  1. Romans chapter 5.

    Romans 5 chapter mention

  2. Two things before we get started.

  3. !

  4. I preach from my manuscript, and if you would like a copy of it, I can give that to you to make your morning a little easier.

  5. So come see me, give me your email address, and I'll send that to you.

  6. It's my writing, so don't judge me, please.

  7. The second thing is, if you don't take notes and you want to listen to sermons,

  8. on our website, ChristFamilyChurchNGA.org.

  9. ChristFamilyChurchNGA.org.

  10. Our sermons are all on there.

  11. And again, I'm not trying to say you have to listen to me or Nathan.

  12. Just as a resource, it's out there for you to use if you missed something.

  13. Alright, so Romans chapter 5.

    Romans 5 chapter mention

  14. One verse this morning.

  15. Verse 1.

  16. Before we dig in, John Lennon wrote.

  17. He said,

  18. Imagine there's no heaven.

  19. It's easy if you try.

  20. No hell below us.

  21. Above us, only sky.

  22. Imagine all the people living for today.

  23. Imagine there's no countries.

  24. It isn't hard to do.

  25. Nothing to kill or die for.

  26. And no religion too.

  27. Imagine all the people living life in peace.

  28. You may say that I'm a dreamer, but I'm not the only one.

  29. I hope someday you'll join us and the world will be as one.

  30. Imagine no possessions.

  31. I wonder if you can.

  32. No need for greed or hunger.

  33. A brotherhood of man.

  34. Imagine all the people sharing all the world.

  35. You may say that I'm a dreamer, but I'm not the only one.

  36. I hope someday you'll join us and the world will live as one.

  37. John Lennon may have been a dreamer, but his dream was peace.

  38. And we as humans desire to have peace.

  39. Since the fall though, Genesis chapter 3, we've been unable to find any type of peace.

    Genesis 3 chapter mention

  40. We have desired it.

  41. Look around the afternoon TV schedule.

  42. Most of you guys don't do that, I know.

  43. But look around.

  44. Show after show is filled with conflict resolution counseling.

  45. Host after host trying to help people find peace in their situation.

  46. With their families.

  47. With their neighbors.

  48. And sometimes with themselves.

  49. The TV is filled with these shows because people are looking for peace.

  50. And John Lennon, imagine all the people living life in peace.

  51. Peace between people is important.

  52. In fact, the gospel demands it.

  53. The gospel teaches us to love others as we love the Lord.

  54. It tells us to live generously.

  55. It demands radical living.

  56. Radical loving for the glory of God.

  57. Jesus, our example, lived a radical life.

  58. A life that pointed everything to the work of the Father.

  59. Not what He was doing, but always to what the Father was doing.

  60. And we as image bearers of God must do the same thing.

  61. The Bible teaches two main types of peace.

  62. Peace with others.

  63. In the church and outside of the church.

  64. Peace with God.

  65. A peace that has everything to do with what God has done and nothing with what we have done.

  66. Peace with God is the grandeur of the two.

  67. It trumps the other peace.

  68. And that is, of course, if you are comparing the two.

  69. Both are important.

  70. And this peace is our subject this morning.

  71. I will be asking and answering questions about this peace.

  72. Like, why do we need peace with God?

  73. What is it?

  74. What is it not?

  75. And finally, what do we do with it?

  76. Why does this or how does this change our life today?

  77. Alright, Romans chapter 5.

    Romans 5 chapter mention

  78. I am going to start reading in verse 22 of chapter 4 to kind of put it into context.

  79. And we will read through verse 5.

  80. Verse 22 says,

  81. That is why his faith was counted to him as righteousness.

  82. Him being Abraham.

  83. But the words it was counted to him were not written for his sake alone, but for ours also.

  84. It will be counted to us who believe in him who raised from the dead Jesus our Lord.

  85. Who was delivered up for our trespasses and raised for our justification.

  86. Therefore, since we have been justified by faith,

  87. we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.

  88. Through him we have also obtained access by faith into this grace in which we stand.

  89. And we rejoice in hope of the glory of God.

  90. More than that, we rejoice in our sufferings,

  91. knowing that suffering produces endurance.

  92. And endurance produces character.

  93. And character produces hope.

  94. And hope does not put us to shame.

  95. Because God's love has been poured into our hearts,

  96. through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us.

  97. Pray with me.

  98. Father, I thank you for this day, this day that you have made.

  99. I thank you that the breath I breathe,

  100. I thank you that the sunlight we see,

  101. the cooler weather,

  102. is all your grace to us.

  103. evidence of you being at work.

  104. God, I pray and I ask now that you would speak to us.

  105. That you would speak clearly to us,

  106. that we leave here different because your word has been revealed to us.

  107. I thank you for your word as we set it in our laps and read it in front of us.

  108. I thank you that that is your word to us.

  109. God, we pray and plead that you would speak.

  110. Holy Spirit, penetrate the hardened and hardest hearts in this room.

  111. Soften those hearts.

  112. Soften all of our hearts so that we can be receptive to your word.

  113. And that we can walk out of here with our faith strengthened,

  114. at peace with who we are because of who you are.

  115. In Jesus' name I pray this.

  116. Amen.

  117. Romans 5 verse 1 is the text this morning.

    Romans 5:1

  118. And it says,

  119. Therefore, since we have been justified by faith,

  120. we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.

