  1. Good morning.

  2. We're going to be in Titus chapter 2.

    Titus 2 chapter mention

  3. I'd like to say Happy Mother's Day to all the moms that are here.

  4. ! If I haven't told you in person, Happy Mother's Day.

  5. As I studied and thought about this week and this morning,

  6. what I was going to say,

  7. I watched my wife, Jamie, mother, our four kids.

  8. Moms, you do a whole lot.

  9. You do an amazing amount of stuff and you guys are amazing.

  10. Thank you for everything that you guys do.

  11. Honestly, we wouldn't be here if it wasn't for you guys in so many levels.

  12. This morning, we want to honor moms.

  13. We want to celebrate our moms and the moms that are represented.

  14. So Titus 2 is where we're going to be.

  15. Verses 3 through 5.

  16. We're going to look at what a godly woman looks like.

  17. So what characteristics does she display?

  18. And why does she live that way?

  19. As we look at a godly woman, my hope is that you'll be encouraged to think of your mom or think of yourself.

  20. Be encouraged to love on them this morning.

  21. If as I'm talking, something I say reminds you of your mom, celebrate that.

  22. If as I'm talking, you aren't reminded of your mom at all.

  23. Maybe she's not a Christian yet.

  24. Thank God for her.

  25. Pray for her.

  26. Pray for opportunities to share the gospel with her.

  27. Don't get angry because your mom isn't godly yet.

  28. Don't beat her up in your head.

  29. Celebrate the gift of your mom and love her.

  30. If you're a mom, I want to encourage you this morning and not discourage you.

  31. I want to challenge you, not handcuff you.

  32. And if you're going to be a mom someday, about 60% of you in this room, maybe 50% of you in this room,

  33. listen and file this away.

  34. Revisit it and pray for when that time comes when you will be a mom.

  35. Guys, I know that you're thinking this has nothing to do with me.

  36. Well, not so fast.

  37. The subject may be moms, but the principles apply to you and I as well.

  38. So we all can be challenged this morning.

  39. Let's read our text.

  40. Titus chapter 2, verse 3 through 5.

    Titus 2:3–5

  41. Older women, likewise, are to be reverent in behavior,

  42. not slanderers or slaves to much wine.

  43. They are to teach what is good,

  44. and so train the young women to love their husbands and children,

  45. to be self-controlled, pure, working at home,

  46. kind and submissive to their own husbands,

  47. that the word of God may not be reviled.

  48. Pray with me.

  49. Father, I thank you for this time.

  50. I thank you that you have called us here to gather together.

  51. Father, I thank you that you have united us through your Son, Jesus,

  52. through the Holy Spirit that you sent.

  53. God, I ask God that the Spirit would work,

  54. that we can hear, not just with ears,

  55. but with our entire being, with our lives,

  56. God, that we would leave here ready for action,

  57. leave here to live differently because of your word.

  58. And God, not because of what I say or my opinions,

  59. but God, that I would speak your words this morning

  60. and that what is spoken will be from you to us.

  61. There is power in your word.

  62. There is conviction in your word.

  63. There is counsel in your word.

  64. God, we ask you to work,

  65. and your will would be done this morning.

  66. In Jesus' name I pray.

  67. Amen.

  68. So let's just jump in.

  69. Verse 3 starts with older women.

  70. Now here's a little bit of encouragement to you older women in here

  71. on our standards.

  72. In Paul's standards here, writing to Titus,

  73. older women is 60 to 65.

  74. So if you're under 60 or 65, you're young.

  75. You're a young woman, not an older woman.

  76. Women who have, Paul is addressing or addressing Titus,

  77. is talking about women who no longer have kids in their home,

  78. who are no longer raising kids,

  79. and encouraging them to love the younger women.

  80. So what I want to do is look at what a godly woman looks like.

  81. As Paul is addressing to Titus some needs here,

  82. Titus is a pastor in Crete.

  83. He's left in here very similar to Timothy in Ephesus.

  84. He's left Titus to be the pastor or elder on the island of Crete.

  85. And he's given him some instruction,

  86. and Titus and the two Timothys are very similar in that way.

