  1. Please take out your copy of God's Word, which I hope you have with you today.

  2. I suppose it would have made sense for me to preach a text from the book of John, but I'm not.

  3. Turn with me please to Ephesians chapter 2.

    Ephesians 2 chapter mention

  4. Every Sunday when we gather together as a church, we gather in celebration of the resurrection of Jesus Christ.

  5. Every sermon given in the fellowship of our church is a resurrection sermon.

  6. The application of which would not be possible if Jesus was not raised.

  7. If you ever find yourself hearing a sermon with application that would be possible apart from the resurrection of Jesus Christ,

  8. then you are not hearing a gospel sermon and you may not be gathered with a Christian church.

  9. The resurrection of Jesus is central to all that the church is and to all that the church does.

  10. The resurrection is the pendule on which the great hinge of the gospel swings.

  11. Everything that we believe falls apart without it.

  12. The true Christian church has always believed this.

  13. A.W. Tozer, the 20th century pastor, theologian, the quotation on your bulletin said,

  14. we understand, he's referring to the gospel church,

  15. we understand and acknowledge that the resurrection has placed a glorious crown upon all of Christ's sufferings.

  16. So our text for today is Ephesians chapter 2, verses 1 through 10.

    Ephesians 2:1–10

  17. And I do want us to take a particular pause and think about the resurrection of Jesus Christ and what it means for us.

  18. But if you're a guest with us today, I want you to know that this is not an odd Sunday for us.

  19. We do this week in and week out.

  20. Before I read for our benefit Ephesians 2, verses 1 through 10,

    Ephesians 2:1–10

  21. I want to remind you, beloved, this is God's word to us.

  22. It was written for his glory and for our good.

  23. And as such, we would all do well to listen to it in order to believe its promises and obey its commands.

  24. I begin in verse 1.

  25. And you were dead in the trespasses and sins in which you once walked,

  26. following the course of this world, following the prince of the power of the air,

  27. the spirit that is now at work in the sons of disobedience,

  28. among whom we all once lived in the passions of our flesh,

  29. carrying out the desires of the body and the mind,

  30. and were by nature children of wrath like the rest of mankind.

  31. But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us,

  32. even when we were dead in our trespasses,

  33. made us alive together with Christ.

  34. By grace you have been saved.

  35. And raised us up with him and seated us with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus,

  36. so that in the coming ages he might show the immeasurable riches of his grace and kindness toward us in Christ Jesus.

  37. For by grace you have been saved through faith.

  38. And this is not your own doing, it is the gift of God,

  39. not a result of works, so that no one may boast.

  40. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works,

  41. which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.

  42. Note with me from the text, resurrection phrases, right,

  43. that tie this text together in verses 5 and 6.

  44. Verse 5, Paul says,

  45. We were dead, but God made us alive together with Christ.

  46. And in verse 6,

  47. Not only were we made alive,

  48. but also God raised us up with him being Christ.

  49. So as we consider this text,

  50. I want our attention to be drawn to the centrality of the resurrection to the Christian faith.

  51. But before we do this,

  52. and in brief,

  53. I want to ask and answer in brief the question,

  54. How can we know that Jesus was raised from the dead?

  55. I recognize that there may be some with us today that place a massive question mark at the end of that sentence.

  56. How is it even possible that we can know that this Jesus,

  57. this historical figure, was in fact raised from the dead?

  58. Now, I'm going to do this briefly because despite all of the best of apologetic cases,

  59. the fact remains that those who follow Jesus Christ do so from faith.

  60. We believe that Jesus is raised.

  61. We believe that he has brought light to our darkened hearts.

  62. But the apologetic cases can be helpful.

  63. And I would like to make two of them,

  64. these assertions to you this morning concerning the resurrection.

  65. First, we have in the Bible the record that Jesus stated that he would be raised from the dead.

  66. This historical document, the scripture,

  67. if you don't take it as God's word, which we do as a church,

  68. but if you take it as a historical document,

  69. it's recorded that Jesus said in places like Mark chapter 8 and verse 31,

    Mark 8 chapter mention

  70. 31, and Jesus began to teach them that the Son of Man,

  71. he's referring to himself, must suffer many things

  72. and be rejected by the elders and the chief priests and the scribes

  73. and be killed and after three days rise again.

