  1. I'm really fortunate, as I've said before, to have some depth of preaching here at Christ Family Church.

  2. It was so nice to take a little break as Sam and I had Judah to get to focus a little bit of energy on that,

  3. but also to get to hear some great gifted men come to us and speak about the Spirit of God.

  4. We're bringing that to a close.

  5. We're starting to get to the end of that subject matter, although we're not there quite yet.

  6. Let's read together verse 12 and verse 13 of chapter 8.

  7. So then, brothers, we are debtors, not to the flesh to live according to the flesh.

  8. For if you live according to the flesh, you will die.

  9. But if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live.

  10. And so we see Paul draw a conclusion in verse 12 that we are no longer indebted to live by the flesh.

  11. He's made that argument to us leading up to this point.

  12. Chapter 8, verse 10 and 11.

  13. But if Christ is in you, although the body is dead because of sin, the Spirit is life because of righteousness.

  14. If the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you,

  15. He who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you.

  16. Previously, in chapter 6, verse 17 and 18, he wrote,

  17. But thanks be to God that you who were once slaves of sin have become obedient from the heart to the standard of teaching to which you were committed,

  18. and having been set free from sin have become slaves of righteousness.

  19. So the conclusion that he's bringing us to after he's said all this is that the bondage of sin has been ended.

  20. We're no longer debtors to the flesh to live according to the flesh.

  21. And the implication, then, is that we're debtors to righteousness, to the Spirit.

  22. As he says in verse 18 of chapter 6, we have become slaves of righteousness.

  23. In verse 13, he expands upon that idea a bit.

  24. And I want to give to you this morning five observations from verse 13.

  25. We see that a duty is given to a specific person for a certain promise to be fulfilled by certain means,

  26. if it is fulfilled at all.

  27. But I think it's best for us to look at those things, those things we can see in the text,

  28. in the order given to us in the inspired text.

  29. And so that's what we'll do this morning.

  30. So number one, we see the conditions of the duty, the promise, and the means.

  31. You see the little phrase halfway through verse 13,

  32. But if.

  33. But if.

  34. This phrase can denote one of two things to us.

  35. One, the uncertainty of the thing promised.

  36. The thing promised in this case being that you will live.

  37. It could denote that.

  38. But how could that possibly be the case?

  39. We've seen in verse 1 of chapter 8,

  40. there is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ.

  41. The second thing that it could denote, and it does,

  42. is the certainty of the thing promised.

  43. As we would say to a sick man,

  44. if you take this medicine, it will make you well.

  45. Certainly we don't mean it might make you well.

  46. I think possibly this medicine will make you well.

  47. But rather we intend to express with certainty the connection between taking the medication and the health,

  48. the means and the end.

  49. Now God determines the end.

  50. For those who are found in Christ Jesus,

  51. we will finish this race.

  52. We will be sons and daughters of righteousness.

  53. But that doesn't negate the means by which that happens.

  54. Our perfection is obtained by means.

  55. There are many gifted athletes in the world,

  56. and we use that term fairly regularly with athletes,

  57. that they're gifted.

  58. They have some ability that others may not have.

  59. I've never really been a gifted athlete.

  60. The few activities that I've had any success in at all,

  61. I had to work really hard at being even mediocre at.

  62. But there are athletes that are gifted.

  63. Take sprinters, for example.

  64. Those men are amazing at how fast they can run.

  65. Did you know that all sprinters have a particular type of foot?

  66. Their gait is what you would call a supinating foot.

  67. And simply all it means is that their foot acts more like a springboard

  68. than the typical human beings does.

  69. That was given to them as a gift.

  70. But they have to employ it, don't they?

  71. They have to work at that.

  72. You know what?

  73. My feet supinate.

  74. I'm not all that fast.

  75. I think I could be.

  76. But I would certainly have to work at that.

  77. I would have to work out and have those ginormo quads,

  78. you know, to be a sprinter.

  79. It takes effort on our part,

  80. even though it was given to us as a gift.

