  1. Good morning, I invite you to open up your Bibles to Hebrews.

  2. Excuse me, we're not in the book of Hebrews.

  3. We're in the book of Romans, chapter 10.

    Romans 10 chapter mention

  4. We spent a little time in Hebrews earlier today.

  5. Romans, chapter 10.

    Romans 10 chapter mention

  6. Our text for today is Romans, chapter 10, verses 5 through 13.

    Romans 10:5–13

  7. Before we get into our text, I want to tell you that I am very tired.

  8. Physically tired.

  9. We have had a lot going on here in the life of the church.

  10. Most of you know I'm in the process of building a house.

  11. Yesterday I was here, down in my study, working on this sermon today.

  12. And I'm not sure that he knew it, but some people were here cleaning,

  13. and Coulson came down and knocked on my door to ask me some questions about chairs,

  14. and I had passed out, and not even thought about passing out.

  15. I don't know if he sensed that I felt awkward when he knocked on the door.

  16. And I said, come in.

  17. I was very startled awake.

  18. So I'm finding myself sitting and just fading into unconsciousness all of a sudden.

  19. So physically very tired.

  20. But more than that, I'm just finding myself lately spiritually tired.

  21. I am tired of unimportant theological debates.

  22. There is so much going on out there and sometimes even in here.

  23. I'm tired of people confusing gospel implications with the gospel itself.

  24. I'm tired of strained relationships and family conflict.

  25. I'm tired of misplaced trust in political parties.

  26. I'm tired of denominational fights and denominational infighting.

  27. I'm tired of people who profess Christ ignoring the word of Christ.

  28. Seems often you can't even have a conversation with people who say they're people of the word.

  29. I'm tired of nitpicky preferences and grumbling.

  30. I'm tired of mission drift.

  31. I'm tired of mental illness and faith deconstruction and lack of assurance.

  32. And in all this exhaustion, I am tempted to lose hope.

  33. Feel this tug to just lose hope as we live in the time between what will be fully realized in Christ.

  34. The days feel really long.

  35. So I'm tempted to lose hope or rather, I may say, to forget the hope that is mine.

  36. And the hope that is the hope of the world.

  37. Beloved, we ought never to grow tired of hearing the gospel.

  38. For it is the greatest of news for a dismally rebellious humanity.

  39. It must be believed, cherished, defended, and shared.

  40. You and I need to be reminded of the good news of Jesus Christ.

  41. I need to hear it all the time.

  42. The following is a quotation that I shared with you on the very first week that we picked up our study of the book of Romans.

  43. Martin Luther said this of the letter.

  44. This epistle is really the chief part of the New Testament and is truly the purest gospel.

  45. It is worthy not only that every Christian should know it word for word by heart,

  46. but also that he should occupy himself with it every day as the daily bread of the soul.

  47. We can never read it or ponder over it too much.

  48. For the more we deal with it, the more precious it becomes and the better it tastes.

  49. And so we have before us this morning another opportunity to revel in the good news of Jesus Christ.

  50. This text is straightforward and I expect my comments this morning to be brief.

  51. Often I struggle to condense my notes for our planned time together.

  52. Today, that is not the case.

  53. However, short and simple our consideration of this text is today,

  54. let us not miss the profundity of God's mercy expressed to a people in the redemptive work of Jesus Christ.

  55. So I'll begin reading in verse 5 of chapter 10.

  56. Before I read, let me remind you, beloved, that this is God's word to us.

  57. It was written for his glory and for our good.

  58. And so we would all do well to listen to it in order to believe its promises and to obey its commands.

  59. Paul writes,

  60. But what does it say?

  61. The word is near you in your mouth and in your heart.

  62. That is the word of faith that we proclaim.

  63. Because if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead,

  64. you will be saved.

  65. For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved.

  66. For the scripture says,

  67. Everyone who believes in him will not be put to shame.

  68. For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek.

  69. For the same Lord is Lord of all, bestowing his riches on all who call on him.

  70. For everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.

  71. The four at the beginning of verse 5 tells us that Paul is further explaining what he has previously stated.

  72. Last week we saw Paul juxtapose righteousness pursued by the law and righteousness that is by faith.

  73. And in verse 4 of chapter 10, Paul says,

  74. For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to everyone who believes.

  75. That is, Christ puts away any idea that we might pursue the law for righteousness.

  76. So in today's text, he's going to help his hearers understand exactly what he means in verse 4.

  77. And he's going to appeal to the writing of Moses to do so.

  78. He goes to the scripture to make his point.

  79. So look at verse 5.

  80. That is, if you desire to live a life that is pleasing to God, to be called righteous, that is to be perfect,

  81. and you pursue this righteousness by the law, then you will have to conduct yourself entirely by the law.