  74. Jesus said this about himself and he said it in many places.

  75. There's lots of historical veracity to Jesus saying such things.

  76. And we have to wrestle with this Jesus.

  77. I said during the Leithuae time, right?

  78. Jesus cannot merely be a good teacher.

  79. He is the truth that holds all truths together.

  80. C.S. Lewis wrote in Mere Christianity,

  81. which is why I did that time with the kids this morning.

  82. He said,

  83. I am trying here,

  84. so he's made this extensive case,

  85. I am trying here to prevent anyone saying

  86. the really foolish thing that people often say about Jesus.

  87. I'm ready to accept Jesus as a great moral teacher,

  88. but I don't accept his claim to be God.

  89. That is the one thing we must not say.

  90. A man who was merely a man and said the sort of things Jesus said

  91. would not be a great moral teacher.

  92. He would either be a lunatic

  93. on the level with the man who says he is a poached egg,

  94. or else he would be the devil of hell.

  95. You must make your choice.

  96. Either this man was and is the Son of God,

  97. or else a madman or something worse.

  98. You can shut him up for a fool.

  99. You can spit at him and kill him as a demon,

  100. or you can fall at his feet and call him Lord and God.

  101. But let us not come with any patronizing nonsense

  102. about his being a great human teacher.

  103. He has not left that open to us.

  104. He did not intend to.

  105. Now, it seems to me obvious

  106. that he was neither a lunatic nor a fiend,

  107. and consequently, however strange or terrifying

  108. or unlikely it may seem,

  109. I have to accept the view that he was and is God.

  110. And so, Lewis lays out for us this apologetic argument.

  111. People will refer to lunatic, liar, or Lord.

  112. But I must say that it is flawed a bit.

  113. And Lewis actually later wrote about the very flaw of such an argument,

  114. because there is one other option available.

  115. That he was a legend.

  116. And you may be entertaining that idea.

  117. Yeah, but what if this is all just a farce?

  118. It's all just a story made up.

  119. Right?

  120. This is an elaboration on a man who existed.

  121. We know he was crucified.

  122. But the biblical authors just turned him into a legend.

  123. So this brings me to my second apologetic point.

  124. Why?

  125. I think it's impossible for us to believe

  126. that he was created as a legend.

  127. Because the disciples were transformed.

  128. Those who claimed to be followers of Jesus Christ

  129. were changed.

  130. After his resurrection.

  131. In Acts chapter 2 and verse 32.

    Acts 2 chapter mention

  132. This is from Peter's sermon on the day of Pentecost.

  133. He said,

  134. This Jesus God raised up.

  135. And of that we all are witnesses.

  136. We have actually seen the raised Jesus Christ.

  137. Now remember that this was the very same Peter

  138. who had denied that he even knew Jesus.

  139. The disciples,

  140. in seeing the risen Christ,

  141. were transformed from mice to men.

  142. They were a band of bumblers following Jesus around.

  143. Arguing about the meaning of Jesus' parables

  144. and who would be the greatest in the kingdom.

  145. What happened?

  146. What happened to cause these men

  147. to turn out into the world

  148. as proclaimers of Jesus' resurrection?

  149. None of these men opted to support a legend

  150. that Jesus had risen for their own benefit.

  151. None of them built a big building,

  152. gathered large crowds,

  153. or built a mansion on the Sea of Galilee.

  154. None of them jetted across the country

  155. in a jet to share the message

  156. that so many clamored to hear.

  157. It was not profitable

  158. for these men to declare

  159. that Jesus was the Christ.

  160. This was an audacious claim

  161. that Jesus was raised from the dead.

  162. And it ultimately cost each of these men

  163. great suffering,

  164. and for most,

  165. their very lives.

  166. Now, we have some biblical record

  167. of what happened to the apostles

  168. and the broader disciples.

  169. Much of what I'm about to share with you

  170. comes from church history.

