  1. It would be good if you grab a sermon's handout today

  2. or actually grab a transcript because that may be helpful for you.

  3. I actually forgot to do an English-only transcript,

  4. so choose a simplified traditional.

  5. They are all the same in the English part.

  6. Have you or your family ever been to a treetop experience yet?

  7. One that you do obstacles from high above ground,

  8. you do flying forks, and you climb road nets.

  9. We went a couple of years ago with a couple of other families.

  10. While the youngest kids have their own little program,

  11. little course to go through,

  12. the older children join us to do the junior and adult course.

  13. The term and condition says,

  14. practitioner must be 10 years and older,

  15. at least 1.4 meters tall,

  16. and under 120 kilograms.

  17. One adult must accompany a junior

  18. to make sure they follow all the safety instructions

  19. and get no exception to age, size, or weight.

  20. So we start on the easier course,

  21. and the course gets longer and harder as we approach lunch.

  22. It was still a lot of fun,

  23. and kids have a great time.

  24. However, I noticed that every time

  25. when I fly back to the platform,

  26. the wheel will get so hard,

  27. it will stop short,

  28. about 10 to 20 meters away from the platform.

  29. So I literally, the whole morning,

  30. was doing this.

  31. For the last, every course I've gone through.

  32. And there is a weight limit

  33. on the condition for entry for a very good reason.

  34. Even though I'm under that weight limit,

  35. I'm very close to it as well.

  36. So while experiencing the challenge on top of the tree,

  37. I have my weight and the gravity as my enemy,

  38. which is very hard to overcome.

  39. However,

  40. the enemies that Paul is facing in 2 Corinthians

  41. are beyond what we can imagine.

  42. Paul is facing enemies from within and without,

  43. from those that were his colleagues,

  44. went to the same school with him,

  45. pursued the same ideal with him

  46. before he became a Christian.

  47. People that are his kinsmen,

  48. but now trace after him to destroy everything

  49. he worked hard to build.

  50. It started as soon as

  51. he became a follower of Jesus.

  52. What he mentioned in 2 Corinthians,

  53. the last will of chapter 11,

  54. would most likely be the same incident

  55. that happened in Acts chapter 9,

    Acts 9:22–25

  56. verse 22 to 25.

  57. Straight after he became a follower of Christ,

  58. he was preaching about Jesus in Damascus.

  59. And it says from verse 22,

  60. Saul grew more and more powerful

  61. and baffled the Jews living in Damascus

  62. by proving that Jesus is a Messiah.

  63. After many days had gone by,

  64. there was a conspiracy among the Jews

  65. who killed him.

  66. But Saul learns of their plan.

  67. Day and night,

  68. they kept close watch on the city gate

  69. in order to kill him.

  70. But his followers took him by night

  71. and lowered him in a basket

  72. for an opening in the wall.

  73. If you follow along Acts,

  74. you will see the suffering Paul

  75. go through for the sake of Christ.

  76. In chapter 9, verse 26,

  77. it says people are afraid of him,

  78. not believing he really was a disciple.

  79. And then,

  80. just a couple of verses after that,

  81. it says he speaks boldly

  82. in the name of the Lord,

  83. talk and debate with

  84. Hanunistic Jews,

  85. but they try to kill him.

  86. And then I feel a chapter later

  87. in Acts 13,

  88. in verse 6,

  89. it says,

  90. in pathos,

  91. faced with opposition

  92. from false prophets and sorcerers.

  93. And in the same chapter later on,

  94. when he went to Poseidon's Antioch,

  95. the Jews were filled with jealousy

  96. of their popularity

  97. and began to contradict

  98. what Paul was saying

  99. and heaps abuse on him.

  100. The Jewish leaders incited

  101. the God-feeling women of high standing

  102. and the leading men of the city.

  103. They stirred up persecution

  104. against Paul and Barnabas

  105. and expelled them from the region.

