  1. My name's Matthew Capone, and I'm the pastor here at Cheyenne Mountain Presbyterian Church,

  2. and it's my joy to bring God's Word to you today.

  3. A special welcome if you're new or visiting with us.

  4. We're glad that you're here, and we're glad that you're here not because we're trying to fill seats,

  5. but because we're following Jesus together as one community.

  6. And as we follow Jesus together, we become convinced there's no one so good,

  7. they don't need God's grace, and no one's so bad that they can't have it,

  8. which is why we come back week after week to hear what God has to say to us in His Word.

  9. We're continuing our series on the Gospel of Mark,

  10. although what I'm about to say has nothing to do with the Gospel of Mark.

  11. One of my favorite things over the last couple years, I think maybe it was two or three years ago,

  12. we started saying the Lord's Prayer together as a congregation every Sunday.

  13. And one of my favorite things is when we do that, hearing small little voices join in.

  14. And I say that just as a reminder to us of what a great privilege it is to be in a church where we have squirming kids.

  15. And some of you have been in churches that don't have young children.

  16. That's a very sad thing.

  17. You may remember earlier in the Gospel of Mark, Jesus rebukes His disciples

  18. because they find children to be an inconvenience.

  19. So I say all that to say, you know, when we have young children who are screaming with us,

  20. our response is, you know, praise God.

  21. Praise God that He's blessed our congregation with the next generation.

  22. And praise God that we have the privilege of having them with us in worship.

  23. So that's just one of my favorite things about this church.

  24. Of many, right? Of many.

  25. We're grateful that God's allowed us to be part of raising up the next generation.

  26. We are continuing our series in the Gospel of Mark, which will be our series for not so long.

  27. So we're coming to the very end.

  28. And as we're coming to the end, as we're wrapping things up,

  29. you may remember earlier in the Gospel, I told you, you know, as we come near the end,

  30. we're going to see things close in.

  31. At the beginning, we're going to see three different types of people.

  32. We're going to see people who love Jesus, people who hate Jesus, and people who don't care.

  33. And as we get near the end of the Gospel, that middle category is going to disappear.

  34. We're going to see people who either embrace Jesus or they reject Him.

  35. And of course, that's what we're seeing here at the very end.

  36. And so this passage here with Joseph of Arimathea asks us this question, really,

  37. of what are you going to do with the Gospel of Mark?

  38. We've been in the Gospel of Mark for two years now.

  39. And I think maybe one of the saddest things would be if we moved on and we just sort of forgot about it.

  40. That was a series, you know, that we did at some point and glad to move on to another series,

  41. but it didn't make a difference for us.

  42. I told you at the very beginning, Mark doesn't mean for his Gospel to be an intellectual exercise.

  43. Mark doesn't want his readers to get away with just hearing about Jesus and then to walk off and do something else.

  44. Mark means for his Gospel to change us.

  45. He means for it to make us different.

  46. He means for us to see Jesus and be transformed.

  47. And so as we are at really the very end of the Gospel, the question is this,

  48. what are you going to do now?

  49. What are you going to do with everything that we've looked at the past two years?

  50. What are you going to do with the vision of Jesus that we've had over and over again?

  51. That's the question this passage asks.

  52. That's what Joseph of Arimathea challenges us with.

  53. And so I'm going to invite you to turn with me in your Bible.

  54. You can turn in your worship guide.

  55. You can turn on your phone.

  56. You can turn in your Bible itself.

  57. No matter where you turn, remember that this is God's Word.

  58. And God tells us that His Word is more precious than gold, even the finest gold.

  59. And it's sweeter than honey, even honey that comes straight from the honeycomb.

  60. And so that's why we read now.

  61. Mark chapter 15, starting at verse 42.

    Mark 15 chapter mention

  62. And when evening had come, since it was the day of preparation,

  63. that is, the day before the Sabbath,

  64. Joseph of Arimathea, a respected member of the council,

  65. who was also himself looking for the kingdom of God,

  66. took courage and went to Pilate and asked for the body of Jesus.

  67. Pilate was surprised to hear that he should have already died.

  68. And summoning the centurion, he asked him whether he was already dead.

  69. Verse 45.

  70. And when he learned from the centurion that he was dead,

  71. he granted the corpse to Joseph.

  72. And Joseph bought a linen shroud and, taking him down,

  73. wrapped him in the linen shroud and laid him in a tomb

  74. that had been cut out of the rock.

