  1. Would you pray with me as we begin?

  2. Our Father in heaven, our eyes are so often on ourselves

  3. and it's quite overwhelming when we just focus on ourselves

  4. and we pray that you would speak to us this morning through Isaiah 40

  5. and just lift our eyes above to look at you, to see you clearly.

  6. Lord, we can't do this by our own strength.

  7. We need your help to do this.

  8. So please show us your glory this morning.

  9. In Jesus' name, amen.

  10. Well, do you feel the burden of trying to create paradise on earth?

  11. You know that mirage that is just up ahead of you

  12. where everything in life is finally sorted and in place.

  13. Your health being under control, enough money in the bank

  14. for bills and lifestyle and then a buffer.

  15. Succeeding in your work or study, feeling competent, important,

  16. but not too stressed.

  17. Having that intimate relationship with not major arguments.

  18. Your children respecting you and thriving at school,

  19. feeling like you belong in the church community.

  20. Having that perfect balance between family and church

  21. and leisure and work and sleeping well at night.

  22. And maybe you really want people around you to come to know Jesus

  23. and you want people to be integrated in the church,

  24. growing in their faith and love,

  25. and you want society ordered in a way that pleases God.

  26. It can be overwhelming at times, can't it?

  27. Sounds pretty good.

  28. Sometimes we feel close to getting it, don't we?

  29. We're just on the verge of that mirage.

  30. Like when we get accepted for that job,

  31. we think everything else will just fall into place.

  32. But I think the rest of the time,

  33. our usual experience is we're just striving

  34. to create this paradise.

  35. And it can just feel like a burden.

  36. It can feel very heavy.

  37. Especially when one of two things happens.

  38. First, sometimes we encounter people

  39. who have a different idea of paradise

  40. and their idea of paradise just gets in the way of mine.

  41. Or just things beyond our control.

  42. Just make all our efforts useless.

  43. So do you feel the burden of trying to create paradise?

  44. In the time of Isaiah, speaking chapter 40,

  45. Israel was meant to be Yahweh's unique covenant people,

  46. living in Yahweh's promised land,

  47. with him ruling and protecting them

  48. through their king,

  49. and having Yahweh dwelling among them,

  50. represented by the grand temple that Solomon built.

  51. But at this point in time,

  52. because of the seemingly unstoppable force

  53. of the Babylonian empire,

  54. they lived outside the land.

  55. Their last king to sit on the throne

  56. had his eyes plucked out.

  57. And the temple is burnt down and demolished.

  58. If you were living then,

  59. how confident would you be

  60. that your God alone created the heavens and the earth?

  61. How confident would you be

  62. that God's plan for his world is on track?

  63. How confident are you today?

  64. that God alone created and rules all things,

  65. and therefore his plan is on track?

  66. We need to appreciate who created all things.

  67. This morning we're not going to spend our time

  68. looking into the details of how God created the world,

  69. the debate, the discussion,

  70. whether it's seven literal days or not,

  71. the age of the universe.

  72. These questions are fine to investigate.

  73. But to live well,

  74. we need to know what God's purpose for his creation is.

  75. We need to know the who and the why.

  76. So that's why we're looking at Isaiah 40,

  77. because Isaiah 40 just has these brilliant images

  78. that help us look up and see the who.

  79. So let's do that.

  80. Verse 12.

  81. Who has measured the waters in the hollow of his hand?

  82. And marked off the heavens with a span.

  83. Now, I've used this illustration a couple of years ago.

  84. The average hand span is somewhere between 15 and 25 centimetres.

  85. And if you imagine our sun in the sky,

  86. if its diameter is represented as one millimetre,

  87. then the distance from the sun to Earth is about 10 centimetres.

  88. There are hundreds of millions of stars in our galaxy alone.

  89. And if you were to measure the distance

  90. to our nearest neighbour,

  91. on the scale we're using,

  92. it would be 30 kilometres away.

  93. And God measures the entire universe.

  94. It's about that.

  95. All the earth,

  96. all the heavens are simple

  97. and easily held

  98. with a single hand

  99. by the Lord alone.

