  1. Evening everyone, my name's Steve, I'm the city pastor here if I've not met you before.

  2. I'm going to pray and then we're going to launch in to the next part of our Christmas story.

  3. Gracious God, we thank you for your word as we have just been reminded as we celebrate Christmas of you coming into our world.

  4. I pray that you'd come now by your spirit into our hearts so that we would understand with clarity,

  5. build us up in hope, but also bring clarity to who you are, the world in which we live,

  6. and what you've done to come and save it.

  7. And we pray for your glory. Amen.

  8. 1961, a long time ago, the Russian Yuri Gagarin was the first person into space.

  9. Nikita Khrushchev was the premier of Russia at the time.

  10. And Khrushchev said that when Gagarin went into space, he discovered that God was not there.

  11. You know, like he toured the world real quick, had a look out the window, couldn't see God,

  12. and so came to the conclusion that therefore God does not exist.

  13. In response to that comment by Khrushchev at the time, the Oxford professor C.S. Lewis wrote an article called The Seeing Eye.

  14. Lewis writes in that article that if there is a God who creates us,

  15. God would not relate to human beings or to his creation in the way that a person on the first floor of an apartment block

  16. relates to the person on the second floor of an apartment block.

  17. Both are the same beings, they're just at a different level.

  18. Lewis wrote in this article that God would relate to humanity as the creator,

  19. and we the creatures, he would relate to humanity the way that Shakespeare relates to Hamlet.

  20. Shakespeare is the creator of Hamlet and the world that Hamlet exists in.

  21. Hamlet would have no way of knowing Shakespeare existed,

  22. no way of knowing his creator,

  23. unless Shakespeare chose to reveal himself to Hamlet.

  24. And to do that, Shakespeare would need to write himself into Hamlet, the play.

  25. Lewis's point in the article is that the only way we can know God

  26. is if God himself writes himself into his creation,

  27. into the story of history,

  28. so that the other characters within the story of history

  29. would know their creator.

  30. Now the claim of Christmas,

  31. the claim of Christianity,

  32. is that that is exactly what God has done.

  33. God did not just write

  34. about himself,

  35. but that he wrote himself into the drama of history.

  36. And so,

  37. is that just too unbelievable?

  38. Is it just too unbelievable?

  39. That's the question I've been looking at in the last few weeks.

  40. And as we've looked at the believability of Christmas,

  41. James has suggested that the story of Christmas

  42. isn't just a good story in our minds,

  43. something that brings us a sense of joy at Christmas time,

  44. once a year,

  45. but it's in fact a true story.

  46. It's a historical story.

  47. He's looked at the evidence for Jesus being a real person in history,

  48. the evidence that the New Testament accounts of his life

  49. are not made up.

  50. And that the miracles that are described in the New Testament

  51. haven't yet been disproven by science.

  52. Which leaves us with the,

  53. so what question at the end of it all?

  54. What does this all mean for us?

  55. And the main point that I want to make tonight

  56. is that if it's not true,

  57. if Christianity and Christmas is not true,

  58. you don't just lose the wonder of Christmas.

  59. You don't just gut Christmas of all its meaning,

  60. but in actual fact,

  61. you lose everything.

  62. Not just Christmas,

  63. you lose everything.

  64. We lose life.

  65. We lose meaning.

  66. We lose good and evil.

  67. We lose you and me.

  68. So, three points if you've got the St. Paul's app.

  69. No news story, good news story, and which story?

  70. So, no news story.

  71. In his global bestseller,

  72. Sapiens, A Brief History of Humankind,

  73. Israeli historian Yuval Noah Harari

  74. tells the story of humanity from the beginning.

  75. Harari rejects the claims of Christianity himself personally,

  76. but what he does do is he recognises the significant influence of Christianity

  77. on the history of humanity.

  78. And he actually argues in his book

  79. that our deepest moral beliefs,

  80. our sense of good and evil that we have,

  81. are not in actual fact self-evident truths,

  82. which are things that our culture argues today.