  121. Now before we jump into peace,

  122. I feel it's important that we establish,

  123. if we haven't already,

  124. what does justified by faith mean?

  125. So that we all are on the same page.

  126. And this is our launching pad.

  127. This is where we're jumping from.

  128. And if it's where we're jumping from,

  129. I need to make sure that we're all jumping in the right direction

  130. with the same trajectory.

  131. So what is justification by faith apart from works?

  132. Well, it's what Paul has been writing about

  133. for the last chapter and a little bit.

  134. First of all, justification by faith for the believer is a one-time event.

  135. Okay?

  136. It is a one-time, once and forever.

  137. It isn't an action that we have to constantly come back to,

  138. like repentance or confession.

  139. So once you have been justified,

  140. that's it.

  141. Done.

  142. Forever.

  143. Justification also is that moment that we have been made right before God

  144. because of Jesus Christ's righteousness.

  145. And that righteousness was given to us,

  146. and from us our sin was taken away.

  147. So because of Christ,

  148. we stand forgiven,

  149. righteous,

  150. and holy before God.

  151. And apart from Christ,

  152. we have none of those traits.

  153. None of those things.

  154. Justification by faith is the act in which God declares that in Christ,

  155. in Christ,

  156. He regards us as if we had never sinned at all.

  157. That's good stuff.

  158. He pronounces that we are just and righteous in Christ.

  159. Our sins are forgiven.

  160. We are clothed by the righteousness of Christ.

  161. And it is God who declares it.

  162. Not us.

  163. It is God who declares that.

  164. Apart from Christ,

  165. it is impossible.

  166. It is impossible to be righteous.

  167. Justification by faith,

  168. apart from works,

  169. is an action by God,

  170. through Jesus Christ,

  171. on our lives,

  172. apart from anything and everything that we think we deserve or have done.

  173. So verse 1 of chapter 5 says,

  174. Therefore, since we have been justified by faith,

  175. now we can move on, right?

  176. Now we can...

  177. What is the result?

  178. Being justified by faith is a single moment.

  179. We need to understand this.

  180. It is a single moment.

  181. The implications last forever.

  182. Now Paul,

  183. it's almost like a change in direction for Paul as he's writing this letter.

  184. The first four chapters have been instructional.

  185. This is who you are.

  186. This is why you can't do what you think you can do.

  187. This is why what you do doesn't matter.

  188. We're all sinners.

  189. We come to chapter 5.

  190. And he changes his tone a little bit.

  191. It goes from instruction to almost a celebration.

  192. Some commentaries and scholars say that this next paragraph,

  193. or a couple paragraphs,

  194. is written as a celebratory song.

  195. It's as if Paul was writing this first section,

  196. and he's realizing the truth that he just got done talking about,

  197. writing about,

  198. and he's filled with awe and wonder.

  199. And now he rejoices in the result of God's work.

  200. This is where we sit in chapter 5.

  201. Paul is celebrating by saying,

  202. since we have been justified,

  203. since God has brought death to life,

  204. since He has done it,

  205. oh, what a great God.

  206. Since we are standing as if we've never sinned,

  207. we have peace with God.

  208. Peace with God.

  209. We also have access to His grace.

  210. And we rejoice in hope.

  211. Hope from God,

  212. rooted in God,

  213. because of God,

  214. for His glory.

  215. This is what Paul is writing.

  216. He says,

  217. what a great God who shows us mercy daily.

  218. And as you keep reading,

  219. you go all the way down to verse 11.

  220. He says,

  221. more than that,

  222. we also rejoice in God

  223. through our Lord Jesus Christ,

  224. through whom we have now received reconciliation.

  225. He is celebrating this justification by faith.

  226. He is celebrating what Christ has done.

  227. And He's revealing to us now,

  228. you've been justified

  229. and this is what it looks like after.

  230. This is what your life,

  231. this is the result of being justified.

  232. So the question is,

  233. the question is,

  234. why do we need to have peace with God?

  235. That's our first question.

  236. Why do we need to have peace with God?

  237. Our first point.

  238. In chapter 1 of Romans,

  239. verse 18,

  240. Paul writes,

  241. God's Word says,

  242. For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven

  243. against all ungodliness

  244. and unrighteousness of men,

  245. who by their unrighteousness

  246. suppress the truth.

  247. All men,

  248. women,

  249. and children,

  250. every person who has ever lived

  251. or will live is born into ungodliness

  252. and unrighteousness.

  253. And it's not just born into,

  254. it is ungodly and unrighteous.

  255. We are ungodly and unrighteous.

  256. In verse 10 of chapter 5,

  257. it says that we are enemies with God.

  258. That we were enemies before being justified.

  259. Before Christ,

  260. we were at war against God Almighty.

  261. We fought against Him and His truth.

  262. In verse 6 of chapter 5,

  263. it says we were ungodly.

  264. Verse 8,

  265. it says we were sinners.

  266. God does not fellowship with,

  267. partake in,

  268. or entertain any unrighteousness.

  269. Which is why,

  270. in verse 18 of chapter 1,

  271. it is His wrath,

  272. not His righteousness,

  273. not His holiness,

  274. not His love

  275. that is against the ungodliness

  276. and the unrighteousness of men,

  277. but it is His wrath.

