  1. Is to basically go from Genesis to Revelation in an overview.

  2. ! And my hope is that we can really see the magnificence of God's creation.

  3. and what His plan of redemption is, and really how we fit into that.

  4. So, to begin with, I'd like to read out of Colossians 1, starting in verse 15.

  5. And read that.

  6. It says, He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation.

  7. For everything was created by Him in heaven on earth, the visible and the invisible,

  8. whether thrones or dominions, or rulers or authorities.

  9. All things have been created through Him and for Him.

  10. He is before all things, and by Him all things hold together.

  11. Lord, I pray that today, as we study Your Word,

  12. Lord, that we would gain a better understanding of who You are,

  13. that we may glimpse at how big and how holy You are.

  14. Thank You for Your Word, and I pray that today, You would speak through Your Word,

  15. and speak through me.

  16. Lord, may You open ears and hearts, and open my mouth to speak.

  17. I pray this in Your name. Amen.

  18. As we begin in Genesis chapter 1,

    Genesis 1 chapter mention

  19. it doesn't take long to get to the first verse.

  20. It says,

  21. In the beginning, God.

  22. And that is the foundation from which we have to start,

  23. is that before time, before creation,

  24. that God existed,

  25. He is infinite,

  26. He is holy,

  27. and that He has created us,

  28. therefore we've started as His creation.

  29. We have to start from that point,

  30. that He is the Creator,

  31. and that we are creation.

  32. Let's see.

  33. God created time,

  34. and space,

  35. and matter,

  36. and He created the earth,

  37. and humans.

  38. And so when we see God creating man,

  39. it says that He created man in His own image.

  40. And there's a lot packed into that,

  41. because what that means is that man is spiritual.

  42. Man has a spirit,

  43. and is able to interact,

  44. and to have a relationship with God.

  45. As we look in the beginning in Genesis,

  46. that Adam was placed into the Garden of Eden,

  47. that God was physically with Adam,

  48. walking in the garden with him,

  49. that God gave him a mandate.

  50. He gave him the mandate to care for the garden,

  51. and to take care of it,

  52. and to work in it.

  53. He also told Adam to name the animals.

  54. And so we see that there's this relationship

  55. between God and Adam.

  56. It's unhindered.

  57. There's joy there.

  58. There's peace on the earth.

  59. And that's where we started.

  60. That's what the creation was created as.

  61. It is holy,

  62. and full of joy.

  63. There's no sadness,

  64. no death.

  65. And so that was God's vision of creation,

  66. that it was good.

  67. It was very good.

  68. And so then we move into Genesis chapter 3,

    Genesis 3 chapter mention

  69. and we see that sin enters the world.

  70. And sin,

  71. when Adam sins,

  72. it is his taking God's authority

  73. that God gave to him,

  74. and he rejects that authority,

  75. and makes himself his own master.

  76. When we look in Genesis chapter 3,

    Genesis 3 chapter mention

  77. it says that the serpent came

  78. and tempted Eve,

  79. and then Eve gave to Adam,

  80. and Adam disobeyed the direct command of God,

  81. and it separated them.

  82. When God came,

  83. Adam fled from God's sight.

  84. There was a separation there.

  85. And so then as we move in from there,

  86. God removes Adam and Eve

  87. from the Garden of Eden.

  88. They are now separated from him,

  89. and we see that God does not leave Adam without hope.

  90. It says in Genesis 3.15,

  91. that I will put hostility between you and the woman,

  92. and between your seed and her seed.

  93. He's talking to Satan here.

  94. And he will strike your head,

  95. and you will strike his heel.

  96. So from the very beginning,

  97. there was this promise.

  98. Man was now separated from God and lost.

  99. There was death.

  100. There was this spiritual separation.

  101. God said,

  102. one day,

  103. I'm going to crush Satan's head.

  104. I'm going to kill this evil,

  105. and there will be this bringing back

  106. of the way things were before sin.

  107. And so then we see that that goes into Noah,

  108. and we see how vile and how wicked the earth became

  109. when sin entered the world,

  110. and this separation that was there,

  111. that it took a very limited amount of time

  112. for God to literally wipe out most of creation.

  113. And yet,

  114. even in that,

  115. we find that

  116. with God starting with Noah and his family,

  117. it wasn't long before the Tower of Babel,

  118. and just proof that man was fallen

  119. and in need of a Savior.

  120. As we come into the Abrahamic covenant,

  121. to the law,

  122. we find that Israel came into being

  123. or into God's plan,

  124. and that God had a plan for Israel,

  125. that they were the beginning

  126. of restoring man to himself.

  127. He promised through Abraham

  128. that the nations would be blessed,

  129. and yet he pulled Israel out

  130. to be a light to the nations,

  131. to be a light to those,

  132. the rest of the nations,

  133. to see God.

