  1. Good morning everyone.

  2. You've done well to come out on a morning like this morning,

  3. but it's great to be here and a tremendous amount of encouragement in Christ

  4. to be his people together.

  5. When Wendy was... I chose the Bible reading,

  6. but when she was reading that Isaiah reading,

  7. 25 years ago I was a student minister at Currajong

  8. and I was in the old church with wooden floors like this

  9. and being a student felt like I needed to colour my sermon even more

  10. than what the ministers would normally do.

  11. So I brought my axe into church and at the moment when you raise the axe,

  12. you know, the king of Assyria is just an instrument in my hand,

  13. I put it down on the pulpit, slipped off and went bang on the floor.

  14. And I don't think they remember anything else about the sermon

  15. except what happened with the axe that morning.

  16. Anyway, let's pray.

  17. Thank you, Father, for bringing us together.

  18. Father, please warm our hearts, strengthen our hearts

  19. from your word this morning.

  20. Grow us in Christ and grow us in a mindset

  21. that helps us in thinking who we are as believers,

  22. especially in the work that we do.

  23. And we pray this in Jesus' name. Amen.

  24. One of our church family spoke to me a few weeks ago

  25. about their employment

  26. and they told me what life was like in their workplace

  27. as a believer.

  28. And you'd have to say their work for them is like,

  29. is probably like a love-hate relationship

  30. with the emphasis being more on hate.

  31. They work with a persecuting boss

  32. who has a particular set of prejudices towards Christians.

  33. Their boss has been exposed to pretty terrible hypocrisy

  34. of churches

  35. as their boss has gone about their work.

  36. They've seen it and had to bear with it.

  37. And because of that,

  38. his boss's attitude towards our brother

  39. may well affect his ability to progress

  40. in his workplace

  41. because they've summed him up

  42. and applied their mind to what they think about him

  43. in the light of their experience of Christians.

  44. And yet at the same time

  45. before his boss became his boss,

  46. he had been given great responsibility in his work.

  47. He has oversight of a number of people.

  48. He told me about two women in particular

  49. that were causing grief and dysfunction in the office.

  50. They literally hated one another.

  51. He picked his moment.

  52. He'd been praying about it.

  53. He went to one of the women

  54. and he said,

  55. I want to ask you to do something

  56. that I think you'll find very difficult.

  57. You aren't too busy at present.

  58. That woman over there,

  59. she's quite overloaded.

  60. Not now, but later when I'm not looking.

  61. Would you go to her

  62. and ask her

  63. if there's anything that you can do

  64. to help her and ease her load?

  65. Short story.

  66. Later on, he saw from a distance

  67. her do what he'd asked

  68. to go to that woman.

  69. They shared the work.

  70. A friendship has grown to the point now

  71. where they meet each other for coffee and for lunch.

  72. Our brother exercised a reconciling influence for good in his workplace.

  73. And he wasn't trying to blow his own trumpet.

  74. But for him,

  75. that was a moment of deep satisfaction

  76. in an otherwise difficult job.

  77. And I think it's all there

  78. in that story in his workplace,

  79. in his experience.

  80. Work is toilsome.

  81. It is burdensome.

  82. It gets distorted.

  83. He works hard against trying to make it into an idol.

  84. And yet there are moments of triumph

  85. and joy

  86. and satisfaction

  87. which are the consequence

  88. of the profound influence of Jesus Christ.

  89. The writer of Ecclesiastes was correct

  90. when he said in chapter 5, verse 18,

  91. I realised that it is good and proper

  92. for a man to eat and drink

  93. and to find satisfaction

  94. in his toilsome labour

  95. under the sun

  96. during the few days of life

  97. that God's given him

  98. because that's his lot.

  99. And moreover,

  100. when God gives any man wealth and possessions

  101. and enables him to enjoy them,

  102. to accept his lot

  103. and be happy in his work,

  104. this is a gift of God.

  105. He seldom reflects on the days of his life

  106. because God keeps him occupied

  107. with gladness of heart.

  108. Now the last few weeks

  109. while we've been preaching this series,

  110. we've seen a number of things

  111. about work.