  106. We go on in the next chapter,

  107. in Iconium,

  108. was a plot afoot

  109. among both Gentiles and Jews,

  110. together with the leaders

  111. to mistreat them

  112. and stone them.

  113. And later in the same chapter

  114. in verse 19,

  115. in Nesra,

  116. some Jews came from Antioch

  117. and Iconium

  118. and went to crowd over.

  119. They stoned Paul

  120. and dragged him outside the city,

  121. thinking he was dead.

  122. Next chapter,

  123. Paul and Jew,

  124. a very sharp disagreement

  125. with the person

  126. that was his mentor

  127. and companion

  128. and they parted the company.

  129. A couple of chapters later

  130. in chapter 17,

  131. in Thessalonica,

  132. some of the Jews

  133. were pursued

  134. and joined

  135. Paul and Silas

  136. as did a large number

  137. of God-feeling Greeks

  138. and quite a few prominent women.

  139. But other Jews were jealous

  140. so they ran off

  141. some bad character

  142. from the marketplace,

  143. formed a mob

  144. and started a riot

  145. in the city.

  146. Then later on,

  147. when the Jews

  148. in Thessalonica

  149. learned that Paul

  150. was preaching

  151. the word of God

  152. in Berea,

  153. some of them

  154. went there too,

  155. agitating the crowds

  156. and stirring them up.

  157. And then,

  158. the next chapter

  159. in Corinth,

  160. where this,

  161. what we're looking at today,

  162. the Jews

  163. made a united attack

  164. on Paul

  165. and brought him

  166. to a place of judgment.

  167. And next chapter,

  168. the silversmith

  169. of Ephesus' idol

  170. brought the whole city

  171. into an uproar

  172. against Paul.

  173. From Paul

  174. become a Christian

  175. in chapter 9

  176. to chapter 19,

  177. it's roughly about

  178. 20 years

  179. have passed.

  180. as at chapter 19

  181. is where Paul

  182. written the letter

  183. that we've seen today.

  184. With all this

  185. happening to Paul,

  186. Paul keep on going,

  187. telling people

  188. about Jesus,

  189. keep on being

  190. an authentic follower

  191. of Christ.

  192. So I'd like to look

  193. at three areas

  194. to find out

  195. why he can say,

  196. what he said today

  197. in chapter 12

  198. of 2 Corinthians.

  199. The three areas

  200. that we look at

  201. is not what you know,

  202. but who you know.

  203. How are your do

  204. or say,

  205. tell about you,

  206. and what are you

  207. feeling now?

  208. Paul has shared

  209. something very intimate

  210. in chapter 12

  211. of 2 Corinthians.

  212. In a way,

  213. it also seems

  214. very strange.

  215. Let's read it again

  216. from verse 1.

  217. 2 Corinthians 1.

  218. I must go on

  219. boasting,

  220. although there is

  221. nothing to be gained.

  222. I will go on

  223. to visions

  224. and revelations

  225. from the Lord.

  226. I know a man

  227. in Christ

  228. who 14 years ago

  229. was called up

  230. to the third heaven.

  231. Whether he was

  232. in the body

  233. or out of the body,

  234. I do not know.

  235. God knows.

  236. I know that this man,

  237. whether in the body

  238. or out of the body,

  239. I don't know,

  240. but God knows,

  241. was caught up

  242. to paradise

  243. and heard

  244. inexpressible things,

  245. things that no one

  246. is permitted to tell.

  247. I will boast

  248. about a man like that,

  249. but I will not boast

  250. about myself

  251. except about

  252. my weaknesses.

  253. Paul,

  254. in this passage,

  255. seems to be talking

  256. about himself,

  257. but in a third-person way.

  258. He kept this supernatural

  259. experience and knowledge

  260. for about 14 years

  261. without telling anyone.

  262. I think for a lot of us,

  263. it's so natural for us

  264. to be drawn

  265. to all things

  266. that are mysterious.

  267. It gives us a sense

  268. of adrenaline rush,

  269. like watching horror movies.

