  1. All right, please take your copy of God's Word out and turn to Paul's letter to the Colossians.

  2. !

  3. I hope not this morning.

  4. I will tell you that I struggled this week with finding the bearing of the text.

  5. Some months ago, I took the time to sit down and break apart the book of Colossians,

  6. leading up to a little bit of a break that I'm going to be taking here in a couple of weeks,

  7. and trying to keep us on pace so we can get to that point.

  8. For those who have volunteered to preach on my behalf and have given them text to deal with,

  9. I want to keep us moving along well.

  10. I certainly could make this into mini-sermons, not just one this morning.

  11. Our text is chapter 1, verse 28, through chapter 2, verse 3.

    Isaiah 1:28

  12. And I really, I worked, I mean, I had tons of notes.

  13. I've worked it and worked it and worked it,

  14. and I finally saw that it's really a continuation of our look at Paul's ministry.

  15. And some of this began to coalesce for me this morning at about 4 a.m.

  16. So this is, it's 11 o'clock now.

  17. This is like a 1 o'clock in the afternoon sermon for me.

  18. Hopefully, I'll keep the energy high for you.

  19. Two weeks ago, we looked in Colossians 1, 21 through 23,

  20. where Paul states that he has become a minister of the gospel of reconciliation.

  21. He's now going on to elaborate more on what that ministry looks like.

  22. Last week, we began to look at the ministry itself, and we had two points.

  23. Firstly, the aim of Paul's ministry.

  24. And secondly, the means of Paul's ministry.

  25. So join me in looking at your text, Colossians 1, and let me read to you 24 through 27,

  26. before we get to our text today.

  27. Paul writes,

  28. Now I rejoice in my sufferings for your sake,

  29. and in my flesh I am filling up what is lacking in Christ's affliction for the sake of His body,

  30. that is, the church,

  31. of which I became a minister according to the stewardship from God that was given to me for you,

  32. to make the Word of God fully known,

  33. the mystery hidden for ages and generations, but now revealed to His saints.

  34. To them God chose to make known how great among the Gentiles are the riches of the glory of this mystery,

  35. which is Christ in you, the hope of glory.

  36. And so today will be sort of a part two of this as we continue to look at Paul's ministry

  37. and give application from his ministry for our daily living.

  38. Our text for today, Colossians 1, 28 through 23.

  39. Him we proclaim, warning everyone and teaching everyone with all wisdom,

  40. that we may present everyone mature in Christ.

  41. For this I toil, struggling with all His energy that He powerfully works within me.

  42. For I want you to know how great a struggle I have for you and for those at Laodicea,

  43. and for all who have not seen me face to face,

  44. that their hearts may be encouraged, being knit together in love,

  45. to reach all the riches of full assurance of understanding,

  46. and the knowledge of God's mystery, which is Christ,

  47. in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.

  48. This is God's Word to us.

  49. It was written for our good and His glory.

  50. We would all do well to listen to it in order to believe its promises

  51. and obey its commands.

  52. So I'll give you a bit of the outline for today's sermon.

  53. As I said last week, we looked at the aim of Paul's ministry.

  54. Secondly, at the means of Paul's ministry, verses 24 through 27.

  55. Today I'm going to add points to that.

  56. So the third point, or first if you prefer,

  57. would be the work of Paul's ministry.

  58. Fourthly, or secondly, the strength of Paul's ministry.

  59. And fifthly, the aim of Paul's ministry further developed.

  60. An expansion of this idea that we looked back at last week.

  61. Now I'm going to switch into points 3, 4, and 5 so as not to confuse you back and forth.

  62. But that's what I'm doing.

  63. You didn't miss point 1 and 2 unless you were not here last week.

  64. So point number 3.

  65. The work of Paul's ministry.

  66. And we see this in verse 28.

  67. Him we proclaim.

  68. Who is the Him?

  69. It is Jesus Christ.

  70. It was mentioned just before this in verse 27.

  71. Christ in you, the hope of glory.

  72. Him we proclaim.

  73. Paul's driving desire was to proclaim Him,

  74. the hope of glory,

  75. who had done so much on His behalf.

  76. Who had rescued Him from His apostate Judaism.

  77. Who had delivered Him from His sin.

  78. It's Paul's desire to proclaim Him.

  79. Proclaim means to publicly declare.

  80. Here in the Greek, it is a general term,

  81. and it is not restricted to formal preaching.

  82. Not restricted.

  83. All preaching is proclamation.

  84. Not all proclamation is preaching.

  85. And this will be important in just a moment.

  86. Remember that all preaching is proclamation.

  87. Not all proclamation is preaching.

  88. And Paul says,

  89. Him we proclaim.

  90. And presumably, he's referring to himself and Timothy.

  91. If you recall that the salvation of the Colossians,

  92. excuse me,

  93. this letter to the Colossians,

  94. the salutation,

  95. darn you autocorrect,

  96. is addressed from them both.

  97. Verse 1, he says,

  98. I, Paul, and Timothy, our brother.

  99. And this is likely the we he's referring to here.

  100. And there is two aspects of their proclamation.

  101. There's one negative and one positive.

  102. Or stated in the negative,

  103. the warning that he says here.

  104. We proclaim warning everyone.

  105. Some of your translations may say admonishing.

  106. Warning or admonishing.

  107. This is encouraging counsel in view of sin and coming punishment.

  108. This is a warning to flee from the wrath to come,

  109. stated in the negative.

  110. In the positive,

  111. there is teaching happening as well.

  112. Not this, but this.

  113. Imparting truth in their ministry.

  114. So they're warning everyone

  115. and they're teaching everyone

  116. with all wisdom.

  117. Wisdom can be rightly understood

  118. as a practical discernment.

  119. Taking those things that we see as true

  120. and giving them good and practical application

  121. in our lives.

  122. I like this little equation

  123. that my father has taught me across the years.

  124. That knowledge plus understanding

  125. equals wisdom.

  126. It's one thing to know something.

  127. It's another thing to know

  128. what to do with that thing

  129. that is known.

  130. So you can know

  131. that a tomato is a fruit,

  132. but it's really important to know

  133. that a tomato should not go

  134. in a fruit salad.

  135. Knowing the proper application,

  136. like a BLT,

  137. would be knowledge plus understanding.

  138. And then you're wise about the tomato.

  139. Sometimes my off-the-cuff analogies

  140. just don't play out.

  141. Paul wrote in 2 Timothy 3, 16 and 17,

  142. All scripture is breathed out by God

  143. and profitable for teaching,

  144. for reproof,

  145. for correction,

  146. and for training in righteousness,

  147. that the man of God may be complete,

  148. equipped for every good work.

  149. So how is it that we give

  150. this type of teaching?

  151. This proclamation that they're giving

  152. is being done

  153. by the Scriptures.

  154. The tool that's granted to us,

  155. for us to proclaim,

  156. warning everyone,

  157. teaching everyone,

  158. with all wisdom.

