  1. Mark chapter 6, we're going to begin reading together in verse 30, and we're going to read through the end of the chapter.

    Mark 6 chapter mention

  2. So hang with me and you'll soon understand why we're going to take such a big chunk of this.

  3. Not because I'm in any way eager to get through and to the end of Mark, but it's appropriate to deal with it together this morning.

  4. So beginning of verse 30 of chapter 6.

  5. The apostles returned to Jesus and told him all that they had done and taught.

  6. And he said to them,

  7. And he said,

  8. This is God's word to us written for his glory and our good.

  9. We would all do well to listen to it and obey it this morning.

  10. Let's pray together.

  11. Father, we do praise you this morning for the gift of your word.

  12. And we pray now that you will bless us together as we come and meet around it.

  13. As we come to look and to gaze into it.

  14. As we come to see what it is you would say to us this day by it.

  15. Father, we desire to look more like your son.

  16. And you accomplish that by your spirit and the preaching of your word.

  17. And we pray that that will be done in us this day.

  18. Make us more like him that we might exalt his name.

  19. And we pray this in Christ's name.

  20. Amen.

  21. Amen.

  22. So, we're coming to the end of chapter 6.

  23. And we have now seen miracle after miracle after miracle.

  24. In fact, Mark has been driving that kind of in comic book fashion.

  25. He's just been laying them out to us again and again and again.

  26. And here we see three more miracles.

  27. Rather magnificent ones.

  28. Two specific.

  29. And then a summary of Jesus' healing ministry.

  30. We've seen so far in the Gospel of Mark.

  31. Jesus' power over sickness.

  32. Over demons.

  33. Over creation.

  34. Over death.

  35. And over sin.

  36. And what Mark is doing for us in here is he's crying out to us.

  37. Jesus is the Christ.

  38. Jesus is the anointed one of God.

  39. Believe in Him.

  40. This is the point of his Gospel.

  41. That we might recognize Him for who He is.

  42. And follow Him accordingly.

  43. That is the cry.

  44. We have come now as we've been kind of marching through here.

  45. We've seen at the end of chapter 4.

  46. Jesus calming the Sea of Galilee.

  47. These massive waves that would rise up.

  48. Up to 10 feet tall.

  49. He simply speaks and it's calmed.

  50. He then lands on the shore.

  51. Casts out an army of demons out of a man.

  52. Puts them in pigs who drown in the sea.

  53. We've seen countless healings.

  54. Even summary of healings.

  55. Many, many people were being healed.

  56. It said that illness was altogether eradicated from Israel in this day.

  57. We've seen Him raise a young girl from the dead.

  58. We've seen Him rejected in His hometown.

  59. Which He then goes and sends out the Twelve on their first journey apart from Him.

  60. And then we saw last week the death of John the Baptist.

  61. And this is where we come.

  62. And we see the apostles are returning.

  63. They do a one verse debrief.

  64. I'd love to know some of the details of all that they had done and taught.

  65. But this is the detail that Mark gives us at this juncture.

  66. And Jesus says,

  67. Come away by yourselves to a desolate place and rest a while.

  68. Which is a plan that's interrupted.

  69. And then we see this coming series of miracles that are performed.

  70. These are the last miracles that Jesus will perform in Galilee.

  71. These two specific, the walking on water, the feeding of the 5,000.

  72. And then this kind of summary at the end of chapter 6 of this great number that's being healed.

  73. And after this, He leaves.

  74. He goes off to the Mediterranean coast, to the region of Tyre and Sidon.

  75. And He doesn't return to Galilee.

  76. This is His third time He's kind of made a sweep through the region.

  77. This is, if you will think of it in this way, kind of His last sermon presentation.

  78. This is His last days in this region, preaching the good news of the coming kingdom of God.

  79. So we would be remiss today if we didn't spend some time certainly talking about the amazing, incredible nature,

  80. awesome nature of these miracles.

  81. We see the first one that feeds all these people that are gathered.

  82. We see 5,000 men.

  83. Matthew makes it a little more explicit for us.

  84. It says 5,000 men besides women and children.

  85. Likely that every man there would have had a wife and some kids.

  86. Most scholars estimate somewhere between 20,000 and 25,000 people had followed them around the side of the sea

  87. and met them where they landed.

  88. There are only two miracles that are recorded in all four Gospels.

  89. There's only two.

  90. First is the resurrection of Jesus Christ.

  91. All four Gospels speak of that miracle.

  92. The second is this one, the feeding of the 5,000.

  93. Which means that it has some special significance.

  94. It's amazing.

  95. It's an incredible feat that He accomplished.

  96. But He's also done some other very incredible things.

  97. He's raised people from the dead.

  98. He's cast out legions of demons.

  99. He's calmed a storm.

  100. He's done all of this with the power of His Word.

  101. He's going to walk on water right after this.

  102. Incredible, incredible things.

  103. But all four of the Gospel writers were inspired to record this particular miracle.

  104. Next we see Him walking on water.

  105. Again, having dominion over creation.

  106. I, just for fun, was looking around on the internet a couple months ago

  107. and found a group of guys that are trying to run on water.

  108. This is like their new sport that they're doing.

  109. And they've managed to run fast enough that they can get about three steps out into the water before they sink.

  110. And it's kind of hilarious because they have to capture it on high-speed footage

  111. to even know that they're staying on top of the water.

  112. Because it's fairly, when you watch them do it, you're like,

  113. Yep, I've done that before.

  114. Run and crash into the water.

  115. But Jesus Himself took a stroll in a storm out on the sea.

  116. In fact, the record is that He intended just to pass by them.

  117. He was just going to walk on past as they were trying to tack in this storm,

  118. try to sail against the wind and arrive on the other coast.

  119. But when they see Him, He enters the boat with them.

  120. And then again, as I said, at the end here we see,

  121. after these things happen, this summary of healing.

  122. Anybody who heard coming to Him that they just might touch Him.

  123. He had that kind of power radiated out of Him.

  124. If somebody would just touch Him, they would be healed of whatever infirmary they had.

  125. So incredible miracles. Incredible.

  126. We have said time and time again, look at these miracles.

  127. Look at the way in which they lend evidence to the message that He was preaching.

  128. And that was the point all along.

  129. Jesus worked in these supernatural ways to say to people,

  130. listen to what I am telling you.

  131. People thronged around Him.

  132. Many thousands of people.

  133. Here we see likely 20 to 25,000 people.

  134. And if you'll catch this, they're kind of dumb.

  135. They've left and chased Him around the Sea of Galilee

  136. and have no provision for the day.

  137. Right? They're sheep wandering about

  138. and they've wandered together to meet Him on the other side of the sea.

  139. He's constantly pressed around.

  140. But He did all of this that people might hear the good news

  141. of the coming kingdom of God.

  142. We would do well to hear that from Him today.

  143. So I want us to note three things from the text.

  144. Firstly, notice Jesus' compassion.

  145. Notice His compassion.

  146. Verse 34 says,

  147. He had compassion on them because

  148. they were like sheep without a shepherd.

  149. Now I just want you to put in your mind

  150. kind of what's been going on and where Jesus is at.

  151. He's just been rejected in His hometown.

  152. Small town. Very little town Nazareth was.

  153. Everybody in Nazareth knew Him.

  154. And in fact, this wasn't the first time He had been rejected.

  155. This is the second time He had been rejected.

  156. He had been there about a year prior

  157. and they tried to throw Him off a cliff.

  158. And seemingly in some miraculous way,

  159. He passed through them and got away.

  160. So this is the second time He returns

  161. and He's once again rejected.

  162. And it actually says that He marveled at their unbelief.

  163. That He was amazed by the fact

  164. that they wouldn't accept Him as the Christ.

  165. We talked when we looked at that text

  166. that He did this to set an example for the apostles.

  167. He's about to send them out.

  168. He's going to give them some instruction

  169. on what to do when they're rejected.

  170. So He's a living example in that way.

  171. And He goes and says,

  172. See?

  173. People are going to reject even the Christ.

  174. Of course they will reject you.

  175. And He sends them out.

  176. And then we get this story

  177. interjected in the middle of all of this.

