  1. True evangelism is genuine persuasion.

  2. ! You make reasonable arguments from God's Word

  3. ! and ask the Holy Spirit to apply His Word to the person's heart.

  4. ! And so, He proves, by the Scriptures, and by the resurrection, and other things in this time that Jesus was the Messiah.

  5. And then at the end of this, 3,000 people are saved and added to the church.

  6. So, we're going to pick up today in verse 22 of chapter 2.

  7. After explaining Pentecost, Peter then moves on.

  8. Verse 22, he says,

  9. Men of Israel, hear these words.

  10. Jesus of Nazareth, a man attested to you by God,

  11. with mighty works and wonders and signs that God did through Him in your midst,

  12. as you yourselves know.

  13. This Jesus delivered up according to the definite plan and foreknowledge of God.

  14. You crucified and killed by the hands of lawless men.

  15. God raised Him up, loosing the pangs of death,

  16. because it was not possible for Him to be held by it.

  17. For David says concerning Him,

  18. now he's going back to Scripture again,

  19. I saw the Lord always before me,

  20. for He is in my right hand,

  21. that I may not be shaken.

  22. Therefore, my heart was glad,

  23. and my tongue rejoiced.

  24. My flesh also will dwell in hope,

  25. for You will not abandon my soul to Hades,

  26. or let Your Holy One see corruption.

  27. You have made known to me the path of life.

  28. You will make me full of gladness with Your presence.

  29. Brothers, I must say to you with confidence about the patriarch David,

  30. that he both died and was buried,

  31. and in his tomb is with us to this day.

  32. Being therefore a prophet,

  33. and knowing that God has sworn with an oath to him,

  34. that he would set one of his descendants on the throne,

  35. he foresaw and spoke about the resurrection of Christ,

  36. that he was not abandoned to Hades,

  37. nor did his flesh see corruption.

  38. This Jesus God raised up,

  39. and that we all are witnesses,

  40. being therefore exalted at the right hand of God,

  41. and having received from the Father the promise of the Holy Spirit,

  42. he has poured out this,

  43. that you yourselves are seeing and hearing.

  44. We'll stop there.

  45. So, just join me in a word of prayer before we go further.

  46. Father, we have come to worship You tonight,

  47. today, this morning, Lord,

  48. and I pray that we would do so in spirit and in truth.

  49. We are gathered this morning,

  50. not for any other reason.

  51. We are wasting our time, Lord,

  52. if we are not here to see Jesus lifted up,

  53. and to be transformed by His presence in our lives.

  54. I pray that we would listen to Your Word as an act of worship,

  55. that we would be ready to apply it in our lives.

  56. Lord, we love it,

  57. and we respect it.

  58. And God, we bow to what You say this morning.

  59. So, encourage our hearts,

  60. meet each one of us where we are,

  61. those who are broken and battered and beaten down,

  62. as well as those who are full of joy and gladness now.

  63. Lord, I pray You would be glorified in Christ's name.

  64. Amen.

  65. So,

  66. I had a hard time trimming this down.

  67. I got it down to barely over four pages,

  68. so I'm going to do my best.

  69. to move through this.

  70. But,

  71. we're going to move through our text today

  72. with four points.

  73. And they're all about,

  74. like, who the Messiah was.

  75. Like, who is Jesus as the Messiah?

  76. Because that's what Peter's trying to do.

  77. He's trying to preach and persuade

  78. and show this gathered crowd

  79. that Jesus was the long-expected Messiah,

  80. not only for Israel,

  81. but of the whole world,

  82. of all the nations that He came to save.

  83. And so,

  84. so,

  85. so,

  86. three or four things about the Messiah.

  87. And we'll see them very clearly in our text,

  88. but,

  89. number one is,

  90. the identity of the Messiah.

  91. The identity of the Messiah.

  92. Verse 22,

  93. it says,

  94. men of Israel,

  95. hear these words,

  96. Jesus of Nazareth,

  97. a man attested to you by God.

  98. So,

  99. he uses the phrase,

  100. men of Israel.

  101. And,

  102. that is a gracious title for Peter to use with this crowd.

  103. Such incredibly kind words to address this crowd with.

  104. Why?

  105. Because,

  106. this is the most guilty people

  107. in the most guilty city on earth at this point.

  108. God manifested Himself to the nation of Israel

  109. like no other nation.

  110. He had a whole,

  111. they had a whole history with God.

  112. They had the prophets.

  113. They had the law.

  114. They had God revealing Himself to them

  115. by divine revelation.

  116. And at this point,

  117. they even had the scriptures of Moses

  118. and the prophets and others.

  119. They had so much given to them.

  120. And they were to be a light for all the nations

  121. to know God.

  122. And in many ways,

  123. they failed to do so.

  124. So,

  125. yet,

  126. though they had all this revelation,

  127. they constantly turned against God,

  128. constantly rebelled against God

  129. and worshipped idols,

  130. killed the prophets

  131. who were calling them to turn back to God,

  132. and the prophets who foretold of the Messiah

  133. to come.

  134. And then finally,

  135. when the Messiah came,

  136. when Jesus came,

  137. they rejected Him as well.

  138. They cursed Him,

  139. they spat on Him,

  140. and eventually they crucified Him.

  141. So they killed the very Messiah

  142. that God had promised to send.

  143. That's what's going on here.

  144. And so you would think that Peter

  145. would address all the non-Jews in the crowd

  146. and say like,

  147. people of Israel,

  148. you've lost,

  149. you know,

  150. your chance is over.

  151. If you're not a Jew,

  152. listen to me.

  153. But that's not what he says.

  154. Instead of cursing them

  155. and cutting them off

  156. from God's salvation,

  157. Peter speaks immense grace to them

  158. by calling them

  159. men of Israel.

  160. It's as if he's saying,

  161. draw close to me,

  162. listen carefully to what I'm saying,

  163. you descendants of Abraham,

  164. Isaac,

  165. Jacob,

  166. you children of the covenant,

  167. those whom God has bound Himself to

  168. in covenant love,

  169. who constantly rebel,

  170. but God is always faithful,

  171. you guys,

  172. you descendants of Jacob,

  173. of Israel,

  174. listen to me.

  175. And that's such amazing grace

  176. offered to this crowd

  177. that he addresses them in that way.

  178. And that should encourage us.

  179. Are you encouraged

  180. that God offers such this?

  181. This is the very crowd

  182. that crucified the Lord.

  183. He's offering them

  184. a chance

  185. to believe and repent.

  186. Men of Israel,

  187. grace upon grace,

  188. to those people in the crowd.

