  1. My son, returning from school a few weeks ago,

  2. as he watched the snow fall, cried out in despair,

  3. My life is over!

  4. You see, he had set his heart that morning on playing soccer with Daddy in the backyard after school.

  5. And it's difficult to play soccer in the snow.

  6. And I told him that would not happen.

  7. And he said, cried out, cried out with a plaintive cry, My life is over!

  8. Life is so fragile for a seven-year-old.

  9. Sometimes, frivolous things can shake our lives, make us cry out plaintively.

  10. Sometimes they're frivolous things, like a snowfall and a desire to play soccer.

  11. Even for adults, sometimes they're frivolous things.

  12. Our favorite basketball team lost last night in heartbreaking fashion.

  13. Or your weekend plans are spoiled by sick kids.

  14. Or all sorts of fairly mundane losses in life.

  15. Sometimes, life feels fragile when more serious things happen.

  16. My girlfriend broke up with me.

  17. When you're 12, that's not so big deal, right?

  18. When you're 36, you've been dating for five years.

  19. That's a pretty big deal.

  20. I was let go of my employer.

  21. My application didn't go through.

  22. My spouse walked out on me.

  23. We just got the pathology report.

  24. When these things happen, it's easy for our heart to cry out,

  25. My life is over!

  26. It feels like death is encroaching.

  27. And covering over the life that we thought we would have.

  28. The life that we thought we would live.

  29. Something in our life has been lost, destroyed.

  30. And indeed, at times, never to be regained.

  31. This is death encroaching in our lives.

  32. We read earlier from the account of the disciples.

  33. Imagine the disciples turning home that Friday night.

  34. What just happened?

  35. We gave him our lives.

  36. We left everything to follow him.

  37. And now he's dead.

  38. He's gone.

  39. Our lives are over.

  40. Death has won.

  41. So our lives feel so suddenly fragile.

  42. The things that are so very precious are also so very breakable.

  43. The things that are so valuable are also so easy to lose in an instant.

  44. And indeed, the greater the investment of our lives, of our time, of our energy, of our commitment, of our heart to something,

  45. the greater the crisis when these things are lost.

  46. Friends, how do you respond in those moments?

  47. Seven-year-old cries out honestly, freely,

  48. My life is over.

  49. What do we do?

  50. Shock.

  51. Disappointment.

  52. Devastation.

  53. Confusion.

  54. Anger.

  55. A sense of betrayal.

  56. A sense of despair.

  57. Where does life go from here?

  58. Friends, it's Easter morning.

  59. God has good words for us in light of this situation.

  60. What does the Bible have to say when all is lost?

  61. What good does God have to say to us, especially on Easter morning?

  62. This is what we're going to spend a few minutes exploring today.

  63. If you want to turn with me in your pew Bibles to page 984, we're looking at Colossians chapter 3.

    Colossians 3 chapter mention

  64. In Colossians chapter 3, the Apostle Paul, in writing to the church in Colossae,

    Colossians 3 chapter mention

  65. is reminding them and instructing them on what it means that Jesus has risen from the dead.

  66. And he is applying it to their lives and helping them see the difference that it makes to them.

  67. And I hope this morning that we will see the difference that it makes for us as well.

  68. So Colossians chapter 3, verses 1 through 4.

    Colossians 3:1–4

  69. If then you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above where Christ is,

  70. seated at the right hand of God.

  71. Set your minds on things above, not on the things that are on earth.

  72. For you have died and your life is hidden with Christ in God.

  73. When Christ, who is your life, appears, then you also will appear with him in glory.

  74. Will you pray with me?

  75. Lord, this morning we need your help.

  76. Lord, we need your help to understand what your word has to say to us.

  77. We need help, Lord, because we so easily lose sight of and misunderstand who you are and what you have done.

  78. God, I pray this morning that as we think about Jesus risen from the dead,

  79. that you would help us to understand what a wonderful truth, what good news that is for us today.

  80. I pray these things in Jesus' name.

  81. Amen.

  82. When the worst things befall you, life is not over.

  83. Death has not won.

  84. In the resurrection of Jesus, in fact, Paul is saying,

  85. your life has only just begun.

  86. And it's in communion with, in fellowship with, in connection with,

  87. the resurrected Jesus, in fact, that we find a true,

  88. an unbreakable life that can withstand the greatest trials and the greatest losses of life.

  89. This is what Paul is pointing to us in this passage.

  90. Resurrection is the best news in the world as we face the fragility of our lives.

  91. We're going to look at two basic things.

  92. One, we're going to look at the beginning.

  93. He says, since or if you have been raised with Christ,

  94. and we're going to talk about what that means.