  178. It kind of...

  179. It's almost like you go to a different scene altogether.

  180. And we get this story

  181. of Herod beheading John the Baptist,

  182. which Kyle did a wonderful job with last week.

  183. And this is the end of that.

  184. This is the finality of that.

  185. We see in verse 29 of chapter 6,

  186. When His disciples heard of it,

  187. they came and took His body

  188. and laid it in a tomb.

  189. And then we see the record

  190. that the apostles returned to Jesus.

  191. And certainly, Jesus,

  192. if He hadn't already heard the news

  193. that John the Baptist had been beheaded,

  194. heard it at this point.

  195. The apostles returned to Him

  196. and He knows at this point

  197. what has happened to His cousin

  198. of some relation,

  199. some type of cousin, friend,

  200. the one who came before Him

  201. and heralded His coming.

  202. This man meant a lot to Him.

  203. And the response is,

  204. Come away by yourselves

  205. to a desolate place

  206. and rest a while.

  207. And note that at this point,

  208. He is with them,

  209. also going away

  210. to a desolate place

  211. to rest a while.

  212. And they're interrupted

  213. in this plan to go

  214. and to be still

  215. and to recharge

  216. by a throng of people.

  217. And I have to tell you

  218. that this text

  219. has particularly ministered to me

  220. over the last couple of weeks

  221. because I get this way sometimes.

  222. I get just so drained.

  223. And I'm just so tired.

  224. And then the phone call comes.

  225. Right?

  226. And you just go,

  227. Oh, not another phone call.

  228. I don't know if I can handle

  229. another thing.

  230. I don't know that I have

  231. anything else to give.

  232. And I imagine that this is the place

  233. that Jesus is at

  234. at this time.

  235. Right?

  236. Perfectly human.

  237. Perfectly God.

  238. I'm sure He had much more energy

  239. than I'll ever have in my life.

  240. However, He was, in fact, human.

  241. He felt pain.

  242. He felt sorrow.

  243. And here He's experiencing

  244. the loss of John the Baptist.

  245. He's been rejected

  246. in His hometown.

  247. And rather than

  248. turning the crowd away,

  249. rather than getting back in the boat

  250. and sailing someplace else,

  251. that's what I would have done.

  252. I would have taken off in the sea

  253. and stayed out there to rest.

  254. He sees the people

  255. and He has compassion on them.

  256. He sees them in their state.

  257. They're like sheep.

  258. And if you don't know much about sheep,

  259. sheep are fairly dumb animals.

  260. They need a shepherd.

  261. Sheep are left to themselves.

  262. They get slaughtered.

  263. Wolves come in and they kill them.

  264. They need a shepherd.

  265. A shepherd protects them.

  266. A shepherd leads them

  267. to good grass and clean water.

  268. They don't do that on their own.

  269. They wander around

  270. hoping to find good grass

  271. and clean water.

  272. Sheep are dependent on a shepherd.

  273. And this is how He views them.

  274. He has compassion.

  275. He has compassion.

  276. Another wonderful example of this

  277. is when He's coming into

  278. the city of Jerusalem.

  279. These are His people

  280. who are apostate.

  281. They have rejected

  282. what God has told them

  283. in the Old Testament

  284. of the coming of the Christ.

  285. They are about to reject Jesus Himself.

  286. It says that when He drew near

  287. and saw the city,

  288. He wept over it.

  289. A heartfelt compassion.

  290. A man who was God,

  291. who knew how it was

  292. that God was going to play out

  293. redemptive history in the world.

  294. And yet we see Him

  295. with the people

  296. who were coming to seek

  297. just what they could get from Him.

  298. Heal us.

  299. Do miraculous things for us.

  300. Give us food to eat.

  301. And He had compassion on them.

  302. He provides for their needs here.

  303. Their temporal,

  304. or if you prefer the word physical,

  305. He provides for their temporal needs.

  306. And Mark doesn't record this,

  307. but in other accounts,

  308. like in Luke 9, verse 11,

    Luke 9:11

  309. it says that He cured those

  310. who had need of healing.

  311. So He does some healing

  312. at this time as well.

  313. Matthew 6, verse 31-33,

    Matthew 6:31–33

  314. which precedes Matthew's account

  315. of the feeding of the 5,000

  316. in chapter 14.

  317. Jesus teaches this,

  318. which Wes alluded to earlier.

  319. Beginning verse 31,

  320. Do not be anxious,

  321. saying,

  322. What shall we eat?

  323. Or what shall we drink?

  324. Or what shall we wear?

  325. For the Gentiles,

  326. or those outside of the kingdom,

  327. seek after all these things,

  328. and your heavenly Father

  329. knows that you need them all.

  330. But seek first the kingdom of God

  331. and His righteousness,

  332. and all these things

  333. will be added to you.

  334. So He provides for their need.

  335. They're there stupidly

  336. wandering into the wilderness

  337. to follow Him without provision.

  338. And the apostles are smart

  339. in this regard.

  340. They see the time that's growing late.

  341. Very pragmatic.

  342. Send them away.

  343. Send them back to town.

  344. They've got to buy provision

  345. so that they can survive.

  346. And Jesus instead,

  347. in this incredibly miraculous way,

  348. in a creation from almost nothing,

  349. creates food to feed

  350. 20,000 to 25,000 people.

  351. And that is a staggering number of people.

  352. I don't know if you can even

  353. wrap your mind around.

  354. I can't think of a gathering we have

  355. that's 20,000 to 25,000 people.

  356. But do that in terms of

  357. wedding plate cost.

  358. Some of you are young, married,

  359. caterers come and cater.

  360. Let's say $10 a plate.

  361. $200,000 worth of food.

  362. That is a lot of food.

  363. This was an abundance of food.

  364. This was no small snack

  365. split up amongst people.

  366. They ate until they were full.

  367. And there was food left over.

  368. The food abounded,

  369. which is the point

  370. of the gathering of baskets.

  371. Jesus not only provided for their need,

  372. but He went above and beyond

  373. in His blessing

  374. as He created food for them.

  375. So He provided for their temporal,

  376. their physical needs.

  377. But more importantly than that,

  378. He was looking to meet

  379. their spiritual needs.

  380. And herein is a lesson.

  381. Those of us who are ministers

  382. of the gospel of God,

  383. and I don't mean in a special position

  384. like I hold,

  385. but those of us who are Christians,

  386. who are ministering

  387. the gospel of God,

  388. what we need to give to people

  389. is their real needs,

  390. not their felt needs.

  391. Some people think they need

  392. a certain,

  393. have something that they need met,

  394. but it's not necessarily

  395. what they really need.

  396. And what people really need

  397. is their hearts addressed.

  398. People really need

  399. the good news

  400. of the kingdom of God

  401. to get inside of them

  402. and work in them.

  403. And this is what we see Jesus doing.

  404. Verse 34,

  405. the second half.

  406. And He began teaching them

  407. many things.

  408. 20 to 25,000 people.

  409. He sits down on the shore with them

  410. and begins to teach them

  411. many things.

  412. What was His message?

  413. It was the good news

  414. of the kingdom of God.

  415. What are God's ways?

  416. How can you bring yourself

  417. under them?

  418. How can you have life

  419. and life everlasting?

  420. Now there's some other keys

  421. in this text

  422. for what He was doing

  423. and why we can know

  424. that He was looking to meet

  425. their spiritual needs.

  426. Because we see some typology

  427. play out here.

  428. Now let me explain quickly to you

  429. typology.

  430. This is a super brief summary.

  431. A type,

  432. if we talk about

  433. an Old Testament type

  434. of Christ,

  435. we're not saying

  436. a version of Christ.

  437. That's the way we use

  438. the word type

  439. in our modern English.

  440. We're not saying

  441. a version of Christ.

  442. We're talking about

  443. a character who prefigures

  444. or who supersedes Christ.

  445. To speak in the typology terms,

  446. the anti-type, right?

