  1. Morning, church.

  2. Let's pray.

  3. Lord, you know the deep places

  4. through which our life must go.

  5. Help us when we enter them

  6. to lift our hearts to you.

  7. Help us to be patient when we are afflicted,

  8. to be humble when we are in distress,

  9. and grant that the hope of your mercy

  10. may never fail us,

  11. and the consciousness of your loving kindness

  12. may never be crowded or hidden from our sight.

  13. Through Jesus Christ, your Son, our Lord. Amen.

  14. Greetings, and I'm glad that you can join us today,

  15. especially if you're joining us online.

  16. If this is your first time tuning in to our live stream

  17. or gathering with us here,

  18. we have been studying over the last few weeks

  19. the topic of lament

  20. from the book of Lamentation

  21. and Psalms in the Old Testament of the Bible.

  22. So have you heard of the term lament?

  23. When someone says he or she is lamenting,

  24. what exactly are they doing?

  25. If today is not your first time with us,

  26. and you have journeyed with us

  27. and with the writer of Psalms and Lamentation,

  28. have you practiced any laments in the last few weeks?

  29. James, the brother of Jesus,

  30. wrote us in his letter in the New Testament

  31. from chapter 1, verse 22.

  32. James 1, verse 22 says,

    James 1:22

  33. Do not merely listen to the word

  34. and so deceive yourself.

  35. Do what it says.

  36. Anyone who listens to the word

  37. but does not do what it says

  38. is like someone who looks at his face in a mirror

  39. and after looking at himself,

  40. goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like.

  41. But whoever looks intently into the perfect law

  42. that gives freedom and continues in it,

  43. not forgetting what they have heard,

  44. but doing it,

  45. they will be blessed in what they do.

  46. James warn us that

  47. if we listen to God's word

  48. but take no action

  49. in practicing what we hurt,

  50. we are deceiving ourselves.

  51. We are deceiving ourselves

  52. into thinking that we are right with God

  53. when we are not.

  54. If we take no action,

  55. our faith is a shame

  56. and will have devastating consequences

  57. for our life now

  58. and our eternal destiny.

  59. If we merely listen to God's word

  60. but do not do what it says,

  61. it's like someone who looks into a mirror.

  62. The mirror that James referred to

  63. is not the same that we use now,

  64. but the one that make with polished copper or bronze,

  65. which does not give a good impression

  66. to someone who only take a glance of it.

  67. It will take a considerable amount of time

  68. to work out what you look like with them.

  69. What we see in a mirror

  70. is meant to lead us into action.

  71. For someone who might be a bit more confident

  72. with their image,

  73. looking in the mirror

  74. will lead them to more admiration of themselves.

  75. They will stop at every mirror

  76. and not just making sure they look okay,

  77. but they will admire themselves

  78. and say,

  79. oh, why do I look so handsome?

  80. Oh, I look so perfect.

  81. But for general people,

  82. the action is usually corrective,

  83. such as a dirty face that needs to be washed.

  84. The only reason that you can walk away

  85. and immediately forget what you look like

  86. would be because you utterly regret

  87. the fault you saw or discovered

  88. and instantly forget what you have seen.

  89. It's ludicrous to have checked your face in the mirror

  90. or hear God's words

  91. and rapidly ignore and forget what you have heard.

  92. It's absurd for someone who belongs to God

  93. or call themselves a Christian,

  94. a follower of Christ,

  95. to be so cavalier towards God's word.

  96. So let's repent together

  97. and turn towards God

  98. like how the book of Lamentation finished

  99. at chapter 5, verse 21 and 22

  100. by praying,

  101. restore us to yourself, Lord,

  102. that we might return.

  103. Renew our days as of old

  104. unless you have utterly rejected us

  105. and are angry with us beyond measure.

  106. Suppose you are not yet a believer

  107. or follower of Christ

  108. or follower of the biblical God

  109. who created this world

  110. and you and me.

  111. Lamenting is part and partial of the Bible,

  112. the word of God.

  113. It is also part and partial of a Christian life.

  114. God encourages us, his follower,

  115. to join him in lamenting

  116. over the fallen situation

  117. of his created world.