  100. Verse 13 and 14.

  101. Who has measured the spirit of the Lord?

  102. Or what man shows him his counsel?

  103. Whom did he consult?

  104. And who made him understand?

  105. Who taught him the path of justice

  106. and taught him knowledge

  107. and showed him the way of understanding?

  108. The Lord did not need a training course.

  109. He didn't need a YouTube video.

  110. He didn't need a second opinion

  111. to check his calculations.

  112. He didn't need a team of labourers

  113. to do the heavy lifting.

  114. He didn't even need a Bunnings.

  115. He did it

  116. all by his own power and wisdom.

  117. Verse 28.

  118. Have you not known?

  119. Have you not heard?

  120. The Lord is the everlasting God,

  121. the creator of the ends of the earth.

  122. Do you not know?

  123. And it's not like God began all things

  124. and then just sat back

  125. and let it run its course.

  126. No, our creator continually sustains

  127. and governs all things.

  128. Have a look and listen and imagine

  129. verses 21 to 26.

  130. Do you not know?

  131. Do you not hear?

  132. Has it not been told you from the beginning?

  133. Have you not understood

  134. from the foundations of the earth?

  135. It is he who sits above the circle of the earth

  136. and its inhabitants are like grasshoppers.

  137. Who stretches out the heavens like a curtain

  138. and spreads them like a tent to dwell in.

  139. Who brings princes to nothing

  140. and makes the rulers of the earth as emptiness.

  141. Scarcely are they planted,

  142. scarcely sown,

  143. scarcely has their stem taken root in the earth

  144. when he blows on them and they wither

  145. and the tempest carries them off like stubble.

  146. To whom then will you compare me

  147. that I should be like him?

  148. Says the Holy One.

  149. Lift up your eyes on high

  150. and see who created all these.

  151. He who brings out their hosts by number,

  152. calling them all by name,

  153. by the greatness of his might

  154. and because he is strong in power,

  155. not one is missing.

  156. Do you struggle like me to remember names?

  157. Now people are important to me

  158. but I just, I struggle.

  159. You might have heard me last week

  160. call Jamie's Cosima Cosumi.

  161. Each of the millions of stars

  162. in the billions of galaxies,

  163. God knows them fully.

  164. He knows them individually by name

  165. and they are in the exact place

  166. he wants them.

  167. Isn't that good news?

  168. If he can do it with the stars,

  169. surely he knows us as well.

  170. I'm reminded when I look at the Southern Cross

  171. that one of those stars

  172. is about 88 light years away.

  173. That's probably longer than,

  174. as in 88 years,

  175. that's probably longer than I'm going to live on this earth.

  176. And if God is sustaining that star,

  177. it just reminds me that God is sustaining me.

  178. It's in its place.

  179. He's got me in my place as well.

  180. What about society

  181. and human power and politics?

  182. Did you see the image there

  183. that he used?

  184. That unstoppable Babylonian army

  185. that took you away, Israel?

  186. They're like a single drop

  187. in a bucket to me.

  188. They're like the dust on the scales.

  189. They don't even register.

  190. All the might of human power

  191. is like our herb garden at home.

  192. We've got coriander and parsley.

  193. But all of a sudden,

  194. our basil turned from green to black.

  195. There are forces much bigger than us

  196. that we feel is just beyond our control,

  197. but not to God.

  198. To our Creator,

  199. all flesh is like grass.

  200. He easily controls them,

  201. rules over them.

  202. Do you think you're in control?

  203. We often speak as Christians

  204. as if it's a choice

  205. whether we live dependent on God

  206. or whether we try and strive

  207. by our own strength.

  208. And in terms of our own attitude,

  209. that's a really good question

  210. to reflect on.

  211. But in terms of what just is,

  212. our existence,

  213. there is no choice.

  214. You are utterly dependent

  215. on your Creator.

  216. You and I are dust.

  217. We are grass.

  218. We are extremely limited

  219. and vulnerable

  220. and utterly dependent.

  221. Therefore,

  222. life

  223. and this world

  224. should all be seen

  225. as a gift,

  226. not as something

  227. we can

  228. control.

  229. The Lord

  230. is the only one

  231. who created

  232. and governs

  233. all things.