  112. We have seen that work has dignity

  113. because it is part of God's creative purposes for us.

  114. We've seen that work is different from employment.

  115. It may include employment

  116. but it certainly includes the work of life

  117. such as raising families,

  118. nurturing grandchildren,

  119. serving our community.

  120. It's vocational

  121. and when we use the word vocational,

  122. we've been saying

  123. we are called to work by someone

  124. or for someone.

  125. So work is not about us

  126. and a means to our own ends.

  127. For a believer,

  128. work is service of God

  129. and also service of the person

  130. who calls us to work for them.

  131. We've also seen that work has become toilsome

  132. as a direct result of God's judgment

  133. in Genesis 3.

  134. We've seen that it is easily distorted

  135. when we make an idol of it.

  136. The things that we idolise

  137. can be good of themselves.

  138. We're not saying that wealth is wrong

  139. or children are wrong

  140. or esteem is wrong

  141. or opportunity is wrong.

  142. But we're saying that these things become idols

  143. when we allow them

  144. to displace Jesus Christ as Lord in our life

  145. when they become the ultimate purpose of our work.

  146. And so work in a fallen world

  147. can look pretty hopeless

  148. and what I want to do today

  149. is preach about finding contentment in our work.

  150. How can we experience work as God's good gift?

  151. How do we cope with the difficulty

  152. and the toilsome nature of work?

  153. How do we work without distorting it

  154. into an idol that we give our life to?

  155. Tim Keller's book,

  156. which is Every Good Endeavour.

  157. We've got a couple more copies there in the foyer.

  158. They've been disappearing off the resource stand.

  159. There's two there if you want to get one.

  160. I want to follow his book this morning

  161. in two directions in particular.

  162. I want to look at the world

  163. with a gospel set of glasses.

  164. And secondly,

  165. I want us to see the world

  166. as a place where God continually

  167. impacts the lives of everyone

  168. whether they are a believer or an unbeliever.

  169. Whether we recognise it or not,

  170. everybody has a world view,

  171. a lens through which we look at the world

  172. and make sense of what is happening around us.

  173. And most of us are full of logical inconsistencies.

  174. So the scientific naturalist

  175. who views the world as a mechanism

  176. and sees people as animals,

  177. they will argue for

  178. and they will marvel at concepts

  179. like the survival of the fittest

  180. and natural selection

  181. where the strong do away with the weak.

  182. and then they will be aggrieved

  183. when somebody murders the professor

  184. in their faculty

  185. or their wife or their child.

  186. They will be outraged

  187. that someone of high value to them

  188. is done away with

  189. by someone of lower value

  190. in terms of their own ethical framework.

  191. their value system

  192. is in conflict

  193. with their mechanistic understanding of life.

  194. And their value system

  195. just does not add up.

  196. You see,

  197. if there's no moral

  198. ultimate accountability

  199. then why wouldn't I sleep with your wife,

  200. murder you,

  201. take your estate,

  202. I'd just be,

  203. I'd need to be stronger of course,

  204. but I'd just be asserting myself

  205. as stronger

  206. and fitter than you

  207. and there would be no moral consequences

  208. to my action.

  209. But the Bible

  210. has an entirely different lens

  211. through which we view life.

  212. So when King David

  213. slept with Uriah's wife,

  214. murdered Uriah,

  215. then took Bathsheba

  216. to be his own wife,

  217. he soon discovered

  218. that the God of his forefathers

  219. was displeased

  220. with what he had done

  221. and God brought justice

  222. and accountability

  223. to bear on David.

  224. So I want to say

  225. that the Bible presents

  226. a very coherent world view.

  227. It's built around the reality

  228. that there is a creator

  229. God of the universe.

  230. Jesus is Lord of the universe.

  231. Colossians chapter 1 says

    Colossians 1 chapter mention

  232. that all things were created

  233. by him and for him.

  234. So even today,

  235. this morning in Sydney,

  236. Jesus continues his work

  237. intervening in his creation

  238. as he sees fit.

