  1. Let me begin this morning by just pointing out the fact and giving you some explanation as to why it is we're taking a break from the book of Mark.

  2. As we have been verse by verse preaching through Mark and we are in chapter 4 right now.

  3. The parable of the sower and the soils which I am incredibly excited about.

  4. It's one of my favorite parables and really looking forward to preaching on it.

  5. Last week Clay very graciously gave me a little break as I had so much going on last week and so we didn't talk about it then.

  6. And this week as I continued to prepare for it and as I try to be sensitive every week to what God would have me preach on, I was led elsewhere.

  7. In great part because some of you may not know but January is National Right to Life Month here in the United States.

  8. And today is actually this Sunday is Sanctity of Human Life Sunday.

  9. So as some of these things were working in me this week, that was brought to mind.

  10. And I said, well maybe there is where we need to head today.

  11. And so I would just ask that you join me in a word of prayer and then I'll show you where we're headed this morning.

  12. Father God, we do thank you for the blessing of your church that we might come together, sing praise to your name, hear preaching from your scriptures,

  13. and glorify you as we go out into this world.

  14. And I just pray, Father, that this day as we come together amidst the distractions of the morning,

  15. as many of us are tired as it's starting to feel a bit warm in here,

  16. I just pray, Lord, that you will give us keen ears to hear by your spirit and apply the truth from your scripture to our living every day.

  17. We desire to see this happen because we want to see your praises sung amongst the nations.

  18. And so we pray this in Christ's name. Amen.

  19. So we're going to look a bit today in John chapter 17 and we're going to go some other texts as well,

    John 17 chapter mention

  20. primarily be in John chapter 17 today.

    John 17 chapter mention

  21. And you really are asleep if you haven't noticed that I carried a garbage can up onto the stage

  22. and that I also have a cardboard box sitting on the lectern below me where my water would normally be.

  23. So I may get a little bit parched this morning.

  24. In this cardboard box are 80 plus little figurines that are 12 week old baby-ish, I will say.

  25. Kind of a cheap recreation of one, so it's not terribly accurate.

  26. But this is about the size of a 12 week old infant that would be in its mother's belly.

  27. It has arms and legs, toes, fingers.

  28. It has all of its organs.

  29. The kidneys have actually begun to purify the system and excrete urine.

  30. This little one pees in its mother's womb.

  31. Eyes and nose, they begin to play with their umbilical cord.

  32. They do acrobatic tricks inside the womb already at this age.

  33. Often around this time, moms are starting to get really sick because of all this motion going on inside their tummies.

  34. The sad thing is that here in the United States, 1.2 million unborn children are aborted each year.

  35. Since Roe v. Wade was passed 40 years ago, that means that there have been over 50 million children aborted in this country since 1973.

  36. And if we take that number, which was last year's number, 1.2 million children aborted,

  37. and we start to apply a little bit of math to that to get some picture of the scope of what that would look like,

  38. it breaks down to 3,288 children a day,

  39. 137 per hour,

  40. 2.3 per minute,

  41. and to keep our math simple,

  42. that's one every 30 seconds.

  43. Now, I would assume that this morning there aren't many or any abortion clinics open,

  44. so we may not actually be experiencing abortion at this rate right now.

  45. I'm very aware of that,

  46. but it's difficult for us to wrap our minds around what 1.2 million looks like.

  47. And I've endeavored over this past year to find something that I could afford to purchase 1.2 million of.

  48. It's a challenge.

  49. The best thing I've come up with so far was BBs,

  50. little metal BBs like you'd shoot from a BB gun,

  51. but I don't have five grand to buy that many BBs.

  52. 1.2 million is a staggeringly high number,

  53. and it's so difficult for us to understand.

  54. And I think as a result,

  55. both with this social issue and with many others,

  56. we tend to kind of push it off.

  57. We kind of out of sight, out of mind.

  58. We think about it.

  59. It may have some effect on us.

  60. We say, well, 1.2 million, that's a staggering number.

  61. And then we lay it to the side,

  62. and we go about the everyday troubles.

  63. We deal with the things that are in our little sphere,

  64. and we don't really think beyond to the world around us.

  65. Now, there are two types of sin.

  66. There are sins of commission,

  67. and those are those things that we've been commanded not to do,

  68. and yet we do them anyway.

  69. Most of you work very hard at not participating in sins of commission,

  70. but there's also another type of sin,

  71. and that's the sin of omission.

  72. There are things that we are commanded to do,

  73. and we just don't do them.

  74. And many of us neglect these things altogether.

  75. And I think that most American Christians,

  76. and I can't point a finger at any individual person in this room,

  77. but I certainly can point a finger at myself

  78. and say that most of us are guilty of sins of omission

  79. by not being more active in seeking justice in our world.

  80. I would sum that up for myself with the simple term apathy.

  81. I just get lazy about the problems of this world.

  82. I just get comfortable with the day-to-day,

  83. and I don't break for the things that are happening in each day in this world.

  84. One child every 30 seconds.

  85. I tend to preach for about 45 minutes.

  86. Hope that doesn't turn any of you off right now.

  87. And so here's what I'm going to try to do.

  88. I don't know if I can do it,

  89. so we're going to make it a grand experiment this morning.

  90. Every 30 seconds,

  91. Reese, who's sitting where?

  92. There he is, in the back corner,

  93. is going to put his hand in the air.

  94. I gave him a timer this morning,

  95. and he's going to put his hand in the air,

  96. and I'm going to drop one of these figures into this trash can.

  97. And here's the reason I'm trying to do that.

  98. I have no clue what it'll accomplish,

  99. but here's what I'm hoping it will accomplish.

  100. Is that as we sit here together and we study from the Word of God,

  101. we're reminded constantly that the Word of God must have some effect in our lives for this world.

  102. And I think that if our church errs,

  103. we err to the side of sitting and listening and learning,

  104. being all deep and theological,

  105. and not actually doing anything with what we know to be true.

  106. We come and we sit.

  107. We gain it.

  108. We're in our little Christian bubble.

  109. We go off.

  110. We hang out in our Christian bubbles.

  111. And we don't consider the fact that the gospel was made for the world.

  112. So I hope this morning it'll serve that purpose,

  113. that it will be, in fact, a bit distracting to you.

  114. Hopefully not too much to me.

  115. Maybe why I stopped doing it altogether,

  116. but that I will continue to preach to you as this goes on.

  117. So, Reese, you ready?

  118. We have to ask ourselves,

  119. what is this life for?

  120. When we became children of God,

  121. why did God not just bring us home with Him?

