. It's hard.

  117. We don't want to undergo these things. And how many

  118. of us here can relate what I'm saying right now? Okay,

  119. it's hard. It is easier said than done. Madalign modali

  120. la sabina Okay, is hard because in the eco you

  121. make a tawanah sometimes people you know, that's very senseless.

  122. Okay, why are you suffering this time? Etcetera. But you

  123. know this is not who you are and this is

  124. not the person you're talking to.

  125. But God and his grace enables us to recover and

  126. enables us to move towards what God wants us to have.

  127. In this story.

  128. In Johan twenty one, it depicts upon the life of Peter,

  129. the disciple, who loved Jesus so much, but his love

  130. cannot decontained to his actions and faithfulness in following the Lord.

  131. Like any other disciples like us. We love the Lord

  132. so much, she need to well.

  133. Okay, and maybe ten or twenty times a week is

  134. what Peter is experiencing during those times. So our mandate

  135. really is to follow Jesus. And John twenty one gave

  136. us a classic illustration of what the son we should

  137. learn as a disciple. What are the three lessons that

  138. Peter really realized and encountered while with Jesus. Number one,

  139. we need to follow Jesus with humility. Simon Peter said

  140. to them, I'm going for fishing. They said to him,

  141. we will go with you. They went out, got into

  142. the boat, but the night came they caught nothing. Just

  143. as they were breaking, Jesus stood on the shore. Yet

  144. the disciple did know that it was Jesus. Jesu said

  145. to them, children, do you have any fish? They answered no.

  146. He said to them, cast your net on the right

  147. side of the boat and you will find some. So

  148. they cast it, and now they were.

  149. Not able to haul it because of the quantity of fish.

  150. In fact, the number of fish that they caught was

  151. one hundred fifty six, and the Bible typically say it's

  152. large fish.

  153. Large kay lapu lapu.

  154. No Hindi Dili is Hindi toyo and akuhanela large and

  155. the miracle is Hindi napun net. It's only because Jesus

  156. wants to make a statement because during that time magolion Niepeter,

  157. he said, I'm going out fishing. He's saying something Tapusna

  158. one chapter Napagagan disciple.

  159. Call, I'll go back to where I belong. I went

  160. to do it my way, not the Lord's way.

  161. You always do it your way, right, my way, and

  162. Mamma Tatao.

  163. Okay, my way.

  164. You always want to do it your way, and she

  165. just said, no, it's not your way, it's my way.

  166. You see, you spend all night long. You said you're

  167. an expert fisherman, and you got Tidi my master fishermen

  168. said he's a master fisher and all night long. And

  169. it's un characteristic for fishermen to throw their nets to

  170. the right side, because that norm is that you always

  171. throw your net to the web side.

  172. You see, Sidney Peter. But man, k we're expert fishermen. Okay,

  173. you're as a carpenter.

  174. Have in it coming to run into but to their

  175. shame and never realizing Peter.

  176. Now, Jesus Christ not just a master carpenter. He's the

  177. lord of all creation.

  178. He can dictate all the fish to go everything to

  179. the right rather than to the left, and take a

  180. hold on fifty six toma. But that's the only thing,

  181. the maximum number.

  182. Of fish that they can hold. What are we trying

  183. to say here?

  184. Jesus is teaching great humility to Peter the disciple. He's saying, Lord,

  185. I can do something for myself. Maybe I can be

  186. okay here, kume or respect as are really Lord is

  187. a professional pigan fishermen.

  188. And it's like what we are right. If we do

  189. something we fail, we do and come back and do

  190. something that we're used to do. And there's a high

  191. degree for us to be successful.

  192. Kay Lord babayanganyan connectionan popular compromises many and God is

  193. teaching us something on humility. Whenever will fail, all that

  194. it's better to fail than fail to follow. Right, it's

  195. always for us where we fail, it's okay, because no

  196. one really becomes successful without failing. But what God wants

  197. us to have is to humble ourselves before him. Whoever

  198. humbled himself shall be lifted up. God will always want

  199. us to be humble servants of the Lord.

  200. It's no amount of.

  201. Smartness, the amount of intelligence is no amount of discarded

  202. for what they are.

  203. That brings about success in life.

  204. If you're a Christian, you yield upon the power and

  205. the success that God once we have. We need to

  206. have that kind of habitual dependence on God. Habit means

  207. you always do it every day, you always keep you

  208. remind yourself. I need to be humble because you know

  209. what the reality is. La taile my album, my abam

  210. let to ourselves, myabum tail Magao mayaban Taile. Why because

  211. that's part of sinful nature. Christian Kela, you learn to

  212. be humble. I still have a picture of my student

  213. life thirty six years ago, this tech heart travel in

  214. nineteen eighties. Okay, Panama ni di babel to make it

  215. mahijuan baba Okay. I have that picture in my death

  216. in my ofice table because it always reminds me of

  217. my humble beginnings. I always think about Mysego during that

  218. time thirty years ago when I was student. I was

  219. seventeen years old, then at USD taking up a BS

  220. pharmacy Well Galia Galiza chemistry no, then chemistry one, okay, napilitan.