  270. We have a very strong

  271. curiosity towards

  272. things unknown

  273. or not permitted,

  274. especially

  275. when we are much younger,

  276. when our sense of fear

  277. and self-protection

  278. or preservation

  279. were much weaker.

  280. Have you ever wondered why?

  281. From my observation,

  282. it has a lot to do

  283. with trying to prove

  284. that we are capable

  285. to be independent.

  286. We believe

  287. once we master

  288. the unknown,

  289. we somehow can

  290. master life better.

  291. We are well on our way

  292. to master our own life,

  293. which means

  294. your life will get somewhere.

  295. And when we think

  296. we got it,

  297. like most kids,

  298. when they master

  299. a new skill,

  300. what would they do naturally?

  301. They would say,

  302. look at me,

  303. look at me.

  304. We like to show

  305. what we know

  306. or can do.

  307. But Paul

  308. held back

  309. for 14 years

  310. because even though

  311. what he knows

  312. and experiences

  313. is so great,

  314. that's not

  315. the things

  316. that he's chasing after

  317. or wanted to boast about.

  318. It's who he knows

  319. that he values

  320. and treasure

  321. and want to tell people about.

  322. in chapter 12,

  323. verse 1,

  324. Paul says,

  325. those visions

  326. and revelations

  327. are from the Lord.

  328. And repeating

  329. the fact that

  330. he does not know

  331. it was

  332. in the body

  333. or apart

  334. from the body

  335. experience,

  336. seems to point

  337. to the fact

  338. that they have

  339. great experience,

  340. but they are not

  341. originated from him.

  342. There are things

  343. outside of him

  344. beyond his control,

  345. so it's not something

  346. that he can plan

  347. to master

  348. or trace after.

  349. Paul said

  350. in 2 Corinthians 11,

  351. 31,

  352. which is the chapter

  353. before that,

  354. that the God

  355. and Father

  356. of the Lord Jesus

  357. knows what he is doing.

  358. And twice

  359. in our passage,

  360. we say,

  361. only God knows

  362. what is going on

  363. with him.

  364. He seems very confident

  365. that God knows him

  366. and he puts himself

  367. as a man

  368. he knows

  369. in Christ.

  370. Where does he get

  371. that sort of confidence?

  372. I think he most likely

  373. gets it from Jesus

  374. because it was exactly

  375. what Jesus prayed

  376. for his followers

  377. in John 17, 26.

  378. Jesus said to God,

  379. I have made you

  380. known to them

  381. and will continue

  382. to make you known

  383. in order

  384. that the love

  385. you have for me

  386. may be in them

  387. and that I myself

  388. may be in them.

  389. Paul is confident

  390. that God knows him

  391. because Jesus

  392. is his mediator,

  393. because Paul

  394. is in Christ

  395. and he knows Christ.

  396. I don't think

  397. I need to say

  398. much about

  399. the value

  400. of knowing

  401. the right person.

  402. You'll find out

  403. if you ever go

  404. to Chayam Cha.

  405. I always like

  406. to go to

  407. Yom Cha

  408. with certain people

  409. because we get

  410. a table straight away.

  411. There's no need

  412. to get a number

  413. and wait

  414. because this person

  415. is known

  416. by all the captains,

  417. all the waiters

  418. and waitress

  419. in the whole restaurant.

  420. When it comes

  421. to understanding

  422. about Christianity,

  423. it's important

  424. to ask the right question,

  425. not to get distracted

  426. to chase after

  427. some super spiritual

  428. experience.

  429. Our focus

  430. in understanding

  431. the Bible

  432. is to know

  433. who we should believe

  434. and to be known

  435. by him.

  436. In 1131,

  437. it says,

  438. God and Father

  439. of the Lord Jesus

  440. is to be praised

  441. forever.

  442. Why is that so?

  443. What does this verse

  444. tell you

  445. about the relationship

  446. between Jesus

  447. and God the Father?