  159. Paul says,

  160. we proclaim,

  161. speaking of himself and of Timothy,

  162. and this certainly,

  163. what he's referring to here,

  164. is the job of church leaders.

  165. There's a work to be done in this way,

  166. this proclamation,

  167. warning,

  168. and teaching.

  169. We can see both aspects,

  170. the negative and the positive,

  171. in the Scriptures.

  172. To warn in Acts 20, 31,

  173. Paul describes his ministry at Ephesus.

  174. He writes,

  175. Therefore,

  176. be alert,

  177. remembering that for three years

  178. I did not cease,

  179. night or day,

  180. to admonish or warn

  181. everyone with tears.

  182. The church leaders

  183. are also supposed to teach.

  184. Paul writes to Timothy

  185. in 1 Timothy 3, 2,

  186. concerning the qualities

  187. of an elder in a church,

  188. that an overseer

  189. must be able to teach.

  190. So it is certainly

  191. the job of church leaders,

  192. but we must be very careful

  193. at this point

  194. that we don't exclude ourselves

  195. from this ministry.

  196. Because while it's the job

  197. of church leaders,

  198. it is also the job

  199. of every disciple

  200. of Jesus Christ.

  201. Remember,

  202. as I said to you before,

  203. proclamation is not restricted

  204. to formal teaching.

  205. This point's driven by Paul

  206. later in the letter,

  207. Colossians 3, 16,

  208. the first part of it,

  209. where he says,

  210. let the word of Christ

  211. dwell in you richly.

  212. Listen to the words.

  213. Teaching and admonishing

  214. or warning one another

  215. in all wisdom.

  216. So if you think that potentially

  217. the text for today

  218. is merely talking about

  219. the responsibility of Paul

  220. and his ministry to the churches,

  221. which I could give you that here,

  222. he certainly broadens

  223. the scope of the exhortation

  224. later on in chapter 3,

  225. verse 16.

  226. Let the word of Christ dwell in you,

  227. you believers,

  228. you Colossian disciples,

  229. teaching and admonishing

  230. one another in all wisdom.

  231. In other places,

  232. Acts 8, 3-4,

  233. we get a great example

  234. of proclamation going forth

  235. from the early church.

  236. This is just after

  237. the stoning of Stephen,

  238. if you are familiar with that.

  239. In verse 3 of chapter 8,

  240. it says,

  241. But Saul,

  242. pre-conversion Paul,

  243. Saul was ravaging the church

  244. and entering house after house,

  245. he dragged off men and women

  246. and committed them to prison.

  247. So this great persecution arose

  248. on the early church

  249. and it caused people

  250. to be scattered.

  251. Listen to what verse 4 says.

  252. Now those who were scattered

  253. went about preaching the word.

  254. A very similar,

  255. not the exact same word here

  256. used for proclamation,

  257. but it carries with it

  258. the idea of gossiping

  259. the word of God.

  260. They were going about

  261. telling people about Jesus

  262. as they were scattered.

  263. Saul, even here,

  264. is used by God

  265. to advance the church

  266. across the known world

  267. of time.

  268. Again, we see both sides

  269. of this stated in the negative

  270. and stated in the positive

  271. for all believers.

  272. We are to warn

  273. or admonish one another.

  274. Paul read to the Thessalonian believers

  275. in 2 Thessalonians 3, 14 and 15.

  276. If anyone does not obey

  277. what we say in this letter,

  278. take note of that person

  279. and have nothing to do with them

  280. that he may be ashamed.

  281. Do not regard him as an enemy,

  282. but warn him as a brother.

  283. We are meant to work together

  284. and minister the word of God

  285. to one another.

  286. We are meant to bring correction

  287. to one another.

  288. Beloved, it is our job

  289. as a church to hold each other

  290. accountable to the standard

  291. of Scripture.

  292. We need to call a spade a spade.

  293. We need to say,

  294. you cannot live in this way

  295. and let me show you

  296. by God's holy writ

  297. why you cannot.

  298. You must be brought

  299. into line with this.

  300. This is the great practice

  301. of church discipline

  302. which happens not just

  303. at a church leadership level,

  304. but it's happening all the time

  305. if we're a healthy

  306. and vibrant church.

  307. We are to warn

  308. those who are around us

  309. who think they're believers

  310. and may not be.

  311. Or those who certainly

  312. are believers,

  313. but they think that they

  314. can persist in sin

  315. and that there will be

  316. no consequence for said sin.

  317. It's the loving and right thing

  318. for us to do with one another.

  319. We are to warn

  320. or admonish one another.

  321. We're also meant to teach.

  322. Jesus gives to us

  323. in Matthew 28, 19-20

  324. what is most commonly called

  325. the Great Commission

  326. where He says,

  327. Go therefore and make disciples

  328. of all nations,

  329. baptizing them in the name

  330. of the Father and the Son

  331. and the Holy Spirit,

  332. teaching them to observe

  333. all that I have commanded you.

  334. This is the mission,

  335. the commission given to the church.

  336. Not just church leaders,

  337. but all of those

  338. who are part of the family of God.

  339. We are to be teaching one another.

  340. I know that many of you

  341. may feel inadequate for such a task,

  342. but all of you have something

  343. to impart to somebody else.

  344. If you are in fact a Christian,

  345. you have the Spirit of God within you.

  346. You are an expression of God's grace.

  347. I need you.

  348. I just can't tell you

  349. how much I need you.

  350. I am in no way

  351. on some kind of a platform

  352. elevated above you figuratively.

  353. I need you.

  354. I need your perspective.

  355. I need to learn

  356. how God is working in your life.

  357. I need to see fresh pictures

  358. of the way that Jesus Christ

  359. is bringing about redemption

  360. in your life.

  361. It is encouraging to me

  362. wherever you are

  363. in your walk with Christ

  364. to see that you're walking.

  365. We need one another.

  366. And this activity,

  367. all of this activity

  368. of admonishing, warning,

  369. and teaching,

  370. and all wisdom

  371. is in order that

  372. they and we

  373. may present everyone

  374. mature in Christ.

  375. This is the goal

  376. of the Christian ministry.

  377. That the saints

  378. would be mature

  379. in their faith.

  380. That they would

  381. properly yield fruit

  382. as a result

  383. of their maturity.

  384. A passage that I hope

  385. is very familiar to you.

  386. Ephesians 4,

    Ephesians 4:11–13

  387. verses 11-13.

  388. Listen carefully.

  389. And He, being Christ,

  390. gave the apostles,

  391. the prophets,

  392. the evangelists,

  393. the shepherds and teachers

  394. to equip the saints

  395. for the work of ministry

  396. for building up

  397. the body of Christ.

  398. Until we all attain

  399. to the unity of the faith

  400. and of the knowledge

  401. of the Son of God

  402. to mature manhood,

  403. to the measure

  404. of the stature

  405. of the fullness

  406. of Christ.

