  1. Please stand for the reading of the word.

  2. We're in The Sermon on the Mount.

  3. The Beatitudes verse number, 9 will be our primary focus today.

  4. But here the reading seeing the crowds, Jesus went up on the

  5. mountain and when he sat down his disciples came to him and he

  6. opened his mouth and taught them saying blessed are the poor in

  7. spirit for theirs is the Kingdom of Heaven.

  8. Blessed, are those who mourn for they shall be comforted?

  9. Blessed are the meek for they shall inherit the earth.

  10. Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for

  11. they shall be satisfied. Blessed are the merciful for

  12. they shall receive Mercy? Blessed are the pure in heart

  13. for they shall see. God blessed are the peacemakers

  14. for they shall be called sons of God.

  15. Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness

  16. sake? For theirs is the Kingdom of

  17. Heaven. Blessed?

  18. Are you when others, revile you, and persecute you and utter all

  19. kinds of evil against you falsely on my account rejoice

  20. and be glad for your reward is great in heaven for.

  21. So they persecuted the prophets. Outfits who were before you.

  22. The word of the Lord may be seated.

  23. Today, we look at verse 9. Beatitude blessed, felicitous.

  24. Happy Well, pleased are those who are the peacemakers.

  25. For they shall be called the sons of God to keywords In this

  26. passage. Peacemakers.

  27. And sons of God. The peacemakers are those who

  28. follow pursue and establish peace.

  29. This is the sole use of this word.

  30. Anywhere in scripture is not used anywhere.

  31. In the Old Testament nor anywhere else in the New

  32. Testament. This word Peacemaker.

  33. In order to understand what it means to be the sons of God, we

  34. have to remember a few things and then we can go from there.

  35. Scripture says that those who are peacemakers, whatever that

  36. is, are the ones that will be called the sons of God. in other

  37. words, they will be like their father You'll be able to see the

  38. genetic code in them. They will be doing those things

  39. that their father does. Now the Bible gives us several

  40. senses in which we are the sons of God.

  41. In the first instance we are sons of God by creation.

  42. Genesis 2. And that's the ants.

  43. All human beings are the children of God.

  44. By creation, God took Adam from the Dust.

  45. Molded him. He was thoroughly physical

  46. thoroughly of the earth earthy thoroughly of human.

  47. Stock and standard and stuff dust Thou Art and dust, Thou

  48. shalt return. But God breathed into his

  49. nostrils, the breath of life and he became a living soul.

  50. And in doing this God said, let us make man in our image and

  51. after our likeness and he did that, he created them male and

  52. female created. He them So there's a sense in

  53. which we are as Paul says, and as even most Pagan religions

  54. will tell us, we are in that. Sits, The Offspring of God, the

  55. sons of God, we are God's Sons by creation and I think the

  56. designation here where it says they shall be called or they

  57. shall be accounted, they shall be reckoned, the sons of God,

  58. isn't there something else to it beyond that?

  59. We are children of God are sons of God by New Creation.

  60. John 3 and First John 3. You must be born again.

  61. We are born of the spirit of God.

  62. Just like, God took that lump of clay and breathed into his

  63. nostrils, the Blessed Breath of Life and Adam became a living

  64. Soul physically. So spiritually, God takes the

  65. dead lump. And breathed into our nostrils.

  66. By his holy spirit, in a marvelous work of regeneration

  67. in a marvelous work of recreation, and now we are the

  68. regenerate sons of God. And as we mentioned, that's who

  69. this passage is directed to by and large are the people who are

  70. the born-again regenerated. Sons of God.

  71. But then there's another sense and that's the sense of

  72. adoption. We are adopted, this is the

  73. legal forensic type of understanding of our sonship, it

  74. has to do with the air to the Heritage.

  75. The air that it belongs in. Paul flesh.

  76. Has this out for us in Romans principally in chapter 8 and

  77. other places. So God is our father.

  78. We are his sons, but in order to be Designated that special piece

  79. maker, designation. We've got to take a look at what

  80. we need to be doing. and basically, we take a look at our

  81. father What did our father do? Our father is a peacemaker.

