  1. Well, good morning. It's good to be with you.

  2. So I've thought about this morning, I've been thinking a lot about longing

  3. and how these have been days of longing in many different ways.

  4. My kids are longing for the end of school and for summer vacation

  5. and hopefully for a vacation where they actually will get to travel

  6. and see their family this summer.

  7. I am longing to see my fiancee again in person.

  8. Many of you have other things that you are longing for.

  9. As a group, many of us in this church are longing to gather together again

  10. in person, safely, and to have the blessing of being together.

  11. And as we've looked over in the last two weeks, we've seen a country longing

  12. for justice to roll down and righteousness to reign in our society.

  13. Longing is something that is common to the human heart.

  14. But it makes us ask a question, why?

  15. Why do we long?

  16. Why do we long for things that are not?

  17. Well, the Bible says, in part, we long because we were made for a kingdom

  18. that is not yet here.

  19. We are designed to have a life that we only get foretastes of in this life

  20. and that we live now in a world that is not yet all that God designed it to be.

  21. The Bible tells us that humanity began in perfect fellowship with God.

  22. But in rebellion and independence forsook the goodness of Eden and the presence of God.

  23. And since then, we have lived in a fallen world, broken, tear-stained, and ugly.

  24. And yet still, with the rays of creation and the inbreaking of redemption,

  25. tantalizing us, reminding us, reminding us of what we were made for and what we long for.

  26. Friends, this is the plight of humanity,

  27. that we live in exile from God and from our true home,

  28. and that this life is a journey in this world.

  29. We are sojourners in a world that will not last forever,

  30. and we are pilgrims longing for a heavenly city that we can,

  31. a heavenly city whose glory we can only begin to imagine.

  32. This is the true source of our longing,

  33. and it brings us to our passage today.

  34. We are taking a break from the book of James,

  35. and we are looking at Psalm 84.

  36. If you want to turn there in your Bibles,

  37. Psalm 84 we will read.

  38. And as we read this, we come to see that

  39. this is a psalm written by a pilgrim.

  40. One on their way.

  41. One who similarly lives with longings and desires.

  42. And we will see in this passage the heart of a pilgrim.

  43. So let's read Psalm 84 together.

  44. How lovely is your dwelling place, O Lord of hosts!

  45. My soul longs, yes, faints for the courts of the Lord.

  46. My heart and flesh sing for joy to the living God.

  47. Even the sparrow finds a home,

  48. and the swallow a nest for herself,

  49. where she may lay her young at your altars.

  50. O Lord of hosts, my God and my King,

  51. blessed are those who dwell in your house,

  52. ever singing your praise.

  53. And blessed are those whose strength is in you,

  54. in whose heart are the highways to Zion.

  55. As they go through the valley of Bacca,

  56. they make it a place of springs.

  57. The early rain also covers it with pools.

  58. They go from strength to strength.

  59. Each one appears before God in Zion.

  60. O Lord God of hosts, hear my prayer.

  61. Give ear, O God of Jacob.

  62. Behold our shield, O God.

  63. Look on the face of your anointed.

  64. For a day in your courts is better than a thousand elsewhere.

  65. I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God

  66. than dwell in the tents of wickedness.

  67. For the Lord God is a sun and shield.

  68. The Lord bestows favor and honor.

  69. No good thing does he withhold for those who walk uprightly.

  70. O Lord of hosts, blessed is the one who trusts in you.

  71. Let's pray together.

  72. Lord, we thank you for this word.

  73. We thank you that you speak to us.

  74. That we are not left alone on this journey,

  75. but that you have spoken so that we might hear your words

  76. and your voice as we travel through this life.

  77. God, I pray that by your spirit this morning,

  78. you would help encourage our hearts.

  79. Lord, that you would teach us about the life of a pilgrim.

  80. And Lord, that you would turn us again

  81. so that we might see what you have made us for.

  82. And Lord, give us strength to pursue you in this journey.

  83. Amen.

  84. We pray all these things in Jesus' name.

  85. Amen.

  86. The heart of humanity on pilgrimage through life

  87. is pictured in this psalm.