  221. Pharmacy.

  222. But whenever I look at it, I always learned humbling

  223. moments are I know where I began. I only preached

  224. to a bunch of ten twelve students in a ten

  225. square meter boarding house in the Pitan.

  226. And this is reminded me. I need to humble myself

  227. before before God.

  228. No matter where we are, what we are, Miyama gonna

  229. go Anakaparin and jos Hindikai get taken in. And this

  230. is what God is telling Peter, and this is what

  231. God is telling all of us, that we can never

  232. never outdo God, and we can never never be proud of.

  233. Who we are.

  234. The more we try to force ourselves improve something to ourselves,

  235. the more.

  236. Well God will humble us.

  237. But the more you humble yourself, God will leave you up.

  238. That's why John says, God, Jesus, let you increase and

  239. I decrease. Number two second lesson that Peter understood in

  240. his life Jesus was you need to follow Jesus with integrity.

  241. Integrity is making your word become one with your action

  242. and your attitude.

  243. We can say one thing and do another thing. Remember

  244. this word.

  245. When Jesus asked Peter three times, do you love me

  246. more than this para word no, That is an opportunity

  247. for Peter to validate his love for Jesus. What Jesus

  248. is saying right now to Peter's that words are cheap

  249. ama salita, cheap maram, samatatas nasalita, phosa inde namatamala the India.

  250. Well, that's what God is saying to Peter.

  251. You know, if you love me, feed my sheep, feed

  252. my lamp. Okay, it's not about what you say, is

  253. what you do right as a faithful disciple of the Lord.

  254. What God wants us to have is the integrity of

  255. words and into action. We need to walk the talk.

  256. We can say I love you, and yet we're cheating.

  257. We can say I love you, but we're lying and

  258. deceiving people.

  259. Words are not enough.

  260. Jesus said to Peter, I know you love me so much,

  261. but you need to learn to love put that love

  262. into action by showing your love for me.

  263. In fact, Peter eluded death when he escaped capture.

  264. That's what he's saying, panindigano, panindigristi, pandian. Especially when we're

  265. attempted as Christians to prove who we are. It's a

  266. practical life. Nothing pact fine and bi r tamba nothing

  267. as well.

  268. Do not do we treat people fairly and squarely? Do

  269. we pay the right thing to do?

  270. Are we faithful in every little things that we do?

  271. But God is trying to say to us as disciples

  272. that we need to we need to be faith on

  273. what we're saying.

  274. What Peter is saying to God, to Jesus that Lord,

  275. I cannot have the love that you have for me.

  276. The agapi love is for God and I can show

  277. it Flo. It's fine.

  278. God doesn't expect us to show the love the kind

  279. of love that Jesus did for us.

  280. It's hard. But being faithful in loving our brothers and sisters.

  281. Just like what she said, here, feed my sheep, ten

  282. my land means continue to do what I'm doing to

  283. the people around us. Don't escape the reality. Don't escape

  284. being a disciple. That's how it is to be a

  285. disciple of the Lord. No matter what God's love is

  286. always burning in our soul.

  287. The experience.

  288. There are times when you feel down, but you can

  289. still feel the love of the Lord. You can still

  290. feel the unconditional love of God. Lord the camelina Monaco,

  291. don't go mada man the Lord will not time reddingess

  292. and what the Lord. Continue to move, my son, moving

  293. the way that I want you to be. Continue to

  294. be faithful in my word. Continue to love the way

  295. I love you the most.

  296. But Peter, with his.

  297. Distorted mindset, think about his profession's pride.

  298. It's prestige.

  299. Right when people fail, they always think what would other

  300. people say? Andila an ala al gani tobacco so masado

  301. time in cross image nat and.

  302. Asabin the Lord it called Peter not not failed.

  303. Workups, moved, but follow as a cross a. I'm with

  304. two thieves and no reputations in a sabim A, I'm

  305. the lord of war and the king of kings. I

  306. don't have that reputation. I was crucified with two.

  307. Thieves and handed down.

  308. Daikund reputations in Sabbim and Peter said, really hard for

  309. me to say, I love you.

  310. Bibleba. Peter was grieved because he was asked for the

  311. third time say said dumb damn Lord, Lord and mctamp para,

  312. it's imaginable for us to really think about such thing.

  313. And with this God wants to teach.

  314. Us as disciples and many people whom we are discipling

  315. with to have that kind of attitude in life, you

  316. will never grow.

  317. Now.

  318. I've been a Christian for three decades now, and I

  319. think there's no secret in discipleship. The only thing that

  320. we can continue to do discipleship and be a disciple

  321. is one thing.

  322. Obey the Lord, follow him, Follow God. That's all.

  323. We had no one to emulate and be like than

  324. our Lord, Jesus Christ. The Bible says, be christ Like.

  325. We don't need to be someone whom we are not.

  326. My inspiration is God, My motivation is the Lord.

  327. In my life. God wants us to be where we

  328. are and what we are because of Him.

