  1. It's great to be with you again.

  2. My name is John Lau.

  3. I'm one of the interns here.

  4. We're in our second talk in the Book of Ruth.

  5. Last week, Steve, our senior minister,

  6. pointed out as Bethlehem, God's promised land,

  7. meaning the house of bread,

  8. suffered famine because they disobeyed God.

  9. A family went to Moab.

  10. They were planning to stay there for only a short while.

  11. But ended up staying for 10 years

  12. with their husband and the two sons died.

  13. Naomi, with her daughter-in-law, Ruth,

  14. had now come back to Bethlehem

  15. to be a refugee in her own country.

  16. They came back for a better life,

  17. looking for a place where they can have security,

  18. sympathy, and support.

  19. They found out that God knew they needed more than that,

  20. more than just a temporary refuge,

  21. and have a permanent refuge prepared for them in Boax.

  22. God also knew what we need in our life

  23. and has given us Jesus as a permanent refuge for us.

  24. Please have your Bible open to Ruth chapter 2.

    Ruth 2 chapter mention

  25. If you have access to our app,

  26. there will be an outline in there with my three points today,

  27. which is the refugees, the rich man, and the refuge.

  28. Naomi and Ruth came back to Bethlehem.

  29. The whole town was stirred because of them.

  30. The people welcomed them with a homecoming party,

  31. and the next day, Ruth said to Naomi in verse 2,

  32. Let me go to the field and pick up the leftovers.

  33. Leftover grain behind anyone whose eyes I find favor.

  34. I wonder where she got those ideas from,

  35. because she was referring to a system that God has set up

  36. to take care of all people in Leviticus,

  37. a system where during harvest,

  38. the harvester is not to go back to the field again.

  39. They are to leave leftovers for the poor and the foreigner.

  40. Maybe it was during the welcoming party

  41. that they had talked about it.

  42. Here and there is a system,

  43. but not confident about how it worked

  44. and not sure it was true or not.

  45. What would be the best action that Ruth can take?

  46. She got up and went out to try to find the answers.

  47. Last week, we saw Ruth's faithfulness shown through her loyalty to Naomi.

  48. This week, we will see a few more qualities of Ruth's faith.

  49. Firstly, she has a tried and tested faith.

  50. Faith is being sure of what we hope for

  51. and certain of what we do not see.

  52. Ruth's faith is a willingness to take a step into the unknown,

  53. even into what is seemingly dangerous and futile.

  54. Ruth could have been harmed, as Naomi later told us.

  55. But she went.

  56. Based on what she heard,

  57. Naomi did the same last week in Chapter 1,

  58. heading back to Bethlehem,

  59. based on hearing some good news.

  60. Most refugees also left because of some good news.

  61. They went to a foreign place,

  62. hoping for a better life,

  63. somewhat wild thing for their lives.

  64. Based on the information about what God had promised all people,

  65. Ruth went out looking for a way to sustain herself and Naomi.

  66. Had you stepped out into the unknown,

  67. into uncertainty, hoping for a better life?

  68. What was the promise that you were holding on to

  69. or trying to test out?

  70. How do you feel each step of the way?

  71. Let's see what happened to Ruth.

  72. She went to a field,

  73. and that very first field belongs to her relative, Boax.

  74. She asked the overseer to let her glean

  75. and gather among the sheaves behind the harvesters.

  76. And they let her.

  77. As she said to Naomi,

  78. she asked to follow along with the harvester.

  79. The system that God had set up

  80. was for the poor and foreigner

  81. to wait until the harvester finished for the day,

  82. then they can pick up the leftovers.

  83. But she seems to be doing all she can do

  84. to get to the best position,

  85. not waiting for the end of the day.

  86. Maybe her survival instinct kicks in.

  87. I believe trying to get to the best position

  88. is why so many refugees and their children

  89. do better in life in a new country.

  90. They knew what it means to survive,

  91. and they were willing to try.

  92. They were willing to ask questions

  93. that seem to be opportunistic

  94. or even offensive sometimes.

  95. If you want to be safe

  96. or stay alive,

  97. physically,

  98. but more importantly spiritually,

  99. we need to be sure

  100. that we are on the right way

  101. and the best way that we can get there

  102. and to ask questions and investigate.

  103. God did not just put her

  104. in the right field at the first try.

  105. God put her in the best field,

  106. experiencing his full kindness.

  107. Boaz allowed her to stay

  108. and get enough to take care of herself and Naomi.

  109. He did not rebuild the overseers

  110. and stop her from falling behind the harvester.

  111. Instead, he had a conversation with her

  112. that offered more than food for survival.

  113. He offered what a refugee would want,

  114. security,

  115. a chance to improve herself,

  116. recognition and approval,

  117. and most importantly, a refuge.