  278. Because God

  279. cannot fellowship,

  280. partake,

  281. and entertain.

  282. And He must judge.

  283. Because that is who He is.

  284. John says in 1 John,

  285. that if we love the world,

  286. then we are at enmity with God.

  287. We are enemies.

  288. We are of opposition with God.

  289. Because we are born into this world,

  290. condemned,

  291. loving the world,

  292. born into ungodliness and sin,

  293. we are enemies with God.

  294. And you guys can picture

  295. war,

  296. two sides fighting against each other.

  297. That's who we are,

  298. the Lord Christ.

  299. We are fighting against God

  300. and His plan.

  301. That's what sin is.

  302. And that's what sin is.

  303. Ephesians 5, 6 says,

  304. Let no one deceive you with empty words.

  305. For because of these things,

  306. which are found in verse 5,

  307. which are sexually immoral,

  308. impure,

  309. covetous,

  310. and idolaters,

  311. the wrath of God

  312. comes upon the sons

  313. of disobedience.

  314. I know some of you

  315. might be thinking,

  316. God created us.

  317. And He said it was good.

  318. And we're created in God's image.

  319. All true.

  320. But chapter 3 of Genesis

  321. thwarts all of that.

  322. Chapter 3 of Genesis

  323. is the fall

  324. where sin comes into the picture.

  325. And we have been corrupted

  326. since that time

  327. and fought against God.

  328. So because of sin,

  329. because of no matter

  330. what bad thing you do,

  331. big or small,

  332. because of sin,

  333. there is a need

  334. for peace with God.

  335. Sin is the barrier

  336. that we cannot

  337. get over or around.

  338. It is in us

  339. and corrupts

  340. every part of our lives.

  341. Flip back to Romans 3.

  342. It corrupts so much

  343. of our life

  344. that Romans 3,

    Romans 3:11

  345. verses 11 and 12,

  346. the last part of 10 says,

  347. None is righteous.

  348. No, not one.

  349. No one understands.

  350. No one seeks for God.

  351. All have turned aside.

  352. Together they have become worthless.

  353. No one does good.

  354. Not even one.

  355. It sounds harsh.

  356. But it's the truth.

  357. We were created

  358. originally,

  359. Adam and Eve

  360. were created

  361. to fellowship with God.

  362. They were created

  363. to have community with God.

  364. But because of sin,

  365. that fellowship

  366. and that community

  367. has been broken.

  368. And until

  369. we trust

  370. and place our trust

  371. in Christ,

  372. who makes us righteous,

  373. we are at war with God.

  374. So until you trust

  375. and are justified

  376. by faith,

  377. you are at war

  378. with God.

  379. That's the reality.

  380. Christ is the Prince

  381. of Peace

  382. who gives peace

  383. to those who don't

  384. deserve it.

  385. Who haven't earned it

  386. and who frankly

  387. don't even seek it

  388. from Him.

  389. We seek peace,

  390. but we seek it

  391. in all other places

  392. except in Him.

  393. So,

  394. why do we need

  395. peace with God?

  396. Because of our sin.

  397. Because we are at war

  398. with God.

  399. So our second point

  400. this morning is

  401. what does peace

  402. with God look like?

  403. So what does this

  404. peace look like?

  405. What is it?

  406. So because

  407. our justification,

  408. verse 1 of chapter 5,

  409. therefore,

  410. since you have been

  411. justified by faith,

  412. we have peace with God

  413. through our Lord

  414. Jesus Christ.

  415. The justification

  416. is a once and forever

  417. action.

  418. It's done.

  419. This peace with God

  420. is as well

  421. a once and forever

  422. action.

  423. Peace is the result

  424. of being justified.

  425. or me.

  426. Peace is the result

  427. of being justified.

  428. Okay?

  429. We have peace with God

  430. because of Christ

  431. and no other.

  432. Anyone who places

  433. their trust in Christ

  434. who believes in Him

  435. will no longer

  436. be an enemy,

  437. but be eternally

  438. at peace with God.

  439. This peace

  440. is an eternal

  441. assurance of God,

  442. His promises

  443. and His salvation

  444. for us.

  445. Okay?

  446. Now,

  447. since it's an eternal

  448. peace,

  449. an eternal assurance,

  450. hear me clearly,

  451. there is nothing

  452. that you do

  453. or can do

  454. to break the peace

  455. with God

  456. that you have

  457. in Christ.

  458. Nothing.

  459. Now,

  460. if that isn't

  461. freeing

  462. and empowering,

  463. then

  464. check your pulse

  465. and see if you're alive.

  466. Nothing you do

  467. will break the peace

  468. that you have with God.

  469. You have peace

  470. because of Christ,

  471. not because of you.

  472. Now,

  473. what other religion

  474. out there

  475. can say

  476. that no matter

  477. what you do,

  478. no matter

  479. what you say,

  480. no matter

  481. what you think,

  482. you're loved

  483. and have peace

  484. with God.

  485. There isn't.

  486. There isn't

  487. another religion.

  488. And it's not like

  489. I'm leading you

  490. down a path here

  491. that,

  492. okay,

  493. I made the decision.

  494. Well,

  495. it's not like

  496. you weighed the pros

  497. and cons

  498. between Buddhism

  499. and Christianity

  500. or Islam

  501. and Christianity.

