  1. We continue our verse-by-verse exposition through the Gospel according to Mark.

  2. ! We find ourselves in the last week of Jesus' earthly ministry.

  3. ! This is the week most often called Passion Week.

  4. !

  5. He leaves, comes back, cleanses the temple.

  6. And now he's back in the temple.

  7. He's established some authority in this place.

  8. And he's now being questioned.

  9. The Sadducees, the Pharisees, etc. are coming to him

  10. and wondering how it is that he has this authority.

  11. And they're now beginning to work on discrediting him.

  12. As we come to this text, I was really thankful this morning

  13. to hear the song on Jordan's stormy banks.

  14. As we live in this life, a life full of trouble,

  15. and we stand on the banks, so to speak, metaphorically of the Jordan,

  16. looking to the promise of God in Christ.

  17. I feel that way a bit in our text together.

  18. I want to rush to the great work of Jesus on our behalf on the cross

  19. and then his resurrection.

  20. It's going to take us some months to get to that point.

  21. And I feel in my own soul kind of attention for this

  22. as we preach through it.

  23. The last couple of weeks, we've been in Wednesday of Passion Week

  24. and we'll be there a bit longer still.

  25. I hope that you feel that way this morning.

  26. We've now experienced the redemptive work of Christ on our behalf.

  27. He has accomplished this thing, this great climax of redemptive history.

  28. And we're waiting for the next great event in redemptive history.

  29. And that is his return where he's brought in the kingdom of God.

  30. He's now going to bring it to a full culmination one day.

  31. And there should be a longing in our hearts for such a thing to come to pass.

  32. But in the midst of that, we come to these small stories.

  33. These, at first glance, maybe even insignificant stories

  34. in light of the thing that's going to happen in just a few days

  35. in the life of Christ, which has such a massive effect

  36. on the world and on us as well.

  37. But it's important that we pause

  38. and we take a careful look at these things.

  39. We saw last week in verses 13 through 17

  40. an interaction that he has with the Pharisees and the Herodians

  41. with a religious group and a political group.

  42. They've come together and they worked a question in such a way

  43. they believed it was so incredibly brilliant

  44. that they would trap him with both this political and theological question.

  45. And today we're going to see the Sadducees,

  46. another group, another religious group,

  47. and they're going to take a turn and take a stab

  48. at discrediting Jesus Christ.

  49. So I'm going to read to you in Mark 12, beginning in verse 18.

  50. So follow along as I read.

  51. And Sadducees came to him who say that there is no resurrection.

  52. And they asked him a question, saying,

  53. Teacher, Moses wrote for us that if a man's brother dies

  54. and leaves a wife, but leaves no child,

  55. the man must take the widow and raise up offspring for his brother.

  56. There were seven brothers.

  57. The first took a wife and when he died left no offspring.

  58. And the second took her and died, leaving no offspring.

  59. And the third likewise.

  60. And the seven left no offspring.

  61. Last of all, the woman also died.

  62. In the resurrection, when they rise again,

  63. whose wife will she be?

  64. For the seven had her as wife.

  65. Jesus said to them,

  66. Is this not the reason you are wrong?

  67. Because you know neither the scriptures nor the power of God.

  68. For when they rise from the dead,

  69. they neither marry nor are given in marriage,

  70. but are like angels in heaven.

  71. And as for the dead being raised,

  72. have you not read in the book of Moses,

  73. in the passage about the bush,

  74. how God spoke to him, saying,

  75. I am the God of Abraham,

  76. and the God of Isaac,

  77. and the God of Jacob.

  78. He is not God of the dead,

  79. but of the living.

  80. You are quite wrong.

  81. This is God's word to us.

  82. It was written for his glory and our good.

  83. We would all do well to listen to it

  84. in order to believe its promises

  85. and obey its commands.

  86. Let's pray together.

  87. Father God,

  88. for the preaching of your gospel,

  89. who is sufficient for such a thing?

  90. Surely not I.

  91. And none of us are sufficient

  92. for the proper application of these words

  93. to our minds and our hearts.

  94. And so we would pray this morning,

  95. by your Spirit,

  96. that you would illuminate our minds and our hearts,

  97. that you would help us to rightly understand

  98. and rightly apply these words of truth.

  99. We recognize that your word is authoritative,

  100. that it is inerrant,

  101. that it is sufficient,

  102. that it has something to say to us in this day,

  103. and we expect that, Lord,

  104. for your name's sake.

  105. So use me as a vessel.

  106. Surely you can accomplish good things

  107. in my speaking.

  108. Work to the great end of your people

  109. looking more like Christ,

  110. proclaiming your name in greater

  111. and more radical ways

  112. to your glory.

  113. And we pray all this in Jesus' precious name.

  114. Amen.

  115. So we have this new group that comes to Jesus,

  116. a group that's not mentioned

  117. all that often in the Scriptures,

  118. and so we must first ask the question,

  119. who were these Sadducees?

  120. Who are they?

  121. They're not so much a religious party,

  122. an established religious party,

  123. but this is rather a label given them,

  124. a people with a particular

  125. Judaic theological viewpoint.

  126. Now, it contained within it

  127. a number of variances,

  128. a number of discrepancies

  129. between what they and the Pharisees believed,

  130. and in fact,

  131. we could spend the entire time together

  132. just talking about that,

  133. the things that they believed

  134. versus what the Pharisees believed.

  135. In fact, this text has a lot of things

  136. we could spend a lot of time on,

  137. and it doesn't it?

  138. The nature of resurrection,

  139. we could talk about angels

  140. and our relation to them,

  141. but we're going to focus primarily

  142. on this question and this challenge, right?

  143. The context is driving us to Friday,

  144. to Jesus' judgment,

  145. his death,

  146. and then his subsequent resurrection.

  147. So we're going to stay in that realm.

  148. So these Sadduceean views

  149. were espoused by most

  150. of the priestly families in this day,

  151. so that most of the ruling class,

  152. those in the temple,

  153. the Sanhedrin,

  154. the court that was held,

  155. most of them were Sadducees, right?

  156. This belief system was held

  157. by most of those in power, right?

  158. Now, in one sense,

  159. and you've heard me say this

  160. over and over again,

  161. they were liberals.

  162. The Pharisees tended to be

  163. the more fundamental,

  164. the more conservative in that regard,

  165. in their practice of the law,

  166. their strict adherence to the law.

  167. It was the Pharisees

  168. that had added to the law of God,

  169. the hedge laws.

  170. They had heaped upon the law of God

  171. extra laws to keep you from ever breaking.

  172. So you might break the hedge laws,

  173. but to ever keep from breaking

  174. the law of God,

  175. which of course they all did,

  176. and they just didn't recognize it.