  447. Which is the greater thing.

  448. So it shows us a shadow

  449. of something that is to come.

  450. And they're all throughout

  451. the Old Testament.

  452. David is an example of that.

  453. Moses is an example of that.

  454. The ark.

  455. Noah's ark is an example of that.

  456. Jesus.

  457. The ark is a type of Christ

  458. that saves us

  459. from God's condemnation.

  460. These things run all throughout

  461. the Old Testament Scriptures.

  462. So,

  463. he does a couple of things

  464. that are interesting here

  465. that point to this.

  466. Right?

  467. So we know that Moses

  468. led God's people

  469. out of captivity

  470. as God's instrument

  471. leads them out of captivity.

  472. This great picture

  473. of God's people

  474. being led out of slavery

  475. to sin

  476. and into redemption

  477. and to living in his kingdom.

  478. And so,

  479. we see them gathering together.

  480. You can see this

  481. in Exodus chapter 18,

    Exodus 18:21

  482. verse 21,

  483. in 100s and 50s.

  484. And Moses

  485. presided over the people

  486. in this way.

  487. He divided them

  488. into thousands,

  489. into hundreds,

  490. into fifties,

  491. into tens.

  492. That was the way

  493. in which he governed

  494. over the people.

  495. Jesus does the very same thing.

  496. So,

  497. Jesus is saying to them,

  498. I am the better Moses

  499. as he divides them up

  500. to distribute food

  501. amongst them.

  502. He's also,

  503. we see David as a type.

  504. Ezekiel 34,

  505. 23 says,

  506. And I will set up over them

  507. one shepherd,

  508. my servant David,

  509. and he shall feed them.

  510. He shall feed them

  511. and be their shepherd.

  512. And herein we find,

  513. perhaps,

  514. this is my very best guess

  515. at this,

  516. perhaps the significance

  517. of verse 39.

  518. Why did Mark record

  519. that he had them sit down

  520. on the green grass?

  521. Is that important

  522. in any way

  523. to the story?

  524. I believe it is.

  525. I believe that Jesus

  526. had them sit down

  527. in these groups

  528. on the green grass

  529. to say to him,

  530. I am the good shepherd.

  531. I am the better David.

  532. I will lead you

  533. to the good grass.

  534. Maybe coming to your mind

  535. is Psalm 23,

    Psalms 23:1–3

  536. verse 1-3.

  537. The Lord is my shepherd.

  538. I shall not want.

  539. He makes me lie down

  540. in green pastures.

  541. He leads me

  542. beside still waters.

  543. He restores my soul.

  544. He leads me

  545. in paths of righteousness

  546. for his name's sake.

  547. I would hope

  548. that if we were there,

  549. being sat down

  550. in green grass,

  551. being fed,

  552. being put in these groups

  553. in this way,

  554. and that this man

  555. who claims he's

  556. the Son of God,

  557. that he is the Christ,

  558. is teaching the coming

  559. of the kingdom,

  560. we would remember

  561. Psalm 23, 1-3,

  562. this inspired text.

  563. They would have known

  564. these words.

  565. And we would go,

  566. ah, Jesus.

  567. Jesus is the Christ.

  568. Look at all the things

  569. he's doing.

  570. He's fulfilling prophecies.

  571. He is the greater Moses.

  572. He is the greater David.

  573. John 10,

    John 10:11–16

  574. verses 11-16.

  575. Famous.

  576. I hope you're familiar

  577. with this.

  578. I am the good shepherd.

  579. The good shepherd

  580. lays down his life

  581. for the sheep.

  582. He who is a hired hand

  583. and not a shepherd

  584. who does not own the sheep

  585. sees the wolf coming

  586. and leaves the sheep

  587. and flees.

  588. And the wolf snatches them

  589. and scatters them.

  590. He flees because

  591. he is a hired hand

  592. and cares nothing

  593. for the sheep.

  594. In relation to that,

  595. in contrast to that,

  596. verse 14,

  597. I am the good shepherd.

  598. I know my own

  599. and my own know me.

  600. Just as the Father

  601. knows me

  602. and I know the Father

  603. and I lay down my life

  604. for the sheep.

  605. And then praise God

  606. for verse 16.

  607. This is us.

  608. This includes

  609. those of us

  610. who are not of Jewish descent.

  611. And I have other sheep

  612. that are not of this fold.

  613. I must bring them also

  614. and they will listen

  615. to my voice

  616. so there will be

  617. one flock,

  618. one shepherd.

  619. Do you see what

  620. he's doing for them

  621. and he's painting

  622. this last picture

  623. in the land of Galilee

  624. before he moves off

  625. to the coast

  626. to call them

  627. to himself.

  628. We see a great

  629. gospel proclamation

  630. in this miracle.

  631. So what for us

  632. is the application

  633. then of this?

  634. It's certainly to believe.

  635. To be clear.

  636. It's certainly to believe

  637. that Jesus is in fact

  638. the Christ.

  639. To recognize

  640. that all of these miracles

  641. are led to point us

  642. to the validity

  643. of his message

  644. and we're going to

  645. address that later.

  646. But speaking specifically

  647. of his compassion

  648. we ought to emulate Christ

  649. and be compassionate.

  650. We ought to have

  651. the same type

  652. of heart in us.

  653. In fact,

  654. Colossians 3.12

  655. Paul says,

  656. put on then

  657. as God's chosen ones

  658. his sheep

  659. holy and beloved

  660. compassionate hearts.

  661. The objects of that compassion

  662. are the church

  663. and the world.

  664. Those who are yet

  665. to be part of the church.

  666. So we want to go

  667. and we want to share

  668. the gospel far and wide.

  669. We want to be compassionate.

  670. We want to remember

  671. where we once were

  672. the sin that we were

  673. delivered from

  674. the death that awaited us

  675. and have compassion

  676. on others

  677. who are awaiting

  678. the same thing.

  679. Do you have

  680. eternal mindset

  681. when you look

  682. at your neighbors

  683. and your classmates

  684. and your co-workers?

  685. Do you look at them

  686. and say if they don't

  687. have Christ

  688. their eternal doom

  689. is damnation?

  690. It'll be miserable

  691. forever

  692. and you break

  693. your heart break for them.

  694. I don't think

  695. that we

  696. including myself

  697. have hearts

  698. broken enough

  699. for the lost.

  700. We don't remember

  701. what we were delivered from.

  702. We don't actually

  703. understand the weight

  704. of our sin.

  705. We have a hard time

  706. wrapping our minds

  707. around what eternal

  708. separation from God

  709. would look like.

  710. We don't have

  711. compassionate hearts

  712. but we should.

  713. That should be

  714. the response

  715. to the compassion

  716. of Jesus Christ.

  717. Jesus finalized this

  718. for us on the cross.

  719. He went so much further

  720. than a little

  721. interruption

  722. in his rest.

  723. Christ.

  724. He died on our behalf.

  725. He died a miserable death.

  726. The worst death

  727. that's ever been created

  728. in the world

  729. he died.

  730. And above and beyond that

  731. he bore the wrath

  732. of God

  733. that was due

  734. our sin

  735. in himself

  736. that we might have life.

  737. That we might put on

  738. his righteousness.

  739. That when God

  740. looks at us

  741. he sees

  742. Christ

  743. beloved

  744. this should make us

  745. compassionate.

  746. This should warm

  747. our hearts

  748. to the purposes

  749. of Christ.

  750. we should love

  751. what Jesus loves

  752. because Jesus

  753. first loved us.

  754. You know what Jesus loves?

  755. He loves his church.

  756. He loves his sheep.

  757. He's gathering them in

  758. even now.

  759. So compassion.

  760. Secondly

  761. notice

  762. the need

  763. for communion.

  764. Now I'm not talking

  765. in this case

  766. of the church ordinance

  767. that we more commonly

  768. call the Lord's Supper here.

  769. I'm not talking about

  770. that type of communion.

  771. I'm talking about

  772. the communion

  773. the being with God.

  774. The charging

  775. that we get

  776. when we plug in

  777. to the source.