  118. God knows we need those things,

  119. and he used Boaz

  120. to give them to Ruth.

  121. In verse 10,

  122. at this,

  123. she bowed down with her face to the ground.

  124. She asked him,

  125. why have I found such favor in your eyes

  126. that you notice me,

  127. a foreigner?

  128. He explained it was because

  129. of the great things you had done for Naomi.

  130. He finished by saying in verse 12,

  131. may the Lord repay you

  132. for what you have done.

  133. may you be richly rewarded by the Lord,

  134. the God of Israel,

  135. under whose wings

  136. you have come to take refuge.

  137. Then she replied,

  138. saying in verse 13,

  139. may I continue to find favor

  140. in your eyes,

  141. my Lord.

  142. You have put me at ease

  143. by speaking kindly to your servant,

  144. though I do not have the standing

  145. of your servants.

  146. He just gave her a high praise.

  147. Instead of thinking of how great

  148. and worthy she is,

  149. not patting her on back

  150. for how much she had sacrificed for Naomi,

  151. Ruth acknowledged

  152. instead that

  153. Boaz

  154. and the God of Israel

  155. were far more important

  156. and far more significant.

  157. That brings me

  158. to the second quality

  159. that I want to highlight,

  160. is Ruth has a humble

  161. and realistic faith.

  162. She was humble

  163. because she acknowledged

  164. that there was someone

  165. more significant

  166. than herself.

  167. Ruth accepted her status

  168. as a foreigner

  169. or a servant

  170. who needed mercy

  171. from others.

  172. No matter how

  173. great her achievement was,

  174. she knew

  175. how she stands

  176. with others

  177. and with God,

  178. the ultimate provider.

  179. Ruth has an

  180. other-centered heart

  181. that keeps her humble.

  182. Knowing what she did

  183. for her mother-in-law

  184. was approved

  185. by everyone,

  186. but approval

  187. is not worth

  188. her motivation.

  189. She did it

  190. out of deep concern

  191. and deep care

  192. for Naomi.

  193. And her faith

  194. was realistic

  195. because Ruth

  196. gave Naomi

  197. the leftover

  198. after she had

  199. eaten enough.

  200. She did not

  201. let herself

  202. go hungry

  203. and unable to work.

  204. She ate as much

  205. as she needed

  206. to keep working.

  207. And at the end

  208. of the day,

  209. she collected

  210. a ether,

  211. which is

  212. 13 kilograms

  213. of grain.

  214. Ruth went out

  215. to confirm

  216. whether what she

  217. heard about God

  218. was real.

  219. She came back

  220. with food

  221. and a promise

  222. from Boax.

  223. God gave her

  224. something

  225. substantial

  226. and tangible

  227. to hold on to

  228. when she set out

  229. to find out

  230. if what people

  231. said about God

  232. was real.

  233. God gave her

  234. certainty

  235. in things

  236. that she could

  237. not see,

  238. not just

  239. for herself.

  240. God guided

  241. Ruth to

  242. experience

  243. his blessing

  244. and through

  245. her

  246. brought his

  247. blessing

  248. to Naomi.

  249. Often,

  250. when someone

  251. stepped out

  252. in faith,

  253. it would end

  254. up not just

  255. that person

  256. got to

  257. experience

  258. the greatness

  259. of God.

  260. they would

  261. bring blessing

  262. to those

  263. that needed

  264. the reassurance

  265. from God

  266. more than

  267. them.

  268. As Ruth

  269. went out,

  270. she got to

  271. experience

  272. God's word

  273. come true

  274. because God

  275. put her

  276. where she

  277. needed to

  278. be.

  279. But what

  280. about the

  281. other refugees?

  282. The other

  283. refugee in the

  284. story was

  285. Naomi.

  286. Back in

  287. verse 2,

  288. when she

  289. told Ruth,

  290. go ahead,

  291. my daughter.

  292. did she

  293. intend to

  294. join her?

  295. We could

  296. not be

  297. sure of

  298. the reason

  299. or the

  300. reason why

  301. she did

  302. not,

  303. but we

  304. knew she

  305. stayed at

  306. home.

  307. Ruth

  308. had such

  309. a great

  310. experience

  311. by going

  312. and God

  313. blessed her

  314. tremendously.

  315. Naomi did

  316. not go,

  317. but God

  318. still can

  319. bless her.

  320. God still

  321. can confirm

  322. what she

  323. believed

  324. about him.

  325. Naomi

  326. needed to

  327. restart

  328. on her

  329. faith

  330. journey

  331. after a

  332. series

  333. of

  334. family

  335. tragedies.

