  1. In C.S. Lewis's The Chronicles of Narnia, there is a interaction between Lucy and the great lion Aslan.

  2. Aslan is, if you're familiar with it at all, he is the Jesus figure in the Narnia Chronicles.

  3. And Lucy approaches Aslan and she gazes into his large but gentle and wise face.

  4. And Aslan says to her, welcome child.

  5. Lucy responds, Aslan, you're bigger.

  6. Aslan answers, that is because you are older, little one.

  7. She questions his response, not because you are.

  8. I am not, he says.

  9. But every year you grow, you will find me bigger.

  10. Every year you grow, you will find me bigger.

  11. That is, it's an analogy.

  12. The bigger Jesus is to us, the more we grow in our understanding of Jesus, the bigger he is to us.

  13. And the more central he becomes in our lives, the bigger our sense of purpose will be in our life.

  14. Meaning and contentment and passion and the joy will grow more and more the bigger Jesus is to us.

  15. And that's why our purpose here at St. Paul's is to treasure Jesus.

  16. And we do it ultimately for our joy.

  17. John's massive vision of Jesus has opened the eyes to countless, countless people over the centuries.

  18. To the greatness of Jesus Christ.

  19. And it has been equally profound as a gospel.

  20. Equally profound as an impact on Christians.

  21. And it expands their vision for the magnificence of who Jesus Christ is.

  22. And so as we spend this term working our way through the first 12 chapters, my hope is that we, like Lucy with Aslan, would find Jesus to be bigger and bigger and bigger than we ever imagined.

  23. To move beyond a mere religious response to him.

  24. And the more central we see him in our lives, the more abundant our life will become.

  25. And today, so therefore, as we come into John chapter 1, I want us to see who Jesus is, the profound change that he brings in our lives and what we need to do about it.

    John 1 chapter mention

  26. And that's just the first chapter.

  27. So St. Paul's app, get that open in front of you.

  28. Got three points there.

  29. But also your Bibles in John chapter 1.

    John 1 chapter mention

  30. John chapter 1 is one of the most richest and also famous parts of the Bible.

    John 1 chapter mention

  31. The first 18 verses makes the claim that the rest of the gospel of John explains, defends and supports.

  32. John chapter 1.

    John 1 chapter mention

  33. It's John chapter 1.

    John 1 chapter mention

  34. It's the first 18 verses is the prologue to the whole of the gospel.

  35. And the main claim is that the word that was in the beginning became flesh and lived amongst us so that we could bear witness to the word.

  36. That's the main claim.

  37. And we are told five things about the word in these verses.

  38. The word is a person.

  39. The word is a divine person.

  40. The word is an eternal divine person.

  41. And the word is the eternal divine person who's the source of all things.

  42. And lastly, the word is Jesus Christ.

  43. Now you could take five years to explain each of those five statements.

  44. But I want to focus on just one of these things that he's picked out.

  45. And that is John's use of the word word.

  46. I want us to focus on the word.

  47. It's a very interesting way to describe who Jesus is.

  48. The Greek word that John uses here for word is logos.

  49. In the beginning was the logos.

  50. And the logos came to dwell with us.

  51. It's a word that has an enormous amount of meaning for the first century Greco-Roman world.

  52. The Greek philosophers looked at nature.

  53. They saw balance.

  54. They saw harmony.

  55. They saw design.

  56. They saw order.

  57. And they concluded that there is a cosmic principle of order behind all that they observed.

  58. And they called that principle the logos of the universe.

  59. And the logos for Greek philosophers was an impersonal divine structure that brought forth all that we experience in the world.