  448. Why do we call

  449. Jesus the Lord?

  450. Those are questions

  451. we should be asking

  452. when we read

  453. God's Word

  454. in the Bible.

  455. If you are just

  456. looking into

  457. Christianity,

  458. those are very helpful

  459. questions to keep

  460. in mind.

  461. But if you are

  462. a follower

  463. of Jesus Christ,

  464. no matter how long

  465. you have been one,

  466. it's even more

  467. important for us

  468. to ask why

  469. we call

  470. Jesus our Lord.

  471. Who is Jesus

  472. to you?

  473. Who is God

  474. to you?

  475. The God

  476. and Father

  477. of the Lord Jesus

  478. is to be praised

  479. forever

  480. because of the

  481. gospel

  482. that reveals

  483. God's grace

  484. to us.

  485. God sent

  486. his Son

  487. into the world

  488. to live a perfect

  489. life,

  490. die as a substitute

  491. for sinners,

  492. absorb the anger

  493. of God,

  494. take away

  495. our guilt,

  496. provide the gift

  497. of right standing

  498. before God,

  499. and give

  500. eternal joy

  501. through faith

  502. in the Lord

  503. Jesus alone,

  504. apart from any

  505. words or

  506. obedience on

  507. our behalf.

  508. This quote

  509. is printed

  510. in our handout

  511. today because

  512. it's so important.

  513. I want you

  514. to be able

  515. to go and

  516. revisit this quote

  517. whenever you

  518. can.

  519. That is such

  520. a great message

  521. to be shared,

  522. but very often

  523. we confuse

  524. the greatness

  525. of the message

  526. with the greatness

  527. of the message

  528. bearer,

  529. the messenger.

  530. We think

  531. a great experience

  532. and great knowledge

  533. add value

  534. to our life,

  535. and when we

  536. think God

  537. would,

  538. a voice inside

  539. us would cry out

  540. saying,

  541. look at me,

  542. look at me,

  543. that Paul did not

  544. boast about himself

  545. or the great

  546. spiritual experience.

  547. He said in

  548. verse 6

  549. of chapter 12,

  550. even if I

  551. should choose

  552. to boast,

  553. I will not

  554. be a fool

  555. because I will

  556. be speaking

  557. the truth,

  558. but I refrain

  559. so no one

  560. will think

  561. more of me

  562. than is warned

  563. by what I do

  564. or say,

  565. or because of

  566. this suppressing

  567. great revelation.

  568. Therefore,

  569. in order to

  570. keep me from

  571. becoming conceited,

  572. I was given

  573. a thorn

  574. in my flesh,

  575. a message

  576. of Satan

  577. to torment me.

  578. Paul said

  579. he did not

  580. want anyone

  581. to think

  582. more of him

  583. than is warned

  584. by what he

  585. do or say,

  586. or because of

  587. this suppressing

  588. great revelation.

  589. Because we

  590. want to build

  591. a certain

  592. perception

  593. in others'

  594. mind,

  595. we want others

  596. to think of us

  597. or value us

  598. in a certain

  599. way.

  600. We sometimes

  601. talk ourselves

  602. up,

  603. or talk

  604. ourselves

  605. down.

  606. We say

  607. one thing

  608. but we

  609. go and

  610. do others.

  611. So,

  612. it's what

  613. you do

  614. and say

  615. really match

  616. up.

  617. If you

  618. call yourself

  619. a Christian,

  620. are you

  621. really living

  622. out your

  623. life as

  624. a follower

  625. of Christ?

  626. Paul warns

  627. us not

  628. to do

  629. things like

  630. a fool,

  631. even when

  632. we are

  633. boasting.

  634. How does

  635. a fool

  636. live out

  637. their life?

  638. Well,

  639. they will

  640. always be

  641. looking for

  642. something to

  643. gain.

  644. or ask

  645. him what

  646. is in

  647. it for

  648. me.