  81. And certainly, as we look at this little phrase,

  82. but if, no one has ever won a race,

  83. ever that they didn't compete in.

  84. If you're going to win the race,

  85. you must compete in the race.

  86. And we can take rest and have joy in the fact

  87. that the race,

  88. the end of the race,

  89. has been determined already.

  90. We know we win.

  91. We just must run.

  92. Get there.

  93. So the conditions of the duty,

  94. the promise,

  95. and the means.

  96. Number two.

  97. We see the duty is given

  98. to a specific person.

  99. And that person is

  100. you.

  101. You to whom there is therefore now no condemnation.

  102. In verse 1, chapter 8.

  103. You who are not in the flesh,

  104. but in the spirit.

  105. Verse 9, chapter 8.

  106. You who have been given life

  107. by the spirit of Christ.

  108. In verses 10 and 11.

  109. Those of you who have placed your faith in Christ.

  110. This is who Paul is talking to.

  111. All of us,

  112. I hope and pray,

  113. is who he's talking to.

  114. If you is not you in this case,

  115. if you are not found in Christ,

  116. don't have the spirit of God dwelling within you,

  117. get that right this morning.

  118. Turn from your sin.

  119. Turn to God.

  120. Repent and believe

  121. that he is the only way to life.

  122. But if you have placed your faith in God,

  123. this is who he is talking to.

  124. I read a bit this past couple of weeks.

  125. There is a wonderful book

  126. that I would suggest to you

  127. by John Owen called

  128. Of the Mortification of Sin in Believers.

  129. I really appreciate old books

  130. because the title is always so descriptive

  131. as to what he's talking about.

  132. They don't give some kind of cryptic title.

  133. Of the Mortification of Sin in Believers.

  134. And from this,

  135. he took his thesis statement

  136. for the entire book.

  137. He said,

  138. The choicest believers

  139. who are assuredly freed

  140. from the condemning power of sin

  141. ought yet to make it their business

  142. all their days

  143. to mortify or put to death

  144. the indwelling power of sin.

  145. So, sinners who are assuredly free

  146. have definitely been freed

  147. from the power of sin

  148. ought yet to make it,

  149. even though they should make it

  150. their very business

  151. to put to death

  152. the sin in their life.

  153. So, he is talking to you.

  154. Number three.

  155. The means by which

  156. the duty is fulfilled.

  157. So, how is it

  158. that we fulfill this duty

  159. which we have not yet talked about at length?

  160. But how is it

  161. that we do this?

  162. And that is

  163. by the Spirit.

  164. That is by the Spirit.

  165. The very Spirit of God

  166. that dwells within us.

  167. We have no capability

  168. of our own

  169. to do this task.

  170. To kill the sin in us

  171. is impossible on our own

  172. because we are sin.

  173. Our flesh thrives

  174. off that.

  175. It is our nature.

  176. We inherit it

  177. from Adam

  178. at the fall.

  179. We were born

  180. in sin.

  181. And therefore,

  182. we cannot accomplish

  183. this task

  184. apart from the indwelling work

  185. of the Spirit of God.

  186. John Owen said

  187. in the same book,

  188. Mortification

  189. from a self-strength

  190. carried on by ways

  191. of self-invention

  192. unto the end

  193. of a self-righteousness

  194. is the soul

  195. and substance

  196. of all false religion

  197. in the world.

  198. And I fear

  199. that we often

  200. find ourselves

  201. in that place.

  202. I know I do.

  203. I forget

  204. how desperately

  205. I need

  206. the power of God

  207. to work in me

  208. to put to death

  209. the sin in my life.

  210. And I trick myself.

  211. I become disillusioned

  212. to think

  213. that somehow

  214. I can do it

  215. on my own.

  216. I believe

  217. that's the shared

  218. Christian experience.

  219. I think we all

  220. go through that.

  221. And we all

  222. fail

  223. miserably

  224. time

  225. and time

  226. again.

  227. And you know why?

  228. Because we try

  229. to do it

  230. and we can't.

