  1. You may be seated.

  2. Good morning.

  3. My name's Matthew Capone, and I'm a pastor here at Cheyenne Mountain Presbyterian Church,

  4. and it's my joy to bring God's Word to you this morning.

  5. A special welcome if you're new or visiting.

  6. We're glad that you're here.

  7. And we're glad that you're here not because we're trying to fill seats,

  8. but because we're following Jesus together as one community.

  9. And as we follow Jesus together, we've become convinced that there's no one so good.

  10. They don't need God's grace, and no one so bad that they can't have it,

  11. which is why we come back week after week to hear what God has to say to us in His Word.

  12. We're continuing our series in the Gospel of Mark.

  13. You'll remember that the Gospels tell the story of Jesus and His life and His death and His resurrection.

  14. And as I mentioned earlier this morning and last week, the Gospels are always especially timely,

  15. and they're especially timely because of our constant need to have Christ presented to us in all His beauty.

  16. And Jesus is always beautiful, but He's especially beautiful as we see Him in the days leading up to His death and resurrection.

  17. And so we're going to have the same goal in a sense that we had last week,

  18. which is to see Jesus clearly, to see Him in His beauty, in His glory,

  19. in His love, in His final hours before His death.

  20. And so that's what we're going to see in Mark chapter 14.

    Mark 14 chapter mention

  21. We're going to be starting at verse 43, and Jesus is going to continue His path to the cross,

  22. and we'll see a progression here, not simply His prayer last week, the foretelling of His denial,

  23. but here we're going to see Him both betrayed and abandoned.

  24. We're going to see Him betrayed and abandoned, and it's with that I invite you to turn with me to God's Word.

  25. You can turn in your Bible. You can turn on your phone. You can turn in your worship guide.

  26. No matter where you turn, remember that this is God's Word,

  27. and God tells us that His Word is more precious than gold, even the finest gold,

  28. and it's sweeter than honey, even honey that comes straight from the honeycomb.

  29. And so that's why we read now Mark chapter 14, starting at verse 43.

    Mark 14 chapter mention

  30. And immediately while He was still speaking, Judas came, one of the twelve,

  31. and with him a crowd with swords and clubs from the chief priests and the scribes and the elders.

  32. Now the betrayer had given them a sign, saying,

  33. The one I will kiss is the man. Seize him and lead him away under guard.

  34. And when he came, he went up to him at once and said,

  35. Rabbi, and he kissed him.

  36. Verse 46.

  37. And they laid hands on him and seized him.

  38. But one of those who stood by drew his sword and struck the servant of the high priest

  39. and cut off his ear.

  40. And Jesus said to them,

  41. Have you come out as against a robber, with swords and clubs to capture me?

  42. Day after day I was with you in the temple, teaching, and you did not seize me.

  43. But let the scriptures be fulfilled.

  44. Verse 50.

  45. And they all left him and fled.

  46. And a young man followed him with nothing but a linen cloth around his body.

  47. And they seized him.

  48. But he left the linen cloth and ran away naked.

  49. I invite you to pray with me as we come to this portion of God's Word.

  50. Our Father in heaven, we thank you again as we do every week

  51. that you have given us your Word as a gift,

  52. that you don't stand far away from us.

  53. You're not distant.

  54. But instead, you come close and you speak to us.

  55. You tell us the story we need to hear.

  56. The story about ourselves and our sin and the story of Jesus

  57. and his grace and his love and his sacrifice.

  58. And we ask that you would tell us that story again this morning,

  59. that you would show us what's profound in this narrative that's simple,

  60. that you would make it sweet and real to us,

  61. that you would use it as an instrument to grow our understanding

  62. and our vision of Jesus and his beauty,

  63. and that that would cause us to love him, to follow him, and to obey him.

  64. And we thank you that we don't need to worry this morning

  65. about whether we've earned or deserved these things,

  66. that we ask you because we know that we haven't.

