  3. speakers all over the Philippines. We hope that this podcast

  4. finds you in good shape. And now here's your message.

  5. You're listening to a podcast or from Victory explore the

  6. canon of books that form the New and Old Testaments

  7. in week five of our series word View.

  8. Now let's open our Bible to look chapter twenty four technical,

  9. because really the question that we need to answer is

  10. what is the significance of this to me today? Why

  11. is this important to you? Luke. Chapter twenty four, we're

  12. going to read a story that would show us the

  13. significance of the canon of scripture. And in verse thirteen

  14. we're not going to start. In verse one and verse thirteen,

  15. we're introduced to two travelers, one whose name was not

  16. even mentioned. Look, twenty four is about the resurrection of Christ,

  17. and they know that Jesus said, when after I rise

  18. from the dead, the Holy Spirit will be poured out

  19. in the city of Jerusalem. But in verse thirteen we're

  20. going to read later these two travelers are not going

  21. to Jerusalem. They are actually they are walking away from Jerusalem.

  22. This is where God promised to pour out the spirit,

  23. but they are walking away from it because they are

  24. so discouraged. Some Christians. That's what they do when they

  25. are down. Their initial response is not to show up

  26. in church to isolate, and they're walking. But you know,

  27. God chased them down. Jesus chase them down. Amazing. You

  28. know your two year old, Nah and Hyperno, especially when

  29. we go to the malls. Every time we go out,

  30. it's like me going for a workoutym exercise. I'm running

  31. after my son two years old. Sometimes he would run

  32. going to the escalator. Sometimes he would go to a

  33. crowd of people. Sometimes he would try to run going

  34. out of the mall. So I have because I I

  35. don't want to lose my son. The same way here,

  36. Jesus was chasing them. Not because Jesus was afraid to

  37. lose followers. He did not come here to build a

  38. fan base. He was chasing these men out of love

  39. and compassion. The Bible says, for God, who loved the world,

  40. that he gave his one and only son, It's out

  41. of love. Jesus came and lived among us and died

  42. on the cross and rose again from the dead, so

  43. that you and I can be found, because he doesn't

  44. want to lose you. It's chasing us. Even at times

  45. we are rebellious. He's chasing us now. In verse thirteen,

  46. I'd like us to read verse thirteen. That very day,

  47. two of them were going to a village named Emmaeus,

  48. about seven miles from Jerusalem, and they were talking with

  49. each other about all these things that had happened. While

  50. they were talking and discussing together, Jesus himself drawn near

  51. and went with them, but their eyes were kept from

  52. recognizing him. Jesus was there, standing face to face, but

  53. the Bible says they were kept from recognizing him. Now

  54. I which reminded me of what happened to me and

  55. my wife last December. A wife a gammet every week

  56. last December where we went to pangasin atapast dinner. Does

  57. the girl does pa all smile excited, feeling a parent

  58. instant to unionto your wife. Cora smiled in chaperro galat excited,

  59. galaty confuse. Diniama recognized does have been the girl? Big awkward.

  60. Later on I learned they were childhood friends. She was

  61. standing there and they're talking for around ten minutes. My

  62. wife cannot recognize her. And if I remember right, uh,

  63. they will have a mini reunion after a few days.

  64. So Sabino girl, you have to remember, did you Pakalistia?

  65. My wife tried to look in Facebook. The problem is

  66. she can't remember her name. Wow, even after spending several

  67. years together, she still can't recognize. That's what happened to

  68. these people Last Wednesday. I lost my wallet. I was

  69. working at the fourth and I was preoccupied with a

  70. lot of things. And then when it when it's three

  71. or four o'clock, I need to take a taxi going

  72. here because there's going to be a dinner here for

  73. real life foundation for our scholars. So I was in

  74. a hurry. I was preoccupied. I forgot that. I put

  75. my wallet in front pocket Nikola and basaki and wallet go,

  76. and then I stopped. I know all of this because

  77. in that area there's a building also building a feeling,

  78. and I see the CCTV, so with my Bastos Pino CCTV,

  79. so I saw what happened when I dropped it. I

  80. just stepped one one step. My wallet was there and

  81. I was trying to book a taxi and then I

  82. walked away. It was there, tikunakita h sabin wife, man

  83. make suck it. But anyway I dropped it. I didn't

  84. realize it was there. The Bible says Jesus was there,

  85. but they were kept from recognized. Now, I'm saying all

  86. these things because I want to ask you this question.

  87. What is stopping you from recognizing Jesus? Is there anything

  88. that's keeping you from recognizing him or his work in

  89. your life? For them, it was their wrong standard, their

  90. idea of a messiah. They were expecting a conquering king

  91. who will liberate them from the Roman captivity. They were

  92. under Roman rule and it was hard for them. And

  93. there was a promise that there is a savior, a

  94. messiah who would come and they will be delivered, who

  95. will restore their glory days as a nation. And they

  96. were waiting for a conquering thing, and what came was

  97. a suffering servant. They were kept from recognizing Jesus because

  98. of their standard, wrong standard. They were expecting a crown.