  502. You didn't.

  503. You didn't want

  504. to be a Christian.

  505. You didn't want

  506. to serve God.

  507. God chose you.

  508. He called you

  509. and He made you

  510. righteous

  511. because of Christ

  512. and not because of

  513. something you had done.

  514. The glorious beauty

  515. of the Gospel

  516. is that you did not choose.

  517. That's what grace is.

  518. Not choosing,

  519. but Him choosing you

  520. for no reason.

  521. Your salvation

  522. is rooted

  523. and founded

  524. in Christ.

  525. And there is

  526. nothing that changes

  527. the peace

  528. that you have

  529. with God.

  530. So here are

  531. a few characteristics

  532. of a life

  533. that fully understands

  534. their justification

  535. and their peace

  536. with God.

  537. First thing is,

  538. a man who understands

  539. his justification

  540. is a man who knows

  541. that God loves him

  542. even or in spite

  543. of his sin.

  544. A man who knows

  545. that God loves him

  546. in spite of his sin.

  547. Before Christ,

  548. we may ask the question,

  549. how can God love me?

  550. Why would God

  551. want to love me

  552. of everything

  553. that I've done?

  554. We may ask those questions.

  555. We may be troubled

  556. Troubled by the wrath

  557. of God.

  558. Why?

  559. How could God

  560. love me?

  561. Why would He want

  562. to bless me?

  563. But now,

  564. we can look at Christ,

  565. we can look at His death

  566. and resurrection

  567. and say,

  568. I know He loves me.

  569. I don't understand it,

  570. but I know He loves me.

  571. It's not a feeling

  572. or a sentiment.

  573. We know solid facts

  574. leading to a strong faith

  575. with evidence

  576. that God loves Him.

  577. In chapter 5 of Romans,

  578. down in verse 6,

  579. it says,

  580. For while we were still weak,

  581. at the right time

  582. Christ died for the ungodly.

  583. That was us

  584. before Christ.

  585. For one will scarcely die

  586. for a righteous person,

  587. though perhaps

  588. for a good person

  589. one would dare even to die.

  590. But God shows His love

  591. for us

  592. and that while we were

  593. still sinners,

  594. Christ died for us.

  595. Since therefore

  596. we have now

  597. been justified

  598. by His blood,

  599. much more

  600. shall we be saved

  601. by Him

  602. from the wrath

  603. of God.

  604. For if while we were enemies

  605. we were reconciled to God

  606. by the death of His Son,

  607. much more now

  608. that we are reconciled

  609. shall we be saved

  610. by His life.

  611. More than that,

  612. we also rejoice in God

  613. through our Lord Jesus Christ

  614. through whom we have now

  615. received

  616. reconciliation.

  617. reconciliation.

  618. God loves us

  619. and we know it

  620. because we have peace

  621. with God,

  622. because we understand

  623. our justification

  624. and our standing

  625. before God.

  626. we cannot have peace

  627. without Christ.

  628. The second characteristic

  629. of a man

  630. who understands

  631. His justification,

  632. who gets

  633. and understands

  634. His peace with God,

  635. he can answer

  636. the accusations

  637. of his conscience.

  638. There's going to be

  639. a moment,

  640. there's going to be

  641. moments,

  642. plural,

  643. when we doubt.

  644. I guarantee it.

  645. that doubting

  646. leads to questioning.

  647. Questioning along

  648. the lines of

  649. how could all this

  650. be true?

  651. How can it possibly

  652. be true

  653. that God has

  654. forgiven me?

  655. How can I be

  656. at peace with God

  657. who knows

  658. exactly what

  659. I've done?

  660. But a man

  661. who understands

  662. His justification,

  663. a man who is

  664. at peace with God,

  665. can answer

  666. these questions

  667. and squash

  668. the doubt.

  669. So,

  670. for you,

  671. can you answer

  672. those questions?

  673. Do you fully

  674. understand

  675. where you stand

  676. with God?

  677. Do you fully

  678. understand your

  679. justification?

  680. Do you fully

  681. understand the peace

  682. that you have

  683. with God now?

  684. Because of Christ

  685. and not because

  686. of anything

  687. you've done.

  688. If you can't

  689. answer these

  690. questions,

  691. then you're going

  692. to be miserable

  693. and unhappy

  694. and that peace

  695. is not going

  696. to feel like peace.

  697. it's not going

  698. to be freeing.

  699. It's going

  700. to be enslaving

  701. to you.

  702. So,

  703. can you answer

  704. those doubts

  705. and those questions

  706. that will arise?

  707. So,

  708. not only

  709. can He answer

  710. the questions

  711. from His conscience,

  712. but thirdly,

  713. can He answer

  714. the accusations

  715. of the enemy?

  716. John Newton

  717. wrote the hymn

  718. Amazing Grace.

  719. And before

  720. writing that hymn,

  721. He was a man

  722. engaged in

  723. slave trade

  724. and slave trafficking,

  725. it is said

  726. that there wasn't

  727. a sin that He

  728. did not commit.

  729. And God's grace

  730. was shown to Him

  731. as He trusted

  732. and believed

  733. in Jesus Christ.