  336. God

  337. used a

  338. different

  339. way

  340. to

  341. open

  342. her

  343. eyes

  344. to

  345. his

  346. merciful

  347. purpose.

  348. As if

  349. God

  350. is saying,

  351. even if

  352. you don't

  353. leave the

  354. house,

  355. I will

  356. bring you

  357. the proof

  358. that I

  359. am who

  360. you have

  361. always

  362. believed

  363. me to

  364. be.

  365. When

  366. she saw

  367. Ruth with

  368. the grain

  369. in verse

  370. 20,

  371. she said,

  372. Naomi's

  373. faith

  374. towards

  375. God

  376. had a

  377. jump

  378. start.

  379. It was

  380. dead and

  381. had become

  382. back to

  383. life again.

  384. She saw

  385. the mercy

  386. of God

  387. because of

  388. Ruth.

  389. She was

  390. reconnected

  391. with God

  392. who had

  393. not stopped

  394. showing

  395. his

  396. kindness

  397. to her.

  398. Ruth.

  399. Those

  400. were the

  401. story of

  402. the

  403. refugees

  404. from

  405. Ruth.

  406. Now we

  407. look at

  408. the rich

  409. men.

  410. In

  411. first one,

  412. when he

  413. introduced

  414. Boaz,

  415. he said

  416. Boaz is

  417. a man

  418. of

  419. standing.

  420. What

  421. did he

  422. do to

  423. get such

  424. a title?

  425. A man

  426. of standing

  427. can mean

  428. a man

  429. of great

  430. wealth,

  431. but it

  432. also

  433. translates

  434. as a

  435. nobleman.

  436. Can

  437. this

  438. two

  439. coexist

  440. on

  441. someone?

  442. Can

  443. someone

  444. be a

  445. rich

  446. man?

  447. Can

  448. a rich

  449. man

  450. also

  451. be a

  452. nobleman

  453. at the

  454. same

  455. time?

  456. In

  457. first

  458. four,

  459. it

  460. says he

  461. came to

  462. the

  463. visit.

  464. What

  465. would you

  466. expect

  467. to see?

  468. Was

  469. he there

  470. to just

  471. check on

  472. his

  473. workers to

  474. make sure

  475. they

  476. meet their

  477. quotas for

  478. the day?

  479. Like many

  480. of our

  481. boss

  482. would do.

  483. Let's

  484. read on,

  485. it

  486. say when

  487. he came

  488. to visit,

  489. and when

  490. he arrived,

  491. he greeted

  492. the harvesters,

  493. the Lord

  494. be with

  495. you,

  496. and the

  497. Lord

  498. blessed

  499. you,

  500. they

  501. answered.

  502. I can

  503. only imagine

  504. from this

  505. interaction

  506. that they

  507. have excellent

  508. relationship.

  509. Then no one

  510. when he

  511. arrived

  512. ran away.

  513. And he

  514. seems to

  515. know his

  516. workers enough

  517. to notice a

  518. new young

  519. woman was

  520. working in

  521. the field.

  522. after he

  523. had spoken

  524. to the

  525. overseer,

  526. Boaz

  527. spoke to

  528. Ruth.

  529. In a

  530. conversation,

  531. he told

  532. her to

  533. drink from

  534. the water

  535. jar if

  536. she got

  537. thirsty.

  538. It's

  539. said in

  540. verse 14,

  541. at mealtime,

  542. Boaz

  543. said to

  544. her,

  545. come over

  546. here,

  547. have some

  548. bread and

  549. dip it

  550. into the

  551. wine vinegar.

  552. When she

  553. sat down

  554. with the

  555. harvester,

  556. he offered

  557. her some

  558. roast grain.

  559. He

  560. seems

  561. genuinely

  562. kind and

  563. not anything

  564. we would

  565. expect from

  566. a boss.

  567. I guess

  568. Boaz's

  569. daily life

  570. could be

  571. like this.

  572. Get up

  573. in the

  574. morning,

  575. make bread,

  576. go to

  577. a well,

  578. get the

  579. water.

  580. When

  581. everything's

  582. ready,

  583. he'll head

  584. out to

  585. the field

  586. to get

  587. there just

  588. before

  589. lunchtime.

  590. When he

  591. gets there,

  592. he grates

  593. everyone,

  594. and then

  595. seeing what

  596. they have

  597. to harvest,

  598. he get

  599. the barbecue

  600. cranking,

  601. and then

  602. start roasting

  603. grain,

  604. and when

  605. everything's

  606. ready,

  607. he'll tell

  608. everyone to

  609. stop work,

  610. come and

  611. eat.

  612. He'll hand

  613. out the

  614. food to

  615. everyone

  616. to eat

  617. together.

