  1. There are some words that John Newton wrote a long time ago. He was a man who wrote the hymn Amazing Grace.

  2. ! He said, I never want to cease to be amazed that a wretch such as myself was not only spared the wrath of God, but also reserved a place of honor in declaring the gospel that saved me.

  3. And I really want you to know that I treasure that. I'm really thankful to be here with you today.

  4. That God wouldn't only just save me and spare my soul, but He would give me the opportunity to declare the good news to other people.

  5. And so as Nathan stated, we've been taking a break off of Romans 10 and discussing local and global mission.

  6. And my task today is to discuss the global part.

  7. And so what I want to begin with first is, as we've discussed in previous weeks, there's a lot of definitions and misconceptions about what missions actually can be.

  8. Sometimes, usually in the church, you have images of people going overseas and going to different places in the world with people who speak different languages.

  9. And that's what tends to come to mind when you hear the word missions.

  10. And that certainly is a part of missions.

  11. But, however, like mission is not a biblical word like covenant or justification or gospel.

  12. And so we don't have necessarily like a clear definition in Scripture for what missions means.

  13. And in the church, that could be broadly interpreted.

  14. If you were to say, what is the mission of the church?

  15. You could say, to glorify God and enjoy Him forever.

  16. You could say a lot of different things about what is the mission of the church.

  17. So it depends on what we actually mean by the word mission.

  18. And it could be defined dozens of ways.

  19. But a simple, I mean, if you just want to break it down to the most simple way to define mission in the Latin, where we get the word from, it just means to, like, being sent or to send.

  20. And secondly, and they're not different definitions, being given a task, sent to do something.

  21. Sent to do something, but not everything.

  22. Going to do something specific in particular in where you go.

  23. So, but we are very, very clear that God has given a mission to the church to go and declare the gospel to all nations.

  24. So, I have three questions for us to look at today.

  25. And underneath these, there's going to be a lot of other little bullets and asides.

  26. But they're underneath these three questions.

  27. But the first one is, what is the message we bring in our mission?

  28. And what is the message we bring in our mission?

  29. So, the gospel, the word evangelion means, in Greek, it means good news, glad tithings.

  30. And it means a victory in a battle.

  31. And those of you who know, I really like ancient history a lot.

  32. And in ancient Greece, like when city-states, such as Corinth or Thebes or Sparta or Athens were at war with each other,

  33. they would then really ride horses at that point.

  34. So, they did everything by running.

  35. They had runners that took news everywhere.

  36. And the picture is like a city would be waiting to hear what happened at a battle.

  37. And it would all just be like on their, you know, just on the walls, on the towers of the city,

  38. just waiting for news to reach them as to what happened at the battle.

  39. And then they would see a guy, you know, running over the hill, you know, and he would get there.

  40. And they usually could tell by the expressions on his face, whether it was good news or bad news.

  41. But if he had a joyful look and his face was smiling and he was just beaming with joy,

  42. he would cry out, you know, evangelion, good news of victory.

  43. We all know where to get the word, you know, Nike from the shoe that was from Pheidippides.

  44. He ran, you know, from the Battle of Marathon.

  45. And he cried out, victory, and then he died when he got to Athens.

  46. And it's the same picture of what this has meant.

  47. So if that's what gospel is, good news, glad tithings of victory, what is the Christian gospel?

  48. And so throughout the ages, man has faced a greater foe than anything in the world has known.

  49. It's something much greater, and that is our own sin.

  50. And sin brings about suffering, agony of the soul, and eventually spiritual death.

  51. Internal separation from God.

  52. There's no greater enemy than our own sin.

  53. And the power of sin and death among the nations is very, very great.

  54. That only a sovereign God could conquer it.

  55. And so we ask ourselves, where is the Christian gospel?

  56. Turn through Isaiah 52.

  57. Isaiah 52, verse 7.

    Isaiah 52:7

  58. So understand, over the centuries, people have waited in darkness and waited in bondage of sin.

  59. And it's very cool that Nathan read, refer back to our text in Romans 10,

  60. because Paul actually quotes from this passage in Isaiah.

  61. Around roughly 722 or so B.C., the prophet Isaiah foretold of a greater victory that was to come.

  62. And in verse 7 of chapter 52, he says,

  63. How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of him who brings good news,

  64. who publishes peace, who brings good news of happiness,

  65. who publishes salvation, who says to Zion,

  66. Your God reigns.

  67. The voice of your watchmen, they lift up their voice.

  68. Together they sing for joy.

  69. Waste places of Jerusalem.

  70. Together they will sing for joy.

  71. For eye to eye they have seen, see the return of the Lord to Zion.

  72. Break forth into singing, you waste places of Jerusalem.

  73. For the Lord has commanded his people.

  74. He has redeemed Jerusalem.

  75. The Lord has barred his holy arm before the eyes of all the nations.

  76. And all the ends of the earth shall see the salvation of our God.

  77. And so in this, we see the good news of the gospel prophesied about 700 years or so

  78. before Christ actually came on the scene.

  79. If you see some of the languages there,

  80. the feet upon the mountains that brings the good news,

  81. and the watchmen and everybody else,

  82. they're crying out for joy because news of victory has come.

  83. And he's saying,

  84. So what would be the response of the good news that was brought to those cities?

  85. It would be singing, it would be laughter, it would be joy.

  86. And he's saying that all the ends of the earth will see the salvation of our God

  87. and that this is for the nations.

  88. And so the apostle Paul actually was allowed to see this prophecy come to pass

  89. in the person of Christ who won the victory over sin, death, and Satan.

  90. And so we look at verse 10 in Isaiah 52,

  91. and we see that this good news is not just for Americans or for the West or for the Bible Belt.

  92. It's meant for the nations, all people groups,

  93. all the people scattered throughout the ends of the earth.

  94. Every language is meant for them.

  95. And Paul has many ways of describing the gospel or the good news.

  96. In Romans, he says,

  97. It's the good news of his son.

  98. Romans 15, the good news of God.

  99. 1 Corinthians 9, the good news of Christ.

  100. 2 Corinthians 4, the glorious good news.

  101. Ephesians 6, the good news of peace.

  102. Revelation 14, the everlasting gospel,

  103. or the everlasting good news.

  104. And we all know that before Jesus actually gave the Great Commission to his disciples,

  105. it says that they worshipped him.

  106. They fell down and they worshipped him.

  107. And it's almost, I want you to keep your hand there in Isaiah,

  108. but turn to Daniel 7 really fast.