  734. See,

  735. the devil was given

  736. artillery,

  737. ammunition,

  738. rock after rock

  739. to throw at John

  740. Newton because

  741. of his past.

  742. To bring his past

  743. back,

  744. to haunt a man

  745. changed by grace.

  746. He could,

  747. the devil could

  748. raise up his past,

  749. throw it in his face,

  750. and then say,

  751. do you still claim

  752. to be a Christian,

  753. forgiven and at peace

  754. with God?

  755. John Newton

  756. had his answer.

  757. An answer that

  758. all of us can use

  759. to silence the devil.

  760. John Newton

  761. wrote in his hymn,

  762. Approach My Soul

  763. to Mercy See.

  764. He wrote,

  765. Be thou my shield

  766. and hiding place

  767. that sheltered

  768. near thy side.

  769. I may my fierce accuser

  770. face and tell him

  771. thou hast died.

  772. In other words,

  773. what can I tell

  774. my accuser?

  775. I can't tell him

  776. I'm a good man.

  777. I can't tell him

  778. about my past

  779. or even my present

  780. or what I'm trying

  781. to do.

  782. There's only one way

  783. of silencing the enemy.

  784. I can my fierce

  785. accuser face

  786. and tell him

  787. thou hast died.

  788. The only way

  789. to silence the enemy

  790. is to bring to light

  791. not what we've done

  792. but what Christ

  793. has done for us.

  794. Revelation 12

    Revelation 12:11

  795. verse 11 says,

  796. And they have conquered

  797. him, the enemy,

  798. by the blood of the Lamb

  799. and by the word

  800. of their testimony.

  801. For they loved

  802. not their lives

  803. even unto death.

  804. A man who understands

  805. his justification

  806. will be able to give

  807. answers to the enemy

  808. who accuses

  809. and questions.

  810. But not only that,

  811. a man can do

  812. all of these things

  813. while in sin.

  814. While fallen in sin.

  815. A man can answer

  816. these questions,

  817. these accusations.

  818. That's my fourth

  819. characteristic of a man

  820. who understands

  821. his justification

  822. and peace.

  823. When a temptation

  824. is too strong

  825. and you fall,

  826. when you've been living

  827. a victorious life

  828. and fall in sin,

  829. can you employ

  830. the argument

  831. that I have been

  832. describing?

  833. Can you say,

  834. I stand in Christ

  835. and in Him alone.

  836. I am at peace

  837. with God.

  838. Can you say

  839. those things?

  840. Can you see

  841. out of your sin

  842. or are you defeated

  843. and blinded

  844. by your sin?

  845. I find in my own life

  846. that this is the hardest

  847. of times

  848. to proclaim the truth.

  849. It's the moments

  850. that I'm most vulnerable

  851. to the enemy

  852. and his schemes.

  853. And yet,

  854. these are the times

  855. that we should be boasting

  856. about what God has done.

  857. These are the times

  858. proclaim the truth.

  859. Because in the truth

  860. there is freedom.

  861. There is comfort.

  862. There is victory.

  863. See,

  864. the temptation

  865. in these situations

  866. is to just doubt.

  867. It's to doubt

  868. our own justification.

  869. It's to doubt everything.

  870. Doubt the very foundation

  871. of our faith

  872. that we believe.

  873. See,

  874. when you do that,

  875. you're giving evidence

  876. that you do not understand

  877. your justification

  878. or your peace

  879. with God at all.

  880. When you do that,

  881. you say,

  882. I'm not getting it.

  883. Listen carefully.

  884. You cannot

  885. be just

  886. one minute

  887. and not the next.

  888. If you are made righteous,

  889. if you are made justified,

  890. that's it.

  891. You are justified

  892. forever

  893. in Christ.

  894. It is in the moments

  895. of sin

  896. and after

  897. that we must remember

  898. the truth.

  899. of God's Word.

  900. And as chapter 4,

  901. verse 21 says,

  902. be fully convinced

  903. that God will do

  904. what He says

  905. He will do.

  906. If He says

  907. He forgives,

  908. He forgives.

  909. If He says

  910. He will never forsake,

  911. He will never forsake.

  912. So,

  913. why do we need

  914. peace with God?

  915. Our sin.

  916. What does peace

  917. with God look like?

  918. I've given you

  919. some characteristics.

  920. Our third point

  921. this morning.

  922. What peace

  923. with God

  924. is not?

  925. What is it not?

  926. A man who has

  927. a false peace

  928. is resting

  929. on his own faith

  930. rather than

  931. on Christ

  932. and His work.

  933. See,

  934. they look at

  935. their own faith

  936. instead of

  937. what Christ

  938. has done.

  939. Churches are

  940. filled with people

  941. like this

  942. because it isn't

  943. usually rooted

  944. from an intellectual

  945. ascent.

  946. It's rooted

  947. in a false faith.

  948. They would define

  949. faith by simply

  950. believing

  951. and salvation

  952. by simply

  953. confessing.

  954. pulled from

  955. a verse

  956. like Romans

  957. 10.

  958. 10.

  959. And with the

  960. mouth one

  961. confesses

  962. and is

  963. saved.