  60. And that was the foundation of the Greek worldview, which is also the foundation of Western civilization.

  61. The Eastern worldview is built on a similar principle of purpose and reason and order behind what we observe.

  62. And so the logos is the purpose.

  63. It's the reason.

  64. It's the logic, which is where we get the word logos from.

  65. We get it from logos.

  66. Logic.

  67. Logos.

  68. It's the logic behind all things.

  69. It is what makes sense of all things.

  70. Maybe think of it like this.

  71. Most things that we purchase these days comes with a set of manufacturer's instructions.

  72. The more complex, the greater the instructions that you have associated with these things.

  73. And the instructions ask how to use and to care for that particular item.

  74. They are the manufacturer's purpose for the item.

  75. The guidelines how to use it within its purpose.

  76. In other words, the instructions are the logos for the item that we have in front of us.

  77. And the use of that item must be aligned to the instructions.

  78. To the design.

  79. The reason for its existence.

  80. And if you don't use it in line with the logos, at best, you will not get your value out of that item.

  81. At worst, it will be disaster.

  82. If you do not plug it into a PowerPoint, but you plug it into a hose, instead, it is not going to work.

  83. And at the very least, your warranty is going to be voided.

  84. The Greeks concluded that if we align our lives with the logos, life would go well for us.

  85. However, if you don't align your life with the logos, you would at very least experience an emptiness in life.

  86. A discontentment in life.

  87. A constant searching in life.

  88. At the very worst, you would destroy your life.

  89. Now, there are many different versions of what the logos was and how you would align your life to the logos.

  90. As there are today.

  91. Everything from living selflessly for the sake of others, for the world and for future generations.

  92. And then along comes John.

  93. John the Baptist.

  94. With the earth-shattering category of the Christian faith.

  95. The logos is not a principle.

  96. The logos is a person.

  97. To understand the world, to understand all things, you must understand a person.

  98. And this person is the designer and the source of all life.

  99. The one who we are to align our lives with.

  100. That this person is the truth that sits behind all things.

  101. And to live life well, we must have a relationship of love centered on a person.

  102. That is the radical claim of Christianity throughout the centuries.

  103. But verses 5 to 11 tell us it's a claim that has faced rejection right from the very beginning.

  104. Verse 9.

  105. Have a look at that.

  106. The true light that gives light to everyone has come into the world.

  107. He was in the world.

  108. And though the world was made through him, the world, that's the people, did not recognize him.

  109. He came to those which was his own.

  110. But his own did not receive him.

  111. Verse 5 is the key to understanding the rejection.

  112. The light shines in the darkness and the darkness has not overcome it.

  113. Other translations, for those who are familiar with different translations, say that the darkness has not understood it.

  114. In his commentary on this verse, Don Carson says,

  115. This verse is a masterpiece of planned ambiguity.

  116. That is, the word that John uses here, and he's very careful with all his words,

  117. the word he uses here can mean both overcome or understand.

  118. In the same way we might ask, what does it mean to master something?

  119. What does it mean when we say, I've mastered that?

  120. It may mean that I've overpowered it.

  121. Or it may mean, oh, I finally get it.

  122. It may mean both of those things at the same time.

  123. I finally get it.

  124. I figured it out.

  125. And that is, if you like, the ambiguity of this word is that there are two broad categories of rejecting the claims of Jesus Christ.

  126. One is an overly hostile.

  127. The other is just simply not to get him.

  128. Not to understand him.

  129. And either way, you've rejected him.

  130. In the post-Christian era that we find ourselves in now,

  131. some people are hostile to the idea that Jesus Christ is the truth

  132. that sits behind the universe.

  133. Our secular society is increasingly hostile to any idea that there is any form of absolute truth behind the universe.

  134. And in some quarters, there is an attempt to overcome Jesus.

  135. Another way to reject Jesus as the logos is the religious approach, the moralistic approach.

  136. It is not to understand Jesus.

  137. The religious approach is to see Jesus as laying down a set of rules for life

  138. where I need to obey in order to work for his approval.

  139. That is to misunderstand the logos.

  140. To misunderstand who Jesus is.

  141. Relativism and moralism are both forms of rejection of Jesus.

  142. Both leave us looking ultimately to ourselves

  143. and the consistency of our own lives for truth and meaning and hope.

  144. And that is why we are living in a world with so many fragile egos

  145. because it puts me, moralism and relativism, put me at the centre of the universe.