  177. They were hypocrites,

  178. whitewashed tombs,

  179. very unaware of their inability

  180. to keep the law.

  181. The Sadducees were a bit more liberal

  182. in that case,

  183. a little less concerned

  184. about strict adherence to the law.

  185. But in another,

  186. they were very conservative,

  187. and that was that they did not

  188. accept oral tradition.

  189. In this day,

  190. there was something called

  191. oral tradition.

  192. It exists in some denominations today,

  193. which was a passing down of teaching.

  194. They would listen to the teachings

  195. of a rabbi,

  196. rabbinical teachings,

  197. and they would apply those teachings

  198. and understand the scriptures

  199. by them,

  200. in many cases,

  201. elevating them even to the degree

  202. of scripture.

  203. The Sadducees did not do this.

  204. They totally rejected

  205. the oral tradition,

  206. and they held just to the scriptures.

  207. Now,

  208. interestingly,

  209. they held almost exclusively

  210. to the Pentateuch,

  211. to the books of Moses,

  212. Genesis, Exodus,

  213. Levitas,

  214. Numbers,

  215. Deuteronomy.

  216. They highly elevated

  217. the writings of Moses.

  218. They didn't deny the rest

  219. of the Jewish scriptures,

  220. which we would have

  221. as our Old Testament.

  222. They didn't deny them

  223. as the word of God,

  224. but those were always

  225. subservient to the Pentateuch.

  226. So,

  227. if something was taught

  228. in the rest of our Old Testament

  229. and their scriptures of the day

  230. that they couldn't find proof for

  231. in the Pentateuch

  232. and the writings of Moses,

  233. they would disregard it altogether.

  234. And the resurrection

  235. is one of those cases,

  236. right?

  237. In fact,

  238. it was a rather major one

  239. in this day.

  240. This was a common theological debate

  241. that took place

  242. between the Sadducees

  243. and the Pharisees.

  244. It was something

  245. that was talked about often.

  246. Is there a resurrection?

  247. Is there an afterlife?

  248. It would seem,

  249. and it's my belief,

  250. that the Sadducees

  251. were what we would call

  252. annihilationists.

  253. They believed that

  254. at the end of your life,

  255. you died

  256. and nothing happened beyond.

  257. You just were gone.

  258. There was no eternal joy.

  259. There was no eternal punishment.

  260. You were simply gone.

  261. Now, the Old Testament

  262. does teach about resurrection,

  263. but in some of these,

  264. in their minds,

  265. lesser books,

  266. like in Isaiah 26, 19.

  267. Your dead shall live,

  268. their body shall rise.

  269. You who dwell in the dust,

  270. awake and sing for joy.

  271. For your dew is a dew of light,

  272. and the earth will give birth

  273. to the dead.

  274. Daniel 12, 2 also.

  275. Possibly, with some hindsight,

  276. knowing what we know now,

  277. you can look back at some other texts

  278. and see this idea of resurrection,

  279. although in their day

  280. it would have been challenging.

  281. For further study,

  282. Psalm 16, 9-11,

  283. Psalm 49, 15, 73, 23-26,

  284. Job 19, 25-26.

  285. There are some places

  286. that it's spoken of,

  287. but it wasn't so explicit

  288. in this case.

  289. So the only two explicit examples

  290. we have is Isaiah 26, 19

  291. and Daniel 12, 2.

  292. Now the Pharisees tried,

  293. although they failed,

  294. to make a case from the Pentateuch

  295. for the resurrection,

  296. and the Sadducees just

  297. were not convinced of this.

  298. Now Jesus believed in resurrection.

  299. Praise God.

  300. I'm really glad that He did.

  301. We see some examples of that

  302. in the Gospel of Mark already.

  303. So turn back a few chapters

  304. to Mark 8, verse 31.

    Mark 8:31

  305. Chapter 8, chapter 9, chapter 10,

  306. we see predictions

  307. of what's about to happen.

  308. He's teaching the disciples

  309. what's coming.

  310. We're headed on a journey.

  311. We're going towards Jerusalem.

  312. Let me tell you what's going to happen

  313. in this Passion Week.

  314. Verse 31 says,

  315. And He began to teach them

  316. that the Son of Man

  317. must suffer many things

  318. and be rejected by the elders

  319. and the chief priests

  320. and the scribes.

  321. Isn't that what's happening

  322. on this Wednesday

  323. in this interaction?

  324. And be killed.

  325. And after three days,

  326. rise again.

  327. Chapter 9, verse 31,

  328. For He was teaching His disciples,

  329. saying to them,

  330. The Son of Man is going to be delivered

  331. into the hands of men,

  332. and they will kill Him.

  333. And when He is killed,

  334. after three days,

  335. He will rise.

  336. Chapter 10, verse 33 and 34,

  337. See, we are going up to Jerusalem,

  338. and the Son of Man will be delivered

  339. over to the chief priests

  340. and the scribes,

  341. and they will condemn Him to death

  342. and deliver Him over to the Gentiles,

  343. and they will mock Him

  344. and spit on Him

  345. and flog Him

  346. and kill Him.

  347. And after three days,

  348. He will rise.

  349. This is the great hope

  350. and the suffering

  351. that Jesus was going to experience

  352. is that He would, in fact,

  353. one day,

  354. three days, in fact,

  355. after His death,

  356. rise again.

  357. Jesus certainly believed

  358. in raising from the dead

  359. as He had raised Lazarus

  360. from the dead.

  361. It's not recorded

  362. in the Gospel of Mark,

  363. but it is elsewhere

  364. that Lazarus

  365. had come back to life

  366. by the words of Jesus Christ.

  367. So, the Sadducees come to Him

  368. with this question

  369. knowing this of Him.

  370. They have placed Him

  371. in this category

  372. with the Pharisees,

  373. and they mean to humiliate Him

  374. by this question.

  375. Because this question,

  376. by their attempt,

  377. is a reductio ad absurdum,

  378. which is Latin for

  379. reduction to absurdity.

  380. They're essentially saying to Him,

  381. how can you possibly believe

  382. in such a thing

  383. as a resurrection from the dead?

  384. Let us give you this

  385. insane situation

  386. that makes it just seem

  387. that it would be impossible.

  388. It's not a genuine question.

  389. They're not coming to Him

  390. with teachable hearts,

  391. wanting to know

  392. from the Lord of Lords

  393. what the answer

  394. to this question is.

  395. They're coming to Him

  396. to trick Him,

  397. to humiliate Him,

  398. as He, they suppose,

  399. would not be able

  400. to give an answer

  401. to such a question.

  402. They obviously didn't know

  403. who they were talking to.

  404. So they set up

  405. this scenario for Him.

  406. You see in verse 19,

  407. they say,

  408. Teacher, Moses wrote for us.

  409. And they're quoting directly

  410. after this from Deuteronomy 25,

  411. 5, and 6.