  234. In year 12

  235. at school,

  236. for my design

  237. and tech project,

  238. I made this coffee table

  239. and it had lights in it

  240. and it's meant to flash

  241. to the beat of the music

  242. and I poured hours

  243. and hours

  244. into that project

  245. and I needed a lot

  246. of help with it as well.

  247. Every millimetre,

  248. I was so careful

  249. and I put this

  250. custom-made glass top

  251. on it

  252. so that it protected

  253. the lights

  254. and so that it could be

  255. used as a coffee table.

  256. Now,

  257. fast forward

  258. to a youth group event

  259. at my house.

  260. You already know

  261. it's not going to end well.

  262. And during a Bible study,

  263. some boys decided

  264. it would be a good idea

  265. if this coffee table

  266. was used as a chair

  267. and the glass cracked

  268. and so did my heart.

  269. Because I made

  270. the coffee table,

  271. I had the right

  272. to say what its purpose was

  273. and what it wasn't for.

  274. If it was one of you

  275. who broke the table,

  276. I really don't care that much.

  277. I've moved on.

  278. So what is God's purpose

  279. in making human beings

  280. and the entire cosmos?

  281. We really need to know

  282. the answer to this question

  283. and amazingly,

  284. God has revealed it to us.

  285. Now,

  286. we could

  287. glean the answers

  288. from Isaiah 40.

  289. It is

  290. very clear

  291. in Isaiah 40

  292. but let's flip back

  293. to Genesis 2.

  294. So could you turn back

  295. to Genesis 2

  296. with me?

  297. To get to the heart

  298. of God's purpose,

  299. how would you answer

  300. this question?

  301. Whose home

  302. did God build?

  303. Is earth

  304. a home for people

  305. or is it a home

  306. for God?

  307. If your first thoughts

  308. are anything like mine,

  309. you might be thinking

  310. God doesn't need a home.

  311. The whole universe

  312. isn't big enough

  313. to contain God.

  314. And you'd be right.

  315. The Bible says that clearly.

  316. And then you consider

  317. the precision

  318. and the complexity

  319. of this world

  320. and it's just amazing.

  321. Life thrives.

  322. The ocean is full

  323. of weird

  324. and wonderful things.

  325. The earth

  326. is just covered

  327. with plants

  328. and animals

  329. and people

  330. and the sky

  331. is full of birds.

  332. We might think

  333. it's clearly

  334. designed

  335. for physical

  336. beings.

  337. And again,

  338. the Bible says

  339. that clearly.

  340. It is a home

  341. for us.

  342. But Genesis 2

  343. gives an even

  344. fuller explanation

  345. for why God

  346. made everything.

  347. The key

  348. is in the first

  349. three verses.

  350. Thus the heavens

  351. and the earth

  352. were finished

  353. and all the host

  354. of them.

  355. And on the seventh day

  356. God finished

  357. his work

  358. that he had done

  359. and he rested

  360. on the seventh day

  361. from all his work

  362. that he had done.

  363. So God blessed

  364. the seventh day

  365. and made it holy

  366. because on it

  367. God rested

  368. from all the work

  369. that he had done

  370. in creation.

  371. Now God does not

  372. grow tired or weary.

  373. He didn't need

  374. to have a sit down

  375. because he was tired.

  376. For God to rest

  377. means something

  378. along the lines

  379. of God enjoying,

  380. God having the purpose

  381. for which he made

  382. the world.

  383. God

  384. so

  385. like a car enthusiast

  386. who after putting

  387. the engine back together

  388. goes for a drive

  389. after all the work

  390. of construction

  391. enjoys

  392. the car

  393. or like sitting

  394. around the family

  395. table after cooking

  396. a home

  397. home cooked meal.

  398. It's enjoying

  399. your creation

  400. or like a builder

  401. and his family

  402. moving in

  403. to his home

  404. after the construction

  405. is complete.

  406. Notice that

  407. unlike

  408. the other six days

  409. of creation

  410. that there's a

  411. definite finishing point

  412. with those.

  413. There was evening

  414. and there was morning

  415. the first day.

  416. There was evening

  417. and there was morning

  418. the second day.

  419. But for the seventh day

  420. there is no finish.

  421. The theme

  422. of God's rest

  423. runs all the way

  424. through the Bible.