  171. And again, you might go,

  172. well, but that's church history, right?

  173. You're making a great claim

  174. that the Bible speaks truth about Jesus.

  175. And now we're dipping off into church history

  176. once again.

  177. It is not an effective propaganda machine

  178. to say the leaders of our church

  179. died in this way.

  180. It's not helpful

  181. for the recruitment of people

  182. unless these people

  183. are radically transformed

  184. by the same grace of God.

  185. So let me give you some examples, right?

  186. Stephen, not an apostle,

  187. one of the early deacons,

  188. was stoned to death,

  189. the very first Christian martyr.

  190. James was killed with a sword

  191. by Herod Agrippa.

  192. Peter was crucified upside down.

  193. Andrew was crucified on an olive tree

  194. in a town called Patre in Achaia.

  195. Thomas was run through with spears,

  196. tormented with red-hot plates,

  197. and finally burned alive.

  198. Philip was tortured and then crucified in Phrygia.

  199. Matthew was beheaded at Naddever.

  200. Bartholomew was flayed and then crucified.

  201. The other James,

  202. again, we want to be known as the other James, right?

  203. was beaten to death with a club.

  204. Simon, crucified in Syria.

  205. Judas Thaddeus, different Judas,

  206. was beaten to death with sticks in Mesopotamia.

  207. Matthias was stoned

  208. while being crucified in Ethiopia.

  209. Paul was beheaded in Rome.

  210. And as far as we know,

  211. John died a natural death,

  212. but it's widely rumored

  213. that he was scarred horribly

  214. by being burned in boiling oil.

  215. It's not a profitable thing to say

  216. that Jesus was raised from the dead

  217. when the easier thing to do

  218. would have been rather just call him

  219. a good moral teacher, right?

  220. He's just one in the line of many prophets

  221. in the Mosaic tradition.

  222. In Acts 5, verses 40 and 42,

    Acts 5:40

  223. we get the conclusion of this trial

  224. where all of the apostles are rounded up

  225. and they're tried before the Sanhedrin.

  226. And then in verse 40 we read,

  227. when they had called in the apostles,

  228. they beat them and charged them

  229. not to speak in the name of Jesus

  230. and let them go.

  231. Then they left the presence of the council,

  232. rejoicing that they were counted worthy

  233. to suffer dishonor for the name.

  234. And every day in the temple

  235. and from house to house,

  236. they did not cease teaching and preaching

  237. that the Christ is Jesus.

  238. Men radically changed

  239. by the resurrection of Jesus Christ.

  240. John chapter 2 and verse 22

    John 2 chapter mention

  241. records for us,

  242. when therefore Jesus was raised from the dead,

  243. his disciples remembered

  244. that he had said this,

  245. that he had said this would happen,

  246. that he had said this,

  247. and they believed the scripture

  248. and the word that Jesus had spoken.

  249. And they all together had this attitude

  250. that Paul expresses in Romans 8, 18,

  251. where he wrote,

  252. for I consider that the sufferings

  253. of this present time

  254. are not worth comparing

  255. with the glory

  256. that is to be revealed to us.

  257. Having believed in this risen Christ

  258. who is now seated in glory

  259. at the right hand of the Father,

  260. and that we also will receive

  261. this resurrection one day.

  262. I think this is a powerful case

  263. against this idea

  264. that Jesus was a legend.

  265. And so,

  266. was he a liar,

  267. a lunatic,

  268. and all of the apostles along with?

  269. Or is he Lord?

  270. And he is.

  271. I stated in the introduction

  272. that all the Christian

  273. believes would fall apart

  274. without the resurrection

  275. of Jesus Christ.

  276. The pendle, by the way,

  277. is that little pin

  278. that goes down

  279. on the inside of a hinge.

  280. If you don't know

  281. what that word is,

  282. that's a pendle.

  283. So let me show you this morning,

  284. briefly,

  285. three ways,

  286. three ways from our text

  287. that Christian belief

  288. would fall apart

  289. without the resurrection.

  290. Without the reality

  291. of the resurrection,

  292. we would not have,

  293. number one,

  294. protection from the wrath

  295. of God.

