  1. Good morning everyone. Let's bow our heads. I'm going to pray.

  2. Heavenly Father, we pray that as we come to your word now and as I speak from it,

  3. that you would speak to us by your spirit, that you would grow us in Christ to your glory.

  4. And we pray this in Jesus' name. Amen.

  5. Our Archbishop Peter Jensen spoke to us, or spoke with a few of us the other day at clergy conference,

  6. at Northern Region Clogy Conference, and he was talking about conversion to Christ

  7. and especially how it's something that begins with God himself.

  8. It's not just something we do for ourself.

  9. It's the regenerating work of the spirit of God in us that brings us to Christ.

  10. And then he gave us a really sober warning, born of experience.

  11. He said that at every level of church life, people engage in unregenerate behaviour,

  12. that is destructive to our life as the people of God,

  13. but it is also damaging to our witness to Christ in the world.

  14. And global mission, how people outside see us,

  15. is undermined by unregenerate behaviour amongst us.

  16. And he said that churches and church organisations and Christian schools

  17. are always tempted to put people into leadership because of need.

  18. We need to fill a position.

  19. We need somebody for the job, so we put somebody in as treasurer

  20. because they work with finance.

  21. We put somebody into the parish council

  22. because they're a leader in the business world.

  23. And when we put qualifications and experience ahead of Christian faith,

  24. we're actually ahead for disaster.

  25. And he said an example would be that church schools

  26. that have lowered their expectations of faith,

  27. or Christian faith in their teachers,

  28. and have pursued academic excellence,

  29. which is always the pressure from parents,

  30. now turn out well-educated unbelievers.

  31. Generalisation.

  32. I found it to be true in a place or two too.

  33. His words are actually born of bitter experience.

  34. He demanded the licence of one of my friends in ministry

  35. who was found to have had a number of sexual affairs

  36. with people in parishes that he worked in.

  37. His early days as archbishop were sometimes miserable.

  38. Numbers of times he took strong action

  39. to remove people from ministry.

  40. They were people whose behaviour had caused the name of Christ

  41. to be dragged through the mud,

  42. and some of those people still hate him.

  43. My first year in one of my parishes saw similar things.

  44. I had a warden who thought I was just...

  45. She was female, but she just thought

  46. I was the nicest man in the world for ten months.

  47. And then I think I lovingly spoke to her.

  48. She doesn't think so, but I lovingly spoke to her

  49. about a relationship that seemed to be developing

  50. with one of our parish counsellors.

  51. And it later intruded into their marriage,

  52. her marriage.

  53. It later became adultery.

  54. I lost a warden.

  55. I lost a parish counsellor.

  56. And I lost a synod rep because of their immorality.

  57. Three different people.

  58. I've watched another church,

  59. which was a huge supporter of missions,

  60. known all over the place for their good works

  61. and watched them self-destruct

  62. because of immorality amongst the people of God.

  63. And that church can no longer afford to support a minister.

  64. So we and the world out there often focuses on things

  65. like the forgiveness and the mercy

  66. that is to be found in Christ, which is real.

  67. But we must not underestimate the devastating effects

  68. of sin amongst God's people

  69. and God's anger with it.

  70. And there is a need for strong leadership to deal with it.

  71. So the Bible passage before us this morning,

  72. it's the Isaiah passage.

  73. It's Isaiah chapter 56, beginning at verse 9

    Isaiah 56 chapter mention

  74. and following through at the end of chapter 57.

  75. It'd be great if you had your Bibles open.

  76. But it is a shattering description of the people of God.

  77. And Isaiah brings the word of God to the people of God

  78. and sin and wickedness seem to reign

  79. and it starts from the top down.

  80. It begins with the leaders.

  81. And so you read,

  82. Come all you beasts of the field,

  83. come and devour all you beasts of the forest.

  84. Israel's watchmen are blind,

  85. they all lack knowledge,

  86. they are mute dogs,

  87. they cannot bark,

  88. they lie around and dream,

  89. they love to sleep.

  90. They are dogs with mighty appetites,

  91. they never have enough,

  92. they are shepherds who lack understanding,

  93. they all turn to their own way,

  94. each seeks his own gain.

  95. Come, each one cries,

  96. let me get wine,

  97. let us drink our fill of beer,

  98. and tomorrow will be like today,

  99. or even better.