  82. Your very life will depend on it.

  83. Paul here is citing Leviticus 18 and verse 5, where Moses records the words of God.

  84. Hear them.

  85. You shall therefore keep my statutes and my rules.

  86. If a person does them, he shall live by them.

  87. I am the Lord.

  88. And so let me just say it more plainly.

  89. If the basis of your perfection is your perfection, then you will have to be perfect.

  90. Before we proceed any further, I think at this point it may serve someone here to consider why anyone would even desire to pursue righteousness.

  91. Gospel responses must start with an understanding of our sinfulness.

  92. That we are in fact wicked and rebellious and deserve God's wrath.

  93. Romans chapter 1.

    Romans 1 chapter mention

  94. Paul has laid this case out for us extensively.

  95. Let me just read to you a couple of verses.

  96. First, verse 18.

  97. There he says,

  98. The wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men,

  99. who by their unrighteousness suppress the truth.

  100. So their non-perfection, their wickedness, right?

  101. The wrath of God is what is due that kind of living.

  102. You should want to flee from unrighteousness and toward righteousness to avoid the just wrath of God.

  103. This is a thing to tremble before.

  104. That the creator of all things would say of you,

  105. You deserve wrath.

  106. God's wrath is white hot.

  107. And we have purchased it with our sin.

  108. Someone may say, though,

  109. I am not sure there even is such a God.

  110. Well, Paul goes on in verse 19 of the same chapter.

  111. For what could be known about God is plain to them,

  112. because God has shown it to them.

  113. Paul argues, chapter 1, verse 19,

  114. Oh no, you do know that there is a God,

  115. and that His wrath awaits you.

  116. Verse 20,

  117. For His invisible attributes,

  118. namely, His eternal power and divine nature,

  119. have been clearly perceived,

  120. ever since the creation of the world,

  121. and the things that have been made.

  122. So it can be seen there is a creator, God.

  123. And then Paul finishes verse 20 by saying,

  124. So they are without excuse.

  125. So we will all one day stand before God in judgment.

  126. And the basis of that judgment will be righteousness.

  127. You will either be found perfect on that day

  128. and avoid the wrath of God,

  129. or found imperfect,

  130. and the wrath of God will bear on you forever.

  131. And if you need some further evidence,

  132. Paul goes on into chapter 2

  133. to say that our conscience bears witness

  134. that there is a God

  135. because we have God's law on our hearts.

  136. That you have ever recognized

  137. that anything is right

  138. or that anything is wrong

  139. is because God made you

  140. and He wrote that law on your hearts.

  141. That's verse 15 of chapter 2.

  142. There's evidence even within our own thinking,

  143. our own moral compass,

  144. that this God does in fact exist.

  145. And we know that we have all done things

  146. that are wrong.

  147. Righteousness should be of great concern to everyone.

  148. Trying to understand and sort out

  149. the right and the wrong of the world

  150. should concern us.

  151. And how we are to be found right

  152. matters greatly.

  153. And it matters greatly

  154. that you know that you cannot achieve

  155. righteousness on your own.

  156. It grieves me how many Christian traditions,

  157. at least claim to be Christian,

  158. and mess this up,

  159. want to add to God's grace,

  160. works for justification.

  161. If you look out there,

  162. it's all over the place.

  163. It's rampant.

  164. Rob Ventura,

  165. the author of a great commentary

  166. on the book of Romans,

  167. said this,

  168. This attempting to be made right with God

  169. by our own strivings

  170. is a tyranny of the highest order

  171. and tragic for the one

  172. who does not comply.

  173. It reigns over us

  174. and it is tragic.

  175. Paul tells us in his letter to the Romans

  176. that righteousness is achieved

  177. through faith alone

  178. in the person and work

  179. of Jesus Christ alone.

  180. I've said to you,

  181. this is the theme of the book,

  182. that we're justified

  183. by grace alone,

  184. through faith alone,

  185. in Christ alone.

  186. And Paul is working out

  187. the great implications of that

  188. all the way through the end

  189. of chapter 11.

  190. And then he tells us

  191. how we should live in light

  192. of this wonderful truth.

