  1. Oh, wow. Please, please, please, pray for me. I should always ask you that, but obviously today is a little bit different.

  2. ! I went out with my normal Saturday morning run, and I got back home and my wife said,

  3. your phone has been going off. And I said, I know who it was, because I had actually talked to him on Friday, and he could barely speak.

  4. And so I actually asked Connie to make a copy of his message that I could take home and look at.

  5. And so yesterday afternoon and evening, I spent working on this. And some of you here will say,

  6. wow, that sounds just like what Pastor Kenoya would have said. Well, he did, okay?

  7. Other parts of it, maybe not so much. But so it's a combination. And one of the things I wanted to do was to keep the slides the same.

  8. So the slides are all Pastor Kenoya's slides. So hopefully those will fit in with what I say.

  9. But I started with those points and then filled in around it. So if you would pray for me. And I'm going to pray right now.

  10. Gracious God and Father, we thank you so much. This is the day we celebrate or think about Thanksgiving.

  11. It's easy to be thankful for all the things you've done, all the things you've given us.

  12. Help us to be even more thankful for who you are.

  13. Father, I do pray that you would be with me today, that I would stick to the text, that I would speak your words and not my own.

  14. And Lord, that you would be honored and glorified. It's your name we pray. Amen.

  15. Today we are here to celebrate Thanksgiving. It's a day set aside in the United States.

  16. And it was actually done by Abraham Lincoln, right, in the midst of the Civil War.

  17. And he said there needs to be a day to give thanks.

  18. It's celebrated on, we actually, Connie and I looked this up because we were, thought we were missing something.

  19. It's actually celebrated on the 4th, Thursday of the month of November.

  20. And because of that, it can be as early as, I think it was the 22nd.

  21. And as late as the 20, whatever today is, 24th.

  22. And that doesn't make sense.

  23. It can be some, it can be any, whatever the 4th Thursday is.

  24. How about that?

  25. Okay.

  26. And so, and as I said before, Pastor Sethi, the overall plan for this.

  27. And if that was the case, you knew it was going to be in one of two books.

  28. And that is either the book of Ephesians, which is his current favorite book.

  29. Or the book of John, which is his almost favorite book.

  30. Because that's the one he's going to be doing next.

  31. So we're going to look at Ephesians chapter 5 and verse 4.

    Ephesians 5 chapter mention

  32. Let me read it for you.

  33. Let there be no filthiness, nor foolish talk, nor crude joking, which are out of place.

  34. But instead, let there be thanksgiving.

  35. It's that last part.

  36. Instead, let there be thanksgiving.

  37. That we're going to focus on today.

  38. In the book of Ephesians, it's moved from what God has done to what his actions ought to call and encourage us to do.

  39. And it starts in verse 1 of chapter 5.

  40. He says, be imitators, walk in love.

  41. And Paul gives them lots of examples of how not to do that in these first few verses of chapter 5.

  42. And then he sets in contrast this one separate individual idea.

  43. But let there be thanksgiving.

  44. And so it's the nature of thanksgiving.

  45. It's the chief reasons that we have for thanksgiving that we want to spend time thinking about and looking at today.

  46. First one is the nature of thanksgiving.

  47. The nature of thanksgiving.

  48. In order to kind of think through it a little bit, I looked up thankfulness in the dictionary.

  49. And it said, thankfulness is expressing or feeling appreciation or gratitude.

  50. And I thought, well, that was real helpful.

  51. Okay?

  52. It's like, it's one of those words you look it up in the dictionary and it says that thankfulness is being thankful.

  53. And again, you say, okay, now I know that much.

  54. But one thing we can agree on with or without the dictionary, and that is that thankfulness is something that connects or relates us to some other person.