  146. As the truth of the universe.

  147. And it's an oppressive weight to bear.

  148. On the other hand, what John puts in front of us here is so liberating.

  149. There are hardly more beautiful words in the entire Bible

  150. than verses 12 to 14, or 12 and 14.

  151. To all who did receive him, to those who believe in his name,

  152. he gave the right to become children of God.

  153. Verse 14, the word became flesh and made his dwelling amongst us.

  154. And we have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son

  155. who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.

  156. The right to become children of God.

  157. That's what's at stake here in understanding who Jesus is.

  158. The relationship of a parent to a child is not based on the child's performance.

  159. It's not a consumeristic relationship.

  160. It's not a cost-benefit relationship.

  161. It's a covenant relationship based on unconditional faithfulness and commitment and love

  162. from the parent to the child.

  163. And in Jesus understanding him, we have the right to become children of God.

  164. In other words, this claim that Jesus is the truth

  165. is a non-oppressive truth claim.

  166. And Jesus Christ declares it's possible to have that kind of relationship with the God of the universe.

  167. How?

  168. Because the logos, the word, became flesh and dwelt amongst us.

  169. The logos of the universe came to us.

  170. He hasn't left us to our own devices to navigate life,

  171. to try and align ourselves with the manufacturer's purposes.

  172. The word that John uses for dwelt here is the word tabernacled amongst us.

  173. It's another name for templed amongst us.

  174. And all around this world, through every culture, there are temples.

  175. Temples have been built throughout history

  176. because people, human beings from every culture

  177. have instinctively sensed that there is a God,

  178. there is a logos, there is a purpose, there is a being,

  179. but there is a gap.

  180. There is a big gap.

  181. He is great and we are small.

  182. And temples were built in every culture in an attempt to bridge that gap.

  183. Sacrifices were offered.

  184. Rituals were performed.

  185. And holy people were engaged to bridge the gap for us.

  186. And John tells us that the Lord of the universe

  187. has now tabernacled with us.

  188. He has bridged the gap himself.

  189. Dwelt in our presence.

  190. So that we might know who he is.

  191. That's the beauty of the claim that Jesus is the word

  192. and why we'd want to see and savour him and treasure him for who he is.

  193. The heart of the universe is a person.

  194. Now one person who saw Jesus, who witnessed Jesus for who he is

  195. as the eternal creator God, the source of all life, was John the Baptist.

  196. The first witness to the glory of Jesus Christ as the truth.

  197. Now John was a guy who in the first century drew a lot of attention to himself

  198. about his preaching and calling people to repent for their sin.

  199. From the servants in the fields to King Herod himself in his palace.

  200. From the religious elite to the Roman soldiers.

  201. People everywhere were talking about John.

  202. He had more Twitter followers than anyone.

  203. Anyone on the face of the earth.

  204. Lots of rumours went around about who John was.

  205. That maybe John was the Logos.

  206. Could he be the long awaited Jewish Messiah

  207. who would rescue God's people from slavery?

  208. Is he in fact the hope of humanity?

  209. The saver of the nation?

  210. Verse 20, he said, not me.

  211. Well maybe he's the great Elijah, the prophet that Malachi predicted

  212. that was going to come just before the Messiah.

  213. Is John the Elijah figure from Malachi?

  214. Nope, I'm not him either.

  215. Well what about the prophet?

  216. The promised prophet from Deuteronomy

  217. who would lead God's people to a new day of dawn?

  218. Nope, I'm not him either.

  219. Who are you John?

  220. What are we going to say about you?

  221. How do you explain you John?

  222. In all of your greatness and your millions of tweets

  223. who are you?

  224. I'm a voice.

  225. Nothing special at all.

  226. I'm a voice.

  227. And yet you read Matthew chapter 11

    Matthew 11 chapter mention

  228. and we get a very different picture of who John is

  229. according to Jesus Christ.