  99. What they saw was across. They were expecting glory, but

  100. what came was suffering. They were expecting Jesus to meet

  101. their standard rather than allowing the Scripture to be their standard.

  102. We are going to be hindered from seeing and experiencing

  103. Jesus if we don't allow the Scripture to become the

  104. standard for life, for faith and doctrine. That's what happening

  105. to some people. They want God to fit to their

  106. standard rather than them aligning to God's standard. In Verse seventeen,

  107. and he said to them, what is this conversation that

  108. you're holding with each other as you walk? So see

  109. Jesus the gla occupied with dirt, frustrations and disappointments, and

  110. joined them tapus Naihalus's happened Saba, saying you, Alipina, goes

  111. happen you? And verse eighteen. Then one of them named Cleopus,

  112. I'll just call him Cleo. Cleo answered him, are you

  113. the only visitor to Jerusalem who does not know the

  114. things that happened there in these days? And he said

  115. to them what things Jesus was playing with them? And

  116. they said to him concerning Jesus of Nazareth, a man

  117. who was a prophet mighty indeed and word before God

  118. and all the people, and how were chief priests and

  119. rulers delivered him up to be condemned to death and

  120. crucified him. But we had the hope that he was

  121. the one to read the Israel. You know, Cleo was

  122. trying to explain Jesus to Jesus. How funny is that

  123. nearly lets you and you see Jesus, nima bilem nando

  124. see Jesus and see Jesus. Can you imagine that happening?

  125. You know, I saw this Facebook post by a student

  126. one time and he said, my teacher is so dumb.

  127. He thought the son was a star. This has been

  128. a comment. That's because it is. And he said, no,

  129. it's not. A son is a son, A star is

  130. a star. Saying that the son is a star is

  131. the same as saying a tomato is a fruit. That's

  132. right in his mind. I don't teacher in the Columban

  133. and again, teacher Malitina turunya, a son is a start.

  134. Some of you are searching in Google right now, son

  135. is a star feeling yahnah, don't teacherko ula alam. But

  136. you know what, sometimes we do that when we read

  137. the Bible and if there's something that we don't agree with,

  138. we decide we are wiser than God. Some people think

  139. that their words and the words of other people are

  140. more reliable than the word of God. They think they

  141. know better than him. And when they look at the

  142. scripture they question a lot of things and say, grab

  143. we think we know better than him. Sometimes and then

  144. verse twenty five to twenty seven, and he said to them,

  145. so Jesus Abatamana, let's cut the chase. He said to them,

  146. of foolish ones and slow of heart to believe all

  147. that the prophets have spoken, after all the teachings three years.

  148. Can you imagine Jesus preaching to them three years? How

  149. many of you hear you want Jesus to preacher every

  150. Sunday instead of me. Don't raise your hands, I'll ban

  151. you here. Can you imagine three years your best preacher,

  152. best teacher, victory group leader chan La Tutuu for three

  153. years explaining the scripture. But even after three years of

  154. teaching them, after all the miracles, Jesus said, you're slow

  155. of heart to believe. And the pupunk Costunian goingko anda

  156. be InKo bay manuala. Your hard to please. You know,

  157. sometimes the older we get, the harder we are to

  158. please the master Janti the disciple coming on student first

  159. or second? Your college mouldable. No, sometimes diavara, Oh, he'll

  160. take note. But but Jesus said, your slow of heart

  161. to believe. I like this quote from Thomas Aquinas. To

  162. one who has faith, no explanation is necessary. To one

  163. without faith, no explanation is possible. Jesus pointed out the issue.

  164. The issue is not because the Bible is not clear

  165. or profound or wise. It's not because the Bible is

  166. not It's not wise. The real the real issue here

  167. is the heart of the person. It's not intellectual issue.

  168. It's a heart issue, the refusal, the refusal to submit

  169. to God and the refusal to believe in him, which

  170. confirms what the Bible says about the real condition of

  171. man's heart, a sinful heart. And God is showing us

  172. the cure in his word. And here's what he said

  173. in verse twenty seven, and beginning with Moses, in all

  174. the prophets, he interpreted to them, in all the scripture,

  175. the things concerning himself for thousands of years. Jesus said,

  176. the purpose of the Bible is not to give you

  177. good principles you can apply in your marriage and business.