  88. We see a pilgrim who has a heart with two characteristics.

  89. He has a thirsty heart.

  90. He has a treasuring heart.

  91. So let's look at these in order.

  92. First, a thirsty heart.

  93. As you look at the beginning of the psalm,

  94. you see the pilgrim burst out in song.

  95. How lovely is your dwelling place, O God.

  96. He expresses this exaltation and joy

  97. about the place where he might know God.

  98. And then he says, I long for this.

  99. Yes, I even faint to be with God.

  100. I cry out.

  101. Maybe that's a better translation

  102. of the second half of verse two.

  103. My heart and flesh cry out in need

  104. and in desperation and in longing.

  105. I cry out to the living God.

  106. The psalmist envies the birds

  107. who are able to go and make their nests

  108. in the courts of the temple in Jerusalem.

  109. The sparrows and the swallows

  110. who are able to come and go easily

  111. to be in that place.

  112. And at the end in verse four of this section,

  113. he says, blessed are those

  114. who dwell in your house, O Lord.

  115. Now he's used a number of metaphors here.

  116. Your dwelling place, the courts,

  117. the place of the altar, and your house.

  118. And all of these things describe

  119. the temple in Jerusalem.

  120. And to understand why this pilgrim

  121. longs to be in the temple of Jerusalem,

  122. you have to understand the sweep

  123. of the Old Testament story.

  124. For when to the estranged world

  125. God came and called Abraham.

  126. He said, I will make you a father

  127. of many nations,

  128. and I will be your God.

  129. And he confirmed this with Moses in Sinai,

  130. and he said, I will be their God,

  131. and they will be my people,

  132. and I will dwell among them.

  133. And he instituted this thing

  134. called the tabernacle,

  135. which was a portable traveling worship center.

  136. And in that, God manifested

  137. his presence among them.

  138. And then as the people of God

  139. moved into the promised land

  140. and established themselves as a nation,

  141. and as the king sat on the throne,

  142. as David and Solomon took up

  143. and established this kingdom,

  144. then they built a temple,

  145. and in that temple,

  146. it said the glory of God

  147. descended,

  148. and in a unique way

  149. manifested itself,

  150. manifested himself

  151. in the world.

  152. And so for all who lived in Israel,

  153. for all who knew God,

  154. they would long to go

  155. to this temple,

  156. this place,

  157. not because God was limited

  158. to that place,

  159. but because God had chosen

  160. to make that place

  161. the very special place

  162. where his glory would be manifested,

  163. the place where his people

  164. could come and commune with him,

  165. make themselves right with him

  166. through the acts of worship

  167. and atonement,

  168. and sing praises to him.

  169. The pilgrim longs to be at the temple

  170. because it is a special place

  171. where God said,

  172. I will be among you.

  173. And so he longed for it,

  174. and he longed to be there

  175. because he longed to be with God,

  176. the living God.

  177. So for us today,

  178. are we to long to go back

  179. to a temple in Jerusalem?

  180. No, the Bible continues

  181. to unfold God's plan

  182. for how he will be their God

  183. and how he will make

  184. a people for himself

  185. and how the Old Testament

  186. people of Israel

  187. and the nation of Israel

  188. was a picture

  189. of what he wanted to do

  190. more broadly,

  191. where he would make

  192. a people for himself

  193. from every tribe

  194. and tongue and nation.

  195. And you see the fulfillment

  196. of this idea of the temple

  197. in three ways

  198. in the New Testament.

  199. First,

  200. you see Jesus coming

  201. in those famous words

  202. in John 1.

  203. As John writes about

  204. the coming

  205. of the Son of God to earth

  206. to redeem a people

  207. for himself,

  208. says the Word became flesh

  209. and literally tabernacled

  210. among us.

  211. He came

  212. to be the tabernacle,

  213. the presence of God

  214. among his people.

  215. And so Jesus is the first

  216. and maybe the greatest

  217. fulfillment of this

  218. where the temple is going.

  219. It prefigures

  220. this place

  221. where God himself

  222. would come

  223. and be among his people.

  224. But it's more than that.

  225. The Apostle Paul

  226. in 1 Corinthians 3.16

  227. talks about

  228. the people of God

  229. in the New Testament

  230. that is the church

  231. as the very temple

  232. of God.