  425. For God to rest

  426. is for God

  427. to enjoy

  428. the purpose

  429. for which

  430. he made the earth

  431. and the entire cosmos.

  432. So have a listen

  433. to John Walton's

  434. explanation.

  435. I think he helped me

  436. understand this

  437. a bit clearer.

  438. This is what he says.

  439. On the seventh day

  440. we finally discover

  441. that God has been

  442. working to achieve

  443. a rest.

  444. God does not

  445. set up the cosmos

  446. so that only people

  447. will have a place.

  448. He also sets up

  449. the cosmos

  450. to serve

  451. as

  452. his

  453. temple

  454. in which

  455. he will find

  456. rest.

  457. to serve

  458. as

  459. his

  460. temple

  461. in which

  462. he will find

  463. rest.

  464. It is the place

  465. where God

  466. can be known

  467. and related

  468. to

  469. by his

  470. people

  471. who gladly

  472. live under

  473. his rule

  474. and enjoy

  475. the blessings

  476. of his presence.

  477. we're told

  478. that the heavens

  479. exist

  480. to declare

  481. the glory

  482. of God.

  483. If they're just

  484. a place

  485. for us to live

  486. you've got to say

  487. the billions

  488. of galaxies

  489. is a bit

  490. of overkill

  491. but

  492. if the heavens

  493. exist

  494. for God

  495. in all his

  496. glory

  497. to be known

  498. by his people

  499. then a universe

  500. full of stars

  501. that makes us

  502. feel so very

  503. small

  504. and yet

  505. so full

  506. of joy

  507. as we

  508. stand in

  509. awe

  510. underneath

  511. them

  512. then they're

  513. about the

  514. right size.

  515. The earth

  516. you walk

  517. on

  518. is a place

  519. for God

  520. to be known

  521. and worshipped.

  522. How does

  523. that sit

  524. with you?

  525. I hope

  526. you have

  527. mixed feelings

  528. things.

  529. On the one

  530. hand I hope

  531. you feel

  532. a sense

  533. of peace

  534. and joy

  535. knowing that

  536. everything

  537. exists,

  538. your life

  539. exists

  540. for a greater

  541. purpose than

  542. yourself.

  543. There's a joy

  544. in that.

  545. On the other

  546. hand I hope

  547. you feel

  548. threatened

  549. that if

  550. life is

  551. pure

  552. gift

  553. and it's

  554. up to

  555. my creator

  556. to decide

  557. how I should

  558. live my

  559. life

  560. and my

  561. purpose

  562. is to have

  563. God at the

  564. centre

  565. of everything

  566. and for me

  567. to worship

  568. him

  569. and for him

  570. to get

  571. all the

  572. glory

  573. it threatens

  574. us being

  575. at the centre.

  576. this earth

  577. and the

  578. entire

  579. cosmos

  580. is a

  581. temple

  582. a home

  583. for God

  584. to get

  585. all the

  586. glory.

  587. Now perhaps

  588. you're wondering

  589. why I'm using

  590. the word

  591. temple

  592. it seems

  593. a little

  594. religious

  595. but

  596. temple

  597. gets across

  598. the idea

  599. of

  600. the divine

  601. dwelling place

  602. and temple

  603. gets across

  604. the idea

  605. that it's

  606. from this

  607. place

  608. that God

  609. rules

  610. and temple

  611. also

  612. pictures

  613. us people

  614. as priests

  615. whose job

  616. is to

  617. worship

  618. the Lord

  619. and whose

  620. job is to

  621. represent God

  622. to one

  623. another

  624. and as we

  625. rule this

  626. world under

  627. God's

  628. authority.

  629. So although

  630. we are

  631. creatures

  632. mankind

  633. is unique

  634. in all

  635. God's

  636. creation.

  637. We're told

  638. in Genesis

  639. 1 that

  640. God made

  641. people male

  642. and female

  643. in his

  644. image.