  87. If you've read 1 or 2 Timothy, you can kind of see that.

  88. So here he gives him instruction on older women,

  89. how they are to live.

  90. And I've changed it a little bit for us to look at what a godly woman looks like,

  91. so that it can apply to the young women in here,

  92. the young women described in our text,

  93. and even us guys,

  94. of what does a godly woman look like.

  95. So the first point this morning,

  96. a godly woman is in pursuit of holiness.

  97. A godly woman is in pursuit of holiness.

  98. Now of course, no one is perfect.

  99. No one is holy.

  100. Your mom may be wonderful, but she is not perfect.

  101. She can, though, as a Christian, pursue holiness,

  102. pursue perfection, strive to be sinless,

  103. strive to be godly.

  104. A godly woman strives to honor God in all circumstances,

  105. in all situations.

  106. So let's look at some of this language in these three verses.

  107. In verse 3 it says,

  108. Older women, likewise, are to be reverent in behavior.

  109. Godly examples of holiness.

  110. Flip back two books to 1 Timothy.

  111. To the left, two books.

  112. 1 Timothy chapter 2.

    1 Timothy 2 chapter mention

  113. Start reading in verse 9.

  114. Likewise, also that women should adorn themselves

  115. in respectable apparel with modesty and self-control.

  116. Not with beaded hair and gold or pearls or costly attire,

  117. but with what is proper for women who profess godliness

  118. with good works.

  119. Reverent in behavior.

  120. A couple words there in 1 Timothy.

  121. Profess godliness, modesty, self-control.

  122. An example of what a godly person looks like.

  123. An example of holiness.

  124. Reverent in behavior.

  125. In 1 Peter chapter 3.

    1 Peter 3 chapter mention

  126. 1 Peter writes,

  127. Do not let your adorning be external.

  128. The braiding of hair and the putting on of gold jewelry

  129. or the clothing you wear.

  130. But let your adorning be the hidden person of the heart.

  131. With the imperishable beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit,

  132. which in God's sight is very precious.

  133. A woman who is pursuing holiness is more concerned

  134. with the inner being.

  135. What's happening on the inside.

  136. What's happening in the heart.

  137. Not the outside apparel.

  138. Not the braided hair or the jewelry or the gold or whatever.

  139. All that stuff is secondary.

  140. She is reverent in behavior.

  141. And her behavior reflects what's happening on the inside of her.

  142. What God is doing in her.

  143. Through her.

  144. She is reverent in behavior.

  145. Verse 3 also says,

  146. Not slanderers.

  147. She's not a false accuser.

  148. She's not a malicious gossip.

  149. See, men are inclined to abuse physically.

  150. We'll throw a punch pretty quick.

  151. Women are inclined to abuse verbally.

  152. Of course, we're both guilty of gossip

  153. and the sin of entertaining gossip.

  154. But here, Paul is addressing this malicious gossip.

  155. A godly woman is not a slanderer.

  156. A slave to much wine, later in verse 3.

  157. Does not mean she doesn't drink wine.

  158. It means she is not controlled by wine or anything else.

  159. Food.

  160. TV.

  161. Shopping.

  162. Couponing.

  163. It's a big deal right now, right?

  164. See, we are so sinful as creatures

  165. that we turn good things into God things

  166. that makes them bad things.

  167. We turn couponing into bad things.

  168. We make it a God.

  169. We make it something we have to do.

  170. And what happens as a result is we make it a bad thing.

  171. We make it an idol.

  172. We worship it.

  173. We become enslaved to it.

  174. And that's the picture here,

  175. what Paul is trying to get across.

  176. Slave to much wine.

  177. It's not the fact that she drinks.

  178. So that she doesn't drink.

  179. That's secondary here.

  180. She is controlled.

  181. She is enslaved to it.

  182. Definition of slave is to be held and controlled

  183. against one's will.

  184. It's more of a prison than a means of escape.

  185. I have a co-worker.

  186. I'll call him a co-worker

  187. because I've worked with him a couple days.

  188. who,

  189. who,

  190. beginning of last week,

  191. ran out of beer at home

  192. and decided to go to the convenience store

  193. on a lawnmower,

  194. got pulled over

  195. and got a DUI

  196. for driving a lawnmower

  197. to the convenience store

  198. to get more beer.