  82. John brought us says there is no more Godlike work on Earth than

  83. being a peacemaker. That's what God had to do from

  84. the very start. After Mankind's sins, God had to

  85. start a work of being a peacemaker.

  86. There was an Alien Nation. There was a separation.

  87. There was a parting, there was an enmity in a hostility that

  88. existed between God, the father and Humanity.

  89. All have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God.

  90. There's none righteous. No, not one.

  91. There's those that are far from God, and he must bring them back

  92. to himself. So, the Lord began a work, that

  93. is the work of reconciliation. Peacemaking.

  94. Bringing the two that are at enmity and hostile.

  95. Bringing them into one and atonement. 70 over 70 times in

  96. the Old Testament, there is a Word used that refers to one of

  97. the sacrifices, it was called the selim.

  98. Shalom peace. It was the Salim, the selenium

  99. was the peace offering and it was an offering that was quite

  100. expensive but quite important and we find it mentioned and God

  101. tells him how to do it in the book of Exodus.

  102. Leviticus and he goes all through the Old Testament,

  103. you'll find from time to time that peace offerings are made.

  104. And a peace offering has kind of in the middle of it.

  105. You can kind of always remember this.

  106. It means appeasement It is to placate the Wrath of the

  107. parties. It is to appease the parties, it

  108. is to bring them together. There's a Reconciliation God

  109. reconciled to man in the fact that he reconciles and

  110. irreconcilable man. It's man that must change it.

  111. Is we who have fallen short. We are the ones that must be

  112. made. New God is God, he changes not.

  113. He has no reason in this relationship to be reconciled in

  114. and of himself. He reconciles us and the

  115. imperative from scripture is be ye reconciled to God and that's

  116. what the peace offering was all about.

  117. The peace offering was. Reconciliation.

  118. It was an act of worship. It was an act of appeasement and

  119. it involved as a said he was expensive involved.

  120. Two Lambs without spot without blemish, firstlings of the flock

  121. etc. Etc.

  122. You know the standard for the sacrifice of the Old Testament,

  123. it had to be perfect. Interesting, it's two Lambs.

  124. Passover was one lamb, it's two Lambs.

  125. There's some real heavy duty work to be done in

  126. reconciliation. and man has to Be there.

  127. Ready and open for God to do it and the bended knee and the

  128. bowed head and the slaughter. The animal was man's way to come

  129. to God and see if there might not be a Reconciliation.

  130. God commanded him to be approached himself to be

  131. approached, that way, a bullock that's quite a sacrifice that an

  132. agrarian economy. You go out here to any Angus,

  133. breeder in Texas, and ask them to surrender their best.

  134. All they miss may not want to do that but that's what God calls

  135. for. A bullock or even a ram, which

  136. is the chief of all of those sheep and goat species.

  137. And the reason it's expensive offering his it's precious,

  138. there's absolutely nothing more important than a Reconciliation

  139. apiece to be made between God and his people.

  140. And any mediator work between God and man has been fulfilled.

  141. We see a massive amount of Prophecy and shadows and types

  142. and teaching and pictures. images of all of this in the Old

  143. Testament, but We see this work of piece of peacemaking.

  144. Is really the Sovereign work of the Lord, and he promises it in

  145. who he will send. Let me read a passage of

  146. scripture that is most familiar to you.

  147. In fact, I hesitate to even read it so familiar, but you know

  148. doesn't hurt its Isaiah chapter 9, listen to the language of

    Isaiah 9 chapter mention

  149. what we celebrate usually around the Advent season.

  150. For unto us. A child is born.

  151. There's The Human Side of Jesus. A little child is born unto us.

  152. A son is given the exalted Son of God.

  153. There's the deity of Christ Right There For unto us.

  154. A child is born unto us a son is given and the government shall

  155. be upon his shoulder. And his name Shall be Called

  156. wonderful, counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting father Prince

  157. of Peace. That's a title.

