  1. I invite you to join me in your copy of God's Word in Hebrews chapter 11.

    Hebrews 11 chapter mention

  2. On your bulletin this morning is a quotation from a Puritan preacher by the name of John Trapp,

  3. the context of this letter that we've been working our way through now for so many months is that,

  4. as far as we know, this letter is written to a small church on the outskirts of Rome,

  5. a group that's been sent out of Rome of Greek-speaking Hellenistic Jews.

  6. That's the title of the letter, Hebrews.

  7. And they had suffered much for their faith.

  8. Chapter 12, verse 4 says they had not yet suffered to the shedding of their blood.

  9. No one had died in their church.

  10. They had been publicly ridiculed.

  11. They had been imprisoned.

  12. Their material possessions had been taken.

  13. And the temptation for this church was to go back to the ways of Judaism,

  14. to return to the old covenant worship, thinking that it would be good enough.

  15. We could worship as we once did and not suffer in this way.

  16. And the author of Hebrews writes to them to say,

  17. no, Christ is better.

  18. Press on.

  19. Persevere.

  20. You have not done this in vain.

  21. There's something that awaits you beyond this world.

  22. Have, take up this living hope.

  23. Show yourselves to belong to Christ.

  24. To preserve your souls by your faithfulness.

  25. He has been hard on them at times.

  26. And he has been encouraging to them at times.

  27. And this is where we find ourselves now as we concluded chapter 10.

  28. And in verse 39, he said to this church he's writing to,

  29. and I hope to us this morning,

  30. but we are not of those who shrink back and are destroyed,

  31. but of those who have faith and preserve their souls.

  32. And then he begins to give a description of what faith is.

  33. So what does he mean by this?

  34. This type of persevering faithfulness.

  35. And he says in verse 1 of chapter 11,

  36. now faith is the assurance of things hoped for,

  37. the conviction of things not seen.

  38. So he says it's the surety in the promises of God.

  39. Those things that God has spoken to us,

  40. that we believe them.

  41. And then in verse 2 he says,

  42. for by it the people of old received their commendation.

  43. Now the rest of chapter 11 is the author of Hebrews' tour

  44. through the Hebrew Scriptures,

  45. our Old Testament,

  46. concerning the people of old who received their commendation.

  47. Now when thinking commendation,

  48. think approval.

  49. This is how the people of old received their approval from God.

  50. It was by their faith.

  51. And the first in his tour through the Hebrew Scripture

  52. is also the first martyr of the Bible.

  53. A man named Abel.

  54. A man who was killed for his faithfulness.

  55. And I just absolutely love when the providence of God is made apparent.

  56. God always is ruling.

  57. Whether we recognize it or not,

  58. he's always in control of all things at all times.

  59. I just absolutely love it when I go,

  60. thank you for being in control of all things at all times.

  61. I made a schedule for us to preach through the book of Hebrews

  62. that got thrown off course.

  63. That got thrown off course by an illness that Clay had when he was scheduled to preach.

  64. What a wonderful thing that we're not talking about Enoch this morning,

  65. who didn't even die,

  66. who was taken up on the International Day of Prayer for the persecuted church.

  67. I don't know what I would have done with that.

  68. Praise God this morning that we get to look at the faithfulness of the Bible's very first martyr.

  69. So our text for today is Hebrews chapter 11, verse 4.

    Hebrews 11:4

  70. And beloved, this is God's word to us, written for his glory and our good.

  71. We would all do well to listen to it in order to believe its promises and obey its commands.

  72. Hebrews 11, verse 4.

    Hebrews 11:4

  73. By faith, Abel offered to God a more acceptable sacrifice than Cain,

  74. through which he was commended as righteous.

  75. God commending him by accepting his gifts.

  76. And through his faith, though he died, he still speaks.

  77. Now upon an initial reading of the account of Cain and Abel,

  78. Genesis chapter 4,

    Genesis 4 chapter mention

  79. one can find themselves rather confused.

  80. Why is it that Abel's sacrifice was accepted and Cain's was not?

  81. It feels a little arbitrary when you first look at the text.

  82. The whole matter is a bit enigmatic, right?

  83. Without some deeper, some more closer examination.

  84. So this morning, I want to do that with you.

  85. I want to look at that text a bit.

  86. And then we'll look at the commentary that the author of Hebrews gives us as well

  87. to observe the faithfulness of Abel.