  109. We'll look at another picture of a prophecy that Christ brought to pass.

  110. Daniel chapter 7, verse 13.

    Daniel 7:13

  111. Daniel is seeing these visions,

  112. and he has a picture of Christ,

  113. the Christ who was to come.

  114. Daniel 7, verse 13.

    Daniel 7:13

  115. I saw in the night visions,

  116. and behold, with the clouds of heaven,

  117. there came one like the Son of Man.

  118. And he came to the Ancient of Days,

  119. and was presented before him.

  120. And to him was given dominion and glory and a kingdom

  121. that all peoples, nations, and languages should serve him.

  122. His dominion is an everlasting dominion,

  123. which shall not pass away.

  124. And his kingdom,

  125. one that shall not be destroyed.

  126. It's as if Jesus could actually say to his disciples,

  127. rightly do you worship me.

  128. I am the one that Daniel spoke about,

  129. that came before the Ancient of Days,

  130. and was told that the nations would worship me and serve me.

  131. Awesome picture of who Christ is.

  132. He rightly deserves the worship and praise of the nations,

  133. because he is God.

  134. And a long time ago,

  135. David Livingston,

  136. a missionary to Africa from Scotland,

  137. he told his wife,

  138. I know that you wish,

  139. as ardently as I,

  140. that the whole world will be filled with the glory of God.

  141. And that's what,

  142. exactly the heartbeat of what

  143. Daniel actually saw here,

  144. was that all the nations would give glory to this king,

  145. who would have an everlasting dominion.

  146. So this is,

  147. that's the first question.

  148. The gospel,

  149. the good news of Christ,

  150. and how God himself has sought man out to reconcile him,

  151. in a way that,

  152. if we come to Christ,

  153. we may live a life that glorifies God once again,

  154. and have relationship with God once again.

  155. And so missions is about that.

  156. It's about declaring the good news,

  157. that God has come in Christ to save sinners,

  158. and to bring them back to himself.

  159. So this is,

  160. that's the first question.

  161. The second question,

  162. we're looking at,

  163. and it may sound a little bit strange,

  164. but the second question,

  165. am I being called to global mission?

  166. Am I being called to global mission?

  167. And,

  168. with the most respect I can say,

  169. I want to say that really,

  170. this is a no brain question for any follower of Christ.

  171. when people come to me,

  172. and they say,

  173. I have a heart for missions,

  174. I want to say,

  175. I certainly hope so.

  176. That's kind of,

  177. in my mind,

  178. kind of,

  179. duh,

  180. you know.

  181. And I think,

  182. again,

  183. that question comes,

  184. because,

  185. of misconceptions,

  186. of how we've portrayed missions,

  187. and missionaries.

  188. But we just do it to everything too.

  189. We do it to pastors,

  190. we do it to,

  191. awesome authors,

  192. that we look up to,

  193. we do it to everybody.

  194. So,

  195. it's not just,

  196. that term,

  197. missionaries.

  198. But,

  199. to be a follower of Christ,

  200. is to understand,

  201. that missions,

  202. is a part of the heartbeat,

  203. of God.

  204. It's not,

  205. it's not something,

  206. just for a few people,

  207. to take on.

  208. Very,

  209. one of my favorite,

  210. and shortest quotes,

  211. by John Piper,

  212. is if John Piper,

  213. has any short quotes.

  214. He says,

  215. in terms of missions,

  216. go,

  217. send,

  218. or disobey.

  219. So,

  220. we are,

  221. to be involved in the going,

  222. the sending,

  223. or both,

  224. at times,

  225. or,

  226. we're in disobedience,

  227. we're in utter sin.

  228. So,

  229. I've done my best,

  230. to really think this through.

  231. And,

  232. this will probably be,

  233. a little bit different,

  234. of a sermon,

  235. than you've heard,

  236. on missions.

  237. I want this a lot,

  238. mostly to be practical,

  239. help,

  240. and wisdom,

  241. for those who are evaluating,

  242. in what capacity,

  243. would God have me,

  244. be a part of his global cause?

  245. So,

  246. it's not,

  247. what,

  248. but,

  249. should I be a part of God's global cause,

  250. but how should I,

  251. be a part of God's global cause?

  252. So,

  253. underneath this same question,

  254. I'm being called,

  255. to global mission,

  256. I have several things,

  257. that,

  258. that I've seen as,

  259. in my own life,

  260. in,

  261. in the lives of others,

  262. what are wrong,

  263. motivations,

  264. in seeking global missions?

  265. What are wrong motivations,

  266. in seeking global missions?

  267. And,

  268. the first one is,

  269. seeking adventure.

  270. Seeking adventure.

  271. Many people,

  272. are kind of wired this way,

  273. I kind of am,

  274. to some degree.

  275. You're always looking for thrills,

  276. you're looking to,

  277. to do the difficult,

  278. what you want to challenge,

  279. in life,

  280. and,

  281. the thrill,

  282. the unknown,

  283. just excites you,

  284. and,

  285. you're attracted by,

  286. mysterious places in the world,

  287. and,

  288. strange peoples in the world,

  289. and you kind of want to go,

  290. and,

  291. and dive into that.

  292. So,

  293. you like to go on,

  294. like an exotic,

  295. adventurous vacation,

  296. and attach,

  297. attach the name,

  298. mission trip,

  299. to it,

  300. often.

  301. And,

  302. you're there more for the place,

  303. and for the thrill,

  304. than for the broken people,

  305. that are there.

  306. And,

  307. you're the kind of person,

  308. to say,

  309. I love trying new things,

  310. dangerous things,

  311. I want to be radical,

  312. I want to be sold out,

  313. I want people to,

  314. the,

  315. the,

  316. the recognition,

  317. comes from doing something,

  318. totally different,

  319. than what most people do.

  320. And,

  321. and often,

  322. if you're not careful,

  323. those people can think,

  324. God needs me,

  325. like,

  326. I'm the person for this job,

  327. I have this,

  328. together.

  329. And,

  330. if that's,

  331. in your heart at all,

  332. I pray this,

  333. I pray that you would,

  334. you would ask God,

  335. help me realize,

  336. that you don't need me,

  337. for anything,

  338. and that carrying the cross,

  339. leaves me nothing,

  340. to both sin.

  341. Help me to fall in love with you,

  342. and break my heart,

  343. for the lost people,

  344. and direct me where I am,

  345. to minister there.

  346. So,

  347. that is,

  348. that is one,

  349. false motivation,

  350. for seeking,

  351. global mission.