  67. And instead, we simply ask them in the mighty name of Jesus Christ.

  68. Amen.

  69. Last week, we ended with Jesus' session of prayer,

  70. asking that the cup be taken away from him.

  71. And as I mentioned, he had this surprisingly quick answer.

  72. He did not have to wait long to understand

  73. whether he was going to be able to avoid the cross

  74. because we saw at the very end of last week's passage,

  75. verses 41 and 42,

  76. that the soldiers are immediately coming for Jesus.

  77. Now, I told you last week, as I tell you from time to time,

  78. that I don't simply want you to learn things about the Bible,

  79. but I actually want you to learn how to read the Bible.

  80. You know, the old saying that you can give someone a fish

  81. and they'll eat for a day.

  82. You can teach them to fish and they'll be able to eat for a lifetime.

  83. That's my hope for you.

  84. And so I'll remind you of the same thing I told you last week,

  85. that when we're reading the Bible,

  86. we want to look for things that are repeated.

  87. We want to look for patterns and contrasts.

  88. We saw that last week,

  89. and we are not disappointed this week

  90. because the same thing repeats itself.

  91. Now, I'll pull back first to our passage that we looked at before.

  92. Verses 41 and 42 have the repetition that we want.

  93. Verse 41,

  94. the Son of Man is betrayed into the hands of sinners.

  95. Verse 42,

  96. see my betrayer is at hand.

  97. That does not stop though.

  98. We see it also in this passage this week.

  99. Verse 43,

  100. we see,

  101. excuse me,

  102. not verse 43,

  103. but verse 44,

  104. the same thing is repeated.

  105. Now the betrayer had given them a sign.

  106. Mark means to underscore for us

  107. over and over again,

  108. in case we miss it,

  109. Jesus is being betrayed.

  110. Okay?

  111. That's why this is over and over

  112. that he was underscoring it for us.

  113. In fact,

  114. he has given us hints

  115. at the very beginning of chapter 14,

  116. which we looked at several weeks ago.

  117. We see the same thing.

  118. Verse 10,

  119. Judas Iscariot went to the chief priest

  120. in order to betray him.

  121. Verse 11,

  122. he sought an opportunity to betray him.

  123. Verse 18,

  124. Jesus says,

  125. truly I say to you,

  126. one of you will betray me.

  127. Verse 21,

  128. woe to that man

  129. by whom the Son of Man is betrayed.

  130. Mark is repeating this over and over

  131. because he doesn't want us to miss

  132. the seriousness of what is happening here.

  133. And it is not simply any type of betrayal.

  134. It is not a small betrayal,

  135. but a large one.

  136. That's why we're told in verse 43,

  137. Judas came one of the 12.

  138. Now,

  139. this is not news to us,

  140. right?

  141. We have known Judas

  142. for quite some time now.

  143. We have seen him

  144. over multiple chapters.

  145. We don't need to be told

  146. that Judas is one of the 12.

  147. That's not a surprise.

  148. That's not new information for us.

  149. In fact,

  150. we were told that earlier

  151. in this same chapter.

  152. Mark chapter 14,

    Mark 14 chapter mention

  153. if you have your Bible

  154. and you look at verse 10,

  155. it says this,

  156. then Judas Iscariot,

  157. who was one of the 12.

  158. Why does Mark need to tell us

  159. what we already know?

  160. Mark tells us

  161. what we already know

  162. to help us see

  163. how serious a betrayal this is.

  164. It is not that Jesus

  165. is merely betrayed

  166. by someone

  167. who happened to follow him

  168. and listen to his teaching.

  169. He's not betrayed

  170. by someone

  171. who's on the periphery,

  172. on the outside.

  173. No,

  174. he's betrayed

  175. by someone

  176. in the inner circle.

  177. This is an insider threat.

  178. This is not just any betrayal.

  179. This is one of the worst betrayals.

  180. The principle is simple,

  181. which is this,

  182. the closer the person,

  183. the deeper the wound.

  184. The closer the person,

  185. the deeper the wound.