  88. So mark Hebrews chapter 11 and turn in your copy of God's Word to Genesis chapter 4.

Hebrews 11 chapter mention Genesis 4 chapter mention

  89. And we'll read the first 16 verses,

  90. which is this account of the story of Adam,

  91. or excuse me, of Cain and Abel.

  92. The second word in verse 1 is Adam, which I was staring at.

  93. Beginning in verse 1 of Genesis chapter 4.

    Genesis 4 chapter mention

  94. Now Adam knew Eve his wife,

  95. and she conceived and bore Cain,

  96. saying, I have gotten a man with the help of the Lord.

  97. And again she bore his brother Abel.

  98. Now Abel was a keeper of sheep,

  99. and Cain a worker of the ground.

  100. In the course of time,

  101. Cain brought to the Lord an offering of the fruit of the ground.

  102. And Abel also brought of the firstborn of his flock

  103. and of their fat portions.

  104. And the Lord had regard for Abel and his offering.

  105. But for Cain and his offering,

  106. he had no regard.

  107. So Cain was very angry,

  108. and his face fell.

  109. The Lord said to Cain,

  110. Why are you angry,

  111. and why has your face fallen?

  112. If you do well,

  113. will you not be accepted?

  114. And if you do not do well,

  115. sin is crouching at the door.

  116. Its desire is contrary to you,

  117. but you must rule over it.

  118. Cain spoke to Abel his brother,

  119. and when they were in the field,

  120. Cain rose up against his brother Abel and killed him.

  121. Then the Lord said to Cain,

  122. Where is Abel your brother?

  123. He said,

  124. I do not know.

  125. Am I my brother's keeper?

  126. And the Lord said,

  127. What have you done?

  128. The voice of your brother's blood is crying to me from the ground.

  129. And now you are cursed from the ground,

  130. which has opened its mouth to receive your brother's blood from your hand.

  131. When you work the ground,

  132. it shall no longer yield to you its strength.

  133. You shall be a fugitive and a wanderer on the earth.

  134. Cain said to the Lord,

  135. My punishment is greater than I can bear.

  136. Behold, you have driven me today away from the ground,

  137. and from your face I shall be hidden.

  138. I shall be a fugitive and a wanderer on the earth,

  139. and whoever finds me will kill me.

  140. Then the Lord said to him,

  141. Not so.

  142. If anyone kills Cain,

  143. vengeance shall be taken on him sevenfold.

  144. And the Lord put a mark on Cain,

  145. lest any who found him should attack him.

  146. Then Cain went away from the presence of the Lord

  147. and settled in the land of Nod,

  148. east of Eden.

  149. And the episode ends there.

  150. But what does it all mean?

  151. Augustine wrote on the matter in his famous work,

  152. The City of God,

  153. which I commend to you,

  154. where he explained Cain was first born,

  155. and he belonged to the city of men.

  156. After him was born Abel,

  157. who belonged to the city of God.

  158. Augustine saw that Cain and Abel

  159. approached God and the things of God

  160. with radical difference.

  161. Jude wrote in Jude verse 10,

  162. and the first part of verse 11,

  163. These people blaspheme all that they do not understand,

  164. and they are destroyed by all that they,

  165. like unreasoning animals,

  166. understand instinctively.

  167. Woe to them,

  168. for they walk in the way of Cain.

  169. There's a juxtaposition being made here

  170. between these two brothers.

  171. It is this difference that we want to understand this morning,

  172. that the author of Hebrews intends for us to understand,

  173. the way of Cain

  174. and the enduringly faithful way of Abel.

  175. He wants us to find ourselves identifying with Abel,

  176. being those who have faith

  177. and preserve their souls.

  178. In order to do so,

  179. we will put them against each other,

  180. juxtapose them

  181. with particular attention to Abel

  182. in the following outline.

  183. So here's the outline for our text this morning.

  184. Number one,

  185. Abel's worship by faith.

  186. Number two,

  187. Abel's wholeness by faith.

  188. Number three,

  189. Abel's witness by faith.

  190. If I printed notes for you on the back of your bulletin,

  191. you could see the cleverness of the alliteration.