  964. See,

  965. there's

  966. teachings in

  967. our churches

  968. today

  969. and in the

  970. past

  971. that all

  972. you have

  973. to do

  974. is say

  975. that Jesus

  976. is Lord

  977. or all

  978. you have

  979. to do

  980. is say

  981. a prayer.

  982. A magic

  983. prayer.

  984. And the

  985. problem,

  986. though,

  987. is that's

  988. not biblical.

  989. Read the

  990. rest of

  991. Romans

    Romans 10 chapter mention

  992. chapter

  993. 10.

  994. And

  995. if

  996. they

  997. if

  998. if a

  999. person

  1000. speaks

  1001. a prayer,

  1002. if they

  1003. initiated,

  1004. then

  1005. then they're

  1006. the instigator

  1007. and not

  1008. the recipient.

  1009. It's not

  1010. a prayer.

  1011. It's a

  1012. it's a

  1013. person

  1014. in Jesus

  1015. Christ.

  1016. And if

  1017. you're

  1018. if you're

  1019. the instigator

  1020. and not

  1021. the recipient

  1022. of God's

  1023. grace,

  1024. then who

  1025. needs

  1026. Christ?

  1027. Who

  1028. needs

  1029. the Holy

  1030. Spirit?

  1031. For

  1032. the

  1033. person

  1034. who

  1035. instigated,

  1036. decided,

  1037. and it

  1038. happened.

  1039. And all

  1040. they have

  1041. to do is

  1042. look at

  1043. the faith

  1044. that they

  1045. have

  1046. created

  1047. and not

  1048. what

  1049. Christ

  1050. has

  1051. done.

  1052. And

  1053. that is

  1054. a false

  1055. sense

  1056. of

  1057. peace.

  1058. Peace

  1059. with God

  1060. is not

  1061. a feeling.

  1062. It's

  1063. not an

  1064. emotional

  1065. peace.

  1066. It's

  1067. not a

  1068. balanced

  1069. life.

  1070. Or

  1071. however

  1072. new age

  1073. thing

  1074. you want

  1075. to say.

  1076. having

  1077. peace

  1078. with

  1079. God

  1080. does

  1081. not

  1082. give

  1083. you

  1084. a

  1085. happy

  1086. life

  1087. or

  1088. a

  1089. perfect

  1090. life.

  1091. In fact,

  1092. having

  1093. peace

  1094. with

  1095. God

  1096. will

  1097. actually

  1098. make

  1099. this

  1100. life

  1101. more

  1102. difficult

  1103. because

  1104. you are

  1105. now a

  1106. Christian

  1107. proclaiming

  1108. Christ

  1109. with the

  1110. title

  1111. that you

  1112. take.

  1113. you are

  1114. now a

  1115. cross

  1116. bearer

  1117. and a

  1118. person

  1119. with

  1120. Christ

  1121. who

  1122. is

  1123. hated

  1124. and

  1125. will

  1126. be

  1127. hated

  1128. by

  1129. this

  1130. world.

  1131. Peace

  1132. with

  1133. God

  1134. is

  1135. more

  1136. about

  1137. the

  1138. life

  1139. to

  1140. come

  1141. and

  1142. less

  1143. about

  1144. how

  1145. comfortable

  1146. you

  1147. are

  1148. in

  1149. this

  1150. life.

  1151. man

  1152. who

  1153. has

  1154. false

  1155. peace

  1156. is

  1157. only

  1158. interested

  1159. in

  1160. forgiveness

  1161. and

  1162. not

  1163. in

  1164. righteousness.

  1165. He

  1166. doesn't

  1167. want to

  1168. go to

  1169. hell.

  1170. So

  1171. he

  1172. wants

  1173. to be

  1174. forgiven.

  1175. He's

  1176. not

  1177. concerned

  1178. with

  1179. being

  1180. holy

  1181. and

  1182. walking

  1183. in

  1184. holiness.

  1185. So

  1186. he

  1187. lives

  1188. a

  1189. negligent

  1190. life

  1191. without

  1192. concern

  1193. for

  1194. the

  1195. commands

  1196. of

  1197. God.

  1198. He

  1199. ignores

  1200. warnings

  1201. like

  1202. Hebrews

    Hebrews 12:14

  1203. 12

  1204. verse

  1205. 14

  1206. to

  1207. strive

  1208. for

  1209. peace

  1210. with

  1211. everyone

  1212. and

  1213. for

  1214. the

  1215. holiness

  1216. without

  1217. which

  1218. no

  1219. one

  1220. will

  1221. see

  1222. the

  1223. Lord.

  1224. He

  1225. is

  1226. only

  1227. interested

  1228. in

  1229. forgiveness

  1230. and

  1231. cares

  1232. nothing

  1233. about

  1234. living

  1235. the

  1236. Christian

  1237. life.

  1238. Well,

  1239. I've

  1240. been

  1241. saved.

  1242. I

  1243. can

  1244. live

  1245. however

  1246. I

  1247. want

  1248. now.

  1249. The

  1250. last

  1251. characteristic

  1252. of

  1253. false

  1254. peace

  1255. is

  1256. not

  1257. caring

  1258. enough

  1259. when

  1260. you

  1261. fall

  1262. into

  1263. sin.

  1264. You

  1265. take

  1266. it

  1267. much

  1268. too

  1269. lightly.