  230. This is Jesus' assessment of John.

  231. Jesus began to speak to the crowd about John.

  232. What did you go out to see?

  233. A prophet?

  234. Yes, I tell you.

  235. And more than a prophet.

  236. This is the one to whom it is written.

  237. This is Malachi.

  238. I will send my messenger ahead of you

  239. who will prepare your way before you.

  240. I tell you.

  241. I tell you.

  242. Among those born of women,

  243. there has not risen anyone greater than John the Baptist.

  244. That's Jesus' assessment of John.

  245. He's worthy of all these millions of Twitter followers.

  246. Jesus' assessment of John is profoundly different

  247. than John's assessment of John.

  248. After the arrival of Jesus,

  249. this is what Jesus says,

  250. among those born of women,

  251. which is quite a lot of people as it turns out,

  252. there has not been anyone greater than John.

  253. No one greater than John.

  254. Jesus says he is, in fact,

  255. the Elijah figure that Malachi predicted.

  256. So how do you reconcile those two perspectives?

  257. Is John just someone that we might call in our modern day

  258. someone with low self-esteem?

  259. Or maybe someone who's got a false humility.

  260. Yeah, not really about me.

  261. Well, this is not at all.

  262. It's not at all the case

  263. because as we go through John's gospel,

  264. we will see that someone with low self-esteem

  265. and false humility would be incredibly fearful

  266. and would lack an element of confidence.

  267. And John, therefore,

  268. would not be calling the religious elite

  269. to the Roman soldiers

  270. to herod himself in his palace

  271. to repent and to follow Jesus Christ.

  272. That is not someone of low self-esteem

  273. who would have that kind of boldness and brashness.

  274. What's happening here is that John,

  275. who bears witness to the Logos,

  276. sees himself against Jesus and says,

  277. I am nothing.

  278. I may be the greatest human being

  279. who's ever walked the face of the earth up to Jesus,

  280. but I am nothing.

  281. Compared to Jesus.

  282. He's saying to the crowd,

  283. you've missed the point.

  284. It's not about me.

  285. You've missed the point.

  286. It's not about me.

  287. I am merely a voice announcing a greater one.

  288. I've seen the Logos.

  289. The great one is verse 23,

  290. the Lord.

  291. And here John uses the covenant name

  292. of Israel's God, Yahweh.

  293. Verse 27 is the key to understanding

  294. John's understanding of himself

  295. in the presence of Jesus.

  296. He is the one who comes after me,

  297. the straps of whose sandals

  298. I'm not worthy to untie.

  299. First century Palestine

  300. was a hot, dusty, dirty,

  301. mucky place.

  302. By the end of the day,

  303. your feet would stink

  304. bad.

  305. I actually put originally in my text,

  306. really bad,

  307. but Microsoft wanted to correct that

  308. for being bad grammar.

  309. But I want to say really,

  310. really, really bad.

  311. Really bad.

  312. And there were, in fact,

  313. Jewish laws

  314. that said you could not demand

  315. a servant

  316. or a worker

  317. or a disciple

  318. to untie your sandals

  319. unless

  320. they were a Gentile dog.

  321. They weren't allowed

  322. to untie your sandals.

  323. It was seen as so

  324. disgusting

  325. in first century.

  326. And every culture's got their things

  327. which we would describe as

  328. disgusting.

  329. And it was so disgusting

  330. in first century Palestine.

  331. They had laws against it.

  332. And notice what John

  333. says here.

  334. Notice what he doesn't say.

  335. He doesn't say,

  336. I am only worthy

  337. to untie his sandal.

  338. He actually says,

  339. I'm not even worthy

  340. to untie his sandal.

  341. He's saying to his audience here,

  342. I am lower

  343. than even the Gentile dogs

  344. in the face of Jesus Christ.

  345. He's saying,

  346. you,

  347. my Twitter account

  348. serves

  349. his glory.

  350. That's why I'm here.

  351. I'm below the lowest

  352. of the Gentiles.

  353. I understand

  354. the greatness

  355. of Jesus Christ.

  356. Don't try and understand

  357. my greatness.