  231. For the Spirit

  232. of God

  233. dwelling within us

  234. gives us the power

  235. to live this way.

  236. So He is

  237. the means.

  238. Galatians 5.17

  239. Paul writes,

  240. For the desires

  241. of the flesh

  242. are against

  243. the Spirit

  244. and the desires

  245. of the Spirit

  246. are against

  247. the flesh.

  248. For these are

  249. opposed to each

  250. other

  251. to keep you

  252. from doing

  253. the things

  254. you want

  255. to do.

  256. or the things

  257. you are

  258. inclined to do.

  259. The things

  260. you do

  261. by

  262. your

  263. nature.

  264. It's why

  265. we have

  266. the Spirit

  267. because the Spirit

  268. opposes

  269. our flesh.

  270. To fulfill

  271. a duty.

  272. Number four.

  273. A duty

  274. is given

  275. to us

  276. which is

  277. to put

  278. to death

  279. the deeds

  280. of the body.

  281. To put

  282. to death

  283. the deeds

  284. of the body.

  285. And what is He

  286. talking about

  287. when He says

  288. that?

  289. body.

  290. He means

  291. our flesh

  292. which doesn't

  293. mean the

  294. physical

  295. body.

  296. There are

  297. righteous

  298. deeds

  299. of the flesh

  300. preaching to you

  301. with my hands

  302. for example.

  303. My flesh

  304. is carrying

  305. out.

  306. That's not

  307. what He

  308. means.

  309. He means

  310. the sin

  311. nature

  312. part of us.

  313. We're to

  314. put that

  315. to death.

  316. Galatians 5

  317. 19-21

  318. Paul says

  319. now the

  320. works

  321. of the

  322. flesh

  323. are

  324. evident.

  325. Sexual

  326. immorality,

  327. impurity,

  328. sensuality,

  329. idolatry,

  330. sorcery,

  331. enmity,

  332. strife,

  333. jealousy,

  334. fits of

  335. anger,

  336. rivalries,

  337. dissensions,

  338. divisions,

  339. envy,

  340. drunkenness,

  341. orgies,

  342. and things

  343. like these.

  344. Those are

  345. the deeds

  346. of the

  347. flesh.

  348. The things

  349. that are

  350. set against

  351. God.

  352. The

  353. unrighteousness

  354. that we

  355. commit

  356. apart from

  357. the work

  358. of the

  359. Spirit

  360. within us.

  361. And so

  362. we're called

  363. to put it

  364. to death,

  365. to mortify

  366. it.

  367. Phenetau

  368. is the

  369. Greek word.

  370. And it

  371. means to

  372. render

  373. lifeless.

  374. To take

  375. away the

  376. very life

  377. force of

  378. something or

  379. the power

  380. of something.

  381. is what

  382. that means.

  383. To find

  384. our sin

  385. nature

  386. powerless

  387. is what it

  388. means to

  389. put to

  390. death

  391. the deeds

  392. of the

  393. body.

  394. How do

  395. we do

  396. that?

  397. Nathan,

  398. how is that

  399. practical?

  400. What must

  401. I do

  402. to use

  403. the Spirit

  404. to put to

  405. death

  406. the deeds

  407. of the

  408. flesh?

  409. I think

  410. we,

  411. in a lot

  412. of ways,

  413. over-mysticize

  414. Christianity.

  415. We're

  416. looking for

  417. the special

  418. key to

  419. tap into

  420. the power

  421. of the

  422. Spirit of

  423. God in

  424. our lives.

  425. He is

  426. ours and

  427. He dwells

  428. within us.

  429. Turn with

  430. me to

  431. Colossians

    Colossians 3 chapter mention

  432. chapter 3.

  433. chapter 3.

  434. 1.

  435. If then you

  436. have been

  437. raised with

  438. Christ,

  439. seek the

  440. things that

  441. are above,

  442. where Christ

  443. is,

  444. seated at

  445. the right

  446. hand of

  447. God.

  448. Set your

  449. minds on

  450. things that

  451. are above,

  452. not on

  453. things that

  454. are on

  455. earth.