  186. The only thing

  187. that could make this worse

  188. would be if it was

  189. one of the three,

  190. if it was Peter,

  191. James,

  192. or John.

  193. But one of the 12

  194. is bad enough.

  195. Jesus is not simply

  196. betrayed.

  197. He is betrayed

  198. by one of his closest friends.

  199. Jesus is betrayed,

  200. we're told,

  201. not once,

  202. but twice,

  203. by one of the 12.

  204. We're not just told

  205. about Jesus' betrayal,

  206. though.

  207. It is shown as well.

  208. You'll remember

  209. when Judas comes,

  210. he has a sign

  211. that he's arranged.

  212. Verse 44,

  213. the one I will kiss

  214. is the man.

  215. Verse 45,

  216. and when he came,

  217. he went up to him

  218. at once and said,

  219. Rabbi,

  220. and he kissed him.

  221. What is betrayal

  222. if not someone

  223. who uses your closeness,

  224. your trust in them

  225. to hurt you?

  226. And what shows

  227. closeness and trust

  228. more than a kiss?

  229. One man has said this,

  230. betrayal is a gift

  231. that only a friend

  232. can give.

  233. Betrayal is a gift

  234. that only a friend

  235. can give.

  236. Only a friend kisses you.

  237. only an insider

  238. knows enough

  239. to commit treason.

  240. And so I just want us

  241. to sit in that

  242. for a second

  243. and to feel the pain

  244. and the heartbreak of it.

  245. Mark means for us

  246. to feel the pain

  247. and the heartbreak of it,

  248. which is why he says

  249. betray

  250. over and over again.

  251. He wants us

  252. to feel the pain

  253. and the heartbreak of it,

  254. which is why he tells us

  255. not once but twice

  256. that Judas

  257. was one of the twelve.

  258. What we are looking at

  259. in this week

  260. leading up to Jesus' death

  261. are things

  262. that are simple

  263. and profound

  264. in their simplicity.

  265. I'm not here

  266. this morning

  267. to give you

  268. some sort of new

  269. or penetrating insight.

  270. I'm here to say

  271. simply

  272. look and see

  273. Jesus

  274. as he suffers.

  275. Look and see

  276. Jesus

  277. in his pain.

  278. Look and see

  279. Jesus

  280. in what he was

  281. willing to go through

  282. for you.

  283. Many of you perhaps

  284. have experienced

  285. betrayal.

  286. It's what the psalmist

  287. talks about

  288. in Psalm 88

  289. which Brit

  290. read for us earlier.

  291. My closest friends

  292. have abandoned me.

  293. And what is this

  294. if not

  295. Jesus' closest friends

  296. abandoning him?

  297. There's a neuroscientist

  298. named Matthew Lieberman

  299. who wrote a book

  300. named Social

  301. and he says

  302. that social pain,

  303. social rejection,

  304. we could put a heartbreak

  305. into that category

  306. is physically painful.

  307. He compares it

  308. to a broken leg

  309. and he says,

  310. look,

  311. if you take a brain scan,

  312. physical pain

  313. and social pain

  314. look the same.

  315. Just based on the scan,

  316. you're not going

  317. to be able to tell

  318. if someone is

  319. in physical pain

  320. or in emotional pain

  321. because they feel

  322. the same.

  323. That is what

  324. rejection

  325. is like.

  326. imagine how much

  327. more it hurts

  328. to be betrayed.

  329. Now the point

  330. for us

  331. is not

  332. that we would

  333. feel sorry

  334. for Jesus.

  335. Okay?

  336. There are some

  337. portions of the church

  338. that encourage us

  339. to sort of

  340. whip up

  341. compassion for Jesus

  342. that somehow

  343. we are supposed

  344. to feel bad

  345. for him

  346. but that's not

  347. the direction

  348. that the Bible

  349. points us in.

  350. When Scripture

  351. shows us

  352. Jesus' suffering,

  353. when it highlights it,

  354. it is for two reasons.