  412. Let me read that to you.

  413. If brothers dwell together,

  414. and one of them dies

  415. and has no son,

  416. the wife of the dead man

  417. shall not be married

  418. outside the family

  419. to a stranger.

  420. Her husband's brother

  421. shall go into her

  422. and take her as his wife

  423. and perform the duty

  424. of a husband's brother

  425. to her.

  426. And the first son

  427. who she bears

  428. shall succeed

  429. to the name

  430. of his dead brother

  431. that his name

  432. may not be blotted out

  433. of Israel.

  434. So this was a command,

  435. a way in which

  436. the brother's lineage

  437. was maintained

  438. that an unmarried brother

  439. living in the home

  440. would step into the role

  441. of the husband,

  442. would become the husband,

  443. and the first son

  444. would carry on

  445. the name of his brother.

  446. And there's some

  447. extreme examples

  448. and some severe punishments

  449. that go on beyond that

  450. you're welcome to read

  451. in Deuteronomy 25

  452. at a later time.

  453. So they set up

  454. a scenario for him

  455. where there are

  456. seven brothers

  457. living in a house together.

  458. The first one's married

  459. and they go through

  460. this process

  461. of death and remarriage

  462. and death and remarriage

  463. and death and remarriage

  464. and none of them have

  465. a child.

  466. There's never a child.

  467. There's never a child

  468. to carry on the posterity

  469. and they finally wrap

  470. all this up

  471. in the resurrection.

  472. So if this thing

  473. called resurrection is true,

  474. if it happens,

  475. if there's life after this,

  476. whose wife will she be?

  477. Oh, what are you going

  478. to do with that, Jesus?

  479. Whose wife is she going to be?

  480. She had seven husbands.

  481. What are we going to do?

  482. And Jesus answers

  483. in the great wisdom

  484. that he always does.

  485. Right?

  486. A double indictment.

  487. And you see that he says

  488. in verse 24,

  489. you are wrong.

  490. And at the end of verse 27,

  491. he says again,

  492. you are quite wrong

  493. because you know

  494. neither the scriptures

  495. nor the power

  496. of God.

  497. You do not know

  498. the scriptures.

  499. This would have been

  500. an incredible statement

  501. to say to these men

  502. in this day.

  503. These were the leaders.

  504. These were the guys

  505. that knew the scriptures.

  506. These were the guys

  507. in positions

  508. of religious authority.

  509. These are the guys

  510. that spent their days

  511. studying the scriptures.

  512. In fact,

  513. this particular group

  514. were the guys

  515. that said,

  516. we're not even going

  517. to listen to oral traditions.

  518. We're going to stay

  519. honed in on the scriptures.

  520. More than that,

  521. Moses is our great father.

  522. We're going to really,

  523. really apply ourselves

  524. to those books,

  525. to the Pentateuch,

  526. to those five.

  527. Right?

  528. This would have been

  529. shocking to them.

  530. You do not know

  531. the scriptures.

  532. They had no clear

  533. understanding

  534. of the scriptures at all.

  535. In fact,

  536. if they had,

  537. they would be leading Israel

  538. in a much different way.

  539. Jesus is going to continue

  540. to establish this for us

  541. and show us the way of God

  542. rather than the way

  543. of apostate Judaism.

  544. Right?

  545. Jews in this day,

  546. by and large,

  547. didn't follow the ways of God.

  548. They followed some set-up religion

  549. that they had formed.

  550. It had kind of come out

  551. of the law of God.

  552. But they had formulated it

  553. and thought that they were

  554. in right standing with Him

  555. because of the things

  556. that they did

  557. rather than the condition

  558. of their heart.

  559. Right?

  560. You do not know

  561. the scriptures.

  562. And this God

  563. that they claimed

  564. to worship,

  565. they apparently

  566. had no real understanding

  567. of His character

  568. because He also says

  569. nor the power of God,

  570. the God that can,

  571. in fact,

  572. raise someone

  573. from the dead.

  574. You don't understand

  575. either of these things.

  576. And we see so often

  577. it would seem

  578. with the Pharisees

  579. that they worshipped

  580. the right God

  581. wrongly.

  582. In the case of the Sadducees,

  583. it seems that they were

  584. worshipping the wrong God

  585. wrongly altogether.

  586. Jesus goes on

  587. to explain what He means.

  588. Verse 25,

  589. For when they rise

  590. from the dead,

  591. they neither marry

  592. nor are given in marriage

  593. but are like angels

  594. in heaven.

  595. Now here He's introducing

  596. some additional

  597. theological information

  598. to the scene of this day.

  599. I looked and looked.

  600. I thought for sure

  601. He had to have been

  602. quoting something

  603. in the Old Testament.

  604. Showing these men

  605. how they really

  606. should have known

  607. and really should have

  608. understood their Scriptures

  609. and known this.

  610. That there was no marriage

  611. after.

  612. There's not.

  613. That I could tell.

  614. Someone please tell me

  615. if I'm wrong about that

  616. later.

  617. Not at this moment.

  618. But He's introducing

  619. some new theological

  620. information to the scene.

  621. But we know now

  622. what marriage is for.

  623. What is marriage

  624. meant to do?

  625. Why marriage?

  626. Marriage.

  627. We find out from

  628. Ephesians chapter 5

    Ephesians 5 chapter mention

  629. that marriage is

  630. prefigurative.

  631. It's a shadow.

  632. It's something meant

  633. to point to a greater thing.

  634. And that is our union

  635. with Christ.

  636. Imperfect people

  637. joining together

  638. to be made more perfect,

  639. to procreate.

  640. There are certainly

  641. some other,

  642. some subservient purposes

  643. for marriage.

  644. But the major purpose,

  645. the major reason

  646. that we are joined

  647. in union with one another

  648. is to show this picture

  649. of this relationship

  650. between Christ

  651. and the church.

  652. Let me read to you

  653. Ephesians 5

  654. beginning in verse 31.

  655. Therefore a man

  656. shall leave his father

  657. and mother

  658. and hold fast to his wife

  659. and the two

  660. shall become one flesh.

  661. This mystery is profound

  662. and I am saying

  663. that it refers

  664. to Christ

  665. and the church.

  666. We get to have

  667. a very clear understanding

  668. of this on this side.

  669. There's no need

  670. for marriage anymore

  671. once we're raised

  672. from the dead

  673. because we don't need

  674. it any longer.

  675. It's meant to be

  676. a picture,

  677. a snapshot

  678. of the real thing.

  679. Once we have

  680. the real thing,

  681. it's no longer

  682. necessary

  683. to be married.

  684. Now let's read

  685. a little bit more

  686. about resurrection.