  55. Or say it in a little different way.

  56. Giving thanks usually happens because of someone else.

  57. We're naturally thankful when we receive something from someone else.

  58. Yesterday in the evening, I was sitting there and suddenly I decided, wow, I am really, really hungry.

  59. And so my wife kindly stopped decorating the Christmas tree and went and fixed me dinner.

  60. And I was very thankful.

  61. I thought I was going to be famished.

  62. I thought I was going to pass out or something.

  63. I was so hungry.

  64. And then I was thankful for that.

  65. See, the thankfulness comes when there's somebody else connected to it.

  66. We thank other people for doing something like that.

  67. Sometimes you go to get on the freeway and you see there's this long line of cars.

  68. And there's an ever-shortening on-ramp.

  69. And you're thankful when someone opens up a little space and lets you pull into it.

  70. When we receive something from other people, that's when our thankfulness comes out.

  71. Being thankful, however, runs contrary to our nature.

  72. Whatever else Romans 1 says about the unbeliever and about the world,

  73. one of the things that's key in that is that the person is not thankful.

  74. Thanksgiving is an expression of unselfishness.

  75. The selfish and unloving person doesn't give thanks because they think they deserve it.

  76. They think they've got it coming.

  77. So when someone gives it to them, they say, okay, yeah, they just do what they were supposed to.

  78. It's that selfishness that marks our nature.

  79. We're children of our father and mother, Adam and Eve,

  80. who didn't see all the blessings and weren't thankful for all the blessings that God had given them,

  81. but instead saw the one thing that they didn't have that they thought,

  82. wow, that's what I really need to be happy.

  83. It's that same kind of attitude that marks each and every one of us.

  84. We see it in children.

  85. We need as parents to be consistently reminding our children both to be thankful and to express thankfulness.

  86. If we want it to happen, we have to over and over encourage them.

  87. Now say thank you.

  88. Now tell the person thank you.

  89. Over and over, we have to tell them that.

  90. Sometimes we need to tell ourselves that.

  91. Not only do we need to be thankful for what they receive,

  92. but they need to be thankful even if it's something that they don't want.

  93. If we go to a restaurant that they would not prefer to go to.

  94. Not too long ago, we were traveling to Indiana regularly for cross-country meets.

  95. And at the last meet of the year, we went over and we went out to dinner with them afterward,

  96. and then we're going to come back here real quick.

  97. And we went to the place that Joseph, who was the runner, got to choose which place he would want to go to.

  98. Well, the place he chose was at the bottom of the list for his brother, who said, oh.

  99. And Samuel, in his very engineering-like way, when Peggy was trying to make him happy or be glad about being at Chipotle,

  100. he said, well, at least it's fuel for the fire.

  101. He said, well, at least he was being thankful.

  102. At least he was getting to eat that day.

  103. But it's something we have to teach our kids.

  104. We have to help them do that.

  105. This is going to fall off, so it's okay.

  106. And we need to continually to work at them with that.

  107. Or otherwise, they will not be thankful,

  108. because giving thanks is something that we are taught to do.

  109. Well, if that's true, then Scripture teaches us to be thankful to one,

  110. and that one is God.

  111. When I looked up thankfulness and didn't find much help there,

  112. I looked up thanksgiving.

  113. And I actually am going to read to you what the dictionary is.

  114. The dictionary comes on my iPad, so it's not a Christian dictionary.

  115. It's just some app that was free.

  116. But I want to read it to you, because it's interesting what it says.

  117. It says,

  118. The act of giving thanks, grateful acknowledgement of benefits or favors,

  119. especially to God.

  120. An expression of thanks, especially to God.

  121. A public celebration in acknowledgement of divine favor or kindness.

  122. A day set apart for giving thanks to God.

  123. I found it interesting that even our secular society recognizes that the issue of thanksgiving

  124. is at the center of our view of God, and who God is, and what He does.

  125. What perhaps the secular world doesn't understand,

  126. is that thanksgiving is rooted in our view of God, and His undeserved kindness.

  127. It's the nature of true salvation that draws thanksgiving out of us.

  128. If Christians are known for anything,

  129. it should be that we're known for love expressed toward God and others by unceasing thankfulness.