  355. First,

  356. to show us

  357. how terrible

  358. our sin is.

  359. The seriousness

  360. of the cure

  361. shows how terrible

  362. the disease is.

  363. And so as we look

  364. at Jesus,

  365. as we meditate

  366. on him,

  367. as we think about him,

  368. as we sit

  369. in his suffering

  370. for a minute,

  371. we are meant

  372. to be reminded

  373. that our sin

  374. is not a small thing

  375. but a great thing.

  376. It's not a little thing

  377. but a big thing.

  378. So great

  379. that it includes

  380. Jesus' betrayal here.

  381. Second,

  382. it shows us

  383. not just

  384. the greatness

  385. of our sin

  386. but even

  387. more than that,

  388. the greatness

  389. of God's love.

  390. And so we sit

  391. in these things

  392. so that we can

  393. understand

  394. how serious

  395. our offense

  396. against God is

  397. and

  398. we can comprehend

  399. his love.

  400. That is why

  401. we pause

  402. for a moment

  403. to look at

  404. Jesus' suffering.

  405. It's in

  406. understanding

  407. his suffering

  408. and seeing

  409. our sin

  410. that we're able

  411. to really savor

  412. and appreciate

  413. and understand

  414. how much

  415. Jesus loves us.

  416. he loves us

  417. so much

  418. that he was

  419. separated from

  420. the Father.

  421. He drank

  422. the cup

  423. of wrath

  424. that we talked

  425. about last week.

  426. This week

  427. is just another

  428. angle on the same

  429. thing.

  430. He loved us

  431. so much

  432. he underwent

  433. betrayal.

  434. That is how much

  435. Jesus suffered.

  436. that's how much

  437. he cares

  438. for you.

  439. Simple

  440. and

  441. profound.

  442. It's not simply

  443. though that Jesus

  444. is betrayed

  445. in this passage.

  446. The passion

  447. narrative also

  448. underscores for us

  449. that Jesus

  450. does this

  451. alone.

  452. It would be

  453. one thing

  454. if Judas

  455. betrayed him,

  456. he gave him

  457. the kiss,

  458. he used this

  459. sign of intimacy

  460. to commit

  461. treason,

  462. but it is

  463. even more

  464. than that.

  465. It is not

  466. just that

  467. Judas betrays

  468. him,

  469. it is that

  470. everyone else

  471. runs.

  472. Jesus is not

  473. just betrayed,

  474. he is

  475. abandoned.

  476. Now it doesn't

  477. start with

  478. abandonment.

  479. We see in

  480. verse 47

  481. before that,

  482. one of those

  483. who stood by

  484. drew his sword

  485. and struck

  486. the servant

  487. of the high

  488. priest and

  489. cut off his

  490. ear.

  491. Now other

  492. gospels go

  493. into more

  494. detail.

  495. They tell us

  496. that it was

  497. Peter,

  498. that the name

  499. of this

  500. high priest

  501. was the

  502. servant,

  503. was Malchus,

  504. and they also

  505. tell us that

  506. Jesus heals

  507. the ear there

  508. on the spot.

  509. Mark shares

  510. none of those

  511. things with

  512. us,

  513. which means

  514. that in

  515. Mark's mind

  516. those details

  517. are unimportant

  518. to the story

  519. he's trying

  520. to tell in

  521. this moment.

  522. And the

  523. story I

  524. believe is

  525. this,

  526. as Jesus

  527. is undergoing

  528. this moment

  529. of betrayal,

  530. as he is

  531. being kissed

  532. as an act

  533. of treason,

  534. his disciples

  535. are still

  536. deeply confused

  537. about what

  538. is going

  539. on.

  540. They are

  541. forgetting

  542. what he

  543. has tried

  544. to tell

  545. them over

  546. and over

  547. again.

  548. Even after

  549. all the time

  550. they've spent

  551. with Jesus,

  552. they do not

  553. understand what

  554. is happening.