  193. Proceeding the verses

  194. that I just read to you

  195. in Romans chapter 1,

    Romans 1 chapter mention

  196. this is verse 16 and 17,

  197. the thesis statement of the letter.

  198. He says,

  199. Therefore I am not ashamed

  200. of the gospel.

  201. And I just like to insert

  202. the positive of that.

  203. For I am proud of the gospel.

  204. For it is the power of God

  205. for salvation

  206. to everyone who believes,

  207. to the Jew first

  208. and also to the Greek.

  209. For in it the righteousness of God

  210. is revealed from faith

  211. for faith.

  212. As it is written,

  213. the righteous shall live

  214. by faith.

  215. Paul is continually

  216. unpacking

  217. what he has said

  218. in verse 16 and 17

  219. of chapter 1.

  220. We see him here again

  221. doing that very thing.

  222. You have to ask the question,

  223. why?

  224. Why is Paul going

  225. through such labor

  226. to do it?

  227. And it's because

  228. it's so important

  229. for us

  230. to understand.

  231. Justification

  232. by faith,

  233. through faith alone.

  234. This is exactly

  235. what Paul is teaching

  236. here in verses 6-8

  237. as he further employs

  238. the writing of Moses.

  239. Here Paul is citing

  240. Deuteronomy chapter 30

    Deuteronomy 30:11–14

  241. verse 11-14

  242. with the introductory phrase

  243. there at the beginning

  244. of verse 6,

  245. but the righteousness

  246. based on faith

  247. says.

  248. So the righteousness

  249. based on works,

  250. this pursuit

  251. of works

  252. says you must be perfect

  253. and you must be perfect

  254. by your own doing.

  255. But the righteousness

  256. based on faith

  257. says,

  258. and here citing

  259. Deuteronomy 30

    Deuteronomy 30:11–14

  260. verse 11-14,

  261. for this commandment

  262. that I command you today,

  263. that is,

  264. to keep the law,

  265. is not too hard for you,

  266. neither is it far off.

  267. It is not in heaven

  268. that you should say,

  269. who will ascend to heaven

  270. for us

  271. and bring it to us

  272. that we may hear it

  273. and do it.

  274. Neither is it beyond the sea

  275. that you should say,

  276. who will go over the sea

  277. or into the abyss

  278. for us

  279. and bring it to us

  280. that we may hear it

  281. and do it.

  282. But the word is very near you.

  283. It is in your mouth

  284. and in your heart

  285. so that you can do it.

  286. If you are looking at chapter 10

  287. verses 6-8

  288. and listening astutely

  289. as I read from Deuteronomy,

  290. you have surely noticed

  291. that Paul's inspired

  292. parenthetical insertions.

  293. You see them there?

  294. The Deuteronomy text

  295. in a simple reading

  296. seems to be saying

  297. that God's law

  298. can be easily kept

  299. by one's own volition.

  300. But Paul helps us

  301. to see its connection

  302. to Christ,

  303. the unfolding reality

  304. of the gospel.

  305. There he says,

  306. but the righteousness

  307. based on faith says,

  308. do not say in your heart

  309. who will ascend

  310. into heaven

  311. and here's the inspired

  312. insertion,

  313. that is to bring Christ down.

  314. Or who will descend

  315. into the abyss,

  316. that is to bring Christ

  317. up from the dead.

  318. But what does it say?

  319. The word is near you,

  320. in your mouth,

  321. and in your heart.

  322. That is the word of faith

  323. or the gospel

  324. that we proclaim.

  325. Now the law

  326. was always

  327. meant to be kept

  328. by faith.

  329. This has not changed

  330. Old to New Testament.

  331. It could have never

  332. been kept perfectly.

  333. It was meant

  334. to press

  335. those who tried

  336. to keep it

  337. toward faith.

  338. They had to believe

  339. that they were

  340. in pursuing righteousness,

  341. somehow

  342. God

  343. would save them.

  344. They knew they couldn't

  345. keep it perfectly,

  346. but yet promises

  347. somehow

  348. are being kept

  349. as we work

  350. to do this thing.

  351. But now because of

  352. the progressive revelation,

  353. we understand

  354. how it is

  355. that it's kept.

  356. We now

  357. have

  358. Christ

  359. and He

  360. is not far off.

  361. That is the point

  362. that Paul

  363. is driving at here.

  364. This confession

  365. of righteousness

  366. based on faith

  367. is in a

  368. Christ

  369. who is near.