  83. Racism.

  84. Well, it's just self-evidently true that racism is bad.

  85. What he argues, Harari argues,

  86. is not actually self-evident truth at all.

  87. They are, in fact, biblical beliefs.

  88. This is how he puts it.

  89. The idea of equality, for instance,

  90. as one self-evident truth,

  91. is inextricably intertwined with the idea of creation.

  92. If you do not believe in the Christian myths about God,

  93. creation and souls,

  94. what does it mean that all people are equal?

  95. Most people in our society

  96. have a sense that human rights are good,

  97. that racism is wrong,

  98. that women and men are equal,

  99. that murder is evil,

  100. and that rich should not oppress the poor.

  101. General acceptance of those things being right or wrong.

  102. But why?

  103. You see, if there is no God,

  104. if God does not exist,

  105. as Khrushchev says,

  106. or said,

  107. then these things are not moral facts.

  108. They are, in fact, opinions,

  109. and only opinions.

  110. British historian Tom Holland makes a similar point.

  111. He stopped himself,

  112. stopped believing in God as a child,

  113. but after years of historical research,

  114. he found himself being drawn back to Jesus.

  115. This was mainly because

  116. he found that many of the values

  117. that he held dear to him

  118. and that were dear to society

  119. were intimately connected to Jesus

  120. and the Christian faith.

  121. human equality and rights,

  122. equality of men and women,

  123. love for foreigners,

  124. care for the poor,

  125. vulnerable and the marginalized

  126. are specifically Christian beliefs.

  127. Now, history shows us

  128. that it was only as the Christian faith spread

  129. in the first century

  130. into the Roman Empire and beyond

  131. that these beliefs

  132. became generally accepted.

  133. The ancient world prior to Christianity,

  134. prior to Jesus,

  135. laughed at the concept of equality of people,

  136. laughed at the concept of good and evil,

  137. of the necessity to care for the poor

  138. and the marginalized.

  139. The temptation of our society nowadays

  140. is to assume that you can keep those values,

  141. but you can get rid of the God

  142. that lies behind those values.

  143. And Harari makes the significant point

  144. of what happens when you do.

  145. As far as we can tell

  146. from a purely scientific viewpoint,

  147. human life has absolutely no meaning.

  148. No meaning.

  149. Humans are the outcome

  150. of blind evolutionary processes

  151. that operate without goal or purpose.

  152. Our actions are not part

  153. of some divine cosmic plan,

  154. hence any meaning

  155. that people ascribe to their lives

  156. is just a delusion.

  157. Now, he's saying that

  158. on the assumption

  159. that if you take God out of the picture,

  160. that philosophically

  161. is all that you're left with.

  162. And this is a non-Christian saying this.

  163. Now, I acknowledge

  164. that there are obviously people in our world

  165. who think their life

  166. has no meaning at all.

  167. I suspect, though,

  168. deep down,

  169. none of us really want

  170. what Harari writes there

  171. to be right.

  172. None of us really wants

  173. that to be right and true.

  174. If there is no God,

  175. then we are left

  176. with the reality

  177. that we live,

  178. we die,

  179. we decay,

  180. and that is it.

  181. That is,

  182. it's not just a bad news story,

  183. it's a no news story.

  184. There's nothing to be declared there.

  185. But Christianity

  186. and Christmas

  187. is the alternative.

  188. It's the alternative story.

  189. So let's look at the good news story.

  190. It is, in fact,

  191. Christmas is a good news story.

  192. We just read out,

  193. Nick just read for us

  194. a portion

  195. from the beginning

  196. of John's Gospel

  197. in the New Testament.

  198. John begins

  199. not with the birth of Jesus,

  200. but he begins

  201. with the birth

  202. of the universe.

  203. He mentions a key figure

  204. who he calls

  205. the Word.

  206. I'll read the first five verses

  207. again for us.

  208. In the beginning,

  209. that's the beginning

  210. of the universe,

  211. in the beginning

  212. was the Word

  213. and the Word

  214. was with God

  215. and the Word

  216. was God.

  217. He was with God

  218. in the beginning.

  219. Through him

  220. all things were made,

  221. without him

  222. nothing was made

  223. that has been made.