  199. It's a funny story.

  200. I know.

  201. It should be a country song or something.

  202. It's,

  203. I don't have a tune yet,

  204. but it's working.

  205. Four days later,

  206. he's at home

  207. and he runs out of beer

  208. and gets in his truck

  209. and goes and gets more beer

  210. at the convenience store

  211. and gets another DUI.

  212. Poor guy needs Jesus, yes.

  213. but the control of that sin

  214. in his life,

  215. he is enslaved

  216. to that desire

  217. to fulfill that need.

  218. He is controlled

  219. by that need.

  220. And that's that picture here,

  221. slave to much wine.

  222. Now,

  223. as I've said,

  224. I gave you a list,

  225. food,

  226. shopping,

  227. TV,

  228. couponing,

  229. it could be anything.

  230. But what controls you?

  231. What are you enslaved to?

  232. Later on in verse 5,

  233. here's some more traits

  234. that fall under pursuit of holiness.

  235. Self-controlled.

  236. Are you sensible?

  237. Is your mom sensible?

  238. Common sense and good judgment.

  239. Can you go to your mom

  240. or can your children come to you

  241. and you give them good judgment

  242. and sound advice?

  243. Another characteristic

  244. in verse 5

  245. is pure.

  246. Is there moral purity?

  247. Is there faithfulness

  248. within the marriage?

  249. Thoughts and actions.

  250. Ladies,

  251. is there a pursuit

  252. for holiness in your life?

  253. Do you see these traits

  254. in your mom?

  255. Celebrate that.

  256. Rejoice.

  257. Thank God for that.

  258. If you don't,

  259. pray for your mom

  260. and challenge her.

  261. Second point,

  262. not only is a godly woman

  263. pursuing holiness,

  264. but a godly woman

  265. is also building

  266. a legacy of disciples.

  267. Building a legacy

  268. of disciples

  269. and not a legacy

  270. in financial

  271. or worldly idea here,

  272. but a legacy of disciples.

  273. You want to know

  274. what a woman is all about?

  275. You want to know

  276. what she loves,

  277. what she holds close to her,

  278. what her convictions are?

  279. Look at her disciples.

  280. Look at her children.

  281. Look at who she's taught,

  282. who she's led.

  283. And my sister-in-law

  284. is a Mary Kay saleswoman,

  285. I guess.

  286. I don't know.

  287. She's a pink Cadillac lady.

  288. She's successful.

  289. Super successful.

  290. Almost freaky successful.

  291. And if you go to

  292. the most successful

  293. of her disciples,

  294. the most successful

  295. of her followers,

  296. and you talk to them,

  297. you know exactly

  298. what Meg holds important

  299. and what she holds dear to her

  300. and what she's trying to give

  301. and have the women follow.

  302. The idea here

  303. is that Meg invests

  304. in the girls

  305. so that they will succeed

  306. like she has succeeded.

  307. And here,

  308. a godly woman

  309. builds a legacy

  310. not of Mary Kay saleswomen,

  311. but of God-fearing,

  312. godly disciples.

  313. Verse 3 and 4

  314. tells them

  315. to teach what is good.

  316. Verse 3 and verse 4,

  317. so train the young women.

  318. Women.

  319. It almost gives us

  320. a picture of this

  321. classroom-like teaching.

  322. Now sit down,

  323. I have things

  324. I want to tell you,

  325. things I want to teach you.

  326. Even like a gathering

  327. like this.

  328. But that's not the case.

  329. This picture here

  330. is more of a modeling.

  331. More of a life-on-life

  332. teaching and instructing.

  333. You instruct what is good,

  334. what is noble,

  335. what is excellent

  336. by living it out

  337. in front of them

  338. and with them.

  339. Which means,

  340. women and men,

  341. husbands and wives,

  342. that you invite people

  343. into your life.

  344. That your home

  345. has an open door

  346. where people come in

  347. and see how you live.

  348. That the home

  349. isn't necessarily

  350. your fortress

  351. where you go

  352. and you hide.

  353. It's a fort

  354. where people come

  355. and find safety

  356. and find comfort.