  95. And then we're going to talk about then, how do we live in light of that?

  96. What difference does it make?

  97. The resurrected Christ is the basis of a new life.

  98. And so we have to look first at this great passage.

  99. Verse 1,

  100. There are two parts of this for us that we need to unpack for us to really embrace it and for us to feel it.

  101. The first one is the objective reality that Christ has been raised from the dead.

  102. Right?

  103. Paul is assuming this when he says this statement.

  104. How do we know this is true?

  105. Well, we've read about it.

  106. The gospel Luke tells us that this is what happened.

  107. The disciples showed up at the tomb.

  108. And there was an angel saying,

  109. Why do you seek the living among the dead?

  110. He is not here.

  111. He is risen just as he said.

  112. This is the most fundamental truth claim of the Christian faith.

  113. Is that Jesus in real space time history,

  114. His actual literal physical body was dead and was brought again to life.

  115. And that not only did he rise to that new life,

  116. But then he walked out of the tomb after God had rolled the stone away.

  117. And he appeared to many people while he lived on this earth in physical bodies where people could touch him and see him and hear him and eat with him.

  118. And then he ascended into heaven.

  119. Not as a spirit, but as a body.

  120. A real resurrected body.

  121. And Christians claim that this makes all the difference.

  122. Because if he had simply died and gone to his grave like every other human being,

  123. Then all the things that we often like to think about Jesus,

  124. He was a great teacher.

  125. He was a moral example.

  126. He built a vision of a better society and a better world.

  127. All of those things could still be true.

  128. But Christianity says something actually quite different about Jesus.

  129. It says that Jesus was raised from the dead.

  130. And therefore,

  131. His death had a power.

  132. Unlike any other life.

  133. Unlike any other person.

  134. Because when,

  135. The Bible says when he died,

  136. He died in our place.

  137. He died for our sin.

  138. He took the penalty,

  139. The death,

  140. That we deserve for our rejection and rebellion against the Lord of life and the creator of all things.

  141. The Bible claims that Jesus' death made a difference by dying in our place.

  142. But if he had simply stayed in the grave,

  143. He would have died like any other man.

  144. By his rising from the dead,

  145. He proved that he was able to die not for himself,

  146. But for us.

  147. And that the judgment that he took upon himself by dying,

  148. Was not for his own sin,

  149. But for the sin of others.

  150. And by rising to new life,

  151. He is now a living Savior.

  152. Did you see what Paul says about him?

  153. Christ is now seated at the right hand of God in heaven.

  154. Like a general having returned from his victorious campaign,

  155. He has now sat down,

  156. Because the enemies of sin and death have been conquered.

  157. Not merely by his death,

  158. But especially by his resurrection from the dead.

  159. And he is not only a conquering king,

  160. But he is a living Savior.

  161. He is a real person who we can talk to in prayer,

  162. Who intercedes with us before the heavenly,

  163. Who is able to help us in our weakness and in our trials.

  164. He is a real person,

  165. Alive to whom we can relate.

  166. Death could not hold him.

  167. The power of sin was broken.

  168. And he is able now to give us new life.

  169. This is the claim.

  170. Christianity affirmed that because Jesus is risen from the dead,

  171. Death is no longer the end.

  172. Now, I want to spend a few minutes,

  173. Because I am sure there are a few of you,

  174. Maybe many of you,

  175. Who are thinking,

  176. This sounds a little fantastical.

  177. This sounds a little bit like the sci-fi movie that I saw last week.

  178. This sounds like a great story.

  179. But I just don't think it could really be true.

  180. And throughout history,

  181. There have been all sorts of arguments about how this has happened.

  182. Maybe Jesus didn't really die.

  183. Maybe he just passed out.

  184. Maybe the disciples hallucinated when they claimed that he saw him after he raised from the dead.

  185. Maybe the apostles,

  186. So wishing that he was still alive,

  187. Created a whole myth about his resurrection,

  188. Knowing that it wasn't true.

  189. But hopefully believing that that idea would somehow carry on and do good in the world.

  190. Now,

  191. Though these things have all been posited and explored throughout the history of humanity since Jesus' death,

  192. None of these actually stand up to good, historical, rigorous exploration.

  193. I was a history major in college.

  194. Historical evidence is not the same thing as scientific evidence.

  195. We cannot put to test Jesus rising from the dead again.

  196. There's no test tube.

  197. There's no repeatable hypothesis to be tested.

  198. But as a history major,

  199. There are good reasons to believe.

  200. There are lots of good reasons to believe that,

  201. In fact,

  202. Jesus rising from the dead,

  203. And the account of those who saw him and met him,

  204. Are as credible as all sorts of things that you believe about Julius Caesar and Alexander the Great,

  205. And all sorts of other historical people of the past.

  206. Friends,

  207. I'm not going to bore you.

  208. I'll be honest with you.

  209. I'm not going to bore you with all the arguments this morning.

  210. If this is something you are interested in,

  211. There are good resources.

  212. There's a great debate out there.

  213. You can see it,

  214. I believe,

  215. Online.

  216. It's become a book,

  217. too.