  618. When he

  619. told Ruth

  620. to drink

  621. from the

  622. jars,

  623. I think

  624. it's because

  625. he actually

  626. just brought

  627. the water

  628. there,

  629. so he

  630. know where

  631. the jars

  632. is,

  633. and he

  634. offered

  635. those

  636. water

  637. to her.

  638. When he

  639. offered

  640. the

  641. roast

  642. grain

  643. to

  644. Ruth,

  645. as if

  646. he was

  647. just

  648. handing

  649. it out,

  650. if Ruth

  651. joined

  652. the man

  653. alone

  654. to eat,

  655. it would

  656. be very

  657. awkward.

  658. So every

  659. man and

  660. woman

  661. must be

  662. eating

  663. together

  664. already.

  665. And after

  666. lunchtime,

  667. he stayed

  668. and worked

  669. with them,

  670. because Ruth

  671. said to

  672. Naomi in

  673. verse 19,

  674. the name

  675. of the

  676. man I

  677. work with

  678. today is

  679. Boaz.

  680. Boaz was

  681. such a

  682. kind and

  683. merciful man,

  684. kind and

  685. merciful person.

  686. We will

  687. see more

  688. of what he

  689. does for

  690. Ruth next

  691. week.

  692. he

  693. exhibited

  694. someone

  695. greater

  696. than

  697. himself

  698. as he

  699. took care

  700. of others

  701. that were

  702. in need.

  703. He let

  704. God use

  705. him as

  706. a refuge

  707. to

  708. refugees

  709. that

  710. needed to

  711. experience

  712. God's

  713. kindness

  714. and God

  715. working

  716. in their

  717. life.

  718. For

  719. some,

  720. it should

  721. provide

  722. physical

  723. need,

  724. others

  725. spiritually.

  726. For

  727. some,

  728. a

  729. journey

  730. starter

  731. of

  732. their

  733. faith

  734. and

  735. for

  736. others

  737. maybe

  738. like

  739. a

  740. jump

  741. start

  742. to

  743. get

  744. their

  745. faith

  746. going

  747. again.

  748. Boaz

  749. was a

  750. refuge

  751. to

  752. all

  753. the

  754. refugees.

  755. So

  756. my

  757. question

  758. for

  759. you

  760. is

  761. what

  762. about

  763. Boaz?

  764. Would

  765. the rich

  766. man

  767. like

  768. Boaz,

  769. a man

  770. of standing,

  771. need a

  772. refuge

  773. too?

  774. What

  775. kind of

  776. refuge

  777. would he

  778. need?

  779. What

  780. kind of

  781. refuge

  782. would

  783. you

  784. and

  785. me

  786. need?

  787. There

  788. are only

  789. two kinds

  790. of

  791. refuge,

  792. a

  793. permanent

  794. one

  795. and a

  796. temporary

  797. one.

  798. A

  799. temporary

  800. one

  801. is like

  802. what we

  803. saw in

  804. Ruth

  805. chapter

  806. one,

  807. the

  808. country

  809. of

  810. Moab.

  811. In

  812. Ruth

  813. chapter

  814. one,

  815. one,

  816. a

  817. limonet

  818. took his

  819. family to

  820. Moab

  821. to leave

  822. for a

  823. while

  824. during

  825. the

  826. famine.

  827. He

  828. might

  829. think

  830. to go

  831. there

  832. to

  833. ride

  834. out

  835. the

  836. famine.

  837. After

  838. all,

  839. Moab

  840. was

  841. only

  842. on

  843. the

  844. other

  845. side

  846. of

  847. the

  848. sea.

  849. But

  850. what

  851. happened

  852. when he

  853. got

  854. there?

  855. He

  856. died.

  857. Then

  858. his

  859. two

  860. sons,

  861. Marlon

  862. and

  863. Kilion,

  864. married

  865. more

  866. by

  867. woman.

  868. Why

  869. didn't

  870. they

  871. go

  872. back

  873. when

  874. their

  875. father

  876. died?

  877. Would

  878. it

  879. be

  880. because

  881. Bethlehem

  882. was

  883. still

  884. in

  885. famine?

  886. Maybe

  887. they

  888. had

  889. good

  890. lives.

  891. You

  892. know,

  893. Marlon

  894. married

  895. Ruth,

  896. Cleland

  897. married

  898. Oprah.

  899. Both

  900. daughters-in-law

  901. got along

  902. well with

  903. their

  904. mother-in-law.

  905. Your spouse

  906. got along

  907. well with

  908. your

  909. partners

  910. or

  911. parents.

  912. What more

  913. could we

  914. want?

  915. I guess

  916. for someone

  917. that would

  918. be

  919. closer to

  920. experiencing

  921. heaven on

  922. earth.