  134. And we see that beginning with Egypt,

  135. that God said,

  136. I raised up Pharaoh.

  137. He says this,

  138. I believe it's in Hebrews,

  139. that God raised up Pharaoh

  140. that he might show,

  141. show his glory,

  142. his majesty.

  143. I guess just realizing

  144. the depth of the need

  145. that man had for a Savior,

  146. and then looking as the law was given,

  147. it says that the law

  148. was a tutor to bring us to Christ,

  149. that basically the law,

  150. it's in Hebrews.

  151. Let me go to Hebrews.

  152. Hebrews chapter 10.

    Hebrews 10 chapter mention

  153. It says,

  154. Since the law has only a shadow

  155. of the good things to come,

  156. and not the actual form

  157. of these realities,

  158. it can never perfect the worshipers

  159. by the same sacrifices.

  160. They continually offer

  161. year after year.

  162. Otherwise,

  163. wouldn't they have stopped

  164. being offered,

  165. since the worshipers,

  166. once purified,

  167. would no longer have

  168. any confession of sins.

  169. But in the sacrifices,

  170. there was a reminder

  171. of sins every year,

  172. for it is impossible

  173. for the blood of bulls and ghosts

  174. to take away sin.

  175. And so you see the nation of Israel

  176. longing for the Savior.

  177. They knew that they were sinful.

  178. The law brought about

  179. a consciousness of sin.

  180. Paul talks about how

  181. the sin-taking opportunity

  182. of the law

  183. works in him,

  184. that it just shows

  185. the corruption that he has.

  186. And then the sacrificial system

  187. was a picture

  188. of things to come.

  189. It was incomplete,

  190. but they knew it was coming.

  191. And so you see God's plan

  192. being worked out

  193. as he shows man

  194. his need for him,

  195. his holy law,

  196. and what his standards are.

  197. He commanded Israel

  198. over and over and over again

  199. throughout Leviticus

  200. to be holy as he is holy.

  201. The standard was set

  202. at perfection,

  203. but only one sin,

  204. James 2.10,

  205. he who keeps the whole law

  206. and yet stumbles

  207. at one point

  208. is guilty of all.

  209. And so man was in this

  210. great need of a Savior.

  211. And all throughout

  212. the Old Testament,

  213. we see as man failed

  214. to live up to God's standards.

  215. We have in the book of Psalms

  216. a great example

  217. of God's,

  218. of a heart of a godly man

  219. that knew his sin

  220. and yet had a relationship

  221. with Christ

  222. and knew,

  223. or a relationship with God

  224. and knew what was coming.

  225. You see there's just

  226. the praise that he had

  227. for God working

  228. through his law

  229. and through his spirit.

  230. And so that brings us

  231. into the prophets

  232. who were shouting out,

  233. basically,

  234. the need for repentance

  235. and the Isaiah,

  236. the prophecy

  237. of a coming Savior.

  238. And so Israel

  239. was looking forward

  240. to this coming Savior

  241. that would save them

  242. from their sins

  243. and that would bring

  244. redemption

  245. and reconciliation

  246. back to them.

  247. The temple was set up

  248. in such a way

  249. that God dwelt,

  250. his Shekinah glory

  251. dwelt in the temple

  252. in the Holy of Holies,

  253. but man was separated

  254. from that.

  255. There was a veil

  256. that separated man

  257. from that.

  258. And so these people

  259. had to go through

  260. a priest

  261. who entered once

  262. a year

  263. into the holy place

  264. and his offering

  265. was the atonement

  266. or the,

  267. it was the,

  268. yeah,

  269. it was basically

  270. the atonement

  271. was what was the shadow

  272. of things to come

  273. until Christ came.

  274. and so,

  275. I just,

  276. I wanted to make clear

  277. through this

  278. that we have examples

  279. of Daniel,

  280. of Jonah,

  281. the Psalms continually

  282. talks about

  283. shouting out

  284. to the nations

  285. that God raised up Israel

  286. to be a light

  287. to the nations.

  288. They weren't designed

  289. to be this little

  290. separate group of people

  291. that never had any

  292. interaction with the

  293. outside world,

  294. that they were to be a light

  295. to which other nations

  296. were drawn to God,

  297. not to them.

  298. And yet,

  299. so often,

  300. Israel failed

  301. to live up to that standard.

  302. They rebelled,

  303. they worshipped foreign gods,

  304. they allowed the nations

  305. to affect them,

  306. and yet,

  307. God was faithful to them,

  308. He was merciful to them

  309. over and over again.

  310. He judged them,

  311. but He always brought them back

  312. in mercy and love,

  313. and so,

  314. it's often stated

  315. that God is different

  316. in the Old Testament

  317. than He is in the New Testament,

  318. but just looking at

  319. how God dealt

  320. with the nation of Israel

  321. and His love

  322. and His mercy

  323. towards them

  324. is incredible.