  100. And so what he's doing,

  101. he's issuing an invitation to the beasts of the field,

  102. the beasts of the forest,

  103. to come in amongst the people of God,

  104. rip, tear, devour.

  105. They're invited to bring destruction as God's judgment.

  106. And he castigates the failure of leadership.

  107. The watchmen and the shepherds,

  108. who are nearly always prophets in the Old Testament,

  109. have failed in their duty of care.

  110. They're responsible to live under God's law

  111. and call the people of God to as well.

  112. And he describes them as blind,

  113. as ignorant,

  114. as mute.

  115. All the faculties that they need

  116. to be able to do their work

  117. have been disabled by sin.

  118. And so they can't see,

  119. so they're in no position to look out for trouble.

  120. They're ignorant,

  121. they lack knowledge,

  122. they can't even begin to teach

  123. what they should be teaching,

  124. they can no longer even discern

  125. right from wrong,

  126. and seemingly don't care.

  127. And they're mute.

  128. They don't even use their voices

  129. to warn people.

  130. And so rather than looking after

  131. the interests of the people of God,

  132. they're sitting in the background,

  133. drinking,

  134. in the backyard,

  135. drinking their beer

  136. and having a great old time on the wine

  137. and looking after themselves.

  138. And he says,

  139. they've got insatiable appetites

  140. for seeking their own gain.

  141. They are gluttons and drunkards

  142. focused on what they can get out of life.

  143. And they live oblivious to the work

  144. that God has appointed them to do.

  145. And they are like the rich fool

  146. in Luke chapter 12.

    Luke 12 chapter mention

  147. They have settled back.

  148. They are taking life easy.

  149. They do not live with any fear of God.

  150. They have no concern at all

  151. that one night

  152. he will demand their life.

  153. And so Isaiah begins with the leadership

  154. because they have failed to teach

  155. and obey the word of God

  156. and as a result,

  157. God's people have descended

  158. into great wickedness.

  159. I can't read this

  160. without reflecting on my own leadership

  161. amongst God's people

  162. and I would ask you

  163. that if you have leadership

  164. in a small group

  165. or other ministry

  166. in this church

  167. or in other places

  168. to reflect on it for yourself.

  169. Do we have courage

  170. to confront sin in our midst?

  171. Do we excuse brothers and sisters

  172. for inappropriate behaviour

  173. or in their speech

  174. and say,

  175. well, they've always been like that?

  176. Or do I care more

  177. about how people see me

  178. and the importance of my role?

  179. Do I live the acknowledgement of others?

  180. Do I live on the privileges

  181. and esteem that leadership brings

  182. without taking the responsibilities

  183. that it involves?

  184. See, watchmen and shepherds

  185. are called

  186. by the Lord Jesus

  187. to sacrificial service.

  188. We are servants of Christ.

  189. We are not employees

  190. of the people of God.

  191. We are called

  192. to have humble hearts

  193. which are submissive to Christ

  194. and which seek his glory.

  195. And Isaiah is caustic

  196. in his critique

  197. of the wickedness

  198. of the leaders.

  199. But then he moves on

  200. to describe the wickedness

  201. which reigns

  202. amongst the people of God.

  203. So chapter 57, verse 3.

  204. But you, come here,

  205. you sons of a sorceress,

  206. you offspring of adulterers

  207. and prostitutes,

  208. whom are you mocking?

  209. At whom do you sneer

  210. and stick out your tongue?

  211. Are you not a brood of rebels,

  212. the offspring of liars?

  213. You burn with lust

  214. under the oaks

  215. and under every spreading tree.

  216. You sacrifice your children

  217. in the ravines

  218. and under the overhanging crags.

  219. The idols among the smooth stones

  220. of the ravines

  221. are your portion.

  222. They, they are your lot.

  223. Yes, to them

  224. you have poured out

  225. drink offerings

  226. and offered grain offerings

  227. in the light of these things.

  228. Should I relent?

  229. You have made your bed

  230. on a high and lofty hill

  231. and there you want

  232. to offer up your sacrifices.

  233. Behind your doors

  234. and your doorposts

  235. you have put your pagan symbols.

  236. Forsaking me,

  237. you uncovered your bed.

  238. You climbed into it

  239. and opened it wide.

  240. You made a pact

  241. with those whose beds

  242. you love

  243. and you looked

  244. on their nakedness.