  352. A second one,

  353. following a movement,

  354. following a movement.

  355. And so,

  356. there's always dangers,

  357. of following a movement,

  358. rather than,

  359. the message of that movement.

  360. In our case,

  361. we're quick to dive,

  362. into a movement,

  363. and forget the man,

  364. of that movement,

  365. which is Christ.

  366. And,

  367. we,

  368. when we go to conferences,

  369. and we hear messages,

  370. and we read books,

  371. and,

  372. we hear testimonies,

  373. and there's all this excitement,

  374. and,

  375. and clamor,

  376. and energy,

  377. that's going on.

  378. It's very easy,

  379. just to kind of go,

  380. right into it,

  381. just dive,

  382. right into that.

  383. And,

  384. everyone,

  385. wants to belong,

  386. to something.

  387. They want to say,

  388. I was a part,

  389. of this thing,

  390. that took place.

  391. When I was growing up,

  392. I always thought,

  393. it would be awesome,

  394. to say,

  395. I took,

  396. when I heard,

  397. some of the men,

  398. the older men,

  399. in my shirt say,

  400. you know,

  401. I stormed,

  402. the beaches of Normandy,

  403. or I,

  404. I landed in Market Garden,

  405. in Holland,

  406. in the second world war,

  407. I thought,

  408. man,

  409. that must have been,

  410. an awesome,

  411. thing to be a part of.

  412. You know,

  413. I would,

  414. I would think that way.

  415. Everybody wants,

  416. to belong to something.

  417. And so,

  418. we always want to be a part,

  419. of something big,

  420. and new,

  421. and,

  422. awesome,

  423. that is out there.

  424. And for example,

  425. in the church,

  426. there's a resurgence,

  427. of,

  428. of Reformation theology,

  429. the way that,

  430. the reformers,

  431. looked at the scripture,

  432. about,

  433. how scripture is our only authority,

  434. and how all things are,

  435. by grace,

  436. through faith,

  437. in Christ alone,

  438. and all to the glory,

  439. of God alone.

  440. Those are really,

  441. really good things,

  442. but I know people,

  443. that are caught,

  444. in that movement,

  445. and they forget,

  446. the heart of what,

  447. is actually going on.

  448. The heart of what,

  449. scripture is trying to tell us,

  450. and they,

  451. begin to identify themselves,

  452. as I'm a part of this camp,

  453. or that camp,

  454. rather than,

  455. I just fully want to,

  456. belong to Christ,

  457. and Christ alone.

  458. And so,

  459. it's the same thing,

  460. with,

  461. with missions,

  462. quite often.

  463. And then,

  464. in the church,

  465. particularly,

  466. among the younger generations,

  467. it's becoming,

  468. the cool,

  469. popular,

  470. trendy thing to do.

  471. It's like,

  472. let's go on missions together.

  473. And,

  474. they,

  475. there's even,

  476. kind of like,

  477. to some degree,

  478. a generational arrogance,

  479. kind of like,

  480. we're the generation.

  481. We're the generation,

  482. God's going to use,

  483. to fix the problems,

  484. of the world.

  485. And we seek,

  486. to kind of,

  487. almost separate ourselves,

  488. from,

  489. the faithful people,

  490. who have,

  491. lived,

  492. and died,

  493. and served,

  494. in God's global cause,

  495. before us.

  496. People like,

  497. my grandmother,

  498. who have taught,

  499. ESOL,

  500. for,

  501. almost 30,

  502. 40 years.

  503. And,

  504. with the Georgia Baptist,

  505. going around the world,

  506. declaring the gospel,

  507. in the form of,

  508. teaching them English.

  509. You know?

  510. And,

  511. so we spit on,

  512. that generation,

  513. and we think that,

  514. we're the awesome generation,

  515. that God's going to use,

  516. to get this done.

  517. And,

  518. I was in that camp too,

  519. I was like,

  520. sign me up,

  521. I want to be a part of this,

  522. cool generation,

  523. years ago.

  524. But,

  525. this is not,

  526. the case.

  527. A lot of times,

  528. and you're a part of a movement,

  529. or you're going to do something that way,

  530. and you go,

  531. and you actually get to,

  532. some dark place in the world,

  533. reality,

  534. will set in.

  535. And,

  536. you'll be sitting there,

  537. dealing with silence,

  538. and depression,

  539. and hardship.

  540. When all the clamor is gone,

  541. you're just sitting there,

  542. dealing with actually,

  543. what's going on.

  544. All the,

  545. romantic glamour,

  546. will kind of fall off.

  547. And,

  548. so in a movement,

  549. we can be very careful,

  550. to forget the whole purpose,

  551. behind what we're doing.

  552. And,

  553. some of you have heard of,

  554. you know,

  555. the Taj Mahal,

  556. and India,

  557. it's a,

  558. a beautiful place,

  559. but the king that built that,

  560. a long time ago,

  561. built it,

  562. to honor his third wife,

  563. which was his favorite wife,

  564. who were born,

  565. I think,

  566. 13 children.

  567. And,

  568. he built this,

  569. awesome,

  570. beautiful,

  571. place for his wife,

  572. in honor of his wife.

  573. And,

  574. it took him almost,

  575. 20 something years,

  576. to build it.

  577. But,

  578. there was multiple times,

  579. where they actually like,

  580. lost her coffin.

  581. They didn't know where,

  582. her coffin went.

  583. Like,

  584. why are we doing this?

  585. And,

  586. so,

  587. they got so caught up,

  588. in what they were doing,

  589. they lost her,

  590. the whole point,

  591. of the thing.

  592. And,

  593. I know that,

  594. we can get caught up,

  595. in movements,

  596. when we do that.

  597. We forget,

  598. this is about Christ,

  599. not about me,

  600. not about other,

  601. people necessarily.

  602. Really,

  603. this is about,

  604. Christ and his glory,

  605. and about declaring his name,

  606. among the lost.

  607. So,

  608. I say that,

  609. if you're in that camp,

  610. I want you to pray,

  611. God,

  612. help me,

  613. not to be enamored,

  614. by the coolness,

  615. and glamour,

  616. of a movement.

  617. Rather,

  618. help me to fall in love,

  619. with you,

  620. and find who I am,

  621. and you alone.

  622. That's the focus,

  623. you should have.

  624. A third reason,

  625. third wrong motivation,

  626. is a distaste,

  627. for American culture.

  628. A distaste,

  629. for American culture.

  630. Many people,

  631. seek foreign missions,

  632. because they have,

  633. developed a contempt,

  634. almost a hatred,

  635. for the people,

  636. in America.