  218. Gary Habermas and Anthony Flew.

  219. Did Jesus rise from the dead?

  220. It's a debate between an atheist who said it didn't,

  221. And a Christian who said,

  222. No,

  223. I think it did.

  224. I recommend it to you.

  225. William Lane Craig,

  226. Knowing the Truth About the Resurrection,

  227. Our Response to the Empty Tomb,

  228. Another Great Philosophical Approach to This.

  229. There are books downstairs.

  230. Friends,

  231. If you're interested,

  232. Come to Christianity Explored next week.

  233. Come after church next week,

  234. And talk,

  235. And ask your questions about whether this could be true or not.

  236. Because,

  237. You know what?

  238. I get it.

  239. It sounds crazy.

  240. Because it's not natural for someone to rise from the dead.

  241. Right?

  242. It doesn't happen very often.

  243. In fact,

  244. It has happened only a few times in history,

  245. I would wager to say.

  246. But friends,

  247. What I want you to see is that,

  248. The Bible never claimed it to be natural.

  249. It is supernatural.

  250. It is a work of God.

  251. And that doesn't make it less real.

  252. It makes it more.

  253. And if you're wondering about it,

  254. Explore it.

  255. God has brought you here this morning,

  256. And I pray that you would hear the summons,

  257. To actually find out what you think about it.

  258. Actually examine the evidence.

  259. Actually look at the textual variance,

  260. And look at the way that history was told.

  261. Look at the situation and the context.

  262. Take a challenge from me,

  263. To pick this up and pursue it.

  264. Because,

  265. If he didn't die,

  266. And rise from the dead,

  267. As the Bible says,

  268. Then Paul says,

  269. Those of us who are Christians,

  270. Who worship Jesus,

  271. Yeah, we're just,

  272. Believe in something.

  273. You know,

  274. We might as well believe that,

  275. I won't even,

  276. I'm not even going there.

  277. We might as well believe that Martians,

  278. Are going to bring,

  279. You know,

  280. Papayas to our country,

  281. Or something like that.

  282. You know,

  283. We might as well believe something,

  284. Just completely ridiculous.

  285. If he didn't rise from the dead,

  286. What we believe,

  287. Is just foolishness.

  288. And we are men,

  289. Most to be pitied.

  290. But the Bible claims that if it is true,

  291. If it was factually true,

  292. Then it changes everything.

  293. And friends,

  294. It changes everything about how we live,

  295. And how we die,

  296. How we face the greatest losses,

  297. And the greatest trials of life.

  298. It makes all the difference.

  299. So Paul starts with this,

  300. Objective reality,

  301. Christ has been raised from the dead,

  302. But look again,

  303. Verse 1,

  304. Right?

  305. It's not just that this thing happened 2,000 years ago,

  306. But verse 1 says what?

  307. If you have been raised with Christ,

  308. So suddenly this objective historical reality,

  309. Paul's saying,

  310. Has become real for you.

  311. Now,

  312. We need to make sure we get our English grammar right.

  313. If is the first word,

  314. It's a perfectly good reading of the word,

  315. But if can be used in different ways.

  316. If might be introducing an uncertainty.

  317. Well,

  318. If this had happened for you,

  319. But instead,

  320. Here it's more of a logical if.

  321. It's creating the basis of an argument.

  322. A better word in English might be since.

  323. Paul is talking to believers,

  324. Who have professed their faith,

  325. In this risen Jesus.

  326. And so he says,

  327. Since you,

  328. Have been raised with Christ.

  329. What in the world does that mean?

  330. I mean,

  331. Seriously.

  332. He died 2,000 years ago.

  333. Even if he did rise from the grave.

  334. What does it mean?

  335. That I have been raised with Christ?

  336. This doesn't make any sense at all, does it?

  337. Well, let's explore it.

  338. Because it points to the very central reality.

  339. That Christians,

  340. By placing their faith in Jesus,

  341. Enter into a very real union with him.

  342. A spiritual reality where we are joined with Christ.

  343. And we are joined with Christ in both his death and his resurrection.

  344. Because in that is where we find, in fact,

  345. Our salvation,

  346. Our hope,

  347. Our restoration to a relationship with God.

  348. We have died with Christ.

  349. What does this mean?

  350. When Christ died on the cross,

  351. He died for our sins.

  352. When we died with Christ,

  353. We died to our sin.

  354. What is sin?

  355. Sin is our rejection of God.

  356. Our independent spirit.

  357. Our desire to be self-centered,

