  1. Thank you, Caleb and crew. I'm pretty sure at some point in history, the number one criteria for the writing of a Christmas song was that it'd be difficult to sing.

  2. ! Please turn with me to 1 Peter chapter 1.

    1 Peter 1 chapter mention

  3. As previously stated in today's gathering, today marks the first Lord's Day of our Advent season.

  4. The word Advent is from the Latin Adventus, which simply means coming, or I prefer, arrival.

  5. Our tradition of lighting Advent candles and preaching sermons concerning the topics of each candle is aimed at helping us place Jesus Christ at the very center of our holiday season.

  6. Now, I know that because you have gathered with a Christian church this morning, it is most likely that you are very aware that Christmas is the celebration of the coming of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

  7. I know that some of you may be thinking that our Advent practice is an exercise in redundancy.

  8. But I also know how very fickle our hearts can be.

  9. While giving Jesus lip service during this season, we, just like the world, so often get wrapped up into all the trappings that accompany it.

  10. We stress ourselves through all of its busyness.

  11. We get distracted by the glitz and glimmer of lesser things.

  12. And we functionally forget what the incarnation of God means for today.

  13. What it means for this month.

  14. And what it means for next year.

  15. We are so forgetful.

  16. So we need reminders.

  17. I am repetitive because we are slow learners.

  18. My prayer for us this morning is that we will be reminded of Jesus Christ's immeasurable worth so that we will treasure him as we ought, as we consider the hope that is ours in him.

  19. J.I. Packer once said,

  20. The Christian message is that there is hope for a ruined humanity.

  21. Hope of pardon.

  22. Hope of peace with God.

  23. Hope of glory.

  24. Because at the Father's will, Jesus became poor and was born in a stable so that 30 years later he might hang on a cross.

  25. Our text for this morning is 1 Peter 1, verses 3 through 5.

    1 Peter 1:3–5

  26. And before I read this for our benefit, beloved, let me remind you that this is God's word to us.

  27. It was written for his glory and for our good.

  28. And we would all do well to listen to it in order to believe its promises and obey its commands.

  29. 1 Peter 1, verse 3 and following.

    1 Peter 1:3

  30. Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.

  31. According to his great mercy, he has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead.

  32. To an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for you,

  33. who by God's power are being guarded through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.

  34. Our study this morning will be outlined in the following three points.

  35. Number one, the praiseworthiness of God.

  36. That's right, note takers.

  37. The praiseworthiness of God.

  38. Number two, the hopelessness of mankind.

  39. And number three, the hope of the born again.

  40. So number one, the praiseworthiness of God.

  41. Peter begins the body of his epistle with a phrase of praise to God.

  42. Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.

  43. But what does Peter mean by saying blessed?

  44. Blessed.

  45. We use that word in ways much like hope and we'll see joy and peace and love across this coming month.

  46. That the Bible does not use it.

  47. This is not the Greek word translated in other places in the Bible as blessed.

  48. We may read it, but rather blessed, meaning happy or fortunate.

  49. This is an entirely different Greek word, which means praised.

  50. So it could be read, praised be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.

  51. The indicative mood of the Greek word for blessed is used instead of the optative mood.

  52. Don't write any of that down.

  53. The optative mood is used to express a wish.

  54. The indicative mood is used to make factual statements.

  55. So not the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ be blessed,

  56. but rather the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ is blessed.

  57. In our Bible reading from two weeks ago in the book of Ruth,

  58. when Ruth returns after gathering barley in the field of Boaz and Naomi sees what she was able to bring home,

  59. Naomi exclaims,

  60. Blessed be the man who took notice of you.

  61. This is from Ruth 2.19.

  62. Naomi is not wishing fortune on Boaz,

  63. but rather praising him for his generosity toward Ruth.

  64. Peter's doing the very same thing here.

  65. Blessed be.

  66. Praised be.

  67. He is, in fact, to be.

  68. Because of the text that will follow.

  69. Peter begins with an exclamation of God's praiseworthiness

  70. before elaborating on his reason for praise.