  687. I mentioned

  688. Daniel 12, 2 to you.

  689. Let me read to you

  690. Daniel 12, 2

  691. and verse 3.

  692. And many of those

  693. who sleep

  694. in the dust of the earth

  695. shall awake,

  696. some to everlasting life

  697. and some to shame

  698. and everlasting contempt.

  699. And those who are wise

  700. shall shine

  701. like the brightness

  702. of the sky above.

  703. And those who turn

  704. many to righteousness

  705. like the stars

  706. forever and ever.

  707. So catch here

  708. the connection

  709. he's making

  710. as he's drawing

  711. this out for us.

  712. What marriage

  713. is meant for

  714. and that we are going

  715. to be like angels

  716. in heaven.

  717. From Daniel 12, 2 there,

  718. when we rise

  719. from the dead,

  720. we shall shine

  721. like the brightness

  722. of the sky above

  723. and those who turn

  724. many to righteousness

  725. like the stars

  726. forever and ever.

  727. And in the Old Testament

  728. when brightness

  729. is talked about,

  730. it's speaking of,

  731. it's referring to,

  732. it's referencing

  733. the glory of God.

  734. So when we rise,

  735. we'll be made perfect

  736. and glorify God

  737. forever.

  738. This is how we will be

  739. like the angels

  740. in heaven.

  741. The angels in heaven

  742. versus the angels

  743. not in heaven,

  744. those who were

  745. cast down,

  746. which are actually

  747. mentioned as stars,

  748. a third of the stars

  749. being cast down

  750. out of heaven.

  751. But the angels

  752. in heaven

  753. worship God

  754. perfectly forever.

  755. And this will be

  756. us.

  757. Nehemiah 9, 6

  758. says,

  759. You are the Lord,

  760. you alone.

  761. This is Israel's

  762. prayer of repentance

  763. found right in the

  764. middle of it.

  765. You have made heaven

  766. the heavens of heaven

  767. with all their host,

  768. the earth and all

  769. that is on it,

  770. the seas and all

  771. that is in them.

  772. And you preserve

  773. all of them

  774. and the host of heaven

  775. worships you,

  776. the angels in heaven

  777. forever and ever

  778. and ever.

  779. So there's this new

  780. theological information

  781. introduced to the scene

  782. to help us better

  783. understand.

  784. And Jesus is saying

  785. to them,

  786. you don't understand

  787. the scriptures

  788. and you don't know

  789. the power of God

  790. for resurrection.

  791. He more explicitly

  792. addresses it

  793. and brilliantly

  794. now uses

  795. their very text

  796. to make his points.

  797. And so now he quotes

  798. from the Pentateuch.

  799. And as for the dead

  800. being raised,

  801. have you not read

  802. in the book of Moses

  803. in the passage

  804. about the bush

  805. how God spoke to him

  806. saying,

  807. this is from Exodus

    Exodus 3 chapter mention

  808. chapter 3,

  809. I am the God of Abraham

  810. and the God of Isaac

  811. and the God of Jacob.

  812. Verse 27,

  813. He is not God of the dead

  814. but of the living.

  815. You see,

  816. as God is saying this

  817. to Moses,

  818. He's saying,

  819. I am and they are.

  820. I'm not worshipped

  821. by corpses.

  822. I am God.

  823. I am the God of Abraham.

  824. Abraham worships me.

  825. Abraham lives

  826. and he worships me.

  827. I am the God of Isaac.

  828. Isaac lives

  829. and he worships me.

  830. And I am the God of Jacob

  831. who lives

  832. and he worships me.

  833. I am and they are.

  834. Not that they were

  835. but that they are.

  836. So he is the God

  837. not of the dead

  838. but of the living.

  839. He totally deconstructs

  840. their entire idea

  841. of resurrection

  842. and what that means now

  843. for their lives.

  844. Totally destroys it.

  845. They come to humiliate him

  846. and he flips it around

  847. this double indictment

  848. and humiliates them

  849. in return.

  850. So what do we gain

  851. from a little story

  852. like this?

  853. A pericope.

  854. I have learned

  855. I was mispronouncing that

  856. as of recent.

  857. Not a pericope.

  858. A pericope.

  859. This little story.

  860. What is the application?

  861. What does it mean

  862. for us today?

  863. If the scriptures

  864. were written

  865. for this day

  866. and for us

  867. in this day

  868. what does this story

  869. mean for us?

  870. Three things

  871. I want to address.

  872. Firstly

  873. do not be

  874. like the Sadducees.

  875. Do not be

  876. like the Sadducees.

  877. Not knowing

  878. your scriptures

  879. or the power

  880. of God.

  881. We live in a very

  882. scripture rich

  883. environment.

  884. I don't know

  885. all of you in the room.

  886. In fact we have a number

  887. of guests with us today.

  888. I don't know

  889. if you have ever

  890. placed believing faith

  891. in Jesus Christ

  892. but it is likely

  893. it is most likely

  894. that you have heard

  895. the gospel.

  896. That you have

  897. had a copy

  898. of the scriptures.

  899. That you may have

  900. actually read

  901. the scriptures

  902. themselves.

  903. Don't be like

  904. the Sadducees.

  905. God himself

  906. has spoken.

  907. He has given us

  908. a book

  909. that we might

  910. know him

  911. and know the way

  912. of holiness.

  913. That we might

  914. turn from sin

  915. and pursue him.

  916. Do not be

  917. like the Sadducees.

  918. Having some degree

  919. of mental assent.

  920. Some understanding

  921. of it.

  922. And not allowing

  923. it to work

  924. into your heart.

  925. The Sadducees

  926. misunderstood

  927. the resurrection

  928. altogether.

  929. Christians understand

  930. it.

  931. We understand

  932. it to be

  933. true.

  934. And in fact

  935. if it's not true

  936. as the Sadducees

  937. believed

  938. we are people

  939. to be

  940. most

  941. pitied.

  942. Paul says this

  943. in 1 Corinthians

    1 Corinthians 15 chapter mention

  944. chapter 15

  945. For if the dead

  946. are not raised

  947. not even Christ

  948. has been raised.

  949. The Sadducees

  950. were right.

  951. If the dead

  952. aren't raised

  953. not even Christ

  954. has been raised.

  955. And if Christ

  956. has not been raised

  957. your faith

  958. is futile

  959. and you are still

  960. in your sins.

  961. Then those also

  962. who have fallen

  963. asleep in Christ

  964. have perished.

  965. The Sadducees

  966. were right.

  967. They're gone.

  968. If in Christ

  969. we have hope

  970. in this life

  971. only

  972. we are of all

  973. people

  974. most

  975. to be pitied.

  976. If our faith

  977. only means

  978. something for us

  979. now in this life

  980. and it does

  981. certainly

  982. but if that's

  983. it for us

  984. we are to be

  985. pitied

  986. as Christians

  987. if the resurrection

  988. is not true.