  358. Rather than God-centered in the world.

  359. Our loveless pursuit of our own agenda,

  360. Rather than a loving pursuit of God.

  361. And loving him and his creation and his world.

  362. Sin is an egocentric worldview.

  363. And an egocentric life that says,

  364. No God, I don't want you.

  365. I want to be God in my life.

  366. And what Paul is saying here is that

  367. When we are joined with Christ,

  368. Dying with him,

  369. We are dying to that old way.

  370. We are dying to ourself.

  371. We are dying to our selfishness.

  372. We are dying to the right to say,

  373. This is my life,

  374. And I'm going to do with it what I want,

  375. And I'm going to determine what is right and wrong.

  376. We are dying to a life that is apart from God,

  377. And in rejection of God.

  378. But it also is dying to death itself.

  379. Because all that sin and all that rejection

  380. Brings us spiritual death.

  381. And when we die with Christ

  382. To our sin and to our old way,

  383. We die to death itself.

  384. When we place our faith that what Jesus did

  385. Makes a difference for me,

  386. Now,

  387. Not only have I died with Christ

  388. To sin and to the old way,

  389. Right?

  390. You see it in verse 3,

  391. For you have died,

  392. Right?

  393. Not only have we died,

  394. But now we have been raised with Christ

  395. To a new life.

  396. Where once self reigns,

  397. Now God reigns in our hearts

  398. And in our lives.

  399. Where once egocentric life

  400. Made things about me,

  401. Now suddenly my life is lived for him.

  402. And for his world,

  403. And for his creation.

  404. Where once,

  405. I stood apart from God,

  406. Rejected him,

  407. And stood under his condemnation.

  408. Now I am free from the guilt of that.

  409. Freed from the shame

  410. Of my brokenness and my imperfection.

  411. Freed from my destructive patterns

  412. To find life on my own.

  413. And freed to seek after life.

  414. In Christ.

  415. With Christ.

  416. That I never could have otherwise.

  417. Everything changes

  418. When we place our faith in Christ.

  419. When we say,

  420. Yes, Jesus,

  421. I'm a sinner.

  422. I can't save myself.

  423. I will throw myself on you

  424. And your mercy.

  425. I will believe that your life

  426. And death and resurrection

  427. Are able to save me from my sin.

  428. When we place our faith in Jesus.

  429. Everything changes.

  430. Fundamentally we are changed.

  431. You are no longer

  432. The caterpillar trapped in sin.

  433. But you are the butterfly.

  434. You are no longer

  435. The ugly duckling.

  436. But you are the beautiful swan.

  437. You are now a new creation.

  438. And God has given you

  439. A new spiritual life.

  440. You have a new relationship

  441. With God.

  442. Friends, did you hear

  443. Diana's testimony earlier?

  444. Did you listen

  445. To how she talked about

  446. How in her battle with anxiety

  447. The resurrected Christ

  448. Made a difference in her life.

  449. She knew

  450. Because of her faith in Christ

  451. That she could live differently

  452. Because of that.

  453. It was a beautiful picture

  454. Of what it looks like

  455. To be raised with Christ.

  456. All right.

  457. So this is the first part.

  458. Paul has said

  459. If you've been raised with Christ

  460. And he's saying

  461. You who are Christians

  462. You who claim to believe in Jesus

  463. And that he rose from the dead

  464. And that you have now

  465. Been raised with him

  466. Into this new life.

  467. How then do you live?

  468. This is the second point

  469. I want to make this morning.

  470. Is that the resurrection life

  471. Of Jesus reshapes

  472. Our lives.

  473. Since we've been raised

  474. With Christ

  475. Then

  476. We now have a new life

  477. To live.

  478. What does that look like?

  479. Two things.

  480. First

  481. It reorders

  482. What we focus on.

  483. Do you see in verses

  484. One and two

  485. Look with me again.

  486. Do you see the verbs?

  487. If you've been raised

  488. With Christ

  489. Seek

  490. The things

  491. That are above.

  492. Verse two

  493. Set your minds

  494. On things above.

  495. These words have to do

  496. With a focus

  497. With our attention.

  498. The things that we spend

  499. Our time

  500. Thinking on

  501. Meditating on

  502. The things that consume

  503. Our thoughts

  504. Our prayers

  505. Our care

  506. Our love

  507. And devotion

  508. They're reflected

  509. In the things we value

  510. The people that we listen to

  511. And what we invest in

  512. And Paul is saying

  513. If you now have

  514. A new life with Christ

  515. Make it

  516. The overriding focus