  71. But the rest of our text does just that.

  72. Why is it that God is so praiseworthy?

  73. 27 times in the Old Testament,

  74. the phrase Baruch Adonai is used.

  75. Blessed be God.

  76. So it was a very common way to give praise to God.

  77. But here Peter adds something pivotal,

  78. something extremely important to this phrase.

  79. He adds,

  80. and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.

  81. In John 5.18,

  82. amongst many other places,

  83. this is recorded by John of what Jesus claimed of himself.

  84. This was why the Jews were seeking all the more to kill him.

  85. Why?

  86. Because not only was he breaking the Sabbath,

  87. but he was even calling God his own Father,

  88. making himself equal with God.

  89. And so what Peter is saying is that we now relate to God

  90. through his Son, Jesus Christ.

  91. Jesus is God incarnate.

  92. And all those who will worship God rightly

  93. will worship him through his Son.

  94. And because of all that was accomplished by his Son.

  95. Which is what Peter is going on to elaborate

  96. in the following writ.

  97. The point being,

  98. theology should lead us to doxology.

  99. Rightly understanding who God is

  100. should move us to rightly praise him.

  101. This book was not written for us

  102. to merely know things about God.

  103. If we see him rightly by this book,

  104. then we will know him,

  105. and we will be known by him,

  106. and this will necessitate our praise.

  107. So do not miss the praiseworthiness of God

  108. this morning.

  109. Secondly,

  110. let's look in brief at the hopelessness of mankind.

  111. In order to see this point from this text,

  112. we need to read a bit through it.

  113. Peter says in verse 3,

  114. according to his, God's great mercy,

  115. he has caused us to be born again.

  116. Mercy is compassion shown where wrath is due.

  117. We would have no need of mercy

  118. if we had not transgressed God's law.

  119. Had we not rejected him as our king,

  120. doing what is right in our own eyes,

  121. things would be all good.

  122. But we have.

  123. All mankind has acted with great wickedness.

  124. Apart from Christ,

  125. you and I are not all right.

  126. The apostle Paul wrote in Ephesians chapter 2,

    Ephesians 2:12

  127. verse 12,

  128. of the Ephesian believers

  129. before Jesus' intervention in their life,

  130. he said this,

  131. remember that you were at that time separated from Christ,

  132. alienated from the commonwealth of Israel

  133. and strangers to the covenants of promise,

  134. having no hope and without God in the world.

  135. So to be apart from God,

  136. the true God that we worship through Jesus Christ,

  137. is to be hopeless.

  138. Apart from the mercy of God

  139. and the personal work of Jesus Christ,

  140. mankind is utterly hopeless

  141. because their end is destruction.

  142. Paul wrote to the Philippians,

  143. Philippians 3, verse 18, part of 19,

    Philippians 3:18

  144. many of whom I have often told you

  145. and now tell you even with tears,

  146. walk as enemies of the cross of Christ.

  147. Their end is destruction.

  148. If you have not believed

  149. in Jesus' accomplished work on your behalf,

  150. you are hopeless.

  151. As you see the hope of the born again

  152. and long for the hope that we have

  153. turned from the hopelessness of mankind

  154. in repentance and faith this morning.

  155. Third, and we'll spend most of our time here,

  156. let's look at the hope of the born again.

  157. Peter tells us that God is praiseworthy

  158. because according to His great mercy,

  159. He has caused us to be born again.

  160. Notice first that it is according to His great mercy

  161. that we have been shown mercy.

  162. God is merciful.

  163. It's part of His very character.

  164. Moses wrote in Deuteronomy 4, 31,

  165. The Lord your God is a merciful God.

  166. We have nothing to offer

  167. to the equation of our new birth.

  168. So it is owing to the character of God

  169. that we receive any benefit from Him.

  170. It is because He is merciful

  171. that He shows mercy.