  118. To lament is to know God.

  119. So let's together,

  120. online, in person,

  121. believe it or not yet,

  122. look at what, why,

  123. and how to lament today.

  124. So what is lament?

  125. Lament is a declaration

  126. of the struggles and sufferings

  127. you are experiencing

  128. directly to God

  129. with honesty

  130. and in a God-honoring way.

  131. I've been reading

  132. a book by Gordon Wynham

  133. named

  134. The Soldiers Reclaimed,

  135. Praying and Praising with the Psalms.

  136. He commented that

  137. lament is a prayer to God

  138. for delivery

  139. from Christ

  140. regarding enemies,

  141. defeats in battle,

  142. and a life-threatening illness.

  143. These prayers of lament

  144. are written and collected

  145. in the Psalms and lamentation

  146. of the Bible.

  147. In this crisis situation,

  148. the person lamenting

  149. often seems to think

  150. that God has deserted them.

  151. almost half of the 150 Psalms

  152. are lament Psalms.

  153. Usually,

  154. the most common format

  155. is complaint,

  156. with a cry for help

  157. and description of distress.

  158. Petition,

  159. with an appeal to God

  160. and reason for divine intervention.

  161. And praise,

  162. that ends on a note of certainty

  163. that prayer has been heard

  164. and a vow

  165. to praise God

  166. for deliveries.

  167. So the usual pattern

  168. for lament

  169. is complain,

  170. petition,

  171. and praise.

  172. Like the Psalm

  173. we just read out

  174. by Vivian,

  175. Psalm 13,

  176. it goes like this,

  177. How long, Lord,

  178. will you forget me forever?

  179. How long

  180. will you hide your face from me?

  181. How long

  182. must I wrestle

  183. with my thoughts

  184. and day after day

  185. have sorrow in my heart?

  186. How long

  187. will my enemy

  188. triumph over me?

  189. Look on me

  190. and answer,

  191. Lord my God.

  192. Give light to my eyes

  193. or I will sleep in death.

  194. And my enemy

  195. will say,

  196. I have overcome him.

  197. And my foes rejoice

  198. when I fall.

  199. The Psalmist

  200. was in real trouble.

  201. His enemy

  202. were attacking him

  203. and he doubt

  204. whether God

  205. still cared

  206. for him.

  207. He worried

  208. that his enemy

  209. will realize

  210. how shaky

  211. his faith is

  212. and will go

  213. over the loss

  214. of faith.

  215. But like most men,

  216. Psalm 13

  217. suddenly changed key,

  218. ending on a note

  219. of confidence

  220. and praise

  221. in verse 5.

  222. But I trust

  223. in your unfailing love.

  224. My heart

  225. rejoiced

  226. in your salvation.

  227. I will sing

  228. the Lord's praise

  229. for he has been

  230. good to me.

  231. Though the man

  232. usually ends

  233. on a note of hope,

  234. several do not.

  235. Though at some point

  236. they may express hope,

  237. the Psalmist

  238. sometimes referred

  239. to a despair

  240. at the end.

  241. His glamour

  242. of hope

  243. seems extinguished.

  244. and it is

  245. at this point,

  246. at those dark

  247. points,

  248. that God's

  249. steadfast love

  250. will shine

  251. through

  252. to prove

  253. his faithfulness

  254. to us.

  255. So some of you

  256. might question

  257. whether it's

  258. appropriate

  259. for Christians

  260. to lament

  261. and some of us

  262. did ask that.

  263. Can Christians

  264. use such sound?

  265. Shall we not

  266. be giving thanks

  267. in all circumstances?

  268. Are such songs

  269. appropriate

  270. to people of faith,

  271. particularly for use

  272. in public worship?

  273. So why do we lament?

  274. Lament lines up

  275. our thoughts

  276. about our situation

  277. with God's plans

  278. for us

  279. and this world.

  280. Lament

  281. turns and

  282. tunes

  283. our heart

  284. to the hurt

  285. and anger

  286. of God

  287. towards

  288. our

  289. mentality

  290. towards

  291. him

  292. and his

  293. word.