  517. Of your life.

  518. If this is all

  519. That it's meant to be

  520. All that Christianity

  521. Claims it would be

  522. Then why would you

  523. Spend your time

  524. Thinking about

  525. Anything else?

  526. Well

  527. Let's be real

  528. Let's think through our day

  529. Think through our weekend

  530. What did you think

  531. About yesterday?

  532. I thought about

  533. Boiling a lot of Easter eggs

  534. For my kids to die

  535. I thought about

  536. Cleaning up the house

  537. For some people

  538. Who are coming over

  539. Afterwards

  540. I thought about

  541. I thought about

  542. How my kids are doing

  543. And how I've been

  544. Really distracted this week

  545. By a number of things

  546. And how

  547. They just need

  548. Some really good

  549. Daddy time

  550. And they haven't

  551. Gotten it yet

  552. And they're kind of

  553. Hurting because of that

  554. What else did I think about?

  555. I thought about my work

  556. I thought about

  557. Oh there's some things

  558. That I want to try

  559. To get to next week

  560. That I didn't get to

  561. Does this sound familiar?

  562. I thought about

  563. Oh I have to go

  564. To the grocery store

  565. And shop

  566. Because there are

  567. A few things

  568. I don't have

  569. In order to

  570. Be able to be ready

  571. For tomorrow

  572. I thought about

  573. I've got a sermon

  574. To write

  575. And I've got to

  576. Keep working on this

  577. So I can figure out

  578. What I've got to say

  579. And what it is

  580. The Lord has for us

  581. And in the middle of it

  582. I probably thought

  583. Man I'm really tired

  584. I wish I could take a nap

  585. But I don't have time for that

  586. These are the things

  587. Right?

  588. That consume our everyday thoughts

  589. And our everyday lives

  590. Yes?

  591. Does this sound familiar?

  592. Yeah?

  593. Do you have to-do lists

  594. Running through?

  595. Okay

  596. And what Paul is saying

  597. Is now

  598. All of these things

  599. Which will still be true

  600. In your life

  601. You still have kids

  602. You still have grocery shopping

  603. You still have projects

  604. You still have work

  605. You still have relationships

  606. But suddenly

  607. They are reframed

  608. And they are the context

  609. In which we are to

  610. Seek the things above

  611. And set our minds

  612. On the things above

  613. The things of God

  614. And the things of Christ

  615. And the things of His kingdom

  616. In the middle

  617. Of those very mundane things

  618. We are to meditate on

  619. The faithfulness of God

  620. How well He provides for us

  621. How He is trustworthy

  622. Even when we can't see

  623. What He is doing

  624. How His mercy to us

  625. Is great in our weakness

  626. And in our failure

  627. How His grace

  628. Is abundant to us

  629. And can give us hope

  630. That we are not abandoned

  631. How His love

  632. Is deep

  633. And steadfast

  634. And secure

  635. For us

  636. We can think of the nature

  637. Of our salvation

  638. How when we were still sinners

  639. Christ died for us

  640. When we weren't even seeking Him

  641. He sought us out

  642. How He has done

  643. At the price of His very own life

  644. How He has paid for our sin

  645. So that we might be brought back to Him

  646. How He has loved us

  647. And the great work of salvation

  648. That He has wrought in Christ

  649. That removes the stain of our sin

  650. It takes away our guilt

  651. It removes our shame

  652. It calls us beloved

  653. Children

  654. Welcomed

  655. We are to think on how

  656. Because we are raised with Christ

  657. We now have a life

  658. That is indestructible

  659. Because no matter what happens

  660. Even if we die

  661. The life that we have

  662. In relationship with Christ

  663. This new life of faith

  664. In Christ

  665. The life that He has given us

  666. Death has lost its sting

  667. There is no more fear

  668. Of death

  669. And friends

  670. We get to think about this

  671. When we are planning

  672. Our shopping lists

  673. And when we are worrying about

  674. Our weekend plans

  675. And when we are

  676. Living out our calling

  677. And our vocation

  678. And our day to day work

  679. Christ is seated

  680. At the right hand of God

  681. He is in heaven

  682. Not on this earth

  683. Which is in rebellion against Him

  684. Paul says

  685. We have a new orientation

  686. And friends

  687. I know that this sometimes

  688. Feels like pie in the sky

  689. It feels like

  690. You just want to be

  691. So heavenly minded

  692. You are no earthly good

  693. But friends

  694. I will tell you what