  296. Protection from the wrath

  297. of God.

  298. We see in verses

  299. one through three,

  300. apart from Christ,

  301. this is who we are.

  302. If you're not found

  303. in Christ this morning,

  304. this is you,

  305. verses one through three.

  306. If you're found

  307. in Christ this morning,

  308. this was you,

  309. which is who Paul is writing

  310. to,

  311. Ephesian believers.

  312. So past tense for us

  313. who are in Christ,

  314. present tense for those

  315. who are not.

  316. And we see that we were dead

  317. in trespasses and sins.

  318. We walked in them.

  319. This was the way

  320. of our very living rebellion

  321. against a most holy God.

  322. We followed the way

  323. of the world around us.

  324. We follow Satan himself,

  325. the prince of the power

  326. of the air.

  327. We are,

  328. we are,

  329. were,

  330. sons of disobedience

  331. and were or are

  332. by nature,

  333. by our very being,

  334. children of wrath.

  335. Paul writes in Romans 1, 18,

  336. saying,

  337. for the wrath of God

  338. is revealed from heaven

  339. against all ungodliness

  340. and unrighteousness

  341. of men

  342. who by their unrighteousness

  343. suppress the truth.

  344. Beloved,

  345. we have sinned

  346. against a most holy God.

  347. We have committed

  348. egregious sin

  349. against him.

  350. Whether you have

  351. the drug addict

  352. under the bridge story

  353. or whether you simply

  354. didn't obey

  355. the command of your parents,

  356. we are all guilty of sin

  357. and it is weighty

  358. before a God

  359. who is of infinite holiness.

  360. And the promise to us

  361. of the Bible

  362. is that God must punish sin.

  363. In his perfect justice,

  364. he must punish that sin.

  365. And this is,

  366. that punishment

  367. is the wrath of God.

  368. poured out on sinners.

  369. This is a great problem.

  370. This is bad news.

  371. Praise be to God

  372. for the good news

  373. of the life, death,

  374. and resurrection

  375. of Jesus Christ.

  376. For it is by faith

  377. in Jesus' person and work

  378. that we are changed

  379. from sons of disobedience

  380. to sons of obedience,

  381. from children of wrath

  382. to children of mercy

  383. and grace.

  384. Paul again,

  385. 1 Thessalonians 1,

    1 Thessalonians 1:9

  386. verses 9 and 10,

  387. writes to the Thessalonian church,

  388. For they themselves

  389. report concerning us

  390. the kind of reception

  391. we had among you,

  392. and how you turned

  393. to God

  394. from idols

  395. to serve the living

  396. and true God

  397. and to wait

  398. for his Son

  399. from heaven

  400. whom he raised

  401. from the dead,

  402. Jesus,

  403. who delivers us

  404. from the wrath

  405. to come.

  406. As God's wrath

  407. is poured out

  408. in the final day

  409. of judgment

  410. on mankind,

  411. we will find ourselves

  412. safe and secure

  413. in Christ.

  414. Delivered,

  415. protected

  416. from the wrath

  417. of God.

  418. Paul wrote also

  419. in Romans 5,

    Romans 5:9

  420. verses 9 and 10,

  421. Since therefore

  422. we have now been justified,

  423. declared righteous

  424. by Jesus' blood,

  425. much more shall we be saved

  426. by him

  427. from the wrath

  428. of God.

  429. We are saved

  430. by God

  431. from God

  432. to God.

  433. Verse 10,

  434. For if while we were enemies

  435. we were reconciled to God

  436. by the death of his Son,

  437. much more,

  438. now that we are reconciled,

  439. shall we be saved

  440. by his life.

  441. On that great day

  442. of judgment,

  443. by what will you plead

  444. the mercy

  445. of God?

  446. Only those

  447. who plead

  448. the accomplished

  449. work of Christ

  450. will have entry

  451. into the kingdom of heaven.

  452. Only those

  453. who stand before God

  454. and say,

  455. of no merit

  456. of mine,

  457. but all

  458. of Christ

  459. will be allowed

  460. into the kingdom.