  233. That is that

  234. in his gathering

  235. of people

  236. from every tribe

  237. and nation

  238. to be his

  239. by faith in Christ,

  240. he is building

  241. a,

  242. not a physical edifice,

  243. not a space,

  244. but he is building

  245. a community

  246. in which he dwells

  247. by his spirit.

  248. He says the same thing

  249. in 2 Corinthians 6.16,

  250. the presence of God

  251. by his spirit.

  252. And so that's

  253. the second

  254. thing that the temple

  255. is prefiguring

  256. and pointing to

  257. is the people of God

  258. now not located

  259. in a particular place

  260. in Jerusalem,

  261. but spread

  262. to the ends

  263. of the earth,

  264. gathering in places

  265. throughout the world.

  266. And then as we read

  267. the Bible story

  268. in the end,

  269. the future consummation

  270. in Revelation 21.22,

  271. when God

  272. having defeated

  273. all the powers

  274. of sin and death,

  275. having judged

  276. all evil

  277. and unrighteousness,

  278. having now

  279. remade the world

  280. so that it is

  281. without sin

  282. and sorrow

  283. and sickness

  284. and death,

  285. it says,

  286. there will be

  287. no more temple

  288. in that renewed world,

  289. for the temple

  290. is the Lord God,

  291. the Almighty,

  292. and the Lamb.

  293. And friends,

  294. this is what we long for,

  295. is it not?

  296. For us to be

  297. in the presence of God,

  298. our Creator

  299. and our Redeemer,

  300. to be with Him

  301. in present,

  302. in person,

  303. in perfection,

  304. where there will be

  305. no barrier

  306. of our sin

  307. and our lack

  308. of understanding,

  309. but we will fully

  310. know Him.

  311. what a great glory

  312. that is.

  313. And friends,

  314. this is what our hearts

  315. were made for,

  316. to be in the presence

  317. of the living God.

  318. I wonder,

  319. do you thirst for God

  320. the way the psalmist did?

  321. I know I don't,

  322. always.

  323. sometimes my heart

  324. doesn't want

  325. to long for God.

  326. See,

  327. I don't like

  328. being disappointed.

  329. Sometimes I'd rather

  330. kill my longing.

  331. If I don't desire anything,

  332. then

  333. it doesn't hurt so much

  334. when it doesn't happen.

  335. I don't like to live

  336. in the tension

  337. of longing for something

  338. that I can't control

  339. the outcome of,

  340. can't be sure

  341. of when it's going to come.

  342. sometimes

  343. I long for God

  344. and then it seems

  345. that He's so far away

  346. and there are other things

  347. closer by,

  348. earthly pleasures,

  349. control,

  350. success,

  351. addictions,

  352. whatever they are,

  353. things that I grab onto

  354. and say,

  355. well,

  356. at least I can get this.

  357. Or sometimes

  358. I just prefer despair

  359. when I can't get

  360. what I want

  361. when I want it.

  362. it's easier sometimes

  363. to settle

  364. than to thirst.

  365. But friend,

  366. the psalmist reminds us

  367. that God has made us

  368. for Himself.

  369. And this life

  370. of a pilgrim

  371. is to long for Him

  372. and for His presence.

  373. And we will live

  374. in the tension

  375. because the psalmist

  376. because the psalmist

  377. writes this psalm

  378. because He's not there,

  379. because He's not

  380. in the temple.

  381. He's longing to be there

  382. but He cannot be there.

  383. And this is true

  384. for us as well.

  385. Though we have

  386. the inbreaking

  387. of His kingdom,

  388. though we have

  389. the gift of His Spirit,

  390. we do not have

  391. the fullness yet.

  392. and so we live

  393. with that longing.

  394. And God

  395. wants us

  396. to continue

  397. in this.

  398. C.S. Lewis

  399. puts it

  400. this way,

  401. I must keep

  402. alive in myself

  403. the desire

  404. for my true country

  405. which I shall not

  406. find until death.

  407. I must never

  408. let it get

  409. snowed under

  410. or turned aside.

  411. I must make it

  412. the main object

  413. of my life

  414. to press on

  415. to that other country

  416. and help others

  417. do the same.

  418. Friends,

  419. when we think

  420. about our longing

  421. as a church,

  422. this is what

  423. we are called to.