  192. Worship,

  193. wholeness,

  194. with a W,

  195. and witness.

  196. Number one,

  197. Abel's worship by faith.

  198. The very first part of verse four says,

  199. by faith,

  200. Abel offered to God

  201. a more acceptable sacrifice

  202. than Cain.

  203. To do something by faith,

  204. it must be connected

  205. to a word from God.

  206. We are not faithful willy-nilly.

  207. We are faithful in God's promises

  208. and in God's commands.

  209. Paul writes in Romans chapter 10,

    Romans 10:17

  210. verse 17,

  211. so faith comes from hearing

  212. and hearing willy-nilly.

  213. That's not how the verse ends,

  214. is it?

  215. And hearing through the word of Christ.

  216. So,

  217. there must have been something

  218. that undergirded

  219. Abel's faithfulness

  220. and Cain's

  221. faithlessness.

  222. God must have given instructions

  223. for sacrifice.

  224. Otherwise,

  225. how does the text in Genesis 4

  226. make sense

  227. in light of Hebrews 11,

  228. 4,

  229. who is here,

  230. the author,

  231. saying that it's by faith

  232. that Abel offered to God

  233. a more acceptable sacrifice.

  234. It must be that God told Adam and Eve

  235. and therefore Cain and Abel

  236. that their sacrifices

  237. were to be made

  238. with animals.

  239. In Genesis,

  240. death enters into

  241. the garden.

  242. Genesis chapter 3,

    Genesis 3 chapter mention

  243. we see the rebellion

  244. of Adam and Eve

  245. and the curse that follows.

  246. And because they were

  247. working to hide

  248. their nakedness

  249. and their shame

  250. with fig leaves,

  251. God instead

  252. makes for them

  253. more suitable clothing.

  254. And what does He do

  255. in order to make

  256. more suitable clothing?

  257. He sheds the first blood.

  258. The first death

  259. enters into the garden

  260. because of the sinfulness

  261. of man.

  262. It would seem,

  263. as a result of this,

  264. that sacrifice

  265. began

  266. at this

  267. time.

  268. It's likely

  269. that Cain and Abel

  270. understood

  271. their need

  272. of atonement,

  273. of replacement

  274. death

  275. for them

  276. to be found

  277. acceptable

  278. before God.

  279. At the first reading

  280. of this text,

  281. and I have

  282. for many years,

  283. thought that this

  284. was the first time

  285. that Cain and Abel

  286. had attempted

  287. to worship the Lord.

  288. This was the very

  289. first time they ever

  290. had brought sacrifice

  291. before God.

  292. Like, look at these two

  293. just suddenly getting

  294. the idea that they

  295. should offer a sacrifice.

  296. Right?

  297. And they came up

  298. with what they had,

  299. and God commended

  300. one and was unhappy

  301. with the other.

  302. However,

  303. at this time,

  304. if you look through

  305. genealogies,

  306. Cain was 129 years old.

  307. likely lived lives

  308. of worship

  309. toward God.

  310. And then Genesis

    Genesis 4:3

  311. chapter 4,

  312. verse 3 reads,

  313. In the course

  314. of time,

  315. Cain brought to the Lord

  316. an offering of the fruit

  317. of the ground.

  318. And in the course

  319. of time is more

  320. literally translated,

  321. at the end

  322. of days.

  323. At the end

  324. of days.

  325. Indicating

  326. the end

  327. of a specific

  328. period

  329. of time.

  330. Likely,

  331. we can't know

  332. for sure,

  333. but likely,

  334. a time that God

  335. had designated

  336. for a regular

  337. sacrifice.

  338. It was probably

  339. a time that God

  340. had given

  341. for them

  342. to come

  343. and offer

  344. a sacrifice.

  345. At the end

  346. of that time period,

  347. they came to offer

  348. their sacrifice.

  349. So God

  350. had given

  351. instruction

  352. as to how

  353. they were

  354. to worship.

  355. And Abel

  356. worships faithfully

  357. according to the

  358. prescription

  359. that God

  360. had given him.

  361. Cain

  362. does not.

  363. Cain

  364. comes to God

  365. in his

  366. own way.