  122. It's a good question to ask.

  123. I ask that question often.

  124. I am tired of being in this world.

  125. This world is messed up.

  126. I am sick of being here.

  127. I'm sick of experiencing pain.

  128. I'm sick of dealing with the sin that plagues me so often.

  129. I want to go home.

  130. I want to be with Jesus.

  131. But yet we're here, living between two worlds.

  132. And so, why?

  133. Why is that the case?

  134. James 4.14, James says,

  135. What is your life?

  136. For you are a mist that appears for a little time,

  137. and then vanishes.

  138. And I can tell you that we will look back on our lives

  139. at the end of all things,

  140. and we will not regret

  141. not having spent more time with video games

  142. or watching movies

  143. or looking at Facebook,

  144. playing or watching sports,

  145. whichever category you fall into there.

  146. 30 seconds comes fast.

  147. We will not regret any of those things.

  148. But I do believe that we're all going to look back at our lives

  149. and we'll regret not having done more

  150. for the kingdom of God.

  151. That we're going to wish that we had just done a little more

  152. for some of these causes.

  153. That we had shared our faith more readily.

  154. That we will have done more things that count in eternity

  155. versus just flittering away our time

  156. with things that make no sense whatsoever.

  157. Either here or there.

  158. Makes no sense at all.

  159. John 17, beginning of verse 13.

  160. This is aptly dubbed the high priestly prayer.

  161. Jesus knows that his death is imminent

  162. and he's praying now on behalf of the disciples

  163. and his believers, his followers beyond that as well.

  164. And he says,

  165. But now I am coming to you,

  166. and these things I speak in the world.

  167. This is verse 13.

  168. That they may have my joy fulfilled in themselves.

  169. I have given them your word,

  170. and the world has hated them

  171. because they are not of the world,

  172. just as I am not of the world.

  173. I do not ask that you take them out of the world,

  174. but that you keep them from the evil one.

  175. They are not of the world,

  176. just as I am not of the world.

  177. Sanctify them in the truth.

  178. Your word is truth.

  179. As you sent me into the world,

  180. so I have sent them into the world.

  181. And for their sake,

  182. I consecrate myself,

  183. that they also may be sanctified in truth.

  184. I do not ask for these only,

  185. but also for those who will believe in me

  186. through their word.

  187. Now recognize that this prayer

  188. is primarily aimed at the apostles,

  189. but he broadens this whole prayer out for us

  190. in verse 20.

  191. So this prayer is for us,

  192. and we can learn some things from it, right?

  193. As many of us would prefer

  194. to be taken out of this world,

  195. look at what Jesus says in verse 13.

  196. I'm coming to you,

  197. I, Jesus, am coming to you, God,

  198. and speak these things in the world

  199. that they may have my joy fulfilled in themselves.

  200. It is hard to recognize this

  201. and to wrap our minds around this

  202. to really understand what that means

  203. that in this day,

  204. as we deal with the troubles of this world,

  205. that we might have the joy of Christ in us.

  206. But this is what Jesus is saying, right?

  207. He is asking for these things for his disciples

  208. so that we will have his joy fulfilled in us.

  209. I think some of this is expressed

  210. by Paul in Philippians chapter 1,

    Philippians 1:21–25

  211. verses 21 through 25,

  212. where he says,

  213. For to me, to live is Christ,

  214. and to die is gain.

  215. If I'm going to live, I get Christ.

  216. I gain Christ.

  217. But to die is a greater gain.

  218. That's what he says there.

  219. If I'm to live in the flesh,

  220. that means fruitful labor for me.

  221. Yet which will I choose?

  222. I cannot tell.

  223. I'm hard-pressed between the two.

  224. My desire is to depart and be with Christ,

  225. for that is far better.

  226. But to remain in the flesh

  227. is more necessary on your account.

  228. Convinced of this,

  229. I know that I will remain

  230. and continue with you all

  231. for your progress and joy in the faith.

  232. Right?

  233. Paul understood this conflict

  234. that was happening within him.

  235. That there was a joy that was his now

  236. and a greater joy that was to be his later.

  237. And here we see that that's true of us as well.

  238. For whatever reason,

  239. we're left here to work out

  240. the coming of the kingdom of God

  241. as the hands and feet of Christ.

  242. And this is for our joy.

  243. Notice that Jesus asks

  244. not only for their divine protection

  245. in verse 14.

  246. We see you make this request.

  247. Jesus knows that there will be hostility

  248. towards his disciples.

  249. Right?

  250. He has already experienced this to be true.

  251. He's about to experience it

  252. in the greatest way.

  253. And as those who follow Jesus Christ,

  254. he knows there will be hostility towards them.

  255. So he prays in verse 14 and 15 and 16

  256. for divine protection for them.

  257. Right?

  258. So that Jesus would spare them

  259. from the evil one.

  260. That he would keep temptation at bay.

  261. And we have to learn later

  262. throughout our New Testament

  263. how it is that this comes about.

  264. But he doesn't only ask for that.

  265. But he also asks

  266. for their divine sanctification.

  267. Verse 17,

  268. verse 18,

  269. and verse 19.

  270. Right?

  271. Firstly, we can see

  272. the request that he makes of God,

  273. which is verse 17.

  274. Sanctify them

  275. in the truth.

  276. Your word

  277. is truth.

  278. So if these people

  279. are to live

  280. in this world,

  281. be left behind

  282. in this way

  283. for your glory,

  284. I ask that you

  285. sanctify them

  286. in the truth.

  287. And he clarifies for us

  288. what that means.

  289. Your word

  290. is truth.

  291. These scriptures here,

  292. this is the way

  293. in which we are set apart

  294. for the purposes

  295. of God.

  296. A great example

  297. of what it means

  298. to be sanctified.

  299. When Sam and I

  300. got married,

  301. she bought a plate

  302. that was on sale

  303. at Lifeway.

  304. And it's a red plate

  305. and it's got some bright colors

  306. in the middle of it

  307. and around the outside edge

  308. it says,

  309. you are very special.

  310. Right?

  311. And we decided

  312. that plate for us

  313. was going to be

  314. the plate we were going to use

  315. in our family

  316. to celebrate a big thing.

  317. So we use it on birthdays,

  318. I,

  319. once a year,

  320. I've never gotten it

  321. any other time,

  322. but once a year

  323. I get the

  324. you are very special plate.

  325. I imagine when there are

  326. some graduations

  327. that happen

  328. and we want to build

  329. a tradition

  330. with this special plate.

  331. We'll bring it out

  332. for that very purpose.

  333. And it would be horrible

  334. to do anything else with it.

  335. That is what

  336. is it intended for.

  337. And that is the same way

  338. that we are set apart

  339. for God.