  172. Because of God's mercifulness toward mankind,

  173. He has caused us to be born again.

  174. Now, what does it mean to be born again?

  175. And how does this happen?

  176. I want you to turn with me to John 3.

  177. I'm going to come off of 1 Peter for a bit,

  178. but we'll get back there.

  179. So mark it if you'd like.

  180. What does it mean to be born again?

  181. And how does this happen?

  182. In John 3,

  183. Jesus has a conversation

  184. with a priest named Nicodemus.

  185. And beginning in verse 3 and following,

  186. John records,

  187. Jesus answered him,

  188. Truly, truly, I say to you,

  189. unless one is born again,

  190. he cannot see the kingdom of God.

  191. So we get some clue

  192. to what it means to be born again

  193. that in order to see the kingdom of God,

  194. we must be born again.

  195. Those who are not born again

  196. will not see the kingdom of God.

  197. Verse 4,

  198. Nicodemus said to him,

  199. how can a man be born

  200. when he is old?

  201. Can he enter a second time

  202. into his mother's womb

  203. and be born?

  204. I think this is some of the question

  205. we may have.

  206. We're going, wait a minute,

  207. what does born again mean?

  208. Verse 5,

  209. Jesus answered,

  210. Truly, truly, I say to you,

  211. unless one is born of water

  212. and the spirit,

  213. he cannot enter the kingdom of God.

  214. So clearly a different kind of birth

  215. to be had.

  216. Nicodemus said,

  217. wait a second,

  218. how is it that you're born again?

  219. And he says,

  220. no, I'm not talking about that birth.

  221. I'm talking about a different birth,

  222. a birth of the spirit.

  223. This is a spiritual being born.

  224. Verse 6,

  225. That which is born of the flesh is flesh,

  226. and that which is born of the spirit is spirit.

  227. Do not marvel that I said to you,

  228. you must be born again.

  229. So, to be born again

  230. is to be born of the spirit.

  231. Here we find the precious doctrine

  232. of regeneration.

  233. God makes us new.

  234. We do not and cannot work our way

  235. into the kingdom of God.

  236. We are not in some degree of rightness with God.

  237. We are either not justified before Him,

  238. or we are made new,

  239. regenerate,

  240. placing faith in the personal work of Jesus Christ.

  241. We are justified before God.

  242. It's positionally different.

  243. So, we see that to be positionally different,

  244. to be born again,

  245. is to be born of the spirit.

  246. In Ezekiel chapter 36, verse 27,

    Ezekiel 36:27

  247. God speaks to the prophet Ezekiel and says,

  248. And I will put my spirit within you,

  249. and cause you to walk in my statutes,

  250. and be careful to obey my rules.

  251. So, we see that this does not happen by human design.

  252. It is not our plans that cause us to be born again.

  253. It is not our willing that causes us to be born again.

  254. God, by His great mercy,

  255. has caused you to be born again.

  256. And, I will add from John 3,

  257. by the power of the Spirit.

  258. He goes on in John 3, verse 8,

    John 3:8

  259. The wind blows where it wishes,

  260. and you hear its sound,

  261. but you do not know where it comes from,

  262. or where it goes.

  263. So, Jesus is saying,

  264. the wind is a bit of a mystery.

  265. Right?

  266. We see the effect of the wind.

  267. We see it moving through.

  268. But, where does the wind come from?

  269. Where does the wind go?

  270. So, it is with everyone who is born of the Spirit.

  271. This great mystery that God works within us.

  272. New birth.

  273. So, turn back with me a bit in the book of John, chapter 1.

    John 1 chapter mention

  274. Let's continue to explore this idea a bit

  275. of what it means to be born again.

  276. Verse 12 and 13, John chapter 1.

    John 1 chapter mention

  277. To all who did receive Him,

  278. who believed in His name,

  279. He gave the right to become children of God,

  280. who were born, not of blood,

  281. nor of the will of the flesh,

  282. nor of the will of man,

  283. but of God.

  284. Okay?

  285. So, we see once again,

  286. it is not this working of ourselves,

  287. not a working of the flesh,

  288. nor of our will,

  289. but we are born.

