  1. Hebrews 12.

  2. But you have come to Mount Zion and to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to innumerable angels in festival gathering, and to the assembly of the firstborn who are enrolled in heaven, and to God, the judge of all, and to the spirits of the righteous made perfect, and to Jesus, the mediator of a new covenant, and to the sprinkled blood that speaks a better word than the blood of Abel.

  3. See that you do not refuse him who is speaking.

  4. For if they did not escape when they refused him who warned them on earth, much less will we escape if we reject him who warns from heaven.

  5. At that time his voice shook the earth, but now he has promised, yet once more I will shake not only the earth, but also the heavens.

  6. This phrase, yet once more, indicates the removal of things that are shaken, that is, things that have been made, in order that the things that cannot be shaken may remain.

  7. Let us be grateful for receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, and thus let us offer to God acceptable worship with reverence and awe, for our God is a consuming fire.

  8. Well, good morning everyone.

  9. Good morning everyone.

  10. today, please.

  11. Good morning.

  12. Good morning everyone.

  13. Good morning everyone.

  14. Good morning.

  15. Hey, fun.

  16. We're pré Ultimately.

  17. easily superimpose our own thinking, our own framework on these key words.

  18. Now, it may be for some Christians and some Christians in this church that we do that

  19. because we actually haven't taken the time to listen to what God says about these important

  20. issues. But more sadly, and I think also a reality in our church, is that sometimes we

  21. superimpose our own views because we actually don't like what we hear God saying. We actually

  22. want to superimpose a view until we have something that we're comfortable with, that sits easily

  23. with us in these key areas. And that's particularly obvious, I think, when it comes to the word

  24. that's our focus this morning, the word church. So what do you think of when you think of church?

  25. Perhaps, like Don discovered this morning, perhaps you don't think it's just something

  26. that's there. And most Christians, I think, would believe that church is linked to being

  27. a Christian. Last week, Rob took us through the word salvation and looked at what God says

  28. clearly about salvation. And out of that, then I think most Christians would say, well, once

  29. you're saved, that has an inseparable link to the idea of church. Don brought that out in

  30. a stone, saved Christians, church. Now, after that, there might be huge variance as to what that

  31. connection looks like and what it means in practice. Is it just a nice theory? And I know so many

  32. Christians who are in this camp. Well, they say the idea of church as the body or family of Christ,

  33. it's a really lovely theory. But of course, it doesn't work in practice. Just look around.

  34. And so out of that, then people often really sit loose to church and have as little to do with

  35. the organism here, the community here, have as little to do as possible. Because after all,

  36. they say, it really is just a collection of really annoying people. Even hypocrites.

  37. Others will say, well, church is something I think is really important. I personally can take it or

  38. leave it depending on whether it overlaps with my desires, my interests.

  39. Others again will say, well, actually, I suppose to me, church is like a club.

  40. I get involved in it because it reflects my personal interest in life. It puts me in contact

  41. with nice people. I like to hang out with nice people, people who are like me.

  42. It actually offers some enjoyable benefits when it works well, and so on and so forth.

  43. So those are fairly common views, I think. Perhaps more common than we'd ever care to admit.

  44. Or is church for you something that is at the heart of God's purpose for you as a Christian?

  45. Something you would say is absolutely essential to your health and spiritual growth as a believer.

  46. To your maturity as a believer.

  47. Well, friends, once again, God has spoken very clearly about church.

  48. And we need to listen.

  49. We need to listen and we need to follow.

  50. We must see God's church with God's eyes.

  51. So let's jump into these verses from Hebrews.

  52. There's any number of passages we could have gone to in the New Testament.

  53. I opted for Hebrews.

  54. We'll see how we go.

  55. Any of these passages describe God's church in all its glory.

  56. And that's a word that is appropriate to describe God's church.

  57. It's glorious.

  58. But let me give some background context to Hebrews chapter 12, without which we'll actually not be able to see the beauty of what's being said here in these verses.

    Hebrews 12 chapter mention

  59. The letter was written to encourage small groups of Christians who had then, having been converted, abandoned into little churches, scattered around the Roman Empire.

  60. Most of these people to whom it was written had a Jewish background, converted out of Judaism.

  61. And what they discovered was, and quite contrary to expectation perhaps, that their newfound faith in Christ had actually made life harder, had actually made life more uncertain for them on a day-to-day basis.