  989. Don't be like

  990. the Sadducees.

  991. Place believing

  992. faith in Christ.

  993. Believe in the

  994. resurrection.

  995. Believe that

  996. in Him

  997. there is

  998. life.

  999. Secondly

  1000. if you have

  1001. been saved

  1002. if you have

  1003. placed

  1004. saving faith

  1005. in Christ

  1006. you have

  1007. been saved

  1008. by grace

  1009. alone

  1010. through faith

  1011. alone

  1012. do not

  1013. be like

  1014. the Sadducees.

  1015. If you are

  1016. a Christian

  1017. do not

  1018. be

  1019. like the

  1020. Sadducees.

  1021. I'm afraid

  1022. that we

  1023. live in a

  1024. biblically

  1025. illiterate

  1026. time.

  1027. Copies of

  1028. God's Word

  1029. everywhere.

  1030. I've got a

  1031. hard copy of it

  1032. here in front

  1033. of me.

  1034. I can

  1035. pull up

  1036. on my

  1037. iPad

  1038. every

  1039. single

  1040. translation

  1041. imaginable

  1042. in a

  1043. matter

  1044. of

  1045. moments.

  1046. I've

  1047. got so

  1048. many

  1049. tools

  1050. practical

  1051. tools

  1052. at my

  1053. fingertips.

  1054. So

  1055. much

  1056. is

  1057. access

  1058. to

  1059. us.

  1060. We have

  1061. so

  1062. much

  1063. of the

  1064. Word

  1065. of

  1066. God

  1067. but

  1068. it

  1069. seems

  1070. that

  1071. so

  1072. many

  1073. of

  1074. us

  1075. know

  1076. it

  1077. very

  1078. little.

  1079. Just

  1080. really

  1081. don't

  1082. understand

  1083. the

  1084. scriptures.

  1085. It's

  1086. a

  1087. travesty

  1088. as

  1089. Christians

  1090. that we

  1091. wouldn't

  1092. know

  1093. the

  1094. Word

  1095. of

  1096. God.

  1097. We're

  1098. a

  1099. people

  1100. of

  1101. the

  1102. Word.

  1103. We

  1104. came

  1105. to

  1106. saving

  1107. faith

  1108. by

  1109. the

  1110. Word

  1111. of

  1112. God

  1113. preached

  1114. to

  1115. us.

  1116. This

  1117. is

  1118. the

  1119. way

  1120. in which

  1121. God

  1122. has

  1123. chosen

  1124. to

  1125. communicate

  1126. to

  1127. us.

  1128. Why

  1129. would

  1130. we

  1131. not

  1132. pour

  1133. over

  1134. this?

  1135. Why

  1136. would

  1137. we

  1138. not

  1139. know

  1140. every

  1141. bit

  1142. of

  1143. it?

  1144. So

  1145. that

  1146. we

  1147. can

  1148. be

  1149. obedient

  1150. to

  1151. it.

  1152. It's

  1153. a

  1154. massive

  1155. travesty.