  130. I want to just read another passage, a very similar one to you.

  131. 1 Thessalonians 5, verse 18 says,

    1 Thessalonians 5:18

  132. In everything give thanks, for this is the will of God for you in Christ Jesus.

  133. You think about that, and so oftentimes, no matter what age we are,

  134. but especially when we're younger, maybe a college age or that kind of thing,

  135. one of the things that we focus in on, what's God's will for my life?

  136. Life.

  137. What's God's will for my life?

  138. I just want to know what God wants for me.

  139. And the passage tells us,

  140. In everything give thanks, for this is the will of God for you in Christ Jesus.

  141. Your and my lives should demonstrate the consistent nature and characteristic of thanksgiving.

  142. Of course, that begs the question,

  143. is thanksgiving a characteristic of your lifestyle?

  144. Something that you're known for?

  145. Or is it something that needs to be prompted, like we have to do with children?

  146. We're going to talk about what we as believers ought to really be thankful for,

  147. and what we need to be thankful for.

  148. Before we do, though, I'm going to take this coat off,

  149. not because I'm too hot, because I'm just comfortable,

  150. but it's fiddling with my microphone, and it's going to fall off.

  151. The pastor and I don't have the same ear,

  152. and so I need to make an adjustment here.

  153. Otherwise, I'm going to be thinking about it all the time.

  154. First of all, I want you to think about causes from our past.

  155. Being thankful and thanksgiving flows out of a need.

  156. You know, if I don't have a need for anything,

  157. if I'm not hungry or thirsty,

  158. if I'm not trying to get on the freeway and it's packed with cars,

  159. then I really don't have any interest or any need in being thankful.

  160. It's when I'm running out of the ramp.

  161. It's when I'm actually hungry and need something to eat

  162. and need someone to help me with it that those are the times.

  163. And so we want to look at our past,

  164. not because so much the things that we have to be thankful for,

  165. but things that drive us or give us that need for being thankful.

  166. Ephesians chapter 2.

    Ephesians 2 chapter mention

  167. They're almost all in Ephesians,

  168. so you can actually flip over to each one of them as I do.

  169. And I think they'll be on the slides as David puts them up,

  170. although David is also being stressed this morning.

  171. So a different set of notes that wasn't written for these slides.

  172. Ephesians chapter 2, verses 1 to 3 says,

    Ephesians 2:1–3

  173. I was dead.

  174. I walked in the course of the world.

  175. I willingly, willingly followed Satan.

  176. I lived out what my own flesh desired.

  177. I was a child of wrath.

  178. I was in deep trouble.

  179. And it was all my own doing.

  180. Not only that, same thing is true for you.

  181. You were in deep trouble.

  182. And it was all of your own doing.

  183. You know, being hopeless is much worse than simply being hungry.

  184. It's much worse than simply trying to get someplace.

  185. It is saying that there is nothing, nothing, nothing that you can do.

  186. Ephesians chapter 2, verse 19.

    Ephesians 2:19

  187. So then you are no longer strangers and aliens,

  188. but you are fellow citizens of the saints and members of the household of God.

  189. So then it says you are no longer strangers and aliens.

  190. I was lined up on the wrong side.

  191. I was on the side opposite of God.

  192. It's like picking the wrong team.

  193. It's much worse than picking the wrong team in sports.

  194. It's being on the wrong side of the creator.

  195. Saying, God, I know that you created the whole universe,

  196. but I want to pick a fight.

  197. It's like saying, I know that you know the end of times from the very beginning,

  198. but I want to challenge you to a little mental game.

  199. Let's play a game of chess.

  200. We don't fit.

  201. We're on the wrong side.

  202. It's like being an OSU fan in the big house

  203. or being a Michigan fan at the horseshoe.

  204. I saw a quote yesterday that Tom Parsons had.

  205. He said, this is as close to hell as the believer will ever get

  206. and as close to heaven that the unbeliever will ever get.

  207. Yeah, I enjoy life.

  208. I enjoy so many things.

  209. I've already announced my upcoming retirement,

  210. and I'm thinking, wow, I'm going to do this,

  211. and I'm going to do this, and I'm going to do this,

  212. and I'm kind of running out of time,

  213. and I haven't even started yet.