  245. You went to Moloch

  246. with olive oil

  247. and you increased

  248. your perfumes.

  249. You sent your ambassadors

  250. far away.

  251. You descended

  252. to the grave itself.

  253. Not a pretty picture.

  254. God's people

  255. described as sons

  256. of a sorceress

  257. you offspring

  258. of adulterers

  259. and prostitutes

  260. could have used

  261. a more colloquial way

  262. of speaking about them.

  263. But their mocking,

  264. verse 4,

  265. is a mocking of God

  266. sticking their tongue

  267. out at him.

  268. What are you going

  269. to do about it?

  270. And they have done it.

  271. We've seen the last few weeks.

  272. They have done it

  273. by pursuing other gods.

  274. They've taken on

  275. the ways of worship

  276. of the surrounding nations.

  277. They've made political treaties.

  278. They've forgotten

  279. the Lord God.

  280. One of the other gods

  281. is named Moloch

  282. in verse 9.

  283. Another is hinted at

  284. by the practices.

  285. So in verse 7,

  286. beds on high hills

  287. where you offered sacrifices.

  288. Or verse 5,

  289. lust under the oaks

  290. and spreading trees.

  291. So in that society,

  292. Baal and his female

  293. counterpart Ashtaroth

  294. were widely worshipped

  295. in this farming society.

  296. And so an annual crop

  297. was their livelihood.

  298. It was their life.

  299. It was their well-being.

  300. It was their wealth.

  301. It was their salvation.

  302. Everything was dependent

  303. upon the success

  304. of the crop.

  305. And so part of the town festival

  306. might involve

  307. the priest of Baal

  308. having sex in public

  309. with a young woman

  310. as part of the worship

  311. aimed at securing

  312. Baal's favour

  313. and blessing.

  314. And you go through

  315. this passage

  316. and you see

  317. there's lots of sexual

  318. overtones

  319. into this worship

  320. in verses 8 and 9.

  321. The pagan symbols

  322. are very likely

  323. of male sex organs

  324. associated with fertility.

  325. Lots of those

  326. have been found

  327. by archaeologists.

  328. And Isaiah is quite graphic

  329. speaking about

  330. the uncovered bed

  331. and the pact

  332. that you have made

  333. with others

  334. that you love.

  335. You look on their nakedness.

  336. It's a metaphorical picture.

  337. The people of God

  338. have been prostituting

  339. themselves to other gods.

  340. But it's also

  341. an actual picture

  342. because the worship

  343. of these gods

  344. opens them up

  345. to rampant immorality.

  346. Moloch worship

  347. is horrifically wicked.

  348. Verse 5

  349. You sacrifice

  350. your children

  351. in the ravines

  352. and under

  353. the overhanging

  354. crags.

  355. You slip out of town

  356. with the unwanted child

  357. and you murder them

  358. in a quiet place

  359. where people

  360. cannot see

  361. down in the riverbed

  362. under a crag

  363. near the smooth stones

  364. as you seek

  365. well-being

  366. and protection

  367. from Moloch

  368. for yourself.

  369. Sort of religion

  370. and ways of worship

  371. seem a long way

  372. removed from reality

  373. for most of us.

  374. Increasingly

  375. not true

  376. because

  377. many people

  378. in our church family

  379. now come from

  380. cultures very different

  381. from a western one.

  382. And Men's Breakfast

  383. last Saturday

  384. T.S. Lim

  385. spoke about

  386. or showed us

  387. pictures of his family's

  388. clan house

  389. in Malaysia

  390. and explained

  391. that it was the place

  392. where they had

  393. their family idols

  394. and where the family

  395. would go to worship

  396. the ancestors.

  397. He said the Lim family

  398. in Malaysia

  399. is a bit like

  400. the Jones family

  401. in Australia

  402. a really common name

  403. everybody goes there.

  404. We don't have one

  405. not in that sort of way

  406. we don't build idols

  407. and we don't build temples

  408. to stuff them in

  409. and worship them at.

  410. We've lived

  411. many of us

  412. have lived in the west

  413. we have a so-called

  414. scientific understanding

  415. of the world

  416. based on cause and effect

  417. we tend

  418. towards atheism

  419. and many

  420. believe in a world

  421. which doesn't need

  422. any sort of God.

  423. These practices

  424. are below us

  425. and we become God.