  75. And he rolled a stone against the entrance of the tomb.

  76. Mary Magdalene and Mary, the mother of Joseph, saw where he was laid.

  77. I invite you to pray with me as we come to this portion of God's word.

  78. Our Father in heaven, we praise you again for your mercy to us,

  79. that you have caused these stories, these true stories, to be written down,

  80. that we could hear them, that we could meditate on them,

  81. that we could know them 2,000 years later.

  82. We ask that they wouldn't be merely an intellectual exercise for us,

  83. but that you would show us Jesus.

  84. And as we see Jesus, that we would be transformed,

  85. that we would change to look more and more like him.

  86. We ask that you would do that this morning by your word,

  87. by the power of your spirit,

  88. that you would make us people who are transformed in our hearts,

  89. in our minds, in our lives.

  90. And we would grow in our love and our affection for Christ.

  91. We'd grow in our reverence and our awe for him.

  92. And we'd grow in our obedience to him.

  93. We ask these things in Jesus' name.

  94. Amen.

  95. Many of you know, if you've been in the world for any length of time,

  96. that if you make the wrong move or say the wrong thing

  97. or make an alliance with the wrong person,

  98. you might face the end of your career.

  99. You might face the end of a social circle

  100. if you support the wrong person or voice the wrong opinion.

  101. Of course, it's easy to think of times in history this has happened.

  102. We might think of the 1940s and 50s

  103. when Hollywood stars were blacklisted for their potential ties

  104. with the Communist Party.

  105. But Hollywood's not the only industry

  106. where someone might get blacklisted.

  107. Today, you face the risk of being what's called canceled

  108. if you say the wrong thing or support the wrong person.

  109. Of course, the opposite can also be true.

  110. Courage has its own attractiveness to it.

  111. Sometimes people have become famous over the last few years

  112. for their willingness to say unpopular things.

  113. But today, as we look at the end of this chapter, Mark 15,

  114. we're going to see a man, Joseph, who is willing to risk it all.

  115. He's willing to risk being canceled.

  116. He's willing to risk losing his status and his wealth.

  117. We see him for the first time in verse 43, this new character,

  118. and we find out he's a respected member of the council.

  119. And that means that Joseph was a member of the Sanhedrin.

  120. And so you just have to think back to the last chapter.

  121. Remember, Jesus had two trials.

  122. He had his religious trial, and he also had his civil trial.

  123. And you remember the religious trial.

  124. It was the Sanhedrin, which sort of functioned as the supreme court of the Jews

  125. that actually tried him.

  126. In other words, Joseph was a member of the court

  127. that referred Jesus to Herod and ultimately resulted in his death.

  128. Okay, so just let that sit with you for a minute.

  129. Joseph was part of the court that condemned Jesus.

  130. That in and of itself is a bit of a bombshell.

  131. Now, we're told about Joseph in the other Gospels as well.

  132. Mark does not tell us this, but Luke says this,

  133. that Joseph had not consented to their decision and action,

  134. and he was looking for the kingdom of God.

  135. So apparently, Joseph actually disagreed with what the Sanhedrin did.

  136. We're not told whether Joseph was there in person,

  137. whether he happened to miss the event.

  138. Wherever he was, Joseph was not there to stand up for Jesus.

  139. Okay, so we learn something about Joseph here.

  140. Joseph is a member of the power elite among the Jews.

  141. And that causes it to be even more surprising

  142. that he does what he does.

  143. Now, what he does here, we can know that he's in a rush.

  144. Verse 42, when evening had come,

  145. since it was the day of preparation,

  146. that is the day before the Sabbath.

  147. In other words, Joseph is on a tight schedule.

  148. The Jewish holy day is coming up.

  149. He's not supposed to be doing any work on the Sabbath.

  150. He probably should not be touching dead bodies.

  151. And so he has just a short amount of time to work with

  152. to get Jesus off of the cross.

  153. And so we see him then in verse 43.

  154. He goes, he takes courage, went to Pilate,

  155. and asked for the body of Jesus.

  156. Now, you might wonder why it is that Joseph has to ask for the body here.

  157. And the reason is that if someone was crucified,

  158. the expectation was that they would be dishonored in every way.

  159. So there was no guarantee that this person would have a normal burial.

  160. Part of how you honor someone is by taking good care of their body

  161. after they're gone.

  162. If someone's crucified, the worst death the Romans can offer,

  163. that's a way of saying this person deserves no honor.

  164. And so for someone's body to be released after they've been crucified,

  165. a special request has to be made to the magistrate,

  166. and the request has to be granted.