  189. Then he goes on,

  190. he says,

  191. Jesus of Nazareth.

  192. This is the identity

  193. of the Messiah.

  194. He,

  195. all throughout the book of Acts,

  196. Peter loved to use

  197. the title

  198. Jesus of Nazareth.

  199. It's used multiple times

  200. throughout the book of Acts,

  201. specifically by Peter.

  202. And you may ask,

  203. why that title

  204. when Jesus has

  205. so many other titles?

  206. But,

  207. if you think about it,

  208. many days before this,

  209. this was the name

  210. that they hung

  211. above Jesus

  212. on the cross

  213. to scorn him

  214. and mock him

  215. and make fun of him.

  216. And now,

  217. it's like,

  218. Peter's saying,

  219. that Jesus of Nazareth

  220. that you guys

  221. rejected and killed,

  222. he was

  223. the long-expected Messiah.

  224. Yeah,

  225. you know,

  226. Jesus,

  227. from that no-name,

  228. dirty little town

  229. of Nazareth

  230. in Galilee.

  231. Yeah,

  232. he is God's Messiah.

  233. So,

  234. he's taking that name

  235. that they used

  236. to keep scorn upon Jesus

  237. and pushing it

  238. right back in their face

  239. in a way.

  240. And so,

  241. it goes on,

  242. he says,

  243. this was a man

  244. attested to you

  245. by God.

  246. And last week,

  247. we talked about

  248. how the word attested

  249. is implied in a lot of ways,

  250. but it means

  251. to put something

  252. on display.

  253. To put something

  254. on exhibition.

  255. To give evidence

  256. to something

  257. and to proclaim something.

  258. That's like what

  259. this means.

  260. And Jesus,

  261. he did this.

  262. God took Jesus

  263. and presented him

  264. like nothing,

  265. trying to hide nothing.

  266. Here he is.

  267. Look at him.

  268. He put Jesus

  269. on exhibition

  270. as the true Messiah.

  271. The true and living Messiah.

  272. His birth,

  273. his life,

  274. his death,

  275. and his resurrection

  276. overwhelmingly prove

  277. that he is

  278. who he said he was.

  279. He was their Messiah

  280. and he is our Messiah

  281. today.

  282. So how did

  283. God lift him up?

  284. How did God

  285. put him on exhibition?

  286. And a lot of this

  287. is the rest of the message.

  288. But it goes

  289. to the second point.

  290. Number two

  291. is,

  292. so the first one

  293. was the identity

  294. of the Messiah.

  295. Number two

  296. is the life

  297. of the Messiah.

  298. verse 22 again.

  299. Jesus of Nazareth,

  300. a man attested

  301. to you by God

  302. with mighty works

  303. and wonders

  304. and signs

  305. that God did

  306. through him

  307. in your midst.

  308. You yourselves

  309. know.

  310. So,

  311. a massive amount

  312. of proof

  313. or evidence

  314. to show that

  315. Jesus was

  316. the true Messiah.

  317. God validated him.

  318. his life

  319. was no

  320. ordinary life

  321. at all.

  322. Even compared

  323. to other great men.

  324. If you just

  325. Google at some point,

  326. like,

  327. I'm a big history nerd

  328. but like,

  329. I love studying

  330. military history,

  331. but

  332. Napoleon Bonaparte,

  333. an incredible guy

  334. but also

  335. a little crazy,

  336. who conquered

  337. a lot of Europe

  338. and

  339. set the hearts

  340. of his country

  341. men on fire,

  342. he recognizes

  343. something very

  344. unique about Jesus.

  345. You just Google

  346. Jesus Christ,

  347. Napoleon Bonaparte

  348. and this long

  349. extended quote

  350. about how

  351. Jesus was far

  352. greater than him

  353. and any other

  354. great military leader

  355. ever.

  356. So,

  357. something that

  358. just stands out

  359. about Jesus,

  360. no one can really

  361. escape that reality.

  362. Jesus is not

  363. ordinary at all.

  364. He's not just

  365. a prophet.

  366. He's not just

  367. a good moral teacher.

  368. Jesus made claims

  369. and said things

  370. that you just

  371. do not say

  372. unless

  373. either he was crazy

  374. or he was telling

  375. you the truth.

  376. Alright,

  377. so,

  378. Jesus claimed

  379. to be the only

  380. Son of God

  381. and that he alone

  382. had descended

  383. from the Father.

  384. Very big deal.

  385. He also claimed

  386. to be God

  387. in human flesh

  388. and that to see him

  389. was to see

  390. the Father.

  391. And he allowed

  392. people to worship

  393. him as God.

  394. As God

  395. is only worthy

  396. to be worshipped.

  397. Jesus also claimed

  398. to be the only

  399. Savior of the world

  400. and the only way

  401. to God.

  402. And he had the power

  403. to forgive sins.

  404. He claimed

  405. to possess authority

  406. in heaven

  407. and on earth.

  408. Right?

  409. So many things

  410. he said.

  411. He claimed

  412. that he would,

  413. one of the most

  414. outrageous ones,

  415. was not,

  416. he predicted

  417. his own death

  418. but then he also

  419. said that death

  420. would not keep

  421. his hold on him.

  422. That he would

  423. rise from

  424. the dead.

  425. Yet,

  426. those highly

  427. exclusive claims

  428. that he made

  429. don't subtract

  430. from his compassion,

  431. his wisdom,

  432. his mercy,

  433. his humility

  434. to a broken

  435. world.

  436. So,

  437. on your bulletin

  438. there's a quote

  439. by a historian

  440. named Philip Schaaf.

  441. If you want to look

  442. at it,

  443. it says,

  444. Jesus of Nazareth

  445. without money

  446. and arms

  447. conquered more

  448. millions

  449. than Alexander

  450. the Great,

  451. Caesar,

  452. Muhammad,

  453. and Napoleon.

  454. Without science

  455. and learning,

  456. he shed more

  457. light on things

  458. human and divine

  459. than all philosophers

  460. and scholars

  461. combined.

  462. He spoke such

  463. words of life

  464. as were never

  465. spoken before

  466. or since

  467. and produced effects

  468. which lie beyond

  469. the reach of an

  470. orator or poet.

  471. Without writing

  472. a single line,

  473. he set more

  474. pins in motion

  475. and furnished

  476. themes for more

  477. sermons,

  478. orations,

  479. discussions,

  480. learned volumes,

  481. works of art,

  482. songs of praise

  483. than the whole

  484. army of great men

  485. of the ancient

  486. and modern times.