  62. Because it brought persecution from both Jews and Romans.

  63. And so as a result of that, many were tempted to give up their Christian faith and resume their old Jewish religion.

  64. Because they knew that the Jewish religion was actually accepted by the Roman Empire.

  65. So it would mean an end to their persecution and suffering.

  66. Because when they looked around their little churches, their little groups of Christians looked so pathetic, so insignificant, compared to the status enjoyed by the Jewish synagogues and by so many other pagan religions around the Roman Empire with their massive temples and their holy days and their holy people and their special rituals.

  67. The church just didn't look to be worth anything.

  68. And so they were tempted to turn back to what they had once been part of.

  69. And the encouragement of this letter as a whole, leading up to chapter 12, is this.

  70. To recognise that Jesus has established the salvation community which God had planned from eternity.

  71. And which Judaism had only ever been able to point to.

  72. So the encouragement of this letter is to say this.

  73. In spite of what it might appear like, how it might feel on a day-to-day basis, these Christians were part of God's eternal community.

  74. The church.

  75. And in fact, we'll see here in these verses that the writers say, indeed, the church is the only secure eternal community in our broken and decaying world.

  76. And that's a really big rap for the church, isn't it?

  77. It's a really big rap.

  78. But that is God's word on the matter.

  79. And I would venture to say that unless we're seeing the church with the same centrality, the same certainty, the same security, the same glory, then we're not seeing the church with God's eyes.

  80. Because the church has been central to God's purposeful gathering of his people into community.

  81. The Greek word is ekklesia.

  82. Ekklesia.

  83. The primary notion of church is God calling out or gathering, congregating.

  84. That's the word we get congregation from.

  85. God congregating or assembling his people before himself.

  86. And that notion is right across the whole breadth of the Bible.

  87. The first picture of church is actually in Genesis 1 and 2.

  88. Having created the universe to his own satisfaction, what does God do?

  89. He immediately gathers, as it were, Adam and Eve from the world as a whole place into a special place, the Garden of Eden.

  90. Into a special relationship with God.

  91. God was determined to enjoy what he'd created with his image bearers.

  92. And he was determined to do that for eternity.

  93. In response, Genesis 1 and 2, particularly Genesis 2, God's people were to worship him.

  94. A whole of life, whole of being response of love and trust and honor and obedience.

  95. That was a picture of the church as God meant it to be.

  96. Of course, sin wrecked everything, didn't it?

  97. Forcing God to disperse his people.

  98. But even in Genesis 3, as God disperses his people, that dispersion happened with the promise that one day God would act to fix the problem of sin.

  99. And one day, once again, gather his people to himself in special relationship for eternity.

  100. That's, we move into chapter 12.

  101. That's what's been spoken about here in verse 18 to 22, 23.

  102. It's the picture of Sinai.

  103. We see that at Sinai.

  104. Where God assembled or churched his people at Mount Sinai.

  105. He gathered them from slavery in Egypt.

  106. Gathered them to himself in relationship, in new relationship.

  107. A relationship when he said, I will bless you.

  108. I want you to worship me with whole hearts.

  109. But rebellion and judgment still plagued the relationship.

  110. And so, what we know as we look across the spread of the Bible is that Sinai was a great progression in God's purpose to gather his church.