  407. And so you'll see

  408. that Jesus Christ

  409. gave gifts to the church

  410. that those leaders

  411. may work

  412. to build up the body

  413. for the work

  414. of ministry,

  415. which is the building

  416. up of the body.

  417. You see the language here.

  418. To equip the saints

  419. for the work of ministry.

  420. What is that work?

  421. For the building up

  422. of the body of Christ.

  423. All of us play a part

  424. into this

  425. until we all attain

  426. the unity of the faith

  427. and the knowledge

  428. of the Son of God

  429. to mature manhood.

  430. This is the desire

  431. of Epaphras.

  432. Epaphras is likely

  433. the man who established

  434. the church in Colossae.

  435. It was not Paul.

  436. It was Epaphras

  437. who probably received

  438. the Gospel in Ephesus

  439. and carried it back

  440. to Colossae.

  441. Look at his desire

  442. in Colossians 4.12.

  443. Paul writes,

  444. Epaphras,

  445. who is one of you,

  446. a servant of Christ Jesus,

  447. greets you,

  448. always struggling

  449. on your behalf

  450. in his prayers

  451. that you may stand mature

  452. and fully assured

  453. in all the will of God.

  454. His great desire

  455. for the church

  456. as he's not with them,

  457. as he's currently

  458. with Paul,

  459. likely in his Roman imprisonment,

  460. is that the church

  461. that he loves,

  462. the place that he's from,

  463. would be mature

  464. and fully assured

  465. in the will of God.

  466. It's probable

  467. that a praxis

  468. actually traveled

  469. to be with Paul

  470. because of the heresies

  471. that are encircling

  472. and are within this church

  473. in this time.

  474. This letter seems to be written

  475. to address these particular things.

  476. We don't know the exact nature

  477. of the heresies,

  478. but likely Epaphras said,

  479. I don't know how to address

  480. these things,

  481. but Paul will know.

  482. Maybe I could get him

  483. to write a letter

  484. and set some of these things straight.

  485. So his great desire

  486. is that they be mature

  487. in Christ.

  488. So the work of Paul's ministry

  489. was to warn and teach everyone

  490. concerning coming judgment

  491. and the way of salvation

  492. in order that those

  493. he ministered to

  494. would become mature

  495. in Christ.

  496. And this is also

  497. the work of our ministry.

  498. You have a part

  499. to play

  500. in the sanctification

  501. of the saints.

  502. We need you.

  503. If you're not a part

  504. of this church,

  505. someone needs you.

  506. A fellowship of Christ

  507. needs you.

  508. There's limited capacity

  509. of individuals.

  510. I don't know how many of you

  511. know me very well,

  512. but something that you

  513. should know about me

  514. is that I'm extremely introverted.

  515. I really don't like

  516. being in the spotlight,

  517. literally and figuratively.

  518. It's not really the place

  519. I enjoy playing.

  520. If I've ever insulted you

  521. unintentionally

  522. because I walked by you

  523. on a Sunday morning,

  524. it's because I've recessed

  525. into my head

  526. and I've got something

  527. on my mind

  528. and I just zip right past you.

  529. I don't mean to do this thing.

  530. I don't mean to insult you,

  531. but it's the way

  532. that God has made me.

  533. I have to work hard.

  534. I have to rely deeply

  535. on his grace

  536. to be open

  537. and be with you

  538. and to impart myself to you.

  539. It's a difficult thing for me.

  540. Very small capacity,

  541. I think,

  542. for relationship.

  543. Some of you have more capacity.

  544. For relationship.

  545. Some of you

  546. are incredibly extroverted.

  547. You absolutely exhaust me

  548. with your extroversion.

  549. It's astounding to me.

  550. Absolutely astounding to me.

  551. But what a beautiful picture

  552. of the way in which

  553. God brings us together

  554. and gives us varying gifting.

  555. But whether you're extremely introverted

  556. or extremely extroverted,

  557. we all have some capacity

  558. for deep relationship

  559. because we have

  560. only so much time

  561. in our days.

  562. In deep relationship,

  563. meaningful relationship

  564. takes time.

  565. It's a necessity of it.

  566. We have to work at it.

  567. In an article published

  568. in Psychology Today,

  569. this is a secular article,

  570. British anthropologist

  571. Robin Dunbar

  572. wrote a book called

  573. How Many Friends

  574. Does One Person Need?

  575. And in it,

  576. he argues that

  577. you can only keep friendships

  578. with about 150 people

  579. at any given time

  580. because,

  581. quote,

  582. Don't ask me to explain

  583. what that means.

  584. And,

  585. this in turn

  586. limits group size

  587. where stable

  588. interpersonal relationships

  589. can be maintained,

  590. end quote.

  591. Dunbar says

  592. his number of 150,

  593. quote,

  594. refers to those people

  595. with whom you have

  596. a personalized relationship,

  597. one that is reciprocal

  598. and based around

  599. general obligations

  600. of trust

  601. and reciprocity,

  602. end quote.

  603. There's just only so much

  604. we can handle.

  605. Social media is making

  606. this more difficult for us

  607. because now we have

  608. so many friends.

  609. We're not really,

  610. by this definition,

  611. friends with any of them.

  612. We're very wide

  613. and not very deep

  614. with our relationships

  615. these days.

  616. It makes it very difficult

  617. to be devoted to people

  618. when you feel like

  619. so many people

  620. expect so much of you.

  621. It seems that you just

  622. can't make anybody

  623. happy.

  624. And what I'm positing to you

  625. is that our problem

  626. is that we're extending

  627. ourselves way too far

  628. because some people

  629. don't extend themselves

  630. at all.

  631. There are too few people

  632. in many churches,

  633. including ours,

  634. that do a lot of work.

  635. And it's difficult to do well

  636. because of the limit of time.

  637. But if we would all be involved

  638. and engaged in these processes,

  639. we could easily

  640. manage the load.

  641. This article goes on to say,

  642. our theoretical circle of 150

  643. is not a homogenous social group.

  644. That is to say that it's not 150

  645. and they all interact

  646. just with each other.

  647. Right?

  648. There's a lot of overlapping

  649. in our spheres of influence.

  650. Dunbar explains,

  651. but rather consists of four layers

  652. or, quote,

  653. circles of acquaintanceship,

  654. end quote,

  655. which scale relative to each other

  656. by a factor of three.

  657. I don't know what that means.

  658. An inner core of five intimates

  659. and then successive layers

  660. of 15, 50,

  661. and 150.

  662. Oh, now I know what it means.

  663. With each successive circle,

  664. the number of people included

  665. increases,

  666. but the emotional intimacy

  667. decreases.

  668. You get what he's saying.

  669. You can only be so close

  670. to so few

  671. and you can know these people

  672. on some degree

  673. and you can know the names

  674. of people out here

  675. or recognize their faces.