  1270. A

  1271. person

  1272. with

  1273. a

  1274. false

  1275. peace

  1276. isn't

  1277. shaken

  1278. by

  1279. their

  1280. sin.

  1281. It

  1282. doesn't

  1283. affect

  1284. them.

  1285. Jesus

  1286. and

  1287. his

  1288. blood

  1289. are

  1290. more

  1291. of a

  1292. security

  1293. blanket

  1294. and

  1295. less

  1296. a

  1297. relationship

  1298. and a

  1299. right

  1300. standing

  1301. before

  1302. God.

  1303. When

  1304. this

  1305. man

  1306. does

  1307. fall

  1308. into

  1309. sin

  1310. he

  1311. would

  1312. say

  1313. something

  1314. like

  1315. it's

  1316. alright

  1317. the

  1318. blood

  1319. of

  1320. Jesus

  1321. covers

  1322. me.

  1323. Now

  1324. and

  1325. he

  1326. continues

  1327. on

  1328. in

  1329. his

  1330. life

  1331. he

  1332. continues

  1333. living

  1334. and

  1335. just

  1336. goes

  1337. on

  1338. doesn't

  1339. confess

  1340. doesn't

  1341. repent

  1342. now

  1343. all

  1344. of

  1345. us

  1346. should

  1347. do

  1348. this

  1349. when

  1350. we're

  1351. in

  1352. sin

  1353. we

  1354. should

  1355. say

  1356. Jesus

  1357. blood

  1358. covers

  1359. me

  1360. it's

  1361. I'm

  1362. still

  1363. okay

  1364. but

  1365. then

  1366. we

  1367. should

  1368. confess

  1369. !