  111. But it wasn't the final entity.

  112. It wasn't the final reality.

  113. And for that, we need Jesus.

  114. And we see that in verse 22, 23, and 24.

  115. Let me just read them to you.

  116. So, he says, you've not come, verse 18, you've not come to Sinai.

  117. Right?

  118. There's a contrast.

  119. You've not come to Sinai.

  120. But you have come.

  121. This is speaking to Christians.

  122. You've not come to this.

  123. But you have come to Mount Zion.

  124. To the city of the living God.

  125. The heavenly Jerusalem.

  126. And to innumerable angels in festal gathering.

  127. And to the assembly of the firstborn who are enrolled in heaven.

  128. And to God, the judge of all.

  129. And to the spirits of the righteous made perfect.

  130. And to Jesus.

  131. The mediator of a new covenant.

  132. And to the sprinkled blood that speaks a better word than the blood of Abel.

  133. There's the connection back to Genesis.

  134. Jesus is now the fulfillment of that which God promised.

  135. God's purpose has been fully realized.

  136. With God's people gathered around Jesus.

  137. That is a picture of the church.

  138. That is God's purpose in eternity.

  139. It is the death and resurrection of Jesus.

  140. That achieves finally God's purpose.

  141. Dealing with sin.

  142. Restoring relationship with God.

  143. Renewing from the inside out.

  144. And thus qualifying sinners for heaven.

  145. For eternity.

  146. For the abundant life we heard of from Rob last week.

  147. The abundant life that God intended for his image bearers.

  148. Right from the get go.

  149. Heaven itself.

  150. So it's God's purposeful gathering.

  151. And it's a permanent display.

  152. The watching world.

  153. Of God's wisdom and glory.

  154. One writer said this.

  155. That the church is God's verifying data.

  156. Of his grace and salvation.

  157. I think that's a lovely term.

  158. It's God's verifying data.

  159. Of God's character.

  160. God's grace.

  161. God's actions in salvation.

  162. We see this again in the strong before and after contrast.

  163. In these verses.

  164. Verses 18 to 21.

  165. Before Christ.

  166. For you have not come to what may be touched.

  167. A blazing fire and darkness and gloom.

  168. And a tempest.

  169. And the sound of a trumpet and a voice.

  170. Whose words made the hearers beg.

  171. That no further messages be spoken to them.

  172. For they could not endure the order that was given.

  173. If even a beast touches the mountain.

  174. It shall be stoned.

  175. Indeed so terrifying was the sight.

  176. That Moses said.

  177. I tremble with fear.

  178. See before.

  179. When God gathered his people.

  180. The context was always.

  181. God's holiness.

  182. And therefore.

  183. Fear of judgment.

  184. Proper fear of judgment.

  185. God's holiness.

  186. Their unresolved sin.

  187. God's holiness.

  188. Their debilitating fear.

  189. As they stand gathered before this holy.

  190. Just.

  191. All saying.

  192. God.

  193. God's holiness.

  194. God's holiness.

  195. And before the scrutiny.

  196. God's word.

  197. That exposes sin to the depths of our hearts.

  198. And promised justice and judgment.

  199. God's holiness.

  200. but now look what God has done in Christ verses 22 to 24. We see a whole list of just descriptions

  201. here piled upon pile upon pile. The writer's struggling to grasp it and so he's just describing

  202. he's pulling out all these pictures and just stacking them up one on top of the other to try

  203. and capture the glory of what God has done for us in Christ in establishing the church.

  204. God's church is in perfect personal relationship with God. No more is sin a barrier because of the

  205. work of Christ. God's words no longer create fear but bring forgiveness, renewal and comfort to God's

  206. people. The church is God's temple. The church is God's place of rule. The city where his family

  207. resides in safety and security. It's even party central for as it says here innumerable angels.

  208. What's the source of the big party the joyous occasion? These innumerable angels are looking

  209. out over uncountable. Not being able to count whatever that right word is. Sinners who've now

  210. been qualified for heaven and have been signed up for heaven secure, locked in. And they're just stunned.

  211. How could God do that to bring all these sinners safe home to heaven to be with them forever?

  212. And who's front and central to accept the credit? Well we're told here. It comes to God, the judge of all.

  213. God the father, the just judge of all, has acted and found a way to save those he rightly could have condemned.

  214. Wow. God the son with the marks of slaughter and blood on him. Showing evidence to the great cost,

  215. the cost that the father asked the son to pay and the cost that the son gladly paid

  216. to establish the church, the community of God's saved people. And God the Holy Spirit,

  217. whose indwelling of each and every believer is a guarantee that that relationship, that new relationship,

  218. will last for eternity and will actually make us like our Savior.

  219. And then there's different imagery in verses 26, 27 and 28. It's as if the writer's saying,

  220. look, this whole thing that we're seeing here, the church, is absolutely seismic in God's world.

  221. And that's the imagery of these verses.

  222. At that time, his voice shook the earth. But now he has promised, yet once more I will shake not only the earth, but the heavens.

  223. Mount Sinai shook when God gathered his people as a sign of God's awesome saving presence in the world.

  224. God's purpose would triumph, not sin.

  225. But that shake-up was nothing compared to the shake-up of our world when Christ died.

  226. Quite literally, the verses are saying that the Lord shook the world so much and put a condemned sticker

  227. on all the apparently strong and lasting things in this world.

  228. And on the other hand, he put an unbreakable sticker on his church,

  229. which is currently despised and appears weak and unstable.

  230. Testimony to God's glory.

  231. It may be hard for us to believe, harder even still to grasp,

  232. but the only really secure thing in this world is being part of God's glorious church.

  233. This is the only community, the only entity that will span this world and eternity,

  234. if I understand scripture right.