  357. Teach what is good,

  358. so train the young women

  359. by living it out

  360. with them.

  361. So,

  362. older women,

  363. we need you.

  364. Older men,

  365. we need you as well.

  366. We need you to help us.

  367. To disciple us.

  368. A godly woman

  369. builds a legacy

  370. of disciples

  371. who love Jesus,

  372. who love His Word,

  373. who are pursuing holiness.

  374. And that's the type

  375. of legacy

  376. that's going to

  377. change the world.

  378. That's the type

  379. of legacy

  380. that's going to

  381. move mountains

  382. and see

  383. Christians

  384. created

  385. to the ends

  386. of the earth

  387. and made.

  388. Look at what

  389. they're to teach.

  390. Verse 3,

  391. it says,

  392. teach what is good,

  393. noble,

  394. excellent,

  395. what is right

  396. and true.

  397. Verse 4 and 5,

  398. it says,

  399. love their husbands

  400. and children

  401. to be self-controlled

  402. and pure.

  403. Already talked about

  404. self-controlled

  405. and pure.

  406. It says,

  407. working at home.

  408. A little lightning rod

  409. statement right there.

  410. Working at home.

  411. It does not

  412. necessarily mean

  413. that a woman

  414. cannot work

  415. outside the home,

  416. but it does

  417. mean

  418. that her home

  419. needs to be

  420. her highest

  421. priority.

  422. Women of all

  423. ages

  424. have fallen

  425. victim to the

  426. feminist agenda

  427. telling women

  428. that their worth

  429. and value

  430. is not in

  431. family,

  432. it's not in

  433. home,

  434. it's not in

  435. their husband,

  436. it's not in

  437. any of that,

  438. it's not in

  439. children,

  440. it's in the

  441. workplace

  442. and in how much

  443. money they can

  444. make and how

  445. much schooling

  446. they can have.

  447. Well,

  448. that's not the

  449. case.

  450. And I don't do

  451. this very often,

  452. but I would

  453. encourage you,

  454. if you have

  455. time to listen

  456. to a sermon,

  457. go to

  458. gracetoyou.com

  459. and listen to

  460. John MacArthur's

  461. Titus 2 sermon.

  462. He breaks down

  463. and the whole

  464. sermon is basically

  465. about the

  466. feminist movement

  467. and takes it

  468. all the way

  469. back to

  470. Gnosticism,

  471. which was in

  472. Jesus' time

  473. and before

  474. Jesus' time.

  475. it's

  476. enlightening

  477. and it will

  478. help you to

  479. see what is

  480. happening around

  481. us.

  482. Nonetheless,

  483. so when

  484. women stay

  485. at home,

  486. when they get

  487. to stay at

  488. home,

  489. they feel

  490. less valued.

  491. The world

  492. tells them

  493. they're not

  494. as valued.

  495. They feel

  496. a loss of

  497. identity because

  498. they're not

  499. at work and

  500. being successful,

  501. they're not

  502. making money,

  503. they're not

  504. doing what the

  505. world tells them

  506. to do.

  507. Now,

  508. of course,

  509. there are

  510. reasons to

  511. work.

  512. There are

  513. reasons to

  514. go to

  515. work.

  516. But women,

  517. you must be

  518. sensible,

  519. as we've

  520. already touched

  521. on,

  522. as commanded

  523. in making

  524. the decision.

  525. So questions

  526. like,

  527. are your kids

  528. old enough?

  529. Can you be

  530. home when they

  531. get home?

  532. Can you still

  533. do what you're

  534. called to do

  535. as a mother

  536. and as a wife?

  537. not only do

  538. women have

  539. an impact

  540. with people

  541. around them,

  542. making disciples,

  543. inviting people

  544. into their

  545. home,

  546. but they also

  547. have an impact

  548. at home

  549. with their

  550. children.

  551. The home is

  552. where women

  553. have a global

  554. impact.

  555. This is where

  556. they can train

  557. their children

  558. to be disciples,

  559. to invest in

  560. their kids,

  561. to nurture

  562. their kids,

  563. to teach them

  564. the treasures

  565. of Jesus

  566. and His

  567. commands,

  568. that they

  569. will go

  570. to the

  571. ends of

  572. the earth.