  456. For you

  457. have died

  458. and your

  459. life is

  460. hidden with

  461. Christ in

  462. God.

  463. When Christ

  464. who is your

  465. life appears,

  466. then you

  467. also will

  468. appear with

  469. Him in

  470. glory.

  471. Put to

  472. death,

  473. therefore,

  474. what is

  475. earthly in

  476. you,

  477. sexual

  478. immorality,

  479. impurity,

  480. passion,

  481. evil desire,

  482. and covetousness,

  483. which is

  484. idolatry.

  485. On account of

  486. these things,

  487. the wrath of

  488. God is

  489. coming.

  490. In these

  491. you too

  492. once walked

  493. when you

  494. were living

  495. in them,

  496. but now

  497. you must

  498. put them

  499. all away.

  500. Anger,

  501. wrath,

  502. malice,

  503. slander,

  504. and obscene

  505. talk from

  506. your mouth.

  507. Do not

  508. lie to

  509. one another,

  510. seeing that

  511. you have

  512. put off the

  513. old self

  514. with its

  515. practices

  516. and have

  517. put on

  518. the new

  519. self,

  520. which is

  521. being renewed

  522. in knowledge

  523. after the

  524. image of

  525. its creator.

  526. Here there

  527. is not

  528. Greek and

  529. Jew,

  530. circumcised

  531. and uncircumcised,

  532. barbarian,

  533. Scythian,

  534. slave,

  535. free,

  536. but Christ

  537. is all

  538. and in

  539. all.

  540. Put on

  541. then,

  542. as God's

  543. chosen ones,

  544. holy and

  545. beloved,

  546. compassionate

  547. hearts,

  548. kindness,

  549. humility,

  550. meekness,

  551. and patience,

  552. bearing with

  553. one another,

  554. and if

  555. one has

  556. a complaint

  557. against

  558. another,

  559. forgiving

  560. each other

  561. as the

  562. Lord has

  563. forgiven

  564. you,

  565. so you

  566. also must

  567. forgive.

  568. And above

  569. all these,

  570. put on

  571. love,

  572. which binds

  573. everything

  574. together in

  575. perfect harmony.

  576. And let

  577. the peace

  578. of Christ

  579. rule your

  580. hearts,

  581. to which

  582. indeed you

  583. were called

  584. in one

  585. body,

  586. and be

  587. thankful.

  588. Let the

  589. word of

  590. Christ

  591. will in

  592. you

  593. richly

  594. teaching

  595. and

  596. admonishing

  597. one

  598. another

  599. in all

  600. wisdom,

  601. singing

  602. psalms

  603. and hymns

  604. and spiritual

  605. songs with

  606. thankfulness

  607. in your

  608. hearts to

  609. God.

  610. And whatever

  611. you do

  612. in word

  613. or deed,

  614. do everything

  615. in the name

  616. of the

  617. Lord Jesus,

  618. giving thanks

  619. to God

  620. the Father

  621. through Him.

  622. Now let me

  623. draw your

  624. attention

  625. to a

  626. phrase.

  627. Phrases.

  628. Firstly,

  629. in verse

  630. 10,

  631. Paul instructs

  632. us to put

  633. on the new

  634. self.

  635. He's speaking

  636. of our

  637. identity.

  638. We have,

  639. in fact,

  640. been,

  641. our old

  642. self has

  643. died.

  644. Verse 3,

  645. for you

  646. have died

  647. and your

  648. life is

  649. hidden

  650. with Christ

  651. and God.

  652. So we have

  653. to put

  654. on the

  655. new

  656. self,

  657. which is

  658. being

  659. renewed

  660. in

  661. knowledge

  662. after the

  663. image of

  664. its

  665. creator.

  666. It's

  667. being

  668. renewed

  669. in

  670. knowledge.

  671. The way

  672. to our

  673. hearts

  674. is through

  675. our

  676. minds.