  325. And so,

  326. getting forward,

  327. let's just go straight

  328. into Christ.

  329. That's really what

  330. we're here for today

  331. is Christ.

  332. He is the answer

  333. to the Old Testament.

  334. He's just,

  335. it's amazing.

  336. As I was studying for this,

  337. it's just,

  338. it really is amazing.

  339. So,

  340. let's,

  341. let's see here.

  342. Let's look at

  343. John chapter 1.

    John 1 chapter mention

  344. We find that

  345. in the beginning

  346. was the Word,

  347. and the Word was

  348. with God,

  349. and the Word was God.

  350. He was with God

  351. in the beginning,

  352. and all things

  353. were created through Him.

  354. Once again,

  355. we have that Christ

  356. was the Creator

  357. of all things,

  358. and through Him

  359. all things hold together.

  360. All things were created

  361. through Him,

  362. and apart from Him

  363. nothing was made

  364. that was made.

  365. He,

  366. when Christ came,

  367. we've got to remember

  368. that He was fully God.

  369. He was fully man,

  370. but He was also

  371. fully God,

  372. and so as God

  373. came to earth,

  374. man who for 4,000 years

  375. had been separated

  376. from God,

  377. finally was able

  378. to see God

  379. in human flesh.

  380. That should blow

  381. our minds right there,

  382. that God who was

  383. unable to be seen

  384. has come

  385. in human flesh,

  386. veiled His glory

  387. so that we could see Him

  388. in human flesh.

  389. And it says

  390. He came into His own,

  391. and His own

  392. did not receive Him.

  393. we have a tendency,

  394. I think,

  395. or at least I have

  396. a tendency

  397. to say

  398. shame on people.

  399. Shame on those people

  400. because

  401. if I would have been there

  402. and that was God,

  403. I mean,

  404. how amazing

  405. would that have been?

  406. But yet,

  407. we,

  408. Ephesians 2, 1

  409. says we were dead

  410. in our trespasses

  411. and sins.

  412. We love darkness

  413. rather than light.

  414. He came into His own,

  415. and His own

  416. did not receive Him.

  417. And so we see

  418. Christ's life

  419. lived out in perfection.

  420. He was tempted

  421. as we are

  422. in all ways.

  423. He was fully human

  424. yet without sin.

  425. And so what He did

  426. for us

  427. is amazing.

  428. What we could never do,

  429. James 2, 10,

  430. if we keep the whole

  431. long yet stumble

  432. at one point,

  433. we're guilty of all.

  434. We all have sinned

  435. and fallen short

  436. of the glory of God,

  437. and yet He came

  438. and He lived

  439. a life without sin

  440. in the midst

  441. of a world

  442. that hated Him.

  443. He was persecuted.

  444. He was tempted.

  445. Just,

  446. yeah.

  447. Isaiah 53, 11

  448. talks of,

  449. let's go there

  450. for a second.

  451. Isaiah 53.

  452. Alright,

  453. this is,

  454. Isaiah.

  455. He will see it out

  456. of His anguish,

  457. and He will be satisfied

  458. with His knowledge.

  459. My righteous servant

  460. will justify many,

  461. and He will carry

  462. their iniquities.

  463. Therefore,

  464. I will give Him

  465. the many

  466. as a portion.

  467. He will receive

  468. the mighty as spoiled

  469. because He has submitted

  470. Himself to death

  471. and was counted

  472. among the rebels.

  473. Christ came

  474. out of love for us,

  475. but He came out

  476. of a love for the Father,

  477. to do the Father's will.

  478. He said,

  479. I didn't come to do

  480. my will,

  481. but the will of the Father.

  482. It is God's,

  483. been God's plan

  484. since the beginning

  485. that He would redeem

  486. a people to Himself.

  487. We have been

  488. separated from God,

  489. and yet God

  490. sent Himself.

  491. He sent God Himself,

  492. Christ,

  493. to reconcile us.

  494. The cross

  495. is the focal point

  496. at which God

  497. absorbed the wrath

  498. that God had for us

  499. upon Himself.

  500. The crucifixion

  501. was horrible.

  502. It was the worst death

  503. imaginable,

  504. that it was nothing

  505. in comparison

  506. to the wrath

  507. of God being

  508. poured out upon His Son.

  509. God,

  510. that's amazing.

  511. I heard it said once

  512. that only an infinite God

  513. could pay an infinite price

  514. for our sins

  515. in a finite amount of time.

  516. But for us,

  517. as finite individuals,

  518. it would take an infinite amount

  519. of time to pay

  520. for an infinite debt,

  521. amount of wrath.

  522. God absorbed an infinite amount

  523. of wrath

  524. upon that cross.

  525. Praise the Lord.

  526. That should drive us

  527. to a love

  528. for Christ

  529. that should totally

  530. transform our lives.