  290. Well, what is the contingent placed upon that

  291. in John 1.12?

  292. Belief in His name.

  293. Belief in His name.

  294. And if you are familiar at all,

  295. and I hope you are in some degree

  296. with the gospel of Jesus Christ,

  297. you know that we must believe in Christ.

  298. Right?

  299. In His personhood.

  300. His name represents all of that.

  301. But how does that come to pass?

  302. Turn with me now to 1 John, chapter 5.

    1 John 5 chapter mention

  303. 1 John 1.12.

  304. It's a helpful hermeneutic principle to you

  305. as you're studying the Bible,

  306. and you see things that seem confusing.

  307. You need to go and see where else

  308. the Bible talks about these things.

  309. The Bible, God so cleverly helps us

  310. to turn an idea over

  311. and get our minds around

  312. what these phrases mean.

  313. So, 1 John, chapter 5, verse 1.

    1 John 5:1

  314. So, we're seeing that we must be born

  315. of the Spirit.

  316. God works as He causes in us

  317. this new birth,

  318. and that new birth necessitates

  319. believing in Christ,

  320. I'd say, His person and His work.

  321. You can hear me say that to you often.

  322. 1 John, chapter 5, verse 1.

    1 John 5:1

  323. John writes,

  324. Everyone who believes

  325. that Jesus is the Christ

  326. has been born of God.

  327. And everyone who loves the Father

  328. loves whoever has been born of Him.

  329. So, see what John's doing for us.

  330. Everyone who believes

  331. that Jesus is the Christ.

  332. So, there we're going back to John,

    John 1:12

  333. chapter 1, verses 12 and 13, right?

  334. Those who did receive Him,

  335. who believed in His name,

  336. He gave this right to.

  337. But in 1 John,

  338. He clarifies for us, right?

  339. Those who have been born of God

  340. believe.

  341. If we believe,

  342. if we place faith in Jesus Christ,

  343. it's because we've been born of God.

  344. You see that in 1 John 5, verse 1?

    1 John 5:1

  345. I hope you do.

  346. That's why I had you turn there to it.

  347. Everyone who believes

  348. that Jesus is the Christ

  349. has been born of God.

  350. God causes new birth

  351. by the power of the Spirit

  352. through His Word.

  353. So, He brings all of this about.

  354. It's a presentation to us.

  355. He works it in us by His Spirit,

  356. makes us new so that we will believe.

  357. And this is a highly contested doctrine

  358. in the church today.

  359. And it's altogether biblical.

  360. Go back to 1 Peter, chapter 1.

    1 Peter 1 chapter mention

  361. I want to show you the one other place

  362. that Peter uses the phrase,

  363. born again,

  364. and kind of drive it all home for you.

  365. Look down in verse 23 and following.

  366. Peter writes,

  367. Since you have been born again,

  368. not of perishable seed,

  369. but of imperishable,

  370. through, what?

  371. The living and abiding Word of God.

  372. For all flesh is like grass

  373. and all gets glory like the flower of grass.

  374. The grass withers

  375. and the flower fails,

  376. but the Word of the Lord

  377. remains forever.

  378. And this Word

  379. is the good news

  380. that was preached

  381. to you.

  382. So,

  383. God has caused us,

  384. if you have in fact been born again,

  385. He has caused you

  386. to be born again

  387. by the power of His Spirit

  388. in the proclamation

  389. of the good news

  390. of Jesus Christ.

  391. Whether you heard that in preaching,

  392. or you read it from the Scripture,

  393. or a friend told you about it,

  394. watched a well-done YouTube video,

  395. there are many ways

  396. in which the truth of Jesus Christ

  397. can be communicated to us.

  398. And the Spirit of God

  399. uses the Word of God

  400. to bring about this new birth,

  401. to cause us

  402. to believe.

  403. So,

  404. why belabor the point?

  405. I know many of you are going,

  406. yeah, yeah,

  407. like, we get it.