  340. Sanctified in that way.

  341. So we've been set apart

  342. but then there's also

  343. a working out

  344. of this reality as well.

  345. As we've been set apart

  346. we are being set apart

  347. from this world.

  348. Sanctified for a very

  349. specific purpose

  350. and that is to serve

  351. the glory of our Lord.

  352. And we're sanctified

  353. in the truth.

  354. So we should be theological.

  355. That's important.

  356. I mentioned earlier

  357. that sometimes our church

  358. may err to the side

  359. of being theological

  360. without being missional.

  361. We should be theological.

  362. We cannot dismiss that.

  363. In fact,

  364. we must be properly theological

  365. if we're going to be

  366. properly missional at all.

  367. We have to do this.

  368. This must take place.

  369. Sunday morning preaching.

  370. Bible studies.

  371. Immerse yourself in it

  372. as much as you possibly can.

  373. Study the Word of God

  374. on your own.

  375. Use all of the vast amount

  376. of aids that are available

  377. to us to understand

  378. this precious book.

  379. We must be sanctified

  380. in the truth.

  381. We must be properly theological

  382. if we're going to be

  383. properly missional.

  384. Going to the world.

  385. Jesus makes a request

  386. but there's a reason

  387. for the request.

  388. He asks that the disciples

  389. will be sanctified

  390. in the truth

  391. because of verse 18.

  392. He says,

  393. As you sent me into the world,

  394. so have I sent them

  395. into the world.

  396. So have I sent them

  397. into the world.

  398. Remember the life of Jesus?

  399. We're in Mark

  400. and we're only really gone

  401. through the first three chapters

  402. and Jesus has done

  403. a massive amount

  404. of social work

  405. in the community.

  406. He has done tons of healing.

  407. And we know that

  408. He was doing that

  409. with the primary purpose

  410. of validating the message

  411. that He was bringing.

  412. We don't minimize the message

  413. in this way at all.

  414. I'm not talking about

  415. a social gospel.

  416. I'm talking about activity

  417. that supports

  418. and gives evidence

  419. that we are, in fact,

  420. people who believe

  421. in the gospel

  422. of Jesus Christ.

  423. We are people that understand

  424. that the gospel

  425. of Jesus Christ

  426. includes the redemption

  427. of souls

  428. but also includes

  429. the redemption

  430. of other things

  431. as well.

  432. The corruption

  433. that sin has brought

  434. into this world.

  435. And so He knows

  436. as they've been sent

  437. into the world,

  438. as He was sent

  439. into the world,

  440. that they're going

  441. to receive trouble.

  442. They're going to have

  443. to be set apart

  444. in a very specific way.

  445. And that's why

  446. they must be sanctified

  447. in the truth.

  448. And we can see

  449. in verse 19

  450. the basis

  451. for His request.

  452. He says,

  453. And for their sake

  454. I consecrate Myself.

  455. That word consecrate

  456. could also be read

  457. as sanctified.

  458. I set apart Myself

  459. that they also may be

  460. sanctified

  461. or consecrated

  462. in the truth.

  463. Because of what

  464. Christ has done,

  465. those who are followers

  466. of Christ

  467. can be

  468. sanctified in the truth.

  469. Can be sent

  470. into the world

  471. to accomplish

  472. the great ends

  473. of glorifying God

  474. to the ends

  475. of the earth.

  476. So the basis of it

  477. is the person

  478. and the work

  479. of Jesus Christ.

  480. So we must be

  481. properly theological.

  482. We must be

  483. properly theological.

  484. But if we're doing so,

  485. we are going to be

  486. properly missional.

  487. We will in fact

  488. go out to the world.

  489. We will go

  490. change things.

  491. The world ought to be

  492. a better place

  493. because we're here.

  494. because we have

  495. the light of Christ

  496. within us.

  497. It ought to be

  498. a better place.

  499. The University of

  500. North Georgia,

  501. I have to tell you

  502. my notes say

  503. UNG and that's

  504. the first time

  505. I've typed it.

  506. Weird.

  507. UNG should be

  508. a better place

  509. because all you

  510. students are there

  511. at the University

  512. of North Georgia.

  513. The towns we live in,

  514. this region,

  515. should be a better place

  516. because of the grace

  517. of God that's working

  518. in us.

  519. And do you think,

  520. do you think

  521. that people are saying

  522. of us,

  523. well I don't believe

  524. what they believe.

  525. I hate the message.

  526. Not a fan of this

  527. gospel message

  528. that they're going

  529. around preaching

  530. all the time,

  531. but I'm sure glad

  532. they're here.

  533. Man am I glad

  534. they're here.

  535. They make this world

  536. a better place.

  537. This should be true

  538. of us.

  539. Because while we have

  540. a salvation that comes

  541. by faith alone,

  542. hear me clearly,

  543. our salvation has

  544. nothing to do

  545. with our works.

  546. Our works are

  547. as filthy rags.

  548. There is nothing

  549. we can do

  550. to earn our salvation.

  551. Our salvation

  552. comes by faith alone,

  553. but the good deeds

  554. do matter

  555. because they're

  556. the evidence

  557. of our salvation.

  558. Those who are Christ

  559. will necessarily

  560. live that out

  561. in practical

  562. and real,

  563. tangible,

  564. measurable ways.

  565. We will be able

  566. to see fruit.

  567. It's the language

  568. constantly used

  569. in the scriptures,

  570. the analogy

  571. that's used of us.

  572. Classically,

  573. Matthew 7,

    Matthew 7:17

  574. verses 17 and 18.

  575. So every healthy tree

  576. bears good fruit,

  577. but the diseased tree

  578. bears bad fruit.

  579. A healthy tree

  580. cannot bear bad fruit,

  581. nor can a diseased tree

  582. bear good fruit.

  583. This is true

  584. of those who are Christ.

  585. And the immediate question

  586. must be,

  587. but wait a minute.

  588. You're tossing

  589. figurative children

  590. into a trash can

  591. every 30 seconds,

  592. and I've not done

  593. anything in my life

  594. to stop this issue.

  595. Does it make me

  596. not a Christian?

  597. Not necessarily.

  598. Not necessarily.

  599. All of us

  600. wax and wane.

  601. All of us

  602. go through great times

  603. of fervor in our lives

  604. where we're devoted

  605. to the Lord,

  606. and at times

  607. where we're not

  608. so much.

  609. But the encouragement

  610. here is that

  611. we must pursue

  612. good works.

  613. We must press

  614. into these things.

  615. We must fix

  616. our eyes on Jesus

  617. so that the things

  618. of this world

  619. will grow strangely dim.

  620. I'm glad they played

  621. that song

  622. right before I preached.