  294. Lament

  295. drives us

  296. to action

  297. which often

  298. involves

  299. confession

  300. and repentance.

  301. So lament

  302. brings our

  303. heart,

  304. our heart,

  305. our head

  306. and our hands

  307. together

  308. to glorify God.

  309. Christians

  310. should be

  311. lamenting

  312. together

  313. or quote

  314. psalms

  315. that is

  316. written

  317. for lament

  318. because

  319. lament

  320. are most

  321. quoted

  322. in the

  323. New Testament.

  324. Psalm 22

  325. and 69

  326. are the two

  327. most quoted

  328. psalms

  329. by all the

  330. writers

  331. of the

  332. New Testament.

  333. Psalm 69

  334. was quoted

  335. in the book

  336. of John,

  337. in the book

  338. of Acts

  339. and Romans.

  340. Christians,

  341. a follower

  342. of Christ

  343. should lament

  344. because of

  345. Christ

  346. we follow

  347. Jesus,

  348. pray

  349. Psalm 22

  350. on the cross

  351. and Psalm 31

  352. just before

  353. he died.

  354. On the night

  355. before he

  356. rests,

  357. he would have

  358. been singing

  359. a few

  360. lament psalms

  361. with his

  362. disciples.

  363. So,

  364. we should

  365. lament

  366. or use

  367. the psalms

  368. of lament

  369. because

  370. our

  371. Christ

  372. was

  373. the one

  374. that using

  375. it.

  376. Christians

  377. in today's

  378. society

  379. get nervous

  380. when we

  381. come across

  382. a sentence

  383. like,

  384. how long

  385. Lord

  386. will you

  387. forget me

  388. forever?

  389. How long

  390. will you

  391. hide your

  392. face from

  393. me?

  394. Because

  395. this kind

  396. of sentence

  397. counters

  398. our culture

  399. of positivity.

  400. Our religious

  401. culture

  402. identifies

  403. strong faith

  404. with

  405. ambitions,

  406. ambitious,

  407. joyful,

  408. and strong.

  409. Our society

  410. emphasizes

  411. and pursue

  412. comfortable

  413. self-made

  414. life and

  415. prides itself

  416. on being

  417. better than

  418. the rest

  419. of the world.

  420. Many

  421. Christians

  422. are influenced

  423. by our

  424. society

  425. and have

  426. difficulty

  427. emphasizing

  428. with the

  429. reality of

  430. suffering

  431. and the

  432. seemingly

  433. absence of

  434. God.

  435. We think

  436. it's not

  437. appropriate

  438. to lament

  439. to or

  440. about God

  441. is too

  442. negative

  443. to make

  444. God look

  445. bad.

  446. another

  447. reason we

  448. must lament

  449. in today's

  450. society

  451. by using

  452. or praying

  453. these

  454. psalms

  455. is those

  456. who think

  457. they have

  458. no problem

  459. and difficulties

  460. in their

  461. life can

  462. learn to

  463. sympathize

  464. with those

  465. in trouble

  466. and pray

  467. for those

  468. suffering

  469. or persecuted.

  470. Our

  471. reality is

  472. no one

  473. is immune

  474. to suffering

  475. and challenges

  476. in life.

  477. And maybe

  478. the reality

  479. for you

  480. right now

  481. is you

  482. are under

  483. significant

  484. burden.

  485. Both

  486. physical

  487. and spiritual

  488. sickness,

  489. marital

  490. problems,

  491. financial

  492. difficulties,

  493. pressure at

  494. work,

  495. even harassment

  496. and persecution.

  497. The

  498. advancing of

  499. your age

  500. bring all

  501. sorts of

  502. problems

  503. with you.

  504. you find

  505. it very

  506. hard to

  507. come

  508. full of

  509. joy

  510. or

  511. happiness.

  512. When you

  513. can see

  514. no way

  515. out

  516. and in

  517. your

  518. distress,

  519. lamenting

  520. and crying

  521. out,

  522. how long

  523. Lord,

  524. is a sure

  525. and only

  526. way

  527. of getting

  528. to our

  529. saying

  530. the Lord's

  531. praise

  532. for his

  533. has been

  534. good to

  535. me.