  214. There are so many things I enjoy doing,

  215. but you know what?

  216. None of those things, none of this place,

  217. is any better than heaven.

  218. They don't even compare with heaven.

  219. I told you I was out yesterday running,

  220. and I love to run.

  221. And so I was out, and I was just going along,

  222. and I thought, you know what?

  223. I don't know if I'll be able to run when I'm in heaven,

  224. but I really do enjoy it, so maybe I will get to run.

  225. But what I do know is that the wind will be behind you in both directions.

  226. And I won't sound like a wheezing steam engine anymore.

  227. Some of you might wonder why it would go like that.

  228. But I recognize there will be a lot of different things.

  229. All the things I like to do,

  230. they will be so much better even if I do them.

  231. I was an alien.

  232. I was an outcast.

  233. I was also darkness.

  234. Ephesians 5.8.

  235. I do want you to look at this one.

  236. It's close to where we were anyway.

  237. Ephesians 5.8.

  238. For at one time you were darkness,

  239. but now you are light in the Lord.

  240. Walk as children of light.

  241. You know what?

  242. It doesn't say we were in darkness.

  243. If it just said we were in darkness,

  244. it would be like Paul saying,

  245. you know, you were used to be in darkness,

  246. and you couldn't really,

  247. you couldn't see very well,

  248. but you know,

  249. I can kind of maneuver around the chair

  250. that sits in the middle of our bedroom floor

  251. because Peggy usually leaves it in the same place.

  252. So even when it's dark,

  253. I know how to avoid that.

  254. She ever moves it,

  255. I'm in trouble, okay?

  256. But I can make my way around that.

  257. But that's not what this says.

  258. It's not that I was just in darkness.

  259. It says that I was darkness.

  260. Scripture doesn't support the kind of victim outlook

  261. that our world today sees.

  262. It's not our broken families.

  263. It's not our broken neighborhood.

  264. It's not what our parents did or didn't do.

  265. It's not your social, economic level.

  266. It's not your education.

  267. It's that you're darkness.

  268. Until you know the Lord.

  269. And you know,

  270. that doesn't seem like a list of wonderful things

  271. that we ought to be thankful for at this Thanksgiving.

  272. I don't think that Thanksgiving Day

  273. is we're all sharing what things we're thankful for.

  274. It's probably not the list that you'll come up with.

  275. But what it does

  276. is it leads us to Thanksgiving.

  277. Because it tells us

  278. just where we really were.

  279. And the second two of those,

  280. you will notice in each one of those,

  281. it says,

  282. but now you.

  283. The change that takes place.

  284. These point to the present.

  285. And if we consider the present,

  286. we have so much to be thankful for.

  287. 1 John 3, verse 1.

    1 John 3:1

  288. So see what kind of love the Father has given us

  289. that we should be called children of God.

  290. And so we are.

  291. We are sons,

  292. daughters of the Most High.

  293. It's like John is,

  294. the wording there is just so interesting,

  295. so fascinating to me.

  296. It's like John saying,

  297. wow, can you believe it?

  298. I mean, what kind of love does God have

  299. after all?

  300. I mean, He's taken us

  301. and actually made us His sons.

  302. It's mind-blowing.

  303. It's also an encouragement to Thanksgiving.

  304. That God, in His mercy,

  305. in His grace,

  306. has chosen us

  307. to be His very children.

  308. were accepted in the Beloved.

  309. Ephesians chapter,

  310. back to Ephesians,

  311. Ephesians chapter 1, verse 6.

    Ephesians 1:6

  312. I'm going to read out of the New King James,

  313. because I like the wording a little bit better,

  314. and I'll point that out to you in a second.

  315. To the praise of the glory of His grace,

  316. by which He made us accepted.

  317. The ESV says,

  318. blessing in the Beloved.