  623. That we fix our gaze

  624. in that direction

  625. so that we will be

  626. actively looking for ways

  627. that we can better

  628. this place.

  629. 1 Peter 2,

    1 Peter 2:12

  630. verse 12.

  631. Peter says,

  632. Keep your conduct

  633. among the Gentiles

  634. honorable,

  635. so that when they speak

  636. against you as evildoers,

  637. and they will,

  638. they certainly will,

  639. they may see your good deeds

  640. and glorify God

  641. on the day of visitation.

  642. These deeds matter.

  643. Paul,

  644. in writing to Titus

  645. in chapter 3,

  646. says,

  647. Remind them to be submissive

  648. to rulers

  649. and authorities,

  650. to be obedient,

  651. to be ready

  652. for every good work,

  653. to speak evil

  654. of no one,

  655. to avoid quarreling,

  656. to be gentle

  657. and to show courtesy

  658. toward all people.

  659. 4 We ourselves

  660. were once foolish.

  661. Here's the reasoning.

  662. Here's the gospel motivation

  663. for living in this way.

  664. We should live like this

  665. because,

  666. verse 3,

  667. we ourselves

  668. were once foolish,

  669. disobedient,

  670. led astray,

  671. slaves to various passions

  672. and pleasures,

  673. passing our days

  674. in malice and envy,

  675. hated by others

  676. and hating one another.

  677. But when the goodness

  678. and loving kindness

  679. of God our Savior appeared,

  680. He saved us,

  681. not because of works

  682. done by us in righteousness,

  683. but according to

  684. His own mercy,

  685. by the washing of regeneration

  686. and renewal

  687. of the Holy Spirit,

  688. whom He poured out on us

  689. richly through Jesus Christ,

  690. our Savior,

  691. so that being justified

  692. by His grace,

  693. we might become heirs

  694. according to the hope

  695. of eternal life.

  696. So now notice,

  697. as Paul's writing to Titus,

  698. he says to him,

  699. do good works.

  700. Here's why,

  701. this gospel message,

  702. right?

  703. I'm not going to take the time

  704. to sum all of that up

  705. for you today,

  706. but because of what God

  707. has done on your behalf,

  708. in Christ Jesus.

  709. And then look how he finishes it up.

  710. Verse 8,

  711. the saying is trustworthy,

  712. and I want you to insist

  713. on these things,

  714. so that those who have believed in God

  715. may be careful to devote themselves

  716. to good works.

  717. These things are excellent

  718. and profitable for people.

  719. For those who are believers,

  720. certainly,

  721. but for people in general.

  722. This was the general Greek term

  723. for mankind,

  724. for humanity.

  725. It is good

  726. for those who know Christ

  727. to devote themselves

  728. to good works

  729. for the good of everybody.

  730. One of the greatest ways

  731. we can show this world

  732. their great need

  733. of a Savior

  734. is to live in this way,

  735. to bring about social change,

  736. to show them

  737. the error of their ways,

  738. and then show them

  739. the right way

  740. to live,

  741. to preach the law

  742. to them

  743. so that they know

  744. they're sinful,

  745. so that they know

  746. they need a Savior.

  747. We must be about this.

  748. James said it this way,

  749. religion that is pure

  750. and undefiled

  751. before God the Father

  752. is this,

  753. to visit orphans and widows

  754. in their affliction

  755. and to keep oneself

  756. unstained from the world.

  757. So to avoid the things

  758. of the world

  759. and to visit orphans

  760. and widows

  761. in their affliction,

  762. which we should be about.

  763. Hear me,

  764. we should definitely be about

  765. visiting orphans and widows.

  766. The reason he uses

  767. these two particular people groups

  768. is that these would have been

  769. the most infringed people group.

  770. These were the people

  771. that had no rights whatsoever

  772. of their own.

  773. A widow without a husband

  774. had no property ownership,

  775. had no rights at all.

  776. Orphans had no rights

  777. because they didn't have a father.

  778. So these were people

  779. who were defenseless.

  780. And in our day and age,

  781. there are many,

  782. many defenseless

  783. who are being murdered

  784. every day.

  785. One every 30 seconds.

  786. I think I'm getting

  787. an internal clock now,

  788. Reese.

  789. I know when to look up at you.

  790. Galatians chapter 2.

    Galatians 2 chapter mention

  791. I want you to turn there with me.

  792. Galatians chapter 2.

    Galatians 2 chapter mention

  793. This is another really wonderful

  794. example of this.

  795. As we see Paul

  796. commending himself

  797. to the Galatian church,

  798. establishing once again with them

  799. the purity of his gospel.

  800. Because you remember that

  801. in Galatia,

  802. the Judaizers had come in

  803. who had said

  804. that Jesus is good.

  805. This new faith you found

  806. is good,

  807. except you need to be circumcised.

  808. There's still some aspects

  809. of the Old Testament law

  810. that we need you to keep.

  811. And this was diluting

  812. the gospel message.

  813. They thought that they were

  814. saved by faith in Christ

  815. and circumcision.

  816. And he writes the letter

  817. to the Galatians

  818. to set that straight.

  819. So he's reestablishing

  820. the purity

  821. of this doctrine.

  822. And beginning in verse 1

  823. of chapter 2,

  824. he says,

  825. So he went.

  826. He's talking about

  827. this past tense thing.

  828. After 14 years,

  829. he went to present to them

  830. the gospel as he was

  831. preaching it to the Gentiles,

  832. which was justification

  833. by faith alone.

  834. He was saying to them,

  835. you do not need

  836. to be circumcised.

  837. There's no need

  838. for outward religion

  839. for you to be saved.

  840. So he goes up

  841. to be sure

  842. that he was getting it right,

  843. that he was getting it straight.

  844. Verse 3,

  845. But even Titus,

  846. who was with me,

  847. was not forced

  848. to be circumcised,

  849. though he was a Greek.

  850. Yet because a false brother

  851. secretly brought in,

  852. who slipped in

  853. to spy out our freedom

  854. that we have in Christ Jesus

  855. so that they may bring us

  856. into slavery,

  857. to them we did not

  858. yield in submission

  859. even for a moment

  860. so that the truth

  861. of the gospel

  862. might be preserved for you.

  863. And from those

  864. who seem to be influential,

  865. what they were

  866. makes no difference to me.

  867. God shows no partiality.

  868. Those, I say,

  869. who seemed influential

  870. added nothing to me.

  871. On the contrary,

  872. when they saw

  873. that I had been

  874. entrusted with the gospel

  875. to the uncircumcised,

  876. just as Peter had been

  877. entrusted with the gospel

  878. to the circumcised,

  879. for he who worked

  880. through Peter

  881. for his apostolic ministry

  882. to the circumcised

  883. worked also through me

  884. from mine to the Gentiles.