  408. God saved us.

  409. Why?

  410. Because Peter takes the time

  411. to do that.

  412. It's the very thing

  413. he's trying to say to us.

  414. Why?

  415. Because he wants us

  416. to say with Him,

  417. blessed be

  418. the God and Father

  419. of our Lord and Savior,

  420. Jesus Christ.

  421. Look at what He has done

  422. for me,

  423. an unworthy sinner,

  424. a wicked man.

  425. He,

  426. because of His great mercy,

  427. has caused me

  428. to be born again.

  429. Beloved,

  430. this is the fuel

  431. for Christian living

  432. that we recognize

  433. that God

  434. in His good,

  435. sovereign purpose

  436. has saved us.

  437. So,

  438. not only has He

  439. caused us to be born again,

  440. but He's caused us

  441. to be born again

  442. to

  443. a living

  444. hope.

  445. I think it is important

  446. at this point

  447. to make sure

  448. we are clear

  449. of what our Bible means

  450. when we speak

  451. of hope.

  452. I've got a quotation here

  453. from a man named

  454. R.C. Sproul

  455. that I think will serve us well

  456. to that end.

  457. He wrote,

  458. Hope is called

  459. the anchor of the soul.

  460. That's from Hebrews 6.19.

  461. because it gives stability

  462. to the Christian life.

  463. But,

  464. hope is not simply

  465. a wish.

  466. That, by the way,

  467. my wife,

  468. I found out was sick

  469. this morning.

  470. Hope is not simply

  471. a wish.

  472. I wish that such

  473. and such

  474. would take place.

  475. Rather,

  476. it is that

  477. which latches

  478. on to the certainty

  479. of the promises

  480. of the future

  481. that God

  482. has made.

  483. I'm going to read

  484. that to you again.

  485. Not simply a wish.

  486. Rather,

  487. it is that

  488. which latches

  489. on to

  490. the certainty

  491. of the promises

  492. of the future

  493. that God

  494. has made.

  495. Hope

  496. is faith

  497. in future tense.

  498. Peter tells us

  499. not only

  500. that we

  501. have

  502. this hope,

  503. but that it is

  504. a living

  505. hope.

  506. What do you

  507. suppose

  508. is meant

  509. by that?

  510. It could

  511. refer

  512. to an active

  513. hope.

  514. As in a hope

  515. in the future

  516. promises of God

  517. that will yield

  518. fruit for us

  519. today.

  520. That it means

  521. something now.

  522. It's living

  523. in that way.

  524. And I think

  525. in some measure

  526. it does

  527. mean that.

  528. It could

  529. refer to us

  530. being

  531. born again.

  532. Peter is using

  533. lots of

  534. living

  535. language here,

  536. isn't he?

  537. We're born again

  538. and he talks

  539. about it being

  540. through the

  541. resurrection

  542. of Jesus

  543. Christ.

  544. So maybe

  545. he's simply

  546. trying to

  547. characterize

  548. hope.

  549. And I also

  550. think that

  551. it could

  552. and probably

  553. does

  554. mean that.

  555. I think,

  556. however,

  557. that most

  558. directly

  559. and most

  560. importantly,

  561. it refers

  562. directly to

  563. the phrase

  564. that immediately

  565. follows

  566. through the

  567. resurrection

  568. of Jesus

  569. Christ

  570. from the

  571. dead.

  572. I think

  573. that Peter

  574. means to

  575. tell us

  576. that we

  577. have a

  578. living hope

  579. and that

  580. hope is

  581. Jesus Christ.

  582. He's alive.

  583. He is

  584. our

  585. living

  586. hope.

  587. Jesus

  588. became a

  589. man in order

  590. to live the

  591. perfect life

  592. we should

  593. have lived,

  594. to die the

  595. death that we

  596. deserved,

  597. and to

  598. defeat death

  599. by being

  600. resurrected.