  319. The word blessing,

  320. or the translation that I read,

  321. the word accepted,

  322. is the Greek word for favored.

  323. It's the same word

  324. that's used by the angel

  325. in Luke chapter 1, verse 28,

    Luke 1:28

  326. when the angel is speaking to Mary

  327. and says,

  328. O favored one.

  329. Accepted one.

  330. It just doesn't,

  331. almost doesn't seem like it's enough.

  332. It's not like God just saying,

  333. well, you know,

  334. I've got to let some people in,

  335. and hey,

  336. I guess I'll have to let you in.

  337. It's not that.

  338. God has chosen you,

  339. and He desires

  340. to have you in His presence.

  341. He desires

  342. to have a relationship with you.

  343. It goes beyond just,

  344. you know,

  345. kind of God

  346. just relenting and saying,

  347. well, I've got to have some people

  348. filling in heaven,

  349. so I guess

  350. you're not worse than anybody else.

  351. You were worse than anybody else,

  352. and God said,

  353. despite that,

  354. I want you

  355. in my eternal presence.

  356. When I dwelt with the Spirit,

  357. and empowered,

  358. Ephesians 1, 3,

  359. Blessed be the God and Father

  360. of our Lord Jesus Christ,

  361. who has blessed us in Christ

  362. with every spiritual blessing

  363. in the heavenly places.

  364. Not only are we no longer doomed

  365. to follow Satan,

  366. the desires of the flesh,

  367. but we have every spiritual blessing.

  368. And there's a parallel passage

  369. over in 1 Peter,

  370. or 2 Peter,

  371. that says,

  372. we have all we need

  373. for life and godliness.

  374. God didn't shortchange us.

  375. He didn't save us,

  376. but then leave us out on a rope.

  377. He didn't say,

  378. well, you know what,

  379. I'm going to go ahead

  380. and forgive you,

  381. but from now on,

  382. just try a little harder,

  383. and maybe you'll please me.

  384. He gave us the ability to change.

  385. He gave us the indwelling Holy Spirit

  386. so that we could change

  387. from the people that we were,

  388. hopeless, corrupt, sinful,

  389. and we could be,

  390. act as the sons of God,

  391. accepted in the beloved,

  392. indwelt, empowered.

  393. That gives us great confidence

  394. in the future.

  395. not only in this life.

  396. It says that next week

  397. can be different.

  398. It says the week after that

  399. can be different.

  400. It says next month

  401. can be different.

  402. But it's not just that.

  403. It also gives us

  404. even more comfort

  405. for the future.

  406. Turn over with me

  407. to 1 John chapter 3.

    1 John 3 chapter mention

  408. 1 John chapter 3.

    1 John 3 chapter mention

  409. Verse 2.

  410. Beloved,

  411. we are God's children now,

  412. and yet what we will be

  413. has not yet appeared.

  414. But we know

  415. that when He appears,

  416. we shall be like Him

  417. because we shall see Him

  418. as He is.

  419. That passage,

  420. if you just think about

  421. that passage for a moment,

  422. it's so encouraging.

  423. It's so much

  424. to be thankful for.

  425. It says that we will be

  426. like Him.

  427. I don't know what that means.

  428. I do not believe

  429. that we will be gods

  430. like the Mormons believe.

  431. But I do know

  432. that we will put on

  433. eternality.

  434. We'll have heavenly bodies.

  435. There'll be no more pain,

  436. no more sickness,

  437. no more sorrow,

  438. no more need.

  439. We will be like Him.

  440. We will see Him.

  441. You know,

  442. you think about the Old Testament

  443. and how often

  444. people were protected.

  445. Moses.

  446. Moses wanted to see

  447. the glory of God,

  448. and what did God say?

  449. No, Moses,

  450. you can't do that.

  451. You couldn't take it.

  452. But what I'll let you do

  453. is I'll let you stand

  454. here in this little

  455. inlet in the rock,

  456. and I'll put my hand

  457. over you,

  458. keep your face away

  459. from me,

  460. and I'll pass by,

  461. and you'll just be able

  462. to kind of catch

  463. a little glimpse

  464. of me as I pass by.