  695. What Paul is saying

  696. Is that the only life

  697. Worth living

  698. Is really in heaven

  699. The only life

  700. Worth living

  701. Now

  702. Will be worth living

  703. Because you have set your mind

  704. Not on the things of this world

  705. But on the things of God

  706. And His kingdom

  707. This is where true life

  708. Is found

  709. Which brings me to my final point

  710. The resurrection life in Jesus

  711. Reorients

  712. What we look to

  713. For our life

  714. Verse 4

  715. Is one of those verses

  716. That has captivated

  717. Frustrated

  718. Frustrated

  719. Convicted

  720. Me

  721. As I have lived

  722. Look with me again

  723. In it

  724. When Christ

  725. Who is your life

  726. Appears

  727. Then you also

  728. Will appear with Him

  729. In glory

  730. Now

  731. Some of you are

  732. Probably good

  733. Grammar students

  734. Do you see

  735. There are two verb tenses

  736. In this

  737. Right

  738. What does it mean

  739. That Jesus has been raised

  740. From the dead

  741. That you have been raised

  742. With Him

  743. It means

  744. Something for today

  745. And something for

  746. The future

  747. Right

  748. Christ who is your life

  749. That is today

  750. Today

  751. Your life

  752. Is hidden

  753. With

  754. With

  755. God

  756. With Christ

  757. In God

  758. Is that right

  759. Verse 3

  760. With Christ

  761. In God

  762. Your life today

  763. Is already there

  764. You have this new life

  765. That He has given you

  766. And

  767. There is a life

  768. That will come

  769. When He appears

  770. You will appear with Him

  771. In glory

  772. Paul

  773. Paul is reminding us

  774. That because Jesus

  775. Is raised from the dead

  776. Because we

  777. By faith

  778. Have been joined

  779. With Him

  780. In that

  781. Christ is our life

  782. Today

  783. And our glory

  784. Forever

  785. And He wants us

  786. To see

  787. Life and death

  788. Differently

  789. Than before

  790. I don't know about you

  791. I used to think

  792. That my life

  793. Was about

  794. This 70 years

  795. On earth

  796. And then I would die

  797. And then my life

  798. Would be over

  799. Paul challenges us

  800. To think

  801. About it

  802. A little more

  803. A little more

  804. Carefully

  805. See here's what's true

  806. About my life

  807. When

  808. In

  809. 1986

  810. After a

  811. Grease

  812. Soaked

  813. Meal

  814. At a Friendly's

  815. In

  816. Suburban

  817. Pennsylvania

  818. I prayed

  819. Confessed

  820. My sin

  821. And God

  822. Gave me

  823. A new life

  824. In Christ

  825. In the front seat

  826. Of a Subaru

  827. With a youth worker

  828. In my town

  829. I became alive

  830. I became alive

  831. I was given

  832. A new life

  833. In that moment

  834. And now

  835. That life

  836. Is what I am living

  837. Now

  838. And that life

  839. Is what I will be

  840. Living for eternity

  841. And there will be

  842. This thing

  843. Somewhere along the way

  844. Which will happen

  845. Called death

  846. My physical death

  847. I will actually die

  848. But do you know what

  849. It doesn't actually

  850. Matter that much

  851. Anymore

  852. That's what Paul

  853. Is saying

  854. Christ is your life

  855. Now

  856. And your glory

  857. To come

  858. And that means

  859. That I don't have

  860. To wait

  861. For my life

  862. In eternity

  863. To happen

  864. I can have

  865. Life

  866. Now

  867. With Christ

  868. Friends

  869. I'll tell you

  870. What

  871. I struggle

  872. With this

  873. This is one

  874. Of the hardest

  875. Things

  876. For me

  877. To realize

  878. I wrestle

  879. With it

  880. To know

  881. What does it

  882. Really mean

  883. What

  884. Does it

  885. Really look

  886. Like

  887. Because

  888. Paul seems

  889. To be saying

  890. You have

  891. Life

  892. And life

  893. In that

  894. Has like

  895. Capital letters

  896. And like

  897. Glowing

  898. Colors

  899. And it's

  900. Meant to be

  901. This weighty

  902. Word

  903. Beyond

  904. Just four

  905. Letters

  906. In our

  907. In our

  908. Alphabet

  909. You have

  910. Now tapped

  911. Into the

  912. Very life

  913. Of God

  914. And he

  915. Has given

  916. You a

  917. Life

  918. That is

  919. Yours

  920. With him

  921. And it's

  922. Connected

  923. To things

  924. Like

  925. He is

  926. The satisfaction

  927. Of our

  928. Souls

  929. He is

  930. The

  931. Ultimate

  932. One

  933. On whom

  934. We rely

  935. For our

  936. Life

  937. We don't

  938. Look at