  536. So what

  537. is the

  538. most significant

  539. experience of

  540. suffering that

  541. you have

  542. gone through

  543. that you

  544. are going

  545. through

  546. now?

  547. What

  548. injustice

  549. and social

  550. issues

  551. disturb you

  552. most?

  553. God is

  554. inviting you

  555. to put

  556. your trust

  557. in him

  558. and lament

  559. with him

  560. over your

  561. significant

  562. sufferings

  563. and to

  564. cry out

  565. to him.

  566. Bring your

  567. lamentation

  568. to God,

  569. especially if

  570. you are now

  571. in the middle

  572. of your

  573. hardship.

  574. Let's

  575. practice

  576. lamentation,

  577. lamenting

  578. together,

  579. together,

  580. bring your

  581. suffering

  582. to God.

  583. We'll

  584. practice

  585. lamenting

  586. together

  587. today by

  588. reading out

  589. aloud Psalm

  590. 13,

  591. 42,

  592. and 43

  593. to each

  594. other.

  595. We'll

  596. divide this

  597. church into

  598. four groups,

  599. including you

  600. online.

  601. So group

  602. one,

  603. session one

  604. will be

  605. over there

  606. in front

  607. of the

  608. Stingas

  609. window.

  610. Session

  611. two will

  612. be to

  613. my left

  614. here.

  615. Session

  616. three is

  617. this group,

  618. including you

  619. online,

  620. and session

  621. four is

  622. those under

  623. the mezzanine.

  624. So what

  625. we're going

  626. to do is

  627. we're going

  628. to read

  629. out loud

  630. on the

  631. screen as

  632. the scripture

  633. comes up.

  634. So session

  635. one, we'll

  636. start reading

  637. out Lamentation

  638. 5, 21 to 22,

  639. and then Psalm

  640. 13.

  641. And while the

  642. session is

  643. reading, the

  644. rest of us

  645. can listen.

  646. And then

  647. the next

  648. session, we'll

  649. read the

  650. next session

  651. of text, and

  652. the rest can

  653. listen as

  654. well.

  655. So as we

  656. read out

  657. these verses,

  658. let's bring

  659. to your mind

  660. the suffering

  661. that you might

  662. be going

  663. through, and

  664. also the

  665. suffering of

  666. this world.

  667. And let's

  668. bring this

  669. word to

  670. God, and

  671. let God's

  672. word lead

  673. you through

  674. a journey

  675. of lament.

  676. Amen.

  677. So session

  678. one, please

  679. join me to

  680. read out.

  681. Restore us

  682. to yourself,

  683. Lord, that

  684. we might

  685. return, renew

  686. our days as

  687. of old, unless

  688. you have

  689. utterly reject

  690. us and are

  691. angry with us

  692. beyond

  693. measure.

  694. How long,

  695. Lord, will

  696. you forget

  697. me forever?

  698. How long

  699. will you hide

  700. your face

  701. from me?

  702. how long

  703. must I

  704. wrestle with

  705. my thoughts

  706. and day

  707. after day

  708. have sorrow

  709. in my heart?

  710. How long

  711. will my

  712. enemy triumph

  713. over me?

  714. Look on

  715. me and

  716. answer,

  717. Lord, my

  718. God, give

  719. light to

  720. my eyes

  721. or I will

  722. sleep in

  723. death.

  724. And my

  725. enemy will

  726. say, I

  727. have overcome

  728. him, and

  729. my foes

  730. will rejoice

  731. when I

  732. fall.

  733. But I

  734. trust in

  735. your unfailing

  736. love.

  737. my heart

  738. rejoice in

  739. your salvation.

  740. And I

  741. will sing

  742. praise, sing

  743. the Lord's

  744. praise, for

  745. he has been

  746. good to

  747. me.

  748. Session

  749. two.

  750. Ready?

  751. As the

  752. deer pants

  753. for streams

  754. of water,

  755. so my

  756. soul pants

  757. for you,

  758. my God.

  759. My soul

  760. thirsts for

  761. God, for

  762. the living

  763. God, when

  764. can I go

  765. and meet

  766. with God?