  1156. On

  1157. Facebook

  1158. the

  1159. other

  1160. day,

  1161. a

  1162. very

  1163. good

  1164. friend

  1165. of

  1166. mine

  1167. from

  1168. the

  1169. past

  1170. and

  1171. been

  1172. around

  1173. him

  1174. that

  1175. much

  1176. as

  1177. of

  1178. late

  1179. attends

  1180. one

  1181. of

  1182. the

  1183. monolithic

  1184. places

  1185. south

  1186. of

  1187. us

  1188. wrote

  1189. a

  1190. little

  1191. thing

  1192. he

  1193. realized

  1194. and

  1195. learned

  1196. about

  1197. prayer

  1198. and

  1199. I

  1200. was

  1201. glad

  1202. that

  1203. he

  1204. did

  1205. I

  1206. praised

  1207. God

  1208. for

  1209. the

  1210. fact

  1211. that

  1212. he

  1213. realized

  1214. the

  1215. fact

  1216. that

  1217. he

  1218. came

  1219. to

  1220. some

  1221. understanding

  1222. of

  1223. what

  1224. prayer

  1225. is

  1226. and

  1227. what

  1228. it

  1229. does

  1230. in

  1231. the

  1232. life

  1233. of

  1234. a

  1235. Christian

  1236. glad

  1237. that

  1238. he

  1239. had

  1240. but

  1241. this

  1242. young

  1243. guy

  1244. had

  1245. grown

  1246. up

  1247. in

  1248. the

  1249. church

  1250. this

  1251. young

  1252. guy

  1253. volunteers

  1254. to

  1255. a

  1256. high

  1257. degree

  1258. in

  1259. the

  1260. place

  1261. that

  1262. he

  1263. currently

  1264. attends

  1265. and

  1266. had

  1267. totally

  1268. missed

  1269. it

  1270. had

  1271. not

  1272. been

  1273. taught

  1274. these

  1275. things

  1276. at

  1277. all

  1278. and

  1279. it

  1280. just

  1281. saddened

  1282. me

  1283. for

  1284. the

  1285. state

  1286. of

  1287. the

  1288. church

  1289. that

  1290. a

  1291. Christian

  1292. of

  1293. his

  1294. age

  1295. as

  1296. long

  1297. as

  1298. he

  1299. had

  1300. been

  1301. a

  1302. believer

  1303. was

  1304. just

  1305. now

  1306. understanding

  1307. how

  1308. it

  1309. was

  1310. that

  1311. prayer

  1312. works

  1313. in

  1314. the

  1315. life

  1316. of

  1317. a

  1318. Christian

  1319. just

  1320. made

  1321. me

  1322. sad

  1323. how

  1324. has

  1325. he

  1326. functioned

  1327. in

  1328. this

  1329. world

  1330. how

  1331. has

  1332. he

  1333. had

  1334. any

  1335. hope

  1336. at

  1337. all

  1338. that

  1339. God

  1340. hears

  1341. him

  1342. and

  1343. uses

  1344. his

  1345. prayers

  1346. to

  1347. accomplish

  1348. anything

  1349. whatsoever

  1350. I

  1351. don't

  1352. know

  1353. what

  1354. a

  1355. travesty

  1356. what

  1357. a

  1358. travesty

  1359. that

  1360. is

  1361. my

  1362. wife

  1363. was

  1364. at

  1365. a

  1366. yard

  1367. sale

  1368. yesterday

  1369. and

  1370. took

  1371. a

  1372. photo

  1373. of

  1374. a

  1375. little

  1376. knick

  1377. knack

  1378. you

  1379. know

  1380. older

  1381. people

  1382. like

  1383. knick

  1384. knacks

  1385. in

  1386. their

  1387. house

  1388. things

  1389. that

  1390. have

  1391. to

  1392. be

  1393. dusted

  1394. and

  1395. it

  1396. was

  1397. one

  1398. of

  1399. those

  1400. like

  1401. a

  1402. little

  1403. placard

  1404. thing

  1405. like

  1406. a

  1407. rock

  1408. that

  1409. had

  1410. words

  1411. engraved

  1412. into

  1413. it

  1414. and

  1415. said

  1416. this

  1417. God

  1418. could

  1419. not

  1420. be

  1421. everywhere

  1422. so

  1423. he

  1424. created

  1425. grandfathers

  1426. oh

  1427. that's

  1428. so sweet

  1429. right

  1430. it's

  1431. heresy

  1432. right

  1433. it's

  1434. absolute

  1435. heresy

  1436. this

  1437. is

  1438. not

  1439. a

  1440. thing

  1441. in

  1442. fact

  1443. in

  1444. retrospect

  1445. I

  1446. kind

  1447. of

  1448. wish

  1449. I

  1450. had

  1451. gotten

  1452. her

  1453. to

  1454. buy

  1455. it

  1456. so

  1457. we

  1458. could

  1459. have

  1460. gotten

  1461. away

  1462. from

  1463. anybody

  1464. else

  1465. and

  1466. destroyed

  1467. such

  1468. a

  1469. thing

  1470. God

  1471. could

  1472. not

  1473. be

  1474. everywhere

  1475. God

  1476. poor

  1477. little

  1478. God

  1479. little

  1480. pitiful

  1481. God

  1482. had

  1483. to

  1484. get

  1485. the

  1486. grandpas

  1487. to

  1488. help

  1489. him

  1490. out

  1491. in

  1492. this

  1493. thing

  1494. this

  1495. item

  1496. was

  1497. produced

  1498. and

  1499. it

  1500. was

  1501. sold

  1502. and

  1503. given

  1504. as

  1505. a

  1506. gift

  1507. and

  1508. hung

  1509. around

  1510. somebody

  1511. actually

  1512. had

  1513. this

  1514. thing

  1515. and

  1516. had

  1517. kept

  1518. this

  1519. thing

  1520. right

  1521. biblical

  1522. illiteracy

  1523. right

  1524. we live

  1525. in a

  1526. culture

  1527. of

  1528. consumption

  1529. we live

  1530. in a

  1531. day

  1532. and age

  1533. where we

  1534. just

  1535. want to

  1536. sit

  1537. back

  1538. and be

  1539. fed

  1540. information

  1541. just

  1542. give me

  1543. what I

  1544. need

  1545. to

  1546. know

  1547. just

  1548. tell

  1549. me

  1550. what

  1551. I

  1552. need

  1553. to

  1554. know

  1555. and

  1556. I'll

  1557. tell

  1558. you

  1559. right

  1560. now

  1561. beloved

  1562. Sunday

  1563. mornings

  1564. are

  1565. not

  1566. enough

  1567. for

  1568. you

  1569. know

  1570. God

  1571. and

  1572. know

  1573. him

  1574. by

  1575. his

  1576. word

  1577. it

  1578. is

  1579. not

  1580. enough

  1581. for

  1582. you

  1583. to

  1584. come

  1585. and

  1586. hear

  1587. a

  1588. sermon

  1589. on

  1590. Sunday

  1591. morning

  1592. as

  1593. much

  1594. as

  1595. I

  1596. like

  1597. to

  1598. pack

  1599. in

  1600. on

  1601. a

  1602. Sunday

  1603. morning

  1604. if

  1605. you

  1606. guys

  1607. would

  1608. permit

  1609. me

  1610. to

  1611. preach

  1612. for

  1613. hours

  1614. on

  1615. a

  1616. Sunday

  1617. morning

  1618. it

  1619. still

  1620. wouldn't

  1621. be

  1622. enough

  1623. for

  1624. me

  1625. to

  1626. give

  1627. to

  1628. you

  1629. everything

  1630. from

  1631. the

  1632. word

  1633. of

  1634. God

  1635. you

  1636. need

  1637. to

  1638. live

  1639. a

  1640. holy

  1641. life

  1642. you

  1643. need

  1644. it

  1645. daily

  1646. you

  1647. need

  1648. to

  1649. be

  1650. enriched

  1651. by

  1652. it

  1653. constantly

  1654. this

  1655. is

  1656. called

  1657. the

  1658. bread

  1659. of

  1660. life

  1661. right

  1662. feast

  1663. upon

  1664. it

  1665. right

  1666. you

  1667. need

  1668. to

  1669. be

  1670. taking

  1671. it

  1672. in

  1673. all

  1674. the

  1675. time

  1676. so

  1677. many

  1678. of

  1679. you

  1680. are

  1681. famished

  1682. because

  1683. you

  1684. have

  1685. a

  1686. meal

  1687. of

  1688. some

  1689. sort

  1690. I

  1691. hope

  1692. you're

  1693. even

  1694. paying

  1695. attention

  1696. and

  1697. taking

  1698. it

  1699. in

  1700. and

  1701. then

  1702. you

  1703. go

  1704. away

  1705. and

  1706. you

  1707. come

  1708. back

  1709. a

  1710. week

  1711. later

  1712. and

  1713. you

  1714. do

  1715. it

  1716. again

  1717. and

  1718. it's

  1719. not

  1720. having

  1721. any

  1722. real

  1723. effect

  1724. in

  1725. your

  1726. life

  1727. because

  1728. you're

  1729. !

  1730. you're

  1731. !