  778. This is such

  779. a wonderful picture

  780. in this text

  781. of Christ's

  782. co-existent humanity

  783. and deity.

  784. We see his need

  785. to step away

  786. from things.

  787. We see the human need

  788. for it too.

  789. Verse 31

  790. and then again

  791. in verse 45

  792. we see that

  793. Jesus is teaching

  794. the apostles

  795. to take

  796. times of

  797. restorative

  798. rest.

  799. Verse 31

  800. he says

  801. come away

  802. by yourselves

  803. a desolate place

  804. and rest a while.

  805. It's an imperative.

  806. It's a command.

  807. You've gone off.

  808. You've been doing works.

  809. You've been sharing

  810. the gospel.

  811. Now rest.

  812. You need it.

  813. You're human

  814. and you're frail

  815. and you will fall

  816. and fail

  817. at some point

  818. if you don't

  819. get

  820. restorative

  821. rest.

  822. And then after

  823. this account

  824. he goes

  825. and he's teaching

  826. the apostles

  827. get very involved

  828. in this process.

  829. They're handing out

  830. food.

  831. It would have

  832. taken hours

  833. I would imagine

  834. to hand out

  835. that much food

  836. and after that

  837. it says

  838. immediately

  839. he made his

  840. disciples

  841. get into a boat

  842. verse 45

  843. and go before him

  844. to the other side

  845. to Bethsaida

  846. while he dismissed

  847. the crowd.

  848. Now I think

  849. that this happened

  850. primarily because

  851. if you look

  852. in the other accounts

  853. like John's account

  854. it records

  855. that they were

  856. looking to take him

  857. by force

  858. to make him king.

  859. This group

  860. that had traveled

  861. out into the wilderness

  862. seemed to be

  863. rebels against Rome

  864. and they wanted

  865. to grab Jesus

  866. and make him king

  867. that he might lead them.

  868. He'd done miracles

  869. right?

  870. This must be the one

  871. that's going to lead us

  872. in triumph

  873. in a war

  874. against Rome.

  875. And so he sends

  876. the apostles away

  877. he gets them

  878. out of that scene

  879. he gets them gone

  880. right?

  881. He was the hubbub

  882. like he was the one

  883. attracting all the attention

  884. and they were able

  885. then to go

  886. and to rest

  887. so he sends them away.

  888. But what does he do

  889. when that happens?