  649. A fool

  650. definitely

  651. cannot hold

  652. on to

  653. a suppressing

  654. grace

  655. revelation

  656. for 14

  657. years.

  658. They will

  659. tell things

  660. that is not

  661. permitted

  662. if they

  663. could make

  664. others think

  665. more of

  666. them.

  667. A fool

  668. will not

  669. be speaking

  670. the truth

  671. and will

  672. not be

  673. able to

  674. refrain

  675. themselves

  676. from

  677. becoming

  678. conceited.

  679. But who

  680. can really

  681. keep

  682. oneself

  683. from

  684. becoming

  685. conceited?

  686. Who

  687. can really

  688. keep

  689. themselves

  690. from

  691. chasing

  692. after

  693. fame

  694. or

  695. from

  696. talking

  697. themselves

  698. up?

  699. Even

  700. Paul

  701. said he

  702. was

  703. given

  704. a thorn

  705. in his

  706. flesh

  707. to keep

  708. him

  709. from

  710. becoming

  711. conceited,

  712. a messenger

  713. of Satan

  714. to torment

  715. him.

  716. He was

  717. given

  718. some kind

  719. of physical

  720. suffering

  721. to keep

  722. him from

  723. puffing

  724. himself

  725. up.

  726. What is

  727. your view

  728. on

  729. suffering?

  730. Suffering

  731. is such

  732. a

  733. mysterious

  734. mystery

  735. that we

  736. could not

  737. be able

  738. to work

  739. out within

  740. our

  741. lifetime.

  742. We can

  743. be suffering

  744. for many

  745. different

  746. reasons.

  747. One

  748. person can

  749. be suffering

  750. because it's

  751. a natural

  752. occurrence of

  753. their body

  754. of being

  755. a human

  756. as they

  757. are growing

  758. and heading

  759. towards a

  760. grave.

  761. I remember

  762. a friend

  763. telling me

  764. that her

  765. kid is

  766. so sensitive

  767. to pain

  768. that as

  769. they are

  770. growing and

  771. their body

  772. are stretching,

  773. they need

  774. painkiller to

  775. ease off

  776. their discomfort.

  777. Someone

  778. can also

  779. be suffering

  780. as a

  781. consequence

  782. of being

  783. foolish

  784. or sinful,

  785. disobedient

  786. to God,

  787. engaging in

  788. behavior that

  789. end up

  790. hurting

  791. themselves

  792. and others.

  793. As I

  794. have mentioned

  795. earlier,

  796. we all

  797. have a

  798. natural

  799. tendency

  800. and

  801. inclination

  802. to be

  803. independent

  804. and be

  805. a master

  806. of our

  807. life.

  808. That in

  809. itself is

  810. nothing wrong

  811. about it.

  812. However,

  813. as

  814. theologian

  815. J.I.

  816. Parker

  817. put it,

  818. if we

  819. allow it

  820. to become

  821. an energy

  822. of irrational,

  823. negative,

  824. and rebellious

  825. reaction to

  826. God's call

  827. and command,

  828. allowing it

  829. to become

  830. a spirit

  831. of fighting

  832. God in

  833. order to

  834. play

  835. God,

  836. we are

  837. committing

  838. sinful

  839. acts.

  840. The root

  841. of sin

  842. is pride

  843. and enmity

  844. against God.

  845. Sinful

  846. acts is

  847. expression

  848. of a

  849. willful

  850. opposition

  851. of the

  852. fallen

  853. heart

  854. to God's

  855. claim on

  856. our life.

  857. However,

  858. suffering

  859. can also

  860. be a

  861. way of

  862. God

  863. working in

  864. our life

  865. to build

  866. us up,

  867. to make

  868. sure what

  869. we do

  870. and say

  871. warren

  872. how others

  873. think of

  874. us.

  875. As a

  876. case for

  877. Paul,

  878. having a

  879. great

  880. surprising

  881. experience

  882. of visiting

  883. paradise

  884. can lead

  885. to pride,

  886. which will

  887. develop in

  888. different kinds

  889. of scenes.