  487. It's true.

  488. Even people who

  489. hate Jesus,

  490. they can't escape

  491. him.

  492. He's always there

  493. haunting their

  494. memories and

  495. their minds.

  496. His was no

  497. ordinary life.

  498. And so God

  499. held him up

  500. and put him

  501. on exhibition.

  502. We have nothing

  503. to hide as

  504. believers,

  505. okay?

  506. Jesus,

  507. when he was

  508. here,

  509. he used terms

  510. like,

  511. come,

  512. look,

  513. see,

  514. listen to me,

  515. follow me.

  516. He wasn't

  517. trying to hide

  518. anything.

  519. He was always

  520. inviting people

  521. to check out

  522. who he was.

  523. Right?

  524. So he offered

  525. them in this

  526. text for three

  527. years.

  528. Jesus taught

  529. from the

  530. scriptures.

  531. He explained

  532. who he was

  533. from the Old

  534. Testament

  535. scriptures,

  536. displayed great

  537. acts of

  538. kindness and

  539. compassion.

  540. And so,

  541. but in our

  542. text here,

  543. as we just

  544. read,

  545. it says

  546. there were

  547. some specific

  548. things that gave

  549. insight to who

  550. the Messiah

  551. was.

  552. He used

  553. the term

  554. mighty works.

  555. And this

  556. just means

  557. that they

  558. were miraculous

  559. in nature

  560. and appearance.

  561. Like,

  562. they were not

  563. normal.

  564. They were

  565. miraculous in

  566. their nature

  567. and appearance.

  568. Then he

  569. used the

  570. word wonders.

  571. And this

  572. word speaks

  573. of something

  574. that's shocking,

  575. startling,

  576. that catches

  577. your attention

  578. and is

  579. completely out

  580. of the

  581. ordinary.

  582. This is

  583. what wonders

  584. means.

  585. And then

  586. later on,

  587. so what's

  588. the intention,

  589. what's the

  590. purpose of

  591. wonders?

  592. And it's

  593. to point

  594. to signs.

  595. Okay?

  596. Signs that

  597. are pointing

  598. to a

  599. spiritual

  600. reality of

  601. who Jesus

  602. claimed to

  603. be.

  604. And all

  605. we know,

  606. like he

  607. healed the

  608. sick,

  609. he,

  610. all throughout

  611. the Old

  612. Testament

  613. Levitical

  614. laws,

  615. like it

  616. was,

  617. it made

  618. someone

  619. unclean

  620. to touch

  621. a leopard,

  622. to touch

  623. someone who

  624. had a bodily

  625. discharge.

  626. If you

  627. touched

  628. them,

  629. you were

  630. considered

  631. unclean,

  632. and then

  633. you were

  634. kicked out

  635. of the

  636. camp.

  637. But Jesus

  638. came,

  639. and he

  640. touched

  641. the leopard,

  642. touched

  643. the people

  644. who were

  645. untouchable,

  646. and they

  647. were healed.

  648. Pretty

  649. incredible.

  650. He walked

  651. on the

  652. water,

  653. he calmed

  654. storms,

  655. and unlike

  656. anything else,

  657. he raised

  658. the dead.

  659. Right?

  660. All of

  661. this,

  662. Jesus did,

  663. if you

  664. notice this,

  665. a lot of

  666. people have

  667. this idea

  668. that Jesus

  669. was using

  670. his divinity,

  671. to kind

  672. of prove

  673. who he

  674. was.

  675. Jesus

  676. was fully

  677. divine,

  678. but when

  679. he came

  680. here,

  681. he yielded

  682. that to

  683. the power

  684. of the

  685. Father.

  686. He came

  687. to show

  688. us what

  689. a life

  690. was like

  691. yielded

  692. to the

  693. Holy Spirit.

  694. That's why

  695. he was

  696. baptized,

  697. and the

  698. Holy Spirit

  699. came down.

  700. And as

  701. John says,

  702. the Spirit

  703. rested on

  704. Jesus without

  705. measure.

  706. But do you

  707. see that in

  708. the text?

  709. It said all

  710. these things

  711. that God

  712. did through

  713. him to

  714. validate who

  715. he was.

  716. These

  717. miraculous

  718. manifestations

  719. of God's

  720. power,

  721. they created

  722. wonder.

  723. So just

  724. so you

  725. know,

  726. Scripture

  727. does teach

  728. that even

  729. forces of

  730. evil can

  731. perform some

  732. sorts of

  733. miracles.

  734. But one

  735. major difference

  736. is they can't

  737. raise people

  738. from the

  739. dead.

  740. Only God

  741. has that

  742. power.

  743. And as we

  744. see,

  745. Jesus went

  746. further,

  747. and he was

  748. the one

  749. who was

  750. raised from

  751. dead.

  752. And so

  753. all these

  754. things

  755. proclaimed,

  756. proved,

  757. and pointed

  758. to Jesus

  759. being the

  760. Messiah.

  761. And he

  762. was like,

  763. you yourselves

  764. know this

  765. happened.

  766. You guys

  767. were here.

  768. You saw

  769. this.

  770. You saw

  771. this.

  772. You saw

  773. Jesus do

  774. these things.

  775. And you

  776. still harden

  777. your heart.

  778. Seeing is

  779. not believing.

  780. Okay?

  781. That's not what

  782. the Bible

  783. teaches.

  784. Seeing is

  785. not believing.

  786. These people

  787. saw this,

  788. and they

  789. still denied

  790. it.

  791. Okay?

  792. So number

  793. three,

  794. the third

  795. point that

  796. he used to

  797. talk about

  798. the Messiah

  799. is the

  800. death of

  801. the Messiah.

  802. The death

  803. of the

  804. Messiah.

  805. Verse 23.

  806. Check this

  807. one out.

  808. This is a

  809. big one.

  810. It says,

  811. This Jesus

  812. delivered up

  813. according to

  814. the definite

  815. plan and

  816. foreknowledge

  817. of God.

  818. You crucified

  819. and killed

  820. by the hands

  821. of lawless

  822. men.

  823. So just as

  824. Jesus of

  825. Nazareth

  826. was no

  827. ordinary

  828. man.

  829. His death

  830. was no

  831. ordinary

  832. death.

  833. The death

  834. of the

  835. Son of

  836. God and

  837. the resurrection

  838. are the

  839. two most

  840. important

  841. events in

  842. human history.

  843. And they

  844. demand your

  845. attention.

  846. They do.

  847. To miss

  848. this is

  849. pretty

  850. dangerous to

  851. your soul.