  645. To be in

  646. God's image

  647. it doesn't

  648. just mean

  649. that we

  650. are persons

  651. who have

  652. the faculties

  653. to think

  654. and to feel

  655. and to

  656. communicate

  657. to make

  658. choices

  659. to have

  660. relationship

  661. all these

  662. things are

  663. true to

  664. be in the

  665. image of

  666. God

  667. but all

  668. these

  669. things

  670. serve a

  671. greater

  672. purpose

  673. to reflect

  674. God's

  675. very character

  676. as we

  677. live in

  678. relationship

  679. with him

  680. as we

  681. worship

  682. him

  683. as we

  684. represent

  685. him

  686. to the

  687. rest of

  688. creation.

  689. God's

  690. rest

  691. God's

  692. purpose

  693. is for

  694. God to

  695. be present

  696. with his

  697. worshipful

  698. people

  699. his image

  700. bearing

  701. people

  702. in

  703. paradise

  704. and all

  705. this

  706. for his

  707. glory

  708. to fill

  709. the earth.

  710. God

  711. God

  712. God

  713. God

  714. God

  715. God

  716. God

  717. God

  718. But this

  719. isn't our

  720. usual everyday

  721. experience of

  722. life is it?

  723. The blessings

  724. that flow like a

  725. river from God's

  726. presence are

  727. often far from

  728. our everyday

  729. experience.

  730. So I watched a

  731. movie recently

  732. based on

  733. the 2004

  734. tsunami

  735. that hit

  736. in Indonesia

  737. and it

  738. just pictures

  739. a family

  740. on holiday

  741. by the

  742. pool

  743. and the

  744. parents

  745. are arguing

  746. about

  747. whether they

  748. should move

  749. house when

  750. they get

  751. back home

  752. when suddenly

  753. the tsunami

  754. hits.

  755. All their

  756. plans come

  757. to nothing.

  758. Sickness

  759. hunts us

  760. down.

  761. our

  762. environment

  763. is more

  764. exploited

  765. than

  766. protected.

  767. And this

  768. week our

  769. attention has

  770. been drawn

  771. to the

  772. abortion

  773. laws in

  774. Australia.

  775. We live

  776. in this

  777. society

  778. that pours

  779. so much

  780. money into

  781. healthcare

  782. and yet

  783. at the

  784. same time

  785. says that

  786. we can

  787. decide to

  788. destroy

  789. life.

  790. And then

  791. there's our

  792. relationships.

  793. Would you

  794. say that

  795. your usual

  796. experience

  797. is that we

  798. treat one

  799. another with

  800. the character

  801. of God?

  802. God's

  803. presence

  804. and the

  805. paradise that

  806. flows from

  807. his presence,

  808. his rule,

  809. is just not

  810. our everyday

  811. experience.

  812. God says

  813. in his

  814. word there's

  815. a very

  816. good reason

  817. for that

  818. and we're

  819. going to

  820. explore this

  821. more next

  822. Sunday.

  823. But let

  824. me say

  825. for now,

  826. ever since

  827. the first

  828. man Adam

  829. reached up

  830. in direct

  831. disobedience

  832. to his

  833. creator

  834. and he

  835. didn't do

  836. it by

  837. accident,

  838. he wanted

  839. to become

  840. like God

  841. even though

  842. as God's

  843. priest and

  844. image bearer

  845. in God's

  846. temple,

  847. he already

  848. enjoyed the

  849. greatest status

  850. and purpose

  851. and relationship

  852. possible.

  853. Adam and

  854. everyone

  855. descended from

  856. him since

  857. has tried to

  858. usurp

  859. God's place

  860. in the

  861. world.

  862. Kick him

  863. off the

  864. throne.

  865. As if

  866. you and

  867. I can

  868. control

  869. our

  870. world,

  871. creating

  872. our own

  873. version of

  874. paradise

  875. and all

  876. this

  877. without a

  878. need to

  879. know God

  880. or worship

  881. God.

  882. And the

  883. consequences

  884. of this

  885. have been

  886. felt

  887. ever since.

  888. When

  889. mankind

  890. was kicked

  891. out of the

  892. Garden of

  893. Eden,

  894. do you

  895. think

  896. paradise

  897. was the

  898. greatest

  899. thing we

  900. lost?

  901. If

  902. paradise

  903. is the

  904. greatest

  905. thing we

  906. lost,

  907. then we're

  908. going to

  909. spend all

  910. our effort

  911. trying to

  912. get it

  913. back.