  531. That's what we've been called to

  532. as believers,

  533. is to love the Lord our God.

  534. And I think when we get

  535. an image of the cross,

  536. of what Christ did for us,

  537. it will transform our lives.

  538. When Christ died,

  539. we know from the New Testament

  540. that the veil was torn.

  541. And just to view the...

  542. For 6,000 years,

  543. men had been separated from God

  544. from what they were created to do.

  545. Remember that when we were created,

  546. we were created

  547. with the relationship with Christ.

  548. Man was designed

  549. to know and to glorify God

  550. through a relationship with Him

  551. and through obeying His law.

  552. For this 4,000 year period,

  553. man had been separated from God

  554. and had been proving

  555. over and over and over again

  556. how corrupt and how vile

  557. he was apart from Christ.

  558. And now,

  559. the veil had been torn.

  560. And no longer did man

  561. need to go through a high priest,

  562. but he could go

  563. through Christ

  564. directly in

  565. to God.

  566. And so often,

  567. we,

  568. I,

  569. become

  570. so focused on

  571. what I'm doing.

  572. How am I

  573. living my Christian life?

  574. The ins and outs,

  575. the details and all of that.

  576. And Jesus rebuked the Pharisees.

  577. He said,

  578. you look in the Scriptures

  579. because you think that in them

  580. you have eternal life.

  581. And He rebuked them

  582. because they forgot Him.

  583. And I think so often,

  584. we get caught up,

  585. and it's really legalism,

  586. but we get caught up

  587. in pleasing God

  588. by our actions

  589. when in reality,

  590. Christ is saying,

  591. I didn't,

  592. I came and I fulfilled the law.

  593. He said,

  594. I didn't come to abolish the law,

  595. I came to fulfill the law.

  596. And in that,

  597. we can know Him,

  598. we can have a relationship

  599. with Him.

  600. He said in John,

  601. He said,

  602. this is eternal life

  603. that you may know Him

  604. and Jesus Christ

  605. to His Son,

  606. that you may know God

  607. and Jesus Christ.

  608. We've been created

  609. to have a relationship

  610. with Christ.

  611. To know Him

  612. and to know His voice,

  613. He said that,

  614. my sheep hear my voice

  615. and they know me.

  616. I would,

  617. I would just encourage you

  618. and encourage myself,

  619. learn to know

  620. the voice of the Lord.

  621. to hear from His Word,

  622. to hear the Spirit within you.

  623. As you live life,

  624. Paul said,

  625. whatever you do,

  626. whether you're eating

  627. or whether you're drinking,

  628. do all of the glory of God.

  629. Realize that everything

  630. that we do

  631. is some form of worship.

  632. We're either worshiping ourselves

  633. or we're worshiping someone else

  634. or we're worshiping God.

  635. That we,

  636. everything we do

  637. is an act of worship

  638. of some kind

  639. to someone.

  640. And so,

  641. call us,

  642. the exhortation is

  643. to do all to the glory of God.

  644. Your daily living,

  645. it's not religion and life,

  646. it's life,

  647. is spiritual.

  648. We are spiritual.

  649. We are created

  650. in the image of God.

  651. And so,

  652. as we live life,

  653. let us live

  654. in a relationship

  655. with Christ.

  656. with the death of Christ

  657. and came the,

  658. or with the beginning

  659. of the church

  660. came the,

  661. the coming of the Holy Spirit.

  662. We now have God

  663. dwelling within us.

  664. Once again,

  665. it's that picture

  666. of reconciliation

  667. where no longer

  668. is man separated from God,

  669. but now God dwells within us.

  670. And so,

  671. as we live life,

  672. we're not left

  673. without a helper.

  674. That if you are a believer,

  675. you have God

  676. living within you.

  677. That we're no longer

  678. alive to ourselves,

  679. but we're dead to ourselves

  680. and alive to Christ

  681. as His Spirit comes in

  682. and changes us.

  683. Sanctification is this

  684. process of

  685. leaving behind,

  686. of putting to death

  687. the deeds of our flesh

  688. and living according

  689. to the Spirit.

  690. That's a process.

  691. We've been saved,

  692. we're being saved,

  693. and we will be saved,

  694. we'll be glorified.

  695. But that the Holy Spirit

  696. is working within us.

  697. And as believers,

  698. it says that we're

  699. not to be drunk with wine,

  700. but be filled with the Spirit.

  701. The idea there

  702. as of a ship

  703. in Paul's day

  704. would have a sail.

  705. And basically,

  706. that the sail,

  707. as it was turned

  708. to the right way,

  709. would be filled with the wind

  710. and driven along.

  711. And so this idea of

  712. as we live the Christian life,

  713. to metaphorically,

  714. to turn ourselves

  715. into God

  716. and to be driven

  717. by the Holy Spirit.