  676. Right?

  677. But there's a reality to this.

  678. The way that we're designed,

  679. the way that we're geared,

  680. is that we can only do

  681. so much

  682. with so many.

  683. We have to get this.

  684. I can't minister personally

  685. to each and every one of you.

  686. It's an impossibility.

  687. My wife

  688. can't minister individually

  689. to each and every one

  690. of the women

  691. in this church.

  692. It's an absolute impossibility.

  693. And if we try,

  694. we will most certainly

  695. die.

  696. I didn't mean to rhyme that,

  697. but that's the word

  698. that popped into my head.

  699. It's just too,

  700. it's too much.

  701. We get spread too thin.

  702. And there's a great deal

  703. of challenge,

  704. and Sam and I talk about

  705. this much,

  706. that we really feel like

  707. we don't do anybody

  708. any real service

  709. because we're spread too thin.

  710. We can't really devote

  711. ourselves to anybody.

  712. And what that means

  713. for this church

  714. and any church

  715. that you may be a part of,

  716. whether you're a guest here today

  717. or just across your life,

  718. that you need to invest yourself

  719. in people.

  720. So this is the work

  721. of Paul's ministry.

  722. And it's our work

  723. as well.

  724. Let's look fourthly

  725. at the strength

  726. of Paul's ministry.

  727. Verse 29.

  728. For this I toil,

  729. struggling with all

  730. his energy

  731. that he powerfully works

  732. within me.

  733. For this,

  734. the things that were

  735. aforementioned

  736. in the text,

  737. right?

  738. Him we proclaim,

  739. warning everyone

  740. and teaching everyone

  741. with all wisdom

  742. that we may present

  743. everyone mature in Christ.

  744. To this end,

  745. I toil.

  746. The word toil

  747. means to work

  748. to the point

  749. of exhaustion.

  750. Struggling.

  751. This word here,

  752. we get our English word

  753. for agonized,

  754. derived from the Greek word

  755. for struggling here.

  756. To work

  757. and to struggle

  758. to this end.

  759. What I would say to you

  760. is that no one

  761. can faithfully serve

  762. Jesus Christ

  763. without working hard.

  764. And there's a great deal

  765. of apathy in the church.

  766. A great deal of laziness

  767. in the church.

  768. Christians should be

  769. the busiest people

  770. on the planet

  771. because we work

  772. in weighty matters.

  773. Now,

  774. don't hear me saying to you

  775. that it's not okay

  776. to rest at times.

  777. It is.

  778. It's good and important.

  779. To work hard,

  780. you have to rest

  781. or else you'll run yourself

  782. into the ground.

  783. But we should be

  784. the busiest people

  785. because the things

  786. that we're to be about

  787. have great eternal weight.

  788. They matter

  789. in eternity.

  790. We're not simply

  791. building businesses

  792. and making money.

  793. We're not simply

  794. storing things away.

  795. Stuff that's all

  796. turning to dust.

  797. We're dealing with

  798. eternal things.

  799. We must work hard.

  800. There's a mandate

  801. placed upon us

  802. as Christian people

  803. to do so.

  804. But we must do so

  805. by the strength

  806. that God works in us.

  807. The power of Paul's ministry

  808. was not in his education,

  809. a brilliant man,

  810. or his cultural heritage,

  811. in his preaching prowess,

  812. or in his charisma.

  813. ministries built

  814. on these types of things

  815. are absolutely doomed

  816. to fail

  817. or meet some measure

  818. of success

  819. that's not a measure

  820. that God would use.

  821. Paul relied on

  822. God's energy

  823. that he powerfully

  824. worked within.

  825. And he kind of stacks

  826. these descriptors up.

  827. God's energy

  828. that he powerfully

  829. works within me.

  830. And this doesn't mean

  831. in proportion with.

  832. I work and I labor

  833. in proportion with

  834. the energy

  835. that God gives me.

  836. Paul's not talking

  837. about measures of grace

  838. given in gifting

  839. to the church.

  840. He rather means

  841. I work with

  842. or by means of

  843. in reliance upon

  844. God's power.

  845. The things that I'm doing

  846. don't happen

  847. apart from

  848. God's work

  849. in me.

  850. 1 Corinthians 15.10

  851. Paul writes,

  852. But by the grace of God

  853. I am what I am

  854. and his grace towards me

  855. was not in vain.

  856. On the contrary

  857. I worked harder

  858. than any of them

  859. though it was not I

  860. but the grace of God

  861. that is with me.

  862. Philippians 2.12-13

  863. I love these types of texts

  864. that so

  865. he so carefully

  866. weaves together

  867. our responsibility

  868. and God's sovereign strength

  869. in our lives.

  870. Philippians 2.12-13

  871. Therefore my beloved

  872. as you have always obeyed

  873. so now

  874. not only in my presence

  875. but much more

  876. in my absence

  877. work out your own salvation

  878. with fear

  879. and trembling

  880. for it is God

  881. who works in you

  882. both to will

  883. and to work

  884. for his good pleasure.

  885. Sam Storms

  886. in the Hope of Glory

  887. said it like this

  888. Apart from the

  889. conscience

  890. consistent

  891. concentrated reliance

  892. on the power of God

  893. burnout

  894. is a sure

  895. thing.

  896. You try to

  897. operate

  898. under your own strength

  899. for all of this

  900. ministry

  901. that we are

  902. we are meant

  903. to be doing

  904. this call

  905. that's laid upon

  906. our lives

  907. as a body

  908. of Christ

  909. burnout

  910. is a

  911. sure

  912. thing.

  913. So

  914. how do we

  915. consciously

  916. consistently

  917. and

  918. concentratedly

  919. rely

  920. on the power

  921. of God?

  922. How do we do

  923. this thing

  924. that Sam Storms

  925. is suggesting

  926. that we do?