  852. It's an

  853. event of

  854. cosmic

  855. proportions

  856. throughout all

  857. eternity.

  858. It demands

  859. your reverent

  860. attention.

  861. So Jesus

  862. came to

  863. die on

  864. the cross

  865. to honor

  866. his father,

  867. to glorify

  868. his father,

  869. but also to

  870. meet our

  871. greatest need,

  872. which was to

  873. be redeemed,

  874. to be saved,

  875. to be reconciled

  876. to God.

  877. Okay, so

  878. our entire

  879. being before

  880. Christ,

  881. okay,

  882. BC,

  883. your entire

  884. being is

  885. enslaved to

  886. sin.

  887. Your mind,

  888. your heart,

  889. are corrupted

  890. by evil.

  891. This is what

  892. scripture teaches,

  893. and your

  894. will is in

  895. bondage to

  896. sin.

  897. Ever since

  898. Eden, man

  899. has been a

  900. fugitive running

  901. from the

  902. presence of

  903. God.

  904. That's why

  905. when we

  906. commit sin,

  907. that's why

  908. we like to

  909. do it in

  910. private.

  911. That's why

  912. we don't

  913. like things

  914. like the

  915. holiness of

  916. God,

  917. because it

  918. exposes

  919. who we

  920. are.

  921. As John

  922. said,

  923. men love

  924. darkness,

  925. and they

  926. hate the

  927. light,

  928. because they

  929. don't want

  930. themselves to

  931. be seen.

  932. Right?

  933. So we

  934. run.

  935. We are

  936. cosmic

  937. fugitives

  938. from the

  939. presence of

  940. the Lord

  941. God Almighty.

  942. But Peter's

  943. words here

  944. beg a

  945. question.

  946. Okay?

  947. It leads us

  948. to ask this

  949. question.

  950. Did God

  951. see the

  952. disaster that

  953. was coming in

  954. the Garden of

  955. Eden?

  956. Was He

  957. totally cut

  958. off guard

  959. by our sin?

  960. Did God

  961. begin to

  962. devise a

  963. plan after

  964. the fall?

  965. Like He

  966. created the

  967. world,

  968. and then

  969. after Eden

  970. He was

  971. like,

  972. oh no,

  973. I'm in

  974. trouble.

  975. Some people

  976. believe in

  977. the church,

  978. even some

  979. good people

  980. just misled.

  981. They believe

  982. that redemption

  983. was a plan

  984. that was conceived

  985. in the Garden

  986. of Eden.

  987. And that goes

  988. against everything

  989. we know about

  990. God.

  991. You know,

  992. you've got the

  993. little drama

  994. teams performing

  995. a skit of the

  996. Garden of Eden,

  997. and they're

  998. playing,

  999. you know,

  1000. Total Eclipse

  1001. of the Heart

  1002. in the

  1003. background,

  1004. and God

  1005. is like,

  1006. the whole

  1007. time like,

  1008. no,

  1009. don't do

  1010. that.

  1011. And it

  1012. portrays this

  1013. idea that God

  1014. was just

  1015. caught off

  1016. guard.

  1017. What happened?

  1018. So many in

  1019. the church,

  1020. many people

  1021. will say

  1022. that God

  1023. does not,

  1024. they believe

  1025. that God

  1026. is sovereign,

  1027. but He does

  1028. not ordain

  1029. and know

  1030. every single

  1031. event that's

  1032. going to

  1033. happen.

  1034. but He

  1035. leaves it

  1036. open to

  1037. a lot of

  1038. the stuff

  1039. in the future

  1040. to be determined

  1041. by man's

  1042. will,

  1043. man's choices,

  1044. or Satan's,

  1045. and God

  1046. is reactionary

  1047. to those

  1048. events.

  1049. He reacts,

  1050. but He

  1051. didn't plan.

  1052. So,

  1053. this is a

  1054. theological

  1055. idea called

  1056. open theism,

  1057. and it's

  1058. completely

  1059. untrue

  1060. and unbiblical,

  1061. that it

  1062. implies like

  1063. God has a

  1064. plan A,

  1065. and if that

  1066. doesn't work

  1067. out,

  1068. He has a

  1069. plan B,

  1070. and a

  1071. plan C,

  1072. and then

  1073. that's what

  1074. just goes on

  1075. the whole

  1076. time.

  1077. So,

  1078. you should

  1079. know this,

  1080. guys,

  1081. bad doctrine

  1082. hurts people

  1083. and it

  1084. dishonors God.

  1085. Alright,

  1086. it goes against

  1087. everything we

  1088. know about

  1089. the person

  1090. of God

  1091. to believe

  1092. that that's

  1093. true.

  1094. our God

  1095. is by

  1096. very nature

  1097. a planning

  1098. God.

  1099. What we

  1100. know about

  1101. God,

  1102. Scripture

  1103. teaches,

  1104. He's

  1105. omniscient,

  1106. He literally

  1107. knows all

  1108. things,

  1109. He has

  1110. perfect

  1111. knowledge

  1112. set before

  1113. Him.

  1114. He's

  1115. omnipotent,

  1116. He possesses

  1117. all the

  1118. power to

  1119. carry out

  1120. His perfect

  1121. will.

  1122. It's not

  1123. that He

  1124. has a lot

  1125. of power

  1126. and there's

  1127. some other

  1128. powers out

  1129. there,

  1130. like all

  1131. the power

  1132. that they

  1133. have is

  1134. delegated

  1135. by God

  1136. that He

  1137. could take

  1138. at any

  1139. moment.

  1140. God is

  1141. immutable,

  1142. He is

  1143. unchanging

  1144. in His

  1145. person,

  1146. in His

  1147. character,

  1148. He does

  1149. not change.

  1150. He's

  1151. unaffected

  1152. by things

  1153. we do.

  1154. So,

  1155. nothing sneaks

  1156. up on Him

  1157. or catches

  1158. Him off

  1159. guard.

  1160. So,

  1161. in one way,

  1162. the answer

  1163. is no,

  1164. God was

  1165. not caught

  1166. off guard

  1167. because it

  1168. goes against

  1169. what we

  1170. know about

  1171. the very

  1172. nature

  1173. of God

  1174. Himself.

  1175. It's

  1176. not there.