  890. So God

  891. gave him

  892. a thorn

  893. in his flesh

  894. to keep

  895. him humbled

  896. and to

  897. build his

  898. character.

  899. what would

  900. people normally

  901. do with

  902. suffering?

  903. Some will

  904. try to

  905. run away.

  906. Some will

  907. try to

  908. ignore it.

  909. Some may

  910. try to

  911. suppress it

  912. by painkillers

  913. or other

  914. means,

  915. like my

  916. friend

  917. treating

  918. her kid.

  919. Some may

  920. look at

  921. suffering

  922. and say

  923. suffering

  924. is a

  925. proof

  926. that God

  927. does not

  928. exist.

  929. And even

  930. if he

  931. exists,

  932. he's not

  933. loving.

  934. Because how

  935. would a

  936. loving God

  937. allow so

  938. much pain

  939. to exist.

  940. What we

  941. do or

  942. say about

  943. suffering

  944. tell us

  945. what we

  946. know or

  947. do not

  948. know about

  949. God.

  950. We can

  951. allow pain

  952. and suffering

  953. to push

  954. you away

  955. from God

  956. or we

  957. can allow

  958. pain and

  959. suffering

  960. to draw

  961. you closer

  962. to God

  963. like what

  964. it did

  965. to Paul.

  966. You

  967. will read

  968. on from

  969. verse 8.

  970. Paul said

  971. three times

  972. I pleaded

  973. with the

  974. Lord to

  975. take it

  976. away from

  977. me.

  978. But he

  979. said to

  980. him,

  981. to me,

  982. my grace

  983. is sufficient

  984. for you,

  985. for my

  986. power is

  987. made perfect

  988. in weakness.

  989. It's not

  990. clear how

  991. long Paul

  992. had been

  993. living with

  994. the thorn

  995. in his

  996. flesh.

  997. The best

  998. estimate

  999. would be

  1000. about 14

  1001. years.

  1002. And the

  1003. way he

  1004. said that

  1005. the message

  1006. of Satan

  1007. to torment

  1008. him,

  1009. it seems

  1010. to be

  1011. indicating

  1012. it will

  1013. be

  1014. ongoing.

  1015. Even at

  1016. this point

  1017. of sharing

  1018. with the

  1019. Corinthian

  1020. church,

  1021. he's

  1022. feeling the

  1023. pain right

  1024. there and

  1025. then.

  1026. And that

  1027. feeling is

  1028. compounded by

  1029. what he's

  1030. already feeling

  1031. for the

  1032. Corinthian

  1033. church,

  1034. shown in

  1035. 1129.

  1036. Who is

  1037. weak?

  1038. And I do

  1039. not feel

  1040. weak.

  1041. Who is

  1042. led into

  1043. sin?

  1044. And I

  1045. do not

  1046. inwardly

  1047. burn.

  1048. I feel

  1049. very

  1050. challenged

  1051. recently

  1052. with a

  1053. few

  1054. sufferings

  1055. of

  1056. departure

  1057. and

  1058. loss.

  1059. On top

  1060. of that,

  1061. with the

  1062. ongoing

  1063. unrest in

  1064. Hong Kong,

  1065. combined it

  1066. with being

  1067. confronted

  1068. about not

  1069. being impartial

  1070. about this

  1071. issue,

  1072. and even

  1073. being unloving

  1074. towards what's

  1075. happening in

  1076. Hong Kong or

  1077. towards the

  1078. protesters.

  1079. And I

  1080. come to be

  1081. reminded of

  1082. my often

  1083. very patronizing

  1084. superiority

  1085. feeling towards

  1086. people during

  1087. a refreshing

  1088. in college.

  1089. And then

  1090. remembering

  1091. about 25

  1092. years ago,

  1093. a sister

  1094. stopped me

  1095. right in the

  1096. middle of

  1097. conversation

  1098. to tell me

  1099. stop patronizing

  1100. her.