  167. Now, this request is supposed to be made by the family of the person that's killed.

  168. Joseph, to state the obvious, is not Jesus' family.

  169. Joseph is not a member of Jesus' inner circle.

  170. And so that reminds us of how unusual this request is.

  171. It also reminds us again of what we saw when Jesus was abandoned in the Garden of Gethsemane.

  172. He dies all alone.

  173. He dies without his family and his closest friends there to support him.

  174. And it reminds us of what a courageous act this is by Joseph.

  175. Now, you'll notice verse 44,

  176. Pilate's surprised that here that she should have already died.

  177. Remember, we talked about this last week.

  178. Jesus, as a crucified man, should have died sort of like a dimmer switch going out slowly.

  179. And instead, Jesus dies like this on and off switch,

  180. which is why he's able to cry out right before he dies.

  181. Remember, that's why the Roman soldier said,

  182. oh, this must be the Son of God,

  183. because Jesus dies in a way that is not supposed to happen on a cross.

  184. Jesus is able to give up his life,

  185. still having the strength to cry out,

  186. rather than just slowly fading away.

  187. And so that's why Pilate here is surprised.

  188. Like, wait, it doesn't make any sense that Jesus has already died.

  189. We need to go send some people to certify.

  190. Now, as an aside,

  191. this is Mark's way of telling us how reliable the gospel accounts are.

  192. He is saying, look,

  193. if you think that Jesus didn't rise from the dead

  194. because he actually didn't die,

  195. well, you need to take that up with Pilate,

  196. because Pilate certified that he died.

  197. Okay?

  198. So Mark's throwing in this aside here just to say,

  199. hey, this is a true account,

  200. and if you don't believe me,

  201. you can go talk to other people about it.

  202. By the way, he's doing the same thing in verse 47,

  203. when he says,

  204. Mary Magdalene and Mary and the mother of Joseph

  205. saw where he was laid.

  206. He's saying, hey, there's some witnesses you can go talk to

  207. if you don't really think Jesus died and was buried.

  208. Same thing, I didn't talk about this last week,

  209. but same thing going on in verse 40.

  210. Mark is listing these names over and over,

  211. and I put this in your worship guide under that doubt sidebar.

  212. He's listing these names over and over to say,

  213. hey, I'm not making this stuff up, okay?

  214. There's a lot of other people who saw this happen.

  215. If you doubt me, you can go talk to them.

  216. Regardless, Pilate's surprised, right?

  217. Joseph is asking for the body,

  218. and Pilate grants it.

  219. Joseph has just come out of the closet as a Jesus supporter.

  220. It is possible to say here

  221. that it is an understatement in verse 43

  222. that he took courage.

  223. Yeah, of course he took courage.

  224. In fact, he probably had to take a lot more than courage.

  225. Here is someone who is a member

  226. of the team that contend Jesus.

  227. So he had to take courage in the sense

  228. that he's standing against his own social group,

  229. his own team.

  230. As you know, you can quickly lose your place

  231. among the elites of a society

  232. by siding with the wrong people.

  233. And here, Joseph is an elite.

  234. Joseph is in the inner circle

  235. of the inner circles of the Jews.

  236. We're told in the other Gospels

  237. that Joseph is actually very wealthy.

  238. He has quite the place in society.

  239. He has quite the wealth to work with.

  240. In fact, this is part of the reason

  241. he's got an empty tomb

  242. that he can just offer to Jesus.

  243. Joseph has done very well in life.

  244. In fact, Matthew tells us this in his Gospel.

  245. He says,

  246. there came a rich man from Arimathea named Joseph.

  247. He doesn't even tell us his name first.

  248. He says, look, this guy had a lot of money.

  249. So it shouldn't surprise us, right,

  250. that he also has a large tomb

  251. to go along with it.

  252. Not everyone in the ancient world

  253. just had a spare tomb lying around

  254. that they could hand off

  255. to someone who had been crucified.

  256. Joseph, who happened to have a lot of money,

  257. did have that.

  258. And so that raises the question for us

  259. of why did Joseph take the risk?

  260. Why did Joseph take courage

  261. and go to Pilate and ask for the body of Jesus?

  262. In fact, everything would point against him doing that.

  263. Upton Sinclair has famously said,

  264. it is difficult to get a man to understand something

  265. when his salary depends on his not understanding it.

  266. Joseph's standing in society

  267. depends on him not understanding

  268. what's going on with Jesus.

  269. And yet, against all odds,

  270. he comes out here

  271. and publicly expresses his support for Jesus.