  573. You can

  574. shoot them

  575. out like

  576. arrows

  577. to build

  578. the kingdom

  579. of God.

  580. The home

  581. is also

  582. where a woman

  583. can find

  584. authentic

  585. and satisfying

  586. fulfillment

  587. as a Christian.

  588. A godly

  589. woman builds

  590. a legacy

  591. with younger

  592. women outside

  593. the home

  594. and from

  595. within the

  596. home with

  597. their children.

  598. Do you

  599. see that

  600. legacy from

  601. your mom

  602. or wife?

  603. Celebrate

  604. it.

  605. Celebrate

  606. her.

  607. But not

  608. only does

  609. a godly

  610. woman pursue

  611. holiness,

  612. not only

  613. is she

  614. building

  615. a legacy

  616. of disciples,

  617. she also

  618. has a

  619. selfless

  620. sacrificial

  621. love.

  622. A

  623. selfless

  624. sacrificial

  625. love.

  626. An example

  627. of that

  628. is verse

  629. five

  630. that we

  631. just touched

  632. on.

  633. Working

  634. at home.

  635. Putting

  636. the needs

  637. of the

  638. family

  639. above the

  640. wants

  641. of herself

  642. or above

  643. what the

  644. world or

  645. sinful nature

  646. or whatever

  647. is telling

  648. her to do.

  649. Putting the

  650. needs of the

  651. family above

  652. the wants

  653. of herself.

  654. But verse

  655. four says

  656. to love

  657. their husbands

  658. and children.

  659. To love

  660. their husbands.

  661. This is not

  662. a romantic

  663. love.

  664. This is not

  665. an emotionally

  666. volatile

  667. love.

  668. It's a

  669. committed

  670. love.

  671. A willing,

  672. determined

  673. love, not

  674. based on the

  675. husband's

  676. worthiness,

  677. but on

  678. God's

  679. command.

  680. So when

  681. your husband

  682. is unlovable,

  683. you love

  684. him.

  685. You sacrifice

  686. not for him

  687. necessarily, but

  688. because you are

  689. commanded to

  690. do so.

  691. It is a sin

  692. if you don't.

  693. When those

  694. moments come,

  695. you love

  696. him, you

  697. serve him

  698. sacrificially.

  699. John

  700. MacArthur

  701. says,

  702. when you

  703. sacrificially

  704. serve someone,

  705. it becomes

  706. almost impossible

  707. not to

  708. love them.

  709. Where there

  710. is genuine

  711. practical

  712. love,

  713. genuine

  714. emotional

  715. love is

  716. sure to

  717. follow.

  718. And I

  719. think he's

  720. right.

  721. If we

  722. practice

  723. love,

  724. emotional

  725. love is

  726. going to

  727. grow out

  728. of that

  729. or alongside

  730. that.

  731. A good

  732. example of

  733. sacrificial

  734. love here

  735. on earth,

  736. apart from

  737. Jesus,

  738. apart from

  739. his life,

  740. death,

  741. and resurrection,

  742. is motherhood.

  743. It says to

  744. love her

  745. husband and

  746. children.

  747. Love her

  748. children with

  749. a sacrificial

  750. love.

  751. Again, not

  752. an emotional,

  753. oh, isn't

  754. he adorable?

  755. I just love

  756. that kid.

  757. Not that

  758. kind of

  759. love.

  760. And I

  761. think that

  762. might be

  763. some of

  764. the parenting

  765. problems out

  766. there today.

  767. They love

  768. the idea of

  769. being a

  770. parent.

  771. They love

  772. the little

  773. guys dressed

  774. up really

  775. nice, but

  776. they might

  777. not necessarily

  778. love being

  779. a parent.

  780. Might not

  781. necessarily

  782. love when

  783. the little

  784. dressed up

  785. guy who

  786. looks so

  787. cute is

  788. hitting his

  789. sister and

  790. throwing stuff

  791. all over the

  792. place and

  793. making messes

  794. for you

  795. to clean

  796. up.

  797. A

  798. sacrificial

  799. love, though,

  800. grows out

  801. of what

  802. God is

  803. doing and

  804. has done.