  555. And so,

  556. Jesus is going

  557. through this

  558. moment of

  559. betrayal,

  560. and he is

  561. surrounded by

  562. misunderstanding,

  563. violence,

  564. commotion,

  565. and distraction.

  566. those who

  567. are there

  568. to support

  569. him have

  570. no idea

  571. what's

  572. happening,

  573. and they

  574. do not

  575. what is

  576. helpful,

  577. but what

  578. is unhelpful.

  579. Mark then

  580. quickly moves

  581. from confusion

  582. to abandonment.

  583. It's not

  584. just,

  585. verse 47,

  586. the loss

  587. of the ear.

  588. Jesus then

  589. rebukes them,

  590. verses 48,

  591. 49,

  592. and then

  593. verse 50

  594. leaves us

  595. with this

  596. simple statement,

  597. and they

  598. all left

  599. him and

  600. fled.

  601. Jesus'

  602. disciples are

  603. not merely

  604. confused.

  605. They also

  606. leave him.

  607. Jesus does

  608. not face

  609. the worst

  610. moments of

  611. his life

  612. on earth

  613. surrounded

  614. by his

  615. buddies

  616. who can

  617. encourage

  618. him.

  619. Jesus

  620. faces

  621. them

  622. completely

  623. alone.

  624. Even

  625. worse than

  626. that,

  627. it's not

  628. just that

  629. the disciples

  630. leave him.

  631. There is

  632. one young

  633. man,

  634. verse 51,

  635. who follows

  636. after Jesus

  637. in this

  638. situation,

  639. but he

  640. is quickly

  641. neutralized

  642. as well.

  643. He has

  644. this linen

  645. cloth,

  646. which

  647. commentators

  648. tell us

  649. means he's

  650. probably

  651. wealthy,

  652. and most

  653. believe this

  654. is actually

  655. Mark himself.

  656. He is

  657. inserting

  658. himself

  659. into his

  660. own

  661. gospel.

  662. He,

  663. as a

  664. young man,

  665. is chasing

  666. after Jesus,

  667. but what

  668. happens to

  669. him?

  670. Verse 52,

  671. he left

  672. the linen

  673. cloth and

  674. ran away

  675. naked.

  676. This is on

  677. page 7 of

  678. your worship

  679. guide.

  680. Some scholars

  681. say that this

  682. is the author

  683. Mark himself,

  684. who would have

  685. been a young

  686. man at the

  687. time.

  688. If so,

  689. he's saying,

  690. I was

  691. there,

  692. and I

  693. was as

  694. bad as

  695. everybody

  696. else.

  697. Everyone

  698. has failed

  699. Jesus.

  700. Everyone

  701. has failed

  702. Jesus.

  703. Even Mark

  704. can't get it

  705. done.

  706. And so

  707. the point

  708. is this.

  709. In a

  710. scene

  711. characterized

  712. by human

  713. failure,

  714. betrayal,

  715. and

  716. abandonment,

  717. Jesus

  718. succeeds.

  719. But he

  720. does it

  721. all alone.

  722. Jesus

  723. does it

  724. by

  725. himself.

  726. were

  727. confronted

  728. with

  729. human

  730. incompetence

  731. and

  732. Jesus'

  733. great

  734. faithfulness.

  735. Jesus

  736. is not

  737. a

  738. quarterback

  739. who's

  740. guarded

  741. and

  742. protected.

  743. Jesus

  744. is not

  745. a musician

  746. who has

  747. backup

  748. singers

  749. to support

  750. him.

  751. Jesus

  752. is not

  753. a politician

  754. surrounded

  755. by aides

  756. and body

  757. guards.

  758. No,

  759. Jesus

  760. is all

  761. alone.

  762. No

  763. king

  764. ever

  765. moved

  766. forward

  767. so

  768. deserted

  769. and so

  770. abandoned.

  771. No

  772. king

  773. except

  774. Jesus.

  775. Mark

  776. tells us

  777. this to

  778. remind us

  779. of a

  780. very

  781. simple

  782. truth.