  461. Will you join us

  462. there?

  463. Oh, I pray,

  464. I pray

  465. that you would.

  466. If you have not

  467. seen your need

  468. of protection

  469. from the wrath

  470. of God,

  471. I pray that you would

  472. feel the weight

  473. of offense

  474. against him.

  475. See that the penalty

  476. of your sin

  477. is death

  478. forever

  479. and run in faith

  480. to our risen Lord.

  481. Without the reality

  482. of the resurrection,

  483. this living Christ,

  484. we would not have

  485. protection

  486. from the wrath

  487. of God.

  488. Jesus would merely be

  489. a lunatic

  490. or a liar,

  491. but he's not.

  492. He's the Lord

  493. of heaven

  494. and earth.

  495. And,

  496. we have this protection

  497. from the wrath

  498. of God

  499. because

  500. our sin

  501. is pardoned.

  502. So, without the reality

  503. of the resurrection,

  504. we would not have

  505. our sin

  506. pardoned.

  507. We can look at

  508. verses 4 through 9

  509. of Ephesians

    Ephesians 2 chapter mention

  510. chapter 2,

  511. which begins,

  512. but God.

  513. And I'm so thankful

  514. for these conjunctions

  515. in the Holy Writ.

  516. There are many of them

  517. that lays out for us

  518. who we once were

  519. and then says,

  520. in spite of

  521. who you are,

  522. God.

  523. God acts.

  524. God is gracious.

  525. God is,

  526. our text says,

  527. rich in mercy

  528. and full

  529. of great

  530. love

  531. for mankind.

  532. So,

  533. even when,

  534. even when we were

  535. dead

  536. in our trespasses,

  537. right?

  538. Enemies of God,

  539. sons of disobedience,

  540. by nature,

  541. children of wrath,

  542. right?

  543. Pitted against Him,

  544. His absolute

  545. enemies

  546. because of His

  547. great love,

  548. because He's

  549. rich in mercy,

  550. He made us alive

  551. together with Christ.

  552. And then Paul inserts,

  553. by grace,

  554. you have

  555. been saved,

  556. right?

  557. This is not a thing

  558. of our doing,

  559. verse 8,

  560. and this is not

  561. your own doing.

  562. It's a gift

  563. of God.

  564. Our very ability

  565. to believe,

  566. right?

  567. We've been saved

  568. by grace

  569. through faith.

  570. This faith

  571. is not our own doing.

  572. It's a gift

  573. that is granted

  574. to us

  575. in our deadness,

  576. right?

  577. The gospel

  578. is not a picture

  579. of us drowning

  580. at sea

  581. and being thrown

  582. a life raft,

  583. right?

  584. All we must do

  585. is climb into

  586. the security,

  587. right?

  588. The picture

  589. of the gospel

  590. is we are dead

  591. at the bottom

  592. of the sea,

  593. right?

  594. We are rotting

  595. corpses.

  596. Little fish

  597. are picking away

  598. at you.

  599. And Christ

  600. dives in.

  601. And Christ

  602. brings you

  603. to the surface

  604. and breathes

  605. life into you.

  606. You are raised

  607. up with

  608. Him.

  609. Not a result

  610. of works.

  611. I cannot say

  612. I climbed

  613. into the raft.

  614. Good for me.

  615. But all my glory

  616. due to Christ

  617. is given Him

  618. because I can say

  619. I was dead

  620. and Christ

  621. delivered me

  622. from this death.

  623. Here we find

  624. at the center

  625. 4-9

  626. these two phrases

  627. that I originally

  628. drew your attention

  629. to.

  630. Verse 5

  631. we were dead

  632. but God made us

  633. alive together

  634. with Christ.

  635. And in verse 6

  636. we've been

  637. raised up

  638. with

  639. Him.

  640. Look at it

  641. a little more

  642. broadly,

  643. right?

  644. Look at the

  645. context of

  646. verses 5 and 6.

  647. we were dead

  648. because of sin

  649. but have been

  650. made alive

  651. because of Christ.