  367. Cain

  368. is thinking

  369. he has a

  370. superior way

  371. than the way

  372. that God

  373. had commanded

  374. them to come.

  375. Cain

  376. may have

  377. reasoned

  378. in this way

  379. and I'm just

  380. going to read

  381. this to you

  382. quickly

  383. because I think

  384. it was well

  385. written,

  386. better than I

  387. would write

  388. myself,

  389. from a

  390. commentary

  391. by Kent

  392. Hughes.

  393. That Cain

  394. may have

  395. reasoned

  396. like this,

  397. what I am

  398. presenting

  399. is far

  400. more beautiful

  401. than a

  402. bloody animal.

  403. I myself

  404. would prefer

  405. the lovely

  406. fruits of a

  407. harvest

  408. any day

  409. and I

  410. worked far

  411. harder than

  412. able to

  413. raise my

  414. offering.

  415. It took

  416. real toil

  417. and sweat

  418. and it is

  419. even of

  420. greater market

  421. value.

  422. Enough

  423. of this

  424. animal

  425. sacrifice

  426. business,

  427. God.

  428. My

  429. way

  430. is far

  431. better.

  432. It's

  433. with this

  434. kind of

  435. attitude

  436. that Cain

  437. comes

  438. and makes

  439. his offering.

  440. Cain's

  441. offering was

  442. the evidence

  443. of his

  444. self-righteousness

  445. and pride.

  446. He thought

  447. he knew

  448. better.

  449. Abel

  450. humbly

  451. believed

  452. God

  453. and

  454. obeyed

  455. his

  456. command.

  457. He

  458. came

  459. to

  460. God

  461. with

  462. a

  463. submissive

  464. penitent

  465. heart

  466. trusting

  467. that God

  468. would accept

  469. him

  470. through his

  471. prescribed

  472. means.

  473. Further,

  474. Cain,

  475. upon having

  476. his offering

  477. rejected,

  478. became

  479. angry.

  480. He thought

  481. that he

  482. had some

  483. right to

  484. worship

  485. God

  486. on his

  487. own

  488. terms.

  489. And when

  490. that way

  491. was not

  492. accepted,

  493. he stamped

  494. his foot.

  495. God is

  496. being unjust

  497. towards me.

  498. I thought

  499. I was

  500. doing a

  501. thing that

  502. was good

  503. and proper.

  504. And God

  505. in his

  506. great mercy

  507. goes to

  508. him.

  509. This

  510. astounds

  511. me in my

  512. reading of

  513. this story.

  514. He becomes

  515. angry at

  516. God because

  517. God doesn't

  518. accept his

  519. unacceptable

  520. sacrifice.

  521. Genesis 4

  522. 5 says,

  523. so Cain

  524. was very

  525. angry and

  526. his face

  527. fell and

  528. God comes

  529. to him

  530. and he

  531. speaks to

  532. him,

  533. verse 6

  534. and 7,

  535. why are

  536. you angry

  537. and why

  538. has your

  539. face fallen?

  540. If you

  541. do well,

  542. will you

  543. not be

  544. accepted?

  545. Cain has

  546. the opportunity

  547. here to

  548. repent.

  549. You were

  550. right,

  551. God of

  552. heaven and

  553. earth.

  554. You told

  555. me the

  556. way in

  557. which I

  558. should come

  559. and worship

  560. you.

  561. the doing

  562. well of

  563. verse 7.

  564. But what

  565. does Cain

  566. do instead?

  567. He remains

  568. angry.

  569. He does

  570. not

  571. repent.

  572. His mom

  573. had to be

  574. talked into

  575. sinning.

  576. He couldn't

  577. be talked

  578. out of it.

  579. And his

  580. anger

  581. finally and

  582. fully finds

  583. its vent

  584. in the

  585. murder

  586. of his

  587. brother.

  588. God

  589. will

  590. to

  591. God

  592. on

  593. his

  594. terms

  595. and

  596. not

  597. our

  598. own.

  599. We

  600. are to

  601. submit

  602. ourselves

  603. humbly

  604. to his

  605. good

  606. commands,

  607. trusting

  608. that we

  609. will be

  610. delivered

  611. by the

  612. atoning

  613. work of

  614. Jesus

  615. Christ

  616. on our

  617. behalf.