  923. But

  924. what

  925. followed?

  926. Marlon

  927. and

  928. Cleland

  929. died

  930. also.

  931. There

  932. was a

  933. system

  934. established

  935. in

  936. Israel

  937. to

  938. look

  939. after

  940. the

  941. poor

  942. and

  943. we

  944. have

  945. a

  946. man

  947. of

  948. standing

  949. like

  950. Boax.

  951. Why

  952. did

  953. Elimelech

  954. still

  955. decide

  956. to go

  957. to

  958. Moab?

  959. I

  960. wonder

  961. would

  962. it

  963. be

  964. because

  965. he

  966. had

  967. the

  968. mean

  969. to

  970. move

  971. his

  972. family

  973. over

  974. to

  975. Moab

  976. and

  977. did

  978. not

  979. want

  980. to

  981. use

  982. his

  983. wealth

  984. to

  985. help

  986. others.

  987. If

  988. he

  989. followed

  990. God's

  991. requirement

  992. in

  993. Ephesians

  994. to

  995. help

  996. his

  997. fellow

  998. Israelites

  999. so

  1000. they

  1001. can

  1002. continue

  1003. to

  1004. live,

  1005. his

  1006. wealth

  1007. could

  1008. disappear

  1009. in

  1010. matters

  1011. of

  1012. days.

  1013. He

  1014. could

  1015. not

  1016. impoverish

  1017. his

  1018. own

  1019. family

  1020. to

  1021. sustain

  1022. his

  1023. fellow

  1024. Israelites.

  1025. The

  1026. Lord

  1027. also

  1028. said

  1029. when

  1030. they

  1031. lent

  1032. to

  1033. their

  1034. fellow

  1035. Israelites

  1036. they

  1037. could

  1038. not

  1039. charge

  1040. interest

  1041. which

  1042. is

  1043. in

  1044. Ephesians

  1045. 25

  1046. 35

  1047. to

  1048. 37.

  1049. I

  1050. own

  1051. a

  1052. business

  1053. and

  1054. have

  1055. some

  1056. savings

  1057. as

  1058. well.

  1059. What

  1060. Unlimit

  1061. did

  1062. with

  1063. his

  1064. moving

  1065. was

  1066. the

  1067. most

  1068. sensible

  1069. thing

  1070. to

  1071. do

  1072. for

  1073. a

  1074. businessman.

  1075. It's

  1076. only

  1077. for a

  1078. short

  1079. time.

  1080. Let

  1081. other

  1082. people

  1083. help

  1084. do

  1085. the

  1086. helping

  1087. first.

  1088. He

  1089. might

  1090. have

  1091. thought

  1092. if I

  1093. stay

  1094. in

  1095. Bethlehem

  1096. I

  1097. cannot

  1098. charge

  1099. interest

  1100. or make

  1101. any

  1102. profit

  1103. from

  1104. helping

  1105. others.

  1106. Which

  1107. is

  1108. the

  1109. best

  1110. time

  1111. to

  1112. make

  1113. profit.

  1114. You

  1115. know

  1116. when

  1117. people

  1118. are

  1119. down

  1120. and

  1121. out

  1122. you

  1123. can

  1124. exploit

  1125. them

  1126. for

  1127. their

  1128. situation.

  1129. He

  1130. might

  1131. say

  1132. I

  1133. may

  1134. as

  1135. well

  1136. go

  1137. to

  1138. Moab.

  1139. The

  1140. country

  1141. of

  1142. Moab

  1143. is a

  1144. place

  1145. of

  1146. foreign

  1147. God.

  1148. Their

  1149. God

  1150. will

  1151. have

  1152. better

  1153. business

  1154. sense.

  1155. I

  1156. wonder

  1157. would

  1158. those

  1159. be the

  1160. reason

  1161. Eliminate

  1162. moved to

  1163. Moab.

  1164. But I

  1165. was

  1166. convicted

  1167. that I

  1168. could think

  1169. of so

  1170. many

  1171. justifications

  1172. for

  1173. Eliminate

  1174. because I

  1175. have been

  1176. living like

  1177. him.

  1178. I

  1179. have

  1180. been

  1181. justifying

  1182. all

  1183. my

  1184. words

  1185. and

  1186. deeds

  1187. to

  1188. make

  1189. sure

  1190. I

  1191. look

  1192. righteous

  1193. in

  1194. the

  1195. eyes

  1196. of

  1197. others.

  1198. No

  1199. one

  1200. had

  1201. any

  1202. terrible

  1203. things

  1204. to say

  1205. about

  1206. me.

  1207. They

  1208. may

  1209. have

  1210. some

  1211. inkling

  1212. here

  1213. and

  1214. there.