  914. I think

  915. we try to

  916. do this

  917. individually

  918. and as

  919. a

  920. society.

  921. Or do

  922. you agree

  923. with John

  924. Walton

  925. again?

  926. He gives

  927. this answer.

  928. In the

  929. aftermath

  930. of the

  931. fall,

  932. the

  933. greatest

  934. loss was

  935. not

  936. paradise.

  937. It was

  938. God's

  939. presence.

  940. God's

  941. presence.

  942. God's

  943. presence.

  944. God's

  945. presence.

  946. God's

  947. presence.

  948. God's

  949. presence.

  950. God's

  951. presence.

  952. God's

  953. presence.

  954. God's

  955. presence.

  956. God's

  957. presence.

  958. God's

  959. presence.

  960. What was

  961. the greatest

  962. thing we

  963. lost after

  964. the fall?

  965. Paradise or

  966. God's

  967. presence?

  968. We come

  969. to the

  970. question,

  971. will God's

  972. rest,

  973. his purpose

  974. for creation

  975. be achieved?

  976. God's

  977. presence.

  978. Those who

  979. first heard

  980. Isaiah 40

  981. would have

  982. had no

  983. circumstantial

  984. evidence to

  985. give them

  986. confidence that

  987. God's rest

  988. will be

  989. achieved.

  990. And they

  991. knew that

  992. they were in

  993. such desperate

  994. situation because

  995. they had

  996. rejected God.

  997. God's

  998. desire God's

  999. presence,

  1000. most of

  1001. all,

  1002. then these

  1003. words of

  1004. Isaiah 40

  1005. will be the

  1006. best news

  1007. to you.

  1008. From

  1009. verse 3,

  1010. a voice

  1011. cries,

  1012. in the

  1013. wilderness

  1014. prepare the

  1015. way of the

  1016. Lord.

  1017. Make

  1018. straight in

  1019. the desert

  1020. a highway

  1021. for our

  1022. God.

  1023. Every valley

  1024. shall be

  1025. lifted up

  1026. and every

  1027. mountain and

  1028. hill be

  1029. made low.

  1030. The uneven

  1031. ground shall

  1032. become level

  1033. and the

  1034. rough places

  1035. a plain.

  1036. And the

  1037. glory of

  1038. the Lord

  1039. shall be

  1040. revealed.

  1041. And all

  1042. flesh shall

  1043. see it

  1044. together,

  1045. for the

  1046. mouth of

  1047. the Lord

  1048. has spoken.

  1049. the

  1050. one who

  1051. said,

  1052. let there

  1053. be light,

  1054. and light

  1055. flooded the

  1056. darkness,

  1057. says,

  1058. although you

  1059. have chosen

  1060. to live in

  1061. darkness,

  1062. I will

  1063. come near

  1064. to you.

  1065. The

  1066. glory of

  1067. the Lord

  1068. shall be

  1069. revealed.

  1070. And we

  1071. would never

  1072. have imagined

  1073. what God

  1074. meant by that

  1075. until we

  1076. read in the

  1077. New Testament,

  1078. in John's

  1079. Gospel,

  1080. and the

  1081. word became

  1082. flesh,

  1083. and dwelt

  1084. among us.

  1085. And we

  1086. have seen

  1087. his glory,

  1088. glory as of

  1089. the only

  1090. son from the

  1091. father,

  1092. full of

  1093. grace and

  1094. truth.

  1095. earth.

  1096. The one

  1097. who sits

  1098. above the

  1099. circle of

  1100. the earth

  1101. became like

  1102. grass with

  1103. us.

  1104. Seeing God

  1105. in the

  1106. flesh is

  1107. so much

  1108. clearer than

  1109. the old

  1110. temple building,

  1111. but he also

  1112. came for

  1113. another reason.

  1114. If you

  1115. think and

  1116. picture Solomon's

  1117. temple in

  1118. Jerusalem, it

  1119. was surrounded

  1120. by basins of

  1121. water for

  1122. washing.

  1123. The smell

  1124. of death from

  1125. animal sacrifices

  1126. for sin would

  1127. have surrounded

  1128. it day and

  1129. night.