  677. So we

  678. must know

  679. how it is

  680. that a

  681. Christian

  682. should live.

  683. And what

  684. is his

  685. instruction

  686. then in

  687. that?

  688. To put

  689. on those

  690. things.

  691. Notice

  692. that he

  693. gives us

  694. a list

  695. of things

  696. to put

  697. on then

  698. as God's

  699. chosen ones

  700. in verse

  701. 12.

  702. These

  703. things.

  704. And then

  705. in verse

  706. 14 he

  707. says,

  708. and above

  709. all these

  710. put on

  711. love.

  712. So what

  713. does it

  714. mean to

  715. put on

  716. the new

  717. self?

  718. It means

  719. to put

  720. on these

  721. activities

  722. in our

  723. life.

  724. As we're

  725. putting off

  726. the old

  727. self,

  728. putting it

  729. away,

  730. putting it

  731. to death

  732. in verse

  733. 5.

  734. We're

  735. to be

  736. putting

  737. on

  738. the new

  739. self.

  740. So for

  741. those of

  742. you who

  743. are visual

  744. learners,

  745. we don't

  746. often do

  747. visuals,

  748. I'm going

  749. to do a

  750. visual for

  751. you this

  752. morning.

  753. We're

  754. to put

  755. off the

  756. old self.

  757. Note that

  758. I'm taking

  759. my shirt

  760. off.

  761. I have

  762. a shirt

  763. on

  764. underneath.

  765. We're

  766. to put

  767. it off.

  768. We're

  769. to take

  770. it off.

  771. That

  772. phrasing

  773. there,

  774. put

  775. off the

  776. old

  777. self on

  778. verse

  779. 9,

  780. is much

  781. stronger

  782. than the

  783. language we

  784. see in

  785. English.

  786. The

  787. Greek term

  788. is,

  789. I don't

  790. know,

  791. I forgot

  792. it actually.

  793. Where's

  794. it at?

  795. Oh,

  796. I didn't

  797. write it

  798. down.

  799. It doesn't

  800. matter.

  801. It's a

  802. stronger

  803. Greek word.

  804. And it

  805. doesn't just

  806. mean to

  807. take off

  808. the old

  809. self and

  810. lay it

  811. over the

  812. back of

  813. your chair

  814. as I

  815. come and

  816. do in

  817. my room,

  818. throw it

  819. in the

  820. hamper.

  821. It means

  822. literally to

  823. wholly put

  824. it away,

  825. to cast

  826. it away.

  827. Putting

  828. off the

  829. old self

  830. doesn't look

  831. like this.

  832. Putting

  833. off the

  834. old

  835. self

  836. looks

  837. like

  838. this.

  839. Throw it

  840. away.

  841. Get it

  842. away from

  843. you.

  844. These

  845. things are

  846. not

  847. proper

  848. for one

  849. who is

  850. found

  851. in

  852. Christ.

  853. Now,

  854. all of my

  855. analogies

  856. fall short.

  857. I think

  858. all analogies

  859. do,

  860. and I

  861. always love

  862. to point

  863. out to

  864. you how

  865. they do.

  866. One

  867. way this

  868. analogy

  869. falls short

  870. is I

  871. don't think

  872. there is

  873. any such

  874. thing as

  875. bad

  876. plaid.

  877. That's a

  878. pretty great

  879. shirt I

  880. just throw

  881. away.

  882. The other

  883. way it

  884. falls short

  885. is it

  886. is perfectly

  887. acceptable

  888. for me

  889. to stand

  890. here in

  891. my

  892. t-shirt.

  893. There is

  894. no problem

  895. there.

  896. But,

  897. that's not

  898. how we

  899. function as

  900. humans.

  901. Because what

  902. is it that

  903. we're putting

  904. off?

  905. The old

  906. self,

  907. the deeds

  908. of the

  909. flesh,

  910. so that

  911. we can

  912. put on

  913. the deeds

  914. of the

  915. spirit.