  1177. So,

  1178. I know

  1179. that as a

  1180. whole,

  1181. our church

  1182. rejoices in

  1183. and embraces

  1184. the sovereignty

  1185. of God

  1186. over all

  1187. things,

  1188. but I

  1189. know that

  1190. with a

  1191. crowd this

  1192. big,

  1193. it might

  1194. not sit

  1195. right with

  1196. some of

  1197. you,

  1198. but I'm

  1199. going to

  1200. tell you,

  1201. you can

  1202. kick and

  1203. punch and

  1204. hate that

  1205. truth that

  1206. God literally

  1207. reigns over

  1208. everything,

  1209. including the

  1210. air you breathe

  1211. and the grass

  1212. that grows,

  1213. or you can

  1214. embrace it and

  1215. let it be your

  1216. biggest joy and

  1217. your biggest

  1218. comfort.

  1219. my mom's

  1220. here today,

  1221. and we

  1222. all have

  1223. walked through

  1224. some very

  1225. difficult trials

  1226. in our lives,

  1227. most of them

  1228. my fault,

  1229. being sick and

  1230. being in the

  1231. hospital,

  1232. and right now

  1233. my dad is in

  1234. the hospital,

  1235. and she will

  1236. tell you,

  1237. I will tell you

  1238. that this

  1239. has been the

  1240. number one

  1241. truth that

  1242. has comforted

  1243. us throughout

  1244. all that time,

  1245. and so you

  1246. can mock that

  1247. or you can

  1248. embrace it and

  1249. experience the

  1250. same reality.

  1251. So, it's no

  1252. different in the

  1253. language used of

  1254. the death of

  1255. Christ.

  1256. Here it is

  1257. before us.

  1258. After the

  1259. disaster in

  1260. Eden, God

  1261. did not begin

  1262. devising a

  1263. plan, saying

  1264. darn, I

  1265. messed up,

  1266. oh I know

  1267. what I'll do,

  1268. I'll send

  1269. Jesus, Jesus

  1270. are you cool

  1271. with that?

  1272. Okay, I'll

  1273. go.

  1274. That's not

  1275. what happened.

  1276. God has

  1277. written the

  1278. pages of

  1279. history according

  1280. to His

  1281. plan, and

  1282. including, this

  1283. should give you

  1284. chills, like

  1285. including the

  1286. cross of

  1287. Christ.

  1288. It says in

  1289. 23, Jesus

  1290. delivered up

  1291. according to

  1292. the definite

  1293. plan and

  1294. foreknowledge of

  1295. God.

  1296. The word

  1297. definite means

  1298. predetermined,

  1299. appointed,

  1300. designed,

  1301. decreed.

  1302. It literally

  1303. means to set

  1304. out boundaries

  1305. for which

  1306. something is

  1307. going to

  1308. happen.

  1309. And so the

  1310. word foreknowledge,

  1311. I don't know

  1312. why maybe some

  1313. other guys here

  1314. who have been

  1315. seminaried and

  1316. studied Greek

  1317. can explain

  1318. better than

  1319. me, like

  1320. why our

  1321. English

  1322. translations

  1323. really use

  1324. the word

  1325. foreknowledge.

  1326. Because most

  1327. of us think

  1328. it means to

  1329. look down

  1330. throughout

  1331. history and

  1332. observe something

  1333. that's going

  1334. to happen.

  1335. We look down

  1336. and we see

  1337. what's going

  1338. to happen,

  1339. and then we

  1340. react accordingly.

  1341. But it's not

  1342. really how the

  1343. Bible uses it

  1344. at all.

  1345. It means to

  1346. be foreknown

  1347. or foreordained.

  1348. So certainly

  1349. God knows

  1350. what's going to

  1351. happen in the

  1352. future.

  1353. He certainly

  1354. knows that,

  1355. but that's not

  1356. what this is

  1357. saying.

  1358. Foreknowledge

  1359. is in Bible

  1360. terms means

  1361. that in

  1362. eternity past,

  1363. God looked

  1364. down and

  1365. decided what

  1366. He was going

  1367. to do.

  1368. He planned

  1369. it.

  1370. He executed

  1371. it.

  1372. It means that

  1373. God planned

  1374. before, but

  1375. not that He

  1376. observed before.

  1377. So later on,

  1378. you see down in

  1379. where is it?

  1380. Let me find this.

  1381. It just came to

  1382. my mind.

  1383. It says that

  1384. David foresaw.

  1385. See that in

  1386. our text?

  1387. This is a

  1388. different word.

  1389. It does mean

  1390. that David in

  1391. his finite

  1392. human way

  1393. could look

  1394. ahead and see

  1395. what was going

  1396. to happen,

  1397. knowing that

  1398. the Christ

  1399. would come.

  1400. That's not

  1401. the same word

  1402. as foreknowledge.

  1403. God had a

  1404. plan before

  1405. the foundation

  1406. of the world.

  1407. Read Ephesians

  1408. 1.

  1409. It says before

  1410. the foundation

  1411. of the world

  1412. this was planned.

  1413. Before reading,

  1414. Christ was

  1415. foreordained to

  1416. come before

  1417. the foundation

  1418. of the world

  1419. to be the

  1420. sacrifice for

  1421. our sins.

  1422. But wait a

  1423. minute.

  1424. In our text,

  1425. it says that

  1426. men crucified

  1427. him.

  1428. Men killed

  1429. him.

  1430. Okay, well

  1431. whose plan

  1432. was it?

  1433. Was it man's

  1434. plan to kill

  1435. Christ or was

  1436. it God's

  1437. plan?

  1438. The answer

  1439. is yes.

  1440. Alright?

  1441. So here's

  1442. something so

  1443. chilling.

  1444. Hold your

  1445. hand in Acts

  1446. 2, but look

  1447. over two

  1448. chapters to

  1449. Acts 4.

  1450. I'm going to

  1451. show you

  1452. something here.

  1453. And I'm

  1454. going to take

  1455. a sip of

  1456. water.

  1457. Alright, so

  1458. Peter, he

  1459. says that

  1460. Christ's death

  1461. was planned,

  1462. it was

  1463. foreordained

  1464. by Almighty

  1465. God.

  1466. But then he

  1467. adds, you

  1468. crucified him

  1469. and you

  1470. killed him

  1471. by the

  1472. hands of

  1473. lawless

  1474. men.

  1475. What?

  1476. Okay, so

  1477. which one

  1478. is it?

  1479. God or

  1480. man?

  1481. The answer

  1482. is yes.

  1483. Jesus was

  1484. killed by

  1485. lawless,

  1486. wicked,

  1487. sinful men

  1488. who hated

  1489. him and

  1490. rejected him

  1491. as the

  1492. Messiah.

  1493. The very

  1494. crowd that

  1495. Peter is

  1496. addressing are

  1497. those men.