  1130. And only the

  1131. high priest,

  1132. one person,

  1133. could enter

  1134. God's immediate

  1135. presence once a

  1136. year and

  1137. he couldn't

  1138. muck around.

  1139. That building

  1140. loudly proclaimed

  1141. that sinful,

  1142. God-usurping,

  1143. idolatrous

  1144. people could

  1145. only come so

  1146. close to God.

  1147. But in our

  1148. creator's

  1149. death,

  1150. on the

  1151. cross,

  1152. we are now

  1153. invited,

  1154. come near.

  1155. Come near.

  1156. Come near.

  1157. Know that you

  1158. are completely

  1159. cleansed.

  1160. God is

  1161. coming near.

  1162. God is

  1163. coming near to

  1164. us by making

  1165. our bodies

  1166. his home,

  1167. dwelling in

  1168. us by his

  1169. spirit.

  1170. As we have

  1171. come to see

  1172. his glory in

  1173. the Lord Jesus

  1174. Christ, we

  1175. worship him.

  1176. And we no

  1177. longer live for

  1178. ourselves, we

  1179. live for him.

  1180. God is

  1181. going to be

  1182. renewed day

  1183. by day in

  1184. the image of

  1185. our creator.

  1186. As we reflect

  1187. the character of

  1188. the God whom we

  1189. worship, we

  1190. bring his

  1191. presence into

  1192. every aspect of

  1193. our life.

  1194. Every arena that

  1195. you walk in, we

  1196. can reflect God

  1197. in.

  1198. And we can fill

  1199. the world with

  1200. his glory.

  1201. glory.

  1202. We don't want

  1203. paradise without

  1204. God's presence.

  1205. We still

  1206. desperately want

  1207. paradise.

  1208. But we're

  1209. waiting for it.

  1210. We're waiting for

  1211. God's paradise.

  1212. Not our

  1213. version.

  1214. And we know

  1215. it's not yet.

  1216. It's coming, but

  1217. it's not yet.

  1218. we will wait

  1219. with certain

  1220. hope, knowing

  1221. that our

  1222. creator, who

  1223. does not grow

  1224. tired or weary,

  1225. will fully and

  1226. finally achieve

  1227. his rest.

  1228. And this is what

  1229. he says in

  1230. Revelation 21.

  1231. Then I saw a

  1232. new heaven and

  1233. a new earth.

  1234. For the first

  1235. heaven and the

  1236. first earth had

  1237. passed away, and

  1238. the sea was no

  1239. more.

  1240. And I saw the

  1241. holy city, the

  1242. new Jerusalem,

  1243. coming down out

  1244. of heaven from

  1245. God, prepared as

  1246. a bride adorned

  1247. for her husband.

  1248. And I heard a

  1249. loud voice from

  1250. the throne saying,

  1251. behold, the

  1252. dwelling place of

  1253. God is with

  1254. man.

  1255. He will dwell

  1256. with them, and

  1257. they will be his

  1258. people, and God

  1259. himself will be

  1260. with them as

  1261. their God.

  1262. He will wipe

  1263. every tear from

  1264. their eyes, and

  1265. death shall be no

  1266. more.

  1267. Neither shall

  1268. there be mourning,

  1269. nor crying, nor

  1270. pain any more, for

  1271. the former things

  1272. have passed

  1273. away.

  1274. And he who

  1275. was seated on

  1276. the throne said,

  1277. behold, I am

  1278. making everything

  1279. new.

  1280. Would you pray

  1281. with me?

  1282. Lord God, Father,

  1283. Son, and Holy

  1284. Spirit, we worship

  1285. you alone as the

  1286. creator and ruler

  1287. of all things.

  1288. Thank you for

  1289. coming near to

  1290. us.

  1291. Father, help us to

  1292. live for you

  1293. alone.

  1294. help us live

  1295. patiently, trusting

  1296. that you will

  1297. achieve your

  1298. purposes.

  1299. And Lord, use

  1300. us individually

  1301. and together as

  1302. your people for

  1303. your glory, we

  1304. pray.

  1305. In Jesus' name,

  1306. amen.

  1307. Amen.

  1308. Amen.

  1309. You

  1310. amen.

  1311. So, you