  424. And I don't know

  425. if you've ever

  426. thought about it,

  427. but this is why

  428. we value

  429. gathering together

  430. as a church.

  431. Because this is

  432. the foretaste.

  433. This is the place

  434. where we get to

  435. by gathering together

  436. in person

  437. encourage one another

  438. and strengthen one another

  439. and remind one another

  440. and long together

  441. for the fullness

  442. that is to come.

  443. To speak of the hope

  444. that we are certain

  445. of coming one day

  446. but do not have yet

  447. and to encourage

  448. one another

  449. when we are weak,

  450. when we are stumbling,

  451. and when we want

  452. to give up.

  453. This is why

  454. the leadership

  455. of the church

  456. has been so eager

  457. to figure out

  458. how we could gather again.

  459. And for those of you

  460. who for good reason

  461. may not be able

  462. to join us

  463. in the coming weeks

  464. and months,

  465. let this be

  466. a place where you

  467. will take hold

  468. of that longing

  469. and feed it.

  470. Don't become discouraged

  471. and certainly

  472. don't compare yourself

  473. with others who are,

  474. but let your

  475. not coming

  476. feed that longing

  477. to be with God's people.

  478. for those of us

  479. who may come

  480. and do it,

  481. may we give

  482. with great joy

  483. give thanks

  484. for this oasis

  485. in the desert

  486. after a long

  487. shutdown.

  488. for it's been

  489. a long shutdown,

  490. it's a hard road,

  491. has it not been,

  492. to be separate.

  493. The psalmist knows this

  494. in the next part

  495. of the psalm

  496. in verses 5-9,

  497. he displays,

  498. he knows that

  499. this journey

  500. is one that goes

  501. through the valley

  502. of Baccah

  503. and we don't know

  504. much about it,

  505. but we know clearly

  506. that what it's picturing

  507. is going through

  508. a desert.

  509. And the psalmist

  510. knows

  511. how hard

  512. that can be.

  513. But in these

  514. verses

  515. in 5-9,

  516. he says,

  517. in this journey

  518. we are able

  519. to find strength

  520. in God.

  521. And as we look

  522. to Him

  523. and as we look

  524. to His help

  525. for us,

  526. we are able

  527. not only to pursue

  528. Him in the journey,

  529. not give up

  530. in our longing,

  531. but in fact

  532. we are actually

  533. made to be,

  534. look at verse 6 again,

  535. that we will

  536. make the desert

  537. a place

  538. of springs,

  539. that in the midst

  540. of the pilgrimage

  541. of this world,

  542. we can be,

  543. because of what

  544. God has done,

  545. places where

  546. there will be

  547. a foretaste

  548. of the fullness

  549. of the presence

  550. of God.

  551. And this is true

  552. in our spiritual lives,

  553. this is true

  554. in our society,

  555. this is true

  556. in our church,

  557. that we can be

  558. pools of water,

  559. water,

  560. and it will

  561. come from pilgrims,

  562. and it will also

  563. come graciously

  564. from God Himself.

  565. The rains will come,

  566. and we will drink

  567. in the midst

  568. of the desert,

  569. because God knows

  570. how hard

  571. this road is.

  572. So we're called

  573. to look for it.

  574. finally,

  575. in this longing

  576. section,

  577. I want you to see

  578. that He changes

  579. His pronouns here

  580. from I,

  581. and I long

  582. for these things,

  583. He changes

  584. to plurals.

  585. He says,

  586. blessed are those

  587. as they go

  588. through the valley,

  589. they make it

  590. a place.

  591. we weren't

  592. meant to journey

  593. alone.

  594. And as Pastor Greg

  595. mentioned earlier,

  596. one of our great

  597. desires as a church

  598. leadership is to

  599. encourage you.

  600. I know for me,

  601. in the last three

  602. months,

  603. my default has been

  604. me at home

  605. alone.

  606. Right?

  607. That's what we've

  608. been asked to do,

  609. and it's been a blessing

  610. to our world

  611. to not feed

  612. a pandemic.

  613. But friends,

  614. we weren't made

  615. for that.

  616. And maybe we need

  617. to figure out how

  618. to do it over phone

  619. or over Zoom,

  620. but we need to

  621. be intentional

  622. about connecting

  623. with others.