  885. And when James

  886. and Cephas,

  887. or Peter,

  888. and John,

  889. who seemed to be pillars,

  890. perceived the grace

  891. that was given to me,

  892. they gave me

  893. the right hand of fellowship

  894. to barn us and to me,

  895. that we should go

  896. to the Gentiles

  897. and they to the circumcised.

  898. Now, catch what's happening here.

  899. They're having

  900. a theological debate.

  901. He has come back,

  902. presented this gospel

  903. that he's been presenting

  904. to the Gentiles

  905. to make sure

  906. that it was pure.

  907. He's gone to those

  908. who seemed influential.

  909. I like that he adds,

  910. not that it mattered

  911. at all to him,

  912. but they seem to be influential,

  913. so those are the ones

  914. I went and talked to.

  915. And they go and they have

  916. this theological debate.

  917. And the conclusion of that

  918. we see in verse 10.

  919. So they extend

  920. the hand of fellowship.

  921. Yes, this gospel

  922. you're preaching is pure.

  923. We're going to the circumcised.

  924. You continue to go

  925. to the uncircumcised.

  926. Verse 10,

  927. Only they asked us

  928. to remember the poor.

  929. The very thing

  930. I was eager to do.

  931. So right on the heels

  932. of this having this

  933. theological debate

  934. about the purity

  935. of the gospels

  936. they were preaching,

  937. they say,

  938. Don't forget

  939. to do practical things

  940. to show the grace

  941. of God to us in Christ.

  942. You catching that?

  943. Now, yet we've not seen

  944. any specific instructions

  945. to plead the cause

  946. of the unborn.

  947. I recognize that.

  948. There's a clear biblical case

  949. for what is and isn't life.

  950. And I'm not going to make

  951. that case to you today.

  952. I'm going to assume

  953. that all of you

  954. believe that to be true.

  955. It's self-evident,

  956. I would say.

  957. But we can see here

  958. that we're both supposed

  959. to speak for those

  960. who can't speak for themselves.

  961. The widows and the orphans

  962. given to us in James.

  963. And here we see in Galatians

  964. this record of them

  965. asking to speak

  966. on behalf of the poor.

  967. Now, the poor in this day

  968. would have also been

  969. primarily disenfranchised people,

  970. not landowners,

  971. unable to make much money

  972. on their own.

  973. But even if we just define

  974. poverty the way we do

  975. in our current day,

  976. it's important to know

  977. that 57%

  978. of all abortions

  979. are had by women

  980. who live below

  981. the poverty line.

  982. You know what the poverty line is

  983. in this country?

  984. If you're a single person,

  985. it's $11,490.

  986. So, college students,

  987. are you guys all

  988. below the poverty line?

  989. I think you are.

  990. Now, you can add

  991. to that simple little equation,

  992. add to that $4,020

  993. for each person

  994. you add to the family.

  995. And if you do the math,

  996. if you have four people

  997. in a family,

  998. the poverty line

  999. is $23,550.

1000. That's an incredibly low line.

  1001. I don't know a family of four

1002. that can live on $23,550.

  1003. Introduce me to them

  1004. if you find them.

1005. I want to learn from them

1006. and how they spend their money.

  1007. So, family of four,

  1008. $23,550.

  1009. 57% of abortions

  1010. are happening

  1011. with women that are

  1012. categorized as below

  1013. the poverty line,

  1014. which means that

1015. a vast number of abortions

1016. are happening above that line

1017. for people that really are

  1018. what we would consider

  1019. traditionally as poor,

  1020. low-income,

  1021. impoverished individuals.

1022. So, this is a rampant thing

  1023. that's happening

  1024. in our country.

  1025. In fact,

1026. by the age of 45,

  1027. one in three women

1028. will have had an abortion.

  1029. At least one.

1030. By the age of 45,

  1031. one in three women

1032. will have had an abortion.

1033. And that means a lot for us

  1034. because that means

1035. that there are probably people

  1036. that we know

  1037. who have had abortions.

1038. We may not know that they have,

  1039. but they have.

  1040. That means there's probably

  1041. somebody in this room

  1042. that's had an abortion.

  1043. It's likely

1044. that that is the case.

  1045. And I can't possibly,

1046. if you have had an abortion,

  1047. justify your actions.

1048. But what I can say to you

1049. is that there's great grace

  1050. for every sin.

1051. And we can praise God

  1052. for that together

1053. because all of my sin

  1054. is just as horrible

  1055. as yours.

1056. And we have an opportunity

  1057. to preach the gospel

1058. to people who have had

  1059. abortions.

  1060. That's a great need

1061. in this country as well

  1062. as this wrong,

  1063. this endemic cultural wrong

  1064. has affected so many,

1065. in fact, in some ways

1066. victimized a lot of women

  1067. who have had abortions.

1068. Abortion's not good for women.

  1069. Health statistics,

1070. we've been able to amass

1071. a bunch of them now

  1072. since it's been 40 years

  1073. since Roe v. Wade.

1074. Let me just give you a couple.

  1075. Health-wise,

1076. women who have had abortions,

  1077. depending on the study

  1078. you look at,

1079. are at a higher risk

  1080. of breast cancer,

  1081. 50% and up to 300%

  1082. more likely to have

  1083. breast cancer.

1084. And this is correlated back

  1085. to the abortive procedure.

  1086. Massive, massive damage

  1087. to a woman's body.

  1088. Psychologically,

  1089. post-abortion patients

  1090. in a study,

  1091. eight weeks after

  1092. their abortion,

  1093. 44% of them reported

  1094. having a nervous disorder,

  1095. 36% of them a sleep disorder,

  1096. and 11% of them

  1097. had been prescribed

  1098. psychotropic medicine

  1099. eight weeks

  1100. after having had

  1101. an abortion.

  1102. There's a lot of damage

  1103. to a woman.

1104. I would say to you

  1105. that the pro-life movement

  1106. is a pro-woman movement,

  1107. not an anti-woman movement.

  1108. Further,

  1109. women will be held

  1110. accountable for their actions.

  1111. Romans 14,

    Romans 14:10

  1112. verses 10 and 12

  1113. says,

  1114. We will all stand

  1115. before the judgment seat

  1116. of God.

  1117. For it is written,

  1118. As I live,

  1119. says the Lord,

1120. every knee shall bow to me

1121. and every tongue shall confess.

1122. So then each of us

  1123. will give an account

  1124. of himself to God.

  1125. There's a spirit issue

  1126. at place

  1127. with this problem.