  1215. But

  1216. overall,

  1217. John

  1218. Lyle

  1219. is

  1220. very

  1221. hard

  1222. working,

  1223. nice,

  1224. a rich

  1225. man,

  1226. who

  1227. is

  1228. faithful,

  1229. loyal,

  1230. and

  1231. humble.

  1232. But

  1233. God

  1234. had

  1235. been

  1236. telling

  1237. me

  1238. again

  1239. that

  1240. I

  1241. am

  1242. not.

  1243. Unlike

  1244. Ruth

  1245. and

  1246. Boax,

  1247. I

  1248. live

  1249. for

  1250. my

  1251. own

  1252. reputation

  1253. instead

  1254. of

  1255. the

  1256. life

  1257. of

  1258. others.

  1259. I

  1260. keep

  1261. a

  1262. smiling

  1263. face

  1264. instead

  1265. of being

  1266. honest

  1267. with

  1268. myself

  1269. and

  1270. God

  1271. and

  1272. be

  1273. broken

  1274. like

  1275. Naomi.

  1276. I

  1277. am

  1278. righteous

  1279. in

  1280. my

  1281. own

  1282. eyes,

  1283. always

  1284. comparing

  1285. myself

  1286. with

  1287. others,

  1288. looking

  1289. for

  1290. loopholes

  1291. in

  1292. God's

  1293. requirement

  1294. to do

  1295. the

  1296. bare

  1297. minimum

  1298. to

  1299. gain

  1300. praise

  1301. and

  1302. approval.

  1303. I

  1304. do

  1305. not

  1306. live

  1307. as

  1308. I

  1309. am

  1310. a

  1311. foreigner

  1312. or

  1313. refugee

  1314. on

  1315. this

  1316. earth.

  1317. I

  1318. live

  1319. like

  1320. an

  1321. eminent

  1322. as

  1323. I

  1324. am

  1325. the

  1326. king

  1327. of

  1328. my

  1329. own

  1330. life.

  1331. Whatever

  1332. is

  1333. our

  1334. most

  1335. sensible

  1336. solution

  1337. to

  1338. what

  1339. we

  1340. are

  1341. facing

  1342. will

  1343. most

  1344. likely

  1345. be

  1346. our

  1347. temporary

  1348. refuge.

  1349. And it

  1350. could lead

  1351. to

  1352. death.

  1353. Our

  1354. most

  1355. sensible

  1356. option,

  1357. our

  1358. intention,

  1359. no matter

  1360. how

  1361. justifiable

  1362. they were,

  1363. are tainted

  1364. by our

  1365. own sinful

  1366. nature.

  1367. They

  1368. will

  1369. always

  1370. end up

  1371. glorifying

  1372. ourselves

  1373. instead

  1374. of God.

  1375. That is

  1376. the challenge

  1377. I face

  1378. and the

  1379. challenge

  1380. I have

  1381. been

  1382. convicted.

  1383. Paul

  1384. says in

  1385. the New

  1386. Testament

  1387. Corinthians

  1388. 15

  1389. verse

  1390. 56

  1391. that

  1392. the

  1393. state

  1394. of

  1395. death

  1396. is

  1397. sin

  1398. and

  1399. the

  1400. power

  1401. of

  1402. sin

  1403. is

  1404. the

  1405. law.

  1406. Eliminate

  1407. and his

  1408. two

  1409. sons

  1410. died

  1411. after

  1412. they

  1413. went

  1414. to a

  1415. temporary

  1416. refuge

  1417. which

  1418. became

  1419. their

  1420. permanent

  1421. grace.

  1422. we

  1423. were

  1424. not

  1425. told

  1426. the

  1427. exact

  1428. cause

  1429. of

  1430. their

  1431. death

  1432. but

  1433. one

  1434. thing

  1435. we

  1436. saw

  1437. they

  1438. died

  1439. while

  1440. they

  1441. were

  1442. out

  1443. of

  1444. the

  1445. promised

  1446. land.

  1447. But

  1448. what

  1449. about

  1450. Naomi,

  1451. Ruth,

  1452. and

  1453. Boax

  1454. who

  1455. were

  1456. inside

  1457. God's

  1458. promised

  1459. land?

  1460. Did

  1461. they

  1462. escape

  1463. death?

  1464. The

  1465. fact

  1466. that

  1467. we

  1468. are

  1469. reading

  1470. their

  1471. name

  1472. in

  1473. biblical

  1474. history

  1475. shows

  1476. that

  1477. they

  1478. did

  1479. not.

  1480. None

  1481. of us

  1482. can.