  601. Christmas

  602. is aimed

  603. at

  604. Easter.

  605. Through

  606. the resurrection

  607. of Jesus

  608. Christ,

  609. Jesus

  610. Christ

  611. became

  612. the

  613. surety

  614. of all

  615. God's

  616. promises

  617. to us.

  618. You see,

  619. I think

  620. this is

  621. Peter's

  622. logic,

  623. right?

  624. Blessed

  625. be the

  626. God and

  627. Father of

  628. our Lord

  629. Jesus

  630. Christ.

  631. According

  632. to his

  633. great

  634. mercy,

  635. he has

  636. caused

  637. us

  638. to

  639. be

  640. born

  641. again.

  642. He's

  643. talking

  644. about

  645. our

  646. regeneration,

  647. our

  648. salvation

  649. to

  650. this

  651. living

  652. hope

  653. through

  654. the

  655. resurrection

  656. of

  657. Jesus

  658. Christ,

  659. who makes

  660. all of

  661. God's

  662. promises

  663. sure.

  664. Paul wrote

  665. in 2 Corinthians

    2 Corinthians 1:20

  666. chapter 1

  667. verse 20,

  668. for all the

  669. promises of

  670. God find

  671. their yes

  672. in Jesus

  673. Christ.

  674. And in

  675. 1 Timothy

  676. 1,

  677. 1,

  678. Paul opens

  679. his letter

  680. with this.

  681. Paul,

  682. the apostle

  683. of Christ

  684. Jesus,

  685. by command

  686. of our

  687. God,

  688. our Savior,

  689. and of

  690. Christ

  691. Jesus,

  692. our hope.

  693. So,

  694. we have

  695. a living

  696. hope,

  697. which is

  698. our

  699. resurrected

  700. Savior.

  701. Everything

  702. that follows

  703. in verses

  704. 4 and

  705. 5,

  706. I believe,

  707. elaborate on

  708. this idea

  709. of being

  710. born again

  711. to a

  712. living

  713. hope.

  714. Now,

  715. if we

  716. were

  717. working

  718. and doing

  719. verse-by-verse

  720. exposition

  721. through 1 Peter,

  722. at this point,

  723. I would say,

  724. and next week,

  725. we will see

  726. those things.

  727. This would be

  728. the part

  729. 2 of

  730. 1 Peter 3

  731. through 5,

  732. but we're not

  733. right now.

  734. We're working

  735. through the

  736. Advent season.

  737. I want you

  738. to see that

  739. we have

  740. this living

  741. hope,

  742. which is

  743. Christ.

  744. This is the

  745. prominent thing

  746. we want to

  747. have on our

  748. minds,

  749. but I

  750. don't want

  751. to leave

  752. you hanging

  753. for the

  754. last two

  755. verses.

  756. So,

  757. in brief,

  758. let me try

  759. to pack

  760. this in

  761. before we

  762. move on

  763. and do

  764. baptisms

  765. here soon.

  766. So,

  767. elaborating on

  768. this idea

  769. of a

  770. living

  771. hope,

  772. one,

  773. we see

  774. that through

  775. Christ,

  776. we have

  777. an

  778. inheritance.

  779. Peter says

  780. it is an

  781. inheritance that

  782. is imperishable,

  783. undefiled,

  784. and unfading,

  785. and it is

  786. kept in

  787. heaven for

  788. you.

  789. We have

  790. an

  791. immortal,

  792. perfect,

  793. forever

  794. inheritance,

  795. and it is

  796. secured in

  797. heaven for

  798. us.

  799. We have

  800. a much

  801. greater and

  802. grander

  803. thing that

  804. awaits us

  805. beyond this

  806. place.

  807. I would love

  808. at this point

  809. to make an

  810. elaborate case

  811. to you that

  812. Jesus Christ

  813. himself is

  814. that inheritance,

  815. but I'll

  816. digress for

  817. now.