  805. Philippians

    Philippians 2 chapter mention

  806. chapter 2.

  807. Turn to

  808. Philippians

    Philippians 2 chapter mention

  809. chapter 2.

  810. Now this,

  811. of course,

  812. is not

  813. talking about

  814. motherhood.

  815. This is not

  816. talking about

  817. being a

  818. mother or

  819. the love

  820. that a

  821. mother has,

  822. but this

  823. illustrates,

  824. in Paul's

  825. words here

  826. to the

  827. church of

  828. Philippi,

  829. I think

  830. a perfect

  831. picture of

  832. motherhood.

  833. Philippians

    Philippians 2:2

  834. chapter 2,

  835. verse 2.

  836. Complete my

  837. joy by

  838. being of

  839. the same

  840. mind,

  841. having the

  842. same love,

  843. being in

  844. full of

  845. court of

  846. one mind.

  847. Do

  848. nothing from

  849. rivalry or

  850. conceit,

  851. but in

  852. humility count

  853. others more

  854. significant than

  855. yourself.

  856. a godly

  857. woman,

  858. a godly

  859. mother counts

  860. others more

  861. important.

  862. Counts others

  863. more important.

  864. During Christmas

  865. time, during the

  866. Christmas season

  867. from Thanksgiving

  868. to Christmas,

  869. the movie A

  870. Christmas Story

  871. is on about

  872. 150 times.

  873. It's over and

  874. over and

  875. over.

  876. And if you

  877. know the

  878. movie, the

  879. little kid,

  880. I can't remember

  881. his name,

  882. he's narrating

  883. the story,

  884. kind of telling

  885. the story,

  886. and there's

  887. this scene

  888. where,

  889. where he's

  890. talking about

  891. his mom,

  892. and he

  893. says,

  894. you know,

  895. my mom,

  896. she's,

  897. paraphrase,

  898. okay,

  899. my mom hasn't

  900. had a hot

  901. meal in 15

  902. years.

  903. And the

  904. picture is

  905. her in the

  906. kitchen and

  907. the family

  908. sitting down

  909. and she

  910. tries to

  911. sit down

  912. and eat

  913. and then

  914. something else,

  915. she's got to

  916. get something

  917. else in the

  918. kitchen,

  919. or she

  920. tries to

  921. sit down

  922. again and

  923. he needs

  924. something to

  925. drink,

  926. or she

  927. tries to

  928. sit down

  929. and the

  930. husband

  931. needs a

  932. knife,

  933. and she

  934. tries to

  935. sit down

  936. over and

  937. over and

  938. over and

  939. over.

  940. That's

  941. sacrificial

  942. love.

  943. It's a

  944. movie,

  945. but that is

  946. sacrificial

  947. love,

  948. and I see

  949. that all

  950. the time

  951. in my

  952. wife.

  953. My wife

  954. will sometimes

  955. not even

  956. eat lunch

  957. because the

  958. kids have

  959. needed something

  960. over and

  961. over and

  962. over,

  963. and that's

  964. what kids

  965. do.

  966. I've seen

  967. her put her

  968. lunch in

  969. the microwave,

  970. and when a

  971. microwave beeps,

  972. I don't know if

  973. it's something in

  974. me, but I've

  975. got to go get

  976. it.

  977. It's

  978. ready to

  979. eat.

  980. It's

  981. time to

  982. eat.

  983. I've

  984. seen her

  985. have things

  986. sit in

  987. there for

  988. 30 minutes

  989. because she's

  990. helping and

  991. trying to do

  992. other things

  993. that need to

  994. get done.

  995. That's that

  996. sacrificial

  997. love, and I

  998. see it in my

  999. mother-in-law.

  1000. Julie is the

  1001. last person to

  1002. sit down at

  1003. the dinner

  1004. table.

  1005. That is a

  1006. sacrificial

  1007. love.

  1008. So when

  1009. Nathan calls

  1010. Julie a

  1011. godly

  1012. mother, he

  1013. is right.

  1014. when I

  1015. say that I

  1016. see this in

  1017. Jamie, yes,

  1018. she is

  1019. sacrificing

  1020. herself to

  1021. be a

  1022. mother to

  1023. her children

  1024. and our

  1025. children.