  158. That's David's son. David's great, son.

  159. Or Solomon. That's what his name means.

  160. Shalom, Solomon. It's a man of Peace.

  161. David was a man of war, but because he was a man of Peace,

  162. God, assign Solomon, the sacred Duty and privilege of building

  163. the Temple. The place where God would meet

  164. with man, where they would be reconciliation, where they would

  165. be peace, where they would be meeting when all, the enmity

  166. would be put aside, and they would become his very people. so

  167. David's son is the candidate to do this work of reconciliation,

  168. peacemaking and Christ is the one that fulfill that and so

  169. Christ is prophesied here to be called The Prince of Peace of

  170. the increase of his government and of Peace.

  171. There will be no end. the whole point of the government, The

  172. Authority, the rule, the reign of Christ in his kingdom, is to

  173. establish that peace and to keep it A peacemaker and a

  174. peacekeeper. And that's who Christ is to us.

  175. Another Prophet prophesying around about the same time in

  176. Israel. That had a passage similar to,

  177. this is another passage. We consider often at Advent

  178. season. But you o Bethlehem are too

  179. little to be among the clans of Judah from you shall come forth

  180. from me one, who is to be a ruler in Israel?

  181. Whose origin is from old from ancient days.

  182. There we have the eternality of Christ from old.

  183. As coeternal with the father, he was with the father in the

  184. beginning, but we also see his Incarnation, his coming to Earth

  185. is coming to live in a tent of Flesh.

  186. One more time, God is going to take a lump and Infuse, his

  187. breath, his spirited to it as he did in Adam in the Incarnation,

  188. that's what happened. God, takes human flesh and

  189. hovers over by the Holy Spirit and what's conceived in Mary is

  190. the very Spirit, the very breath, the very word of God.

  191. And so that's the prophecy. Therefore, he shall, give them

  192. up until The time when she, who has to labor, has given birth.

  193. Then the rest of the brothers shall return to the people of

  194. Israel. Here is the birth of Christ.

  195. The Incarnation, he shall stand and Shepherd his flock in the

  196. strength of the Lord. Don't miss that, he shall stand.

  197. On a stasis stand-up, be raised. He shall stand and Shepherd.

  198. His flock in the strength of the Lord.

  199. In the Majesty of the name of the Lord.

  200. God, they shall dwell secure for now.

  201. He shall be great. To the ends of the Earth and he

  202. shall be their peace. That's precisely what Paul says

  203. in Ephesians 2. Says Christ is our peace, he's

  204. our peace offering. He's the one that makes piece of

  205. the coming of the Prince of Peace.

  206. Is the one that comes to make this breach between God and

  207. Humanity. Clothes.

  208. Disappear healed. And that's what God has done for

  209. us. God is the ultimate primary

  210. Eternal, peace maker. If you do not know the Peace of

  211. the Lord this morning, it is time for you to know that.

  212. The Bible says the wicked are like the troubled sea.

  213. They cannot rest. There's no peace.

  214. Saith my God to the wicked. God wants you.

  215. He calls you. He says to you seek me while I

  216. may be found call upon me while I am near.

  217. He's broken down the middle wall of partition.

  218. He has made peace for us, and he calls upon us to do just that

  219. and having come by faith. To the Savior who was a blood

  220. shedding peace offering to God on our behalf.

  221. To thus remove that which separates us.

  222. The Lord's hand is not shortened that he cannot save, neither his

  223. ear heavy that he cannot hear your sins have separated between

  224. you and your God. And your iniquity has hid his

  225. face from you, and he will not hear if you do not have that

  226. piece this morning. It's because of your sin.

  227. You must repent. Abandon your sin.

  228. Flee to him and call upon him. And as we've tried to indicate

  229. He will give that peace. That will keep him in.

  230. Perfect peace. Whose mind is stayed on thee

  231. because he trust in thee. That's what we're asking you to

  232. do this morning is to is to trust the Lord.

  233. Let me make one practical note. and, If I have a moment, I'll

  234. read one more scripture. I mentioned that brought us had

  235. said that peacemaking there's no more Godlike work on Earth than

  236. being a peacemaker. What is the role of a peacemaker

  237. in our society as we operate and live our lives and seek to be

  238. peacemakers as God has called us to be making peace involve

  239. sacrifice. It's a removal of Wrath hatred

  240. and strife between parties. You think you want to get in the

  241. middle of a fight? You think you want to get

  242. involved? Peacemaking requires that but

  243. when he does, it will require require you to endure all the

  244. way I got this all out of Calvin.