  224. In him

  225. was life

  226. and that life

  227. was the light

  228. of all mankind.

  229. The light

  230. shines

  231. in the darkness

  232. and the darkness

  233. has not overcome it.

  234. Now,

  235. as John

  236. unfolds,

  237. the Gospel of John

  238. unfolds,

  239. we discover

  240. that the key figure

  241. known as the Word

  242. is, in fact,

  243. Jesus Christ.

  244. The Bible

  245. teaches

  246. that the creator

  247. God,

  248. the one who made

  249. all things,

  250. is three persons.

  251. God,

  252. the Father,

  253. God,

  254. the Son,

  255. and God,

  256. the Holy Spirit,

  257. who have always

  258. existed

  259. in perfect unity

  260. and love

  261. together.

  262. And the very

  263. first Christmas

  264. marks the moment

  265. in history

  266. when God,

  267. the Son,

  268. the Word,

  269. the creator

  270. of all things,

  271. writes himself

  272. into

  273. his story.

  274. He became

  275. a human being

  276. with a specific

  277. purpose.

  278. John tells

  279. the story

  280. of our lives

  281. being part

  282. of a God

  283. and his loving

  284. cosmic plan.

  285. Let me pick it up

  286. in verse 9

  287. of John

    John 1 chapter mention

  288. chapter 1.

  289. The true light

  290. that gives light

  291. to everyone

  292. was coming

  293. into the world.

  294. He was in the world

  295. and though the world

  296. was made through him,

  297. the world

  298. did not recognize him.

  299. He came to that

  300. which is his own,

  301. but his own

  302. did not receive him.

  303. Yet

  304. to all

  305. who did receive him,

  306. to those

  307. who believe

  308. in his name,

  309. he gave the right

  310. to become

  311. children of God.

  312. Children born

  313. not of natural descent

  314. nor of human decision

  315. or of a husband's will,

  316. but born

  317. of God.

  318. the word

  319. became flesh

  320. and made his dwelling

  321. amongst us.

  322. We have seen

  323. his glory,

  324. the glory

  325. of the one

  326. and only son

  327. who came

  328. from the father

  329. full

  330. of grace

  331. and truth.

  332. And from

  333. a little bit

  334. further down

  335. we read

  336. in John's gospel

  337. that the grace

  338. and truth

  339. came

  340. from Jesus

  341. Christ.

  342. Christ.

  343. So what

  344. that text

  345. is saying

  346. is that

  347. Jesus

  348. is the

  349. author

  350. of the story

  351. and

  352. its

  353. lead

  354. character.

  355. It's like

  356. Shakespeare

  357. has written

  358. himself

  359. into Hamlet

  360. and has

  361. become

  362. the lead

  363. character

  364. of the

  365. story

  366. of Hamlet.

  367. The God

  368. who made

  369. the universe

  370. enters

  371. into it

  372. in order

  373. to rescue

  374. it.

  375. Instead of

  376. celebrated

  377. we are told

  378. there

  379. he is

  380. rejected.

  381. Instead of

  382. honoured

  383. he is

  384. killed.

  385. But his

  386. death

  387. was written

  388. into the

  389. script.

  390. It was

  391. written

  392. into the

  393. script

  394. as the

  395. central

  396. part of

  397. the

  398. script.

  399. That is

  400. his death

  401. was not

  402. an accident.

  403. If it

  404. is true

  405. that there

  406. is a

  407. God

  408. who made

  409. us

  410. and loves

  411. us

  412. then that

  413. is fantastic

  414. news.

  415. It means

  416. that Christmas

  417. is fantastic

  418. news.

  419. It means

  420. that because

  421. of Christmas

  422. our lives

  423. have meaning.

  424. There is

  425. such a thing

  426. as good

  427. and evil.

  428. It means

  429. that justice

  430. and love

  431. and all

  432. of God's

  433. purposes

  434. will end

  435. up winning

  436. in the

  437. end.

  438. But Christmas

  439. is also

  440. terrible news.