  1483. this

  1484. body

  1485. that

  1486. we

  1487. are

  1488. in

  1489. is

  1490. temporary,

  1491. is

  1492. not

  1493. permanent,

  1494. and

  1495. we

  1496. will

  1497. all

  1498. have

  1499. to

  1500. die

  1501. one

  1502. day.

  1503. We

  1504. all

  1505. need

  1506. a

  1507. permanent

  1508. refuge

  1509. that

  1510. only

  1511. the

  1512. one

  1513. conquered

  1514. death

  1515. can

  1516. give.

  1517. And

  1518. the

  1519. one

  1520. person

  1521. ever

  1522. conquered

  1523. death

  1524. was

  1525. Jesus

  1526. Christ.

  1527. He

  1528. came

  1529. from

  1530. the

  1531. little

  1532. town

  1533. of

  1534. Bethlehem

  1535. and

  1536. we

  1537. got

  1538. to meet

  1539. Jesus

  1540. through

  1541. Boak's

  1542. words

  1543. and

  1544. deeds.

  1545. When

  1546. he

  1547. greeted

  1548. the

  1560. means

  1561. God

  1562. is

  1563. with

  1564. us.

  1565. When

  1566. he

  1567. took

  1568. notice

  1569. and

  1570. knew

  1571. all

  1572. his

  1573. workers,

  1574. Jesus

  1575. our

  1576. shepherd

  1577. knows

  1578. all

  1579. his

  1581. When

  1582. he

  1583. told

  1584. Ruth

  1585. to

  1586. listen

  1587. and

  1588. not

  1589. be

  1590. afraid,

  1591. Jesus

  1592. said

  1593. the

  1594. same

  1595. thing

  1596. on

  1597. many

  1598. occasions.

  1599. He

  1600. told

  1601. her

  1602. to

  1603. drink

  1604. the

  1605. water

  1606. if

  1607. she

  1608. is

  1609. thirsty.

  1610. Jesus

  1611. told

  1612. the

  1613. woman

  1614. by

  1615. the

  1616. well,

  1617. he

  1618. is

  1619. the

  1620. living

  1621. water

  1622. that

  1623. will

  1624. cringe

  1625. her

  1626. thirst.

  1627. He

  1628. offered,

  1629. Boaz

  1630. offered

  1631. Ruth

  1632. food

  1633. that

  1634. was

  1635. more

  1636. than

  1637. satisfied

  1638. her.

  1639. Jesus

  1640. provided

  1641. food

  1642. to

  1643. thousands

  1644. and

  1645. they

  1646. ate

  1647. and

  1648. they

  1649. were

  1650. leftovers.

  1651. And

  1652. he

  1653. said,

  1654. I

  1655. came

  1656. to

  1657. give

  1658. life

  1659. and

  1660. give

  1661. it

  1662. to

  1663. the

  1664. food.

  1665. Boaz

  1666. gave

  1673. On

  1674. the

  1675. night

  1676. before

  1677. Jesus'

  1679. he

  1680. took

  1681. bread

  1682. and

  1683. dipped

  1684. it

  1685. in

  1686. wine

  1687. to

  1688. hand

  1689. to

  1690. his

  1691. disciples

  1692. and

  1693. told

  1694. them

  1695. to

  1696. keep

  1697. remembering

  1698. what

  1699. he

  1700. had

  1701. done

  1702. by

  1703. going

  1704. to

  1705. the

  1706. cross

  1707. to

  1708. pay

  1709. the

  1710. penalty

  1711. of

  1712. their

  1713. sins.

  1714. Boaz's

  1715. last

  1716. word

  1717. was

  1718. stay

  1719. with

  1720. my

  1721. workers

  1722. until

  1723. they

  1724. finish

  1725. harvesting

  1726. all

  1727. my

  1728. grain.

  1729. Jesus'

  1730. words

  1731. recorded

  1732. in

  1733. 9

  1734. verse

  1735. 37

  1736. to

  1737. 38

  1738. God

  1739. gave

  1740. Ruth

  1741. her

  1742. faith

  1743. so

  1744. she

  1745. will

  1746. help

  1747. Naomi

  1748. to

  1749. restore

  1750. her

  1751. faith.

  1752. God

  1753. gave

  1754. Boaz

  1755. plentiful

  1756. so

  1757. he

  1758. can

  1759. help

  1760. others

  1761. in

  1762. great

  1763. needs.

  1764. Jesus

  1765. came

  1766. to

  1767. bear

  1768. our

  1769. sin

  1770. to

  1771. die

  1772. in

  1773. our

  1774. place

  1775. so

  1776. that

  1777. we

  1778. can

  1779. be

  1780. in

  1781. God's

  1782. permanent

  1783. refuge.