  890. So they take this time

  891. of restorative rest

  892. and we must

  893. do the same

  894. but that's what we can learn

  895. as he's teaching them

  896. go and rest

  897. take some time

  898. with your family

  899. get some sleep

  900. college students

  901. it's very important

  902. I believe that

  903. Christian people

  904. ought to be

  905. the busiest people

  906. because we're working

  907. on the kingdom of God

  908. but take time

  909. for rest

  910. eight hours

  911. you know that

  912. most people need

  913. eight hours of sleep

  914. to be charged

  915. I think I average

  916. about six

  917. which is not healthy

  918. eight hours

  919. get some rest

  920. restore

  921. get away

  922. take vacations

  923. do those types

  924. of things

  925. but the greater lesson

  926. we learn is what

  927. Jesus goes and does

  928. he steps away

  929. on the mountain

  930. to pray

  931. so we see

  932. restorative rest

  933. we also see

  934. private prayer

  935. now you've got to

  936. keep in mind

  937. Jesus is constantly

  938. setting for us

  939. example

  940. but it's not that

  941. he didn't need it

  942. it's not that he

  943. didn't need the

  944. private prayer

  945. and he's just

  946. setting an example

  947. for us

  948. but he needed it

  949. as well

  950. he needed to

  951. abide with the

  952. father

  953. he was getting

  954. every directive

  955. from the father

  956. he needed to

  957. step away

  958. he needed to

  959. spend time

  960. in the scriptures

  961. and in prayer

  962. with God

  963. communing

  964. with him

  965. John Owen

  966. wrote a wonderful

  967. book called

  968. Communion with God

  969. and in it he said

  970. the love of God

  971. is like himself

  972. equal

  973. constant

  974. not capable

  975. of augmentation

  976. or diminution

  977. our love

  978. is like

  979. ourselves

  980. our love

  981. is like ourselves

  982. unequal

  983. increasing

  984. waning

  985. growing

  986. declining

  987. his like the sun

  988. always the same

  989. in its light

  990. though a cloud

  991. may sometimes

  992. interpose

  993. ours as the moon

  994. has its enlargements

  995. and straightenings

  996. if we're meant to love

  997. like Christ

  998. this is what we're

  999. called to do

  1000. we must spend

  1001. much time

  1002. alone

  1003. with God

1004. if we are to be

  1005. of any value

  1006. for anyone

  1007. in this world

  1008. we must first

  1009. value God

  1010. above everything

  1011. and everyone

  1012. in this world

1013. you know how you come to

  1014. value him

  1015. to make him your

  1016. treasure above all

  1017. else

  1018. you know him

  1019. I promise if you

  1020. know God

  1021. not just know things

  1022. about God

  1023. list of facts

  1024. about him

1025. but if you know him

  1026. if you spend time

  1027. abiding with him

  1028. if you are in

  1029. communion with him

  1030. in this way

  1031. and you know him

  1032. you will treasure him

  1033. above all else

  1034. here's the greatest

  1035. thing by very

  1036. definition

  1037. if he is God

  1038. he made all things

  1039. and therefore he is

  1040. better than all things

  1041. and not in a

  1042. slight way

1043. but if we put him

  1044. on the scale

  1045. it would tip

  1046. dramatically

  1047. right

  1048. there's no comparison

  1049. to the thing

1050. the things of the world

  1051. go strangely dim

  1052. in the light

  1053. of his glorious face

  1054. this is the picture

  1055. that we're getting there

  1056. we must commune

  1057. with God

  1058. to be good

  1059. for anything

  1060. in this world

1061. Jesus said it like this

  1062. in John 15 5

  1063. I am the vine

  1064. you are the branches

  1065. whoever abides in me

  1066. and I in him

  1067. he it is

  1068. that bears

  1069. much fruit

  1070. now hear this

  1071. just let this

  1072. resonate in your brain

  1073. for apart from me

  1074. you can do

  1075. nothing

  1076. apart from me

  1077. you can do

  1078. nothing

1079. so if we love our Christ

1080. for what he's done for us

1081. if we want to serve him

1082. if we want to be effective

  1083. in the kingdom

1084. we must abide with him

1085. this is the very first step

  1086. in the process

  1087. we must

1088. and if you find yourself

1089. in a place where you

  1090. struggle with that

1091. as I do quite often

  1092. I find myself constantly

1093. day in and day out

1094. doing the work of God

  1095. and everything I'm doing

  1096. is arranged around that

  1097. leading a church

  1098. and studying

  1099. and doing those things

  1100. and I find sometimes

  1101. that imperceptibly

  1102. I drift off course

  1103. and suddenly I'm just

  1104. academic

  1105. or I'm just

  1106. a businessman

  1107. planning and plotting

  1108. a course

  1109. right

1110. I step away from the fact

  1111. that I need

  1112. to soak

  1113. in who he is

  1114. right

1115. that when I do that

  1116. I can pour out

  1117. a sponge

  1118. I can soak up

  1119. and be squeezed out

  1120. and soak up

  1121. and be squeezed out

  1122. but I let myself

  1123. get squeezed out

  1124. and I don't soak again

  1125. right

  1126. I step away

  1127. from that

  1128. it's like a compass

  1129. many of you know

  1130. the way compasses

  1131. function

  1132. if you just turn

  1133. in a little degree

  1134. and walk ten feet

  1135. you're really in the

  1136. same place

  1137. it's imperceptible

  1138. you can't even notice

1139. that you're off the course

1140. but if you go a mile

  1141. that way

  1142. it's suddenly you're

  1143. getting further

  1144. and further

  1145. and further away

  1146. from where you need

  1147. to be

  1148. we must

  1149. come back

  1150. to private prayer

  1151. we must

  1152. spend time

  1153. knowing

  1154. God

  1155. if you find yourself

  1156. in that place

  1157. there's some

  1158. there's some great

  1159. rest for us

  1160. there's some great

  1161. promises

  1162. psalm 46

    Psalms 46:10

  1163. verse 10

  1164. God says

  1165. be still

  1166. and know

  1167. that I

  1168. am God

  1169. be still

  1170. and know

  1171. that I

  1172. am God

  1173. I will be

  1174. exalted

  1175. among the nations

  1176. I will

  1177. be exalted

  1178. in the earth

  1179. this is a great

  1180. comfort to my soul

  1181. my great desire

  1182. is that God

  1183. be exalted

  1184. among the nations

  1185. my great desire

  1186. is that God

  1187. be exalted

  1188. in this entire world

  1189. and then I go

  1190. what I gotta do

  1191. to get that done

  1192. what is my part

  1193. to play in that

1194. what do I have to do

  1195. and I can become

  1196. exhausted because of that

1197. and he says to me

  1198. be still

  1199. you're not God

  1200. I am

1201. be a tool in my hand

  1202. I've got it all

  1203. under control

  1204. Psalm 127

  1205. Song of Solomon

  1206. verse 1 and 2

  1207. unless the Lord

  1208. builds the house

  1209. those who build it

  1210. labor in vain

  1211. unless the Lord

  1212. watches over the city

  1213. the watchman

  1214. stays awake

  1215. in vain

  1216. it is in vain

1217. that you rise up early

1218. and go late to rest

  1219. eating the bread

  1220. of anxious toil

  1221. for he gives

  1222. to his beloved

  1223. sleep

  1224. and the teaching

  1225. here is not

  1226. sleep in

  1227. right

1228. and go to bed early

  1229. it's not the teaching

  1230. it's all he's trying to say

  1231. get up early

  1232. there's much value

  1233. in getting up early

1234. but when you do so

  1235. because you know

1236. you've got to do it

1237. you know you've got to accomplish

  1238. you're anxious

  1239. about the work

  1240. that's ahead of you

  1241. he says

  1242. no sleep

  1243. sleep and rest

  1244. the Lord

  1245. is building a house

  1246. the Lord

  1247. is keeping watch

  1248. over the city

1249. so we need these things

  1250. we need private prayer

  1251. we need restorative rest

  1252. and that's the application

  1253. for us

1254. as we labor for the kingdom

  1255. we must also rest

1256. in the goodness of God

1257. in the face of Jesus Christ

  1258. that's how you charge

  1259. for spiritual work

  1260. you remember

  1261. the goodness

  1262. of the gospel

  1263. Matthew chapter 11

    Matthew 11 chapter mention

  1264. 28-30

  1265. Jesus says

  1266. come to me

  1267. all you who labor

  1268. and are heavy laden

1269. and I will give you

  1270. rest

1271. take my yoke upon you

  1272. and learn from me

  1273. for I am gentle

  1274. and lowly in heart

1275. and you will find rest

  1276. for your souls

1277. for my yoke is easy

  1278. and my burden

  1279. is light

1280. how do we do this

  1281. practically

1282. how do we do this

  1283. spend time

  1284. in the inerrant

  1285. sufficient

  1286. powerful word of God

  1287. right

1288. this has been given to us

  1289. that we might know

  1290. God

  1291. stop neglecting it

1292. it is a gift to us

  1293. it is a grace

  1294. you have

  1295. copies upon copies

  1296. on your shelf

  1297. I was at a conference

  1298. this week

  1299. where a group

1300. in the third world country

  1301. they had a program

  1302. where when you went

  1303. to the bookstore

1304. you could buy a bible

  1305. and then take it

1306. and go stick it on a pallet

1307. and they were going to

  1308. pack them up

  1309. and send them

  1310. because the pastors

  1311. didn't have bibles

  1312. in this country

  1313. right

  1314. we were worried about

1315. the people at this point

1316. the members of the church

  1317. it was the pastors

1318. that were having a hard time

  1319. accessing bibles

  1320. in this country

  1321. we have got them

  1322. in abundance

  1323. we've got copies

  1324. upon copies

  1325. upon copies

1326. you can access the internet

  1327. and get any translation

  1328. that you want

  1329. with helpful study notes

  1330. right

  1331. stop neglecting it

  1332. it is a gift

  1333. to you

  1334. and pray

  1335. respond

1336. to what God is saying

1337. as he speaks to you

  1338. speak back to him

  1339. God is available

  1340. and wants

  1341. a relationship with you

  1342. draw near to him

  1343. and he will draw

  1344. near to you

  1345. in A.T. Pearson's biography

  1346. of George Mueller

1347. called George Mueller of Bristol

1348. which I would really commend to you

  1349. it's a wonderful read

  1350. he wrote

1351. the most intimate knowledge of God

  1352. it's possible

  1353. on one condition

1354. that we search his holy scriptures