  235. And all this is given expression in local assemblies or church families.

  236. Clearly, verses 22, 23, and 24 are a picture of the absolute glory of heaven

  237. with all Christ's people from all generations, all time, past, present, and future,

  238. present and accounted for, and worshipping as they were created to.

  239. But the language of these verses and the context in which they were written

  240. to little groups of Christians scattered all around the Roman Empire

  241. makes it clear that it also includes the Christians,

  242. those ordinary men and women and boys and girls in local churches

  243. to whom this was written as encouragement.

  244. local churches are the visible expression of the reality of God's church in heaven.

  245. We here, this morning, are a visible expression of the reality of God's church in heaven.

  246. And that, in turn, then, has implication for us as a local church.

  247. What is said about the church in heaven is said also about local church expressions here,

  248. such as we are.

  249. Because we are the church of Christ gathered here at Glendale.

  250. What are the implications?

  251. Well, there are a couple, and then I'll drill down into them.

  252. Verse 25.

  253. Say to it that you do not refuse him who is speaking.

  254. There it is.

  255. You see, God speaks.

  256. We need to listen and align our understanding, our thinking, our commitment to the church

  257. according to God's word, according to God's eyes, according to God's view of it.

  258. And verse 29.

  259. Frame this whole paragraph.

  260. Therefore, let us offer to God acceptable worship.

  261. With reverence and awe, for our God is a consuming fire.

  262. Same thing.

  263. Listen at the beginning of the passage, and heed.

  264. Align.

  265. Respond.

  266. Practical implications are clear.

  267. When a local church like ours listens and follows God's word on the nature and importance of the church,

  268. then, my friends, we will start to look like, and we should start to look like, the one we are following.

  269. Reflecting his love, his commitment, his purposes.

  270. His holiness.

  271. His glory.

  272. In some senses, I could stop there.

  273. Because that's a pretty searching point of application in itself.

  274. Can you find yourself in that statement?

  275. Do you believe that you, as an individual in this church, look like the God you say you're following,

  276. whose view of the church has just been expressed?

  277. Together, do we look like that?

  278. Do we look like the God we are following?

  279. As a unit?

  280. Do people say, when they look at us as a church,

  281. something that's so radically different from what the world is?

  282. They say, well, look,

  283. we don't actually know how to explain it,

  284. but these people are radically different.

  285. They've got something that we don't see out in the world.

  286. Or if they come in our doors, do they just hang around for a while and think,

  287. yep, yep, yep, yep,

  288. recognize all that sort of stuff,

  289. all that crap,

  290. all that nonsense.

  291. Yep.

  292. Yep.

  293. Yep.

  294. Following God's word

  295. means gospel-shaped community.

  296. That's what we need to be thinking about here as a church.

  297. And that, I think, means,

  298. and it's one of the big things in our society,

  299. it means rejecting individualism.

  300. You can't have a gospel-shaped community

  301. and also have strong individualism and me-ism

  302. operating in a church community,

  303. our church community.

  304. See, the church is God's big idea.

  305. Contrary to what some people think,

  306. it's not been dreamed up by pastors

  307. as a means of controlling people

  308. and manipulating people into doing what we want them to do.

  309. Sadly,

  310. over the years,

  311. that's probably been used to that end,

  312. but that's not what the church is.

  313. It's God's idea.

  314. It's not something,

  315. therefore,

  316. we can sit loosely to

  317. just getting involved

  318. when we decide it's convenient

  319. or when we decide it's desirable

  320. or when we decide it's personally beneficial.

  321. Yet, so commonly,

  322. that is our commitment level to the church.

  323. The reality of our being gathered in heaven

  324. as God's family

  325. is expressed practically

  326. in being organically integrated,

  327. gathered in a local church family.

  328. The relationships in our world

  329. are so disconnected,

  330. so dysfunctional at every level.

  331. We're made for community.

  332. We're made especially

  333. to enjoy the eternal community

  334. at Genesis 1 and 2.

  335. Enjoy eternal community

  336. with Father, Son, and Spirit.

  337. We long for connection.

  338. We long to be part of an organic whole,

  339. and that's what our whole society longs for.

  340. It isn't strange, therefore,

  341. that even as Christians,

  342. saved and gathered into God's eternal community

  343. here,

  344. in this place,

  345. we actually fear true community.

  346. We fear deep community,

  347. and we default back to individualism.

  348. Because individualism is safe

  349. in lots of ways.

  350. Meism allows a lot of freedom,

  351. a wrong sort of freedom,

  352. but it allows me to cherry-pick

  353. what I want from this community

  354. and what I contribute to this community.