  239. And that truth

  240. echoes to the very core

  241. of our being

  242. whether we believe

  243. in God or not.

  244. Psalm 19,

  245. where Sam was

  246. a little while ago

  247. with the kids,

  248. declared,

  249. Psalm 19 says,

  250. the heavens declare

  251. the glory of God,

  252. the skies proclaim

  253. the work of his hands.

  254. This stupendously intricate

  255. and marvellous universe

  256. points to something

  257. even more glorious

  258. beyond it,

  259. its creator

  260. who spoke it

  261. into being

  262. in the first place.

  263. Romans holds

  264. everyone culpable

  265. for what we do know

  266. about God.

  267. Not what we don't know

  268. about God,

  269. but what we do know

  270. about God.

  271. So verse 18 says,

  272. the wrath of God

  273. is being revealed

  274. from heaven

  275. against all the godlessness

  276. and wickedness

  277. of men

  278. who suppress the truth

  279. by their wickedness.

  280. Since what may be known

  281. about God

  282. is plain to them

  283. because God has made it

  284. plain to them.

  285. For since the creation

  286. of the world,

  287. God's invisible qualities,

  288. his eternal power,

  289. his divine nature,

  290. have been clearly seen,

  291. being understood

  292. from what has been made

  293. so that people

  294. are without excuse.

  295. You get a great example

  296. of this when you look

  297. at Isaiah 10.

  298. The Assyrian emperor

  299. thinks that he is

  300. king of the world

  301. and from the world's

  302. point of view he is.

  303. He is the unchallenged

  304. superpower of the world

  305. 2,500 years ago.

  306. He doesn't believe in God.

  307. He helps himself

  308. to one country

  309. after another.

  310. He conquers all before him.

  311. And he's a haughty

  312. boaster about his work.

  313. So verses 13, 14.

  314. By the strength

  315. of my hand

  316. I've done this.

  317. By my wisdom

  318. because I have understanding

  319. I removed the boundaries

  320. of nations.

  321. I plundered their treasures.

  322. Like a mighty one

  323. I subdued their kings.

  324. As one reaches

  325. into a nest

  326. so my hand reached

  327. for the wealth

  328. of the nations.

  329. As men gather

  330. abandoned eggs

  331. so I gathered

  332. all the countries

  333. not one flapped a wing

  334. or opened its mouth

  335. to church.

  336. Isn't he the greatest?

  337. He thinks so.

  338. So for the king

  339. it's all about him

  340. his desires

  341. his achievements

  342. he does a big work

  343. as a king

  344. and his world view

  345. does not include

  346. God at all

  347. he doesn't believe

  348. in him.

  349. And the problem

  350. for him

  351. and for you

  352. and for me

  353. is a very

  354. inconvenient truth

  355. that just because

  356. you don't believe

  357. in God

  358. doesn't mean

  359. he tucks his tail

  360. between his legs

  361. and goes away

  362. rejected and shamefaced.

  363. And in Isaiah 10

  364. God answers

  365. the king of Assyria's

  366. boast

  367. and he says

  368. woe to him

  369. I send him

  370. I dispatch him

  371. I have purposes

  372. for him

  373. Verse 15

  374. does the axe

  375. raise itself

  376. above him

  377. who swings it

  378. He might be

  379. the greatest king

  380. with the most

  381. modern army

  382. but he does not

  383. operate outside

  384. of God's purposes

  385. for his creation

  386. the king of Assyria

  387. is a tool

  388. in God's hands

  389. and he had better

  390. recognise it.

  391. And so a Bible

  392. worldview

  393. is that it doesn't

  394. matter how big

  395. or important

  396. you are in your

  397. life's work

  398. or your field

  399. of endeavour

  400. we are accountable

  401. to God

  402. and our work

  403. our achievements

  404. only occur

  405. with God's

  406. permission

  407. and for his

  408. pleasure.