  927. Paul gives us

  928. a clue

  929. to that

  930. chapter 3

  931. verse 16

  932. this letter

  933. to the

  934. Colossians

  935. I mentioned

  936. it previously

  937. let the word

  938. of Christ

  939. dwell

  940. in you

  941. richly

  942. let the word

  943. of Christ

  944. dwell

  945. in you

  946. richly

  947. fam

  948. we need

  949. to be

  950. studying

  951. this book

  952. and knowing

  953. it

  954. I fear

  955. that too

  956. often

  957. this book

  958. is just

  959. a book

  960. amongst

  961. a knot

  962. of other

  963. books

  964. I've got

  965. a whole

  966. study

  967. downstairs

  968. just full

  969. of books

  970. too many

  971. books

  972. to even

  973. handle

  974. my father

  975. gifted me

  976. his library

  977. I've got

  978. books in

  979. boxes

  980. I don't

  981. even know

  982. what they

  983. are

  984. there's

  985. so many

  986. of them

  987. and the

  988. great danger

  989. is that we

  990. put the

  991. Bible up

  992. on that

  993. shelf

  994. with all

  995. of the

  996. others

  997. and we

  998. hold it

  999. in the

  1000. same

  1001. regard

  1002. this is

  1003. God's

  1004. word

  1005. to us

  1006. and beyond

  1007. that

  1008. the spirit

  1009. of God

  1010. uses the

  1011. word of

  1012. God

  1013. to affect

  1014. us

  1015. this is

  1016. the tool

  1017. that he

  1018. uses

  1019. as Wes

  1020. mentioned

  1021. previously

  1022. the sword

  1023. sharper

  1024. than a

  1025. two-edged

  1026. sword

  1027. this is the

  1028. way in

  1029. which the

  1030. spirit

  1031. affects us

  1032. not through

  1033. our

  1034. feelings

  1035. right

  1036. but through

  1037. the word

  1038. of God

  1039. knowing

  1040. his word

  1041. J.I.

  1042. Packer said

  1043. well the

  1044. holy spirit's

  1045. ordinary way

  1046. of working

  1047. in us

  1048. is through

  1049. the working

  1050. of our

  1051. own minds

  1052. and wills

  1053. he moves

  1054. us to act

  1055. by causing

  1056. us to see

  1057. reasons for

  1058. moving

  1059. ourselves

  1060. to act

  1061. read that

  1062. last sentence

  1063. to you

  1064. again

  1065. he moves

  1066. us to

  1067. act

  1068. by causing

  1069. us to

  1070. see reasons

  1071. for moving

  1072. ourselves

  1073. to act

  1074. that we

  1075. know the

  1076. scriptures

  1077. that we

  1078. have an

  1079. eternal

  1080. perspective

  1081. that we

  1082. see things

  1083. from where

  1084. God

  1085. stands

  1086. that we

  1087. recognize

  1088. who he

  1089. is and

  1090. how he's

  1091. working

  1092. in the

  1093. world

  1094. we have

  1095. this

  1096. biblical

  1097. world view

  1098. not one

  1099. that's caught

  1100. up in the

  1101. momentary

  1102. pleasures

  1103. but in the

  1104. long lasting

  1105. in the

  1106. eternal

  1107. things

  1108. it makes

  1109. it easy

  1110. for us

  1111. to make

  1112. decisions

  1113. about

  1114. our money

  1115. as an

  1116. example

  1117. I want to

  1118. store it for

  1119. myself

  1120. Trevor

  1121. in heaven

  1122. if I

  1123. know this

  1124. to be

  1125. true

  1126. the

  1127. spirit

  1128. works

  1129. it in

  1130. me

  1131. he

  1132. changes

  1133. my

  1134. desires

  1135. to

  1136. desire

  1137. the

  1138. things

  1139. that

  1140. God

  1141. desires

  1142. he wants

  1143. me to

  1144. gain more

  1145. of him

  1146. to know

  1147. him

  1148. more

  1149. that one

  1150. day I'll

  1151. know him

  1152. forever

  1153. we gotta

  1154. know

  1155. the

  1156. scripture

  1157. we have

  1158. to make

  1159. ourselves

  1160. available

  1161. for the

  1162. application

  1163. of the

  1164. scripture

  1165. in our

  1166. lives

  1167. and I'll

  1168. talk a

  1169. bit more

  1170. about our

  1171. minds

  1172. and hearts

  1173. in the

  1174. next point

  1175. to further

  1176. drive the

  1177. point of

  1178. Paul's

  1179. labor

  1180. chapter 2

  1181. verse 1

  1182. he writes

  1183. for I want

  1184. you to know

  1185. how great a

  1186. struggle I

  1187. have for you

  1188. that word

  1189. struggle again

  1190. and for

  1191. those at

  1192. Laodicea

  1193. and for

  1194. all who

  1195. have not

  1196. seen me

  1197. face to

  1198. face

  1199. again

  1200. Paul had

  1201. never

  1202. visited

  1203. the

  1204. Colossian

  1205. church

  1206. he also

  1207. had not

  1208. the

  1209. Laodicean

  1210. church

  1211. and there

  1212. were others

  1213. right

  1214. the gospel

  1215. was having

  1216. its effect

  1217. apart from

  1218. Paul

  1219. God was

  1220. moving and

  1221. working in

  1222. the known

  1223. world

  1224. apart from

  1225. Paul's

  1226. ministry

  1227. but he

  1228. finds himself

  1229. having a

  1230. struggle for

  1231. them as

  1232. well

  1233. right

  1234. having a

  1235. great and

  1236. deep concern

  1237. for the

  1238. church

  1239. I want to

  1240. show you a

  1241. wonderful

  1242. scriptural

  1243. example of

  1244. this

  1245. if you

  1246. will turn

  1247. with me

  1248. to 2nd

  1249. Corinthians

  1250. chapter 11

  1251. I'll

  1252. begin reading

  1253. in verse

  1254. 23

  1255. are they

  1256. servants of

  1257. Christ

  1258. I am a

  1259. better one

  1260. he says I

  1261. am talking

  1262. like a

  1263. madman

  1264. he is

  1265. making

  1266. tongue

  1267. in

  1268. cheek

  1269. comparison

  1270. I'm

  1271. talking

  1272. like a

  1273. madman

  1274. with far

  1275. greater

  1276. labels

  1277. far more

  1278. imprisonments

  1279. with countless

  1280. beatings and

  1281. often near

  1282. death

  1283. Paul lays

  1284. out for us

  1285. the suffering

  1286. of his

  1287. ministry

  1288. verse 24

  1289. five times

  1290. I received

  1291. at the hands

  1292. of the Jews

  1293. the forty

  1294. lashes

  1295. less one

  1296. three times

  1297. I was

  1298. beaten

  1299. with rods

  1300. once

  1301. I was

  1302. stoned

  1303. three times

  1304. I was

  1305. shipwrecked

  1306. a night

  1307. and a day

  1308. I was

  1309. adrift

  1310. at sea

  1311. on frequent

  1312. journeys

  1313. in danger

  1314. from rivers

  1315. danger

  1316. from robbers

  1317. danger

  1318. from my

  1319. own

  1320. people

  1321. danger

  1322. from

  1323. gentiles

  1324. danger

  1325. in the

  1326. city

  1327. danger

  1328. in the

  1329. wilderness

  1330. danger

  1331. at sea

  1332. danger

  1333. from

  1334. false

  1335. brothers

  1336. in toil

  1337. and hardship

  1338. through many

  1339. a sleepless