  1355. prayerfully

  1356. and habitually

  1357. and translate

  1358. what we there find

  1359. into obedience

  1360. there are promises

  1361. a wonderful promise

  1362. that comes

1363. if we will devote ourselves

  1364. to this

1365. the study of the scripture

  1366. prayerfully

  1367. habitually

  1368. and be obedient

  1369. in this

  1370. there's a promise

1371. that's found in both testaments

  1372. Psalm 1-3

  1373. after he speaks of

  1374. the man who delights

1375. in the law of the Lord

  1376. it says

1377. in all that he does

  1378. he prospers

  1379. in James 1-25

  1380. it says

1381. but the one who looks

  1382. into the perfect law

  1383. the law of liberty

  1384. and perseveres

  1385. is obedient

  1386. to the end

  1387. being no hearer

  1388. who forgets

  1389. but a doer

  1390. who acts

  1391. he will be blessed

  1392. in his doing

1393. do you want the work

  1394. that you do

1395. for the kingdom of God

  1396. to be blessed

  1397. to be fruitful

  1398. to be beneficial

  1399. if you love Jesus

  1400. you'll want that

1401. if you love Jesus rightly

  1402. you will want this

  1403. to be the case

1404. this is what we must do

1405. this is what we must do

1406. and it is a joy

  1407. to do it

1408. so we see the compassion

  1409. of Christ

  1410. we see

  1411. our great need

  1412. for communion

  1413. with God

  1414. but we also see

  1415. condemnation

  1416. thirdly

  1417. we also see

  1418. condemnation

  1419. there's this

  1420. massive group of people

1421. and we are seeing this

  1422. time and time

  1423. again

1424. in the gospel of Mark

  1425. this great throng

  1426. that surrounds Jesus

  1427. and they're coming

  1428. to him

  1429. for what Jesus

  1430. can do for them

  1431. in this world

  1432. they want healing

  1433. they want to show

  1434. they want to see

  1435. some new miracle

  1436. some display

  1437. of power

1438. we would be the same way

1439. we hear that some guys

  1440. in Dahlonega

  1441. healing sick people

  1442. like people who can't

  1443. walk or walking

1444. we'd want to go see

  1445. that kind of thing

  1446. and they never

  1447. hear the message

  1448. they never hear

  1449. what he's actually

  1450. trying to say

  1451. and we know this

  1452. because after Jesus

  1453. is crucified

  1454. and resurrected

1455. we see a very small

  1456. number of disciples

  1457. still gathered

1458. 150 in the upper room

  1459. I'm sure that there

  1460. were more

  1461. there were probably

  1462. some in the Gentile

  1463. region

  1464. but we don't see

  1465. much record of this

  1466. where did they go

  1467. you go from

  1468. 20,000 to 150

  1469. it's a fraction

  1470. of that

  1471. were these disciples

  1472. were these true

  1473. followers of Jesus Christ

  1474. no

1475. they were coming to him

1476. for what they could gain

  1477. they wanted

  1478. the promises

  1479. the benefits

  1480. without the obedience

  1481. of it

1482. this is a dangerous thing

1483. and this is what speaks

  1484. to our church

  1485. in a great way

  1486. do you find yourself

  1487. in that position

1488. you come for the benefit

  1489. what you think Christ

  1490. can accomplish

  1491. on your behalf

  1492. but you're not willing

  1493. to be obedient

  1494. you're not willing

  1495. to see

1496. that the kingdom of God

  1497. is not

  1498. not on a scale

  1499. but it's a difference

1500. you become a new person

  1501. right

  1502. you no longer live

  1503. in the realm

  1504. of this world

  1505. serving the father

  1506. of that

  1507. the devil

  1508. of lies

  1509. you now serve

  1510. Jesus Christ

  1511. and everything

  1512. in your life

1513. bows to who he is

  1514. I fear that that's

  1515. the case

  1516. in many

  1517. many

  1518. many churches

  1519. and possibly

  1520. in ours

  1521. look

  1522. further down

  1523. we see this

  1524. this massive group

  1525. of people

  1526. we know that

  1527. not all of them

  1528. are true disciples

  1529. of Christ

  1530. but look even

  1531. at the apostles

  1532. down in

  1533. verse 52

  1534. verse 51

  1535. and they were

  1536. utterly astounded

  1537. they were

  1538. utterly astounded

  1539. at what had

  1540. happened

  1541. he had walked

  1542. on water

  1543. he had gotten

  1544. in the boat

  1545. they had already

  1546. seen so many

  1547. miracles

  1548. they were

  1549. utterly astounded

  1550. !

  1551. for they did

  1552. not understand

  1553. about the

  1554. loaves

  1555. but their

  1556. hearts

  1557. were hardened

  1558. and that phrase

  1559. they did not

  1560. understand about

  1561. the loaves

  1562. really

  1563. vexed my

  1564. mind

  1565. these last

  1566. couple of

  1567. weeks

  1568. what?

  1569. I believe

  1570. that Mark

  1571. was inspired

  1572. by the Holy

  1573. Spirit

  1574. to write

  1575. these words

  1576. in this

  1577. way

  1578. the original

  1579. text

  1580. means that

  1581. I looked

  1582. it up

  1583. that's

  1584. what it

  1585. means

  1586. they did

  1587. not

  1588. understand

  1589. about

  1590. the loaves

  1591. so here's

  1592. this interjection

  1593. for him

  1594. to help

  1595. us understand

  1596. what was

  1597. going on

  1598. why did

  1599. they not

  1600. understand

  1601. and I will

  1602. tell you

  1603. that the

  1604. question

  1605. in verse

  1606. 51

  1607. of

  1608. chapter 4

  1609. they said

  1610. after he

  1611. calmed the

  1612. storm

  1613. on the

  1614. sea of

  1615. Galilee

  1616. who then

  1617. is this

  1618. that even

  1619. the wind

  1620. and the

  1621. sea

  1622. obey him

  1623. they were

  1624. still

  1625. questioning

  1626. who

  1627. Jesus

  1628. was

  1629. they've

  1630. already

  1631. been sent

  1632. down

  1633. on a

  1634. mission

  1635. trip

  1636. and they

  1637. still don't

  1638. have it

  1639. clear in

  1640. their minds

  1641. who

  1642. Jesus

  1643. is

  1644. Jesus

  1645. is

  1646. the

  1647. Christ

  1648. and they

  1649. didn't

  1650. quite

  1651. get it

  1652. at this

  1653. point

  1654. so I

  1655. want you

  1656. to go

  1657. with me

  1658. we're

  1659. going to

  1660. do a

  1661. little

  1662. work

  1663. in John

    John 6 chapter mention

  1664. chapter 6

  1665. starting

  1666. in verse

  1667. 22

  1668. I want you

  1669. to turn

  1670. with me

  1671. there

  1672. John

    John 6:22

  1673. chapter 6

  1674. verse 22

  1675. this is

  1676. John's

  1677. account

  1678. what followed

  1679. right after

  1680. the same

  1681. story

  1682. right

  1683. so we're

  1684. looking

  1685. if you

  1686. look at

  1687. chapter 6

  1688. Jesus

  1689. beats

  1690. 5,000

  1691. Jesus

  1692. walks on

  1693. water

  1694. and the

  1695. beginning

  1696. of verse

  1697. 22

  1698. here's

  1699. kind of

  1700. the story

  1701. following

  1702. this

  1703. okay

  1704. so verse

  1705. 22

  1706. on the

  1707. next day

  1708. the crowd

  1709. that remained

  1710. on the

  1711. other side

  1712. of the sea

  1713. saw that

  1714. there had

  1715. been

  1716. only one

  1717. boat

  1718. there

  1719. and that

  1720. Jesus

  1721. had not

  1722. entered

  1723. the boat

  1724. with his

  1725. disciples

  1726. but that

  1727. his disciples

  1728. had gone

  1729. away

  1730. alone

  1731. other boats

  1732. from Niberius

  1733. came near

  1734. the place

  1735. where they

  1736. had eaten

  1737. the bread

  1738. after the

  1739. Lord had

  1740. given

  1741. thanks

  1742. so when

  1743. the crowd

  1744. saw that

  1745. Jesus

  1746. was not

  1747. there

  1748. nor

  1749. his

  1750. disciples

  1751. they

  1752. themselves

  1753. got into

  1754. the boats

  1755. and went

  1756. to Capernaum

  1757. seeking

  1758. Jesus

  1759. so

  1760. there was

  1761. only one

  1762. boat

  1763. and they

  1764. knew

  1765. Jesus

  1766. didn't

  1767. get in

  1768. it

  1769. he

  1770. dismissed

  1771. the

  1772. apostles

  1773. while he

  1774. was

  1775. dismissing

  1776. the crowd

  1777. they got

  1778. in

  1779. they took

  1780. off

  1781. they knew

  1782. he didn't

  1783. get in

  1784. that boat

  1785. but then

  1786. where did

  1787. he go

  1788. so some

  1789. other boats

  1790. come by

  1791. and they

  1792. get in

  1793. and they

  1794. follow him

  1795. over to

  1796. Capernaum

  1797. to look

  1798. for him

  1799. verse 25

  1800. when they

  1801. found him

  1802. on the

  1803. other side

  1804. of the

  1805. sea

  1806. they said

  1807. to him

  1808. rabbi

  1809. when did

  1810. you come

  1811. here

  1812. Jesus

  1813. answered

  1814. them

  1815. truly

  1816. truly

  1817. I say

  1818. to you

  1819. you are

  1820. seeking

  1821. me

  1822. here we

  1823. go

  1824. not

  1825. because

  1826. you saw

  1827. signs

  1828. but because

  1829. you ate

  1830. your fill

  1831. of the

  1832. loaves

  1833. do not

  1834. labor

  1835. for the

  1836. food

  1837. that

  1838. perishes

  1839. but for

  1840. the food

  1841. that

  1842. endures

  1843. to eternal

  1844. life

  1845. which the

  1846. son of

  1847. man

  1848. will give

  1849. to you

  1850. for on

  1851. him

  1852. God

  1853. the

  1854. father

  1855. has

  1856. set

  1857. his

  1858. seal

  1859. then

  1860. they

  1861. said

  1862. to

  1863. him

  1864. and

  1865. this

  1866. sounds

  1867. like a

  1868. really

  1869. good

  1870. honest

  1871. question

  1872. what

  1873. must

  1874. we

  1875. do

  1876. to

  1877. be

  1878. doing

  1879. the

  1880. works

  1881. of

  1882. God

  1883. what

  1884. must

  1885. you

  1886. do

  1887. to

  1888. be

  1889. doing

  1890. the

  1891. works

  1892. of

  1893. God

  1894. but

  1895. look

  1896. at

  1897. Jesus'

  1898. response

  1899. as he

  1900. knows

  1901. what's

  1902. going

  1903. on

  1904. in

  1905. their

  1906. hearts

  1907. Jesus

  1908. answered

  1909. them

  1910. this

  1911. is

  1912. the

  1913. work

  1914. of

  1915. God

  1916. that

  1917. you

  1918. believe

  1919. in

  1920. him

  1921. and

  1922. whom

  1923. he

  1924. has

  1925. sent

  1926. so

  1927. there's

  1928. the

  1929. work

  1930. of

  1931. God

  1932. that

  1933. we

  1934. believe

  1935. that

  1936. Jesus

  1937. is

  1938. the

  1939. Christ

  1940. this

  1941. is

  1942. not

  1943. what

  1944. they

  1945. wanted

  1946. was

  1947. to

  1948. be

  1949. able

  1950. to

  1951. do

  1952. !