  409. A gospel

  410. worldview

  411. also recognises

  412. the lordship

  413. of Jesus Christ

  414. The apostle

  415. puts it very

  416. succinctly

  417. in 1 Corinthians

  418. 15

  419. By this gospel

  420. you are saved

  421. if you hold

  422. firmly to the

  423. word I preach

  424. to you

  425. otherwise

  426. you have

  427. believed in

  428. vain

  429. For what I

  430. received I

  431. passed on to

  432. you as of

  433. first importance

  434. that Christ

  435. died for our

  436. sins according

  437. to the

  438. scriptures

  439. that he was

  440. buried

  441. that he was

  442. raised on the

  443. third day

  444. according to

  445. the scriptures

  446. and that he

  447. appeared to

  448. Peter and

  449. then to the

  450. twelve and

  451. on and on

  452. it goes

  453. so it's a

  454. word which is

  455. preached

  456. we participate

  457. in this

  458. preached word

  459. through belief

  460. it's received

  461. and then we

  462. are able to

  463. pass it on

  464. so Christ

  465. died according

  466. to the

  467. scriptures

  468. he was

  469. buried

  470. he was

  471. raised on

  472. the third

  473. day according

  474. to the

  475. scriptures

  476. and then he

  477. appeared to

  478. witnesses

  479. including me

  480. and we've got

  481. this great

  482. picture of God

  483. taking the

  484. initiative

  485. we're spectators

  486. to what God

  487. has done

  488. we participate

  489. by belief

  490. and then becoming

  491. part of the

  492. process of

  493. transmission

  494. passing it

  495. on

  496. but when we

  497. believe the

  498. gospel

  499. we take on

  500. this new set

  501. of glasses

  502. for viewing

  503. the world

  504. for looking

  505. at God's

  506. world

  507. we begin

  508. to see the

  509. world through

  510. God's eyes

  511. and we see

  512. our place

  513. in his

  514. purposes

  515. so Philippians

    Philippians 2 chapter mention

  516. chapter 2

  517. therefore God

  518. God exalted

  519. Jesus to the

  520. highest place

  521. and gave him

  522. the name that

  523. is above every

  524. name that at

  525. the name of

  526. Jesus every

  527. knee should

  528. bow in

  529. heaven and

  530. on earth and

  531. under the

  532. earth and

  533. every tongue

  534. confess that

  535. Jesus Christ

  536. is Lord to

  537. the glory of

  538. God the

  539. Father

  540. we come to

  541. understand that

  542. the risen Lord

  543. Jesus Christ

  544. the risen Jesus

  545. Christ is Lord

  546. of the universe

  547. and everybody

  548. is ultimately

  549. accountable to

  550. him and it

  551. matters it

  552. does matter how

  553. we live and

  554. how we go about

  555. our life's work

  556. Jesus spoke to

  557. believers his

  558. disciples in the

  559. sermon on the

  560. mount he said

  561. you are the salt

  562. of the earth you

  563. are the light of

  564. the world in my

  565. community group

  566. the other night

  567. one of the group

  568. members described

  569. standing with

  570. dignity and

  571. saying nothing

  572. when they were

  573. ridiculed by a

  574. co-worker in

  575. front of others

  576. in the middle of

  577. their workplace

  578. for what they

  579. believed just

  580. stood there and

  581. took it

  582. another person

  583. spoke about how

  584. God began to

  585. trust them with

  586. very personal

  587. confidences because

  588. of the way that

  589. they went about

  590. their work and