  358. My life

  359. is to draw attention

  360. to him.

  361. My purpose

  362. is to bring him glory,

  363. not myself.

  364. He is the logos.

  365. He is the purpose.

  366. He is the meaning,

  367. the reason

  368. for the universe.

  369. He is the meaning.

  370. But John also bears witness

  371. to Jesus Christ,

  372. not just as the logos

  373. of the universe

  374. who has come to dwell

  375. amongst his creation,

  376. but he also bears witness

  377. to how the logos

  378. has come to his creation

  379. and why he's come

  380. to his creation.

  381. He doesn't come

  382. as a devouring

  383. great lion

  384. that needs to be appeased,

  385. but as a lamb.

  386. Now the relativist

  387. rejects the idea

  388. of a powerful

  389. divine designer.

  390. The moralist

  391. misunderstands

  392. that the powerful

  393. designer

  394. behind the universe

  395. is in fact

  396. a lamb.

  397. The logos

  398. is not just great

  399. but also good.

  400. Verse 29,

  401. he points to Jesus

  402. and says,

  403. look,

  404. this is John,

  405. look,

  406. the lamb of God

  407. who takes away

  408. the sin of the world.

  409. Exclamation mark

  410. in the original

  411. Greek text,

  412. look.

  413. Other versions

  414. have got,

  415. behold.

  416. John's Jewish audience

  417. knew exactly

  418. what he was saying

  419. when he said that.

  420. Centuries earlier

  421. when they were slaves

  422. in Egypt,

  423. Moses went to Pharaoh

  424. and said,

  425. let my people go

  426. and Pharaoh

  427. refused to let

  428. them go

  429. and God sent

  430. a bunch of plagues

  431. to convince Pharaoh

  432. and all of Egypt

  433. and the final plague

  434. on Egypt

  435. because of their

  436. oppression

  437. and their rebellion

  438. and their injustice

  439. was an angel

  440. of death

  441. to strike down

  442. the firstborn son

  443. in every home.

  444. that was

  445. devastating

  446. for the hopes

  447. of a patriarchal

  448. society

  449. who pinned

  450. their hopes

  451. on the firstborn son

  452. and God

  453. also said

  454. to his people

  455. Israel,

  456. don't forget

  457. your sinners

  458. too.

  459. It's not because

  460. you're better.

  461. The only way

  462. that they could

  463. escape

  464. the same fate

  465. was if they

  466. were to kill

  467. a lamb

  468. and have

  469. its blood

  470. spread

  471. on the doorposts

  472. of their homes

  473. and when the

  474. angel of death

  475. sees the blood

  476. he will pass

  477. over the house

  478. and they will

  479. not be slain

  480. for their sin.

  481. In other words

  482. the lamb

  483. died

  484. so that the family

  485. didn't have to

  486. and from that

  487. very night

  488. year after

  489. year

  490. century after

  491. century

  492. Israel celebrated

  493. the Passover

  494. meal

  495. and remembered

  496. the night

  497. that they didn't

  498. have to pay

  499. for their sin

  500. but how

  501. is it possible

  502. that a little

  503. lamb

  504. could possibly

  505. atone

  506. for the

  507. sin

  508. of an individual

  509. or of a nation

  510. of a world

  511. how is that

  512. possible?