  1370. that

  1371. sin

  1372. we

  1373. should

  1374. repent

  1375. of

  1376. that

  1377. sin

  1378. not

  1379. move

  1380. on

  1381. with

  1382. our

  1383. life

  1384. and

  1385. take

  1386. care

  1387. of

  1388. it

  1389. later

  1390. or

  1391. say

  1392. we'll

  1393. take

  1394. care

  1395. of

  1396. it

  1397. later

  1398. we

  1399. should

  1400. there

  1401. should

  1402. be

  1403. some

  1404. mourning

  1405. over

  1406. our

  1407. sin

  1408. not

  1409. tears

  1410. but

  1411. we

  1412. should

  1413. be

  1414. saddened

  1415. by

  1416. and

  1417. moved

  1418. by

  1419. the

  1420. sin

  1421. that

  1422. we

  1423. have

  1424. committed

  1425. because

  1426. a

  1427. holy

  1428. God

  1429. has

  1430. paid

  1431. for

  1432. that

  1433. sin

  1434. Matthew

  1435. says

  1436. blessed

  1437. are

  1438. those

  1439. who

  1440. mourn

  1441. for

  1442. they

  1443. shall

  1444. be

  1445. comforted

  1446. you

  1447. will

  1448. only

  1449. be

  1450. comforted

  1451. by

  1452. Christ

  1453. and

  1454. his

  1455. work

  1456. on

  1457. the

  1458. cross

  1459. because

  1460. you

  1461. have

  1462. peace

  1463. with

  1464. God

  1465. alright

  1466. so

  1467. our

  1468. last

  1469. point

  1470. is

  1471. how

  1472. should

  1473. we

  1474. now

  1475. live

  1476. knowing

  1477. this

  1478. peace

  1479. we

  1480. have

  1481. with

  1482. God

  1483. so

  1484. what

  1485. do

  1486. we

  1487. do

  1488. in

  1489. light

  1490. of

  1491. having

  1492. peace

  1493. with

  1494. God

  1495. and

  1496. I've

  1497. touched

  1498. on

  1499. some

  1500. of

  1501. those

  1502. things

  1503. here's

  1504. some

  1505. practical

  1506. what

  1507. do

  1508. we

  1509. do

  1510. now

  1511. the

  1512. first

  1513. thing

  1514. is

  1515. we

  1516. must

  1517. always

  1518. be

  1519. aware

  1520. of

  1521. our

  1522. sin

  1523. and

  1524. the

  1525. sin

  1526. around

  1527. us

  1528. we

  1529. must

  1530. always

  1531. be

  1532. aware

  1533. must

  1534. be

  1535. a

  1536. seriousness

  1537. over

  1538. sin

  1539. if

  1540. you

  1541. know

  1542. and

  1543. understand

  1544. the

  1545. peace

  1546. that

  1547. God

  1548. has

  1549. given

  1550. you

  1551. then

  1552. you've

  1553. been

  1554. given

  1555. a

  1556. glimpse

  1557. into

  1558. hell

  1559. you've

  1560. been

  1561. given

  1562. a

  1563. small

  1564. picture

  1565. of

  1566. what

  1567. you

  1568. deserve

  1569. and

  1570. in

  1571. light

  1572. of

  1573. that

  1574. you

  1575. now

  1576. see

  1577. the

  1578. grace

  1579. that

  1580. God

  1581. has

  1582. shown

  1583. you

  1584. and

  1585. given

  1586. you

  1587. and

  1588. if

  1589. you

  1590. know

  1591. that

  1592. then

  1593. you

  1594. won't

  1595. be

  1596. lighthearted

  1597. about

  1598. sin

  1599. you

  1600. won't

  1601. be

  1602. frivolous

  1603. about

  1604. your

  1605. actions

  1606. and

  1607. those

  1608. actions

  1609. of

  1610. others

  1611. around

  1612. you

  1613. so

  1614. we

  1615. must

  1616. always

  1617. be

  1618. aware

  1619. of

  1620. our

  1621. sin

  1622. we

  1623. must

  1624. always

  1625. be

  1626. in

  1627. awe

  1628. of

  1629. the

  1630. grace

  1631. that

  1632. God

  1633. has

  1634. shown

  1635. us

  1636. amazement

  1637. and

  1638. wonder

  1639. will

  1640. be

  1641. the

  1642. songs

  1643. that

  1644. we

  1645. sing

  1646. we'll

  1647. proclaim

  1648. the

  1649. good

  1650. news

  1651. because

  1652. of

  1653. what

  1654. God

  1655. has

  1656. done

  1657. we'll

  1658. echo

  1659. the

  1660. words

  1661. of

  1662. Charles

  1663. Wesley

  1664. and

  1665. his

  1666. hymn

  1667. and

  1668. can

  1669. it

  1670. be

  1671. that

  1672. I

  1673. should

  1674. gain

  1675. an

  1676. interest

  1677. in

  1678. the

  1679. Savior's

  1680. blood

  1681. died

  1682. he

  1683. for

  1684. me

  1685. who

  1686. caused

  1687. his

  1688. pain

  1689. for

  1690. me

  1691. who

  1692. him

  1693. to

  1694. death

  1695. pursued

  1696. amazing

  1697. love

  1698. how

  1699. can

  1700. it

  1701. be

  1702. that

  1703. thou

  1704. my

  1705. God

  1706. should

  1707. die

  1708. for

  1709. me

  1710. echoing

  1711. the

  1712. amazement

  1713. and

  1714. they

  1715. awe

  1716. in

  1717. the

  1718. wonder

  1719. of

  1720. what

  1721. God

  1722. has

  1723. done

  1724. not

  1725. only

  1726. that

  1727. we

  1728. must

  1729. also

  1730. be

  1731. humble

  1732. now

  1733. this

  1734. of

  1735. course

  1736. isn't

  1737. something

  1738. that

  1739. we

  1740. just

  1741. can

  1742. do

  1743. or

  1744. be

  1745. we

  1746. can't

  1747. just

  1748. be

  1749. humble

  1750. we

  1751. can

  1752. act

  1753. humble

  1754. but

  1755. we

  1756. cannot

  1757. be

  1758. humble

  1759. and

  1760. it

  1761. comes

  1762. from

  1763. being

  1764. amazed

  1765. and in

  1766. awe

  1767. of what

  1768. God

  1769. has

  1770. done

  1771. when we

  1772. when we

  1773. realize

  1774. the truth

  1798. destroys

  1799. boasting

  1800. it is

  1801. all by

  2174. together

  2175. with

  2180. i

  2181. pray

  2182. that

  2186. to

  2187. move

  2188. among

  2189. us

  2190. continue

  2191. to

  2192. speak

  2193. to

  2194. our

  2195. hearts

  2196. about

  2197. this

  2198. peace

  2207. truth

  2208. to

  2209. know

  2210. that

  2211. no

  2212. matter

  2213. what

  2214. I

  2215. do

  2216. what

  2217. I

  2218. say

  2219. cannot

  2220. change

  2221. the

  2222. grace

  2223. and

  2224. love

  2225. that

  2226. you

  2227. have

  2228. for

  2229. me

  2230. and

  2231. cannot

  2232. change

  2233. the

  2234. peace

  2235. that

  2236. I

  2237. stand

  2238. in

  2239. Christ

  2240. and

  2244. of

  2245. my

  2246. own

  2247. I

  2248. pray

  2249. that

  2250. you

  2251. are

  2252. pleased

  2253. and

  2254. honored

  2255. by

  2256. the

  2257. rest

  2258. of

  2259. this

  2260. morning

  2261. the

  2262. songs

  2263. that

  2267. honoring

  2268. and

  2269. worshiping

  2270. of

  2271. you

  2272. but

  2273. more

  2274. than

  2275. that

  2276. the

  2277. hearts

  2278. that

  2279. are

  2280. singing

  2281. those

  2285. pleasing

  2286. to

  2287. you

  2288. pray

  2289. God

  2290. that

  2291. you

  2292. are

  2293. pleased

  2294. as

  2295. we

  2296. celebrate

  2297. and

  2298. partake

  2299. in

  2300. what

  2301. we

  2302. call

  2303. the

  2304. Lord

  2305. supper

  2306. celebrating

  2307. what

  2308. Christ

  2309. has

  2310. done

  2311. I

  2312. pray

  2313. that

  2314. no

  2315. one

  2316. in

  2317. here

  2318. takes

  2319. it

  2320. for

  2321. granted

  2322. but

  2323. we

  2324. all

  2325. reflect

  2326. and

  2327. examine

  2328. the

  2329. love

  2330. that

  2331. you

  2332. have

  2333. shown

  2334. us

  2335. in

  2336. Christ

  2337. and

  2338. it

  2339. is

  2340. his

  2341. name

  2342. I

  2343. pray

  2344. Amen