  637. The culture,

  638. the societal norms,

  639. the prosperity,

  640. and they make,

  641. harsh generalizations,

  642. like,

  643. Americans are rich,

  644. and stuck up,

  645. as if there's not,

  646. other people,

  647. in other nations,

  648. that are,

  649. that struggle with pride.

  650. Pride is at the heart,

  651. of all sin.

  652. No matter,

  653. where you go.

  654. Americans are so lazy,

  655. as if,

  656. there's not lazy people,

  657. in the world.

  658. And they characterize,

  659. just everything American,

  660. is sinful.

  661. And,

  662. if that's how Americans think,

  663. they just must be wrong.

  664. And,

  665. they develop,

  666. some sort of bitterness,

  667. in their heart,

  668. because of that.

  669. And often,

  670. those people,

  671. are seeking to find,

  672. their identity,

  673. in some other culture,

  674. some other nation.

  675. They,

  676. they like that,

  677. and they want to go there.

  678. And,

  679. but,

  680. a huge tragedy,

  681. in this camp,

  682. is that,

  683. people who,

  684. this is the kind of people,

  685. who talk about foreign mission,

  686. all the time,

  687. but they won't,

  688. go,

  689. and share the same Christ,

  690. with the people,

  691. at their workplace,

  692. in their neighborhood,

  693. at their school,

  694. they won't do it.

  695. They have,

  696. this is such a contempt,

  697. for Americans,

  698. but they're all about,

  699. going to share the gospel,

  700. with the lost,

  701. around the world.

  702. And,

  703. I say that,

  704. that's,

  705. a twisted heart,

  706. and a divided heart.

  707. If God truly,

  708. is burning in you,

  709. a desire for the nations,

  710. he will first burn,

  711. a desire for you,

  712. for the people,

  713. that you're surrounded with,

  714. right now.

  715. And people that I see,

  716. that I know,

  717. that are genuinely,

  718. supposed to be,

  719. a part of God's global purpose,

  720. they are pouring their lives,

  721. out here,

  722. like they're meeting with people,

  723. all the time,

  724. like praying for people,

  725. sharing the gospel,

  726. with the lost,

  727. discipling.

  728. I can say with confidence,

  729. that if they say,

  730. hey I'm,

  731. I think I might be,

  732. the Lord might be leading me,

  733. to this area of the world,

  734. I'm like,

  735. man,

  736. you know,

  737. sweet.

  738. But,

  739. that's sin,

  740. and there's bitterness in the heart,

  741. if you think that way.

  742. God loves the people,

  743. the lost and dying,

  744. in this world,

  745. or in our nation,

  746. just as much as anywhere else.

  747. Don't start to rank people,

  748. because,

  749. there's fewer Christians here,

  750. that God loves them more,

  751. and not the people here.

  752. So,

  753. we can't do that.

  754. So,

  755. we need to pray,

  756. God help me to love all people,

  757. including those,

  758. who are here in America,

  759. and break my heart for them.

  760. Help me be faithful,

  761. where I am,

  762. and glorify you,

  763. where I am first.

  764. That's what the focus should be.

  765. And,

  766. fourthly,

  767. I just had two more,

  768. fourth reason,

  769. fourth wrong motivation,

  770. for a global mission,

  771. running from sin.

  772. Running from sin,

  773. and I've done this myself.

  774. So,

  775. many people,

  776. who run to the nations,

  777. they're seeking escape,

  778. from some,

  779. sinful habit,

  780. that they struggle with.

  781. Or,

  782. some pain,

  783. or some fear they have,

  784. or some insecurity they have,

  785. here in America.

  786. I know,

  787. guys that have gone,

  788. and done,

  789. global mission,

  790. because they were struggling,

  791. with,

  792. with greed,

  793. or,

  794. materialism,

  795. or,

  796. sexual sin.

  797. And they think that,

  798. if they just go here,

  799. it won't follow them.

  800. And,

  801. they fail to recognize,

  802. that their enemy is within.

  803. It's not,

  804. something without,

  805. it's something that will follow them,

  806. no matter where they go.

  807. And,

  808. are the people,

  809. who are running from,

  810. from fear,

  811. or insecurity,

  812. or pain,

  813. that they've experienced,

  814. they've experienced,

  815. a broken heart,

  816. through,

  817. a broken relationship,

  818. with,

  819. family,

  820. or,

  821. the opposite sex.

  822. Are they seeking approval,

  823. at work,

  824. or a certain group of people,

  825. they want to be,

  826. accepted by.

  827. And they find themselves,

  828. going overseas,

  829. hoping that that's not going,

  830. to follow them,

  831. and they can find,

  832. somewhere else.

  833. But,

  834. all the time,

  835. usually,

  836. the vast majority,

  837. of people who do this,

  838. their sin,

  839. or their fears,

  840. their insecurities,

  841. only escalate,

  842. when they go,

  843. to places.

  844. It doesn't help.

  845. It usually makes things worse.

  846. Because they're not dealing,

  847. with the problem,

  848. first.

  849. And their,

  850. their enemy is within.

  851. It's a sinful,

  852. broken heart,

  853. not the environment,

  854. that they're in.

  855. So,

  856. I pray that you would see,

  857. that there's no physical,

  858. sanctuary,

  859. away from your sin,

  860. and your fear.

  861. Only in God's presence,

  862. alone is that found.

  863. And so,

  864. pray that,

  865. God help me,

  866. to see there's no,

  867. sanctuary for my sin,

  868. in place of healing,

  869. for my broken heart,

  870. other than in you.

  871. Your presence,

  872. alone,

  873. in your presence,

  874. alone,

  875. there's fullness,

  876. of joy,

  877. and peace.

  878. Steve,

  879. Colbert,

  880. who wrote the book,

  881. you know,

  882. When Helping Hurts,

  883. the book that I've,

  884. I borrowed,

  885. and read a lot,

  886. but I had to give back.

  887. He said,

  888. until we recognize,

  889. our mutual brokenness,

  890. our work with others,

  891. especially with those,

  892. who are materially poor,

  893. will do more harm,

  894. than good.

  895. We have to realize,

  896. how broken we are,

  897. first,

  898. and,

  899. and how much we need to save,

  900. before we go,

  901. and help others.

  902. So,

  903. so that's running from sin,

  904. or fear,

  905. wrong motivation.

  906. Fifth,

  907. this was,

  908. again,

  909. I've lived in this camp,

  910. and this is the last one,

  911. wrong motivation,

  912. guilt,

  913. and penitence.