  783. there is

  784. no

  785. pride.

  786. There is

  787. no

  788. self

  789. congratulation

  790. in following

  791. after Jesus.

  792. Everyone

  793. has

  794. failed

  795. him.

  796. There

  797. is

  798. nothing

  799. for us

  800. to pat

  801. ourselves

  802. on the

  803. back

  804. for

  805. if we're

  806. Christians.

  807. Only

  808. gratitude,

  809. thankfulness,

  810. humility,

  811. repentance.

  812. repentance.

  813. Because

  814. everyone

  815. has

  816. failed

  817. Jesus.

  818. That

  819. includes

  820. you.

  821. It

  822. includes

  823. me.

  824. When

  825. it comes

  826. to our

  827. salvation,

  828. Mark

  829. is making

  830. it crystal

  831. clear for

  832. us that

  833. we do

  834. not

  835. give.

  836. We

  837. only

  838. receive.

  839. God

  840. will

  841. have

  842. mentioned

  843. to you

  844. before

  845. that

  846. we

  847. often

  848. like

  849. to

  850. separate

  851. the

  852. world

  853. into

  854. three

  855. types

  856. of

  857. people.

  858. There

  859. are

  860. amazing

  861. people

  862. like

  863. Mother

  864. Teresa.

  865. There

  866. are

  867. terrible

  868. people

  869. like

  870. Hitler.

  871. And

  872. then

  873. there

  874. are

  875. just

  876. everyday

  877. good

  878. upstanding

  879. citizens.

  880. Good

  881. great

  882. people

  883. like

  884. you

  885. and

  886. me.

  887. Mark

  888. is

  889. telling

  890. us

  891. forget

  892. that.

  893. You

  894. don't

  895. need

  896. to be

  897. a

  898. betrayer

  899. to be

  900. a

  901. bad

  902. person.

  903. You

  904. don't

  905. need

  906. to be

  907. Judas.

  908. Even

  909. the

  910. disciples

  911. abandoned

  912. Jesus.

  913. Even

  914. the

  915. good

  916. people,

  917. even

  918. the

  919. upstanding

  920. law

  921. abiding

  922. citizens

  923. fled.

  924. everyone

  925. failed

  926. Jesus.

  927. Not

  928. even

  929. the

  930. good

  931. people

  932. can

  933. contribute

  934. or

  935. help.

  936. Not

  937. even

  938. the

  939. good

  940. people

  941. are

  942. good.

  943. Everyone

  944. needs

  945. saving.

  946. You

  947. can

  948. reject

  949. Jesus

  950. or you

  951. can

  952. follow

  953. Jesus.

  954. You

  955. cannot

  956. contribute

  957. anything

  958. to

  959. Jesus.

  960. You

  961. can

  962. give

  963. him

  964. nothing.

  965. You

  966. can

  967. only

  968. receive.

  969. When

  970. Jesus

  971. was

  972. here

  973. in

  974. this

  975. garden,

  976. he

  977. was

  978. abandoned

  979. by

  980. everyone.

  981. Page

  982. eight of

  983. your

  984. worship

  985. guide

  986. points

  987. out

  988. that

  989. there

  990. was

  991. another

  992. garden

  993. that

  994. this

  995. garden

  996. echoes.

  997. In

  998. the

  999. garden

  1000. of

  1001. Eden,

  1002. Adam

  1003. and

  1004. Eve

  1005. woefully

  1006. failed.

  1007. Here

  1008. in this

  1009. garden,

  1010. Jesus

  1011. succeeds.

  1012. Where

  1013. others

  1014. dropped

  1015. away,

  1016. Jesus

  1017. continues.

  1018. Where

  1019. others

  1020. disobeyed,

  1021. Jesus

  1022. remained

  1023. faithful.

  1024. Jesus

  1025. passes

  1026. where

  1027. we

  1028. failed.

  1029. Jesus

  1030. succeeds

  1031. where

  1032. we

  1033. faltered.