  652. We have in Him

  653. the pardon

  654. of our sin

  655. and His righteousness

  656. is given to us

  657. because God

  658. is gracious

  659. toward mankind.

  660. By grace

  661. we have

  662. been saved.

  663. 1 Peter 1-3

  664. Peter says,

  665. Blessed be the

  666. God and Father

  667. of our Lord

  668. Jesus Christ.

  669. according to

  670. His great

  671. mercy

  672. He has

  673. caused us

  674. to be born

  675. again

  676. to a living

  677. hope

  678. through

  679. the resurrection

  680. of Jesus Christ

  681. from the dead.

  682. We have a

  683. living hope

  684. because our

  685. Savior

  686. lives.

  687. And then Paul

  688. writes in 1 Corinthians

    1 Corinthians 15 chapter mention

  689. chapter 15

  690. and verse

  691. 17

  692. and if

  693. Christ

  694. has not

  695. been raised.

  696. He postulates

  697. what if

  698. this Jesus

  699. was not

  700. raised?

  701. He says

  702. your faith

  703. is futile

  704. and you are

  705. still

  706. in your sins.

  707. If Christ

  708. had not

  709. been raised

  710. we would

  711. not have

  712. the pardon

  713. of our sins

  714. and we are

  715. all wasting

  716. our time

  717. this morning.

  718. We should

  719. turn into

  720. a hiking

  721. club

  722. instead

  723. because it's

  724. a beautiful

  725. day

  726. and we have

  727. the Appalachian

  728. Trail just

  729. north of us

  730. but rather

  731. we gather

  732. as Christ

  733. Church

  734. to praise

  735. our risen

  736. Lord.

  737. We have

  738. been

  739. changed

  740. from

  741. one kind

  742. to another

  743. kind.

  744. We are not

  745. differing

  746. in degree

  747. we are

  748. differing

  749. in kind.

  750. We have

  751. been transitioned

  752. from those

  753. who were

  754. enemies

  755. to those

  756. who were

  757. friends.

  758. Our sins

  759. have been

  760. pardoned.

  761. We have

  762. been made

  763. new.

  764. We have

  765. been made

  766. alive

  767. to live

  768. eternally

  769. with our

  770. God

  771. as His

  772. people

  773. for

  774. His

  775. praise.

  776. Luke

  777. writes in

  778. Luke chapter

    Luke 20:36

  779. 20

  780. verse 36

  781. They

  782. cannot

  783. die

  784. anymore

  785. He's quoting

  786. Jesus

  787. because they

  788. are equal

  789. to angels

  790. and are

  791. sons of

  792. God

  793. being

  794. sons

  795. of the

  796. resurrection.

  797. And Paul

  798. writes in

  799. Romans chapter

    Romans 8:11

  800. 8

  801. verse 11

  802. If the

  803. spirit of

  804. him who

  805. raised

  806. Jesus

  807. from the

  808. dead

  809. dwells

  810. in you

  811. he who

  812. raised

  813. Christ

  814. Jesus

  815. from the

  816. dead

  817. will also

  818. give

  819. life to

  820. your

  821. mortal

  822. bodies

  823. through

  824. his

  825. spirit

  826. who

  827. dwells

  828. in

  829. you.

  830. So

  831. without

  832. the reality

  833. of the

  834. resurrection

  835. we would

  836. not have

  837. protection

  838. from

  839. the

  840. wrath

  841. of

  842. God.

  843. We

  844. would

  845. not

  846. have

  847. our

  848. sin

  849. pardoned.

  850. And

  851. thirdly

  852. we

  853. would

  854. not

  855. have

  856. the

  857. presence

  858. of

  859. Jesus.

  860. Notice

  861. verse 10

  862. of Ephesians

    Ephesians 2 chapter mention

  863. chapter 2

  864. For

  865. we are

  866. His

  867. workmanship

  868. like

  869. He's

  870. created

  871. us

  872. created

  873. in

  874. Christ

  875. Jesus

  876. for

  877. good

  878. works

  879. which

  880. God

  881. prepared

  882. beforehand

  883. that

  884. we

  885. should

  886. walk

  887. in

  888. them.