  939. The things

  940. We do

  941. Anymore

  942. To give us

  943. Life

  944. We don't

  945. Look at

  946. The relationships

  947. Anymore

  948. To give us

  949. Life

  950. They're a

  951. Part of

  952. Our life

  953. They're

  954. They're

  955. Significant

  956. Places

  957. Where we're

  958. Called to

  959. Live out

  960. Our life

  961. But they're

  962. Not the

  963. Source

  964. Of our

  965. Life

  966. Any

  967. Longer

  968. And all

  969. The things

  970. That I

  971. Thought were

  972. Little

  973. Deaths

  974. They were

  975. Real

  976. And they

  977. Were

  978. Hard

  979. But I

  980. Have a

  981. Life

  982. That's

  983. Unbreakable

  984. That started

  985. A long

  986. Time ago

  987. I don't

  988. Have to

  989. Wait to

  990. Die

  991. For that

  992. To

  993. Happen

  994. But

  995. There is

  996. Also a

  997. Reality

  998. That this

  999. Life has

  1000. A glory

  1001. Awaiting

  1002. It that

  1003. We have

  1004. Not yet

  1005. Experienced

  1006. Sin

  1007. Though

  1008. Broken

  1009. In our

  1010. Lives

  1011. Is not

  1012. Eradicated

  1013. We continue

  1014. To live

  1015. In a

  1016. Fallen

  1017. World

  1018. Where we

  1019. Experience

  1020. All these

  1021. Little

  1022. Deaths

  1023. Day

  1024. After

  1025. Day

  1026. But

  1027. Christ

  1028. Who has

  1029. Broken

  1030. The power

  1031. Of sin

  1032. And death

  1033. Who is

  1034. Raised

  1035. From the

  1036. Dead

  1037. Will come

  1038. Again

  1039. One day

  1040. And when

  1041. He comes

  1042. He will

  1043. Establish

  1044. A perfect

  1045. Kingdom

  1046. And those

  1047. Deaths

  1048. And death

  1049. Will be

  1050. No more

  1051. And life

  1052. Will be

  1053. All

  1054. There are

  1055. Many

  1056. Lessons I

  1057. Learned

  1058. From walking

  1059. With Brandy

  1060. Through her

  1061. Four year

  1062. Battle

  1063. With cancer

  1064. And ultimately

  1065. Her dying

  1066. A little

  1067. Over a

  1068. Year ago

  1069. Perhaps

  1070. This is

  1071. The one

  1072. That is

  1073. The greatest

  1074. The life

  1075. Of a

  1076. Christian

  1077. Is secure

  1078. In Christ

  1079. Both

  1080. For today

  1081. And for

  1082. Tomorrow

  1083. Friends

  1084. I watched

  1085. Her

  1086. Live out

  1087. What it

  1088. Meant for

  1089. Christ

  1090. To be

  1091. Her

  1092. Life

  1093. Today

  1094. She

  1095. Set her

  1096. Mind on

  1097. The things

  1098. Above

  1099. As she

  1100. Faced

  1101. The hardships

  1102. Of treatment

  1103. And the

  1104. Uncertainty

  1105. Of what

  1106. Would come

  1107. Ahead

  1108. She read

  1109. The scriptures

  1110. She prayed

  1111. With brothers

  1112. And sisters

  1113. She sought

  1114. Out the

  1115. Saints

  1116. Of old

  1117. Who knew

  1118. More than

  1119. Our 20th

  1120. Century

  1121. Church

  1122. Does

  1123. About death

  1124. And dying

  1125. And how

  1126. To face

  1127. It

  1128. As believers

  1129. She would

  1130. Go to

  1131. And sing

  1132. The great

  1133. Hymns

  1134. Of the

  1135. Faith

  1136. We taught

  1137. Our kids

  1138. Up from

  1139. The grave

  1140. He arose

  1141. We'd sing

  1142. It with

  1143. Gusto

  1144. Over the

  1145. Dinner table

  1146. At night

  1147. She journaled

  1148. And talked

  1149. With Jesus

  1150. In prayer

  1151. About her

  1152. Life now

  1153. And about

  1154. Her life

  1155. To come

  1156. And she

  1157. Loved

  1158. Well

  1159. She loved

  1160. Our kids

  1161. She loved

  1162. Our church

  1163. She loved

  1164. Her family

  1165. At a time

  1166. When it

  1167. Would be

  1168. So easy

  1169. For her

  1170. To be

  1171. Selfish

  1172. Even though

  1173. The death

  1174. Of cancer

  1175. Encroached

  1176. On her

  1177. Body

  1178. She knew

  1179. That Christ

  1180. Was her

  1181. Life

  1182. And she

  1183. Lived it

  1184. And I

  1185. Got to

  1186. See it

  1187. Up close

  1188. And then

  1189. In the

  1190. End

  1191. When it

  1192. Became

  1193. Clear

  1194. There

  1195. Wouldn't

  1196. Be

  1197. Many

  1198. More

  1199. Time

  1200. When death

  1201. Finally

  1202. Seemed to

  1203. Have

  1204. The upper

  1205. Hand

  1206. It

  1207. Didn't

  1208. She

  1209. Accepted

  1210. It

  1211. She knew

  1212. That death

  1213. Was not

  1214. Her end

  1215. She knew

  1216. That glory

  1217. Was awaiting

  1218. Her

  1219. And as

  1220. Her body

  1221. Deteriorated

  1222. Her desire

  1223. To go

  1224. And be

  1225. With

  1226. Jesus

  1227. To go

  1228. And be