  1732. some

  1733. of

  1734. you

  1735. might

  1736. listen

  1737. to

  1738. some

  1739. supplemental

  1740. sermons

  1741. in

  1742. between

  1743. that's

  1744. not

  1745. enough

  1746. either

  1747. open

  1748. the

  1749. word

  1750. of

  1751. God

  1752. get

  1753. on

  1754. your

  1755. knees

  1756. and

  1757. ask

  1758. the

  1759. Lord

  1760. to

  1761. work

  1762. in

  1763. you

  1764. if

  1765. you're

  1766. a

  1767. Christian

  1768. you have

  1769. the

  1770. spirit

  1771. of

  1772. God

  1773. which

  1774. can

  1775. illuminate

  1776. the

  1777. scriptures

  1778. to

  1779. you

  1780. can

  1781. make

  1782. it

  1783. clear

  1784. to

  1785. you

  1786. it's

  1787. an

  1788. important

  1789. biblical

  1790. doctrine

  1791. the

  1792. clarity

  1793. of

  1794. scripture

  1795. you

  1796. can

  1797. understand

  1798. this

  1799. part

  1800. of

  1801. the

  1802. reason

  1803. that

  1804. I

  1805. out

  1806. loud

  1807. about

  1808. how

  1809. I

  1810. arrived

  1811. at

  1812. the

  1813. position

  1814. that

  1815. I

  1816. hold

  1817. is

  1818. because

  1819. I

  1820. want

  1821. you

  1822. to

  1823. see

  1824. that

  1825. it's

  1826. not

  1827. that

  1828. hard

  1829. I'm

  1830. not

  1831. brilliant

  1832. look

  1833. at

  1834. the

  1835. context

  1836. I go

  1837. isn't that

  1838. an interesting

  1839. statement

  1840. seems

  1841. confusing

  1842. at first

  1843. you hear

  1844. me say

  1845. things

  1846. like

  1847. that

  1848. because

  1849. I

  1850. know

  1851. that

  1852. happens

  1853. to

  1854. you

  1855. when

  1856. you

  1857. open

  1858. up

  1859. the

  1860. scriptures

  1861. you

  1862. go

  1863. what

  1864. in

  1865. the

  1866. world

  1867. I

  1868. do

  1869. it

  1870. all

  1871. the

  1872. time

  1873. often

  1874. the

  1875. things

  1876. many

  1877. times

  1878. but

  1879. I

  1880. never

  1881. had

  1882. to

  1883. preach

  1884. I

  1885. never

  1886. had

  1887. to

  1888. stand

  1889. up

  1890. with

  1891. any

  1892. authority

  1893. and

  1894. tell

  1895. you

  1896. what

  1897. it

  1898. means

  1899. and

  1900. I

  1901. just

  1902. honestly

  1903. can't

  1904. say

  1905. you

  1906. need

  1907. to be

  1908. doing

  1909. the

  1910. same

  1911. you

  1912. need

  1913. to be

  1914. constantly

  1915. in

  1916. the

  1917. Bible

  1918. consuming

  1919. it

  1920. 2

  1921. Timothy

  1922. 3

  1923. 16

  1924. 17

  1925. Paul

  1926. writes

  1927. all

  1928. scripture

  1929. is

  1930. breathed

  1931. out

  1932. by

  1933. God

  1934. and

  1935. profitable

  1936. it's

  1937. profitable

  1938. it's

  1939. good

  1940. for

  1941. us

  1942. for

  1943. teaching

  1944. for

  1945. reproof

  1946. for

  1947. correction

  1948. and

  1949. for

  1950. training

  1951. and

  1952. righteousness

  1953. that

  1954. the

  1955. man

  1956. of

  1957. God

  1958. or

  1959. woman

  1960. of

  1961. God

  1962. may

  1963. be

  1964. complete

  1965. equipped

  1966. for

  1967. every

  1968. good

  1969. work

  1970. if

  1971. you're

  1972. finding

  1973. that

  1974. there's

  1975. not

  1976. fruit

  1977. in

  1978. your

  1979. life

  1980. and

  1981. you

  1982. desire

  1983. that

  1984. you

  1985. want

  1986. to

  1987. see

  1988. God

  1989. use

  1990. your

  1991. efforts

  1992. in

  1993. this

  1994. world

  1995. you

  1996. need

  1997. to

  1998. be

  1999. equipped

  2000. by

  2001. the

  2002. word

  2003. of

  2004. God

  2005. to

  2006. that

  2007. great

  2008. end

  2009. be

  2010. equipped

  2011. for

  2012. every

  2013. good

  2014. work

  2015. it's

  2016. my

  2017. great

  2018. task

  2019. on

  2020. faithful

  2021. and

  2022. you

  2023. come

  2024. every

  2025. Sunday

  2026. that's

  2027. only

  2028. 52

  2029. chances

  2030. I get

  2031. to do

  2032. that

  2033. it's

  2034. not

  2035. enough

  2036. and

  2037. most

  2038. of

  2039. you

  2040. don't

  2041. make

  2042. it

  2043. that

  2044. often

  2045. to

  2046. our

  2047. meetings

  2048. together

  2049. so

  2050. don't

  2051. be

  2052. like

  2053. the

  2054. Pharisees

  2055. as

  2056. a

  2057. Christian

  2058. know

  2059. the

  2060. scriptures

  2061. you

  2062. can

  2063. do

  2064. it

  2065. start

  2066. now

  2067. I'm

  2068. still

  2069. working

  2070. it

  2071. out

  2072. right

  2073. I'm

  2074. never

  2075. going

  2076. to

  2077. arrive

  2078. at

  2079. a

  2080. complete

  2081. understanding

  2082. of

  2083. them

  2084. but

  2085. you

  2086. can

  2087. begin

  2088. to

  2089. let

  2090. God

  2091. by

  2092. the

  2093. father

  2094. to

  2095. speak

  2096. to

  2097. people

  2098. in

  2099. terms

  2100. they

  2101. will

  2102. understand

  2103. it's

  2104. really

  2105. important

  2106. for us

  2107. to

  2108. remember

  2109. every

  2110. time

  2111. we

  2112. behold

  2113. the

  2114. brilliance

  2115. of

  2116. Jesus

  2117. Christ

  2118. that

  2119. it

  2120. was

  2121. ultimately

  2122. the

  2123. brilliance

  2124. of

  2125. God

  2126. Jesus

  2127. did

  2128. not

  2129. stop

  2130. being

  2131. God

  2132. when

  2133. he

  2134. came

  2135. to

  2136. earth

  2137. and

  2138. became

  2139. a

  2140. man

  2141. he

  2142. didn't

  2143. lay

  2144. aside

  2145. his

  2146. deity

  2147. he

  2148. was

  2149. still

  2150. fully

  2151. God

  2152. fully

  2153. man

  2154. but

  2155. he

  2156. submitted

  2157. !

  2158. And in

  2159. John

  2160. 20

  2161. 21

  2162. he

  2163. says

  2164. as

  2165. the

  2166. father

  2167. has

  2168. sent

  2169. me

  2170. even

  2171. so

  2172. I

  2173. am

  2174. sending

  2175. you

  2176. so

  2177. Jesus

  2178. as a

  2179. man

  2180. he

  2181. knew

  2182. his

  2183. scriptures

  2184. he

  2185. had

  2186. studied

  2187. his

  2188. scriptures

  2189. we

  2190. find

  2191. him

  2192. at

  2193. the

  2194. age

  2195. of

  2196. 12

  2197. in

  2198. the

  2199. synagogue

  2200. teaching

  2201. the

  2202. teachers

  2203. of

  2204. the

  2205. synagogue

  2206. he

  2207. is

  2208. actually

  2209. telling

  2210. them

  2211. what

  2212. the

  2213. scriptures

  2214. mean

  2215. because

  2216. he

  2217. understood

  2218. them

  2219. we

  2220. can

  2221. do

  2222. this

  2223. we

  2224. can

  2225. gain

  2226. a

  2227. knowledge

  2228. of

  2229. the

  2230. scriptures

  2231. and

  2232. by

  2233. his

  2234. spirit

  2235. we

  2236. can

  2237. speak

  2238. we

  2239. can

  2240. submit

  2241. our

  2242. authority

  2243. to

  2244. his

  2245. authority

  2246. and

  2247. speak

  2248. well

  2249. to

  2250. people

  2251. and

  2252. we

  2253. have

  2254. to

  2255. understand

  2256. Jesus

  2257. was

  2258. a

  2259. master

  2260. of

  2261. this

  2262. and

  2263. we

  2264. should

  2265. take

  2266. example

  2267. from

  2268. him

  2269. he

  2270. understood

  2271. who

  2272. the

  2273. Sadducees

  2274. were

  2275. he

  2276. got

  2277. it

  2278. right

  2279. when

  2280. they

  2281. came

  2282. !