  718. And so it's,

  719. it's our,

  720. it should be our joy

  721. and our,

  722. our privilege as Christians

  723. to,

  724. to die daily to ourselves,

  725. to take up our cross daily

  726. and follow Christ

  727. and to turn

  728. into the Spirit

  729. and the Word of God.

  730. Let Him fill us

  731. with His Word

  732. and with His Spirit

  733. as we're moved along.

  734. Moving from that point,

  735. this is our Christian life now

  736. that we should be,

  737. our place now

  738. is to bring glory

  739. and honor to God

  740. that He's left us here

  741. for a purpose

  742. and that's to

  743. make His name known.

  744. Matthew 28,

  745. 18 through 20

  746. is the Great Commission.

  747. Go into all the world

  748. and preach the Gospel

  749. to every living creature,

  750. baptizing in the name

  751. of the Father

  752. and the Son

  753. and the Holy Spirit,

  754. teaching them

  755. all that I've commanded you.

  756. For lo,

  757. I'm with you always,

  758. even to the end of the age.

  759. And He's saying,

  760. My Spirit will be with you.

  761. I've given,

  762. given you what you need

  763. to do this.

  764. I will be with you.

  765. And He's saying,

  766. as you're going,

  767. is literally how that's stated.

  768. It's not that we,

  769. once again,

  770. segmented,

  771. that we segment,

  772. we go,

  773. I'm going to be headed overseas

  774. in a week and a half,

  775. that,

  776. oh,

  777. I go and then I come back

  778. and life is normal.

  779. It's as you're going,

  780. living a life

  781. that is

  782. filled with the Spirit

  783. and as you're going,

  784. telling others about

  785. what Christ has done

  786. in your life.

  787. And then,

  788. moving forward

  789. to the end of the age,

  790. to Revelation,

  791. there's some amazing things

  792. in Revelation.

  793. Let's turn to Revelation 21.

  794. Let's go to Revelation 22.

  795. Then we'll go back to 21.

  796. It says,

  797. in verse 3,

  798. and there will no longer

  799. be any curse.

  800. The throne of God

  801. and of the Lamb

  802. will be in the city

  803. and His slaves

  804. will serve Him.

  805. They will see His face

  806. and His name

  807. will be on their foreheads.

  808. When we look at heaven,

  809. the overwhelming thought

  810. that should consume us

  811. is that we will dwell

  812. with God physically.

  813. that's,

  814. if you know Christ

  815. and you love Him,

  816. what an amazing thought

  817. that this,

  818. that the God

  819. who dwells in you now

  820. will one day dwell

  821. with us physically

  822. in a new heaven,

  823. a new earth

  824. for eternity.

  825. that should drive

  826. our lives

  827. as we have

  828. this eternal focus

  829. of where we're going.

  830. But what a glorious thought

  831. that one day

  832. we will dwell

  833. with God

  834. in perfection

  835. without a curse.

  836. It says the curse is gone.

  837. And so we will return

  838. in a way

  839. to the Garden of Eden.

  840. Life will be perfect.

  841. The curse will be gone.

  842. The fellowship

  843. will be there.

  844. We will live life.

  845. It's not,

  846. it's eternal life.

  847. It's not

  848. that time stops

  849. and we don't,

  850. it's kind of this

  851. floating out

  852. in the clouds mentality.

  853. But that we'll live

  854. with God

  855. in human,

  856. in our human form.

  857. We'll have a resurrected body

  858. but it will be

  859. without the curse.

  860. And sin will be gone.

  861. What a glorious thought.

  862. The greatest enemy

  863. that we have within it,

  864. or is the greatest enemy

  865. that we have

  866. is within us

  867. and it's our flesh.

  868. Paul said,

  869. I know that in me

  870. dwells no good thing.

  871. He knew that his flesh

  872. had been corrupted,

  873. completely corrupted

  874. by sin,

  875. but that God

  876. was redeeming him.

  877. And he said,

  878. I've died to myself

  879. and I'm living to Christ.

  880. And he looked forward

  881. to that day.

  882. He said at the end

  883. of Romans 7,

  884. O wretched man

  885. that I am,

  886. who will deliver me

  887. from this body of death?

  888. Thank God

  889. for Christ Jesus.

  890. When we

  891. come into heaven,

  892. we will have

  893. that resurrected body

  894. that will be freed

  895. from this body of death,

  896. this body of sin.

  897. And so we will

  898. be able to

  899. once again

  900. fully worship God

  901. to our maximum capability

  902. without the hindrance

  903. of sin

  904. and our flesh

  905. in this world.

  906. What a glorious thought.

  907. Going back to

  908. Revelation 21.

  909. Did I read the,

  910. I read the wrong passage,

  911. didn't I?

  912. Revelation 22.3.

  913. No, okay.

  914. Let's go back

  915. to Revelation 21.