  914. Guilt,

  915. and penitence.

  916. Those who feel,

  917. the weight of their sin,

  918. and their guilt,

  919. often can seek,

  920. to repay God,

  921. for his kindness to them.

  922. And I've done this,

  923. it's often called,

  924. the debtor's ethic.

  925. God did this for me,

  926. so I have to do this for him.

  927. I have to pay him back somehow.

  928. And I need to sell,

  929. everything I have,

  930. and I need to go to the hardest place,

  931. to live on the earth,

  932. and just give my life,

  933. just doing,

  934. missions,

  935. so he'll see how serious I am,

  936. and that he,

  937. made a good investment,

  938. when he saved me.

  939. You feel like,

  940. so unworthy,

  941. so broken,

  942. and you're motivated by guilt,

  943. and unworthiness,

  944. and not the love,

  945. and gratitude,

  946. that should come,

  947. from knowing Christ.

  948. So we seek to repay God,

  949. and all that he's done,

  950. in us.

  951. And I've lived in that camp,

  952. and so I pray that,

  953. if that's where you are,

  954. you pray God,

  955. help me to see,

  956. that you love me,

  957. and save me,

  958. not because,

  959. of what I could do for you,

  960. but simply because,

  961. you chose to.

  962. Help me to see,

  963. that I'm completely loved,

  964. and accepted by you,

  965. and help me to do all,

  966. out of love,

  967. thankfulness,

  968. and gratitude,

  969. and for all you've done for me.

  970. That's,

  971. that should be our focus.

  972. And so,

  973. those are some wrong motivations,

  974. that I've seen in myself,

  975. and the lives of others,

  976. for why they seek,

  977. to go and do global mission.

  978. So,

  979. moving on,

  980. I have a few reasons,

  981. for what are pure,

  982. and right motives,

  983. behind global mission.

  984. And,

  985. kind of starting here,

  986. like I said a second ago,

  987. the first one,

  988. is a deep love,

  989. and gratitude for God.

  990. You're aware,

  991. of your own sin,

  992. and you're aware,

  993. of the depths,

  994. that God has picked you out of,

  995. and that,

  996. it makes your heart joyful,

  997. and so,

  998. thankful,

  999. for what he's done,

1000. that you just want to know him,

  1001. walk with him,

  1002. live for him,

  1003. and die for him.

1004. And you don't care how.

  1005. You don't care,

  1006. what he does.

  1007. If he says,

  1008. stay here,

  1009. and do the most,

1010. back behind the scene task,

  1011. or if he's like,

  1012. go,

  1013. and stand,

  1014. and preach before,

  1015. thousands of people,

  1016. or he's like,

  1017. go to this nation,

  1018. and preach the gospel,

  1019. you really don't care.

1020. You just want to know Christ,

  1021. to walk with him,

1022. and to make him known.

  1023. That's,

1024. kind of where you are.

  1025. So,

  1026. all that you've,

  1027. are doing,

  1028. is motivated,

  1029. by the love,

  1030. and gratitude,

  1031. you have for God.

  1032. You were,

  1033. you recognize,

1034. that you were not with him,

  1035. at one point,

  1036. and he sought you,

  1037. and he wrapped you,

  1038. in his splendor,

  1039. and he called you,

  1040. his own.

  1041. And,

  1042. the result is,

  1043. you just hunger,

  1044. and thirst for God.

  1045. Turn to Jeremiah 20,

  1046. really fast.

  1047. Jeremiah 20,

    Jeremiah 20:9

  1048. verse 9.

  1049. So,

  1050. our hearts,

  1051. should be so filled,

  1052. with love,

  1053. and gratitude,

  1054. that,

  1055. we naturally,

  1056. talk about,

1057. what we love the most.

1058. It comes out of us.

  1059. And,

  1060. I want to declare,

  1061. declare Christ.

  1062. And so,

  1063. our affections,

  1064. compel us,

  1065. to preach the gospel.

  1066. Jeremiah 20,

    Jeremiah 20:9

  1067. verse 9.

  1068. If I say,

1069. I will not mention him,

  1070. or speak any more,

  1071. in his name,

1072. there is in my heart,

  1073. as it were,

  1074. a burning fire,

1075. shut up in my bones,

  1076. and I am weary,

  1077. with holding it in,

  1078. and I cannot.

  1079. That is like,

  1080. how you feel,

  1081. if you truly,

  1082. have encountered Christ.

  1083. You must,

  1084. talk about him.

  1085. You must,

  1086. declare him.

1087. It must come out of you.

  1088. Like Peter and John,

  1089. who stood before,

  1090. the religious leaders,

  1091. and they say,

  1092. we cannot help,

1093. but speak of what we have seen,

  1094. and heard.

  1095. Or like,

  1096. the demon possessed man,

  1097. who was healed,

  1098. and he told Jesus,

  1099. I will follow you,

1100. and do whatever you want me to do.

  1101. And he said,

  1102. go,

1103. and declare what God has done for you.

  1104. He joyfully went,

  1105. and declared like,

1106. what God had done for him.

  1107. And,

  1108. and deep down,

  1109. we say,

1110. as Paul did in 1 Corinthians,

  1111. woe to me,

  1112. if I do not,

  1113. preach the gospel.

  1114. It has to,

1115. it has to come out of us.

  1116. So first of all,

  1117. get to start there.

1118. If you have just such a,

  1119. a love and gratitude,

1120. for what God has done in your own life.

  1121. Secondly,

1122. a love for the lost world.

  1123. And again,

1124. I've already kind of touched on this.

1125. Our hearts should break for the lost,

  1126. all over the world,

  1127. not just,

  1128. a particular,

  1129. certain people.

  1130. Not just lost people.

  1131. Not just in Asia,

  1132. Africa,

  1133. or Europe,

  1134. but our neighborhoods,

  1135. your schools,

  1136. the people you encounter,

  1137. your family,

  1138. places of work,

  1139. here in America.

  1140. America.

1141. This is a very healthy indication

  1142. that God could be

  1143. expanding your vision

1144. to go and do something globally.

1145. You have to be faithful

  1146. where you are first.

  1147. That's a biblical principle.

  1148. It's just,

  1149. it's just there.

  1150. You can't escape it.

1151. God wants to be faithful

  1152. where you are.

1153. Then he will lead you

  1154. further

1155. to where you are to go.

  1156. And,

  1157. we should go

  1158. to whatever extreme necessary

  1159. to reach the lost.