  465. And what did Moses say?

  466. That's enough.

  467. Book of Isaiah.

  468. And we were just doing

  469. the grip by the greatness

  470. of God

  471. in our small group.

  472. And James MacDonald

  473. pointed out

  474. a really fascinating idea.

  475. He pointed out

  476. that in Isaiah chapter 6,

    Isaiah 6 chapter mention

  477. when the prophet

  478. is going,

  479. is there

  480. in the throne room,

  481. okay,

  482. it says that

  483. the throne room

  484. was filled with smoke.

  485. And James MacDonald

  486. said,

  487. and I think he may be right,

  488. he said the reason

  489. it was filled with smoke

  490. was to protect

  491. the life of the prophet.

  492. Because seeing God

  493. would mean

  494. that he died.

  495. And so God

  496. in his mercy

  497. filled the temple

  498. with smoke

  499. so that Isaiah

  500. could see through it

  501. and he could see

  502. the grandeur

  503. but without

  504. being impacted by it.

  505. It was God's protection.

  506. And here

  507. it says

  508. that when he comes

  509. we shall see him

  510. as he is.

  511. We no longer

  512. need protection.

  513. We no longer

  514. need for God

  515. to cover himself

  516. so that we

  517. don't

  518. aren't impacted

  519. by his presence.

  520. It says

  521. that we will be

  522. with him

  523. forever.

  524. Not just

  525. a brief visit.

  526. Not just

  527. stop in

  528. for a little while.

  529. But we will be able

  530. to be

  531. with God

  532. for all

  533. eternity.

  534. Do you ever

  535. have times

  536. where it feels

  537. like God's

  538. not very close?

  539. I do.

  540. Usually

  541. it's my own fault.

  542. In fact

  543. it's always

  544. my own fault.

  545. But for all

  546. eternity

  547. we will be

  548. in the very

  549. presence

  550. of God.

  551. God's

  552. God's

  553. God

  554. how do we

  555. come

  556. to be

  557. thankful?

  558. How do we

  559. have all

  560. these

  561. precious

  562. and great

  563. promises?

  564. We each

  565. have to

  566. come to

  567. the place

  568. of saying

  569. I

  570. am a

  571. sinner.

  572. It's not

  573. just that

  574. the world

  575. is dark

  576. it's that

  577. I am

  578. darkness.

  579. I have

  580. to come

  581. to the

  582. place

  583. of recognizing

  584. that it

  585. is my

  586. own

  587. sin

  588. that is

  589. causing

  590. the

  591. challenges

  592. and the

  593. difficulties

  594. in my

  595. life.

  596. It's my

  597. own sin

  598. that is

  599. making the

  600. division

  601. between me

  602. and God

  603. and why

  604. isn't God

  605. seen very

  606. close right

  607. now.

  608. Recognizing

  609. that sin

  610. and that

  611. that sin

  612. provides not

  613. only currently

  614. but it

  615. provides for

  616. all eternity

  617. damnation

  618. if I don't

  619. turn to

  620. him.

  621. Second

  622. it requires

  623. that I

  624. come before

  625. God and

  626. I say

  627. and I

  628. believe in

  629. the Lord

  630. Jesus

  631. Christ.

  632. He gave

  633. the penalty

  634. he paid

  635. the price

  636. for us

  637. but it's

  638. up to us

  639. to accept

  640. the gift

  641. that he

  642. has actually

  643. provided.

  644. We have

  645. to actually

  646. accept.

  647. We have

  648. to say

  649. yes

  650. Jesus

  651. Christ

  652. paid the

  653. penalty

  654. for me

  655. I accept

  656. that

  657. and I

  658. ask that

  659. God

  660. you would

  661. save me

  662. from my

  663. sin.

  664. It then

  665. takes

  666. from that

  667. point

  668. forward

  669. believing

  670. in the

  671. Lord Jesus

  672. Christ

  673. and what

  674. he has

  675. done.