  618. God.

  619. We are

  620. to come

  621. to God

  622. on his

  623. terms.

  624. And there

  625. is no

  626. other way

  627. to properly

  628. worship God

  629. than through

  630. the sacrificial

  631. work of

  632. Jesus Christ.

  633. There's no

  634. other way.

  635. If you don't

  636. place your

  637. faith in

  638. Christ,

  639. if you're not

  640. found in

  641. him,

  642. clothed in

  643. his

  644. righteousness,

  645. then anything

  646. you attempt

  647. to do

  648. for

  649. God,

  650. toward

  651. God,

  652. will not

  653. be accepted

  654. by him.

  655. But if you

  656. are in

  657. Christ,

  658. if you

  659. belong

  660. in him,

  661. in his

  662. righteousness,

  663. you've been

  664. buried by

  665. baptism

  666. into his

  667. death,

  668. you've been

  669. raised to

  670. life in

  671. him,

  672. then we

  673. can do

  674. no wrong.

  675. In all of

  676. our feeble

  677. efforts,

  678. God accepts

  679. us because

  680. he accepts

  681. us in

  682. Christ.

  683. Don't lose

  684. sight of

  685. what the

  686. author of

  687. Hebrews has

  688. said in

  689. the previous

  690. chapter.

  691. We walk

  692. through these

  693. texts so

  694. slowly.

  695. Just back

  696. in Hebrews

    Hebrews 10 chapter mention

  697. chapter 10

  698. and verse

  699. 14,

  700. the author

  701. wrote,

  702. for by a

  703. single

  704. offering,

  705. he has

  706. perfected

  707. for all

  708. time those

  709. who are

  710. being

  711. sanctified,

  712. set apart

  713. by the

  714. single

  715. offering of

  716. Christ

  717. himself.

  718. Offered

  719. once for

  720. all.

  721. And then

  722. in verse

  723. 18 of

  724. Hebrews

  725. 10,

  726. where there

  727. is forgiveness

  728. of these,

  729. there is no

  730. longer any

  731. offering for

  732. sin.

  733. Praise God

  734. we have no

  735. need of an

  736. altar in our

  737. gathering place.

  738. There is no

  739. altar here.

  740. If you're in a

  741. Christian church

  742. that claims to

  743. have an altar,

  744. it should make

  745. you cock your

  746. head a little

  747. bit.

  748. I don't know

  749. what's happening

  750. in this place.

  751. We don't make

  752. sacrifice again

  753. and again.

  754. once for

  755. all.

  756. Jesus

  757. accomplished

  758. this work.

  759. And it's

  760. by faith

  761. in Christ

  762. that we

  763. properly

  764. worship

  765. God.

  766. That's

  767. Abel

  768. trusting in

  769. the sacrifice,

  770. the atoning

  771. work of

  772. this worship

  773. that God

  774. had prescribed

  775. that commended

  776. him as

  777. righteous.

  778. Which brings us

  779. to our next

  780. point.

  781. number two,

  782. Abel's

  783. wholeness

  784. by faith.

  785. Abel's

  786. wholeness

  787. by faith.

  788. This is the

  789. middle part

  790. of verse

  791. four of

  792. Hebrews 11.

  793. Through

  794. which he

  795. was commended

  796. as righteous.

  797. God

  798. commending

  799. him by

  800. accepting

  801. his

  802. gifts.

  803. Proper

  804. worship

  805. comes by

  806. faith.

  807. Righteousness

  808. being

  809. declared

  810. right is

  811. also

  812. the result

  813. of faith.

  814. We do

  815. not know

  816. exactly

  817. how it

  818. is that

  819. the Lord

  820. had regard

  821. for Abel

  822. and his

  823. offering.

  824. Jewish

  825. tradition

  826. holds that

  827. a fire

  828. came down

  829. and consumed

  830. it but

  831. didn't consume

  832. Cain's

  833. offering.

  834. But we

  835. don't know

  836. for sure.

  837. But the

  838. author of

  839. Hebrews

  840. under

  841. inspiration

  842. of the

  843. Holy

  844. Spirit

  845. tells us

  846. that God

  847. commended

  848. Abel

  849. as

  850. righteous.