  1340. night

  1341. in hunger

  1342. and thirst

  1343. often without

  1344. food

  1345. in cold

  1346. and exposure

  1347. and then here's

  1348. what I'm leading

  1349. us to

  1350. verse 28

  1351. and apart

  1352. from other

  1353. things

  1354. there's the

  1355. daily pressure

  1356. on me

  1357. of my

  1358. anxiety

  1359. for all

  1360. the churches

  1361. you see the way

  1362. in which he

  1363. toiled

  1364. and struggled

  1365. Paul was

  1366. spending himself

  1367. for the sake

  1368. of others

  1369. we see at the

  1370. beginning of

  1371. Romans chapter 9

    Romans 9 chapter mention

  1372. that Paul wishes

  1373. that he himself

  1374. would be accursed

  1375. cut off from the

  1376. blessing of Christ

  1377. that his

  1378. brothers

  1379. the Jewish

  1380. people

  1381. would know

  1382. the glory of God

  1383. in the face of

  1384. Jesus Christ

  1385. this deep

  1386. yearning

  1387. longing

  1388. desire

  1389. for the good

  1390. of others

  1391. in the church

  1392. and those

  1393. who are yet

  1394. to be counted

  1395. in the church

  1396. do we

  1397. yearn

  1398. in this

  1399. way

  1400. Paul worked

  1401. hard by the

  1402. strength of

  1403. God

  1404. and we

  1405. also

  1406. should work

  1407. hard

  1408. to warn

  1409. and teach

  1410. everyone

  1411. concerning

  1412. coming judgment

  1413. and the way

  1414. of salvation

  1415. in order

  1416. that those

  1417. who we

  1418. minister to

  1419. will become

  1420. mature in

  1421. Christ

  1422. and we

  1423. should most

  1424. certainly do

  1425. so by

  1426. meditating

  1427. on the

  1428. strength

  1429. that God

  1430. graciously

  1431. supplies

  1432. fifthly

  1433. the aim

  1434. of Paul's

  1435. ministry

  1436. further developed

  1437. last week's

  1438. point one

  1439. verse 25

  1440. chapter one

  1441. Paul says

  1442. to make

  1443. the word

  1444. of God

  1445. fully

  1446. known

  1447. and I

  1448. posited to you

  1449. that the purpose

  1450. of God

  1451. in history

  1452. and Paul's

  1453. aim in ministry

  1454. rightly so

  1455. is that the

  1456. gospel of

  1457. reconciliation

  1458. spread to

  1459. all the

  1460. peoples of

  1461. the world

  1462. in order to

  1463. yield

  1464. God centered

  1465. Christ

  1466. exalting

  1467. churches

  1468. to make

  1469. the word

  1470. of God

  1471. fully

  1472. known

  1473. verse 2

  1474. and 3

  1475. are an

  1476. expansion

  1477. of this

  1478. that their

  1479. hearts

  1480. may be

  1481. encouraged

  1482. being knit

  1483. together in

  1484. love to

  1485. reach all

  1486. the riches

  1487. of full

  1488. assurance

  1489. of understanding

  1490. and the

  1491. knowledge

  1492. of God's

  1493. mystery

  1494. which is

  1495. Christ

  1496. in whom

  1497. are hidden

  1498. all the

  1499. treasures

  1500. of wisdom

  1501. and knowledge

  1502. there's a

  1503. phenomenal amount

  1504. to be said

  1505. about those

  1506. two verses

  1507. and I'm

  1508. going to

  1509. pick up

  1510. some of

  1511. that in

  1512. next week's

  1513. sermon

  1514. to lead us

  1515. into our

  1516. next text

  1517. but briefly

  1518. concerning

  1519. these two

  1520. verses

  1521. this morning

  1522. Paul has

  1523. this desire

  1524. this aim

  1525. of his

  1526. ministry

  1527. that their

  1528. hearts

  1529. may be

  1530. encouraged

  1531. the heart

  1532. is the

  1533. inner person

  1534. the very

  1535. center

  1536. of our

  1537. lives

  1538. and how

  1539. does this

  1540. relate to

  1541. what has

  1542. been

  1543. previously

  1544. stated

  1545. verse 28

  1546. him we

  1547. proclaim

  1548. warning

  1549. everyone

  1550. and teaching

  1551. everyone

  1552. with all

  1553. wisdom

  1554. that we

  1555. represent

  1556. everyone

  1557. mature

  1558. in Christ

  1559. it's

  1560. connected

  1561. to

  1562. this

  1563. proclamation

  1564. the warning

  1565. and the

  1566. teaching

  1567. which are

  1568. things that

  1569. come into

  1570. our

  1571. minds

  1572. and affect

  1573. who we

  1574. are

  1575. the mind

  1576. and the

  1577. heart

  1578. are never

  1579. divorced

  1580. from each

  1581. other

  1582. you need to

  1583. get this

  1584. straight

  1585. the mind

  1586. and the

  1587. heart

  1588. are never

  1589. divorced

  1590. from each

  1591. other

  1592. the proper

  1593. view of

  1594. man

  1595. is a

  1596. dichotomous

  1597. view

  1598. we have

  1599. the external

  1600. and the

  1601. internal

  1602. beloved

  1603. please don't

  1604. understand it

  1605. any other

  1606. way

  1607. right

  1608. too often

  1609. Christians try

  1610. to separate

  1611. the mind

  1612. and the

  1613. heart

  1614. there are

  1615. whole

  1616. denominations

  1617. that

  1618. very

  1619. largely

  1620. worship

  1621. feeling

  1622. experience

  1623. both

  1624. should be

  1625. true

  1626. both

  1627. should

  1628. be

  1629. at

  1630. play

  1631. but

  1632. the

  1633. two

  1634. should

  1635. never

  1636. be

  1637. divorced

  1638. from one

  1639. another

  1640. let me

  1641. give you

  1642. a couple

  1643. of

  1644. examples

  1645. from the

  1646. scriptures

  1647. proverbs

  1648. 4

  1649. 23

  1650. says

  1651. keep

  1652. your

  1653. heart

  1654. with

  1655. all

  1656. vigilance

  1657. for

  1658. from

  1659. it

  1660. flows

  1661. the

  1662. springs

  1663. of

  1664. life

  1665. some

  1666. translations

  1667. say

  1668. guard

  1669. your

  1670. heart

  1671. with

  1672. all

  1673. vigilance

  1674. how

  1675. do

  1676. you

  1677. do

  1678. this

  1679. type

  1680. of

  1681. thing

  1682. with

  1683. your

  1684. mind

  1685. psalm 26

  1709. the

  1710. encouragement

  1711. of

  1712. their

  1730. to

  1731. antioch

  1732. paul

  1735. went

  1737. one

  1738. place

  1739. to

  1740. the

  1741. next

  1742. through

  1743. the

  1750. strengthening

  1751. all

  1752. the

  1754. and

  1755. God

  1756. uses

  1757. us

  1758. for

  1759. the

  1760. very

  1761. same

  1762. purpose

  1763. with

  1764. all

  1765. the

  1766. things

  1767. that

  1768. we've

  1769. said

  1770. before

  1771. this

  1772. proclamation

  1773. this

  1774. warning

  1775. and

  1776. this

  1777. teaching

  1778. in order

  1779. that

  1780. we

  1781. may

  1782. present

  1783. one

  1784. another

  1785. mature

  1786. in

  1787. Christ

  1788. our

  1789. hearts

  1790. are

  1791. encouraged

  1792. our

  1793. hearts

  1794. and

  1795. minds

  1796. !