  513. You see

  514. John and his

  515. Jewish heroes

  516. would have also

  517. been quite familiar

  518. with another

  519. figure in the

  520. Old Testament

  521. that the book

  522. of Isaiah

  523. calls the

  524. suffering servant

  525. and Isaiah

  526. says this

  527. about the

  528. suffering servant

  529. we all like

  530. sheep have

  531. gone astray

  532. each of us

  533. has turned

  534. to our own

  535. way

  536. and the

  537. Lord has

  538. laid on

  539. him

  540. the iniquity

  541. of us

  542. all

  543. he was

  544. oppressed

  545. and afflicted

  546. yet he did

  547. not open

  548. his mouth

  549. he was

  550. led like

  551. a lamb

  552. to the

  553. slaughter

  554. and John

  555. goes

  556. both of

  557. those images

  558. come together

  559. in the

  560. person of

  561. Jesus

  562. I'm

  563. channeling

  564. together

  565. in the

  566. person

  567. of Jesus

  568. the

  569. suffering

  570. servant

  571. is the

  572. sacrificial

  573. lamb

  574. for sin

  575. the

  576. logos

  577. of the

  578. universe

  579. is the

  580. suffering

  581. servant

  582. and he

  583. says

  584. behold

  585. look

  586. get it

  587. understand

  588. it

  589. the

  590. reason

  591. why

  592. our

  593. firstborn

  594. sons

  595. didn't

  596. die

  597. in

  598. Egypt

  599. and

  600. you

  601. don't

  602. need

  603. to

  604. now

  605. is

  606. because

  607. God

  608. has

  609. offered

  610. his

  611. own

  612. son

  613. as

  614. the

  615. sacrificial

  616. lamb

  617. and

  618. as

  619. he

  620. says

  621. to

  622. his

  623. hearers

  624. in

  625. the

  626. first

  627. century

  628. so

  629. he

  630. says

  631. to

  632. us

  633. now

  634. in

  635. the

  636. 21st

  637. look

  638. behold

  639. gaze

  640. think

  641. ponder

  642. understand

  643. get it

  644. who

  645. Jesus

  646. is

  647. he

  648. is

  649. the

  650. logos

  651. and

  652. the

  653. lamb

  654. for

  655. your

  656. joy

  657. the

  658. logos

  659. of the

  660. universe

  661. has

  662. sacrificed

  663. himself

  664. so

  665. that

  666. we

  667. can

  668. be

  669. free

  670. and

  671. loved

  672. and

  673. known

  674. and

  675. approved

  676. get

  677. it

  678. and

  679. get

  680. abundant

  681. life

  682. you

  683. see

  684. this

  685. news

  686. is

  687. news

  688. that

  689. humbles

  690. you

  691. that

  692. Jesus

  693. is

  694. the

  695. truth

  696. that

  697. he

  698. is

  699. the

  700. lamb

  701. it

  702. humbles

  703. you

  704. because

  705. that's

  706. what

  707. it

  708. took

  709. for

  710. God

  711. to

  712. deal

  713. with

  714. our

  715. rejection

  716. of

  717. him

  718. but

  719. it

  720. also

  721. lifts

  722. you

  723. up

  724. because

  725. his

  726. love

  727. for

  728. us

  729. is

  730. so

  731. great

  732. that

  733. he

  734. was

  735. in

  736. fact

  737. willing

  738. to

  739. do

  740. it

  741. in

  742. Jesus

  743. Christ

  744. for

  745. all

  746. of

  747. us

  748. fragile

  749. egocentric

  750. people

  751. trying to

  752. find the

  753. truth

  754. in

  755. ourselves

  756. Jesus

  757. Christ

  758. in

  759. him

  760. we

  761. receive

  762. the

  763. praise

  764. of the

  765. praise

  766. worthy

  767. we

  768. receive

  769. the

  770. love

  771. of

  772. the

  773. lovable

  774. and

  775. that

  776. fills

  777. you

  778. up

  779. on

  780. the

  781. inside

  782. it's

  783. the

  784. source

  785. of

  786. abundant

  787. life

  788. it's

  789. the

  790. reason

  791. John

  792. is

  793. so

  794. bold

  795. and

  796. so

  797. confident

  798. and

  799. yet

  800. so

  801. deeply