1160. And God has given us

  1161. the privilege

  1162. of being his messengers

  1163. to rescue those

1164. who are being taken away

  1165. to death

  1166. and hold back

  1167. those who are stumbling

  1168. to slaughter.

  1169. And then,

  1170. thirdly,

  1171. a holy desire

1172. for going to the nations.

1173. Many of you will find God

  1174. as you're being faithful

  1175. where you are,

  1176. pulling you

  1177. and directing

  1178. your heart

  1179. to a specific nation,

  1180. people group,

  1181. or region

  1182. of the world.

  1183. and you'll have

  1184. no romantic ideas

  1185. about it.

  1186. You'll be like,

  1187. I could go.

  1188. I could suffer a lot

  1189. while I'm there.

  1190. I could experience loneliness.

  1191. I could be persecuted.

1192. Not a lot could happen

  1193. even if I go.

1194. Even if I go and live there,

1195. I might not even see

  1196. anyone converted.

  1197. You understand

  1198. the realities

  1199. of what's there.

1200. You have no romantic ideas

  1201. about it.

  1202. But God is nonetheless

  1203. pulling you

  1204. and developing

  1205. a broken heart

  1206. for a particular group.

  1207. people in darkness,

  1208. a dark spiritual condition.

  1209. And you see God

  1210. opening and closing doors

1211. as you begin to pray about

  1212. and seek this out

1213. to see if this is

1214. something He would have you

  1215. actually go and do.

  1216. So,

  1217. all this,

  1218. I've just said,

  1219. are wrong motivations

  1220. and right motivations

  1221. for global mission.

  1222. And you might have

  1223. just a mixture

1224. of a lot of those.

  1225. I don't want you

1226. to section them all off.

  1227. I've experienced

  1228. most of those.

  1229. And this is

  1230. the third part

  1231. and probably

1232. one of the largest parts.

  1233. How can we

  1234. as a church

  1235. be active

  1236. in God's global purpose?

  1237. How can we

  1238. as a body here

  1239. be active

  1240. in God's global purpose?

  1241. And the first one

  1242. is

  1243. praying and counseling.

  1244. Okay?

  1245. We desire to help

  1246. direct people

  1247. to where God

  1248. is leading them

  1249. regardless of

  1250. wherever

  1251. that may be.

  1252. And we understand

  1253. that God

  1254. has uniquely

  1255. crafted you

  1256. and gifted you

  1257. for different things.

  1258. Those of you

  1259. who have children

  1260. know that your goal

  1261. is not to

  1262. force your child

  1263. into a mold

  1264. that you want

  1265. or just like yours,

  1266. but recognize

  1267. that God's going

  1268. to have them

  1269. as individuals.

1270. He's going to have them

1271. grow up to be unique

1272. in a lot of ways

  1273. and that that's

  1274. going to play

  1275. into who they're

  1276. going to be

  1277. and what they'll

  1278. be doing one day.

1279. And so we do the same.

  1280. So our goal,

  1281. most radicals

  1282. in the church,

  1283. they will make you

  1284. feel weight

  1285. and guiltiness

  1286. that you need

  1287. to do exactly

  1288. what they're doing.

  1289. I've seen

  1290. pastors

  1291. and missionaries

  1292. over,

  1293. foreign missionaries

  1294. alike do this.

  1295. They will come

  1296. and they'll preach

  1297. a message on

  1298. local mission.

  1299. They'll be like,

  1300. don't you dare

  1301. go anywhere else.

1302. You need to stay here

  1303. and you need to

  1304. do local mission.

  1305. And then I've heard

  1306. the opposite of guys

  1307. say,

  1308. you know,

  1309. like,

  1310. how dare you not

  1311. go to the nations?

  1312. And there's a sign-up

  1313. sheet and everybody's

  1314. name's on the sign-up

  1315. sheet at the end,

  1316. like sign me up,

  1317. I'm going.

  1318. And it's almost

  1319. like they've been

  1320. burdened or guilted

  1321. into a certain

  1322. direction.

  1323. But we want to

  1324. sit down with you

  1325. and we want to

  1326. listen,

  1327. to pray,

  1328. to discuss,

  1329. to look at scripture

  1330. and help draw out

  1331. of you what God

1332. is doing inside of you

  1333. and then direct you

  1334. where we think

  1335. that would be

  1336. or where you think

  1337. that would be.

  1338. We recognize that

  1339. about you.

1340. We want to aid you

  1341. in encouraging you

  1342. in seeking that out,

  1343. whatever it is,

  1344. whatever it is.

  1345. And that includes

  1346. going to the nations

  1347. and that's awesome.

  1348. We want to encourage

  1349. that,

  1350. not to convince you

1351. to be a goer or a sender,

  1352. but to figure out

  1353. where you should be

  1354. and to walk through

  1355. that journey with you.

  1356. It's our privilege

  1357. to do that.

  1358. I'm so thankful

  1359. for men and women

1360. who are in the nations

  1361. now that I've had

  1362. a chance to be

  1363. friends with

  1364. and to encourage

  1365. and train

  1366. and send out

  1367. and that leads us

  1368. to the next thing.

  1369. Our church can be

  1370. involved in training

  1371. and discipleship.

  1372. We desire,

  1373. in general,

  1374. to help people

  1375. grow in their walks

  1376. with Christ,

  1377. to teach them

  1378. to know God

  1379. and to love God,

  1380. to follow Him

  1381. and obey Him.

1382. We want to give them

  1383. a firm biblical,

  1384. theological foundation

  1385. for their life

  1386. and what they do.

  1387. Things that every believer

  1388. should know.

  1389. So you may think

  1390. theology,

  1391. scholarship,

  1392. intellectualism,

  1393. what does that have

  1394. to do with mission?

  1395. It has a lot

  1396. to do with mission.

  1397. Did you know that

  1398. John Calvin's

  1399. seminary in Geneva

  1400. was called

  1401. the School of Death?

  1402. And you no doubt,

1403. I bet if you went there,

  1404. you would get some

  1405. hardcore theology

  1406. while you were there,

  1407. you would be learning

  1408. out the wazoo,

  1409. like information

1410. about what the Scripture says.

  1411. But do you know

  1412. that a huge majority

1413. of men that came there

  1414. from all over Europe,

  1415. they were so burdened

  1416. by what they heard,

  1417. they're like,

  1418. we can't stay here.

1419. We have to go back

  1420. to our people

  1421. and teach them

  1422. these things.