  1953. what

  1954. must

  1955. we

  1956. do

  1957. to

  1958. also

  1959. turn

  1960. loaves

  1961. into

  1962. more

  1963. and

  1964. more

  1965. loaves

  1966. to

  1967. eat

  1968. our

  1969. fill

  1970. so

  1971. they

  1972. said

  1973. to

  1974. him

  1975. then

  1976. what

  1977. sign

  1978. do

  1979. you

  1980. do

  1981. that

  1982. we

  1983. may

  1984. see

  1985. and

  1986. believe

  1987. you

  1988. what

  1989. work

  1990. do

  1991. you

  1992. perform

  1993. our

  1994. fathers

  1995. ate

  1996. the

  1997. manna

  1998. in

  1999. the

  2000. wilderness

  2001. as

  2002. it

  2003. is

  2004. written

  2005. he

  2006. gave

  2007. them

  2008. bread

  2009. from

  2010. heaven

  2011. to

  2012. eat

  2013. so

  2014. they

  2015. quote

  2016. some

  2017. old

  2018. testament

  2019. scripture

  2020. right

  2021. the

  2022. sign

  2023. of

  2024. Moses

  2025. was

  2026. that

  2027. God

  2028. gave

  2029. manna

  2030. for

  2031. them

  2032. to

  2033. eat

  2034. what

  2035. sign

  2036. do

  2037. you

  2038. do

  2039. as

  2040. if

  2041. what

  2042. he

  2043. had

  2044. done

  2045. the day

  2046. before

  2047. wasn't

  2048. enough

  2049. Jesus

  2050. then

  2051. said

  2052. to

  2053. them

  2054. truly

  2055. I

  2056. say

  2057. to

  2058. you

  2059. it

  2060. was

  2061. not

  2062. Moses

  2063. !

  2064. who

  2065. gave

  2066. you

  2067. the

  2068. bread

  2069. from

  2070. heaven

  2071. but

  2072. my

  2073. father

  2074. gives

  2075. you

  2076. the

  2077. true

  2078. bread

  2079. from

  2080. heaven

  2081. for

  2082. the

  2083. bread

  2084. of

  2085. God

  2086. is

  2087. he

  2088. who

  2089. comes

  2090. down

  2091. from

  2092. heaven

  2093. and

  2094. gives

  2095. life

  2096. to

  2097. the

  2098. world

  2099. they

  2100. said

  2101. to

  2102. him

  2103. sir

  2104. give

  2105. us

  2106. this

  2107. bread

  2108. always

  2109. they

  2110. still

  2111. had

  2112. no

  2113. idea

  2114. what

  2115. he

  2116. was

  2117. talking

  2118. about

  2119. right

  2120. now

  2121. they're

  2122. saying

  2123. please

  2124. this

  2125. manna

  2126. that

  2127. came

  2128. down

  2129. and

  2130. constantly

  2131. fed

  2132. and

  2133. provided

  2134. for

  2135. the

  2136. people

  2137. of

  2138. God

  2139. give

  2140. us

  2141. bread

  2142. constantly

  2143. right

  2144. what

  2145. a

  2146. great

  2147. world

  2148. that

  2149. would

  2150. be

  2151. if

  2152. food

  2153. just

  2154. dropped

  2155. in

  2156. our

  2157. laps

  2158. in

  2159. that

  2160. way

  2161. Jesus

  2162. said

  2163. to

  2164. them

  2165. I

  2166. am

  2167. the

  2168. bread

  2169. of

  2170. life

  2171. whoever

  2172. comes

  2173. to

  2174. me

  2175. shall

  2176. not

  2177. hunger

  2178. and

  2179. whoever

  2180. believes

  2181. in

  2182. me

  2183. shall

  2184. never

  2185. thirst

  2186. but

  2187. I

  2188. said

  2189. to

  2190. you

  2191. that

  2192. you

  2193. have

  2194. seen

  2195. me

  2196. and

  2197. yet

  2198. do

  2199. not

  2200. believe

  2201. all

  2202. that

  2203. the

  2204. !

  2205. Father

  2206. gives

  2207. me

  2208. will

  2209. come

  2210. to

  2211. me

  2212. what a

  2213. beautiful

  2214. gospel

  2215. coming

  2216. kingdom

  2217. of

  2218. God

  2219. presentation

  2220. that is

  2221. here's

  2222. the

  2223. response

  2224. so

  2225. the

  2226. Jews

  2227. grumbled

  2228. about

  2229. him

  2230. because

  2231. he

  2232. said

  2233. I

  2234. am

  2235. the

  2236. bread

  2237. that

  2238. came

  2239. down

  2240. from

  2241. heaven

  2242. right

  2243. there's

  2244. another

  2245. type

  2246. for

  2247. you

  2248. the

  2249. manna

  2250. is

  2251. a

  2252. type

  2253. of

  2254. Christ

  2255. they

  2256. said

  2257. is

  2258. not

  2259. this

  2260. Jesus

  2261. the

  2262. son

  2263. of

  2264. Joseph

  2265. whose

  2266. father

  2267. and

  2268. mother

  2269. we

  2270. know

  2271. how

  2272. does

  2273. he

  2274. now

  2275. say

  2276. I

  2277. have

  2278. come

  2279. down

  2280. from

  2281. heaven

  2282. Jesus

  2283. answered

  2284. them

  2285. do

  2286. not

  2287. grumble

  2288. among

  2289. yourselves

  2290. no

  2291. one

  2292. can

  2293. come

  2294. to

  2295. me

  2296. unless

  2297. the

  2298. father

  2299. who

  2300. sent

  2301. me

  2302. draws

  2303. him

  2304. and

  2305. I

  2306. will

  2307. raise

  2308. him

  2309. up

  2310. on

  2311. the

  2312. last

  2313. day

  2314. it

  2315. is

  2316. written

  2317. in

  2318. the

  2319. prophets

  2320. and

  2321. they

  2322. will

  2323. all

  2324. be

  2325. taught

  2326. by

  2327. God

  2328. everyone

  2329. who

  2330. has

  2331. heard

  2332. and

  2333. learned

  2334. from

  2335. the

  2336. father

  2337. comes

  2338. to

  2339. me

  2340. not

  2341. that

  2342. anyone

  2343. has

  2344. seen

  2345. the

  2346. father

  2347. except

  2348. he

  2349. who

  2350. is

  2351. from

  2352. God

  2353. he

  2354. has

  2355. seen

  2356. the

  2357. father

  2358. truly

  2359. truly

  2360. I

  2361. say

  2362. to

  2363. you

  2364. whoever

  2365. believes

  2366. has

  2367. eternal

  2368. life

  2369. I

  2370. am

  2371. the

  2372. bread

  2373. of

  2374. life

  2375. your

  2376. fathers

  2377. ate

  2378. the

  2379. man

  2380. in

  2381. the

  2382. wilderness

  2383. and

  2384. they

  2385. died

  2386. this

  2387. is

  2388. the

  2389. bread

  2390. that

  2391. come

  2392. down

  2393. from

  2394. heaven

  2395. so

  2396. that

  2397. is

  2398. my

  2399. flesh

  2400. already

  2401. begins

  2402. to

  2403. speak

  2404. of

  2405. his

  2406. death

  2407. now

  2408. do

  2409. you

  2410. see

  2411. now

  2412. why

  2413. the

  2414. apostles

  2415. mark

  2416. records

  2417. it

  2418. because

  2419. they

  2420. didn't

  2421. understand

  2422. the

  2423. loaves

  2424. because

  2425. this

  2426. is

  2427. what

  2428. Jesus

  2429. was

  2430. preaching

  2431. to

  2432. them

  2433. giving

  2434. them

  2435. sustenance

  2436. of

  2437. the

  2438. bread

  2439. is

  2440. that

  2441. he

  2442. was

  2443. teaching

  2444. to

  2445. them

  2446. I

  2447. am

  2448. the

  2449. bread

  2450. of

  2451. life

  2452. verse

  2453. 52

  2454. the

  2455. Jews

  2456. then

  2457. disputed

  2458. amongst

  2459. !