  245. It's just you just listed it out there, you can just read it in

  246. door and dignity. To here and tolerate reproach.

  247. in fact, I like the way he said it, he says you will hear

  248. Grievous complaints from both sides, In a peacemaking

  249. Enterprise, you will be hated. you will be mistreated by both

  250. sides, both parties that we have a absolute Duty to advocate for

  251. truth, justice and mercy in our efforts, as peacemakers brought

  252. us in his remarks going to say that you must be impartial.

  253. Loving. Tactful.

  254. Selfless. And exercise an enormous amount

  255. of self-control. How will we do?

  256. Well, the good news is God calls us to do everything.

  257. They were supposed to do. The fact is we usually don't do

  258. it too well. Full of imperfections and

  259. failing and even mixed and mingled with motives and sins.

  260. So we have the assurance that God is going to take everything

  261. and make it just right. And as Robbie praying, this

  262. prayer just a few minutes ago. It's not as it used to be.

  263. And it's not as it will be. Let me read.

  264. Just one very, very interesting, passage out of the the Old

  265. Testament to conclude and there are many passages in the Old

  266. Testament that talk about peace and the Shalom, that will be

  267. upon the Earth with the animals, the wild animals, and the fierce

  268. animals, lying down with the domestic animals.

  269. And there will be nobody hurting and destroying and all of God's

  270. mountain and over and over and over in the books.

  271. But here's an interesting. I didn't like the way the Lord

  272. phrases it. Let me close with this.

  273. Therefore this is it Ezekiel by the way Ezekiel 34 therefore

  274. says the Lord. Behold, I myself will judge

  275. between the fat sheep and the lean sheep.

  276. I had a wish. I had time to talk about that.

  277. Would Ron preach only preached on fat sheep.

  278. Because you push with side and shoulder, and thrust it all with

  279. the week with your horns, till you have scattered them abroad.

  280. This is the hustle, and the tussle in the friction and all

  281. of the hostility that is between the Sheep.

  282. Peacemaking is to be done within the house of the Lord true.

  283. And the Lord says, one of these days I'm going to settle all

  284. these disputes. I'm going to recognize this, I'm

  285. going to bring to judgment and I'm going to judge between this

  286. sheep and that sheep. He says I will rescue my flock.

  287. They shall no longer be a pray. I will judge between sheep and

  288. sheep. I will set up over them.

  289. One Shepherd, Christ my servant David and he shall feed them, he

  290. shall feed them and he shall be their Shepherd.

  291. And I the Lord will be their God.

  292. And my servant, David will be Prince among them.

  293. I am the Lord I have spoke now. Listen to this.

  294. I will make with them, a covenant of peace and banished,

  295. wild beast from the land. So that they may dwell securely

  296. in the wilderness and sleep in the woods.

  297. And I will make them in the places all around my heel of

  298. blessing and I will send down the showers in their season.

  299. They shall be Showers of blessing and the Trees of the

  300. field shall yield their fruit in the Earth, shall yield its

  301. increase, and they shall be secure in their land.

  302. And they shall know that I am the Lord, when I break the bars

  303. of their yoke, when I deliver them from the hand of those who

  304. have enslaved them, they shall no more be prey.

  305. And the Nations nor shall the beasts of the land devoured

  306. them. They shall dwell securely.

  307. And The way shalom means well-being Prosperity safety

  308. dwelling in in peace. That's what the word shalom

  309. means. I will provide for them renowned

  310. plantations so that they may know more be consumed with

  311. hunger in the land and no longer suffer the reproach of the

  312. Nations. And they shall know that I am

  313. the Lord, their god with them. Then they, the house of Israel

  314. Are My People. Declares the Lord God and see if

  315. you hear the voice of the Savior saying, And you are my sheep.

  316. Human sheep of my pasture. And I am your God, declares the

  317. Lord God My sheep hear my voice, I know them and they follow me.