  1128. And we must be

1129. preaching the gospel to it.

  1130. We must be speaking

  1131. to these young ladies.

1132. We must be warning them

  1133. of the judgment

  1134. that will come.

  1135. Right?

1136. As we need to be warning

  1137. all people of this.

  1138. Abortion is not good

  1139. for our nation.

  1140. We are a nation

1141. that was founded on liberty.

1142. We still claim to have some.

  1143. Maybe that's slipping

  1144. in your opinion

  1145. as we hear about

  1146. all the scandals

1147. and things that are going on.

  1148. It's quite likely

  1149. you're feeling a little less liberated

1150. than you may have before.

1151. But we at least say

  1152. that we're a nation

  1153. that believes in freedom,

  1154. that believes in liberty.

1155. I would argue to you

1156. that this is a biblical

1157. right that is granted to us.

  1158. One of my favorite

  1159. presidential candidates

1160. by the name of Ron Paul

  1161. is quoted as saying,

1162. if you can't protect life,

1163. then how can you protect liberty?

  1164. The greatest minority

  1165. is the individual.

1166. There's no other Nathan Rayner.

  1167. And if my rights

1168. aren't going to be protected,

1169. then how is anybody's rights

  1170. going to be protected?

1171. We're having the wrong conversations

1172. on the political scale, right?

1173. If we can't protect life,

1174. then how can we protect liberty?

  1175. Abortion's obviously not good

  1176. for babies.

  1177. 1.2 million this year.

  1178. I think it's 54 million and counting

1179. since Roe v. Wade was passed

  1180. have been avoided.

1181. And abortion is not good

  1182. for our church.

  1183. Abortion is not good

  1184. for our church.

1185. If we're going to be people

  1186. who are properly theological,

  1187. who care about making

1188. a difference in this world,

  1189. who want this world

  1190. to say of us,

  1191. I am glad that

  1192. Christ Family Church exists,

  1193. then this issue

1194. is not good for us.

  1195. Because we need

1196. to be getting engaged with it.

1197. We need to be actively

  1198. finding ways

1199. that we can bring about

  1200. redemption

  1201. in these situations.

  1202. And so the question

  1203. is raised then,

  1204. what should we do?

  1205. What should we do?

  1206. I hope that your heart's moving

  1207. in this direction.

  1208. What should we do?

  1209. What can I do?

  1210. What an immense problem.

  1211. 1.2 million children a year.

  1212. How is it possible

1213. that I could ever be involved

  1214. in bringing about change

  1215. in this situation?

1216. Let me say to you firstly,

  1217. pray.

  1218. Clay said rightly

  1219. last Thursday evening

  1220. that prayer

  1221. is the thermometer

  1222. for our Christian life.

  1223. How many of you

  1224. would admit

  1225. that your life,

  1226. your Christian life

  1227. is cold?

  1228. Pray.

  1229. Have your heart broken

1230. that this is an issue

  1231. in our country.

  1232. And pray.

  1233. God uses the prayers

  1234. of His people

  1235. to accomplish

  1236. His will.

  1237. 1 John 5

    1 John 5:14–15

  1238. verse 14-15

  1239. John writes,

1240. Listen, this is the confidence

1241. that we have toward Him.

1242. That if we ask anything

  1243. according to His will,

  1244. He hears us.

  1245. And if we know

  1246. that He hears us

  1247. in whatever we ask,

1248. we know that we have

  1249. the request

  1250. that we have asked

  1251. of Him.

  1252. If we ask anything

  1253. in the Father's will,

1254. we know that He hears us.

  1255. It doesn't always answer

1256. the way we want answered,

1257. but we know that He hears us

1258. and we know that He's

  1259. working things out

  1260. in His perfect timing.

1261. And we can take comfort

  1262. in passages like Amos 5, 24.

1263. But let justice roll down

  1264. like the waters

  1265. and righteousness

  1266. like an ever-flowing stream.

1267. I tell you this morning

  1268. that God cares

  1269. about the unborn.

1270. He cares about what's happening.

  1271. And He certainly

  1272. could come down now

  1273. and judge everyone

1274. and save all of those babies.

  1275. I don't understand

1276. why He's working things out

  1277. the way He is.

  1278. I can't wrap my mind

  1279. around why God

  1280. is accomplishing His fame

1281. the way He's accomplishing it.

  1282. But I know this,

1283. that He's given it to us

1284. to be moving and active,

1285. to be used by Him

  1286. to accomplish His will.

1287. And it starts with prayer.

  1288. Prayer is the foundation

1289. for anything effective we do

  1290. in our Christian lives.

  1291. It is pointless

1292. to try to do anything

  1293. without first setting it

  1294. to prayer.

  1295. So pray.

1296. Gosh, you can do that easily.

1297. All of us can be involved

  1298. in bringing about change

  1299. in this way.

1300. You don't have to run

  1301. in spheres.

1302. You might live in a country

  1303. someday that abortion

  1304. is not even.

  1305. an issue.

1306. But you can still pray

  1307. this would be something

  1308. that would be brought

  1309. to reckoning

  1310. in our lifetime.

  1311. Secondly,

  1312. be politically responsible.

  1313. Be politically responsible.

  1314. Young people,

  1315. be politically responsible.

1316. I know that your one vote

  1317. doesn't feel like much

  1318. in the wide range

  1319. of things.

  1320. But if everyone

  1321. has that attitude,

1322. they're not going to take

1323. the time out of their day,

  1324. not going to do

  1325. their research.

  1326. If everyone does that,

  1327. which many people do,

  1328. then people get elected

1329. that we may not want

  1330. to be elected.

  1331. This has happened recently,

  1332. hasn't it?

  1333. Be politically responsible.

  1334. This is a responsibility

1335. that has been given to you

  1336. to search out candidates,

1337. not just at the federal level,

1338. but at the local level as well.

1339. We need to be vetting

1340. the people that represent us.

1341. Get to know your district.

  1342. We've got congressional elections

  1343. coming up in 2014.

  1344. Do you know?

1345. Do you know what district

  1346. you live in?

1347. Do you know who represents

  1348. your district?

1349. You should find that out

1350. and you should do it ASAP.

1351. And you should figure out

  1352. not just if they're pro-life,

  1353. but if they're actually

  1354. doing something about it.

  1355. I've heard the argument

  1356. that Roe v. Wade

  1357. doesn't actually have

  1358. to be overturned,

  1359. that the Supreme Court

  1360. wouldn't actually have

  1361. to overturn it,

  1362. but that Congress

1363. could simply pass a law

  1364. defining life,

  1365. which would therefore

  1366. make abortion illegal.