  591. you've got this

  592. picture you've got

  593. toil you've got

  594. toil trouble

  595. distortion and

  596. you've also got

  597. these glorious

  598. moments as well

  599. it's not helpful

  600. to draw lines

  601. between word and

  602. deed living under

  603. the lordship of

  604. Christ will be

  605. noticed people

  606. will notice when

  607. we live lives

  608. accountable to

  609. Christ people

  610. will see us

  611. refuse to take

  612. ethical shortcuts

  613. they observe how

  614. we speak about

  615. other people

  616. they watch how

  617. we work under

  618. pressure they

  619. see what we do

  620. when we make

  621. mistakes they're

  622. affected when they

  623. see us take

  624. responsibility for

  625. things that we

  626. do wrong people

  627. watch and they

  628. test to see if

  629. our actions are

  630. consistent with

  631. our words and

  632. that will often

  633. lead to opportunities

  634. to speak about

  635. our faith and

  636. your work

  637. environment might

  638. be very tough

  639. for you at

  640. present sleepless

  641. looking after sick

  642. children pressured

  643. unfairly in your

  644. workplace crushed

  645. by people's

  646. expectations of

  647. your performance

  648. or perhaps a

  649. real mistake by

  650. you has led to

  651. very significant

  652. consequences

  653. gospel glasses

  654. help us to see

  655. the lordship of

  656. Christ transcending

  657. every place of

  658. work or profession

  659. to see our

  660. accountability to

  661. him to hold on to

  662. his promises of

  663. providential care for

  664. us to understand

  665. that we live and

  666. breathe under his

  667. undeserved grace

  668. Timothy Keller gives

  669. an example in his

  670. book of a gospel

  671. glasses change he

  672. says this is a quote

  673. in higher education in

  674. the United States

  675. today is the

  676. modern idea of

  677. meritocracy and

  678. the belief that

  679. those who get into

  680. the best universities

  681. deserve to be there

  682. because they are the

  683. best and the

  684. brightest and I

  685. suspect that that

  686. sort of thinking

  687. resonates up and

  688. down the north shore

  689. of Sydney we don't

  690. like acknowledging

  691. wealth and

  692. privilege we think

  693. in terms of what

  694. we deserve we rate

  695. ourselves or our

  696. children or our

  697. grandchildren in

  698. accordance with

  699. UAIs even if we

  700. have paid tens of

  701. thousands of dollars

  702. on schooling and

  703. coaching for the

  704. result that we

  705. want

  706. and Keller

  707. contrasts that with

  708. the thinking of the

  709. Protestant forefathers

  710. who established the

  711. leading universities in

  712. the United States the

  713. Ivy League universities

  714. he says the founders of

  715. those universities were

  716. strident Protestants

  717. who believed that the

  718. mark of salvation was

  719. not high self-esteem

  720. but humbling awareness of

  721. one's lowliness in the

  722. eyes of God

  723. and those whom God

  724. favours are granted

  725. grace not for any

  726. worthiness of their own

  727. but because of God's

  728. unmerited mercy

  729. our profession of faith

  730. is Jesus Christ is

  731. Lord

  732. and it must be

  733. accompanied by a

  734. humility of heart in

  735. the lives of his

  736. people

  737. humble

  738. authenticity

  739. is a very

  740. high value

  741. for us

  742. at St.