  1498. At the

  1499. same time

  1500. though,

  1501. Peter tells

  1502. them that

  1503. what they

  1504. did was in

  1505. the boundaries

  1506. of what God

  1507. had accomplished

  1508. and preordained

  1509. to bring

  1510. salvation.

  1511. Here's another

  1512. parallel text.

  1513. This one's

  1514. even more

  1515. startling to

  1516. me.

  1517. Acts 4

    Acts 4:24

  1518. verse 24.

  1519. It says,

  1520. and when they

  1521. heard it,

  1522. they lifted

  1523. their voices

  1524. together to

  1525. God and

  1526. said,

  1527. Sovereign

  1528. Lord,

  1529. who made

  1530. the heaven

  1531. and the

  1532. earth,

  1533. the sea,

  1534. and everything

  1535. is in

  1536. them.

  1537. Alright,

  1538. so he

  1539. begins by

  1540. saying God

  1541. is sovereign.

  1542. He is

  1543. Lord over

  1544. all.

  1545. But we're

  1546. trying to

  1547. communicate

  1548. now.

  1549. He says,

  1550. Who threw

  1551. the mouth

  1552. of our

  1553. father David,

  1554. your servant,

  1555. said by the

  1556. Holy Spirit,

  1557. and he quotes

  1558. Psalm 2,

  1559. the second

  1560. Psalm,

  1561. Why did

  1562. the Gentiles

  1563. rage in

  1564. the people's

  1565. plot in

  1566. vain?

  1567. The kings

  1568. of the earth

  1569. set themselves

  1570. and their

  1571. rulers were

  1572. gathered together

  1573. against the

  1574. Lord and

  1575. against his

  1576. anointed.

  1577. That's

  1578. Jesus.

  1579. For

  1580. truly in

  1581. this city

  1582. they were

  1583. gathered

  1584. together

  1585. against

  1586. your

  1587. holy

  1588. servant

  1589. Jesus,

  1590. whom you

  1591. appointed,

  1592. both Herod

  1593. and Pontius

  1594. Pilate,

  1595. along with

  1596. the Gentiles

  1597. and the

  1598. peoples of

  1599. Israel,

  1600. and here

  1601. it is,

  1602. to do

  1603. whatever

  1604. your hand

  1605. and your

  1606. plan

  1607. had

  1608. predestined

  1609. to take

  1610. place.

  1611. Startling

  1612. words.

  1613. The

  1614. American

  1615. Standard

  1616. Version

  1617. says,

  1618. to do

  1619. whatever

  1620. thy

  1621. hand

  1622. and thy

  1623. counsel

  1624. foreordained

  1625. to come

  1626. to pass.

  1627. So do you

  1628. hear that?

  1629. Like,

  1630. Herod,

  1631. Pontius Pilate,

  1632. the Gentiles,

  1633. the people of

  1634. Israel,

  1635. they all

  1636. gather together.

  1637. He was

  1638. fulfilling this

  1639. prophecy in

  1640. the second

  1641. psalm.

  1642. They gather

  1643. together to

  1644. put an end

  1645. to God's

  1646. Messiah.

  1647. Like,

  1648. this is not

  1649. going to

  1650. happen.

  1651. He is not

  1652. going to

  1653. rule over

  1654. us.

  1655. and their

  1656. vile

  1657. actions,

  1658. literally

  1659. they know,

  1660. fulfilling

  1661. prophecy.

  1662. Right?

  1663. They were

  1664. fulfilling

  1665. what God

  1666. had planned

  1667. before creation

  1668. and predestined

  1669. to take

  1670. place to

  1671. accomplish

  1672. salvation

  1673. for His

  1674. people.

  1675. So the

  1676. cross was

  1677. not an

  1678. emergency

  1679. reactionary

  1680. plan of

  1681. God to

  1682. save man.

  1683. That would

  1684. scare you.

  1685. Can you

  1686. imagine walking

  1687. throughout your

  1688. life not

  1689. knowing that

  1690. God was in

  1691. control?

  1692. That anybody

  1693. could come

  1694. and do

  1695. something to

  1696. you and

  1697. God was

  1698. like,

  1699. oh,

  1700. I'm sorry,

  1701. I was too

  1702. late to

  1703. fix this.

  1704. It's not

  1705. true.

  1706. In Ephesians

  1707. 1 it says

  1708. God works

  1709. all things

  1710. after the

  1711. counsel of

  1712. His will.

  1713. All things

  1714. after the

  1715. counsel of

  1716. His will.

  1717. Job later

  1718. on says,

  1719. I know

  1720. that no

  1721. purpose of

  1722. yours can

  1723. be thwarted.

  1724. This is

  1725. God.

  1726. So here's

  1727. an insight

  1728. into this

  1729. event that

  1730. we're talking

  1731. about,

  1732. the death

  1733. of Christ.

  1734. One of

  1735. the books

  1736. that I've

  1737. read in

  1738. the past

  1739. and facing

  1740. stuff I've

  1741. faced is a

  1742. book by

  1743. John Piper

  1744. called

  1745. Suffering and

  1746. the Sovereignty

  1747. of God.

  1748. And he

  1749. uses this

  1750. text and

  1751. the ones

  1752. that we're

  1753. looking at

  1754. to describe

  1755. the cross

  1756. and what

  1757. happened at

  1758. the cross

  1759. to give

  1760. people who

  1761. are reading

  1762. that

  1763. encouragement.

  1764. But he

  1765. says,

  1766. this is a

  1767. quote,

  1768. he says,

  1769. God did

  1770. not just

  1771. overcome evil

  1772. at the

  1773. cross.

  1774. He made

  1775. evil serve

  1776. the overcoming

  1777. of evil.

  1778. He made

  1779. evil commit

  1780. suicide in

  1781. doing its

  1782. worst evil.

  1783. In the death

  1784. of Christ,

  1785. the powers of

  1786. darkness did

  1787. their best to

  1788. destroy the

  1789. glory of the

  1790. Son of God.

  1791. But this is

  1792. the apex of

  1793. evil.

  1794. evil.

  1795. Instead,

  1796. they found

  1797. themselves

  1798. quoting the

  1799. script of

  1800. ancient

  1801. prophecy and

  1802. acting their

  1803. part assigned

  1804. by God.

  1805. Precisely in

  1806. putting Christ

  1807. to death,

  1808. they put his

  1809. glory on

  1810. display.

  1811. The very

  1812. glory that

  1813. they aimed

  1814. to destroy.