  1423. And like,

  1424. huge numbers of them

  1425. were martyred

  1426. as they went back

  1427. to their home countries

  1428. from this seminary

  1429. to declare

1430. the truth of the Gospel

  1431. to the people

  1432. they heard

  1433. and to translate

  1434. the Scripture

  1435. into their own languages.

  1436. So we want that

  1437. to be that.

1438. We want to be that.

1439. We want to train you

  1440. in our knowledge

  1441. of the truth

1442. so that you will go out

1443. and have a firm foundation.

  1444. There was a girl

  1445. who was a part

  1446. of our congregation

  1447. several years ago

  1448. who's graduated

  1449. and moved on.

1450. But while she was here,

  1451. she took place

  1452. in a short-term

  1453. mission trip

  1454. to Moldova.

  1455. And there,

  1456. she was actually

  1457. attacked by

  1458. some of the,

1459. kind of like the mob

  1460. that's there

  1461. in Moldova.

  1462. Actually,

  1463. and she came back

  1464. and told us,

  1465. you know,

  1466. when she returned,

  1467. your teachings

  1468. that I've learned

  1469. from you guys

  1470. about how God

  1471. is in control

  1472. of all things

  1473. that He is sovereign

  1474. gave me such peace

  1475. and joy

  1476. while I was

  1477. being threatened

  1478. with death there.

  1479. And like,

  1480. that's what we want

  1481. to have.

1482. We want to give you

  1483. a firm biblical training

  1484. and discipleship

  1485. before you go anywhere.

  1486. We want you

  1487. to feel this burden

  1488. and go.

  1489. So,

  1490. also,

1491. we want to be able

  1492. to serve

  1493. long-term goers,

  1494. long-term people

  1495. who are being called

  1496. to foreign mission.

1497. We want to aid them

1498. in any way we can.

  1499. and we want

  1500. to have,

  1501. like even groups

  1502. of people

  1503. in our congregation

  1504. adopt certain people

  1505. that are out there

  1506. to pray for them

  1507. constantly,

  1508. to fund them

  1509. financially,

  1510. to stay in touch

  1511. with them

  1512. and to encourage them

  1513. and to report

  1514. on what they're doing

  1515. here.

  1516. We want to see

  1517. that happen.

  1518. And

  1519. we're in the works

  1520. of trying to do

  1521. a lot of stuff

  1522. like that now.

  1523. and we want

  1524. to be connected

  1525. to these long-term

  1526. people who are there

  1527. and to inform you

  1528. here what's going on

  1529. in their areas

  1530. of the world.

  1531. That's important.

1532. We need to be doing that.

  1533. And then,

  1534. also,

1535. I try to be very careful

  1536. when I'm thinking

  1537. through this.

  1538. Also,

  1539. be involved

  1540. as a church

  1541. in wise,

  1542. short-term

  1543. missions.

  1544. missions.

  1545. And

  1546. we do desire

  1547. to engage

  1548. in some

  1549. short-term missions

  1550. as a congregation,

  1551. but we don't want

  1552. to betray

  1553. a short,

  1554. exciting,

  1555. exotic vacation

  1556. that you can attach

  1557. mission trip onto.

  1558. We never want that

  1559. to be the focus.

1560. Not so you can just go

  1561. and experience

  1562. different peoples

  1563. and cultures,

  1564. and we want

  1565. to carefully examine

  1566. like cultural values,

  1567. economic situations,

  1568. and the broken

  1569. relationships of people

  1570. in those places

  1571. that we're actually

  1572. thinking about.

1573. And I want to be wise

  1574. in the planning,

  1575. the implementing,

  1576. and the evaluation

  1577. of what we do.

  1578. Scripture is very clear

  1579. that the only way

  1580. to wage war

1581. is to do it wisely.

1582. It says in Proverbs 15,

  1583. without counsel,

  1584. plans fail.

  1585. But with many advisors,

  1586. they succeed.

  1587. In Proverbs 20,

  1588. plans are established

  1589. by counsel.

  1590. By wise guidance,

  1591. wage war.

1592. So we want to be

  1593. careful about

  1594. where we send money

  1595. and who we send

  1596. to go and do

  1597. specific things

  1598. in different places

  1599. of the world.

  1600. In the book,

  1601. Helping Hurts,

  1602. Steve Carbert said,

  1603. by definition,

  1604. short-term missions

1605. have only a short time

  1606. in which to show

  1607. a profit,

  1608. to achieve,

  1609. predefined goals.

  1610. And this can

  1611. attack our American

  1612. idols of speed,

  1613. of

  1614. comparatualization,

  1615. that's a big word,

  1616. money,

  1617. achievement,

  1618. and success.

  1619. Projects become

  1620. more important

  1621. than people.

  1622. That's often how

1623. we can be in America.

  1624. We don't want to

  1625. put in something

  1626. so we can get

  1627. a quick response

1628. or a quick profit back.

  1629. We've got to be

  1630. prepared to deal

  1631. with the long

  1632. haul in certain

  1633. things.

  1634. So there's a few

  1635. principles here

1636. as to how we can

  1637. help make the most

  1638. out of short-term

  1639. missions.

  1640. And one is

  1641. engage with

  1642. the locals

  1643. and long-term

  1644. people that are

  1645. in certain countries

  1646. and ask them

  1647. to be a part

  1648. of the planning

  1649. and the implementing

  1650. and the evaluation

  1651. of what's going on.

1652. And we want to do

  1653. what they think

  1654. is best for

  1655. the communities

  1656. that they're ministering

  1657. in and not what

  1658. we want to do

  1659. or what we think

  1660. is best.

  1661. Because

1662. at the end of the day

  1663. it's not about us,

  1664. it's about

  1665. the loss

  1666. and reaching the loss.

  1667. So if that means

  1668. like

  1669. the money

  1670. that we would use

  1671. to actually spend

1672. to get to the location

  1673. would be more

  1674. beneficial

  1675. just to give

  1676. to the people

  1677. that are there

  1678. long-term

1679. so they can use it

  1680. and spend it

  1681. which way they think

  1682. best,

  1683. we'll do that.

  1684. But if they say

  1685. hey we really

  1686. could use some help,

  1687. we could use

  1688. some faithful people

1689. to come and help us

1690. for this period of time

  1691. and doing this

  1692. and teaching English

  1693. or training

  1694. or there's multiple things,

  1695. serving,

  1696. building,

1697. we want to be able

1698. to be a part of that.

1699. And we want to even

  1700. help train

  1701. and prepare people

  1702. before they go

  1703. on these trips.