  802. humble

  803. it's

  804. why

  805. the

  806. whole

  807. trajectory

  808. of

  809. his

  810. life

  811. has

  812. shifted

  813. to

  814. him

  815. being

  816. just

  817. a

  818. voice

  819. the

  820. greatest

  821. priority

  822. in

  823. his

  824. life

  825. is

  826. to

  827. be

  828. a

  829. voice

  830. a

  831. voice

  832. to

  833. Jesus

  834. Christ

  835. when

  836. Jesus

  837. said

  838. that

  839. John

  840. is

  841. the

  842. greatest

  843. one

  844. born

  845. of

  846. women

  847. until

  848. now

  849. he

  850. added

  851. something

  852. that

  853. I

  854. didn't

  855. include

  856. the

  857. first

  858. time

  859. around

  860. let me

  861. include

  862. it

  863. the

  864. second

  865. time

  866. among

  867. those

  868. born

  869. of

  870. women

  871. there

  872. had

  873. not

  874. risen

  875. anyone

  876. greater

  877. than

  878. John

  879. the

  880. Baptist

  881. yet

  882. whoever

  883. is

  884. least

  885. in

  886. the

  887. kingdom

  888. of

  889. heaven

  890. is

  891. greater

  892. than

  893. he

  894. the

  895. greatest

  896. in the

  897. world

  898. up to

  899. Jesus

  900. was

  901. John

  902. the

  903. Baptist

  904. but

  905. those

  906. who

  907. trust

  908. in

  909. Jesus

  910. on

  911. his

  912. terms

  913. are

  914. in

  915. fact

  916. greater

  917. than

  918. John

  919. the

  920. Baptist

  921. how can

  922. that

  923. be

  924. well

  925. ask

  926. yourself

  927. the question

  928. why was

  929. John

  930. so

  931. great

  932. why was

  933. he

  934. great

  935. it's

  936. because

  937. he

  938. was

  939. a

  940. voice

  941. he

  942. was

  943. the

  944. first

  945. to

  946. grasp

  947. the

  948. greatness

  949. of

  950. Jesus

  951. Christ

  952. and

  953. he

  954. did

  955. it

  956. better

  957. than

  958. anyone

  959. else

  960. up to

  961. that

  962. point

  963. but

  964. every

  965. single

  966. Christian

  967. sits

  968. on

  969. this

  970. side

  971. of

  972. the

  973. death

  974. and

  975. resurrection

  976. of

  977. Jesus

  978. and

  979. it

  980. means

  981. that

  982. we

  983. have

  984. a

  985. greater

  986. capacity

  987. right

  988. now

  989. to

  990. understand

  991. to

  992. grasp

  993. who

  994. Jesus

  995. is

  996. for

  997. our

  998. joy

  999. and

  1000. to

  1001. experience

  1002. the boldness

  1003. of the

  1004. confidence

  1005. and the

  1006. humility

  1007. of

  1008. John

  1009. the

  1010. Baptist

  1011. to

  1012. the

  1013. degree

  1014. that

  1015. we

  1016. behold

  1017. who

  1018. Jesus

  1019. is

  1020. we

  1021. look

  1022. to

  1023. Jesus

  1024. understand

  1025. Jesus

  1026. is

  1027. the

  1028. degree

  1029. to

  1030. which

  1031. we

  1032. will

  1033. align

  1034. our

  1035. lives

  1036. with

  1037. him

  1038. and

  1039. it

  1040. will

  1041. be

  1042. the

  1043. degree

  1044. to

  1045. which

  1046. we

  1047. experience

  1048. joy

  1049. in

  1050. this

  1051. life

  1052. right

  1053. now

  1054. to

  1055. the

  1056. degree

  1057. that

  1058. we

  1059. grow

  1060. in

  1061. the

  1062. abundant

  1063. life

  1064. is

  1065. the

  1066. degree

  1067. also

  1068. that

  1069. we

  1070. will

  1071. be

  1072. a

  1073. voice

  1074. to

  1075. the

  1076. greatness

  1077. and

  1078. the

  1079. goodness

  1080. of

  1081. the

  1082. life

  1083. that

  1084. is

  1085. in

  1086. Jesus

  1087. going

  1088. to

  1089. to

  1090. the

  1091. heaven

  1092. him

  1093. it

  1094. his

  1095. oh

  1096. glory

  1097. to

  1098. the

  1099. motherfuck

  1100. to

  1101. the

  1102. another

  1103. gem