  1797. strengthened!

  1798. He

  1799. goes

  1800. on to

  1801. say

  1802. that

  1803. they

  1804. would

  1805. be

  1806. knit

  1807. together

  1808. in

  1809. love

  1810. or

  1811. united

  1812. together

  1813. in

  1814. love

  1815. and this

  1816. aorist

  1817. verb

  1818. helps

  1819. explain

  1820. the

  1821. main

  1822. verb

  1823. of the

  1824. sentence

  1825. which is

  1826. that they

  1827. may be

  1828. encouraged

  1829. the

  1830. strengthened

  1831. heart

  1832. and mind

  1833. is one

  1834. filled

  1835. with love

  1836. the

  1837. properly

  1838. encouraged

  1839. heart

  1840. is one

  1841. filled

  1842. with

  1843. love

  1844. in

  1845. fact

  1846. love

  1847. is the

  1848. necessary

  1849. balance

  1850. of a

  1851. strong

  1852. mind

  1853. many

  1854. of us

  1855. know

  1856. those

  1857. people

  1858. who

  1859. get

  1860. their

  1861. knowledge

  1862. before

  1863. their

  1864. maturity

  1865. love

  1866. seems

  1867. to come

  1868. with

  1869. the

  1870. maturing

  1871. process

  1872. and

  1873. they

  1874. go

  1875. picking

  1876. fights

  1877. about

  1878. unnecessary

  1879. things

  1880. many

  1881. of us

  1882. are like

  1883. babies

  1884. learning

  1885. to walk

  1886. because our

  1887. heads

  1888. are just

  1889. so big

  1890. and heavy

  1891. Wes

  1892. mentioned

  1893. Graham

  1894. earlier

  1895. it's a good

  1896. example

  1897. not walking

  1898. quite so well

  1899. sometimes

  1900. because his

  1901. head

  1902. causes him

  1903. to fall

  1904. over

  1905. John

  1906. MacArthur

  1907. said

  1908. Christianity

  1909. is not

  1910. mindless

  1911. enthusiasm

  1912. but neither

  1913. is it

  1914. lifeless

  1915. intellectual

  1916. orthodoxy

  1917. there's a

  1918. healthy balance

  1919. to be found

  1920. in this

  1921. and Paul's

  1922. desire for

  1923. them

  1924. is that

  1925. they would

  1926. have

  1927. hearts

  1928. encouraged

  1929. minds

  1930. strengthened

  1931. and they

  1932. would be

  1933. knit

  1934. together

  1935. in love

  1936. in the

  1937. high priestly

  1938. prayer

  1939. Jesus

  1940. prayed

  1941. for

  1942. Christian

  1943. unity

  1944. these

  1945. hearts

  1946. knit

  1947. together

  1948. 17

  1949. verses

  1950. 20

  1951. through

  1952. 23

  1953. let me

  1954. invite you

  1955. to turn

  1956. there

  1957. with me

  1958. this is

  1959. enough

  1960. text

  1961. for you

  1962. to see

  1963. it

  1964. for

  1965. yourself

  1966. I would

  1967. always

  1968. invite you

  1969. to turn

  1970. with me

  1971. anywhere

  1972. I go

  1973. but for

  1974. the sake

  1975. of time

  1976. I try

  1977. to roll

  1978. through

  1979. some

  1980. things

  1981. John

  1982. 17

  1983. beginning

  1984. of

  1985. verse

  1986. 20

  1987. I do

  1988. not ask

  1989. for

  1990. these

  1991. only

  1992. he's

  1993. just

  1994. been

  1995. praying

  1996. for

  1997. the

  1998. disciples

  1999. but also

  2000. for those

  2001. who will

  2002. believe in

  2003. me

  2004. through their

  2005. word

  2006. all of

  2007. us

  2008. that they

  2009. may

  2010. all be

  2011. one

  2012. just as

  2013. you

  2014. father

  2015. are in

  2016. me

  2017. and I

  2018. in you

  2019. that they

  2020. also may

  2021. be in

  2022. us

  2023. so that

  2024. the world

  2025. may

  2026. believe

  2027. that you

  2028. have

  2029. sent

  2030. me

  2031. the glory

  2032. that you

  2033. have given

  2034. me

  2035. I have

  2036. given

  2037. to them

  2038. that they

  2039. may be

  2040. one

  2041. even

  2042. as

  2043. we

  2044. are

  2045. one

  2046. I

  2047. in

  2048. them

  2049. and

  2050. you

  2051. in

  2052. me

  2053. that

  2054. they

  2055. may

  2056. become

  2057. perfectly

  2058. one

  2059. so that

  2060. the world

  2061. may

  2062. know

  2063. that you

  2064. sent

  2065. me

  2066. and

  2067. love

  2068. them

  2069. even

  2070. as

  2071. you

  2072. loved

  2073. me

  2074. I guess

  2075. prayer for

  2076. them is that the

  2077. Christian church

  2078. we bound

  2079. together in order to

  2080. give this

  2081. expression of

  2082. the way in

  2083. which the

  2084. father and

  2085. Christ are

  2086. one that

  2087. the father

  2088. sent

  2089. Christ

  2090. into the

  2091. world

  2092. it's

  2093. astounding

  2094. !