  370. He

  371. is near.

  372. Paul

  373. arcs us

  374. through

  375. all that he

  376. has taught

  377. so far

  378. and he brings

  379. us

  380. to the

  381. simple

  382. profundity

  383. of verses

  384. 9 and 10.

  385. There he says,

  386. because

  387. if you confess

  388. with your mouth

  389. that Jesus

  390. is Lord

  391. and believe

  392. in your heart

  393. that God

  394. raised Him

  395. from the dead,

  396. you

  397. will

  398. be

  399. saved.

  400. For with the

  401. heart one

  402. believes

  403. and is justified

  404. and with the

  405. mouth

  406. one confesses

  407. and is saved.

  408. Sincerity

  409. of belief

  410. at the very

  411. core

  412. of

  413. your

  414. being.

  415. Believing

  416. something is

  417. true

  418. and then living

  419. in light

  420. of that truth

  421. and confession

  422. with your mouth

  423. the initial

  424. evidence

  425. of your

  426. belief

  427. that Jesus

  428. is God.

  429. He is

  430. who He

  431. said He

  432. is.

  433. He is

  434. who God

  435. the Father

  436. said He

  437. is.

  438. And that His

  439. resurrection

  440. is factual

  441. and it

  442. validates

  443. His

  444. completed

  445. work

  446. is the

  447. work

  448. of faith.

  449. Believing

  450. in your heart,

  451. confessing

  452. with your

  453. mouth

  454. is the

  455. work

  456. of faith

  457. and the

  458. means

  459. and the

  460. only

  461. means

  462. through

  463. which

  464. God

  465. saves

  466. sinners.

  467. And this

  468. is not

  469. meant to

  470. be

  471. formulaic.

  472. Paul is

  473. not laying

  474. out a

  475. rubric

  476. for us

  477. that we

  478. must go

  479. through

  480. in order

  481. to be

  482. saved.

  483. It is

  484. just

  485. rather

  486. an

  487. explanation

  488. of

  489. faith.

  490. Believing

  491. in your

  492. heart,

  493. grasping

  494. hold of

  495. the reality

  496. of who

  497. Jesus

  498. is

  499. and

  500. what

  501. He

  502. has

  503. accomplished

  504. and

  505. evidencing

  506. that that's

  507. true.

  508. confessing

  509. with your

  510. mouth

  511. that He

  512. is

  513. in

  514. fact

  515. who

  516. He

  517. said

  518. He

  519. is.

  520. It's an

  521. explanation

  522. of faith.

  523. And it's

  524. not a

  525. lifelong

  526. labor.

  527. It sets

  528. us on a

  529. course where

  530. we must

  531. now earn

  532. God's

  533. favor.

  534. It's a

  535. liberating

  536. hope.

  537. It sets

  538. us free

  539. from the

  540. law for

  541. righteousness.

  542. We're still

  543. given the

  544. moral law

  545. as a

  546. guide for

  547. us that

  548. we might

  549. grow in

  550. holiness,

  551. but it

  552. is not

  553. for our

  554. standing

  555. before God.

  556. When we

  557. become

  558. Christians,

  559. we're

  560. changed in

  561. kind.

  562. We're

  563. those who

  564. will stand

  565. before Him

  566. in judgment

  567. and He

  568. will say

  569. of us,

  570. well done,

  571. my good

  572. and faithful

  573. servant,

  574. because we're

  575. clothed in

  576. the righteousness

  577. of Christ.

  578. You've

  579. heard me

  580. talk at

  581. length

  582. about

  583. double

  584. imputation

  585. and I

  586. think it's

  587. so important.

  588. That's why

  589. I say it

  590. so often.

  591. That is

  592. to say,

  593. believing in

  594. the gospel

  595. doesn't just

  596. forgive us

  597. our sin,

  598. which is so

  599. incredibly

  600. important.

  601. We need our

  602. record expunged

  603. if we're not

  604. going to bear

  605. God's wrath

  606. forever.

  607. But not

  608. only that,

  609. we need

  610. the perfection

  611. that the law

  612. requires.

  613. And so we're

  614. granted that

  615. also in

  616. Christ,

  617. the double

  618. trade,

  619. right?

  620. Christ taking

  621. away our

  622. sin and

  623. giving to

  624. us his

  625. righteousness.

  626. We need

  627. both things.

  628. And if we

  629. only think

  630. that Christ

  631. died to

  632. expunge

  633. my sin,

  634. we often

  635. think that

  636. he expunged

  637. my sin

  638. past.