  624. I've been thankful

  625. for chances to connect

  626. with my small group

  627. over Zoom.

  628. I've been thankful

  629. for the few times

  630. I've gone on

  631. socially distanced

  632. walks with friends

  633. where we've just

  634. been able to talk

  635. face to face.

  636. I encourage you,

  637. find places

  638. and ways to do this.

  639. as much as you can,

  640. and everyone's

  641. situation is different.

  642. There is no

  643. absolute

  644. standard

  645. to meet here,

  646. but recognize

  647. that as we long

  648. for God,

  649. we are meant

  650. to do it together,

  651. and we need

  652. one another

  653. to continue

  654. on this road.

  655. So the heart

  656. of a pilgrim

  657. is one who thirsts.

  658. The heart

  659. of a pilgrim

  660. is also one

  661. who treasures.

  662. And this is what

  663. we see in verses

  664. 10 through 12.

  665. A day in your courts

  666. is better than

  667. a thousand elsewhere.

  668. I would rather

  669. be a doorkeeper

  670. in the house of God

  671. than dwell

  672. in the tents

  673. of wickedness.

  674. The psalmist says,

  675. the reason why

  676. I long for God

  677. is because God

  678. is of such

  679. great worth

  680. that the highest

  681. value that I could

  682. give to anything

  683. in life would be

  684. to be in

  685. his presence.

  686. It is a treasure.

  687. And a doorkeeper

  688. in the house

  689. is not per se

  690. in this psalm

  691. a role.

  692. It is instead

  693. a position.

  694. I'd rather be

  695. just on the outskirts

  696. of the Lord's house.

  697. I'd rather be close.

  698. I would treasure

  699. that above anything.

  700. A thousand days

  701. elsewhere

  702. couldn't satisfy

  703. but one day

  704. being that close.

  705. This is the treasure.

  706. And it's easy

  707. sometimes

  708. for us to treasure

  709. other things,

  710. isn't it?

  711. It's easy

  712. for us to treasure

  713. maybe things

  714. that are easier

  715. to control.

  716. Things that we can

  717. gather

  718. and do on our own.

  719. Things that we

  720. can escape to

  721. that for the moment

  722. will help us

  723. feel better

  724. and resolve

  725. the tension

  726. of the longing

  727. life that we live.

  728. Perhaps it's worth

  729. reflecting

  730. what have I been

  731. obsessing about

  732. in the last couple

  733. of weeks

  734. or months?

  735. Maybe it's worth

  736. thinking about

  737. where have I found

  738. anxiety overwhelming

  739. me

  740. in the last

  741. weeks?

  742. What are the things

  743. that I find myself

  744. talking about

  745. more than anything

  746. else?

  747. What do I find

  748. my mind going to

  749. over and over again?

  750. Friends,

  751. for this psalmist

  752. it was

  753. God himself

  754. and being

  755. in his presence.

  756. and I wonder

  757. if we have

  758. become

  759. distracted

  760. and the psalmist

  761. says

  762. the thing is

  763. that when we

  764. look at God

  765. when we actually

  766. pay attention

  767. to him

  768. he is glorious

  769. beyond belief

  770. and he is all

  771. that we want

  772. and need.

  773. He is a treasure.

  774. It's not a question

  775. of whether he is

  776. worth that attention.

  777. It is simply

  778. a question of whether

  779. we recognize it

  780. or not.

  781. this is what he

  782. says in verse 11

  783. for the Lord God

  784. is a sun

  785. and a shield

  786. what more

  787. could we want

  788. in life

  789. than an ever

  790. producing

  791. ball of fire

  792. that gives light

  793. and life

  794. to all things

  795. in our cosmos.

  796. Okay,

  797. so that's an exaggeration.

  798. In our solar system

  799. it gives all

  800. in our world

  801. at least

  802. the sun

  803. is the source

  804. of all the energy

  805. and all the light

  806. and God

  807. is like that

  808. in our world

  809. as the creator

  810. and sustainer

  811. of all things.

  812. God is the one

  813. who bestows on us

  814. after a long winter

  815. how do we long

  816. for the sun

  817. to come

  818. and bring its warmth?

  819. How does it lift

  820. our hearts?