  889. So

  890. having

  891. been

  892. made

  893. this

  894. new

  895. kind

  896. we

  897. begin

  898. to

  899. evidence

  900. our

  901. changedness

  902. in the

  903. way that

  904. we go

  905. and live.

  906. God

  907. prepared

  908. beforehand

  909. good

  910. works

  911. for us

  912. to

  913. carry

  914. out.

  915. It

  916. is

  917. granted

  918. to us

  919. to walk

  920. in good

  921. works

  922. and we

  923. do so

  924. with the

  925. presence

  926. and

  927. therefore

  928. the

  929. power

  930. of

  931. Jesus

  932. Christ.

  933. How do

  934. we

  935. do

  936. this?

  937. Why am

  938. I

  939. making

  940. pulling

  941. out

  942. of

  943. Ephesians

    Ephesians 2 chapter mention

  944. chapter 2

  945. the

  946. presence

  947. of

  948. Jesus

  949. would

  950. not

  951. be

  952. ours?

  953. We've

  954. been

  955. given

  956. this

  957. task

  958. to

  959. walk

  960. in

  961. these

  962. good

  963. works.

  964. How

  965. is it

  966. that we

  967. do

  968. this?

  969. I'm

  970. saying

  971. to

  972. you

  973. we

  974. do

  975. it

  976. with

  977. the

  978. presence

  979. of

  980. Christ.

  981. Let

  982. me

  983. show

  984. you.

  985. John

    John 14:15

  986. chapter

  987. 14

  988. verse

  989. 15

  990. and

  991. following

  992. Jesus

  993. said

  994. if you

  995. love

  996. me

  997. you

  998. will

  999. keep

  1000. my

  1001. commandments.

  1002. And I

  1003. don't

  1004. believe

  1005. that

  1006. verse

  1007. 16

  1008. is

  1009. conditioned

  1010. on

  1011. verse

  1012. 15.

  1013. If you

  1014. love

  1015. me

  1016. you

  1017. will

  1018. keep

  1019. my

  1020. commandments

  1021. !

  1022. give

  1023. another

  1024. helper

  1025. to

  1026. be

  1027. with

  1028. you

  1029. forever

  1030. even

  1031. the

  1032. spirit

  1033. of

  1034. truth

  1035. whom

  1036. the

  1037. world

  1038. cannot

  1039. receive

  1040. because

  1041. it

  1042. neither

  1043. sees

  1044. him

  1045. nor

  1046. knows

  1047. him.

  1048. You

  1049. know

  1050. him

  1051. for

  1052. he

  1053. dwells

  1054. with

  1055. you

  1056. and

  1057. will

  1058. be

  1059. in

  1060. you.

  1061. I

  1062. will

  1063. not

  1064. leave

  1065. you

  1066. as

  1067. orphans

  1068. I

  1069. will

  1070. come

  1071. to

  1072. you.

  1073. So

  1074. notice

  1075. that

  1076. Jesus

  1077. says

  1078. I'm

  1079. going

  1080. to

  1081. send

  1082. to

  1083. you

  1084. the

  1085. helper

  1086. the

  1087. spirit

  1088. right

  1089. we've

  1090. heard

  1091. him

  1092. as

  1093. the

  1094. holy

  1095. spirit

  1096. but

  1097. then

  1098. he

  1099. very

  1100. quickly

  1101. in

  1102. verse

  1103. 18

  1104. says

  1105. I

  1106. will

  1107. not

  1108. leave

  1109. you

  1110. as

  1111. orphans

  1112. I

  1113. will

  1114. come

  1115. to

  1116. you.

  1117. It's

  1118. very

  1119. trinitarian

  1120. idea

  1121. carried

  1122. here.

  1123. Jesus

  1124. himself

  1125. is

  1126. with

  1127. us

  1128. as

  1129. the

  1130. spirit

  1131. is

  1132. with

  1133. us.