  639. And now

  640. it's up to

  641. me to

  642. live

  643. righteously,

  644. prove that

  645. I was worth

  646. it,

  647. right?

  648. Some kind

  649. of debtor's

  650. ethic kicks

  651. into our

  652. minds.

  653. And in

  654. fact,

  655. he's also

  656. granted us

  657. his

  658. righteousness.

  659. We are

  660. declared

  661. perfect

  662. already.

  663. And this

  664. becomes the

  665. impetus for,

  666. the power for,

  667. the foundation

  668. for righteous

  669. living,

  670. right?

  671. I now

  672. pursue

  673. righteousness

  674. by the

  675. power of

  676. the Spirit

  677. of grateful

  678. heart.

  679. I want

  680. to live

  681. a life

  682. that honors

  683. my God

  684. because he

  685. has declared

  686. me

  687. righteous.

  688. Charles Spurgeon

  689. said this

  690. of this text,

  691. how very

  692. simple.

  693. No

  694. climbing,

  695. no diving,

  696. no imagining,

  697. no long

  698. reckoning of

  699. the understanding,

  700. no strangling

  701. of the mental

  702. faculties.

  703. It is just

  704. believe God's

  705. testimony

  706. concerning

  707. his Son

  708. and thou

  709. shalt

  710. be

  711. saved.

  712. You need

  713. not be

  714. brilliant

  715. to come

  716. to Christ.

  717. Christ.

  718. You need

  719. only to

  720. recognize

  721. your

  722. transgression

  723. and your

  724. need of

  725. a Savior

  726. and then

  727. to believe

  728. that Jesus

  729. is that

  730. Savior.

  731. We are

  732. justified

  733. by grace

  734. alone,

  735. through faith

  736. alone,

  737. in the person

  738. and work

  739. of Jesus

  740. Christ

  741. alone.

  742. I will

  743. read to

  744. you a

  745. poem.

  746. I believe

  747. the last

  748. time I

  749. read this

  750. poem,

  751. I didn't

  752. know who

  753. to attribute

  754. it to.

  755. I now

  756. know who

  757. to attribute

  758. it to.

  759. It is

  760. called

  761. The Stairs

  762. and it is

  763. by Theodosia

  764. Pickering

  765. Garrison.

  766. It was

  767. written in

  768. 1907.

  769. If this

  770. comes up

  771. familiar to

  772. you,

  773. now we

  774. know who

  775. actually

  776. wrote this

  777. poem.

  778. She wrote

  779. this.

  780. Oh,

  781. long and

  782. dark,

  783. the stairs

  784. I trod,

  785. with stumbling

  786. feet to

  787. find my

  788. God,

  789. gaining a

  790. foothold bit

  791. by bit,

  792. then slipping

  793. back and

  794. losing it.

  795. There came

  796. a certain

  797. time when

  798. I loosened

  799. my hold

  800. and fell

  801. thereby,

  802. down to

  803. the lowest

  804. step my

  805. fall as

  806. if I had

  807. not climbed

  808. at all.

  809. And as

  810. I lay,

  811. despairing

  812. there,

  813. there came

  814. a footfall

  815. on the

  816. stairs,

  817. and lo,

  818. when hope

  819. had ceased

  820. to be,

  821. my God,

  822. this poem

  823. of one

  824. who had

  825. labored

  826. to find

  827. themselves

  828. approved

  829. before God

  830. by their

  831. own effort

  832. and failed

  833. and failed

  834. and failed

  835. and came

  836. to a point

  837. of absolute

  838. despair.

  839. I have

  840. nothing,

  841. I can do

  842. nothing,

  843. which is a

  844. prerequisite

  845. that we might

  846. be saved,

  847. that we

  848. would be

  849. humble.

  850. I can

  851. add nothing

  852. to the

  853. equation

  854. of my

  855. salvation

  856. and God

  857. becomes a

  858. man,

  859. comes into

  860. a world,

  861. perfectly

  862. keeps the

  863. law on

  864. our behalf,

  865. dies the

  866. death that

  867. we deserved,

  868. doesn't stay

  869. dead but is

  870. resurrected three

  871. days later,

  872. proving that he

  873. is in fact

  874. the Christ.

  875. He is now

  876. ascended,

  877. seated at the

  878. right hand

  879. of God.

  880. He intercedes

  881. for his

  882. people and he

  883. reigns from

  884. that place.