  355. And when we do that,

  356. we actually then complain

  357. because we don't feel connected

  358. in the church.

  359. Isn't that a bizarre twist?

  360. We demand a freedom

  361. not to be connected,

  362. and then we complain

  363. that we're not connected.

  364. Hmm.

  365. There you go.

  366. See, the Bible knows nothing

  367. of salvation

  368. as a solitary,

  369. individualistic experience.

  370. God's purpose

  371. in this world

  372. has never simply

  373. been to save people

  374. from their sin.

  375. Rather,

  376. His purpose

  377. has always been

  378. to save people

  379. from their sin

  380. into a community

  381. of people

  382. who truly worship Him.

  383. So following God

  384. into church

  385. is to delight

  386. in being part

  387. of the community

  388. which God has planned

  389. and acted

  390. to make glorious

  391. and permanent in heaven.

  392. My friends,

  393. it's the context

  394. of seeing this community

  395. as the community

  396. in which you will grow

  397. and which I will grow

  398. and thrive

  399. and come to maturity

  400. and be the person

  401. that Christ wants us to be.

  402. and recognizing

  403. we cannot do it

  404. in isolation,

  405. in individualism.

  406. Our church here

  407. should never just be

  408. an organization

  409. or a club

  410. that you belong to

  411. out of some sense

  412. of Christian duty.

  413. And my friends,

  414. this organism,

  415. this gathering

  416. of Christ's people,

  417. therefore,

  418. hopefully you'll see,

  419. can never be irrelevant,

  420. can never be out of date,

  421. can never be

  422. reached its use by date.

  423. The second thing

  424. that I'm nearly down to finish,

  425. following God's word

  426. means gospel

  427. revealing community.

  428. It's a demonstrated reality

  429. of the changing power

  430. of the gospel.

  431. Now friends,

  432. I want to just say here

  433. that community of itself

  434. is not enough

  435. to shape us properly

  436. as God's church.

  437. Community of itself

  438. is not enough

  439. to shape us

  440. as God's church.

  441. we must pray for

  442. and work towards

  443. and build

  444. gospel revealing

  445. community.

  446. Now what do I mean by that?

  447. Well let me try and explain.

  448. So many churches

  449. have really strong

  450. community

  451. at their heart.

  452. I think this church

  453. has a really strong

  454. community

  455. at heart.

  456. But it's not necessarily

  457. a gospel revealing

  458. community.

  459. It's not a community

  460. that arises

  461. directly as a consequence

  462. of gospel change

  463. in our lives.

  464. So it's common

  465. to mistake

  466. one for the other.

  467. In Ephesians 2

  468. the church

  469. is described

  470. as a radical

  471. new humanity

  472. which is displayed

  473. in relationships

  474. freed from

  475. the normal divisions

  476. and distractions

  477. of our sinful world.

  478. The picture

  479. in Ephesians 2

  480. is enemies

  481. Jew

  482. and Gentile

  483. coming together

  484. in the wonderful

  485. new relationship

  486. where their identity

  487. of each

  488. is no longer

  489. found in their race

  490. or their national

  491. background

  492. but in Christ

  493. and that brings them

  494. together.

  495. And the fact that you see

  496. a Jew and a Gentile

  497. Ephesians 2

  498. sitting together

  499. in church

  500. is a gospel

  501. revealing

  502. community.

  503. It's a relationship

  504. that wouldn't happen

  505. apart from

  506. gospel change

  507. in each of the lives.

  508. in our church

  509. there are so many

  510. relationships

  511. centered on things

  512. other than the gospel.

  513. That is

  514. we form relationships

  515. quite naturally

  516. because of similar

  517. life experience.

  518. Older people

  519. those with kids

  520. you know

  521. younger people

  522. young professionals

  523. who don't have kids

  524. we naturally

  525. gravitate to people

  526. who are like us

  527. similar life experience

  528. or similar stage of life

  529. or similar

  530. personal identity

  531. we actually

  532. orientate ourselves

  533. to people who

  534. like the things

  535. we like

  536. and dislike

  537. the things

  538. we dislike.

  539. We orientate

  540. to people

  541. and form friendships

  542. with people

  543. who have similar

  544. causes to what we do

  545. whether political

  546. or social

  547. or economic causes.

  548. We orientate

  549. to people

  550. who have

  551. similar felt needs.

  552. because we

  553. gravitate to people

  554. who understand

  555. our feelings

  556. understand our

  557. situation.