  821. God does this

  822. tenfold

  823. hundredfold

  824. to our souls

  825. and to our spirits

  826. regardless

  827. of the journey

  828. that we're on

  829. and the trials

  830. that we face

  831. and he is not

  832. only that

  833. this life-giving

  834. source

  835. but he is also

  836. our shield

  837. he is our head

  838. our protector

  839. our overseer

  840. he is like a king

  841. who oversees

  842. his kingdom

  843. and as a shield

  844. protects

  845. gathers

  846. provides

  847. and loves

  848. those that he is

  849. over

  850. and not only that

  851. but he bestows

  852. favor

  853. and honor

  854. one commentator

  855. said that

  856. this might be

  857. better understood

  858. as we look ahead

  859. to what

  860. the psalmist

  861. is pointing to

  862. favor and honor

  863. sound like

  864. God may give us

  865. an extra day off

  866. a bonus check

  867. in our

  868. paycheck

  869. a special gift

  870. something like that

  871. but he said

  872. actually this might be

  873. better translated

  874. that God

  875. is giving us

  876. his grace

  877. and his glory

  878. his grace

  879. that is

  880. his undeserved

  881. acceptance

  882. of weary

  883. pilgrims

  884. like us

  885. whose faith

  886. falters

  887. whose hearts

  888. are weak

  889. he gives us

  890. that acceptance

  891. and welcome

  892. come into my

  893. house

  894. and be my

  895. people

  896. be a part

  897. of my family

  898. I will be

  899. your heavenly

  900. father

  901. this is the

  902. grace that he

  903. offers us

  904. and it is also

  905. his glory

  906. that he invites

  907. us not only

  908. into his

  909. presence

  910. but he invites

  911. us into the

  912. richness

  913. and the beauty

  914. of his kingdom

  915. and of his

  916. goodness

  917. and of all

  918. of his

  919. characters

  920. and it's not

  921. something that

  922. we simply

  923. observe

  924. but it is

  925. something that

  926. we participate

  927. in

  928. it is something

  929. that we are

  930. able to

  931. become a part

  932. of

  933. he bestows

  934. upon us

  935. his glory

  936. so that

  937. together

  938. we reflect

  939. and resound

  940. and magnify

  941. his glory

  942. and this is

  943. why God

  944. is a treasure

  945. above all

  946. and so

  947. Paul

  948. in Philippians

  949. 3

  950. says

  951. I count

  952. all things

  953. as loss

  954. for the

  955. sake of

  956. knowing

  957. Christ

  958. and being

  959. found

  960. in him

  961. not having

  962. a righteousness

  963. of my

  964. own

  965. but a

  966. right

  967. having

  968. one

  969. that

  970. comes

  971. by

  972. faith

  973. I press

  974. on towards

  975. these things

  976. because of

  977. the

  978. surpassing

  979. treasure

  980. of knowing

  981. Christ Jesus

  982. my Lord

  983. now friends

  984. it's easy

  985. at this

  986. point

  987. to read

  988. this psalm

  989. and to hear

  990. this message

  991. and to think

  992. that what I'm

  993. saying is

  994. alright

  995. it's been a

  996. hard season

  997. buck up

  998. long

  999. harder

  1000. treasure

  1001. better

  1002. keep

  1003. going

  1004. you have

  1005. to

  1006. pull up

  1007. your

  1008. bootstraps

  1009. and get

  1010. on with

  1011. it

  1012. and friends

  1013. there is a

  1014. sense of

  1015. exhortation

  1016. in this

  1017. sermon

  1018. for us

  1019. to set

  1020. our

  1021. longings

  1022. right

  1023. and for

  1024. us to

  1025. set our

  1026. treasuring

  1027. right

  1028. but the

  1029. good news

  1030. of the

  1031. gospel

  1032. is that

  1033. there's a

  1034. better

  1035. story

  1036. than us

  1037. trying

  1038. harder

  1039. to do

  1040. better

  1041. it is

  1042. that Christ

  1043. took his

  1044. own