  1367. Now, more than likely,

  1368. the Supreme Court

  1369. would take that law

1370. and want to overturn it again.

  1371. But could you imagine

  1372. just the pace

  1373. that things work at?

1374. If Congress would pass that law,

1375. we might have a year

  1376. where abortion is illegal

1377. and clinics would shut down.

  1378. A year would be

  1379. a wonderful gift.

  1380. 1.2 million children

1381. would be spared in that year.

  1382. And those clinics

  1383. may or may not

1384. even be able to start up.

  1385. Even if that, right?

  1386. We need to be

  1387. politically responsible.

1388. We need to be doing

  1389. what we can

1390. to put men in power

1391. who will not just say

  1392. I'm pro-life

1393. so that I can appeal

  1394. to my constituency,

  1395. but I'm pro-life

  1396. to the point

1397. that I will do something.

  1398. I will do what I can

  1399. about the issue.

  1400. So be politically responsible.

  1401. Thirdly,

  1402. educate yourself

  1403. and others

  1404. with a great deal

  1405. of compassion.

  1406. Educate yourself.

  1407. Some of you

  1408. may be surprised

  1409. to even find out

  1410. this morning

  1411. that this many children

  1412. are aborted.

  1413. We tend to stay

  1414. fairly oblivious

  1415. to things like this

  1416. and I know

1417. the world you're living in.

  1418. I know the way

1419. information is coming at you.

1420. I'm right in the midst

  1421. of it all too.

  1422. It's coming

  1423. absolutely a mile a minute,

  1424. all the stuff

  1425. that's going on

1426. out there in the world.

  1427. Inform yourself

  1428. about this issue.

1429. There are so many causes

  1430. that the Christian church

  1431. can get behind

  1432. and we should.

  1433. A great example

  1434. of that right now

1435. is the End It movement

  1436. to stop

  1437. sex slave trafficking.

  1438. Good, good cause

1439. to be a part of.

1440. But if we've got to pick one,

  1441. this is the one.

  1442. Those are tragedies,

  1443. massive tragedies.

  1444. I don't want to make small

1445. of that kind of atrocity.

1446. This is the big one though.

  1447. If Christians are going

  1448. to get behind something,

  1449. this is the one

  1450. we should get behind.

  1451. So educate yourself.

  1452. Understand why

  1453. life is life.

  1454. Get that.

  1455. Learn how to make

  1456. a very clear,

  1457. compassionate argument

  1458. in that direction.

  1459. Right?

  1460. The world around us

  1461. is being inundated

  1462. with cultural messages.

  1463. Right?

  1464. Inundated with it.

  1465. Over years,

  1466. 40 years of trying

  1467. to convince people

  1468. that this really isn't

  1469. an issue of murder,

  1470. but it's just simply

  1471. an issue of convenience

  1472. or ethics.

  1473. Right?

  1474. That's not the case

  1475. with it.

  1476. We've got to educate,

  1477. we've got to unwind

  1478. that kind of thinking.

1479. We have to be able

  1480. to compassionately

  1481. have arguments,

  1482. recognizing that we may

  1483. never win the arguments

1484. at the time of the argument.

  1485. It may not be

  1486. until somebody walks away

  1487. and considers the things

1488. that have been said to them

1489. and lets it sink down

  1490. into them that they

  1491. change their mind.

1492. I'm thankful in this day

  1493. that there's quite a bit

  1494. of movement.

  1495. Previously,

  1496. last year,

  1497. 1.2 million.

  1498. The year before that,

  1499. 1.3.

  1500. Praise God,

  1501. 100,000 children

  1502. were not aborted

  1503. last year

  1504. or fewer women

  1505. got pregnant.

  1506. I don't know which,

  1507. but the numbers

  1508. have been going down

  1509. and there's some great

  1510. movement in this direction.

  1511. People are beginning

  1512. to see the fallacy

  1513. in the arguments.

  1514. I've read some articles,

  1515. two sides.

  1516. I read an article

  1517. by two bioethicists

  1518. who said,

1519. if we can abort children

  1520. in the womb,

1521. the argument cannot be made

  1522. that they're not life,

1523. we should also be able

  1524. to abort children

  1525. after they're born.

  1526. Unfortunately,

  1527. they weren't doing this

  1528. rhetorically.

  1529. Unfortunately,

  1530. they really meant it.

  1531. You have a child

  1532. that's born

  1533. with special needs,

  1534. you don't think

1535. you can handle that child,

1536. you can make that decision

  1537. at that point.

  1538. They're making this argument.

  1539. I've read another article,

1540. a lady who basically said

  1541. to the pro-choice movement,

  1542. stop saying it's not a life.

1543. That is such a dumb argument.

  1544. It's an obtuse argument.

1545. What we need to be saying is,

1546. one life is more important

  1547. than the other life.

  1548. Right?

  1549. So their logical argument

  1550. is breaking down.

  1551. They themselves

  1552. are beginning to see

  1553. how flawed it is,

1554. and we've got to step in

1555. with a great deal of love

  1556. and help them understand

  1557. the reality of that.

  1558. Right?

1559. We've got to come up

  1560. with solutions.

  1561. What do we do

  1562. with 1.2 million children

  1563. who are unwanted

  1564. in this country?

  1565. 54 million

1566. in the last 40 years.

1567. What are we going to do

  1568. with those people?

  1569. I don't know

  1570. the answer to that.

  1571. I really don't know.

  1572. How do we alleviate

1573. that kind of population explosion?

  1574. I have no idea,

  1575. but the solution

  1576. is not abortion.

  1577. It's not abortion.

  1578. So educate yourself

  1579. and others

1580. with a great deal of passion.

  1581. Next Sunday afternoon

  1582. at 1.30,

1583. I'm going to be here

1584. and I'm going to help

  1585. walk you through

  1586. that process,

  1587. present the common arguments

  1588. to you

1589. and the rebuttals to them.

1590. So if you'd like to join me

  1591. for that,

  1592. I'll remind you again

  1593. later about that,

1594. but I'll be here to help

  1595. with that process.

1596. We may even be able

  1597. to sharpen each other

  1598. in that way.

  1599. Fourthly,

  1600. get involved

  1601. with a local

  1602. pregnancy care center.

  1603. There's work happening

  1604. right where we are,

  1605. right in our community

  1606. to this end,

  1607. trying to counsel

  1608. with Christ-centered

  1609. counseling

1610. with a great deal of love

  1611. women who are pregnant,

1612. who are in a crisis situation.

1613. The one we have here in town

  1614. is great.

  1615. It's called

  1616. the Dahlonega Care Center

1617. and they do a lot of work

  1618. in this county.