  426. The world

  427. revolves around us

  428. and everything

  429. is to our pleasure

  430. we are at the centre

  431. of the world

  432. and we create

  433. our own security

  434. and so we work hard

  435. to secure things

  436. like our wealth

  437. and our future.

  438. Education's

  439. of very high value

  440. because it's a mechanism

  441. for climbing above

  442. our parents'

  443. situation in life.

  444. So grandparents

  445. and parents

  446. invest a lot

  447. in their children

  448. because we want them

  449. to rise above us.

  450. It's a way

  451. of putting ourselves

  452. ahead of other people

  453. and over other people.

  454. One of our older people

  455. said to us

  456. at a small group

  457. the other night

  458. that they notice

  459. amongst their peers

  460. older people

  461. that you see

  462. this sort of control

  463. even to the end

  464. of their lives

  465. that people in nursing

  466. homes and aged care

  467. some of them

  468. are very concerned

  469. about how their life

  470. will end

  471. and they want to have

  472. control over

  473. how their life

  474. will end.

  475. We wouldn't be

  476. so crass

  477. would we

  478. as to

  479. have rampant

  480. immorality

  481. in public places

  482. and yet

  483. I turn on

  484. my television

  485. and I cannot

  486. turn the channel

  487. without people

  488. reenacting sex

  489. of all kinds

  490. in front of me

  491. and I am

  492. drawn by it

  493. and so it does

  494. it occurs

  495. in public

  496. everywhere

  497. and Moloch

  498. is not far

  499. from us either

  500. we go

  501. to a quiet

  502. place

  503. to destroy

  504. unwanted

  505. children

  506. I went

  507. to the website

  508. of one of our

  509. local hospitals

  510. recently

  511. looking for a

  512. phone number

  513. to ring one

  514. of our elderly

  515. patients

  516. patients

  517. and I was

  518. confronted

  519. on that

  520. website

  521. by the

  522. links

  523. to

  524. the

  525. abortion

  526. ad

  527. to the

  528. abortion

  529. website

  530. biggest

  531. business

  532. in Sydney

  533. amongst them

  534. it was

  535. boasting

  536. and I

  537. went there

  538. and that

  539. website

  540. told me

  541. that they

  542. treat

  543. women

  544. from 13

  545. to 50

  546. and that

  547. the average

  548. age of

  549. patients

  550. is not a

  551. teenager

  552. but it's

  553. 28

  554. and they

  555. massage

  556. their language

  557. they're honest

  558. they're forthright

  559. they say

  560. we carry out

  561. abortions

  562. terminations

  563. but they

  564. don't

  565. abort

  566. babies

  567. in their

  568. language

  569. they just

  570. remove

  571. unwanted

  572. tissue

  573. and evacuate

  574. it from

  575. a woman's

  576. body

  577. that's the

  578. language

  579. that's used

  580. not designed

  581. to be a

  582. guilt trip

  583. I know

  584. in speaking

  585. to any

  586. of our

  587. congregations

  588. that numbers

  589. of us

  590. may have

  591. been impacted

  592. in some

  593. way by

  594. abortion

  595. and if

  596. that is

  597. you

  598. then a

  599. different

  600. kind of

  601. conversation

  602. needs to

  603. be had

  604. but the

  605. point that

  606. I'm making

  607. is

  608. that we

  609. can look

  610. back on

  611. these so

  612. called

  613. unsophisticated

  614. societies

  615. 2700 years

  616. ago

  617. and not

  618. identify

  619. with the

  620. wickedness

  621. of their

  622. idolatry

  623. their worship

  624. led them

  625. to rampant

  626. immorality

  627. and great

  628. wickedness

  629. in the

  630. killing

  631. of their

  632. children

  633. but we

  634. have the

  635. outcomes

  636. of idol

  637. worship

  638. all around

  639. us

  640. and the

  641. question

  642. becomes

  643. what is