  1026. This

  1027. sacrificial

  1028. love is

  1029. from God.

  1030. It is a

  1031. result of

  1032. Jesus'

  1033. life, death,

  1034. and resurrection.

  1035. Because of

  1036. sin, it is

  1037. impossible to

  1038. continue this

  1039. love laid

  1040. out.

  1041. It is

  1042. impossible to

  1043. love somebody

  1044. in this way

  1045. for a long

  1046. period of

  1047. time.

  1048. Now, of

  1049. course, of

  1050. course, there's

  1051. this motherly

  1052. desire.

  1053. There are

  1054. good mothers

  1055. who don't

  1056. know Jesus

  1057. yet.

  1058. There are

  1059. good mothers

  1060. who are not

  1061. Christians, and

  1062. I understand

  1063. that.

  1064. And they

  1065. love their

  1066. kids, and

  1067. they're, but

  1068. try sacrificially

  1069. loving a

  1070. husband who

  1071. is a sinner

  1072. without the

  1073. grace of God

  1074. to do so.

  1075. Jesus'

  1076. love enables

  1077. us to

  1078. love

  1079. sacrificially.

  1080. That's

  1081. why it

  1082. saddens me

  1083. when Christians

  1084. say they

  1085. don't love

  1086. each other

  1087. anymore, and

  1088. they get a

  1089. divorce.

  1090. Of course,

  1091. question whether

  1092. they are

  1093. Christians at

  1094. all.

  1095. Do you see

  1096. this love in

  1097. your mom or

  1098. in your

  1099. wife?

  1100. Celebrate

  1101. her.

  1102. Praise Jesus

  1103. for her.

  1104. And if not,

  1105. challenge your

  1106. mom.

  1107. Pray for

  1108. your mom.

  1109. Love your

  1110. mom today.

  1111. Finally, a

  1112. godly woman,

  1113. her life draws

  1114. people to the

  1115. gospel.

  1116. Her life draws

  1117. people.

  1118. There's an

  1119. attraction to

  1120. the gospel, not

  1121. because she's

  1122. beautiful or the

  1123. way she's

  1124. dressed or how

  1125. charismatic she

  1126. is, but there's

  1127. just something

  1128. about her life

  1129. that draws

  1130. people in.

  1131. The opposite

  1132. of this is to

  1133. repel people.

  1134. And that's

  1135. what we see

  1136. in the end of

  1137. verse 5 back

  1138. in Titus

    Titus 2 chapter mention

  1139. chapter 2.

  1140. To be

  1141. self-controlled,

  1142. pure, working

  1143. at home, kind

  1144. and submissive to

  1145. their own

  1146. husbands, that

  1147. the word of

  1148. God may not

  1149. be reviled.

  1150. That the word

  1151. of God may not

  1152. be dishonored,

  1153. defamed, or

  1154. blasphemed.

  1155. The idea

  1156. here isn't

  1157. just how you

  1158. live or how

  1159. you preach or

  1160. how you

  1161. communicate to

  1162. people, but

  1163. it's also how

  1164. you don't

  1165. live, what

  1166. you don't

  1167. say.

  1168. The bad

  1169. things we do

  1170. and the good

  1171. things we fail

  1172. to do or

  1173. say are equally

  1174. important.

  1175. And people

  1176. all around are

  1177. watching to see

  1178. how you as

  1179. mothers, you

  1180. as godly

  1181. women, us

  1182. as men and

  1183. husbands, how

  1184. we live.

  1185. See, the

  1186. bottom line is

  1187. people don't

  1188. care about

  1189. your theology.

  1190. People don't

  1191. care whether

  1192. you're a

  1193. Calvinist or

  1194. a Minion or

  1195. whether you're

  1196. post-millennial or

  1197. pre-millennial,

  1198. they don't care

  1199. about that.

  1200. What they care

  1201. about is how

  1202. you live.

  1203. What communicates

  1204. to them is not

  1205. what your

  1206. feeling is on

  1207. how Paul wrote,

  1208. if Paul wrote

  1209. Hebrews or not.

  1210. that doesn't

  1211. matter.