  272. It is not a secret anymore.

  273. Why?

  274. Joseph certainly knows he has a lot to lose.

  275. And Joseph somehow has become convinced

  276. he has a lot more to gain.

  277. Joseph has a tremendous amount to lose.

  278. And somehow, in his following of Jesus,

  279. he has become convinced

  280. he has even more to gain.

  281. Christian,

  282. are you willing

  283. to lose your kingdom

  284. for the sake of God's kingdom?

  285. Joseph

  286. gave up

  287. one of the spaces in his tomb

  288. and he went

  289. and he bought new linens

  290. to put Jesus in.

  291. Are you willing

  292. to sacrifice your resources

  293. for the kingdom of God?

  294. Joseph

  295. was willing

  296. to make a bold

  297. and unpopular stand.

  298. Joseph

  299. was willing

  300. to come out of the closet

  301. as someone who supports

  302. Jesus.

  303. Are you willing

  304. to stand against your team?

  305. Against your friends?

  306. Against your people?

  307. By letting them know

  308. that you stand with Jesus.

  309. Are you willing

  310. to lose your reputation?

  311. Are you willing

  312. for people to think

  313. that you're stupid

  314. or even worse,

  315. dangerous

  316. because you follow Christ?

  317. Are you willing

  318. to jeopardize

  319. your vocation

  320. to miss

  321. an opportunity

  322. to advance

  323. because people know

  324. that you stand

  325. with Jesus?

  326. Are you willing

  327. to lose relationally?

  328. Do you believe

  329. that it is better

  330. to be single

  331. than to be with someone

  332. who doesn't share

  333. your beliefs about God?

  334. do you know

  335. that you have

  336. a lot to lose?

  337. Do you know

  338. that you have

  339. even more to gain?

  340. That's what happened

  341. to Joseph here.

  342. Although,

  343. we know

  344. it didn't happen

  345. right away.

  346. Now,

  347. the other Gospels

  348. tell us,

  349. in fact,

  350. John 19 says this,

  351. Joseph was a disciple

  352. of Jesus

  353. but secretly

  354. for fear

  355. of the Jews.

  356. Joseph

  357. kept his love

  358. of Jesus

  359. under wraps.

  360. And so,

  361. what changed

  362. for Joseph?

  363. Joseph.

  364. How do you

  365. become a Joseph

  366. of Arimathea

  367. type person?

  368. How do you

  369. change

  370. that you're

  371. willing

  372. to give up

  373. your kingdom

  374. for the kingdom

  375. of God?

  376. Well,

  377. you have to believe

  378. that there's

  379. something

  380. in the future

  381. that's better

  382. than what you have

  383. in the present.

  384. You have to believe

  385. there's something

  386. you don't have

  387. that's better

  388. than what you do have.

  389. There's a basic

  390. principle in life

  391. which is that

  392. the greater

  393. the vision,

  394. the greater

  395. the sacrifice.

  396. And so,

  397. somehow,

  398. somewhere,

  399. Joseph had

  400. caught a vision

  401. for what the

  402. kingdom of God

  403. actually was.

  404. Joseph had seen

  405. how beautiful

  406. Jesus actually was.

  407. I told you guys

  408. before,

  409. you don't get

  410. over that old

  411. crush

  412. until you get

  413. that new crush.

  414. Joseph

  415. finally got

  416. over

  417. wealth

  418. and power

  419. and status.

  420. Jesus finally

  421. became

  422. his new crush.

  423. Jesus was

  424. the one

  425. who was worth

  426. more

  427. than everything

  428. else.

  429. And so,

  430. that's why

  431. things are

  432. interesting here

  433. in this passage

  434. with Joseph.

  435. It's not just

  436. that he's taking

  437. courage like

  438. verse 43

  439. tells us.

  440. but that he's

  441. taking a new

  442. courage.

  443. Joseph is

  444. taking courage

  445. he never had

  446. before.

  447. Joseph is

  448. taking risks

  449. he wasn't

  450. willing to

  451. take before.

  452. Joseph is

  453. putting everything

  454. on the line

  455. after Jesus'

  456. death

  457. that he wasn't

  458. willing to do

  459. before

  460. his death.

  461. John 19,

  462. I mentioned,

  463. tells us that

  464. it was a secret

  465. that he followed

  466. Jesus

  467. and now

  468. Joseph

  469. decides it's

  470. not a secret.

  471. Joseph

  472. has seen

  473. the beauty

  474. of Christ.