  441. It's

  442. also

  443. humbling

  444. news

  445. because it

  446. means that

  447. we actually

  448. need saving.

  449. Humanity

  450. needs saving

  451. from the

  452. judgment we

  453. rightly deserve

  454. for rejecting

  455. God, for

  456. living as if

  457. this God

  458. does not

  459. exist, for

  460. trying to

  461. find meaning

  462. and satisfaction

  463. outside of

  464. him.

  465. Now some

  466. of us are

  467. deeply aware

  468. of sin

  469. even if

  470. we don't

  471. use that

  472. word.

  473. If there

  474. is a

  475. God who

  476. sees

  477. everything,

  478. knows

  479. everything,

  480. then we

  481. ultimately

  482. deep down

  483. know that

  484. that's not

  485. good.

  486. On one

  487. level,

  488. that is

  489. good and

  490. healthy.

  491. The Christmas

  492. story, the

  493. message of

  494. Christianity,

  495. in the end,

  496. is not a

  497. self-help

  498. message

  499. where you

  500. are told

  501. that you

  502. are mostly

  503. good enough

  504. but the

  505. baby in the

  506. manger will

  507. just give

  508. you that

  509. little extra

  510. prob that

  511. you need

  512. to get

  513. over the

  514. hurdles in

  515. the end.

  516. Every time

  517. we see

  518. Jesus helping

  519. someone in

  520. the gospel,

  521. it's those

  522. who knew

  523. they weren't

  524. enough.

  525. They are

  526. the ones

  527. that Jesus

  528. welcomes.

  529. Those who

  530. were considered

  531. too bad

  532. or too

  533. broken were

  534. in fact the

  535. preferred company

  536. of Jesus

  537. in his

  538. story.

  539. If you're

  540. unsure of

  541. yourself,

  542. let me ask

  543. you,

  544. how would

  545. you feel

  546. right now

  547. if we

  548. projected

  549. onto these

  550. screens

  551. every thought

  552. that you've

  553. ever had,

  554. every action

  555. done in

  556. secret,

  557. if it

  558. was projected

  559. onto these

  560. screens and

  561. played,

  562. replayed,

  563. would you

  564. be able to

  565. hold your

  566. head up

  567. high right

  568. now?

  569. To be

  570. frank with

  571. you,

  572. I'd be

  573. crushed if

  574. it was

  575. just today's

  576. tally.

  577. Just today's

  578. tally.

  579. God sees

  580. it all.

  581. He sees

  582. it all and

  583. that is,

  584. in the end,

  585. terrible,

  586. terrible news

  587. for us.

  588. Christmas.

  589. But it's

  590. not the

  591. end of the

  592. story.

  593. In the

  594. Christmas story,

  595. we are told

  596. Jesus is

  597. presented with

  598. three gifts

  599. by the

  600. astrologists who

  601. come from

  602. the east.

  603. And one of

  604. those gifts

  605. would have

  606. totally thrown

  607. Mary,

  608. myrrh.

  609. It was

  610. used to

  611. embalm the

  612. dead.

  613. Who gives

  614. baby toy

  615. coffins to

  616. kids at

  617. Christmas time?

  618. Under the

  619. Christmas tree,

  620. there's a toy

  621. coffin.

  622. Weird,

  623. weird thing.

  624. It was a

  625. symbol of

  626. death.

  627. Jesus came

  628. into this

  629. world to

  630. die.

  631. That was

  632. his purpose,

  633. to die.

  634. That's what

  635. he needed to

  636. do in order

  637. to bring

  638. about

  639. reconciliation

  640. between God

  641. and humanity.

  642. Jesus would

  643. die for the

  644. sins of

  645. humanity.

  646. And about

  647. 33 years

  648. after his

  649. birth,

  650. he was

  651. crucified just

  652. outside of

  653. Jerusalem.

  654. But his

  655. death was

  656. not the

  657. end of

  658. the story

  659. because three

  660. days later

  661. the tomb

  662. was empty

  663. and Jesus

  664. appeared to

  665. his followers

  666. alive.

  667. He faced

  668. death.