  916. We always

  917. do

  918. deeds.

  919. We're

  920. never

  921. neutral

  922. in this.

  923. I'm

  924. neutral

  925. now in

  926. not

  927. wearing

  928. the

  929. shirt I'm

  930. saying I

  931. should

  932. cast

  933. away and

  934. the shirt

  935. that I

  936. should put

  937. on.

  938. I haven't

  939. put it

  940. on yet,

  941. but that

  942. can't exist

  943. in our

  944. lives.

  945. We will

  946. always be

  947. doing

  948. things.

  949. So as

  950. you put

  951. off,

  952. you must

  953. necessarily

  954. put on

  955. the deeds

  956. of the

  957. spirit.

  958. And that

  959. is the

  960. work that

  961. we are

  962. to be

  963. about.

  964. Not

  965. living by

  966. the

  967. flesh,

  968. but

  969. living by

  970. the

  971. spirit.

  972. it.

  973. I see

  974. a lot

  975. of

  976. Christians

  977. who are

  978. working,

  979. they're

  980. straining

  981. to put

  982. off,

  983. trying not

  984. to do

  985. particular

  986. sins in

  987. their life,

  988. but I

  989. don't see

  990. them

  991. putting on,

  992. replacing

  993. those things

  994. with activity

  995. that is of

  996. God.

  997. If you

  998. are obedient

  999. to Christ's

  1000. calling your

  1001. life,

  1002. you will

  1003. be so

  1004. busy

  1005. doing the

  1006. work of

  1007. the

  1008. spirit,

  1009. you won't

  1010. have time

  1011. to fulfill

  1012. the desire

  1013. for the

  1014. flesh.

  1015. If you

  1016. set yourself

  1017. to all

  1018. these

  1019. things,

  1020. you won't

  1021. be able

  1022. to sin.

  1023. You will

  1024. be so

  1025. occupied

  1026. and caught

  1027. up with

  1028. God and

  1029. his work.

  1030. Now,

  1031. again,

  1032. my analogy

  1033. falls short.

  1034. Could I

  1035. wear two

  1036. shirts?

  1037. Sure.

  1038. Would I

  1039. ever?

  1040. No.

  1041. Does I

  1042. put off

  1043. the old

  1044. self and

  1045. put on

  1046. the new

  1047. self?

  1048. The old

  1049. self stays

  1050. where it

  1051. belongs,

  1052. not on

  1053. me.

  1054. Right?

  1055. That's your

  1056. visual this

  1057. morning.

  1058. So we

  1059. have been

  1060. given a

  1061. duty to

  1062. squelch the

  1063. power of

  1064. the flesh

  1065. in our

  1066. life by

  1067. the Spirit.

  1068. If you

  1069. have a hard

  1070. time doing

  1071. this,

  1072. pray that

  1073. God will

  1074. work in

  1075. you and

  1076. then get

  1077. busy.

  1078. We're

  1079. running the

  1080. race.

  1081. God make

  1082. me fast

  1083. and then

  1084. run.

  1085. I see so

  1086. many of us

  1087. pray that

  1088. God will

  1089. work in

  1090. us and

  1091. then we

  1092. sit and

  1093. we wait.

  1094. God is

  1095. never going

  1096. to pick

  1097. your hands

  1098. up and

  1099. carry you

  1100. over to

  1101. the Bible

  1102. and have

  1103. you open

  1104. it up

  1105. and read.

  1106. God,

  1107. I want to

  1108. live for

  1109. you.

  1110. Start doing

  1111. it.

  1112. And that's

  1113. what Paul's

  1114. saying in

  1115. Colossians.

  1116. Cast off

  1117. the old

  1118. you.

  1119. Put on

  1120. the new

  1121. you.

  1122. Run the

  1123. race.

  1124. Fifthly,

  1125. a promise

  1126. is given

  1127. if the

  1128. duty is

  1129. fulfilled.

  1130. A promise

  1131. is given

  1132. if the

  1133. duty is

  1134. fulfilled.