  644. it that

  645. we worship

  646. that leads

  647. us to be

  648. a society

  649. where

  650. immorality

  651. is rampant

  652. and where

  653. thousands and

  654. thousands of

  655. children's lives

  656. are ended

  657. every year

  658. and it's

  659. not just

  660. out there

  661. it's in

  662. here as

  663. well

  664. and so

  665. Isaiah

  666. paints a

  667. picture of

  668. great

  669. darkness

  670. and evil

  671. which has

  672. come over

  673. the people

  674. of God

  675. it seems

  676. like evil

  677. reigns

  678. the wicked

  679. are thriving

  680. and godly

  681. people go

  682. to the

  683. grave

  684. and I

  685. think that's

  686. what verses

  687. 1 and 2

  688. are about

  689. the righteous

  690. perish and

  691. no one

  692. ponders it

  693. in his

  694. heart

  695. devout men

  696. are taken

  697. away and

  698. no one

  699. understands

  700. that the

  701. righteous are

  702. taken away

  703. to be spared

  704. from evil

  705. those who

  706. walk uprightly

  707. enter into

  708. peace

  709. they find

  710. rest as

  711. they lie

  712. in death

  713. so godly

  714. people die

  715. and no one

  716. cares

  717. and yet

  718. it says

  719. here

  720. God

  721. takes

  722. his

  723. own

  724. people

  725. out

  726. righteous

  727. people

  728. don't have

  729. a very

  730. high

  731. profile

  732. in this

  733. sort of

  734. society

  735. they're

  736. not

  737. movers

  738. and shakers

  739. they go

  740. to their

  741. graves

  742. unnoticed

  743. and without

  744. a thought

  745. but Isaiah

  746. says

  747. they're taken

  748. away to be

  749. spared from

  750. evil

  751. in death

  752. they find

  753. peace

  754. and rest

  755. it's like

  756. the hope

  757. of a

  758. New

  759. Testament

  760. believer

  761. expressed

  762. in the

  763. Old

  764. Testament

  765. so you

  766. wouldn't

  767. a Christian

  768. person

  769. should not

  770. dare to

  771. say to

  772. somebody

  773. who didn't

  774. trust in

  775. Christ

  776. that

  777. death

  778. is

  779. peace

  780. the

  781. Bible

  782. makes it

  783. very clear

  784. that death

  785. comes after

  786. judgment

  787. or judgment

  788. comes after

  789. death

  790. and in

  791. 1 Thessalonians

    1 Thessalonians 4 chapter mention

  792. chapter 4

  793. Paul's answering

  794. the question

  795. what happens

  796. to believers

  797. who die

  798. before Christ

  799. returns

  800. and he

  801. answers them

  802. with deep

  803. reassurance

  804. brothers

  805. we do not

  806. want you to

  807. be ignorant

  808. about those

  809. who fall

  810. asleep

  811. or to

  812. grieve like

  813. the rest

  814. of men

  815. who have

  816. no hope

  817. we believe

  818. that Jesus

  819. died and

  820. rose again

  821. and so we

  822. believe that

  823. God will

  824. bring with

  825. Jesus

  826. those who

  827. have fallen

  828. asleep in

  829. him

  830. the same

  831. reassurance

  832. in the

  833. New Testament

  834. is here in

  835. Isaiah 700

  836. years before

  837. Christ

  838. for the

  839. for the

  840. person safe

  841. in Christ

  842. death is

  843. not the

  844. end

  845. it's regarded

  846. as sleep

  847. it's in

  848. rest

  849. it's an

  850. escape

  851. from having

  852. to live

  853. with the

  854. wickedness

  855. of the

  856. world

  857. including

  858. its impact

  859. on us

  860. it's a

  861. great hope

  862. but the

  863. other way

  864. out of this

  865. mess begins

  866. to be revealed

  867. in verse

  868. 13

  869. the

  870. person

  871. who

  872. makes

  873. me

  874. his

  875. refuge

  876. will

  877. inherit

  878. the

  879. land

  880. and

  881. possess

  882. my

  883. holy

  884. mountain

  885. the

  886. wicked

  887. person

  888. is

  889. invited