  475. Joseph has

  476. finally realized

  477. how valuable

  478. the kingdom

  479. of God is.

  480. Joseph has

  481. come to

  482. understand

  483. that there

  484. is nothing

  485. that is

  486. worth keeping

  487. if it means

  488. giving up

  489. Jesus.

  490. Before it

  491. was a secret

  492. now Joseph

  493. is willing

  494. to take

  495. the risk.

  496. He knows

  497. the kingdom

  498. of God

  499. is worth it.

  500. He knows

  501. it is more

  502. valuable

  503. than money

  504. and status

  505. and power

  506. and comfort

  507. and pleasure.

  508. Now,

  509. this passage

  510. doesn't tell us

  511. what the tipping

  512. point was

  513. for him.

  514. Potentially,

  515. it was Jesus'

  516. religious trial.

  517. Maybe he was

  518. actually there.

  519. Maybe he saw

  520. that Jesus'

  521. love for his

  522. people was so

  523. great that he

  524. was willing

  525. to suffer

  526. for them.

  527. Maybe the

  528. false accusations

  529. woke him up

  530. finally to

  531. the dead

  532. religion of

  533. his colleagues

  534. in the

  535. Sanhedrin.

  536. Maybe he

  537. realized

  538. finally that

  539. they were

  540. not actually

  541. interested in

  542. God and

  543. his ways,

  544. but they

  545. were interested

  546. in power

  547. and status.

  548. Maybe Joseph

  549. was changed

  550. when darkness

  551. came over the

  552. land for

  553. three hours

  554. while Jesus

  555. hung on the

  556. cross,

  557. and that

  558. caused Joseph

  559. to understand

  560. that Jesus

  561. was the one

  562. who was taking

  563. the penalty

  564. for his sins.

  565. Maybe he

  566. finally got

  567. home for him

  568. that Jesus

  569. was forsaken

  570. so that he

  571. could be

  572. accepted.

  573. Maybe it

  574. was Jesus

  575. miracles that

  576. got to

  577. him.

  578. He finally

  579. realized that

  580. Jesus was

  581. more powerful

  582. than all the

  583. things that

  584. he loved.

  585. Maybe it

  586. was Jesus

  587. casting out

  588. demons.

  589. Maybe Joseph

  590. realized that

  591. Jesus could

  592. heal things

  593. and fix

  594. things that

  595. money and

  596. medicine would

  597. never be able

  598. to fix.

  599. Maybe it

  600. was Jesus

  601. teaching.

  602. Maybe Joseph

  603. heard Jesus

  604. say this,

  605. for whoever

  606. would save

  607. his life

  608. will lose

  609. it, but

  610. whoever

  611. loses his

  612. life for

  613. my sake

  614. and the

  615. gospels

  616. will save

  617. it.

  618. And maybe

  619. Joseph heard

  620. that and he

  621. realized the

  622. future was

  623. better than

  624. the present.

  625. Maybe he

  626. heard Jesus

  627. say this,

  628. those who

  629. are well

  630. have no

  631. need of a

  632. physician,

  633. but those

  634. who are

  635. sick.

  636. I came

  637. not to

  638. call the

  639. righteous,

  640. but sinners.

  641. and maybe

  642. he finally

  643. decided Jesus

  644. healing was

  645. worth more

  646. than anything

  647. else.

  648. Maybe he

  649. heard Jesus

  650. say this,

  651. for even the

  652. son of man

  653. came not to

  654. be served,

  655. but to serve

  656. and to give

  657. his life as a

  658. ransom for

  659. many.

  660. Maybe that

  661. captured

  662. Joseph's

  663. loyalty.

  664. We're not

  665. told and we

  666. don't need to

  667. know.

  668. because the

  669. question for

  670. us is not

  671. what changed

  672. Joseph.

  673. The question

  674. is, has

  675. the gospel

  676. of Mark

  677. changed you?

  678. As we've

  679. looked at

  680. Jesus for

  681. two years,

  682. have you

  683. seen how

  684. gracious and

  685. loving he

  686. is?

  687. as we've

  688. looked at

  689. Jesus for

  690. two years,

  691. have you

  692. seen his

  693. power and

  694. his

  695. authority?

  696. He's more

  697. powerful than

  698. the rulers

  699. of this

  700. world.

  701. As we've

  702. looked at

  703. Jesus for

  704. two years,

  705. and especially

  706. in the last

  707. week of his

  708. life,

  709. have you

  710. seen that

  711. Jesus loves

  712. you more

  713. than anyone

  714. else?