  767. My teeth

  768. have been

  769. my food

  770. day and

  771. night, while

  772. people say

  773. to me all

  774. day long,

  775. where is

  776. your God?

  777. These things

  778. I remember

  779. as I

  780. pour out my

  781. soul, how

  782. I used to

  783. go to the

  784. house of

  785. God.

  786. Under the

  787. protection of

  788. mighty one,

  789. we shout of

  790. joy and

  791. praise among

  792. the

  793. fisted

  794. throne.

  795. Why, my

  796. soul, are

  797. you

  798. downcast?

  799. Why so

  800. disturbed

  801. within me?

  802. Put your

  803. hope in

  804. God, for

  805. I will yet

  806. praise him,

  807. my

  808. savior and

  809. my God.

  810. Session

  811. three, and

  812. those of you

  813. online, please

  814. join me.

  815. My soul

  816. is

  817. downcast

  818. within me,

  819. therefore I

  820. will remember

  821. you from

  822. the land of

  823. the Jordan,

  824. the height of

  825. Hermon,

  826. from Mount

  827. Missa.

  828. Deep

  829. course to

  830. deep in

  831. the roar of

  832. your waterfalls,

  833. all your

  834. waves and

  835. breakers have

  836. swept over

  837. me.

  838. I

  839. day the

  840. Lord

  841. dearest

  842. his love,

  843. and light

  844. the song

  845. is with

  846. me.

  847. I

  848. pray to

  849. the God

  850. of my

  851. life.

  852. I

  853. say to

  854. my God,

  855. my rock,

  856. why have

  857. you forgotten

  858. me?

  859. why must

  860. I go

  861. about

  862. mourning,

  863. oppressed

  864. by the

  865. enemy?

  866. My bones

  867. suffer mortal

  868. agony,

  869. as my

  870. foes

  871. taunt me,

  872. saying to

  873. me all

  874. day long,

  875. where is

  876. your God?

  877. Why,

  878. my soul,

  879. are you

  880. downcast?

  881. Why so

  882. disturbed

  883. within me?

  884. Put your

  885. hope in

  886. the

  887. God,

  888. for I

  889. will yet

  890. praise

  891. him,

  892. my

  893. savior

  894. and my

  895. God.

  896. And

  897. section

  898. four

  899. over

  900. there.

  901. Vindicate

  902. me,

  903. my

  904. God,

  905. and

  906. plead

  907. the

  908. rescue

  909. me from

  910. those who

  911. are

  912. deceitful

  913. and wicked.

  914. You

  915. are God,

  916. my

  917. stronghold.

  918. Why

  919. have you

  920. rejected

  921. me?

  922. Why

  923. must I

  924. go about

  925. mourning,

  926. oppressed

  927. by the

  928. enemy?

  929. Send

  930. me your

  931. light and

  932. your

  933. faithful

  934. care.

  935. Let

  936. them

  937. bring me

  938. to your

  939. holy

  940. mountain,

  941. to the

  942. place where

  943. you

  944. dwell.

  945. Then I

  946. will go

  947. to the

  948. altar of

  949. God,

  950. to God

  951. my joy

  952. and my

  953. delight.

  954. I

  955. will praise

  956. you with

  957. the

  958. lead.

  959. O

  960. God,

  961. my

  962. God,

  963. why my

  964. soul are

  965. you

  966. downcast?

  967. Why so

  968. disturbed

  969. within me?

  970. Put your

  971. hope in

  972. God,

  973. for I

  974. will yet

  975. praise him,

  976. my

  977. savior and

  978. my

  979. God.

  980. And let's

  981. read together

  982. this next

  983. session.

  984. Together,

  985. we

  986. store us

  987. to

  988. yourself,

  989. Lord,

  990. that we

  991. might

  992. return.

  993. Renew

  994. our

  995. days as

  996. of

  997. old.

  998. Unless

  999. you

  1000. have

  1001. utterly

  1002. rejected

  1003. us and

  1004. are angry

  1005. with us

  1006. beyond

  1007. measure.