  916. It will be

  917. 1-7.

  918. This is a,

  919. this is an image

  920. of what the new heaven

  921. and the new earth

  922. will be like.

  923. Just let this,

  924. let this come into your heart

  925. and realize

  926. this is where we're headed.

  927. Then I saw

  928. the new heaven

  929. and the new earth

  930. for the first heaven

  931. and the first earth

  932. had passed away

  933. and the sea

  934. no longer existed.

  935. I also saw

  936. the holy city,

  937. the new Jerusalem

  938. coming down

  939. out of heaven

  940. from God

  941. prepared like a bride

  942. adorned for a husband.

  943. Then I heard

  944. a loud voice

  945. from the throne

  946. saying,

  947. Look!

  948. God's dwelling

  949. is with humanity

  950. and He will live

  951. with them.

  952. They will be

  953. His people

  954. and God Himself

  955. will be with them

  956. and be their God.

  957. He will wipe away

  958. every tear

  959. from their eyes.

  960. Death will no longer exist.

  961. grief,

  962. crying,

  963. and pain

  964. will exist

  965. no longer

  966. because the previous

  967. things have passed away.

  968. Brothers and sisters,

  969. that's where we're headed.

  970. That,

  971. that is

  972. what God

  973. has redeemed us to.

  974. That is eternal life.

  975. It says that,

  976. well,

  977. before,

  978. that eternal life

  979. is this,

  980. that you may know Him

  981. and Jesus Christ.

  982. This,

  983. this is where we're going.

  984. that this time now

  985. is limited.

  986. Maybe 60,

  987. 70,

  988. 80 years

  989. for most of us.

  990. Maybe less for some.

  991. But that we're,

  992. we're headed towards this.

  993. And so,

  994. what are we to do now

  995. as we're moving

  996. towards this time

  997. of dwelling with God

  998. for eternity?

  999. I just,

  1000. I want to

  1001. exhort you

  1002. to live with

  1003. a heavenly focus.

  1004. Live with a mindset

  1005. of knowing

  1006. that we,

  1007. apart from Christ,

  1008. are dead

  1009. in our trespasses

  1010. and sins.

  1011. That our wrath,

  1012. the wrath against us

  1013. is infinite

  1014. because we have sinned

  1015. against an infinite God.

  1016. But that Christ

  1017. has come

1018. and that He has paid

  1019. an infinite price

  1020. for our sins

1021. so that we can now

  1022. be reconciled

  1023. to Him.

  1024. That's the story

  1025. of creation.

  1026. That's the story

  1027. of redemption.

  1028. Beginning in Genesis,

  1029. just in summation,

  1030. that we began

  1031. with God

  1032. in a relationship

  1033. with Him.

  1034. That man felt

  1035. that there was now

  1036. this barrier

  1037. between God and man.

  1038. That man has sinned

  1039. awfully

  1040. through the Old Testament

  1041. and was in need

  1042. of a Savior.

  1043. But that there was

  1044. this promise

1045. that a Savior would come.

  1046. That Christ has come

  1047. and He has absorbed,

  1048. taken the wrath

  1049. of God upon Himself.

  1050. And by His wounds,

  1051. by His wounds

  1052. we are healed.

  1053. And that now

  1054. we've been given

  1055. the ministry

  1056. of reconciliation.

  1057. That we now

  1058. are to go

  1059. and tell others.

  1060. If God has changed

  1061. your life

  1062. and His Spirit

  1063. dwells in you

  1064. and it says

  1065. that my sheep

  1066. know me

1067. and they hear my voice

  1068. and by this

  1069. you'll know

  1070. that you love me

  1071. if you keep

  1072. my commandments.

  1073. are we striving

  1074. to keep God's commandments

1075. out of a love for Him

  1076. or are we striving

  1077. to keep God's commandments

1078. to get a love from Him?

  1079. God's love

  1080. is unconditional

  1081. upon us.

  1082. He came

1083. while we were yet sinners

  1084. Christ died for us.

  1085. It's a love

  1086. that we're called to

  1087. but it's not a human love.

  1088. If your goal

  1089. is to love people

  1090. with a human love

  1091. people aren't very easy

  1092. to deal with.

1093. But that if you love

  1094. people with God's love

1095. you begin to see them

  1096. not as a physical

  1097. human being

  1098. but each person

  1099. is a soul

  1100. that has worth

  1101. and that each person

  1102. is lost

1103. in the need of a Savior

  1104. and that should

  1105. that should drive us

  1106. to tell the nations

  1107. to declare

  1108. to declare His glory

  1109. among the nations

  1110. that He is worthy

  1111. of praise

  1112. and of adoration

  1113. for what He's done.

1114. And so as we see

  1115. a lost humanity

  1116. we see a world

  1117. that is

  1118. basically

  1119. insulting Christ.