  715. as we've

  716. looked at

  717. Jesus,

  718. has he

  719. melted your

  720. heart?

  721. Because if

  722. we move on

  723. to the book

  724. of Judges,

  725. which is our

  726. next series,

  727. and we just

  728. think of the

  729. gospel of Mark

  730. as a book

  731. that we

  732. looked at

  733. for a

  734. while,

  735. we will

  736. have missed

  737. out on

  738. what Joseph

  739. saw.

  740. Hast thou

  741. heard him,

  742. seen him,

  743. known him?

  744. Is not

  745. thine a

  746. captured

  747. heart?

  748. Mark puts

  749. this here at

  750. the end for

  751. a purpose,

  752. which is to

  753. remind us that

  754. Jesus' death

  755. demands a

  756. response.

  757. that we're

  758. not meant to

  759. see Jesus

  760. walking towards

  761. the cross and

  762. dying on it

  763. and then to

  764. simply walk

  765. away and

  766. continue with

  767. the rest of

  768. our lives.

  769. No, we're

  770. meant to be

  771. like Joseph

  772. who sees it

  773. and is finally

  774. willing to put

  775. everything on

  776. the line.

  777. We're meant to

  778. be like Joseph

  779. who sees it

  780. and is willing

  781. to finally be

  782. public about

  783. the fact that

  784. he loves Jesus.

  785. We're meant to

  786. be like Joseph

  787. who sees it

  788. and is willing

  789. to give up

  790. his resources

  791. to care for

  792. Jesus' body.

  793. We're meant

  794. to be like

  795. Joseph,

  796. to be willing

  797. to lose it all.

  798. I've been

  799. telling you for

  800. two years that

  801. there are two

  802. camps.

  803. There are those

  804. who are in,

  805. all in on

  806. Jesus and those

  807. who are out.

  808. Christian,

  809. are you all

  810. in?

  811. are you

  812. willing to

  813. be like

  814. Joseph of

  815. Arimathea?

  816. Is the

  817. kingdom of

  818. God worth

  819. it to you?

  820. Is it

  821. worth losing

  822. other

  823. kingdoms?

  824. Joseph

  825. believes that

  826. the kingdom

  827. of God is

  828. better than

  829. the kingdom

  830. of Joseph.

  831. And in case

  832. you missed it

  833. at the beginning,

  834. the kingdom

  835. of Joseph is

  836. going really

  837. well.

  838. Joseph's

  839. life would

  840. be very

  841. convenient and

  842. comfortable if

  843. he just kept

  844. his mouth

  845. shut.

  846. Joseph's

  847. life would

  848. be very

  849. convenient and

  850. comfortable if

  851. he just let

  852. alone and

  853. let Jesus'

  854. body hang.

  855. God

  856. will

  857. but he

  858. doesn't.

  859. Christian,

  860. is that

  861. true of you?

  862. hast thou

  863. heard him,

  864. seen him,

  865. known him?

  866. Is not

  867. thine a

  868. captured

  869. heart?

  870. Captivated by

  871. his beauty,

  872. worthy tribute,

  873. haste to

  874. bring.

  875. Let his

  876. peerless worth

  877. constrain

  878. thee.

  879. Crown him

  880. now,

  881. unrivaled

  882. king.

  883. let's pray.

  884. Our

  885. father in

  886. heaven,

  887. we praise

  888. you and

  889. thank you

  890. for your

  891. son and

  892. our savior,

  893. our Lord

  894. Jesus.

  895. us.

  896. We ask

  897. that you

  898. would not

  899. let the

  900. gospel of

  901. Mark wash

  902. over us.

  903. You

  904. wouldn't let

  905. us be

  906. numb to

  907. it,

  908. but you

  909. would give

  910. us tender

  911. hearts,

  912. that we

  913. would be

  914. like Joseph,

  915. that it

  916. would click

  917. for us,

  918. that we

  919. would finally

  920. see that

  921. your kingdom

  922. is better

  923. than our

  924. kingdom,

  925. that your

  926. future is

  927. better,

  928. than our

  929. present,

  930. that the

  931. vision that

  932. you have

  933. for us is

  934. worth the

  935. sacrifice,

  936. and so

  937. that we

  938. would know

  939. Jesus and

  940. love him,

  941. we'd follow

  942. him and

  943. obey him.

  944. We ask

  945. these things

  946. in the mighty

  947. name of

  948. Jesus Christ.

  949. Amen.