  669. He defeated

  670. death.

  671. He paid

  672. for our

  673. sin so

  674. that we

  675. don't have

  676. to pay

  677. for it.

  678. He knows

  679. every single

  680. one of our

  681. secret thoughts,

  682. our deepest

  683. failures and

  684. our deepest

  685. shame,

  686. love.

  687. But he

  688. loves us

  689. all the

  690. way to

  691. death and

  692. back again.

  693. And all

  694. you have

  695. to do

  696. is trust

  697. him.

  698. The

  699. Christmas

  700. story

  701. is part

  702. of God's

  703. story of

  704. time and

  705. eternity.

  706. So I want

  707. to ask you

  708. which story

  709. are you

  710. jumping in

  711. onto at

  712. the moment?

  713. God's

  714. story has

  715. three main

  716. parts to

  717. it.

  718. Sorry,

  719. four main

  720. parts to

  721. it.

  722. In chapter

  723. one,

  724. the God

  725. who stands

  726. outside of

  727. creation

  728. always existed,

  729. the one who

  730. created all

  731. things by

  732. speaking to

  733. existence.

  734. It's the

  735. only storyline

  736. in the

  737. history of

  738. the world

  739. through every

  740. great religion

  741. and philosophical

  742. system.

  743. It's the

  744. only storyline

  745. that has a

  746. divine being

  747. that creates

  748. all things

  749. out of

  750. love.

  751. The only

  752. one.

  753. In

  754. chapter two

  755. of the

  756. biblical

  757. storyline,

  758. the Christmas

  759. storyline,

  760. people reject

  761. the love

  762. of God.

  763. All people

  764. live life

  765. with no

  766. consideration

  767. for God

  768. at all.

  769. Relationship

  770. with God

  771. and each

  772. other is

  773. deeply

  774. fractured.

  775. All

  776. brokenness

  777. and evil

  778. in the

  779. world

  780. is

  781. connected

  782. to

  783. chapter

  784. two.

  785. Chapter

  786. three

  787. is

  788. God's

  789. plan

  790. to

  791. reverse

  792. all

  793. the

  794. wrong

  795. that

  796. we

  797. have

  798. created

  799. for

  800. ourselves.

  801. And

  802. this

  803. plan

  804. is

  805. worked

  806. out

  807. through

  808. history

  809. and

  810. finds

  811. its

  812. culmination

  813. in

  814. the

  815. life

  816. and

  817. the

  818. death

  819. and

  820. the

  821. resurrection

  822. of

  823. Jesus

  824. Christ.

  825. That

  826. is

  827. in

  828. the

  829. miracle

  830. of the

  831. Christmas

  832. story

  833. and the

  834. miracle

  835. of the

  836. Easter

  837. story.

  838. Jesus

  839. takes

  840. the

  841. judgment

  842. of

  843. God

  844. for

  845. our

  846. rebellion

  847. against

  848. God

  849. upon

  850. himself.

  851. He

  852. dies

  853. the

  854. death

  855. that

  856. we

  857. should

  858. have

  859. died

  860. and

  861. he

  862. rose

  863. victorious

  864. over

  865. sin

  866. and

  867. death.

  868. And

  869. everyone

  870. as we

  871. read in

  872. John

  873. chapter

  874. one

  875. everyone

  876. who puts

  877. their

  878. trust

  879. in

  880. Jesus

  881. is

  882. gathered

  883. back

  884. into

  885. relationship

  886. with

  887. God

  888. and to

  889. each

  890. other.

  891. chapter

  892. four

  893. of

  894. God's

  895. story

  896. is

  897. not

  898. the

  899. end

  900. of

  901. the

  902. story

  903. it's

  904. the

  905. beginning

  906. of

  907. the

  908. chapter

  909. that

  910. has

  911. no

  912. end.

  913. It's

  914. a

  915. chapter

  916. where

  917. God

  918. reigns

  919. forever

  920. with

  921. his

  922. people

  923. in

  924. the

  925. world

  926. recreated

  927. in

  928. perfect

  929. peace

  930. and

  931. harmony.