  1045. pilgrimage

  1046. and came

  1047. he left

  1048. heaven

  1049. to come

  1050. to earth

  1051. for us

  1052. he walked

  1053. a pilgrim

  1054. road of

  1055. hardship

  1056. and suffering

  1057. of persecution

  1058. and death

  1059. for us

  1060. and he did

  1061. it with such

  1062. righteousness

  1063. he is the

  1064. righteous one

  1065. from whom

  1066. God does not

  1067. withhold any

  1068. good thing

  1069. he has done

  1070. what we cannot

  1071. do in walking

  1072. righteously

  1073. before God

  1074. and he came

  1075. and did this

  1076. for us

  1077. so that we

  1078. might have

  1079. an acceptance

  1080. with God

  1081. and a

  1082. righteousness

  1083. with him

  1084. and a

  1085. presence

  1086. and the

  1087. right to

  1088. become

  1089. his people

  1090. and to

  1091. walk into

  1092. his temple

  1093. and into

  1094. his presence

  1095. we have the

  1096. right to do

  1097. that not

  1098. because of

  1099. anything that

  1100. we have

  1101. done

  1102. not because

  1103. we succeed

  1104. in being the

  1105. best pilgrims

  1106. today or

  1107. next week

  1108. but because

  1109. in our

  1110. faltering

  1111. faith

  1112. and in

  1113. our weak

  1114. hearts

  1115. and when

  1116. we lose

  1117. sight of

  1118. the treasure

  1119. Christ has

  1120. taken a

  1121. hold of

  1122. us

  1123. and when

  1124. we have

  1125. been joined

  1126. to him

  1127. by faith

  1128. he says

  1129. you are

  1130. now mine

  1131. and I

  1132. will take

  1133. you

  1134. and the

  1135. work that

  1136. he has

  1137. begun in

  1138. us

  1139. he promises

  1140. he will

  1141. bring it

  1142. to completion

  1143. he has

  1144. come to

  1145. do this

  1146. for us

  1147. to win

  1148. himself

  1149. for a

  1150. people

  1151. a people

  1152. who are

  1153. called

  1154. pilgrims

  1155. who are

  1156. going home

  1157. a home

  1158. that God

  1159. has achieved

  1160. for us

  1161. in Christ

  1162. a home

  1163. in eternity

  1164. that we are

  1165. certain of

  1166. going to

  1167. and a

  1168. presence of

  1169. his Holy

  1170. Spirit

  1171. along the

  1172. way

  1173. friends

  1174. this is

  1175. how the

  1176. pilgrim

  1177. walks

  1178. with a

  1179. longing

  1180. heart

  1181. for

  1182. the

  1183. fullness

  1184. of what

  1185. Christ

  1186. has

  1187. already

  1188. done

  1189. for a

  1190. treasuring

  1191. of the

  1192. things that

  1193. Christ has

  1194. already done

  1195. for us

  1196. when we

  1197. do this

  1198. then

  1199. we can

  1200. pursue

  1201. and walk

  1202. the road

  1203. with hope

  1204. and not

  1205. give up

  1206. may this

  1207. be true

  1208. for us

  1209. let's

  1210. pray

  1211. Lord we

  1212. thank you

  1213. for this

  1214. word

  1215. Lord we

  1216. you

  1217. by your

  1218. spirit

  1219. Lord renew

  1220. our hearts

  1221. today

  1222. Lord we

  1223. pray that

  1224. you would

  1225. Lord implant

  1226. in us

  1227. and revive

  1228. in us

  1229. our longing

  1230. for you

  1231. oh Lord

  1232. may you

  1233. help us

  1234. to see

  1235. how great

  1236. a treasure

  1237. we have

  1238. in you

  1239. and will

  1240. you guide

  1241. us oh

  1242. Lord

  1243. on this

  1244. pilgrimage

  1245. may it be

  1246. your strength

  1247. that is our

  1248. strength

  1249. we pray

  1250. these things

  1251. in Jesus

  1252. name

  1253. amen

  1254. say

  1255. what

  1256. be

  1257. what

  1258. did

  1259. this

  1260. act

  1261. on him

  1262. and have

  1263. a

  1264. honor

  1265. as

  1266. hi

  1267. and have

  1268. this

  1269. other

  1270. same

  1271. as

  1272. as

  1273. I

  1274. saw

  1275. them

  1276. and have

  1277. as

  1278. oh

  1279. to

  1280. right