  743. Paul's

  744. because it is an

  745. absolutely

  746. necessary response

  747. to the lordship

  748. of the risen

  749. Lord Jesus Christ

  750. but it's a confusing

  751. world isn't it

  752. not everyone

  753. acknowledges the true

  754. ultimate reality

  755. which is the

  756. lordship of Christ

  757. the world's not

  758. short of unbelievers

  759. believers and

  760. unbelievers both

  761. experience the common

  762. grace of Christ

  763. rain falls on the

  764. farms of both

  765. believers and

  766. unbelievers

  767. when I lived in

  768. Weewa trouble

  769. didn't discriminate

  770. either

  771. floods went

  772. through the farms

  773. of believers

  774. and unbelievers

  775. it didn't sort of

  776. think oh hang on

  777. he's been in church

  778. and he's really

  779. active

  780. we'll go that way

  781. went straight

  782. through

  783. and insects

  784. don't stay on one

  785. property they cross

  786. the fence to the

  787. neighbour as well

  788. they don't have this

  789. special sign saying

  790. protected by God

  791. farming is hard

  792. work

  793. for some it

  794. becomes an idol

  795. and then sometimes

  796. there are the most

  797. enjoyable moments

  798. when rain falls at

  799. just the right time

  800. you get a rest from

  801. irrigation

  802. you get extra

  803. yield in your crop

  804. it's good to live

  805. out in the bush

  806. you see it

  807. believers and

  808. unbelievers live

  809. under the common

  810. grace of God

  811. in a fallen

  812. world

  813. and the impacts

  814. can look really

  815. confusing

  816. an unbelieving

  817. mother can be

  818. a deeply

  819. loving and

  820. capable

  821. carer

  822. of her

  823. children

  824. a believing

  825. mother can get

  826. postnatal depression

  827. and be quite

  828. neglectful

  829. an unbelieving

  830. scientist can use

  831. his God

  832. given ability

  833. and unravel

  834. the marvels

  835. of DNA

  836. the man

  837. or the woman

  838. who serves you

  839. in the coffee

  840. shop may be

  841. living a

  842. notoriously

  843. immoral

  844. life

  845. and they

  846. may make

  847. the best

  848. coffee

  849. you get

  850. anywhere

  851. and in

  852. your

  853. workplace

  854. you do

  855. your work

  856. to the best

  857. of your

  858. ability

  859. and it's

  860. just the

  861. truth that

  862. many of

  863. the unbelievers

  864. around you

  865. are more

  866. capable

  867. than you

  868. are

  869. one of

  870. my

  871. relatives

  872. who wasn't

  873. expressing

  874. faith in

  875. Christ

  876. was much

  877. quicker

  878. at turning

  879. the television

  880. off than

  881. me

  882. when something

  883. inappropriate

  884. was showing

  885. you see

  886. unbelievers

  887. can do

  888. good things

  889. they can

  890. be considerate

  891. they can

  892. be loving

  893. they can

  894. be selfless

  895. they can

  896. make

  897. brilliant

  898. discoveries

  899. they can

  900. be blown

  901. away by

  902. a majestic

  903. sunrise

  904. they can

  905. marvel at

  906. the photographs

  907. of the

  908. universe

  909. that the

  910. Hubble

  911. telescope

  912. beams

  913. back

  914. they can

  915. be generous

  916. in helping

  917. a neighbour

  918. with cancer

  919. they can

  920. mind

  921. their children

  922. they can

  923. make them

  924. a meal

  925. they can

  926. treat you

  927. with complete

  928. integrity

  929. when they

  930. ask you

  931. out on

  932. a date

  933. they can

  934. excel

  935. at HSC

  936. and

  937. university

  938. exams

  939. they can

  940. be good

  941. carpenters

  942. and electricians

  943. and childcare

  944. workers

  945. who wouldn't

  946. even think

  947. to molest

  948. a child

  949. you see

  950. you can

  951. be all

  952. those

  953. good

  954. things

  955. you can

  956. love

  957. and serve

  958. other people

  959. without

  960. confessing