  1619. I somehow managed

  1620. to get myself

  1621. to be the chairman

1622. of the board of directors.

1623. I do not know how

  1624. and I don't say that

  1625. to boast to you,

1626. but I say that to you

  1627. so that you know

  1628. I need your help.

  1629. I need your help

1630. with leading the care center

  1631. and being passionate

  1632. about it,

  1633. for throwing into

  1634. the efforts

  1635. that we're trying

  1636. to accomplish

  1637. to raise the funds

  1638. that are necessary

  1639. so that these ladies

  1640. can sit with these

  1641. young ladies

  1642. and counsel them

  1643. through this process.

  1644. Get involved.

  1645. They need all kinds

  1646. of help

1647. and we're going to be

  1648. bringing you the options.

  1649. We're doing work days

  1650. up there.

  1651. We just peeled weeds

1652. off the side of the building

  1653. the other day.

  1654. Another great family,

  1655. the Wadsworths

  1656. went out there

  1657. and replaced trim work

  1658. and cleaned the inside.

1659. They need that kind of stuff.

  1660. The folks that are

  1661. in the ground,

  1662. in the trenches

1663. doing that kind of work

  1664. need somebody

  1665. to come along

  1666. and sweep up

  1667. behind them sometimes

  1668. so they can keep

  1669. on working

  1670. with these people.

  1671. They need money.

  1672. It takes money

  1673. to run anything.

  1674. And we hold

  1675. so tightly to it.

1676. We do so many things

  1677. that are so frivolous

  1678. and stupid

  1679. with our money

1680. and I can tell you

1681. at the end of your life

  1682. you will wish

  1683. you had spent it

  1684. on greater causes.

1685. Things that will have you

  1686. gain more of Christ

  1687. in that activity

  1688. versus more stuff

  1689. for yourself.

  1690. They need

  1691. that kind of support.

  1692. So get involved

  1693. in those ways.

1694. I want you to reach

  1695. we're going to stop

  1696. the timer now.

  1697. Thank you.

  1698. I want everybody

  1699. to put your hand

  1700. over your heart.

1701. I'm not about to make

  1702. you make a pledge

  1703. so don't worry.

  1704. You feel that?

  1705. If you're up here

1706. you may not be able

  1707. to feel it.

  1708. It's about right here.

  1709. They're right there.

  1710. You feel that?

  1711. Just thumping away, right?

1712. It just keeps on going.

  1713. I heard John Piper

1714. in an interview one time

  1715. say that this cause

  1716. needs coronary Christians.

1717. I want you to get that

  1718. phrase programmed

  1719. into your head.

  1720. It needs coronary Christians.

  1721. Christians who are just

  1722. going to continue

  1723. to work and work

  1724. and work

  1725. and work

  1726. and work

  1727. to end

  1728. this tragedy.

  1729. Just keep on working.

  1730. Movements are great.

  1731. I mean,

  1732. praise God for movements.

  1733. God has used movements

  1734. in so many ways

  1735. where everybody gets

1736. super excited about a cause.

  1737. It flares up.

  1738. Everybody goes gung-ho

  1739. after it

1740. and then it peters out.

  1741. You guys remember

  1742. Invisible Children?

1743. Those of you who were young

  1744. about the tragedy

  1745. in Darfur?

  1746. Right?

  1747. A movement.

  1748. Right?

  1749. It flared up.

  1750. Everyone was super stoked

  1751. about it

  1752. and I haven't heard

  1753. anything about

  1754. Invisible Children

  1755. in years and years

  1756. and years and years.

  1757. Right?

  1758. We need coronary Christians.

  1759. Hear this.

1760. Our hearts keep us alive.

  1761. Right?

  1762. Our hearts are pumping

  1763. blood to our brains,

  1764. oxygenating our brains,

  1765. allowing our brains

  1766. to function.

1767. But you've got to get to

  1768. that our brain

  1769. is sending a signal

  1770. to our heart

  1771. to keep pumping.

  1772. Isn't it?

  1773. Just keeps on

  1774. thudding.

  1775. I don't think about

  1776. my heart beating.

  1777. It just does it.

  1778. My brain does this

  1779. as an automatic function.

  1780. Right?

  1781. So there's a cycle

  1782. that's going on here

  1783. and the gospel

1784. should be working in us

  1785. in the same way.

1786. As we've made new creations,

  1787. it should be automatically

1788. feeding us into good works.

  1789. We should be doing

  1790. that kind of thing

  1791. and our good works

1792. should be feeding our faith.

  1793. It should be coming

  1794. right back in

1795. as we get to see

  1796. and experience God

  1797. moving and working

  1798. in this world.

  1799. We need coronary Christians

  1800. around this cause.

  1801. We need to hear

  1802. the gospel truth

  1803. every day.

1804. We need to hear it.

1805. Not just the narrower version

  1806. of it,

  1807. which is so important

  1808. for the redemption

  1809. of our souls,

  1810. but the larger

  1811. expansive version of it

  1812. that Jesus has come

1813. to make all things new.

  1814. That he's setting

  1815. everything straight.

1816. That he's going to return us

  1817. once again to Eden

  1818. where everything was perfect.

  1819. Where sin and sickness,

  1820. death, abortion,

  1821. none of these things

  1822. existed in this state.

  1823. He's getting us back

  1824. to that place.

1825. This is the gospel message

1826. and we need to be

  1827. so invigorated by it

  1828. every single day.

  1829. And every moment

  1830. of every day

1831. if we're going to live

  1832. this way.

1833. If we're going to be

1834. about the cause of Christ

  1835. in this world.

  1836. C.S. Lewis in

  1837. Mere Christianity said,

1838. We have to be continually

1839. reminded of what we believe.

  1840. Neither this belief

  1841. nor any other

  1842. will automatically

  1843. remain alive

  1844. in the mind.

  1845. It must be fed.

  1846. We hope every Sunday

  1847. we feed you

  1848. with the good news

  1849. of Jesus Christ

1850. and that that moves you

1851. to work to his glory

  1852. in the world.

  1853. once a Sunday,

  1854. once a week

  1855. is not enough.

  1856. After lunch

1857. you may need to feed

  1858. the gospel

  1859. into your mind again.

  1860. You're going to need

1861. to do it throughout the day.

1862. You need to do it

  1863. throughout the week.

1864. Meet with us other times.

1865. None of that is enough.

  1866. You've got to delve

  1867. into the scriptures

  1868. sanctified

  1869. in the truth

  1870. because we've been

  1871. sent into this world

  1872. with a mission

  1873. just as Jesus

  1874. came into the world.

  1875. Let's pray together.