  1008. How

  1009. long,

  1010. Lord,

  1011. will you

  1012. forget me

  1013. forever?

  1014. How

  1015. long will

  1016. you hide

  1017. your face

  1018. from me?

  1019. how long

  1020. must I

  1021. wrestle with

  1022. my thoughts

  1023. and day

  1024. after day

  1025. have sorrow

  1026. in my

  1027. heart?

  1028. How

  1029. long will

  1030. my enemy

  1031. triumph

  1032. over me?

  1033. Look

  1034. on me

  1035. and answer,

  1036. Lord my

  1037. God.

  1038. Give light

  1039. to my eyes

  1040. or I

  1041. will sleep

  1042. in death.

  1043. And my

  1044. enemy

  1045. will say

  1046. I have

  1047. overcome

  1048. him and

  1049. my foes

  1050. rejoice

  1051. when I

  1052. fall.

  1053. But I

  1054. trust in

  1055. your unfailing

  1056. love.

  1057. my heart

  1058. rejoice

  1059. in your

  1060. salvation.

  1061. I will

  1062. sing the

  1063. Lord's

  1064. praise for

  1065. he has

  1066. been good

  1067. to me.

  1068. Many

  1069. haunting

  1070. questions

  1071. will

  1072. surface

  1073. and often

  1074. surface in

  1075. the middle

  1076. of a

  1077. difficult

  1078. circumstance.

  1079. While we're

  1080. reading through

  1081. those section

  1082. of Psalms,

  1083. what comes

  1084. up to

  1085. your mind?

  1086. while we

  1087. wait for

  1088. God to

  1089. deliver us,

  1090. we cannot

  1091. help but

  1092. question

  1093. sometimes,

  1094. have we

  1095. missed the

  1096. way by

  1097. mistake?

  1098. Have we

  1099. done something

  1100. wrong?

  1101. So we are

  1102. facing what

  1103. we're facing

  1104. now.

  1105. Does God

  1106. care?

  1107. Is God

  1108. there after

  1109. all or have

  1110. we been

  1111. mistaken all

  1112. along?

  1113. Waiting

  1114. does something

  1115. to us.

  1116. I don't

  1117. know,

  1118. have you

  1119. ever been

  1120. to an

  1121. emergency

  1122. ward when

  1123. you are

  1124. so urgently

  1125. needed some

  1126. help?

  1127. So you

  1128. got in

  1129. there,

  1130. you

  1131. waited,

  1132. you got

  1133. a number,

  1134. and every

  1135. time a

  1136. nurse will

  1137. pass,

  1138. you're

  1139. like,

  1140. is that

  1141. me?

  1142. Or

  1143. someone

  1144. that I

  1145. want to

  1146. help?

  1147. But the

  1148. longer you

  1149. sit in

  1150. there,

  1151. the reaction

  1152. of your

  1153. heart

  1154. is slow.

  1155. The

  1156. longest the

  1157. people

  1158. that sit

  1159. in the

  1160. emergency

  1161. ward often

  1162. is the

  1163. waiting

  1164. part

  1165. actually

  1166. changed

  1167. them.

  1168. Waiting

  1169. does

  1170. something

  1171. to us,

  1172. and it

  1173. also tells

  1174. us something.

  1175. It shows

  1176. what our

  1177. relationship

  1178. is to

  1179. the person

  1180. and to

  1181. the event

  1182. that we

  1183. are waiting

  1184. for.

  1185. The way

  1186. a man

  1187. will wait

  1188. for his

  1189. fiancee

  1190. and the

  1191. wedding,

  1192. the way

  1193. they're

  1194. expecting

  1195. parents

  1196. wait for

  1197. their

  1198. babies

  1199. during

  1200. their

  1201. pregnancy.

  1202. The

  1203. excitement

  1204. of the

  1205. waiting

  1206. because

  1207. the

  1208. person

  1209. that

  1210. they're

  1211. waiting

  1212. for,

  1213. the

  1214. event

  1215. they're

  1216. waiting

  1217. for,

  1218. is worth

  1219. waiting

  1220. for.