  2460. themselves

  2461. saying

  2462. how

  2463. can

  2464. this

  2465. man

  2466. !

  2467. give

  2468. flesh

  2469. to

  2470. eat

  2471. so

  2472. Jesus

  2473. said

  2474. to

  2475. them

  2476. truly

  2477. truly

  2478. I

  2479. say

  2480. to

  2481. you

  2482. which

  2483. is

  2484. a

  2485. way

  2486. of

  2487. saying

  2488. no

  2489. seriously

  2490. unless

  2491. you

  2492. eat

  2493. the

  2494. flesh

  2495. of

  2496. the

  2497. son

  2498. of

  2499. man

  2500. and

  2501. drink

  2502. his

  2503. blood

  2504. you

  2505. have

  2506. no

  2507. life

  2508. in

  2509. you

  2510. whoever

  2511. feeds

  2512. on

  2513. my

  2514. flesh

  2515. and

  2516. drinks

  2517. my

  2518. blood

  2519. has

  2520. eternal

  2521. life

  2522. and

  2523. I

  2524. will

  2525. raise

  2526. him

  2527. up

  2528. on

  2529. the

  2530. last

  2531. day

  2532. for

  2533. my

  2534. flesh

  2535. is

  2536. true

  2537. food

  2538. and

  2539. my

  2540. blood

  2541. whoever

  2542. feeds

  2543. on

  2544. me

  2545. he

  2546. also

  2547. will

  2548. live

  2549. because

  2550. of

  2551. me

  2552. this

  2553. is

  2554. the

  2555. bread

  2556. that

  2557. came

  2558. down

  2559. from

  2560. heaven

  2561. not

  2562. like

  2563. the

  2564. bread

  2565. the

  2566. fathers

  2567. ate

  2568. and

  2569. died

  2570. whoever

  2571. feeds

  2572. on

  2573. this

  2574. bread

  2575. will

  2576. live

  2577. forever

  2578. Jesus

  2579. said

  2580. these

  2581. things

  2582. in

  2583. the

  2584. synagogue

  2585. as

  2586. he

  2587. taught

  2588. at

  2589. Capernaum

  2590. when

  2591. many

  2592. of his

  2593. disciples

  2594. heard

  2595. it

  2596. they

  2597. said

  2598. this

  2599. is

  2600. a

  2601. hard

  2602. saying

  2603. who

  2604. can

  2605. listen

  2606. to

  2607. it

  2608. but

  2609. Jesus

  2610. knowing

  2611. in

  2612. himself

  2613. the

  2614. disciples

  2615. were

  2616. grumbling

  2617. about

  2618. this

  2619. said

  2620. to

  2621. them

  2622. do

  2623. you

  2624. take

  2625. offense

  2626. at

  2627. this

  2628. then

  2629. what

  2630. if

  2631. you

  2632. were

  2633. to

  2634. see

  2635. the

  2636. son

  2637. of

  2638. man

  2639. ascending

  2640. to

  2641. where

  2642. he

  2643. was

  2644. before

  2645. it

  2646. is

  2647. the

  2648. spirit

  2649. who

  2650. gives

  2651. life

  2652. the

  2653. flesh

  2654. is

  2655. no

  2656. help

  2657. at

  2658. all

  2659. the

  2660. words

  2661. that

  2662. I

  2663. have

  2664. spoken

  2665. to

  2666. you

  2667. are

  2668. spirit

  2669. and

  2670. life

  2671. but

  2672. there

  2673. are

  2674. some

  2675. of

  2676. you

  2677. who

  2678. do

  2679. not

  2680. believe

  2681. for

  2682. Jesus

  2683. knew

  2684. from

  2685. the

  2686. beginning

  2687. those

  2688. were

  2689. who

  2690. did

  2691. not

  2692. believe

  2693. and

  2694. who

  2695. it

  2696. was

  2697. who

  2698. would

  2699. betray

  2700. him

  2701. and

  2702. he

  2703. said

  2704. this

  2705. is

  2706. why

  2707. I

  2708. told

  2709. you

  2710. that

  2711. no

  2712. one

  2713. can

  2714. come

  2715. to

  2716. me

  2717. unless

  2718. it

  2719. is

  2720. granted

  2721. him

  2722. by

  2723. the

  2724. father

  2725. so

  2726. here

  2727. we

  2728. have

  2729. kind

  2730. of

  2731. centric

  3024. going

  3025. on

  3026. there

  3027. and

  3028. sometime

  3029. in

  3030. between

  3031. they're

  3032. able to

  3071. you

  3072. are

  3073. the

  3077. God

  3078. you

  3079. are

  3080. the

  3081. Christ

  3082. and here

  3083. we see

  3084. that

  3085. great

  3086. realization

  3087. of that

  3088. happening

  3089. here

  3090. so we

  3091. see

  3092. in

  3093. our

  3094. text

  3095. you

  3096. can

  3097. turn

  3098. back

  3099. there

  3100. if

  3101. you'd

  3102. like

  3103. we

  3104. see

  3105. these

  3106. two

  3107. condemnation

  3108. people

  3109. who

  3110. do

  3111. not

  3113. Jesus

  3114. is

  3115. the

  3119. that

  3120. is

  3121. the

  3122. guilt

  3123. that

  3124. gets

  3125. placed

  3126. on

  3127. them

  3128. the

  3130. of

  3131. their

  3132. sin

  3133. has

  3134. bought

  3135. this

  3136. penalty

  3137. and

  3138. they

  3139. don't

  3140. believe

  3141. and

  3142. they're

  3143. damned

  3144. forever

  3145. what's

  3146. the

  3147. application

  3148. there?

  3149. what's

  3150. the

  3151. application?

  3152. believe

  3153. that's

  3154. the

  3155. application

  3156. believe

  3157. don't

  3158. be

  3159. found

  3160. in

  3161. that

  3162. number

  3163. if

  3164. you

  3165. don't

  3167. that

  3168. Jesus

  3169. is

  3170. the

  3171. Christ

  3172. and

  3173. that

  3175. all

  3176. things

  3177. of

  3178. the

  3179. gospel

  3180. if

  3181. you

  3182. don't

  3183. get

  3184. the

  3185. fact

  3186. that

  3187. your

  3188. sin

  3189. is

  3190. separated

  3191. from

  3192. you

  3193. God

  3194. eternally

  3195. and

  3196. that

  3197. Jesus

  3198. is

  3199. the

  3201. back

  3202. into

  3203. relation

  3204. with

  3205. him

  3206. to

  3208. who

  3209. we

  3217. to

  3218. have

  3219. satisfaction

  3220. to

  3221. have

  3222. peace

  3223. to

  3224. be

  3225. able

  3226. !

  3227. to

  3228. worship

  3229. God

  3230. as

  3231. we

  3232. were

  3233. created

  3234. !

  3235. for

  3236. you

  3237. are

  3238. more

  3239. human

  3240. more

  3241. as

  3242. you

  3243. were

  3244. meant

  3247. when

  3248. you

  3263. Jesus

  3264. said

  3265. this

  3266. we

  3267. see

  3268. an

  3270. picture

  3271. here

  3272. of

  3273. people

  3274. that

  3275. witnessed

  3276. incredible

  3277. things

  3278. in

  3279. person

  3280. I

  3281. would

  3282. love

  3283. to

  3284. be

  3285. able

  3286. to

  3287. jump

  3288. in

  3289. a

  3290. time

  3291. machine

  3292. and

  3293. go

  3294. and

  3295. get

  3296. to

  3301. witness

  3302. all

  3303. of

  3310. we