  1120. What we do

  1121. is a direct

  1122. insult

  1123. against Him

  1124. and yet

  1125. Christ has forgiven us

  1126. in that.

  1127. And so my

  1128. plea

  1129. is for us

  1130. to have a

  1131. greater love

  1132. for Christ

  1133. realizing what

  1134. He's done for us

  1135. with the greatness

  1136. of our sin

  1137. sinning against

  1138. the infinite God

  1139. and yet the greatness

  1140. of His love

  1141. towards us

  1142. and that should

  1143. drive us to worship

  1144. and praise

  1145. and love.

  1146. I want to

  1147. close with

  1148. kind of

  1149. an illustration.

  1150. I was in

  1151. Mexico

  1152. about a year

  1153. ago

  1154. talking to a

  1155. missionary

  1156. and he said

  1157. Daniel

  1158. it was really funny

  1159. I'd asked him

  1160. I said

  1161. are we on schedule

  1162. and we were

  1163. doing some things

  1164. and some

  1165. distractions

  1166. had come up

  1167. and he said

  1168. Daniel

  1169. we're always

  1170. on schedule

  1171. and I said

  1172. what does that mean

  1173. and he said

  1174. let me explain it

  1175. to you

  1176. he said

  1177. Daniel

  1178. when you get up

  1179. every day

  1180. you have a choice

  1181. he said

  1182. let me liken it

  1183. to this

  1184. there were

  1185. three servants

  1186. in a king

  1187. and the one servant

  1188. would get up

  1189. every day

  1190. and he would

  1191. go out

  1192. into the kingdom

  1193. and do whatever

  1194. he wanted

  1195. he just

  1196. you know

  1197. if he wanted

  1198. to do whatever

  1199. he would do that

  1200. and do something else

  1201. he would do that

1202. and if he did nothing

  1203. that was fine too

  1204. he said

1205. and that was one servant

  1206. and then there was

  1207. another servant

  1208. there was a servant

  1209. that went out

  1210. every day

  1211. and he ran around

1212. as fast as he could

1213. as hard as he could

  1214. and he did

  1215. everything he could

  1216. that he thought

  1217. the king wanted him

  1218. to do

  1219. and he worked

  1220. and he worked

  1221. and he worked

  1222. and he worked

  1223. and the king

  1224. sat in his kingdom

  1225. and shook his head

  1226. and went

  1227. why

  1228. why

  1229. why

  1230. why

  1231. but there was

  1232. a third servant

  1233. and the third servant

  1234. would go before

  1235. his king daily

  1236. and he would

  1237. come and kneel

  1238. before his king

  1239. and say

  1240. sir

  1241. say king

  1242. here I am

  1243. I love you

  1244. and I know

  1245. that you love me

  1246. what would you have

1247. for me to do today

  1248. and

  1249. he said

  1250. Daniel

  1251. that's the servant

  1252. that truly loves

  1253. his king

  1254. the other two servants

  1255. the one servant

  1256. didn't have a relationship

  1257. with the king

  1258. he was

1259. he was all caught up

  1260. in what he thought

  1261. he needed to do

  1262. he said

  1263. and the third one

  1264. didn't care about

  1265. the king

  1266. at all

  1267. he said

  1268. Daniel be that servant

  1269. and he said

  1270. as long as you're

  1271. that servant

  1272. and you're daily

  1273. coming before the Lord

  1274. realizing that you

  1275. are not your own

  1276. that you've been

  1277. bought with a price

  1278. therefore glorify

  1279. God in your body

  1280. that each day

  1281. Romans 12

  1282. 1

  1283. off your body

  1284. is a living sacrifice

  1285. holy and acceptable

  1286. to God

  1287. that's your reasonable

  1288. act of worship

  1289. that

  1290. as

  1291. you are God's servant

  1292. his bond slave

  1293. as Paul would say

  1294. that your

  1295. that your duty

  1296. as a

  1297. Christian

  1298. is to

  1299. to come before

  1300. the Lord daily

  1301. and say

  1302. I'm not my own

  1303. I am yours

1304. what do you have for me

  1305. and he said

  1306. Daniel as long as

  1307. we're doing that

1308. then we're right on schedule

  1309. because we're doing

1310. what God has called us to do

  1311. and realizing that

  1312. our

  1313. schedules

  1314. and our

  1315. routines

  1316. or what we think

1317. God wants us to do

1318. is often not at all

1319. what God wants us to do

1320. he wants us to have

  1321. ears to hear

  1322. and hearts that are

  1323. humble and listening

  1324. to the Lord

  1325. saying here I am

  1326. I've been created

  1327. to do

  1328. whatever it is

1329. that you want me to do

  1330. and just

  1331. as a believer