  1101. I

  1102. consider those

  1103. as my

  1104. thorn in

  1105. my flesh,

  1106. a reminder

  1107. of how

  1108. sinful I

  1109. am.

  1110. We have

  1111. not been

  1112. told what

  1113. exactly the

  1114. thorn is

  1115. referring to

  1116. in this

  1117. passage.

  1118. It's good

  1119. we haven't

  1120. known it

  1121. because then

  1122. we can

  1123. freely relate

  1124. to Paul in

  1125. whatever way

  1126. we can.

  1127. But we

  1128. are shown

  1129. in how to

  1130. deal with

  1131. it.

  1132. As he

  1133. feels the

  1134. torment of

  1135. the thorn

  1136. in his

  1137. flesh,

  1138. as he

  1139. feels the

  1140. indignation

  1141. within his

  1142. heart,

  1143. Paul

  1144. recalls he

  1145. pleaded

  1146. with the

  1147. Lord.

  1148. Three times

  1149. he pleaded

  1150. with God

  1151. to take

  1152. the thorn

  1153. away.

  1154. His pain

  1155. and suffering

  1156. did not

  1157. drive him

  1158. to frustration

  1159. or despair.

  1160. It

  1161. drew him

  1162. closer to

  1163. God.

  1164. What is

  1165. your feeling

  1166. now?

  1167. Try to

  1168. relate to

  1169. Paul's

  1170. feeling in

  1171. whatever way

  1172. you can.

  1173. God

  1174. did not

  1175. change

  1176. Paul's

  1177. feeling

  1178. towards

  1179. God.

  1180. They

  1181. did not

  1182. make

  1183. Paul

  1184. doubt

  1185. the

  1186. ability

  1187. of

  1188. God.

  1189. He

  1190. knows

  1191. God

  1192. can

  1193. heal

  1194. him.

  1195. He

  1196. is

  1197. confident

  1198. that

  1199. God

  1200. can,

  1201. so he

  1202. asked

  1203. for

  1204. help.

  1205. And

  1206. what did

  1207. God

  1208. say to

  1209. him?

  1210. My

  1211. grace

  1212. is sufficient

  1213. for you,

  1214. for my

  1215. power is

  1216. made perfect

  1217. in

  1218. weakness.

1219. God has a much better and greater solution

1220. for Paul's pain and suffering

  1221. His grace

  1222. His sufficient grace

  1223. So what is grace?

1224. Grace is God giving us what we do not deserve

1225. We deserve to be punished

1226. but instead we got a gift of forgiveness

1227. in a real life that's filled with joy

1228. It is a gift because we cannot work for it or earn it

1229. Grace means God is not angry with us

1230. because His anger has been assaulted

1231. by the price of Jesus' life paid on the cross

1232. Christ lives a perfect obedience life

1233. and dies as a substitute for sinners

1234. to take away our guilt

  1235. Some have said grace

  1236. G-R-A-C-E

  1237. as God's riches

1238. are fallible at Christ's expense

  1239. God's riches

1240. are fallible at Christ's expense

  1241. God said

1242. My grace is sufficient for you

1243. for my power is made perfect in weakness

1244. Insufficient for Paul and for us

  1245. because God knows us

1246. He knows what we are going through

1247. God knows what we are going through

1248. in no matter what we are experiencing

1249. within our body or out of our body

1250. Insufficient because God's grace is never ending

1251. He knows exactly how much suffering we need

1252. to deal with our pride

1253. so to stop us from being considered

1254. And so others will think of us exactly

1255. as what we do and say warrant

  1256. God's grace is sufficient

  1257. God's grace is sufficient

  1258. and God is powerful

1259. so we can totally entrust ourselves to Him

  1260. and depend on Him

1261. even at the time that He did not answer our plea

  1262. as we have asked

  1263. My true talk experience

1264. had taught me a lesson of dependency

1265. I was already tired from all the pooling

  1266. before lunch

1267. and after lunch I think

1268. why would I be able to do a couple more courses

  1269. you know

1270. to make sure I get the full value

1271. of what I pay for

1272. So I come to this course

1273. What do you need to do?

1274. You swing over to a big net

1275. and once you swing over there

  1276. you climb up

1277. and then you just keep going

  1278. So you know

  1279. it looks easy

  1280. I'm still

  1281. I'm tired

  1282. but still okay

  1283. So I swing over

  1284. and what happened?