  1212. What matters is

  1213. how you live

  1214. it out.

  1215. That's the

  1216. point that

  1217. James has with

  1218. faith without

  1219. works.

  1220. He's dead.

  1221. People care

  1222. about your

  1223. faith lived

  1224. out.

  1225. They care

  1226. about how

  1227. you mother

  1228. your child.

  1229. They care

  1230. about how

  1231. you live.

  1232. They care

  1233. about how

  1234. we men

  1235. treat our

  1236. wives,

  1237. father our

  1238. kids.

  1239. kids,

  1240. how you

  1241. treat your

  1242. moms,

  1243. not just

  1244. on Mother's

  1245. Day,

  1246. hallmark made

  1247. up day,

  1248. not just

  1249. on today,

  1250. as special

  1251. as it is.

  1252. And if

  1253. they care

  1254. about how

  1255. your faith

  1256. is lived

  1257. out,

  1258. then you're

  1259. either attracting

  1260. people to the

  1261. gospel and the

  1262. truth of God

  1263. and the power

  1264. of the gospel

  1265. or you are

  1266. repelling people

  1267. or you've

  1268. got bug spray

  1269. on and you're

  1270. repelling people

  1271. from the

  1272. truth of

  1273. God's word.

  1274. The purpose

  1275. for women to

  1276. be godly is to

  1277. proclaim the

  1278. gospel and to

  1279. bring glory to

  1280. God.

  1281. That's why God

  1282. does everything.

  1283. That's why he's

  1284. planned and ordained

  1285. everything here in

  1286. scripture is to

  1287. bring much glory

  1288. to him.

  1289. So today,

  1290. let us celebrate

  1291. our mothers.

  1292. Let us rejoice

  1293. in the gospel

  1294. and bring honor

  1295. and glory to

  1296. God.

  1297. And there's a

  1298. response for all

  1299. of us this

  1300. morning.

  1301. Moms,

  1302. are you living

  1303. out and

  1304. attracting people?

  1305. Are you pursuing

  1306. holiness?

  1307. Are you making

  1308. a legacy of

  1309. disciples?

  1310. Are you building

  1311. disciples that

  1312. will form and

  1313. shape generations

  1314. to come?

  1315. Are you

  1316. sacrificially,

  1317. selflessly loving

  1318. your children?

  1319. Ladies,

  1320. not moms yet?

  1321. Do you want

  1322. to be this?

  1323. Do you pursue

  1324. holiness in your

  1325. life now?

  1326. Are you building

  1327. a legacy of

  1328. disciples?

  1329. And are you

  1330. attracting people

  1331. to the gospel

  1332. or repelling?

  1333. And guys,

  1334. same thing.

  1335. Are you pursuing

  1336. holiness?

  1337. Are you striving

  1338. to be holy and

  1339. to love your

  1340. wife as Christ

  1341. loved the

  1342. church?

  1343. That is a

  1344. command.

  1345. It's not an

  1346. option.

  1347. It's not

  1348. multiple choice.

  1349. Guys,

  1350. are you

  1351. building a

  1352. legacy of

  1353. disciples?

  1354. Are you

  1355. training younger

  1356. guys to come

  1357. up and to be

  1358. godly husbands

  1359. and godly

  1360. fathers?

  1361. Are you

  1362. drawing people

  1363. to the gospel?

  1364. There is a

  1365. response.

  1366. Question,

  1367. examine

  1368. yourself

  1369. this morning.

  1370. not because

  1371. it's

  1372. mother's

  1373. day,

  1374. not because

  1375. it's

  1376. Sunday,

  1377. but because

  1378. of the

  1379. gospel and

  1380. the power

  1381. of Jesus

  1382. Christ that

  1383. has made

  1384. you who

  1385. are dead

  1386. alive.

  1387. And as

  1388. Nathan said

  1389. earlier this

  1390. morning,

  1391. we celebrate

  1392. moms,

  1393. but we

  1394. rejoice.

  1395. We are

  1396. excited and

  1397. we are here

  1398. to worship

  1399. not our

  1400. moms,

  1401. but Jesus

  1402. Christ,

  1403. the Savior.

  1404. let's pray.

  1405. Let's pray.