  1134. And

  1135. then

  1136. verse

  1137. 19

  1138. yet

  1139. a

  1140. little

  1141. while

  1142. and

  1143. the

  1144. world

  1145. will

  1146. see

  1147. me

  1148. no

  1149. more

  1150. but

  1151. you

  1152. will

  1153. see

  1154. me

  1155. because

  1156. I

  1157. live

  1158. you

  1159. also

  1160. will

  1161. live.

  1162. So

  1163. without

  1164. the

  1165. resurrection

  1166. we

  1167. don't

  1168. have

  1169. the

  1170. presence

  1171. of

  1172. Jesus.

  1173. Paul

  1174. writes

  1175. again

  1176. boy

  1177. I'm

  1178. using

  1179. Paul

  1180. this

  1181. morning

  1182. aren't

  1183. I?

  1184. Romans

    Romans 8 chapter mention

  1185. chapter

  1186. 8

  1187. beginning

  1188. in

  1189. verse

  1190. 9

  1191. and

  1192. then

  1193. through

  1194. 11

  1195. which

  1196. I

  1197. read

  1198. previously

  1199. Paul

  1200. wrote

  1201. you

  1202. however

  1203. are not

  1204. in

  1205. the

  1206. flesh

  1207. but

  1208. in

  1209. the

  1210. spirit

  1211. if

  1212. in

  1213. fact

  1214. the

  1215. spirit

  1216. of

  1217. God

  1218. dwells

  1219. in

  1220. you

  1221. anyone

  1222. who

  1223. does

  1224. not

  1225. have

  1226. the

  1227. spirit

  1228. of

  1229. Christ

  1230. does

  1231. not

  1232. belong

  1233. to

  1234. him

  1235. but

  1236. if

  1237. Christ

  1238. is

  1239. in

  1240. you

  1241. although

  1242. the

  1243. body

  1244. is

  1245. dead

  1246. because

  1247. of

  1248. sin

  1249. the

  1250. spirit

  1251. is

  1252. life

  1253. because

  1254. of

  1255. righteousness

  1256. you see

  1257. the

  1258. beauty

  1259. that

  1260. Paul

  1261. weaves

  1262. there

  1263. with

  1264. his

  1265. language

  1266. right

  1267. you

  1268. however

  1269. not

  1270. in

  1271. the

  1272. flesh

  1273. but

  1274. in

  1275. the

  1276. spirit

  1277. in

  1278. fact

  1279. the

  1280. spirit

  1281. of

  1282. God

  1283. dwells

  1284. in

  1285. you

  1286. anyone

  1287. who

  1288. does

  1289. not

  1290. have

  1291. the

  1292. spirit

  1293. of

  1294. Christ

  1295. changing

  1296. his

  1297. name

  1298. his

  1299. title

  1300. the

  1301. spirit

  1302. Christ

  1303. is

  1304. in

  1305. you

  1306. so

  1307. we

  1308. have

  1309. the

  1310. presence

  1311. we

  1312. have

  1313. the

  1314. presence

  1315. of

  1316. Christ

  1317. if

  1318. we

  1319. have

  1320. the

  1321. spirit

  1322. of

  1323. Christ

  1324. and

  1325. then

  1326. verse

  1327. 11

  1328. if

  1329. the

  1331. of

  1332. him

  1333. who

  1334. raised

  1335. Jesus

  1336. from

  1337. the

  1345. Jesus

  1450. we

  1451. know

  1452. that

  1453. Christ

  1454. being

  1455. raised

  1456. from

  1457. the

  1458. dead

  1459. will

  1460. never

  1461. die

  1462. again

  1463. death

  1464. no

  1465. longer

  1466. has

  1467. dominion

  1468. over

  1469. him

  1470. we

  1471. have

  1472. a

  1473. risen

  1474. Christ

  1475. who

  1476. died

  1477. once

  1478. was

  1480. and

  1481. will

  1482. never

  1483. die

  1484. again

  1485. so

  1486. we

  1487. have

  1488. his

  1489. presence

  1490. now

  1491. and

  1492. will

  1493. have

  1494. his

  1495. presence

  1496. forever

  1497. without

  1498. the reality

  1499. of the

  1501. however

  1502. we would

  1503. not have

  1507. of

  1508. God

  1509. our