  851. Commending

  852. him by

  853. the acceptance

  854. of

  855. his

  856. gifts.

  857. saving

  858. faith

  859. is

  860. accompanied

  861. by

  862. works.

  863. The

  864. works

  865. do not

  866. save

  867. us

  868. but

  869. saving

  870. faith

  871. is

  872. evidenced

  873. by

  874. works.

  875. James

  876. write in

  877. James

    James 2:17

  878. chapter 2

  879. verse 17

  880. and 18

  881. so also

  882. faith by

  883. itself

  884. if it

  885. does not

  886. have

  887. works

  888. is

  889. dead.

  890. Verse

  891. 18

  892. but

  893. someone

  894. will

  895. say

  896. you

  897. have

  898. faith

  899. and

  900. I

  901. have

  902. works

  903. show

  904. me

  905. your

  906. faith

  907. apart

  908. from

  909. your

  910. works

  911. and

  912. I

  913. will

  914. show

  915. you

  916. my

  917. faith

  918. by

  919. my

  920. works.

  921. Abel

  922. believed

  923. in

  924. God.

  925. He

  926. believed

  927. in

  928. God's

  929. commands

  930. he

  931. believed

  932. in

  933. God's

  934. promises

  935. and

  936. he

  937. showed

  938. that

  939. he

  940. believed

  941. by doing

  942. what?

  943. By

  944. obeying.

  945. He

  946. evidenced

  947. his

  948. belief

  949. in the

  950. fact

  951. that

  952. he

  953. obeyed.

  954. It

  955. wasn't

  956. the

  957. work

  958. that

  959. saved

  960. him

  961. it

  962. was

  963. his

  964. faith

  965. evidenced

  966. by

  967. his

  968. work.

  969. This

  970. is so

  971. very

  972. important

  973. for us

  974. to

  975. understand

  976. in

  977. our

  978. age.

  979. Again

  980. from

  981. Kent

  982. Hughes

  983. I like

  984. this

  985. little

  986. analogy

  987. he

  988. wrote

  989. faith

  990. and

  991. righteous

  992. works

  993. are

  994. like

  995. the

  996. wings

  997. of

  998. a

  999. bird

  1000. there

  1001. could

  1002. be

  1003. no

  1004. real

  1005. life

  1006. no

  1007. flight

  1008. with

  1009. a

  1010. single

  1011. wing

  1012. !

  1013. Whether

  1014. works

  1015. or

  1016. faith

  1017. but

  1018. when

  1019. the

  1020. two

  1021. are

  1022. pumping

  1023. in

  1024. concert

  1025. their

  1026. owner

  1027. soars

  1028. through

  1029. the

  1030. heavens

  1031. authentic

  1032. faith

  1033. produces

  1034. an

  1035. authentic

  1036. life

  1037. that

  1038. flies

  1039. high

  1040. like

  1041. the

  1042. Abel

  1043. of

  1044. old.

  1045. It was

  1046. through

  1047. the

  1048. evidencing

  1049. of

  1050. Abel's

  1051. faith

  1052. that

  1053. God

  1054. declared

  1055. him

  1056. righteous

  1057. whole

  1058. Abel's

  1059. wholeness

  1060. by

  1061. faith.

  1062. And

  1063. then

  1064. third

  1065. and

  1066. finally

  1067. Abel's

  1068. witness

  1069. by

  1070. faith.

  1071. The

  1072. last part

  1073. of

  1074. verse

  1075. 4

  1076. of

  1077. Hebrews

  1078. 11

  1079. says

  1080. and

  1081. through

  1082. his

  1083. faith

  1084. though

  1085. he

  1086. died

  1087. he

  1088. still

  1089. speaks.

  1090. And

  1091. I

  1092. hope

  1093. that

  1094. the

  1095. end

  1096. of

  1097. verse

  1098. 4

  1099. just

  1100. resonates

  1101. with

  1102. you

  1103. as

  1104. we

  1105. have

  1106. previously

  1107. considered

  1108. those

  1109. who are

  1110. suffering

  1111. around

  1112. the

  1113. world

  1114. even

  1115. in

  1116. this

  1117. day

  1118. for

  1119. the

  1120. name

  1121. of

  1122. Christ

  1123. and

  1124. Pastor

  1125. Han.

  1126. In

  1127. Genesis

    Genesis 4:10

  1128. chapter 4

  1129. verse

  1130. 10

  1131. Abel's

  1132. blood

  1133. cries

  1134. out

  1135. from

  1136. the

  1137. ground

  1138. for

  1139. justice.