  558. All of those

  559. relationships

  560. are good things

  561. they're all

  562. community building

  563. things

  564. but they're not

  565. gospel revealing

  566. relationships

  567. necessarily

  568. because they would

  569. probably exist

  570. even if the gospel

  571. didn't.

  572. We need to push

  573. further

  574. and demonstrate

  575. the wisdom

  576. and power

  577. and glory

  578. of God

  579. and relationships

  580. that exist

  581. only because

  582. of the gospel.

  583. That is

  584. relationships

  585. that happen

  586. across the

  587. age

  588. difference

  589. across

  590. interest

  591. difference

  592. across

  593. economic

  594. differences

  595. social

  596. differences

  597. racial

  598. differences

  599. divides.

  600. I want our

  601. church to be

  602. known

  603. and so

  604. obvious

  605. when people

  606. come in

  607. the door

  608. that our

  609. identity

  610. is in

  611. Christ

  612. and therefore

  613. we can

  614. fellowship

  615. with people

  616. that out

  617. in the

  618. world

  619. we wouldn't

  620. actually

  621. associate

  622. with

  623. let alone

  624. have a

  625. rich

  626. relationship

  627. with.

  628. So what

  629. do visitors

  630. see when

  631. they come

  632. in to

  633. visit us?

  634. do they see

  635. relationships

  636. that are

  637. truly

  638. framed

  639. Ephesians 2

  640. again

  641. by genuine

  642. reconciliation

  643. out in the

  644. world

  645. they'd expect

  646. people to be

  647. fighting the bit

  648. out

  649. standing on

  650. their dig

  651. and holding

  652. their crutches

  653. but when they

  654. come in here

  655. do they see

  656. that those

  657. things don't

  658. exist

  659. or do they

  660. say yep

  661. recognize

  662. them all

  663. do they see

  664. us pursuing

  665. relationships

  666. that are

  667. actually really

  668. costly to

  669. pursue

  670. because the

  671. relationships

  672. across such

  673. obvious human

  674. divides if I

  675. can call it

  676. that

  677. and do they

  678. see us then

  679. pursuing those

  680. relationships

  681. at all costs

  682. or do they

  683. again do they

  684. see the

  685. natural

  686. clicks

  687. you'd see

  688. at any

  689. other point

  690. in society

  691. surely my

  692. friends we

  693. often wonder

  694. why the

  695. church

  696. doesn't have

  697. a great

  698. deal of

  699. influence in

  700. our world

  701. surely if we

  702. had relationships

  703. like I've

  704. just described

  705. surely that

  706. would make the

  707. world sit up

  708. and look and

  709. say man oh

  710. man that's

  711. different

  712. surely that

  713. would be a

  714. compelling

  715. community

  716. at least

  717. to ask the

  718. question what

  719. drives them

  720. well perhaps

  721. you've never

  722. thought of

  723. church like

  724. this before

  725. this might

  726. be new to

  727. you or

  728. perhaps you've

  729. grown weary

  730. perhaps you've

  731. been hurt by

  732. bad experience

  733. of church

  734. and you're

  735. now seeing

  736. your view of

  737. church through

  738. your own

  739. experience

  740. your own

  741. feelings

  742. your own

  743. biases

  744. rather than

  745. seeing it

  746. through God's

  747. eyes

  748. so I'll just

  749. finish with this

  750. sentence

  751. the old

  752. saying I

  753. think remains

  754. true

  755. beauty is

  756. in the eye

  757. of the

  758. beholder

  759. so what do

  760. you see when

  761. you look around

  762. at our local

  763. church expression

  764. beauty that

  765. draws you in

  766. or just a

  767. collection of

  768. annoying people

  769. that allows you

  770. to be self

  771. righteous

  772. and sit on

  773. the sidelines

  774. and snipe

  775. let me pray

  776. Lord help us

  777. to hear your

  778. word again

  779. as we've

  780. prayed this

  781. over the last

  782. five weeks

  783. help us to

  784. hear your

  785. word

  786. you've spoken

  787. clearly

  788. help us to

  789. listen

  790. and heed

  791. and respond

  792. radicalise us

  793. Lord in the

  794. truest sense

  795. of being

  796. servants of

  797. the Lord

  798. Jesus

  799. so we

  800. might be a

  801. compelling

  802. community

  803. gospel shaped

  804. and gospel

  805. revealing

  806. I pray this

  807. in Jesus name

  808. Amen

  809. Amen

  810. Amen

  811. Thank you.