  932. This

  933. is the

  934. good news

  935. of the

  936. Christmas

  937. story

  938. written

  939. of

  940. God

  941. writing

  942. himself

  943. into

  944. history.

  945. You

  946. see the

  947. Christmas

  948. story has

  949. got to

  950. be

  951. connected

  952. with

  953. the

  954. whole

  955. story.

  956. It's

  957. just

  958. one

  959. part

  960. of

  961. the

  962. chapters.

  963. But

  964. we

  965. exist

  966. in

  967. our

  968. culture

  969. at

  970. the

  971. moment

  972. dominated

  973. by

  974. many

  975. stories

  976. but

  977. there

  978. is

  979. one

  980. particular

  981. story

  982. which

  983. stands

  984. out

  985. and

  986. it's

  987. permeating

  988. culture

  989. in

  990. every

  991. kind

  992. of

  993. way.

  994. It's

  995. the

  996. one

  997. that

  998. was

  999. raised

  1000. by

  1001. Nikita

  1002. Khrushchev.

  1003. It

  1004. was

  1005. highlighted

  1006. there,

  1007. Harari

  1008. highlights

  1009. it

  1010. himself.

  1011. It's

  1012. a story

  1013. that's

  1014. taken up

  1015. residence

  1016. in the

  1017. soul

  1018. of

  1019. Western

  1020. society

  1021. for the

  1022. past

  1023. 60

  1024. years

  1025. in

  1026. particular.

  1027. The

  1028. technical

  1029. term

  1030. for this

  1031. story

  1032. is

  1033. philosophical

  1034. naturalism.

  1035. It's

  1036. a fancy

  1037. name for

  1038. materialism,

  1039. secular

  1040. materialism.

  1041. person.

  1042. It's

  1043. a three

  1044. chapter

  1045. story

  1046. and it's

  1047. a story,

  1048. it's a

  1049. three

  1050. chapter

  1051. story

  1052. that

  1053. most

  1054. people

  1055. in

  1056. our

  1057. world

  1058. are

  1059. living

  1060. to

  1061. day

  1062. by

  1063. day.

  1064. The

  1065. first

  1066. chapter

  1067. of that

  1068. story

  1069. says that

  1070. there is

  1071. no

  1072. supernatural

  1073. or spiritual

  1074. power that

  1075. rules the

  1076. physical

  1077. universe.

  1078. Everything

  1079. that can

  1080. be seen

  1081. and measured

  1082. is a

  1083. result

  1084. of an

  1085. explosion

  1086. that appeared

  1087. out of

  1088. nothing

  1089. billions

  1090. of years

  1091. ago.

  1092. Scientifically

  1093. unproven.

  1094. Can't

  1095. prove it

  1096. scientifically.

  1097. Chapter

  1098. two of

  1099. this story

  1100. is that

  1101. against

  1102. all odds

  1103. humanity

  1104. evolved

  1105. from

  1106. prehistoric

  1107. soup

  1108. to be

  1109. the dominant

  1110. species

  1111. of the

  1112. earth

  1113. right now.

  1114. Despite

  1115. what people

  1116. might feel

  1117. there is

  1118. no absolute

  1119. right or

  1120. wrong.

  1121. If you

  1122. feel that

  1123. something is

  1124. right or

  1125. wrong

  1126. then that's

  1127. due to a

  1128. chemical reaction

  1129. in your

  1130. brain that

  1131. is again

  1132. not

  1133. scientifically

  1134. proven.

  1135. Everything

  1136. is an

  1137. accident

  1138. and so

  1139. therefore

  1140. life has

  1141. absolutely

  1142. no meaning

  1143. or purpose

  1144. at all.

  1145. And so

  1146. therefore

  1147. if that's

  1148. the case

  1149. make the

  1150. most of

  1151. life right

  1152. now.

  1153. Make it

  1154. as happy

  1155. as you

  1156. possibly

  1157. can.

  1158. Buy

  1159. everything

  1160. you

  1161. possibly

  1162. can.