  1221. Waiting

  1222. shows us

  1223. what we

  1224. think of

  1225. the person

  1226. who keeps

  1227. us

  1228. waiting,

  1229. and we

  1230. have to

  1231. wait no

  1232. more,

  1233. because the

  1234. Lord has

  1235. come.

  1236. Our

  1237. Savior,

  1238. our God,

  1239. has

  1240. disamounted us.

  1241. Jesus is

  1242. not a

  1243. means to

  1244. an end

  1245. or mechanism

  1246. through which

  1247. we can

  1248. change our

  1249. circumstance.

  1250. He is

  1251. the end.

  1252. Our

  1253. circumstance

  1254. means to

  1255. drive us

  1256. to him.

  1257. It's not

  1258. that our

  1259. suffering

  1260. doesn't

  1261. matter.

  1262. It matters

  1263. enough to

  1264. bring tears

  1265. to the eyes

  1266. of the

  1267. Son of

  1268. God,

  1269. Jesus.

  1270. when he

  1271. saw

  1272. someone

  1273. die,

  1274. when he

  1275. saw

  1276. Jerusalem,

  1277. and people

  1278. are not

  1279. worshipping

  1280. God as

  1281. the way

  1282. they should.

  1283. Our

  1284. suffering,

  1285. our

  1286. circumstance

  1287. means to

  1288. drive us

  1289. to Jesus,

  1290. to God.

  1291. Our

  1292. suffering

  1293. matters

  1294. to our

  1295. God.

  1296. it

  1297. matters

  1298. like a

  1299. first

  1300. meeting,

  1301. matters

  1302. to a

  1303. marriage,

  1304. or like

  1305. a birth,

  1306. matters

  1307. to

  1308. motherhood.

  1309. It's

  1310. the entry

  1311. point to

  1312. a

  1313. relationship

  1314. formed

  1315. through

  1316. suffering

  1317. as much

  1318. as through

  1319. joy.

  1320. As if

  1321. Jesus

  1322. claimed

  1323. the goal

  1324. of our

  1325. existence

  1326. is a

  1327. relationship

  1328. with him,

  1329. finding

  1330. him in

  1331. our

  1332. suffering

  1333. is a

  1334. main

  1335. point

  1336. of

  1337. lamenting.

  1338. Let's

  1339. pray.

  1340. Lord,

  1341. you know

  1342. the deep

  1343. places

  1344. through which

  1345. our life

  1346. must go.

  1347. Help us

  1348. when we

  1349. enter them.

  1350. To

  1351. leave our

  1352. hearts to

  1353. you,

  1354. help us

  1355. to be

  1356. patient

  1357. when we

  1358. are

  1359. affected,

  1360. to be

  1361. humble

  1362. when we

  1363. are in

  1364. distress,

  1365. and grant

  1366. that the

  1367. hope of

  1368. your mercy

  1369. may never

  1370. fail us,

  1371. and the

  1372. consciousness

  1373. of your

  1374. loving kindness

  1375. may never

  1376. be crowded

  1377. or hidden

  1378. from our

  1379. eyes.

  1380. Through

  1381. Jesus Christ,

  1382. your Son,

  1383. our Lord.

  1384. Amen.

  1385. Amen.

  1386. Amen.

  1387. Amen.

  1388. Amen.

  1389. Amen.

  1390. Amen.

  1391. Amen.

  1392. Amen.

  1393. Amen.

  1394. Amen.

  1395. Amen.

  1396. Amen.

  1397. Amen.

  1398. Amen.

  1399. Amen.

  1400. Amen.

  1401. Amen.

  1402. Amen.

  1403. Amen.

  1404. Amen.

  1405. Amen.

  1406. Amen.

  1407. Amen.

  1408. Amen.

  1409. Amen.

  1410. Amen.

  1411. Amen.

  1412. Amen.

  1413. Amen.

  1414. Amen.

  1415. Amen.

  1416. Amen.

  1417. Amen.

  1418. Amen.

  1419. Amen.

  1420. Amen.

  1421. Amen.

  1422. Amen.

  1423. Amen.

  1424. Amen.

  1425. Amen.

  1426. Amen.

  1427. Amen.