  1034. And

  1035. he

  1036. does

  1037. it

  1038. all

  1039. alone

  1040. because

  1041. we've

  1042. abandoned

  1043. him.

  1044. And

  1045. he

  1046. does

  1047. it

  1048. all

  1049. out

  1050. of

  1051. his

  1052. love.

  1053. That's

  1054. how great

  1055. our sin

  1056. is,

  1057. how much

  1058. greater

  1059. God's

  1060. love.

  1061. I've

  1062. told you

  1063. over and

  1064. over in

  1065. the gospel

  1066. of Mark

  1067. that need

  1068. is the

  1069. price

  1070. of

  1071. admission.

  1072. Mark

  1073. reminds us

  1074. here,

  1075. need is

  1076. not just

  1077. the price

  1078. of

  1079. admission,

  1080. need

  1081. is all

  1082. you

  1083. have.

  1084. You

  1085. don't

  1086. have to

  1087. be a

  1088. betrayer

  1089. to

  1090. abandon

  1091. Jesus.

  1092. And

  1093. so the

  1094. question of

  1095. this passage

  1096. is very,

  1097. very

  1098. simple.

  1099. will you

  1100. recognize

  1101. your

  1102. need?

  1103. And

  1104. will you

  1105. bring

  1106. that

  1107. need

  1108. and

  1109. only

  1110. that

  1111. need

  1112. to

  1113. Jesus?

  1114. Because

  1115. in the

  1116. end,

  1117. all of

  1118. us

  1119. have

  1120. failed

  1121. him.

  1122. When

  1123. Jesus

  1124. suffered,

  1125. he did

  1126. it all

  1127. alone.

  1128. Need

  1129. is the

  1130. price

  1131. of

  1132. admission.

  1133. And

  1134. so that's

  1135. what we're

  1136. going to

  1137. sing now

  1138. in our

  1139. closing

  1140. hymn.

  1141. What

  1142. wondrous

  1143. love is

  1144. this,

  1145. O my

  1146. soul,

  1147. that

  1148. caused

  1149. the

  1150. Lord

  1151. of

  1152. bliss

  1153. to

  1154. bear

  1155. the

  1156. dreadful

  1157. curse

  1158. for

  1159. my

  1160. soul,

  1161. for

  1162. my

  1163. soul,

  1164. to

  1165. bear

  1166. the

  1167. dreadful

  1168. curse

  1169. for

  1170. my

  1171. soul.

  1172. Let's

  1173. pray.

  1174. our

  1175. Father

  1176. in

  1177. heaven,

  1178. we

  1179. praise

  1180. you

  1181. and

  1182. thank

  1183. you

  1184. that

  1185. Jesus'

  1186. success

  1187. is

  1188. greater

  1189. than

  1190. our

  1191. failure.

  1192. That

  1193. as we

  1194. abandon

  1195. him,

  1196. he

  1197. doesn't

  1198. abandon

  1199. us.

  1200. As

  1201. we

  1202. are

  1203. faithless,

  1204. he

  1205. is

  1206. faithful.

  1207. We

  1208. ask

  1209. that

  1210. you

  1211. would

  1212. use

  1213. that

  1214. truth

  1215. to

  1216. strip

  1217. us

  1218. of

  1219. our

  1220. pride

  1221. and

  1222. to

  1223. cause

  1224. us

  1225. to

  1226. run

  1227. to

  1228. you

  1229. knowing

  1230. that

  1231. we

  1232. bring

  1233. our

  1234. need

  1235. and

  1236. that

  1237. need

  1238. is

  1239. all

  1240. we

  1241. have.

  1242. We

  1243. ask

  1244. these

  1245. things

  1246. in

  1247. the

  1248. mighty

  1249. name

  1250. of

  1251. Jesus

  1252. Christ.

  1253. Amen.

  1254. I

  1255. invite you

  1256. to stand

  1257. for our

  1258. closing hymn.