  2095. final

  2096. apologetic

  2097. the

  2098. final

  2099. proof

  2100. of the

  2101. gospel of

  2102. glory

  2103. he went on

  2104. to write

  2105. in John

  2106. 13

  2107. the point

  2108. was that

  2109. if an

  2110. individual

  2111. Christian

  2112. does not

  2113. show love

  2114. toward other

  2115. true

  2116. Christians

  2117. the world

  2118. has the

  2119. right to

  2120. judge

  2121. that he

  2122. is not

  2123. a

  2124. Christian

  2125. here in

  2126. John

  2127. 17

  2128. the text

  2129. I just

  2130. read to

  2131. you

  2132. Jesus

  2133. is stating

  2134. something

  2135. else

  2136. which is

  2137. much

  2138. more

  2139. cutting

  2140. much

  2141. more

  2142. profound

  2143. we

  2144. cannot

  2145. expect

  2146. the world

  2147. to

  2148. believe

  2149. that

  2150. the

  2151. father

  2152. sent

  2153. the

  2154. son

  2155. that

  2156. Jesus

  2157. claims

  2158. are

  2159. true

  2160. and

  2161. that

  2162. Christianity

  2163. is

  2164. true

  2165. unless

  2166. the

  2167. world

  2168. sees

  2169. some

  2170. reality

  2171. of

  2172. oneness

  2173. of

  2174. true

  2175. Christians

  2176. now

  2177. that is

  2178. frightening

  2179. should we

  2180. not feel

  2181. some

  2182. emotion

  2183. at this

  2184. point

  2185. end

  2186. quote

  2187. the

  2188. way

  2189. in

  2190. which

  2191. one

  2192. of the

  2193. primary

  2194. ways

  2195. in

  2196. which

  2197. God

  2198. intended

  2199. for the

  2200. gospel

  2201. to be

  2202. believed

  2203. is that

  2204. Christian

  2205. people

  2206. are

  2207. united

  2208. together

  2209. in

  2210. love

  2211. this

  2212. takes

  2213. a

  2214. great

  2215. deal

  2216. of

  2217. work

  2218. we've

  2219. been

  2220. talking

  2221. about

  2222. toiling

  2223. and

  2224. struggling

  2225. to this

  2226. great

  2227. end

  2228. that we

  2229. work

  2230. to

  2231. maintain

  2232. the

  2233. unity

  2234. of the

  2235. spirit

  2236. the

  2237. spirit

  2238. has

  2239. unified

  2240. us

  2241. already

  2242. we

  2243. just

  2244. have

  2245. to

  2246. work

  2247. at

  2248. maintaining

  2249. said

  2250. unity

  2251. this

  2252. means

  2253. that

  2254. you

  2255. don't

  2256. dip

  2257. when

  2258. things

  2259. get

  2260. a

  2261. little

  2262. bit

  2263. rough

  2264. you

  2265. get

  2266. slightly

  2267. offended

  2268. !

  2269. by

  2270. somebody

  2271. you

  2272. work

  2273. out

  2274. these

  2275. types

  2276. of

  2277. things

  2278. church

  2279. is not

  2280. a thing

  2281. that we

  2282. come

  2283. and consume

  2284. it is a

  2285. people

  2286. called out

  2287. by

  2288. God

  2289. I think

  2290. one of our

  2291. major problems

  2292. is that we

  2293. too often

  2294. think of

  2295. the church

  2296. as something

  2297. outside

  2298. of us

  2299. right

  2300. Walmart

  2301. is a

  2302. store

  2303. I have

  2304. no

  2305. allegiance

  2306. to

  2307. Walmart

  2308. it's

  2309. where I

  2310. occasionally

  2311. go get

  2312. things

  2313. because

  2314. it's

  2315. convenient

  2316. they'll

  2317. likely

  2318. have

  2319. what

  2320. I'm

  2321. looking

  2322. for

  2323. that's

  2324. not

  2325. what the

  2326. church

  2327. is

  2328. the

  2329. church

  2330. is

  2331. the

  2332. people

  2333. the

  2334. church

  2335. is

  2336. not

  2337. this

  2338. property

  2339. in

  2340. this

  2341. building

  2342. it's

  2343. us

  2344. commit

  2345. yourself

  2346. to a

  2347. group

  2348. to a

  2349. fellowship

  2350. of

  2351. believers

  2352. whether

  2353. it's

  2354. here

  2355. or

  2356. someplace

  2357. else

  2358. commit

  2359. yourself

  2360. to

  2361. the

  2362. people

  2363. not

  2364. the

  2365. programs

  2366. that

  2367. exist

  2368. work

  2369. through

  2370. the

  2371. hard

  2372. things

  2373. that

  2374. we

  2375. have

  2376. to

  2377. work

  2378. through

  2379. together

  2380. as

  2381. a

  2382. church

  2383. progress

  2384. in

  2385. truth

  2386. together

  2387. I'm

  2388. not

  2389. always

  2390. going

  2391. to

  2392. get

  2393. it

  2394. right

  2395. and

  2396. I

  2397. need

  2398. you

  2399. I

  2400. need

  2401. you

  2402. to

  2403. partner

  2404. with

  2405. me

  2406. you

  2407. may

  2408. have

  2409. noticed

  2410. twice

  2411. this

  2412. morning

  2413. I've

  2414. called

  2415. you

  2416. fam

  2417. I'm

  2418. going

  2419. start

  2420. doing

  2421. that

  2422. a lot

  2423. more

  2424. often

  2425. right

  2426. you don't

  2427. just

  2428. dip

  2429. out

  2430. on

  2431. your

  2432. family

  2433. it

  2434. may

  2435. be

  2436. hard

  2437. sometimes

  2438. to

  2439. be

  2440. with

  2441. your

  2442. family

  2443. they

  2444. invite

  2445. you

  2446. on

  2447. a

  2448. vacation

  2449. and

  2450. you

  2451. go

  2452. right

  2453. you

  2454. spend

  2455. time

  2456. with

  2457. them

  2458. you

  2459. invest

  2460. in

  2461. them

  2462. we

  2463. should

  2464. do

  2465. the

  2466. same

  2467. thing

  2468. with

  2469. our

  2470. faith

  2471. family

  2472. it's

  2473. important

  2474. that we

  2475. get

  2476. this

  2477. the

  2478. church

  2479. is

  2480. not

  2481. something

  2482. outside

  2483. of

  2484. us

  2485. the

  2486. church

  2487. is

  2488. us

  2489. he

  2490. expands

  2491. upon

  2492. this

  2493. and

  2494. like

  2495. I

  2496. said

  2497. I'm

  2498. going

  2499. to

  2500. get

  2501. into

  2502. it

  2503. next

  2504. week

  2505. for

  2506. the

  2507. sake

  2508. of

  2509. time

  2510. he

  2511. wants

  2512. them

  2513. to

  2514. have

  2515. full

  2516. assurance

  2517. of

  2518. understanding

  2519. and

  2520. the

  2521. knowledge

  2522. of

  2523. God's

  2524. mystery

  2525. which

  2526. is

  2527. Christ

  2528. confident

  2529. knowledge

  2530. of

  2531. Christ

  2532. and

  2533. lives

  2534. that

  2535. act

  2536. according

  2537. to

  2538. said

  2539. knowledge

  2540. this

  2541. is

  2542. the

  2543. aim

  2544. of

  2545. his

  2546. ministry

  2547. and

  2548. ours

  2549. Paul

  2550. desired

  2551. that

  2552. the

  2553. Colossian

  2554. believers

  2555. hearts

  2556. and

  2557. minds

  2558. would

  2559. be

  2560. strengthened

  2561. and

  2562. that

  2563. they

  2564. would

  2565. be

  2566. united

  2567. in

  2568. love

  2569. and

  2570. we

  2571. should

  2572. desire

  2573. the

  2574. exact

  2575. same

  2576. thing

  2577. if

  2578. you

  2579. don't

  2580. you

  2581. have

  2582. to

  2583. ask

  2584. yourself

  2585. why

  2586. we

  2587. should

  2588. labor

  2589. to

  2590. see

  2591. this

  2592. become

  2593. a

  2594. reality

  2595. amongst

  2596. us

  2597. to

  2598. the

  2599. glory

  2600. of

  2601. God

  2602. let's

  2603. pray

  2604. !