  329. That's why it's very vivid in the mind of people

  330. what Jesus said, ped my sheep and tend my land.

  331. That's why when he recovered and become awakened to become

  332. a good disciple, then he said in Persepittor five, verse two,

  333. the shepherds of God's flock that is under your care,

  334. watching over them, not because you must, but because your will,

  335. as God wants you to be. Not pursuing this houns gain,

  336. but eager to serve very heavy because he took and

  337. he realized what Jesus said for him.

  338. To have as a disciple.

  339. I have a picture here when I've taken in a

  340. Church of Nativity in Jerusalem, when we were there about

  341. two years ago. This is a picture of a shepherd

  342. carrying a sheep on his back. Okay, when you look

  343. at first of the picture, he said, wow, what a

  344. carrying shepherd.

  345. The guy would like, you.

  346. Know, when the tourist guy told us not, you know,

  347. the the lamb on the back of Pilayan.

  348. He's a people sheep.

  349. His leg was cracked by the shepherd. Why because that

  350. sheep tends to be pass away. He always go to

  351. the ditch and jump. Everyone follow him. Okay, So sometimes

  352. God discipline us. Sometimes God will give some discipline on

  353. our part so that we will learn, and that discipline

  354. we will never forget. And that that's what we call

  355. we we walk with the limb, because you know, whenever

  356. you remember that, you remember the discipline of the Lord.

  357. And you know it's always great to be disciplined by God.

  358. How many of us had been disciplined by the Lord. Okay,

  359. discipline the Lord to go Rome disciplining the Lord to

  360. go room. God discipline us in a way and manner

  361. that God wants us to have in this life.

  362. We cannot escape the discipline of the Lord.

  363. Uh two weeks ago, I can't someone okay, And he

  364. shared to me about his life on how he he

  365. backslidden and take out in the ministry of the Lord

  366. and do a lot of immorality. Then he said to me,

  367. I know in my heart that there will come a

  368. time that I need to suffer and experience the consequences

  369. of this. I escape the discipline of God, but now

  370. never I want the discipline of God to be upon me. Now,

  371. whatever it takes, I will undergo the discipline of God.

  372. And that's how it is makapati.

  373. Never never escape the discipline of God.

  374. Because God loves those whom he disciplined. It's always the

  375. right thing to come to the Lord and be disciplined

  376. by God. One Johan, chapter three, verse sixteen says, this

  377. is how we know that what love is. This is

  378. laid down his life for us, and we ought to

  379. lay down our lives for our brothers.

  380. This is one of the mandate of Jesus to Peter

  381. feed my sheep, feed my lamb. Where are all disciples here?

  382. Being a Christian and being a disciple during the New

  383. Testament is one of the same. Now that there's no gap,

  384. But through the years of life in the modern days,

  385. being a Christian and being a disciple, there's always a

  386. gap in between. Right because of worldliness. Probably there are

  387. men and alto challenges of the world can give. We

  388. try to be enticed by the worldly offers. And there's

  389. a great gap between Christianity and the disciples during my time.

  390. But Christian come have a come Bible during my time

  391. Christian Christian Bible, Bible, okay, And.

  392. It cannot be.

  393. Measured on how the outer appearance that should go being

  394. a Christian church is not the picture that you wear.

  395. It's not the emden that you wear. It's not the

  396. sticker in your car, it's not how big or now.

  397. It's your Bible. Because you yourself is a living epiecele

  398. of God.

  399. Your life is the best testimony of who Jesus is

  400. in your life. So how can we breach that gap? Nowadays?

  401. Is what we call discipleship. Being a Christian you need

  402. to be discipled and make disciples. But if you're not

  403. doing that, that God will continue to widen. People say,

  404. I'm a Christian, and yet we don't see the real

  405. life of Christ in them. It's not easy to be

  406. a Christian. In fact, people says it's impossible.

  407. To be a Christian.

  408. But what is important, then, church, is that Christianity is

  409. not based on your religion, but based on your deep

  410. intimate relationship with God. We have to disciple people. That's

  411. how we need to follow the mandy of Christ. To

  412. follow Jesus in humility, to follow Jesus in integrity, and lastly,

  413. to follow Jesus in simplicity. I will not read the

  414. verse anymore for lack of time. But you know, when

  415. look at the picture. When after Jesus told this story

  416. to Peter, we thought that Peter already got it right, Tealagan,

  417. So you humility, integrity. Then toddenly, Jesus told Peter that

  418. you know you will die this kind of death. He said,

  419. when he looked, he saw John the beloved, okay, and

  420. how about this man?

  421. Okay? So you means when you're suffering and it's not

  422. favorable to us. We look outside the window and tried

  423. to look back, but.

  424. Inda Purple purple, indeed, know what God wants us to

  425. follow in simplicity.

  426. What is simplicity?

  427. Simplicity being focus to follow God and sabini. Lord Peter,

  428. what is it for you if I let this man

  429. live forever? It's none of your business.

  430. What I tell you?