  2283. asking

  2284. !

  2285. the

  2286. question

  2287. that

  2288. they

  2289. quote

  2290. from

  2291. the

  2292. very

  2293. writings

  2294. that

  2295. they

  2296. esteemed

  2297. so

  2298. highly

  2299. to

  2300. make

  2301. his

  2302. point

  2303. and

  2304. we

  2305. should

  2306. do

  2307. the

  2308. same

  2309. doesn't

  2310. mean

  2311. that

  2312. we

  2313. become

  2314. these

  2315. master

  2316. tacticians

  2317. these

  2318. wonderful

  2319. orders

  2320. that we

  2321. study

  2322. and

  2323. study

  2324. and

  2325. we

  2326. pour

  2327. ourselves

  2328. into

  2329. apologetics

  2330. and

  2331. all

  2332. these

  2333. things

  2334. although

  2335. they

  2336. have

  2337. their

  2338. place

  2339. and

  2340. their

  2341. value

  2342. but

  2343. simply

  2344. that

  2345. we

  2346. empty

  2347. ourselves

  2348. or

  2349. fill

  2350. with

  2351. spirit

  2352. we

  2353. ask

  2354. that

  2355. he

  2356. would

  2357. work

  2358. through

  2359. us

  2360. ask

  2361. that

  2362. he

  2363. would

  2364. help

  2365. us

  2366. to

  2367. understand

  2368. people

  2369. and

  2370. where

  2371. they're

  2372. coming

  2373. from

  2374. their

  2375. viewpoints

  2376. so

  2377. that

  2378. we

  2379. can

  2380. speak

  2381. to

  2382. their

  2383. viewpoints

  2384. I

  2385. would

  2386. love

  2387. to

  2388. see

  2389. that

  2390. the

  2391. summation

  2392. of

  2393. this

  2394. story

  2395. is

  2396. that

  2397. all

  2398. the

  2399. Sadducees

  2400. that

  2401. came

  2402. to

  2403. him

  2404. realized

  2405. they're

  2406. wrong

  2407. repented

  2408. turned

  2409. to

  2410. him

  2411. that's

  2412. not

  2413. the

  2414. case

  2415. in

  2416. fact

  2417. it

  2418. was

  2419. the

  2420. Sadducees

  2421. that

  2422. were

  2423. part

  2424. of

  2425. !

  2426. !

  2427. !

  2428. We

  2429. have

  2430. such

  2431. a

  2432. precious

  2433. gift

  2434. in

  2435. the

  2436. scriptures

  2437. if

  2438. you're

  2439. not

  2440. a

  2441. believer

  2442. the

  2443. gospel

  2444. is

  2445. in

  2446. the

  2447. scriptures

  2448. the

  2449. power

  2450. of

  2451. God

  2452. unto

  2453. salvation

  2454. if

  2455. you

  2456. are

  2457. a

  2458. believer

  2459. oh

  2460. how

  2461. we

  2462. need

  2463. to

  2464. hear

  2465. that

  2466. story

  2467. over

  2468. and

  2469. over

  2470. and

  2471. over

  2472. again

  2473. many

  2474. of the

  2475. songs

  2476. we

  2477. sing

  2478. on

  2479. Sunday

  2480. morning

  2481. if

  2482. you're

  2483. not

  2484. very

  2485. familiar

  2486. with

  2487. the

  2488. scriptures

  2489. you

  2490. wouldn't

  2491. know

  2492. this

  2493. but

  2494. many

  2495. of

  2496. them

  2497. are

  2498. saturated

  2499. with

  2500. Old

  2501. Testament

  2502. and

  2503. New

  2504. Testament

  2505. quotations

  2506. just

  2507. carried

  2508. through

  2509. I

  2510. so

  2511. often

  2512. want

  2513. to

  2514. preach

  2515. little

  2516. sermons

  2517. in

  2518. between

  2519. songs

  2520. just

  2521. to

  2522. tie

  2523. it

  2524. all

  2525. together

  2526. for

  2527. you

  2528. and

  2529. they

  2530. talk

  2531. about

  2532. our

  2533. pre-Christ

  2534. experience

  2535. the

  2536. actual

  2537. conversion

  2538. and beyond

  2539. that

  2540. it's

  2541. why

  2542. most

  2543. hymns

  2544. we

  2545. should

  2546. sing

  2547. the

  2548. verses

  2549. because

  2550. it's

  2551. a

  2552. complete

  2553. gospel

  2554. presentation

  2555. in

  2556. those

  2557. things

  2558. oftentimes

  2559. first

  2560. third

  2561. and

  2562. fifth

  2563. just

  2564. doesn't

  2565. quite

  2566. cover

  2567. it

  2568. for

  2569. us

  2570. and

  2571. and

  2572. sometimes

  2573. I go

  2574. man

  2575. this

  2576. song

  2577. feels

  2578. like

  2579. it's

  2580. getting

  2581. really

  2582. long

  2583. but

  2584. if

  2585. you're

  2586. really

  2587. paying

  2588. attention

  2589. to

  2590. the

  2591. words

  2592. are

  2593. so

  2594. necessary

  2595. and

  2596. Wes

  2597. is

  2598. so

  2599. careful

  2600. to

  2601. do

  2602. that

  2603. for

  2604. us

  2605. that

  2606. we

  2607. see

  2608. this

  2609. entire

  2610. expression

  2611. of that

  2612. in

  2613. our

  2614. songs

  2615. together

  2616. beloved

  2617. we need

  2618. the

  2619. gospel

  2620. we need

  2621. it

  2622. every

  2623. day

  2624. we

  2625. need

  2626. to

  2627. be

  2628. reminded

  2629. of

  2630. God's

  2631. goodness

  2632. to

  2633. us

  2634. in

  2635. Christ

  2636. let's

  2637. pray

  2638. !