  885. one day

  886. he will be

  887. told to get

  888. up and come

  889. back for his

  890. people.

  891. If we

  892. are alive

  893. in that day,

  894. we will join

  895. him in the

  896. air,

  897. he will judge

  898. all the

  899. peoples and

  900. he will make

  901. all things

  902. new.

  903. And it's

  904. because of

  905. that that we

  906. have hope

  907. in tired

  908. days.

  909. On the

  910. final day

  911. when we

  912. stand before

  913. God in

  914. judgment,

  915. Paul tells

  916. us in

  917. verse 11,

  918. for the

  919. scripture says,

  920. and here he

  921. is quoting

  922. Isaiah 28

  923. and verse 16,

  924. everyone who

  925. believes in

  926. him will

  927. not be put

  928. to shame.

  929. He goes on

  930. to tell us

  931. the extent

  932. of the

  933. offer of

  934. the gospel

  935. which we'll

  936. look at

  937. further next

  938. week.

  939. He has

  940. stated

  941. precisely in

  942. his letter

  943. that all,

  944. whether Jew

  945. or Greek,

  946. are saved

  947. by graceful

  948. and through

  949. faithful,

  950. alone,

  951. and the

  952. completed

  953. person and

  954. work of

  955. Jesus Christ

  956. alone.

  957. He said

  958. this before,

  959. but it

  960. bears repeating,

  961. especially as

  962. he unfolds

  963. God's purpose

  964. for Jews

  965. and Gentiles

  966. in chapters

  967. 9 through

  968. 11.

  969. Whether

  970. Jew

  971. or Greek,

  972. there is

  973. no distinction,

  974. verse 12

  975. tells us,

  976. for the same

  977. Lord is

  978. Lord of

  979. all,

  980. bestowing

  981. his riches

  982. on all

  983. who call

  984. on him,

  985. that we

  986. would be

  987. saved,

  988. right,

  989. for everyone

  990. who calls

  991. on the

  992. name of

  993. the Lord.

  994. And that

  995. is to

  996. say,

  997. the name

  998. of the

  999. Lord

  1000. represents

  1001. all that

  1002. he is,

  1003. cries out

  1004. to him,

  1005. his person

  1006. and his

  1007. work

  1008. will

  1009. be

  1010. saved.

  1011. God

  1012. and

  1013. so today,

  1014. if you

  1015. have yet

  1016. to call

  1017. on the

  1018. name

  1019. of the

  1020. Lord,

  1021. do so.

  1022. I feel

  1023. like the

  1024. application

  1025. is much

  1026. more complicated

  1027. than that.

  1028. There is

  1029. a way

  1030. to be

  1031. saved,

  1032. and it

  1033. is by

  1034. grace

  1035. through

  1036. faith

  1037. in

  1038. Christ.

  1039. Do

  1040. not

  1041. labor

  1042. to

  1043. save

  1044. yourself,

  1045. which

  1046. will end

  1047. in your

  1048. demise,

  1049. but throw

  1050. yourself

  1051. on the

  1052. mercy

  1053. of

  1054. God.

  1055. Confess

  1056. with your

  1057. mouth that

  1058. Jesus is

  1059. Lord,

  1060. and believe

  1061. in your

  1062. heart that

  1063. God raised

  1064. him from

  1065. the dead.

  1066. If you

  1067. have called

  1068. on the

  1069. name of

  1070. the Lord,

  1071. do not

  1072. lose hope.

  1073. The

  1074. gospel is

  1075. the power

  1076. of God

  1077. for salvation,

  1078. and we

  1079. should be

  1080. proud of

  1081. it.

  1082. We

  1083. should

  1084. believe

  1085. it,

  1086. we

  1087. should

  1088. cherish

  1089. it,

  1090. we

  1091. should

  1092. defend

  1093. it,

  1094. and we

  1095. should

  1096. share

  1097. it.

  1098. For

  1099. everyone

  1100. who

  1101. believes

  1102. in

  1103. him

  1104. will

  1105. not

  1106. be

  1107. put

  1108. to

  1109. shame.

  1110. I'm

  1111. so very

  1112. glad

  1113. that we

  1114. have

  1115. this

  1116. letter

  1117. that

  1118. Paul

  1119. wrote

  1120. under

  1121. inspiration

  1122. to the

  1123. Roman

  1124. believers

  1125. here in

  1126. front of

  1127. us for

  1128. our

  1129. benefit

  1130. today.