  1135. This phrase

  1136. stands in

  1137. opposition to

  1138. the beginning

  1139. of verse

  1140. 13.

  1141. Paul says

  1142. if you

  1143. live according

  1144. to the

  1145. flesh,

  1146. you will

  1147. die.

  1148. That is

  1149. certain.

  1150. if your

  1151. life is

  1152. characterized

  1153. by the

  1154. flesh,

  1155. then you

  1156. are not

  1157. found in

  1158. Christ.

  1159. You do

  1160. not have

  1161. his imputed

  1162. righteousness

  1163. and you

  1164. will

  1165. die.

  1166. But if

  1167. you're

  1168. found in

  1169. Christ

  1170. and you

  1171. have

  1172. now no

  1173. condemnation

  1174. and you

  1175. are about

  1176. this work

  1177. which is

  1178. the evidence

  1179. of the

  1180. spirit of

  1181. God

  1182. living

  1183. within

  1184. you,

  1185. then

  1186. you

  1187. will

  1188. live.

  1189. Now,

  1190. I think

  1191. he means

  1192. this in

  1193. two ways.

  1194. that will

  1195. have

  1196. eternal

  1197. life.

  1198. It

  1199. certainly

  1200. means

  1201. that.

  1202. Galatians

  1203. 6,

  1204. 8,

  1205. Paul says

  1206. for the

  1207. one who

  1208. sows to

  1209. his own

  1210. flesh

  1211. will

  1212. from the

  1213. flesh

  1214. reap

  1215. corruption.

  1216. For the

  1217. one who

  1218. sows to

  1219. the

  1220. spirit

  1221. will

  1222. from

  1223. the

  1224. spirit

  1225. reap

  1226. eternal

  1227. life.

  1228. The

  1229. spirit

  1230. is the

  1231. seal

  1232. of God's

  1233. covenant

  1234. love with

  1235. us.

  1236. When we

  1237. stand before

  1238. the judgment

  1239. throne,

  1240. the spirit

  1241. of God

  1242. will be

  1243. the seal

  1244. that we

  1245. have been

  1246. found in

  1247. Christ.

  1248. So,

  1249. it means

  1250. eternal

  1251. life.

  1252. But I

  1253. also think

  1254. that it

  1255. means life

  1256. now.

  1257. The Greek

  1258. word is

  1259. zao,

  1260. I believe,

  1261. which means

  1262. to have

  1263. full vigor.

  1264. The word

  1265. you will

  1266. live is

  1267. this phrase

  1268. and it

  1269. means to

  1270. have full

  1271. vigor.

  1272. So,

  1273. the joy

  1274. and the

  1275. comfort,

  1276. the vigor

  1277. of life

  1278. is ours

  1279. in the

  1280. here and

  1281. now because

  1282. our relationship

  1283. has been

  1284. restored with

  1285. God.

  1286. That very

  1287. thing we

  1288. have been

  1289. created for,

  1290. which is

  1291. to live

  1292. in abject

  1293. worship of

  1294. Him.

  1295. If we

  1296. were incapable

  1297. of doing

  1298. apart from

  1299. Christ,

  1300. we can

  1301. now do.

  1302. So,

  1303. we reap

  1304. the benefit

  1305. and the

  1306. reward

  1307. now.

  1308. The race

  1309. isn't always

  1310. easy,

  1311. is it?

  1312. Struggling

  1313. against sins,

  1314. not always

  1315. easy,

  1316. but in

  1317. it,

  1318. we live.

  1319. 1 Thessalonians

  1320. 3.8

  1321. says,

  1322. for now

  1323. we live

  1324. if you

  1325. are standing

  1326. fast

  1327. in the

  1328. Lord.

  1329. So,

  1330. now

  1331. we live.

  1332. we're

  1333. going to

  1334. eat

  1335. in the

  1336. world.

  1337. We

  1338. have

  1339. a

  1340. time

  1341. to

  1342. !

  1343. See you