  1815. The apex of

  1816. evil achieved

  1817. the apex of

  1818. the glory of

  1819. Christ,

  1820. the glory of

  1821. his grace.

  1822. So do you

  1823. hear that?

  1824. Like, I'll

  1825. summarize it.

  1826. Yes, Jesus

  1827. was brutally

  1828. killed by

  1829. lawless,

  1830. sinful men

  1831. who hated

  1832. him.

  1833. And they

  1834. did it

  1835. freely.

  1836. They acted

  1837. in accordance

  1838. to their

  1839. own will,

  1840. which was

  1841. evil.

  1842. They put

  1843. him to

  1844. death.

  1845. They designed

  1846. that to

  1847. destroy Christ.

  1848. And there's

  1849. no greater

  1850. evil than

  1851. crucifying the

  1852. innocent Son

  1853. of God.

  1854. Okay?

  1855. So do you

  1856. hear what he's

  1857. saying,

  1858. though?

  1859. Man killed

  1860. him, but

  1861. listen to

  1862. this.

  1863. 700 years

  1864. before this

  1865. happened, God

  1866. spoke to

  1867. Isaiah and

  1868. it says,

  1869. it was the

  1870. will of

  1871. the Lord

  1872. to crush

  1873. him and

  1874. to put him

  1875. to grief.

  1876. They were

  1877. fulfilling

  1878. prophecy.

  1879. This was

  1880. God's plan.

  1881. So here it

  1882. is.

  1883. Listen carefully.

  1884. Scripture

  1885. clearly,

  1886. unashamedly,

  1887. irrevocably,

  1888. says that

  1889. God

  1890. sovereignly

  1891. uses,

  1892. okay, all

  1893. these things.

  1894. He even

  1895. uses the

  1896. free and

  1897. willful acts

  1898. of evil

  1899. men to

  1900. play right

  1901. into what

  1902. he wants

  1903. every time.

  1904. Like the

  1905. Psalms say,

  1906. or the

  1907. Proverbs,

  1908. the wicked

  1909. fall into

  1910. their own

  1911. traps.

  1912. God uses

  1913. their evil

  1914. to accomplish

  1915. good.

  1916. It echoes

  1917. of Genesis,

  1918. right, with

  1919. Joseph and

  1920. his brothers.

  1921. You meant

  1922. this, you

  1923. designed this

  1924. for evil,

  1925. but God

  1926. designed this

  1927. and meant

  1928. this for

  1929. good.

  1930. That's the

  1931. story of

  1932. the Scripture.

  1933. It's not

  1934. God had a

  1935. plan B,

  1936. this was

  1937. plan A,

  1938. and he

  1939. used these

  1940. free and

  1941. willful evil

  1942. actions of

  1943. men to

  1944. commit the

  1945. greatest good.

  1946. That should

  1947. just bring us

  1948. chills.

  1949. All right,

  1950. in doing

  1951. this, the

  1952. greatest act

  1953. of evil

  1954. destroyed evil.

  1955. That's what

  1956. Piper's saying.

  1957. And God

  1958. uses the

  1959. greatest sin

  1960. ever in

  1961. crucifying the

  1962. Son of

  1963. God as

  1964. the means

  1965. for overcoming

  1966. sin forever.

  1967. So how

  1968. great is

  1969. our God?

  1970. How glorious

  1971. is He?

  1972. Christ was

  1973. delivered to

  1974. death because

  1975. God planned

  1976. it, God

  1977. ordained it,

  1978. and He did

  1979. it to bring

  1980. salvation to

  1981. His people

  1982. and to

  1983. display the

  1984. infinite majesty

  1985. and glory of

  1986. Christ.

  1987. God uses

  1988. evil to

  1989. destroy evil.

  1990. And that

  1991. was, this

  1992. is it, this

  1993. was the apex

  1994. of that.

  1995. The cross,

  1996. preordained,

  1997. predestined to

  1998. take place,

  1999. to bring us

  2000. salvation.

  2001. All right,

  2002. so the

  2003. fourth thing

  2004. is number

  2005. four, the

  2006. resurrection

  2007. of the

  2008. Messiah.

  2009. Look at

  2010. 24 through

  2011. 33.

  2012. It's a big

  2013. text, so just

  2014. for time's sake,

  2015. I'm not going to

2016. read it all to you

  2017. again, but it's

  2018. 24 through

  2019. 33.

  2020. And through

  2021. the death of

  2022. Christ, okay,

  2023. one of the

  2024. greatest ways

  2025. that God

  2026. displayed and

  2027. proved that He

  2028. was the

  2029. Messiah was

  2030. that He

  2031. raised Him

  2032. from the

  2033. dead.

  2034. That's the

  2035. greatest validation

  2036. that Jesus was

  2037. not just kidding

  2038. around, that He

  2039. wasn't just

  2040. joking around

  2041. and saying

  2042. things, making

  2043. these outrageous

  2044. claims.

  2045. Because if He

  2046. had died and

  2047. He was in the

  2048. grave, then it

  2049. would be no

  2050. different than

  2051. any other

  2052. self-proclaimed

  2053. Messiah.

  2054. No different

  2055. than Muhammad.

  2056. No different

  2057. than Buddha.

  2058. There's nothing

  2059. good about a

  2060. dead Messiah.

  2061. And as Paul

  2062. said later on,

  2063. we're going to

  2064. look at the

  2065. resurrection some

  2066. more next week,

  2067. but as Paul

  2068. said, like if

  2069. Christ is not

  2070. risen, then you

  2071. are still dead

  2072. in your sin.

  2073. It's so

  2074. important.

  2075. And I love,

  2076. love just the

  2077. looking at the

  2078. resurrection of

  2079. Christ and how

  2080. it almost can

  2081. be proven in

  2082. the courtroom

  2083. how Jesus

  2084. actually did

  2085. rise from

  2086. the dead.

  2087. It's just

  2088. indisputable.

  2089. Right?

  2090. So, it goes

  2091. on and it

  2092. says that

  2093. Christ raised

  2094. Him from the

  2095. dead.

  2096. It wasn't

  2097. possible for

  2098. Him to be

  2099. held by

  2100. death.

  2101. And then He

  2102. uses Scripture

  2103. again to

  2104. prove what

  2105. He's saying.

  2106. He uses

  2107. David again

  2108. saying David

  2109. was a prophet

  2110. and David

  2111. foretold of

  2112. this event

  2113. of the

  2114. resurrection

  2115. of the

  2116. Messiah.

  2117. Okay?

  2118. This is Psalm

  2119. 16 that

  2120. he's quoting.