  961. Jesus

  962. Christ

  963. as

  964. Lord

  965. and it's

  966. confusing

  967. when I

  968. was at

  969. Moore

  970. College

  971. I did

  972. a hospital

  973. orientation

  974. course

  975. at

  976. Royal

  977. Prince

  978. Alfred

  979. Hospital

  980. for a

  981. week

  982. and one

  983. afternoon

  984. we as a

  985. group

  986. were

  987. introduced

  988. to a

  989. lovely

  990. man

  991. in his

  992. 70s

  993. a

  994. professor

  995. of

  996. psychiatry

  997. an

  998. active

  999. salvation

  1000. army

  1001. officer

  1002. a

  1003. very

  1004. firm

  1005. Christian

  1006. and so

  1007. it was

  1008. great

  1009. to ask

  1010. him

  1011. one

  1012. of my

  1013. many

  1014. questions

  1015. and in

  1016. particular

  1017. if you

  1018. need

  1019. psychiatric

  1020. help

  1021. do you

  1022. look for

  1023. a

  1024. Christian

  1025. one

  1026. and he

  1027. instantly

  1028. replied

  1029. you

  1030. look for

  1031. a

  1032. good

  1033. one

  1034. you

  1035. need

  1036. a

  1037. good

  1038. one

  1039. you

  1040. see

  1041. believers

  1042. do not

  1043. have a

  1044. monopoly

  1045. on

  1046. truth

  1047. God

  1048. has

  1049. given

  1050. us

  1051. gospel

  1052. glasses

  1053. which

  1054. help

  1055. us

  1056. to

  1057. make

  1058. sense

  1059. of

  1060. God's

  1061. creation

  1062. when

  1063. unbelievers

  1064. discover

  1065. anything

  1066. which is

  1067. true

  1068. about

  1069. this

  1070. world

  1071. they

  1072. are

  1073. discovering

  1074. God's

  1075. truth

  1076. truth

  1077. they

  1078. are

  1079. unravelling

  1080. a little

  1081. bit more

  1082. of his

  1083. mind

  1084. and the

  1085. intricacies

  1086. of our

  1087. maker

  1088. they're not

  1089. giving him

  1090. the glory

  1091. but they

  1092. are

  1093. discovering

  1094. truth

  1095. and friends

  1096. I think

  1097. that leads

  1098. us to a

  1099. few

  1100. places

  1101. we

  1102. should be

  1103. especially

  1104. guarded

  1105. against

  1106. our

  1107. own

  1108. arrogance

  1109. to

  1110. presume

  1111. that

  1112. Christians

  1113. know

  1114. more

  1115. or

  1116. better

  1117. about

  1118. a

  1119. field

  1120. of

  1121. endeavour

  1122. is

  1123. arrogant

  1124. and

  1125. foolish

  1126. gospel

  1127. glasses

  1128. help us

  1129. to see

  1130. the gifts

  1131. and insights

  1132. that God

  1133. has given

  1134. even

  1135. to

  1136. unbelievers

  1137. and to

  1138. learn

  1139. from

  1140. them

  1141. we

  1142. should

  1143. be

  1144. quick

  1145. to

  1146. express

  1147. gratitude

  1148. when

  1149. gratitude

  1150. is

  1151. deserved

  1152. the

  1153. man

  1154. who

  1155. serves

  1156. you

  1157. at

  1158. Bunnings

  1159. and

  1160. goes

  1161. out

  1162. of

  1163. his

  1164. way

  1165. to

  1166. show

  1167. you

  1168. another

  1169. way

  1170. to

  1171. do

  1172. the

  1173. job

  1174. he

  1175. is

  1176. worthy

  1177. of

  1178. our

  1179. thanks

  1180. our

  1181. cleaners

  1182. at

  1183. church

  1184. aren't

  1185. just

  1186. the

  1187. paid

  1188. help

  1189. they

  1190. work

  1191. hard

  1192. to

  1193. clean

  1194. up

  1195. after

  1196. our

  1197. mess

  1198. be

  1199. grateful

  1200. thank

  1201. God

  1202. that he

  1203. allows

  1204. men

  1205. and

  1206. women

  1207. to

  1208. serve

  1209. one

  1210. another

  1211. with

  1212. their

  1213. talents

  1214. and their

  1215. gifts

  1216. and

  1217. service

  1218. which

  1219. ultimately

  1220. come

  1221. from

  1222. his

  1223. hand

  1224. I

  1225. listen

  1226. to

  1227. Catherine

  1228. some

  1229. of

  1230. you

  1231. won't

  1232. even

  1233. know

  1234. what

  1235. I'm

  1236. talking

  1237. about

  1238. I'll

  1239. just

  1240. try

  1241. I

  1242. listen

  1243. to

  1244. Catherine

  1245. Jenkins

  1246. sing