1285. I was at the bottom of the net

  1286. and now it's like

1287. pull and pull and pull

  1288. I just couldn't get up

  1289. whole body

  1290. just like

  1291. So after about

  1292. two to three minutes

  1293. which is the longest

  1294. two to three minutes

  1295. I have felt

1296. I did what everyone would do

1297. and did what the instruction tell me

  1298. Help!

  1299. I was dangling

  1300. waiting for help

1301. and I have to keep apologizing

  1302. people would say

  1303. oh sorry

  1304. sorry

1305. so they have to move on

  1306. to the next course

1307. Then the staff come to help me

1308. He was a young man

1309. and he was built like

1310. Tim Reed or Paul Powell

1311. both are not here today

1312. Built a bit like Jeff

1313. Would you mind standing up?

  1314. Imagine a young man

  1315. about that size

  1316. come and rescue me

  1317. I was so helpless

  1318. and embarrassed

  1319. that at this point

1320. any help I can get

1321. to get out of here

  1322. I'll accept it

  1323. That poor man

  1324. had struggled a lot

  1325. to finally lower me

  1326. down to the ground

1327. A nice tree top experience

  1328. had ended up

  1329. being a painful experience

1330. because I did not see

  1331. myself as weak

1332. And then I was humbled

1333. I was rescued by someone

  1334. that seems weak

1335. but know what he's doing

1336. and willing to go through

1337. the pain to set me free

  1338. First I say

1339. but he said to me

1340. My grace is sufficient for you

  1341. for my power

  1342. is made perfect

  1343. in weakness

  1344. Therefore

  1345. I will boast

  1346. all the more

  1347. gladly

  1348. about my weaknesses

  1349. so that Christ's power

  1350. may rest on me

  1351. That is why

  1352. for Christ's sake

  1353. I delight in weaknesses

  1354. in weaknesses

  1355. in weaknesses

  1356. Apparently we got a

  1357. weak battery as well

  1358. just dying

  1359. Paul is glad

  1360. that he can boast

  1361. about his weaknesses

  1362. He is glad

  1363. that God's power

  1364. is made perfect

  1365. in his weakness

  1366. and God's grace

  1367. is sufficient

1368. and do not leave him wanting

1369. It is for that reason

  1370. that he delights

  1371. in weaknesses

  1372. in insults

  1373. in hardship

  1374. in persecution

  1375. and in difficulties

  1376. He feels delighted

  1377. facing these things

  1378. that make us feel

  1379. cringing

  1380. when we hear it

  1381. How are we

  1382. to delight

  1383. in those things?

  1384. We'll be able

1385. to delight in those things

  1386. by boasting

  1387. all the more

  1388. gladly

  1389. about our own weaknesses

  1390. He delights in them

  1391. because

  1392. when he faces them

  1393. he's facing them

1394. for the sake of Christ

  1395. with Christ's power

  1396. rested on him

  1397. He delights in weakness

  1398. insults

  1399. hardship

  1400. persecution

  1401. and difficulties

  1402. was actually

  1403. what make him

  1404. strong

  1405. because when he

  1406. delights in them

  1407. God's perfect power

  1408. which is Christ's

  1409. perfect power

  1410. come rest on him

  1411. and he become

  1412. empowered

  1413. Poor at knowledge

  1414. he links God

  1415. He relies

  1416. He relies

  1417. only on God's