  1140. Today

  1141. his

  1142. blood

  1143. cries

  1144. out

  1145. for

  1146. faithful

  1147. perseverance.

  1148. That's

  1149. what the

  1150. author of

  1151. Hebrews

  1152. is doing

  1153. all

  1154. through

  1155. chapter

  1156. 11.

  1157. He's

  1158. saying

  1159. to us

  1160. look

  1161. look at

  1162. the

  1163. faith

  1164. of

  1165. Abel

  1166. and

  1167. press

  1168. on

  1169. to

  1170. the

  1171. end.

  1172. Your

  1173. end

  1174. may

  1175. come

  1176. soon

  1177. like

  1178. Abel's

  1179. it

  1180. may

  1181. come

  1182. long

  1183. like

  1184. others

  1185. but

  1186. press

  1187. to

  1188. the

  1189. very

  1190. end.

  1191. Don't

  1192. be

  1193. one

  1194. who

  1195. shrinks

  1196. back

  1197. and

  1198. is

  1199. destroyed.

  1200. Be

  1201. one

  1202. who

  1203. has

  1204. faith

  1205. and

  1206. preserves

  1207. their

  1208. souls.

  1209. Abel

  1210. speaks

  1211. to us

  1212. from

  1213. the

  1214. very

  1215. page

  1216. of

  1217. scripture

  1218. as

  1219. this

  1220. author

  1221. pens

  1222. this

  1223. letter.

  1224. He

  1225. is

  1226. not

  1227. silent

  1228. although

  1229. Cain

  1230. thought

  1231. he

  1232. was

  1233. silencing

  1234. him.

  1235. He

  1236. and

  1237. so

  1238. many

  1239. more

  1240. after

  1241. him

  1242. have

  1243. taken

  1244. their

  1245. place

  1246. with

  1247. our

  1248. Lord

  1249. and

  1250. glory

  1251. and

  1252. they

  1253. want

  1254. to

  1255. see

  1256. us

  1257. ushered

  1258. into

  1259. their

  1260. number.

  1261. They

  1262. are

  1263. longing

  1264. for

  1265. the

  1266. day

  1267. to

  1268. come

  1269. when

  1270. the

  1271. number

  1272. of

  1273. the

  1274. church

  1275. will

  1276. be

  1277. complete.

  1278. And

  1279. it's

  1280. to

  1281. this

  1282. end

  1283. that

  1284. the

  1285. author

  1286. of

  1287. Hebrews

  1288. is

  1289. encouraging

  1290. !

  1291. us

  1292. right?

  1293. Worship

  1294. by faith.

  1295. have

  1296. wholeness

  1297. by

  1298. faith

  1299. and

  1300. witness

  1301. by

  1302. faith.

  1303. Live

  1304. faithful

  1305. lives

  1306. and

  1307. preserve

  1308. your

  1309. souls.

  1310. Hebrews

    Hebrews 12 chapter mention

  1311. chapter

  1312. 12

  1313. and

  1314. verse

  1315. 1

  1316. he

  1317. brings

  1318. chapter

  1319. 11

  1320. to an

  1321. end

  1322. as

  1323. he

  1324. says

  1325. therefore

  1326. since

  1327. we are

  1328. surrounded

  1329. by so

  1330. great

  1331. a cloud

  1332. of

  1333. witnesses

  1334. !

  1335. Let

  1336. us

  1337. also

  1338. lay

  1339. aside

  1340. every

  1341. weight

  1342. and

  1343. sin

  1344. which

  1345. clings

  1346. so

  1347. closely

  1348. and

  1349. let

  1350. us

  1351. run

  1352. with

  1353. endurance

  1354. the

  1355. race

  1356. that

  1357. is

  1358. set

  1359. before

  1360. us.

  1361. Let's

  1362. pray

  1363. together.