  818. But this is

  819. why we are

  820. instructed in

  821. places like

  822. Matthew chapter

  823. six to

  824. store it for

  825. ourselves,

  826. treasure in

  827. heaven,

  828. where moth

  829. and rust

  830. do not

  831. destroy,

  832. rather than

  833. here on

  834. earth where

  835. moth and

  836. rust destroys

  837. and where

  838. thieves break

  839. in and

  840. steal.

  841. We have

  842. an inheritance

  843. that is being

  844. kept for

  845. us.

  846. Secondly,

  847. through Christ

  848. we have a

  849. security.

  850. Verse five

  851. says that by

  852. God's power

  853. we are being

  854. guarded through

  855. faith for a

  856. salvation ready

  857. to be revealed

  858. in the last

  859. time,

  860. that final

  861. day when we

  862. are glorified,

  863. when we

  864. persevere and

  865. are preserved

  866. to the very

  867. end.

  868. Those who

  869. God saves,

  870. he keeps.

  871. And remember,

  872. he has

  873. caused us to

  874. be born again.

  875. Rejoice in

  876. God's sovereignty

  877. and your salvation

  878. because it is

  879. a sure thing.

  880. If you are

  881. his, you

  882. are his

  883. forever.

  884. In John

    John 10:28–30

  885. chapter 10

  886. verses 28

  887. through 30,

  888. Jesus said,

  889. I give my

  890. sheep eternal

  891. life and

  892. they will never

  893. perish and no

  894. one will snatch

  895. them out of my

  896. hand.

  897. My father who

  898. has given them

  899. to me is

  900. greater than

  901. all and no

  902. one is able to

  903. snatch them out

  904. of the father's

  905. hand.

  906. I and the

  907. father are

  908. one.

  909. What a

  910. precious,

  911. truth that

  912. we are

  913. secure forever

  914. in him if

  915. we are his.

  916. Paul wrote

  917. in Philippians

    Philippians 1:6

  918. chapter 1

  919. verse 6,

  920. and I am

  921. sure of

  922. this,

  923. that he who

  924. began a good

  925. work in you

  926. will bring it

  927. to completion

  928. at the day

  929. of Jesus

  930. Christ.

  931. And so we

  932. have,

  933. through Christ,

  934. this inheritance

  935. and this

  936. security.

  937. We have a

  938. living hope

  939. and a

  940. careful

  941. consideration

  942. and reflection

  943. on this

  944. ought to

  945. lift our

  946. eyes from

  947. the din of

  948. this world

  949. across the

  950. next month

  951. in order to

  952. praise God's

  953. name.

  954. name.

  955. So those

  956. who God

  957. has caused

  958. to be born

  959. again have

  960. the living

  961. hope to

  962. the resurrection

  963. of Jesus

  964. Christ from

  965. the dead

  966. and a

  967. perfect

  968. inheritance

  969. kept in

  970. heaven for

  971. us.

  972. And we

  973. are being

  974. guarded

  975. through faith

  976. by God's

  977. power to

  978. the end.

  979. this is

  980. why we

  981. join with

  982. Peter and

  983. the church

  984. past and

  985. present and

  986. the chorus

  987. of heaven

  988. in saying

  989. blessed be

  990. the God

  991. and father

  992. of our

  993. Lord Jesus

  994. Christ.

  995. Beloved,

  996. this Christmas

  997. season may

  998. it be true

  999. of us that

  1000. we will be

  1001. a people who

  1002. experience the

  1003. living hope

  1004. of the gospel

  1005. of Jesus

  1006. Christ.

  1007. Display the

  1008. living hope

  1009. of the gospel

  1010. of Jesus

  1011. Christ and

  1012. proclaim the

  1013. living hope

  1014. of the gospel

  1015. of Jesus

  1016. Christ.

  1017. May it be

  1018. true of us

  1019. this Christmas

  1020. season that

  1021. we will be

  1022. a people who

  1023. say with

  1024. all that we

  1025. feel and

  1026. do and

  1027. speak,

  1028. blessed be

  1029. the God

  1030. and father

  1031. of our

  1032. Lord Jesus

  1033. Christ.

  1034. Join me in

  1035. prayer.