  1704. And so

  1705. also

  1706. in this book

  1707. I recommend

  1708. this book

  1709. by the way

  1710. when helping hurts.

  1711. I haven't read

  1712. the whole thing

  1713. but it's been

  1714. very good

  1715. practically

  1716. in learning

  1717. how to apply

  1718. missions

  1719. but

  1720. he has

  1721. three things

  1722. I think

  1723. would be helpful

1724. for you to write down.

  1725. General principles

  1726. for helping

  1727. without hurting

  1728. and

  1729. there's three kinds

  1730. of things out there.

  1731. One is relief.

  1732. Okay,

  1733. we want

  1734. there's

  1735. a crisis

  1736. in the world

  1737. and we go

  1738. and we provide

  1739. relief.

  1740. And that means

  1741. there's an urgent need

1742. and we need to go

  1743. now

  1744. and stop

  1745. the bleeding

  1746. of whatever

  1747. is going on.

  1748. That's relief.

  1749. The second one

  1750. rehabilitation

  1751. and that starts

  1752. when the bleeding

  1753. stops

  1754. and you help

  1755. people get back

  1756. to a pre-crisis

  1757. condition.

  1758. And then

  1759. thirdly

  1760. development

  1761. which is

  1762. an ongoing

  1763. effort

  1764. to help

  1765. people

  1766. and come

  1767. into a right

  1768. relationship

  1769. with God

  1770. and help

  1771. establish them

  1772. where they are.

  1773. So that's the things

  1774. we wanted to see

  1775. but

  1776. in the book

  1777. he says

  1778. one of the biggest

  1779. mistakes

  1780. is that

  1781. North American

  1782. churches make

  1783. by far

  1784. is in applying

  1785. relief

  1786. in situations

  1787. in which

  1788. rehabilitation

  1789. or development

  1790. is appropriate.

  1791. So

  1792. we're quick

  1793. to kind of

  1794. go and

  1795. provide the

  1796. wrong kind

  1797. of help

  1798. when this

  1799. is more

  1800. needed

  1801. than

  1802. what we're

  1803. trying to

  1804. give them.

  1805. So we want

  1806. to be very

  1807. careful

  1808. thought out

  1809. prayerful

  1810. seek out

  1811. wisdom

  1812. from those

  1813. who are

  1814. in those

  1815. countries

  1816. and the

  1817. long term

  1818. missionaries

  1819. that are there

  1820. and ask

  1821. them how

  1822. best can

  1823. we help

  1824. and Nathan

  1825. and I

  1826. or Wes

  1827. and Chris

  1828. run the

  1829. process of

  1830. putting together

  1831. you know

  1832. people that are

  1833. in different

  1834. continents

  1835. different nations

  1836. that we know

  1837. and we have

  1838. connections with

  1839. we want to

  1840. be able to

  1841. love and support

  1842. them in any

  1843. way that we

  1844. can.

  1845. But at the

  1846. end of the

  1847. day this

  1848. is all

  1849. about

  1850. declaring

  1851. the gospel

  1852. and the

  1853. glory of

  1854. God to

  1855. the ends

  1856. of the

  1857. earth.

  1858. So in

  1859. closing turn

  1860. to Acts

    Acts 26 chapter mention

  1861. chapter 26.

  1862. Acts 26

  1863. and go down

  1864. to verse

  1865. 17.

  1866. Paul

  1867. he declares

  1868. that this

  1869. was the

  1870. mission that

  1871. God sent

  1872. him to

  1873. do

  1874. and

  1875. he says

  1876. go to

  1877. the

  1878. Gentiles

  1879. to who

  1880. I'm sending

  1881. you

  1882. verse 18

  1883. to open

  1884. their eyes

  1885. so that they

  1886. may turn

  1887. from darkness

  1888. to light

  1889. and from the

  1890. power of

  1891. Satan

  1892. to God

  1893. that they

  1894. may receive

  1895. forgiveness

  1896. of sins

  1897. and a

  1898. place

  1899. among those

  1900. who are being

  1901. sanctified by

  1902. faith in

  1903. me.

  1904. This is

  1905. our aim.

  1906. This is our

  1907. mission,

  1908. our goal.

  1909. We want

  1910. people to be

  1911. set free from

  1912. sin so they

  1913. can know the

  1914. God that

  1915. created them

  1916. and walk with

  1917. them in a way

  1918. that will honor

  1919. him and glorify

  1920. him.

  1921. And at the

  1922. end of all

  1923. things,

  1924. one day a lot

  1925. of us in here

  1926. who know Christ

  1927. and have him

  1928. in our lives

  1929. will be

  1930. standing before

  1931. the throne of

  1932. God in

  1933. eternity,

  1934. praising him,

  1935. giving him

  1936. glory,

  1937. worshiping the

  1938. lamb who

  1939. was slain.

  1940. I watched

  1941. the opening

  1942. ceremonies in

  1943. the Olympics,

  1944. like probably a

  1945. lot of us

  1946. did,

  1947. and such a

  1948. beautiful,

  1949. cool picture

  1950. of what

  1951. eternity

  1952. could be.

  1953. All the

  1954. nations coming

  1955. together for

  1956. a particular

  1957. purpose and

  1958. coming in

  1959. with their

  1960. flags and

  1961. their languages

  1962. and all of

  1963. that,

  1964. as beautiful

  1965. as that is,

  1966. you know,

  1967. there's one day

  1968. we're all going

  1969. to come together

  1970. and we're going

  1971. to lay down

  1972. those flags

  1973. and we're all

  1974. going to take

  1975. on a new

  1976. identity,

  1977. have a new

  1978. name.

  1979. There won't

  1980. be any

  1981. barrier of

  1982. race or

  1983. culture or

  1984. any kind of

  1985. hatred between

  1986. us at all.

  1987. Christ will be

  1988. our all in

  1989. all and we'll

  1990. worship him for

  1991. all eternity.

  1992. This is the

  1993. goal, this is

  1994. what we focus

  1995. on, this is

  1996. global mission

  1997. and I hope

  1998. that some of

  1999. this has been

  2000. helpful,

  2001. challenging,

  2002. convicting,

  2003. encouraging.

  2004. If you agree,

  2005. disagree, it's

  2006. alright, you

  2007. can come and

  2008. talk to me

  2009. about it.

  2010. We just want

  2011. to glorify

  2012. Christ and

  2013. that includes

  2014. local and

  2015. global mission.

  2016. So let's

  2017. just turn to

  2018. the Lord in

  2019. prayer and

  2020. ask him to

  2021. help us.