  178. And I hope you're learning a lot from the Bible.

  179. But the Bible is not a book of facts and information.

  180. He said, the purpose of the Old Testament to the

  181. New Testament. For thousands of years, God used the scripture

  182. for just one purpose, and that is to show us

  183. the person and work of Christ, to show us who

  184. God is and what Christ has done to deliver us

  185. from our sinful state, showing us the cure to our

  186. greatest problem, which is sin, which keeps us away from

  187. God and detached from the source of life, which is Him.

  188. All these years, the Bible is not primarily a book

  189. about science, or history or philosophy. The Bible is primarily

  190. about Jesus, the person in work of Christ. In last

  191. verse and verse forty five, then He opened our minds

  192. to understand the scripture and said to them, thus it

  193. is written that the Christ should suffer and on the

  194. third day rise from the dead, and that repentance for

  195. the forgiveness of sins should be proclaimed in His name

  196. to all nations beginning from Jerusalem. You are witnesses of

  197. these things. And Jesus said, God opened our minds so

  198. they will understand the scripture. And this is what the

  199. scripture is all about. It's a message of redemption. The

  200. Bible is not a book of rules. Bible, well, no,

  201. it's not a book of rules. It's God's message reaching

  202. out to you and telling you I want you back,

  203. and I already made the way, I already paid the

  204. price so that your sins can be forgiven. You know,

  205. every time I use ATM the machine to withdraw money,

  206. sometimes I would enter the wrong number or transaction. But

  207. it's a good thing. There is a bottom there and

  208. cancel bottom so that you can start all over again.

  209. So whether you made the wrong entry, amount or transaction,

  210. it's okay because there's a bottom you can press that

  211. will give you a chance to do it all over again.

  212. How many of you here you wish that there is

  213. a canceled boton you can press so that you can

  214. have a fresh start, maybe in your marriage, maybe in

  215. your life. No matter what we do, there's nothing we

  216. can do to go back ten years from now, ten

  217. years earlier to reduce some of the wrong things we've done.

  218. There's no way we can redo the wrong things we've done.

  219. But the good news is there is a reset butt

  220. and God is offering to us, and that is called forgiveness,

  221. so that you and I can have a fresh start.

  222. Whatever you've done in the past, God is offering us

  223. forgiveness so we can be cleansed from guilt and shame,

  224. so we can start all over again and have a

  225. new life. If you are here for the first time

  226. and you have not yet surrendered your life to Jesus,

  227. this is the good news of the Scripture. And I

  228. believe you are not here by accident, but this is

  229. God pleading with you. This is God pursuing you and

  230. giving you the opportunity to start all over again. If

  231. you are a Christian, if you already surrendered your life

  232. to Jesus. The Bible says, if anyone is in Christ,

  233. he is a new creation. The old is gone and

  234. the new aus come. You are given a new nature.

  235. You're like a new born baby, and starting today now

  236. that you're a Christian, the rest of your life is

  237. the unfolding of that new nature. That's why if you're

  238. a Christian, you have all the reason to be excited

  239. about your life. You have all the reason to wake

  240. up in the morning and look to the future with

  241. faith and with hope because God has given you a

  242. fresh start. I was talking to my wife earlier, and

  243. we're watching our eight year old daughter. She was lying

  244. down there in our sofa, so boring, so boring, because

  245. she's waiting for church, better having a wife call. We're

  246. looking at her, we're smiling, and we're talking about some grabby, Wow,

  247. what happened the past eight years? She looked differently, I mean,

  248. the character, everything about her. And then fast forward now

  249. grab what will happen? But guigh school, Missia, and we're

  250. thinking about all these things. She's bored this morning? Are

  251. you boring them?

  252. Boy?

  253. Coming? I'm an excited coming. Grab you. You're just starting

  254. with your life. I'm imagining what kind of person you

  255. will become, what you're going to do, the moments we're

  256. going to spend together as a family. We're looking at

  257. her and we're excited for her future. But all she's

  258. seeing at that moment was that it's boring. One ar

  259. before church. I want to encourage you. If you're a Christian,

  260. you're given a new life, you're given a new nature,

  261. and now that you're in christ every day is an

  262. unfolding of that nature, of that new life. God is

  263. not yet done with you. God is just about to start.

  264. There is a life in front of you that is exciting.

  265. The Bible says no eye has seen, and no ear

  266. has heard, and no mind can conceive what God does

  267. in store for those who love him. You have no

  268. idea what kind of life God has prepared for you.

  269. Last thing I want to say before we end, Jesus said,

  270. you are witnesses of these things, and if you're a Christian,

  271. we have an obligation. This is not something we are

  272. supposed to enjoy only to ourselves. We have an obligation

  273. to bring this good news to other people. The reason

  274. you have a family, and I'm assuming every one of

  275. us we are part of a family. Man. The reason

  276. we have a family, the reason you are in that

  277. family is because God wants you to be his witness.

  278. So my prayer this year is that not only that

  279. you will know Jesus better and encounter him in a

  280. greater way, but that you will be an effective witness

  281. and through you, more people will come to know Jesus

  282. this year because you are his witness.