  1247. with

  1248. the

  1249. Mormon

  1250. Tabernacle

  1251. Choir

  1252. on the

  1253. internet

  1254. as I

  1255. prepared

  1256. this

  1257. message

  1258. somebody

  1259. sent

  1260. me

  1261. the

  1262. link

  1263. and

  1264. you

  1265. know

  1266. my

  1267. first

  1268. question

  1269. is

  1270. I'm

  1271. not

  1272. sure

  1273. I want

  1274. to

  1275. listen

  1276. to

  1277. that

  1278. I

  1279. don't

  1280. like

  1281. what

  1282. they

  1283. teach

  1284. about

  1285. Christ

  1286. but

  1287. as I

  1288. listen

  1289. to

  1290. the

  1291. music

  1292. I

  1293. have

  1294. it

  1295. is

  1296. stunningly

  1297. beautiful

  1298. believers

  1299. and

  1300. unbelievers

  1301. live in

  1302. God's

  1303. world

  1304. under

  1305. his

  1306. ordinary

  1307. providential

  1308. care

  1309. for

  1310. believers

  1311. and

  1312. unbelievers

  1313. our

  1314. work

  1315. is

  1316. toilsome

  1317. distorted

  1318. and

  1319. occasionally

  1320. a joy

  1321. that

  1322. brings

  1323. wonderful

  1324. contentment

  1325. and

  1326. when

  1327. it

  1328. does

  1329. it

  1330. is

  1331. God's

  1332. gift

  1333. we

  1334. differ

  1335. in

  1336. our

  1337. acknowledgement

  1338. of

  1339. God

  1340. believers

  1341. humbly

  1342. confess

  1343. Jesus

  1344. Christ

  1345. as

  1346. Lord

  1347. Ecclesiastes

  1348. 5

  1349. again

  1350. when

  1351. God

  1352. gives

  1353. any

  1354. person

  1355. wealth

  1356. and

  1357. possessions

  1358. and

  1359. enables

  1360. him

  1361. to

  1362. enjoy

  1363. them

  1364. to

  1365. accept

  1366. his

  1367. lot

  1368. and

  1369. to

  1370. be

  1371. happy

  1372. in

  1373. his

  1374. work

  1375. this

  1376. is

  1377. a

  1378. gift

  1379. of

  1380. God

  1381. he

  1382. seldom

  1383. reflects

  1384. on

  1385. the

  1386. days

  1387. of

  1388. his

  1389. life

  1390. because

  1391. God

  1392. keeps

  1393. him

  1394. occupied

  1395. with

  1396. gladness

  1397. of

  1398. heart

  1399. see

  1400. believers

  1401. hold

  1402. what we

  1403. have

  1404. from

  1405. God's

  1406. hand

  1407. with

  1408. gratitude

  1409. and

  1410. contentment

  1411. and hope

  1412. grateful

  1413. to him

  1414. for what

  1415. he has

  1416. given

  1417. us

  1418. to do

  1419. gratitude

  1420. but

  1421. also

  1422. grateful

  1423. to

  1424. God

  1425. for

  1426. the

  1427. people

  1428. around

  1429. us

  1430. believers

  1431. and

  1432. unbelievers

  1433. who

  1434. use

  1435. their

  1436. God

  1437. given

  1438. gifts

  1439. and

  1440. talents

  1441. to

  1442. serve

  1443. us

  1444. so

  1445. live

  1446. like

  1447. that

  1448. with

  1449. gratitude

  1450. gratitude

  1451. I

  1452. actually

  1453. think

  1454. if we

  1455. if we

  1456. live

  1457. like that

  1458. with

  1459. gratitude

  1460. to

  1461. those

  1462. around

  1463. us

  1464. that

  1465. we

  1466. will

  1467. have

  1468. many

  1469. opportunities

  1470. to

  1471. speak

  1472. and

  1473. declare

  1474. the

  1475. hope

  1476. that

  1477. we

  1478. have

  1479. in

  1480. our

  1481. wonderful

  1482. risen

  1483. Lord

  1484. Jesus

  1485. Christ

  1486. so

  1487. I want

  1488. to say

  1489. this

  1490. morning

  1491. go

  1492. from

  1493. here

  1494. full

  1495. of

  1496. humble

  1497. authenticity

  1498. full

  1499. of

  1500. gratitude

  1501. to

  1502. God

  1503. for

  1504. the

  1505. work

  1506. that

  1507. he

  1508. has

  1509. given

  1510. us

  1511. and

  1512. make

  1513. it a

  1514. mark

  1515. of

  1516. this

  1517. week

  1518. to

  1519. be

  1520. grateful

  1521. to

  1522. God

  1523. for

  1524. those

  1525. who

  1526. serve

  1527. you

  1528. and

  1529. make

  1530. sure

  1531. that

  1532. you

  1533. express

  1534. gratitude

  1535. to

  1536. them

  1537. as

  1538. well

  1539. Amen