  890. to

  891. find

  892. safety

  893. and

  894. protection

  895. with

  896. God

  897. hear that

  898. the

  899. wicked

  900. person

  901. is

  902. invited

  903. to

  904. find

  905. safety

  906. and

  907. protection

  908. with

  909. God

  910. absolutely

  911. unbelievable

  912. and true

  913. and so

  914. if you

  915. are

  916. overwhelmed

  917. by your

  918. own

  919. sin

  920. and

  921. failures

  922. this

  923. is

  924. for

  925. you

  926. God

  927. asserts

  928. himself

  929. verse

  930. 15

  931. he says

  932. this is

  933. what the

  934. high and

  935. holy

  936. one

  937. says

  938. he

  939. who

  940. lives

  941. forever

  942. whose

  943. name

  944. is

  945. holy

  946. I

  947. live

  948. in a

  949. high

  950. and

  951. holy

  952. place

  953. but

  954. also

  955. with

  956. him

  957. who

  958. is

  959. contrite

  960. and

  961. lowly

  962. in

  963. spirit

  964. to

  965. revive

  966. the

  967. spirit

  968. of

  969. the

  970. lowly

  971. and

  972. to

  973. revive

  974. the

  975. heart

  976. of

  977. the

  978. contrite

  979. see

  980. the

  981. picture

  982. here

  983. is

  984. wickedness

  985. seems

  986. to

  987. reign

  988. and

  989. it

  990. might

  991. not

  992. be

  993. where

  994. all

  995. the

  996. action

  997. is

  998. it

  999. might

  1000. seem

  1001. like

  1002. this

  1003. is

  1004. the

  1005. place

  1006. where

  1007. all

  1008. the

  1009. action

  1010. is

  1011. but

  1012. the

  1013. eternal

  1014. God

  1015. of

  1016. the

  1017. universe

  1018. speaks

  1019. from

  1020. his

  1021. everlasting

  1022. throne

  1023. and

  1024. he

  1025. says

  1026. I

  1027. reign

  1028. I

  1029. am

  1030. king

  1031. and

  1032. whether

  1033. you

  1034. believe

  1035. it

  1036. or

  1037. not

  1038. I

  1039. be

  1040. true

  1041. and

  1042. notice

  1043. what

  1044. God

  1045. doesn't

  1046. say

  1047. to

  1048. us

  1049. as

  1050. we

  1051. come

  1052. to

  1053. him

  1054. he

  1055. doesn't

  1056. say

  1057. pull

  1058. up

  1059. your

  1060. socks

  1061. get

  1062. your

  1063. act

  1064. together

  1065. overcome

  1066. your

  1067. sin

  1068. he

  1069. speaks

  1070. to

  1071. the

  1072. person

  1073. who

  1074. makes

  1075. him

  1076. their

  1077. refuge

  1078. and

  1079. he

  1080. says

  1081. not

  1082. only

  1083. does

  1084. God

  1085. reign

  1086. on

  1087. his

  1088. glorious

  1089. throne

  1090. in

  1091. heaven

  1092. he

  1093. is

  1094. also

  1095. with

  1096. him

  1097. who

  1098. is

  1099. contrite

  1100. and

  1101. lowly

  1102. in

  1103. spirit

  1104. to

  1105. revive

  1106. the

  1107. spirit

  1108. of

  1109. the

  1110. lonely

  1111. and

  1112. revive

  1113. the

  1114. heart

  1115. of

  1116. the

  1117. contrite

  1118. God

  1119. is

  1120. near

  1121. as a

  1122. passage

  1123. I

  1124. often

  1125. read

  1126. to

  1127. people

  1128. in

  1129. distress

  1130. and

  1131. sometimes

  1132. it

  1133. is

  1134. in

  1135. distress

  1136. over

  1137. their

  1138. own

  1139. sin

  1140. and

  1141. failure

  1142. so

  1143. you

  1144. minister

  1145. to

  1146. a

  1147. person

  1148. differently

  1149. according

  1150. to how

  1151. they

  1152. present

  1153. themselves

  1154. to

  1155. you

  1156. so

  1157. if

  1158. somebody

  1159. comes

  1160. forward

  1161. saying

  1162. there's

  1163. nothing

  1164. wrong

  1165. with

  1166. all

  1167. this

  1168. stuff

  1169. I'm

  1170. doing

  1171. that's

  1172. a

  1173. very

  1174. different

  1175. perspective

  1176. from

  1177. the

  1178. person

  1179. who

  1180. comes

  1181. forward

  1182. and

  1183. done

  1184. and

  1185. the

  1186. evil

  1187. that

  1188. is

  1189. in

  1190. my