  1332. when your heart

  1333. is that way

  1334. your joy

  1335. will be

  1336. immense

  1337. peace will be

  1338. immense

  1339. because

  1340. you will know

  1341. that it

  1342. it is not

  1343. you

  1344. but that

  1345. it is

  1346. God

  1347. that lives

  1348. in you

  1349. that's

  1350. working

  1351. and willing

  1352. to do

  1353. his good

  1354. pleasure

  1355. there's

  1356. great joy

  1357. in that

  1358. if you

  1359. struggle

  1360. with

  1361. always

  1362. wondering

  1363. am I doing

  1364. what the Lord

  1365. wants me to do

  1366. or am I in

  1367. the Lord's

  1368. will

  1369. and that

  1370. if your heart

  1371. is humble

  1372. before the Lord

  1373. and you are

  1374. broken before him

  1375. saying Lord

  1376. here I am

  1377. use me

  1378. that's what

  1379. God's asked of us

  1380. and he will

  1381. use you

  1382. he says

  1383. that those

  1384. who call on him

  1385. he will no wise

  1386. cast out

  1387. his spirit

  1388. dwells within us

  1389. live life

  1390. in a way

  1391. of listening

  1392. to the spirit

  1393. within you

  1394. and of

  1395. listening to the

  1396. word of God

  1397. and then realize

  1398. that we have

  1399. the immense

  1400. blessing

  1401. of being able

  1402. to come boldly

  1403. before the throne

  1404. of grace

  1405. and to speak

  1406. to him

  1407. at any time

  1408. that he is

  1409. he is

  1410. there

  1411. that when we

  1412. are humble

  1413. and pure

  1414. before him

  1415. repenting of our

  1416. sin

  1417. when we

  1418. turn back

  1419. to ourselves

  1420. that God

  1421. is

  1422. the path

  1423. is clear

  1424. there is no

  1425. separation

  1426. there anymore

  1427. that God

  1428. has taken

  1429. that away

  1430. and we

  1431. truly

  1432. can be

  1433. in a relationship

  1434. with him

  1435. so I would

  1436. encourage you

  1437. to

  1438. first of all

  1439. to

  1440. come before him

  1441. daily

  1442. and say

  1443. Lord here I am

  1444. what would you

  1445. have me to do

  1446. today

  1447. that that's the

  1448. heart that God

  1449. calls us to

  1450. and then second

  1451. of all

  1452. to put the

  1453. gospel on your

  1454. lips

  1455. and in your

  1456. life

  1457. to be

  1458. a

  1459. living testimony

  1460. of who God

  1461. is to those

  1462. who have never

  1463. heard

  1464. about a

  1465. I guess about a

  1466. month ago

  1467. three or four

  1468. weeks ago

  1469. I had the

  1470. opportunity to

  1471. go down to

  1472. Buford

  1473. and do some

  1474. door to door

  1475. witnessing

  1476. so I began

  1477. to tell this

  1478. lady

  1479. about how

  1480. she was

  1481. really caught

  1482. up in this

  1483. idea that

  1484. she wasn't

  1485. worthy of

  1486. God

  1487. and I said

  1488. well ma'am

  1489. here's the

  1490. gospel that

  1491. you aren't

  1492. worthy of

  1493. God

  1494. but that

  1495. God has

  1496. come

  1497. and that

  1498. he has

  1499. paid your

  1500. sin and

  1501. that you

  1502. can now

  1503. have a

  1504. relationship

  1505. with him

  1506. and know

  1507. him

  1508. and she

  1509. said I've

  1510. never heard

  1511. it that way

  1512. before

  1513. I've never

  1514. heard that

  1515. before

  1516. so I

  1517. just want

  1518. to encourage

  1519. you

  1520. there are

  1521. people here

  1522. we tend

  1523. to think

  1524. that oh

  1525. they've

  1526. heard the

  1527. gospel

  1528. many people

  1529. have heard a

  1530. version of

  1531. the gospel

  1532. but it's

  1533. not the

  1534. gospel

  1535. the gospel

  1536. is not

  1537. that Jesus

  1538. is just a

  1539. savior

  1540. and that he

  1541. came and

  1542. died for our

  1543. sins so we

  1544. have a free

  1545. ticket into

  1546. heaven

  1547. he came for

  1548. so much more

  1549. than that

  1550. so that we

  1551. can know

  1552. him

  1553. and in

  1554. that there's

  1555. joy and

  1556. fulfillment in

  1557. life

  1558. so just

  1559. those two

  1560. things

  1561. to live

  1562. a humble

  1563. life

  1564. before

  1565. Christ

  1566. and to

  1567. live a

  1568. life

  1569. of

  1570. worship

  1571. and of

  1572. proclamation

  1573. of who

  1574. he is

  1575. and what

  1576. he's done

  1577. I had a

  1578. whole lot

  1579. more notes

  1580. than that

  1581. but that's

  1582. what came

  1583. out so

  1584. let's pray

  1585. a