  1163. Consume

  1164. every

  1165. experience

  1166. you

  1167. possibly

  1168. can

  1169. because

  1170. chapter

  1171. three

  1172. is

  1173. coming.

  1174. And

  1175. chapter

  1176. three

  1177. is just

  1178. simply

  1179. the

  1180. end.

  1181. The

  1182. sun

  1183. will

  1184. burn

  1185. up.

  1186. Humanity

  1187. will

  1188. become

  1189. extinct

  1190. and there

  1191. is no

  1192. form of

  1193. afterlife

  1194. or survival

  1195. of the

  1196. conscience.

  1197. the

  1198. story

  1199. of

  1200. materialism

  1201. is

  1202. that

  1203. only

  1204. what

  1205. you

  1206. can

  1207. see,

  1208. taste,

  1209. touch,

  1210. feel

  1211. has any

  1212. is the

  1213. purpose

  1214. of life.

  1215. That's

  1216. it.

  1217. The

  1218. Christmas

  1219. story says

  1220. that we

  1221. have a

  1222. loving

  1223. creator

  1224. who

  1225. has

  1226. triumphed

  1227. over

  1228. evil

  1229. at

  1230. great

  1231. cost

  1232. to

  1233. himself

  1234. to

  1235. love

  1236. you

  1237. dearly.

  1238. and we

  1239. look

  1240. forward

  1241. to a

  1242. day

  1243. when

  1244. everything

  1245. wrong

  1246. will be

  1247. made

  1248. right

  1249. and we

  1250. will

  1251. live

  1252. with

  1253. him

  1254. in

  1255. joy,

  1256. blissful

  1257. joy

  1258. for all

  1259. of

  1260. eternity.

  1261. Historically

  1262. plausible,

  1263. philosophically

  1264. satisfying.

  1265. Science

  1266. can't

  1267. disprove

  1268. it.

  1269. this

  1270. Christmas

  1271. story

  1272. is

  1273. unbelievably

  1274. good

  1275. news.

  1276. So

  1277. which

  1278. story

  1279. is your

  1280. story?

  1281. Which

  1282. story

  1283. drives

  1284. you

  1285. day

  1286. by

  1287. day?

  1288. Joining

  1289. Jesus

  1290. story

  1291. is the

  1292. most

  1293. real

  1294. and

  1295. wonderful

  1296. thing

  1297. that can

  1298. happen

  1299. to you

  1300. in your

  1301. life.

  1302. But

  1303. to get

  1304. to that

  1305. point,

  1306. we have

  1307. to start

  1308. with seeing

  1309. what

  1310. humanity

  1311. is,

  1312. who we

  1313. are,

  1314. we have

  1315. to come

  1316. to the

  1317. awful,

  1318. awful

  1319. realisation

  1320. that in

  1321. God's

  1322. story,

  1323. we're the

  1324. villains.

  1325. love,

  1326. we have

  1327. to come

  1328. to the

  1329. world.

  1330. And

  1331. Jesus is

  1332. the hero.

  1333. He's the

  1334. hero.

  1335. He's the

  1336. main character

  1337. in the

  1338. story.

  1339. And so

  1340. this

  1341. Christmas,

  1342. the biggest

  1343. thing you can

  1344. do with your

  1345. life is to

  1346. get written

  1347. into Jesus'

  1348. story by

  1349. in fact

  1350. giving your

  1351. life to

  1352. him.

  1353. make your

  1354. story a

  1355. good one,

  1356. one that

  1357. will go on

  1358. living as

  1359. Jesus himself

  1360. lives and

  1361. reigns right

  1362. now.

  1363. Up on the

  1364. screen, if

  1365. you're not

  1366. sure where

  1367. you sit with

  1368. the Christian

  1369. faith, on

  1370. the screen

  1371. is a QR

  1372. code.

  1373. And I

  1374. would encourage

  1375. you just

  1376. to take that

  1377. extra step

  1378. this Christmas

  1379. to get into

  1380. Jesus'

  1381. story with

  1382. your life.

  1383. to

  1384. his

  1385. child

  1386. that

  1387. 'll

  1388. ...