  676. It's not

  677. enough to

  678. just say

  679. well I

  680. know all

  681. the facts.

  682. I have

  683. to actually

  684. make it

  685. personal

  686. by accepting

  687. what Christ

  688. has done

  689. for me.

  690. If you've

  691. done those

  692. things

  693. then the

  694. issue of

  695. thankfulness

  696. ought to be

  697. the natural

  698. outcome

  699. of your

  700. heart.

  701. If not

  702. then all

  703. you have

  704. to do

  705. is

  706. all you

  707. have to

  708. go on

  709. in this

  710. time of

  711. thankfulness

  712. is

  713. well I'm

  714. thankful

  715. that nothing

  716. bad happened

  717. this week

  718. or at

  719. least nothing

  720. worse than

  721. it could

  722. have been.

  723. So that's

  724. where each

  725. one of us

  726. has to come

  727. down to

  728. where are

  729. we in

  730. terms of

  731. our

  732. thanksgiving.

  733. Do we

  734. have

  735. thanksgiving

  736. for the

  737. right things?

  738. Is it

  739. directed to

  740. the right

  741. direction?

  742. Let's

  743. pray.

  744. If you've

  745. never come

  746. to the

  747. place

  748. where you

  749. have

  750. something

  751. to be

  752. thankful

  753. to God

  754. for

  755. I would

  756. encourage

  757. you

  758. to

  759. in your

  760. mind

  761. before

  762. God

  763. that you

  764. would

  765. say

  766. the

  767. same

  768. things

  769. that I'm

  770. just

  771. going

  772. to

  773. say.

  774. Father I

  775. know I'm

  776. a sinner.

  777. I know

  778. that my

  779. sins

  780. cause a

  781. separation

  782. between

  783. you

  784. and me

  785. and there's

  786. nothing I

  787. can do

  788. about it.

  789. But I

  790. do reach

  791. out to

  792. your son

  793. Jesus Christ

  794. who paid

  795. the penalty

  796. for my

  797. sin

  798. and I

  799. rely upon

  800. him to

  801. provide the

  802. forgiveness.

  803. forgiveness.

  804. I ask

  805. that you

  806. would save

  807. me.

  808. If you've

  809. done that

  810. I just

  811. ask that

  812. you would

  813. encourage you

  814. to raise

  815. your hand

  816. and just

  817. ask someone

  818. to pray

  819. for you.

  820. maybe I've

  821. done those

  822. things

  823. and yet

  824. thankfulness

  825. is not

  826. something that

  827. you can

  828. recognize

  829. that marks

  830. your life.

  831. It's a

  832. consistent

  833. problem of

  834. being unhappy.

  835. Consistent

  836. attitude of

  837. sadness.

  838. And I

  839. would call on

  840. you to

  841. recognize

  842. the great

  843. promises that

  844. God has

  845. given to

  846. you.

  847. That he

  848. has already

  849. fulfilled.

  850. And you

  851. would cry

  852. out to

  853. him asking

  854. for his

  855. forgiveness

  856. for overlooking

  857. the great

  858. gifts that

  859. you've been

  860. given.

  861. And asking

  862. him to

  863. help you

  864. to grow

  865. in your

  866. thankfulness.

  867. Father,

  868. you know

  869. our hearts.

  870. You know

  871. whether our

  872. thankfulness is

  873. external from

  874. our heart.

  875. You know

  876. whether our

  877. thankfulness is

  878. for the

  879. things that

  880. you've

  881. provided or

  882. from you.

  883. And Lord,

  884. we ask that

  885. you would

  886. bring about

  887. the change

  888. in our

  889. hearts and

  890. our lives

  891. that we

  892. might be

  893. able to

  894. grow in

  895. our

  896. thankfulness

  897. to you.

  898. For it's in

  899. Christ's name

  900. we pray.

  901. Amen.

  902. Amen.

  903. Amen.

  904. Amen.

  905. Amen.

  906. Amen.

  907. Amen.