  1229. With him

  1230. Where there

  1231. Was no

  1232. More sickness

  1233. And no

  1234. More pain

  1235. And no

  1236. More sorrow

  1237. Death

  1238. She knew

  1239. That her

  1240. Body

  1241. Would die

  1242. But she

  1243. Knew

  1244. That she

  1245. Would go

  1246. And be

  1247. With Jesus

  1248. And that

  1249. One day

  1250. Jesus

  1251. Would raise

  1252. Her

  1253. To new

  1254. Life

  1255. And give

  1256. Her a

  1257. New body

  1258. That would

  1259. Live

  1260. Forever

  1261. And it

  1262. Made all

  1263. The difference

  1264. I saw

  1265. Her

  1266. Take hold

  1267. Of the

  1268. Indestructible

  1269. Life

  1270. And it's

  1271. Taught me

  1272. Much

  1273. Watching her

  1274. Do this

  1275. Has been an

  1276. Immense amount

  1277. Of support

  1278. From my

  1279. Kids

  1280. People ask

  1281. Me often

  1282. How are

  1283. The kids

  1284. Doing

  1285. I say

  1286. You know

  1287. What

  1288. Theology

  1289. Matters

  1290. She didn't

  1291. Just disappear

  1292. She didn't

  1293. Just get

  1294. Buried

  1295. Into a

  1296. Box

  1297. In the

  1298. Ground

  1299. She has

  1300. Gone

  1301. To be

  1302. With

  1303. Jesus

  1304. She's

  1305. Living

  1306. Today

  1307. Able

  1308. To see

  1309. Them

  1310. And we

  1311. Know one

  1312. Day

  1313. That we

  1314. Will see

  1315. Her

  1316. If we

  1317. Too are

  1318. Raised

  1319. With

  1320. Christ

  1321. It

  1322. Makes

  1323. All the

  1324. Difference

  1325. So when

  1326. Life

  1327. Seems so

  1328. Fragile

  1329. When the

  1330. Things that

  1331. Seems so

  1332. Important

  1333. Have seen

  1334. To be

  1335. Breakable

  1336. Shakeable

  1337. When we

  1338. Face the

  1339. Greatest

  1340. Loss

  1341. If you've

  1342. Been raised

  1343. With Christ

  1344. There's

  1345. Resurrection

  1346. Life

  1347. For you

  1348. Life

  1349. Now

  1350. And life

  1351. Forever

  1352. More

  1353. Your

  1354. Life

  1355. Is not

  1356. Over

  1357. No matter

  1358. How great

  1359. The trial

  1360. Or the

  1361. Crisis

  1362. Is

  1363. But your

  1364. New life

  1365. Has just

  1366. Begun

  1367. Let's

  1368. Pray

  1369. Lord

  1370. Lord I

  1371. Pray

  1372. This

  1373. Morning

  1374. Lord

  1375. That you

  1376. Would

  1377. Teach

  1378. Our

  1379. Hearts

  1380. Teach

  1381. Our

  1382. Minds

  1383. Lord

  1384. We

  1385. Confess

  1386. How

  1387. Difficult

  1388. It

  1389. Is

  1390. At

  1391. Times

  1392. To

  1393. See

  1394. The

  1395. Glory

  1396. Of

  1397. The

  1398. Risen

  1399. Christ

  1400. To

  1401. Believe

  1402. That

  1403. It's

  1404. Actually

  1405. True

  1406. To

  1407. See

  1408. It

  1409. Actually

  1410. Make

  1411. A

  1412. Difference

  1413. In

  1414. Our

  1415. Lives

  1416. Lord

  1417. We

  1418. Confess

  1419. How

  1420. Often

  1421. Our

  1422. Eyes

  1423. And

  1424. Our

  1425. Hearts

  1426. Are

  1427. Fixed

  1428. On

  1429. The

  1430. Things

  1431. Of

  1432. This

  1433. World

  1434. Lord

  1435. We

  1436. Pray

  1437. You

  1438. Would

  1439. Lift

  1440. Our

  1441. Eyes

  1442. To

  1443. Remember

  1444. The

  1445. Goodness

  1446. And

  1447. The

  1448. Wonder

  1449. And

  1450. The

  1451. Awe

  1452. And

  1453. The

  1454. Beauty

  1455. Of

  1456. Our

  1457. Lives

  1458. With

  1459. Christ

  1460. Both

  1461. Here

  1462. And

  1463. Forever

  1464. More

  1465. Lord

  1466. I

  1467. Pray

  1468. For

  1469. Those

  1470. Who

  1471. This

  1472. Morning

  1473. May

  1474. Be

  1475. Exploring

  1476. Or

  1477. Thinking

  1478. Or

  1479. Evaluating

  1480. Whether

  1481. They

  1482. Truly

  1483. Know

  1484. This

  1485. Life

  1486. In

  1487. Christ

  1488. Lord

  1489. Reveal

  1490. Yourself

  1491. To

  1492. Them

  1493. Help

  1494. Them

  1495. To

  1496. Understand

  1497. What

  1498. A

  1499. Great

  1500. Savior

  1501. And

  1502. A

  1503. Loving

  1504. God

  1505. You

  1506. Are

  1507. What

  1508. You

  1509. Have

  1510. Done

  1511. Through

  1512. Your

  1513. Death

  1514. And

  1515. Resurrection

  1516. For

  1517. Them

  1518. And

  1519. Lord

  1520. For

  1521. All

  1522. Of

  1523. Us

  1524. We

  1525. Pray

  1526. That

  1527. We

  1528. Would

  1529. Be

  1530. Encouraged

  1531. This

  1532. Morning

  1533. Encouraged

  1534. To

  1535. Fix

  1536. Our

  1537. Eyes

  1538. Lord

  1539. On

  1540. These

  1541. Things

  1542. We

  1543. Pray

  1544. These

  1545. Things

  1546. In

  1547. Jesus

  1548. Name

  1549. Amen