  1784. He

  1785. did

  1786. not

  1787. save

  1788. you

  1789. just

  1790. for

  1791. yourself.

  1792. He

  1793. saved

  1794. you

  1795. so

  1796. you

  1797. can

  1798. be

  1799. a

  1800. fisher

  1801. of

  1802. men

  1803. to

  1804. bring

  1805. salvation

  1806. to

  1807. all

  1808. corners

  1809. of

  1810. the

  1811. earth.

  1812. Will

  1813. you

  1814. be

  1815. his

  1816. workers

  1817. to

  1818. the

  1819. harvest

  1820. field?

  1821. To

  1822. be

  1823. with

  1824. Jesus

  1825. is

  1826. not

  1827. just

  1828. about

  1829. where

  1830. we

  1831. go

  1832. after

  1833. we

  1834. die.

  1835. It's

  1836. about

  1837. having

  1838. a

  1839. permanent

  1840. refuge

  1841. in

  1842. our

  1843. heart

  1844. where

  1845. our

  1846. life

  1847. is

  1848. being

  1849. renewed

  1850. every

  1851. day

  1852. where

  1853. we

  1854. no

  1855. longer

  1856. need

  1857. to

  1858. be

  1859. afraid

  1860. we

  1861. experience

  1862. what

  1863. it

  1864. means

  1865. to

  1866. live

  1867. to

  1868. the

  1869. fool.

  1870. We

  1871. got

  1872. to

  1873. live

  1874. our

  1875. life

  1876. where

  1877. we

  1878. are

  1879. confident

  1880. of

  1881. God's

  1882. everlasting

  1883. kindness

  1884. to

  1885. us

  1886. where

  1887. happiness

  1888. and joy

  1889. will

  1890. never

  1891. cease.

  1892. We

  1893. read

  1894. earlier

  1895. in

  1896. John

  1897. 14

  1898. 1

  1899. Jesus

  1900. said

  1901. do

  1902. not

  1903. let

  1904. your

  1905. hearts

  1906. be

  1907. troubled.

  1908. You

  1909. believe

  1910. in

  1911. God

  1912. believe

  1913. also

  1914. in

  1915. me.

  1916. My

  1917. father's

  1918. house

  1919. has

  1920. many

  1921. rooms.

  1922. If

  1923. that

  1924. were

  1925. not

  1926. so

  1927. would

  1928. I

  1929. have

  1930. told

  1931. you

  1932. that

  1933. I

  1934. am

  1935. going

  1936. there

  1937. to

  1938. prepare

  1939. a

  1940. place

  1941. for

  1942. you.

  1943. And

  1944. if

  1945. I

  1946. go

  1947. and

  1948. prepare

  1949. a

  1950. place

  1951. for

  1952. you

  1953. I

  1954. will

  1955. come

  1956. back

  1957. and

  1958. take

  1959. you

  1960. to be

  1961. with

  1962. me

  1963. that

  1964. you

  1965. also

  1966. may

  1967. be

  1968. there

  1969. where

  1970. I

  1971. how

  1972. have

  1973. you

  1974. been

  1975. living

  1976. your

  1977. life?

  1978. Are

  1979. you

  1980. feeling

  1981. uncertain

  1982. about

  1983. your

  1984. future?

  1985. Are

  1986. you

  1987. suffering

  1988. the

  1989. consequence

  1990. of

  1991. your

  1992. sins

  1993. of

  1994. disobedience?

  1995. Have

  1996. you

  1997. been

  1998. holding

  1999. back

  2000. on

  2001. using

  2002. what

  2003. God

  2004. has

  2005. given

  2006. you

  2007. for

  2008. the

  2009. goods

  2010. of

  2011. others?

  2012. God

  2013. has

  2014. offered

  2015. us

  2016. Jesus

  2017. as

  2018. our

  2019. permanent

  2020. refuge

  2021. where

  2022. we

  2023. can

  2024. call

  2025. home.

  2026. He

  2027. has

  2028. not

  2029. stopped

  2030. showing

  2031. his

  2032. kindness

  2033. to

  2034. the

  2035. living

  2036. and

  2037. the

  2038. dead.

  2039. So

  2040. come

  2041. to

  2042. Jesus.

  2043. Come

  2044. and

  2045. stay

  2046. with

  2047. our

  2048. merciful

  2049. God.

  2050. Let

  2051. God

  2052. take

  2053. you

  2054. to

  2055. where

  2056. he

  2057. wants

  2058. you

  2059. to

  2060. be.

  2061. Let

  2062. God

  2063. use

  2064. you

  2065. to

  2066. show

  2067. his

  2068. merciful

  2069. kindness

  2070. to

  2071. those

  2072. who

  2073. need

  2074. it

  2075. most.