  1191. heart

  1192. what

  1193. is

  1194. going

  1195. to

  1196. come

  1197. of

  1198. me

  1199. and

  1200. psalm

    Psalms 9:7

  1201. chapter

  1202. 9

  1203. verse

  1204. 7

  1205. says

  1206. the

  1207. Lord

  1208. reigns

  1209. forever

  1210. and

  1211. he

  1212. has

  1213. established

  1214. his

  1215. throne

  1216. for

  1217. judgment

  1218. he

  1219. will

  1220. judge

  1221. the

  1222. world

  1223. in

  1224. righteousness

  1225. and

  1226. he

  1227. will

  1228. govern

  1229. the

  1230. peoples

  1231. with

  1232. justice

  1233. the

  1234. Lord

  1235. is

  1236. a

  1237. refuge

  1238. for

  1239. the

  1240. oppressed

  1241. a

  1242. stronghold

  1243. in

  1244. times

  1245. of

  1246. trouble

  1247. and

  1248. those

  1249. who

  1250. know

  1251. your

  1252. name

  1253. will

  1254. trust

  1255. in

  1256. you

  1257. for

  1258. you

  1259. Lord

  1260. have

  1261. never

  1262. forsaken

  1263. those

  1264. who

  1265. seek

  1266. you

  1267. God

  1268. is

  1269. king

  1270. and

  1271. he

  1272. is

  1273. also

  1274. very

  1275. near

  1276. to

  1277. those

  1278. who

  1279. are

  1280. humble

  1281. enough

  1282. to

  1283. make

  1284. him

  1285. their

  1286. refuge

  1287. and

  1288. over

  1289. and

  1290. over

  1291. again

  1292. he

  1293. invites

  1294. us

  1295. to

  1296. bring

  1297. our

  1298. failures

  1299. and

  1300. our

  1301. brokenness

  1302. to

  1303. him

  1304. without

  1305. pretense

  1306. this

  1307. is

  1308. the

  1309. other

  1310. conversation

  1311. I

  1312. mentioned

  1313. a

  1314. minute

  1315. ago

  1316. if

  1317. your

  1318. life

  1319. is

  1320. damaged

  1321. by

  1322. immorality

  1323. or your

  1324. conscience

  1325. is torn

  1326. through the

  1327. impact

  1328. of an

  1329. abortion

  1330. or whatever

  1331. it is

  1332. that weighs

  1333. upon your

  1334. soul

  1335. Christ the

  1336. king invites

  1337. you to

  1338. make him

  1339. your

  1340. refuge

  1341. God's

  1342. men and

  1343. women

  1344. are

  1345. deeply

  1346. aware

  1347. of

  1348. sin

  1349. and

  1350. they

  1351. struggle

  1352. with

  1353. it

  1354. and

  1355. it

  1356. is

  1357. with

  1358. broken

  1359. hearts

  1360. and

  1361. dependent

  1362. spirits

  1363. that

  1364. we

  1365. come

  1366. to

  1367. God

  1368. and

  1369. we

  1370. throw

  1371. ourselves

  1372. on

  1373. his

  1374. mercy

  1375. one

  1376. of the

  1377. commentators

  1378. I read

  1379. as I

  1380. prepared

  1381. this

  1382. message

  1383. says

  1384. God

  1385. comforts

  1386. mourners

  1387. and

  1388. those

  1389. who

  1390. won't

  1391. weep

  1392. won't

  1393. be

  1394. comforted

  1395. so

  1396. if

  1397. you

  1398. have

  1399. been

  1400. tainted

  1401. by the

  1402. immorality

  1403. of this

  1404. world

  1405. as I

  1406. have

  1407. and

  1408. if

  1409. you

  1410. have

  1411. participated

  1412. in

  1413. Moloch

  1414. and

  1415. been

  1416. involved

  1417. in

  1418. the

  1419. destruction

  1420. of

  1421. unborn

  1422. children

  1423. or

  1424. whatever

  1425. it is

  1426. that

  1427. you

  1428. have

  1429. done

  1430. there

  1431. is

  1432. this

  1433. extraordinary

  1434. invitation

  1435. to

  1436. throw

  1437. ourselves

  1438. on

  1439. God's

  1440. mercy

  1441. and

  1442. he

  1443. doesn't

  1444. say

  1445. get

  1446. out

  1447. of

  1448. my

  1449. sight

  1450. I

  1451. don't

  1452. ever

  1453. want

  1454. to

  1455. see

  1456. you

  1457. again

  1458. he

  1459. invites

  1460. us

  1461. to

  1462. bring

  1463. our

  1464. sin

  1465. and

  1466. failure

  1467. to

  1468. the

  1469. one

  1470. who

  1471. was

  1472. pierced

  1473. for

  1474. our

  1475. transgressions

  1476. crushed