  2121. It says,

  2122. David foresaw,

  2123. different than

  2124. foreknowledge,

  2125. about God

  2126. raising Jesus

  2127. from the

  2128. dead.

  2129. And it

  2130. made it

  2131. clear.

  2132. So, a lot

  2133. of people may

  2134. read Psalm

  2135. 16 and

  2136. think that

  2137. David is

  2138. referring to

  2139. himself when

  2140. he wrote

  2141. that.

  2142. He's not.

  2143. And the

  2144. reason why is

  2145. right here,

  2146. Peter says,

  2147. oh, it

  2148. wasn't about

  2149. David because

  2150. David's body

  2151. did see

  2152. corruption.

  2153. He did

  2154. die.

  2155. He's buried

  2156. right over

  2157. there.

  2158. Going, look,

  2159. this wasn't

  2160. about David.

  2161. David was

  2162. prophesying about

  2163. the descendant

  2164. that God

  2165. had promised

  2166. to raise up

  2167. to be ruler

  2168. over all.

  2169. And he was

  2170. saying this

  2171. was Jesus,

  2172. the Messiah.

  2173. He did not

  2174. see corruption.

  2175. He lives.

  2176. David's body

  2177. is here,

  2178. but Christ's

  2179. body is not

  2180. here.

  2181. David knew

  2182. what would

  2183. happen.

  2184. Jesus was

  2185. the direct

  2186. descendant

  2187. of King

  2188. David.

  2189. Look in

  2190. the Gospel

  2191. of Matthew,

  2192. the Gospel

  2193. of Luke,

  2194. and you see

  2195. the genealogies

  2196. there.

  2197. Jesus was

  2198. the Messiah,

  2199. and one day

  2200. he would be

  2201. the eternal

  2202. ruler,

  2203. not just of

  2204. Israel,

  2205. but of the

  2206. nations again.

  2207. So God

  2208. raised Christ

  2209. by the power

  2210. of God,

  2211. and now it

  2212. says he's

  2213. seated at

  2214. the right

  2215. hand of

  2216. the Father,

  2217. ruling and

  2218. reigning.

  2219. We'll talk

  2220. more about

  2221. that next

  2222. week as

  2223. well.

  2224. But then

  2225. he adds,

  2226. we're witness

  2227. to these

  2228. things.

  2229. We saw

  2230. these things.

  2231. We who

  2232. were hiding

  2233. and scared

  2234. and cowering

  2235. in the

  2236. corner after

  2237. this happened,

  2238. now we're

  2239. on the streets

  2240. telling you

  2241. that we

  2242. don't care

  2243. anymore.

  2244. Like,

  2245. Jesus is

  2246. alive,

  2247. and we're

  2248. going to

  2249. proclaim that

  2250. to you.

  2251. So the

  2252. greatest

  2253. validation or

  2254. proof of

  2255. Jesus as

  2256. the Messiah

  2257. was he

  2258. is alive.

  2259. He has

  2260. risen from

  2261. the dead.

  2262. So,

  2263. in conclusion,

  2264. religion,

  2265. if you're

  2266. without

  2267. Christ

  2268. today,

  2269. know that

  2270. God will

  2271. allow you

  2272. to go

  2273. on pursuing

  2274. money,

  2275. success,

  2276. all the

  2277. things of

  2278. this world,

  2279. like just

  2280. go hard

  2281. at it as

  2282. you want.

  2283. But one

  2284. day,

  2285. this Christ

  2286. whom God

  2287. raised from

  2288. the dead,

  2289. you will

  2290. have to

  2291. reckon

  2292. with him

  2293. one day.

  2294. You will

  2295. have to

  2296. face him

  2297. one day.

  2298. And if

  2299. he's dead,

  2300. no worry.

  2301. But if

  2302. he's alive,

  2303. you better

  2304. make sure.

  2305. He's alive

  2306. and he's

  2307. going to

  2308. come back

  2309. to judge

  2310. and to

  2311. make war

  2312. and to

  2313. give life

  2314. to those

  2315. who have

  2316. put their

  2317. total trust,

  2318. who have

  2319. given them

  2320. their lives.

  2321. Peter says,

  2322. we saw

  2323. these things

  2324. and we

  2325. know it's

  2326. true.

  2327. Only then

  2328. that will

  2329. be too

  2330. late.

  2331. So flee

  2332. to Christ

  2333. and accept

  2334. the free

  2335. gift of

  2336. his grace.

  2337. Turn away

  2338. from your

  2339. sins and

  2340. don't look

  2341. back.

  2342. Follow

  2343. Christ.

  2344. He's

  2345. worthy.

  2346. He's

  2347. good.

  2348. He will

  2349. treat you

  2350. so well.

  2351. The world

  2352. and sin

  2353. is a brutal

  2354. taskmaster.

  2355. Flee to

  2356. Christ.

  2357. He is

  2358. alive and

  2359. he is

  2360. here.

  2361. You don't

  2362. have to

  2363. look him

  2364. up.

  2365. He's

  2366. right here.

  2367. And we

  2368. don't need

  2369. an altar

  2370. call because

  2371. you can

  2372. deal with

  2373. God

  2374. sitting

  2375. right

  2376. where

  2377. you

  2378. are.

  2379. And

  2380. believer,

  2381. brother,

  2382. sister in

  2383. Christ,

  2384. rejoice that

  2385. your

  2386. sovereign

  2387. father

  2388. has

  2389. got it.

  2390. He's

  2391. got it.

  2392. He's

  2393. holding

  2394. you.

  2395. He has

  2396. saved you.

  2397. No one

  2398. can snatch

  2399. you from

  2400. his hand.

  2401. And he's

  2402. used the

  2403. greatest act

  2404. of evil

  2405. to destroy

  2406. evil.

  2407. Evil will

  2408. one day

  2409. be no

  2410. more.

  2411. And our

  2412. savior is

  2413. living and

  2414. is here

  2415. with us

  2416. today.

  2417. and he

  2418. reigns for

  2419. our

  2420. good and

  2421. for

  2422. his

  2423. glory.

  2424. And so

  2425. next week

  2426. we'll

  2427. finish

  2428. this part

  2429. of Peter's

  2430. sermon.

  2431. But I

  2432. hope that

  2433. you've been

  2434. encouraged.

  2435. Just know

  2436. that your

  2437. God is

  2438. in control,

  2439. that he is

  2440. sovereign,

  2441. and that

  2442. Christ has

  2443. died on

  2444. your behalf.

  2445. Let's pray

  2446. together.

  2447. here.
